Speaker 1 (00:08):
If I could have gone back in time and seen
any concert, I think it would have been the early
nineteen eighties and Cold Chisel singing at the Star Hotel.
This is the Muster. I'm Andy Muller. Our next guess
is Clayton Peters out of Peter's Genetics. Based of it, Harriet,
we catch up with pup. Good afternoon, House Siggs.

Speaker 2 (00:25):
Yeah, good things, Andy, Good afternoon to you two. You know,
it's where we've actually had a pretty rough morning again.
But the sun's actually coming up shure now, so it's
not too bad.

Speaker 1 (00:35):
Just a little bit of frustration around the traps when
you're speaking to people about the way the weather seems
to turn about the middle of August.

Speaker 2 (00:43):
Oh listen, yeah, I know we're talking about this just
before any like, you know, it's pretty much suve the
first lamb arrived on the ground. The weather's just been
pretty average, just back to a normal spring. Yeah, it's
just been yes, one of those just yeah, a bit
of a headache. But where we're getting through there, how.

Speaker 1 (01:00):
Far through tailing? Let's try lambing? How far through would
you be? You reckon the bulk of.

Speaker 2 (01:05):
The commercial whose are putting in the last one bit
three or four days to go, and the studs obviously
they started lambing a week later, so that's sort of
right in the middle of it now. Yeah, all the
early ones have finished well them able to start of
the week with them between the wind and stuff. We
finally got that job done and they're already to be
child So hopefully next week we'll get a bit of
tiling done.

Speaker 1 (01:26):
Oh well, go and get the sunscreen be positive.

Speaker 2 (01:29):
Yeah, well i'd like to hope so any but looking
the forecast next week doesn't look that great.

Speaker 1 (01:34):
So what's your feed like? Taking a bit of a check.

Speaker 2 (01:37):
It's kind of cheap, but not to be fair, we
are looking still pretty good. It's it's home all really good.
I'm actually yeah, I actually thought over this last week
it would have disappeared a lot more. But oh so
we still wish up with a fishieve around and where
we where we can. And obviously we've just shed down
all the all the early us and we're dispouted, spread
outs and hoggts this afternoon get ready to member you

(01:58):
start leaving.

Speaker 1 (01:59):
So so you drop looks okay, oh.

Speaker 2 (02:02):
Listen, it's it's gonna be okay, but like it won't
be as bear as last year, because obviously last spring
was just just terrible for everyone. But yeah, and we
got we got a bit of a cane there two
weeks ago and it real rough said day. It was
quite annoying. But yeah, we can't do much about the
weather as.

Speaker 1 (02:19):
Far as crops went to crops net all over and
done with. Now you've still got some kettle there clearing
up the towel end of stuff.

Speaker 2 (02:25):
Yeah, you also have some some bowls on cleaned up,
some sweeds which have lasted really well. And we'll still
got some dry hogits and some steers and heapers or
another pedic h well, chew, I went a few swedes.
They you're gonna give them their last break tomorrow. But
the hoggits have pretty much lost their taste, so we're
pretty much just given them in the top and the
kettle're gonna have to clean up the bulb. So well,

(02:46):
jo I don't like lead them too much longer because
obviously those kettle I need to get get fatted up
pretty and gone before the winter next year. So but
I don't like wasting crop either, So well.

Speaker 1 (02:56):
That's the thing. You want to try and clean the
paddic up before you.

Speaker 2 (02:59):
Work it up, that's right. Yeah, so we'll we'll get
most of it cleaned up, but obviously and then then
we'll be needing det you get the pett work so
we can get it put back into something else. So yeah,
but anyway, it's a good way to be there to
have a crop leef now, like things would be a
bit tighter if we had all those sheep on grass.
But yeah, no, so at the moment.

Speaker 1 (03:19):
And so you supplement levels have stayed pretty good.

Speaker 2 (03:22):
Yep, yep, no, yeah, I'm pretty heavy actually know it's
we're looking good the user all and really good Nick.
We've had wee have actually had a lot of problems
with cast sheep this year, I think just for the
user and a lot better Nick. So we're sort of
having to go around every day at the moment just
to pick up cast and obviously the warior sheeper are
getting cast a bit more, especially again these rain and
then warm afternoons. They all just like scratching their backs.

(03:45):
But we're we're getting to the end of it because
obviously most of them got their lambs out now, so yeah,
so we'll just be getting on to the mixed tailing
and we'll cut a tract to work and yeah, just
the usual stuff.

Speaker 1 (03:55):
So how intensive on the lambing beat are you? Or
pretty minimal?

Speaker 2 (03:59):
Pretty minimal? Now we just pretty much just pick up
any gests. And to be fear of mother two lambs
on two singles, is that out of sympathy? Yeah? Pretty much. Yep,
poor poor poor year like you was bed Weather moster
lamb and she's a good mum. So if when you
have a spear lamb, or just skin the lamb and
hut the skin on the good lamb and where you go.

Speaker 1 (04:19):
Yeah, and I suppose you have. The thing is as
well that the lambs are worth really good money. We've
talked about there's quite a bit Claydon and that the
industry is looking really positive for the season. The heads,
so you know, silver linings.

Speaker 2 (04:29):
Yeah, yeah, I think so. Yeah, I just you know, yeah,
I hope just stays up like I said last time,
you know, but I hopefully just we don't have two
good years and all of a sudden we're back under
six dollars fifty or whatever and a kilo. But I
think it's looking pretty good. I think it's just the Yeah,
there's just a shortage of it and there's you know,
there's obviously the population of the world just keeps bigger,

(04:50):
get bigger and bigger, and everyone's.

Speaker 1 (04:52):
Going to eat can't eat pine cones.

Speaker 2 (04:54):
Instead, right, don't start me on pine trees.

Speaker 1 (04:56):
Okay, I do that. I will start you on your
rugby team. There, you guys going pretty good. You got
the shield exercising the demons from nineteen ninety four when
you had the shield all but one. You finally won
the Renfrey Shield off Canterbury. We had a taste of
it for a couple of days a few weeks back. Now, gee,
this seems a long time ago if you're a Stags fan,
but being a Razorbacks fan one of the most awkward
nicknames for rugby team ever. But nonetheless, you guys, you're

(05:19):
doing pretty well this year at least, be honest, you're
more at target than Southland day.

Speaker 2 (05:23):
Well, I am. I had to be here, but I
was actually wrecked my self and one of the shield
and it would have been awesome to defend it against
from them. The defended against Canbary but Kennedy a very
good side and obviously that game on Saturday, your Tago
just never gave up. Honestly, I was about to hear
to big out of do some work at half time,
and I thought I'd better watched this, you know, And

(05:43):
I couldn't believe. It was absolutely outstanding game. Both teams
played Alice skins and with Tigers to score two tries
with the man on the on the on the button.
It was unbelievable. Just yeah, just a character of them
was awesome.

Speaker 1 (05:58):
Well, Lucas Casey that side stepped to beat the fallback
was reminiscent of a young Christian Callen.

Speaker 2 (06:03):
Oh. Yeah, I couldn't believe. I Like I said to
my wife, I said, he should never have been out
of school that try. It was just yeah, it was unbelievable,
was awesome. But the whole team, they just played playing
the team. They got that sort of never die attitude,
which is great to see because you know, in the
past and the older Tiger teams would have just given up,
you know, because kennyby a good side and once they're
on top like that, they normally run away with it.

Speaker 1 (06:25):
Yeah. Well they didn't score for the last twenty five minutes.
But I just put a bit of a disclaimer on that.
I mean, that would have been Clayton Peters back in
his playing prime, wouldn't it for Harriot?

Speaker 2 (06:33):
No, I don't know about that. Andy.

Speaker 1 (06:35):
You gotta rate yourself that.

Speaker 2 (06:37):
I probably would have liked have thought that.

Speaker 1 (06:40):
How many tries if you have scored over your career,
because you've played a thousand games, didn't you?

Speaker 2 (06:44):
Oh, I've played a lot of games. I didn't score
it me? He tries? Probably, I just like seeing the mother. Andy.

Speaker 1 (06:50):
Oh, well, we liven't hope for the cricket season coming
up very shortly, perp Hey, we'll leave it there, mate,
Clayed and Peter's out of Peter's in the next naming
sponsors on the must always good to catch up out
of silver line in glass half fill. Yeah, the end
of October, the end of September isn't far away. You
could start getting those tailing gates out.

Speaker 2 (07:06):
That's cool, Thanks very much, Jenny
