Speaker 1 (00:14):
This says the Muster. The song is called Dreamer. Everybody
dreams of being something, and dreams always starts somewhere, traditionally
in the farming industry, more often than not, being involved
with the Young Farmers clubs. And that's where we head
this afternoon, catching up with Eyler Pringle. She is chair
for night Caps Young Farmers. Good ay, Isla, welcome to
the muster. How are you good?
Speaker 2 (00:33):
Thank you very much for Andy.
Speaker 1 (00:34):
How are you? Can't complain blue sky like this? It
certainly puts a spring in the step. No pun intended
for the rend of August.
Speaker 2 (00:43):
That's right, We're all happy now.
Speaker 1 (00:45):
Night Caps Young Farmers your chairperson out there. Firstly, Islan,
when did you get involved with Young Farmers.
Speaker 2 (00:53):
When we moved to heat Choke. Oh, this is a
fourth year there, but yeah, three years ago, I guess.
So thought it'd be good to meet a few people
in the community and just started turning up to meetings
and events and yeah, sort of just progressed my way
through there. And you have been selected as the chiefers.
Speaker 1 (01:13):
So so where were you before you leave? It a
head shape?
Speaker 2 (01:17):
My partner was farming out at Good Road and I
was I'm originally from South Otago, So yeah, just been
studied in Dunedin and then you're down south.
Speaker 1 (01:29):
So no, you're only your stones throw away from where
you grew up. There's nothing wrong with that now being
of bold of young farmers, no brainer. Everybody speaks. He
just says the same thing. Is a great way to
connect and catch up and get social. Suppose I'm the
same from your perspective.
Speaker 2 (01:45):
Yeah, massively, Like it's just a great platform to get
off farm. You know, she hears stories over last spring.
It was great to know everyone was in the same
boat and shears some of the problems. But I guess
on the other side of it, you know, we have
to lead the way forward for the dairy industry and
if we want young team ki We workers in years
(02:10):
to come, we've got to sort of make sure there's
a platform to share the excitement around farming. So yeah,
it's probably a big why reason why we're involved in
that space.
Speaker 1 (02:21):
Yeah, it's a very forward thinking approach. You just come
up with the to be commended with that.
Speaker 2 (02:25):
I guess. Yeah, Like if you don't take the rein,
who does?
Speaker 1 (02:28):
So Yeah, and are you enjoying it? As far as
being involved with the executives.
Speaker 2 (02:34):
Yeah, no, it's it's been a learning curve, but yeah,
pretty cool and got some pretty cool things on the horizon,
I think.
Speaker 1 (02:42):
So you made a really interesting comment before about catching
up with other people last spring when it was crappy going,
like so this season every year is like a box
of chocolates every season. We know that, but have you
guys got any mechanisms in play there as a young
Farmers group, so like chat and just keep going with
a banter when the going gets tough, what do you
(03:03):
guys do to try and mitigate things?
Speaker 2 (03:06):
Yeah, well that's that's just always. They're always a platform.
It's as simple as putting in the chat how we're
going for a drink tonight, and you know, people can
all tag along. Everyone's got their own friends within the
Young Farmers Club that they check up on and so yeah,
it's very social sort of groups. So we're always talking
(03:31):
and communicating, always events to make sure people.
Speaker 1 (03:34):
Were and yeah, did you find that last year everybody
people started struggling, so they just got in touch to say, Ronnie,
guys just throw some bentter. We just need to keep
things on the straight and level.
Speaker 2 (03:47):
Yeah, No, it's always it's always you know, pretty active chat.
Speaker 1 (03:51):
But yeah, no, you'd be the commander for that. That's fantastic.
Look like I say, every season is different, as are
the events that go on with the young farmers. What
have you guys been up to you lately?
Speaker 2 (04:03):
As you know, it's been busy, So it's been a
wee bit quiet the last two months. We did have
a Golden Standard comp which is a Southland wide competition.
Panel held the event and it was a badminton event.
So your Nightcaps came away with the winds. That was
just last week, so now we have to come up
(04:25):
with a new event. But yeah, looking forward we've got
quite a few exciting things. A ski trip planned, then
trip up to regional events, Christmas at the races, all
sorts of things coming up.
Speaker 1 (04:40):
Here's a regional event this year.
Speaker 2 (04:42):
Clinton, Yeah, it's nice. Hopefully they'll do a good job.
Speaker 1 (04:47):
I'm sure they will. And badminton it was in someone's will.
Speaker 2 (04:50):
Shed, yeah yeah, down at the key there, so that
was a great night. Everyone enjoyed it.
Speaker 1 (04:56):
So yeah, membership numbers at Nightcaps looking good.
Speaker 2 (05:01):
Yeah, yep, just improving. To be honest, we've been a
wee bit slack on chicken up, But no, they're just
getting more and more.
Speaker 1 (05:08):
To be fair, so you get regularly good attendances at
your meetings.
Speaker 2 (05:12):
Yeah, no, we've been having really really good meetings. So yeah,
it's good.
Speaker 1 (05:18):
Quite a bit happening. We talked about it getting into
the busy season, but you guys will get together and
have the occasional drink and the likes after that. Is
there anything that you guys are planning for, say, over
the next two or three months, you talk about Christmas
at the races, et cetera. Do you do much in
the way of fundraising.
Speaker 2 (05:36):
We we're actually looking to do a wee bit more.
Speaker 1 (05:40):
So.
Speaker 2 (05:40):
Yeah, if anyone has any fundraising ideas, reach out. We
do a bit of tailing team to cover a few
silid stacks and things like that. So we're going to
make some money to have some fun.
Speaker 1 (05:55):
So yeah, well there you go, accord to arms. Anybody
who he's got a few jobs that needs done, that
need done either at nightcatch young farmers, she's a person
to go to, right, that's right. Now. As far as
your meetings, when do you have them or where do
you normally hold them?
Speaker 2 (06:13):
So first Wednesday of every month and that's at the
top pub.
Speaker 1 (06:18):
We are.
Speaker 2 (06:19):
We're looking to do a few more farm tools and
factory tools and things like that. So for an update,
it would probably be best to check out Instagram page or
Facebook page just in case we're not at the top pub.
But yeah, first Wednesday of every month and where we
always have a post up on Instagram or Facebook.
Speaker 1 (06:41):
You said factory tours, Then where are you hoping to go?
Speaker 2 (06:44):
Oh, like a few tulip farms, you know, might look
to go to Frontierra or Alliance or something like that,
just to look at some different sides of the industry
that maybe we don't usually look at.
Speaker 1 (06:58):
Fantastic here I was thing thinking it was going to
be your brewery.
Speaker 2 (07:02):
It's not off the cards.
Speaker 1 (07:05):
Hey, good on your isler side, nicatch Young Farmer's social
channels are active of anybody else to get involved.
Speaker 2 (07:11):
Yep, yep, and email as well as that's preferred.
Speaker 1 (07:15):

rest of the afternoon. Always appreciate the catch up with
you guys.

Laugh out loud with ag proud because life on the

sheer well data working to help the livestock farmer. So
an attorney called his client, a wealthy art collector, Graham,
I've got some good news, and I have some bad news.
The art collector replied. You know, I've had an awful day, Jack,
So let's hear the good news first. Well, Graham, I
(07:48):
met with your wife today, the lawyer said, and she
informed that she has invested only five thousand dollars in
two very nice pictures that she thinks will bring somewhere
between fifteen and twenty million dollars. And I think she
could be right. Holy cow, Well don't, Graham said enthusiastically.
My wife is a brilliant businesswoman. Is thin she isn't she?
You've just made a day now, I need to know
(08:08):
