Wednesday afternoon That means Wednesday Night Country from seven o'clock
with Regional Ford Nathan Abernethy and the Cheer hosting this
evening three hours of glorious country music. As you're going
around the paddock cutting up worms and the iron Horse,
something to keep an eye up for. Tom O'Brien our
Gaston corresponding, Good afternoon, Good afternoon, Andy, how thing's been lately?
Enjoying the blue sky.
Speaker 2 (00:28):
Very much, enjoying the blueish sky and the big yellow
ball of gas and the sky seeming good vibes and
a bit of heat and a bit of growth and
a bit of goodness. But a vitamin D can't go wrong.
Speaker 1 (00:37):
Can't go wrong with it, ken you, because there's been
long over due. Every time I speak to people up
north and they make it sound like Southend's absolute pets.
It's just a season we've had.
Speaker 2 (00:48):
It is just the season we've had. But you know,
we've got short memories if we don't remember the fact
that you know, way out north, the heavy is the
issue of rain and credit weather. I think summer, in fact,
they had an awful awful time of a lot of rain,
and you know, but we're yeah, we're happy. We're happy
with how the words going the moment. It's good.
Speaker 1 (01:08):
Now you're based in Gas and there you've got Welcome Rock,
which is where you're operating from now, the Revenant, which
is the sign foud of Ultra racing, which means there
may not be an ending to this race. It's all
go for next year. It sounds like it's all booked
up already.
Speaker 2 (01:24):
Yeah, mate, No, we're all booked up. We're all good
to go. Just putting preparations in place now. I'm sure
our athletes are keenly training away physically and.
Speaker 3 (01:34):
Mentally and psychologically and all this stuff they'll need to be.
It's going to be a tough event, as too usual.
There'll be a few cure balls throwing here, there and everywhere,
but hopefully, you know, we had a really really good.
Speaker 2 (01:48):
Two or three days of racing, and we welcome the
general public and family and friends and supporters along to
celebrate the one of the athletes.
Speaker 1 (02:00):
Things like that. Though, when you're doing Ultra marathon's time,
it's all about the mindset, doesn't it.
Speaker 2 (02:06):
Oh, absolutely mate, Yeah, yeah, it's just training your brain
as much as possible, including you know, physically, but also
mentally as well, and it's just just trying to get
into that head space but probably something that's probably not
quite so full on, but it's more achievable and probably
(02:27):
a good thing to do with your mates. Is I
probably should mention that the Needs Valley Heartland Ride it's
openly this Friday.
Speaker 1 (02:34):
Nice.
Speaker 2 (02:35):
Yeah, So the Southern District Council of the Central Otago
District Council boundary, so that both councils are going to
meet at the boundary which is about twelve kilometers up
the gast and us up the Needss Road from Garston,
and so there's going to be an opening this Friday,
the fifteenth in November at TPN and everybody is invited
(02:57):
to go to that as well. So that's that means
that you can bike from gast and through the Bannock
then that's awesome. Yeah. Yeah, so that's that I can
put a new opportunity for people as well. But it's
a lovely, lovely bike ride, you know, whatever you want
to do through there, it's great.
Speaker 1 (03:16):
Shut Hey, Tom, I'm just going to ribbon Us for
a moment. Jordi Yi's earlier in the hour we talked
about plucking dead sheep when you're a young fellow to
get money, learning to share on dead us and the likes,
and just trying to get the younger generation understand about
war when it was actually worth a bit of money.
Those were the days, weren't they.
Speaker 2 (03:36):
Or that in conjunction with taking two Leader ice cream
containers around and picking up after birth placenter, yeah, pla center.
Speaker 3 (03:45):
You know, I don't know if people do that anymore,
probably not, but you know, you did that for cosmetics,
I think, which was kind of ironical funny, But yes,
I do have memories of being down at the gub
hole and having all the dead sheep there and yeah,
just just plucking the wool off and putting them into little.
Speaker 2 (04:04):
Super bags we'll see bags. And yeah, it was not
the most pleasant of jobs, but it was definitely worthwhile
to do it, and it was great pocket money, I
think from memory, I think I think we could earn
something something like I don't know, seven or eight dollars
(04:24):
a sheep or something, so yeah, I mean, yeah, it's
amazing how things change, isn't it.
Speaker 1 (04:32):
And just think that every piece of wall that came
off as sheep not that many years ago. By the
time you treasured it because it was money that was
going in the hole effectively.
Speaker 2 (04:42):
Correct, correct, so you know when it should actually be
going in the walls, the ceilings and the under floors
of their homes. All right, Yeah, that's where you know.
I've got a friend of us actually did that with
their house in Riverton. They completely lined the whole house
with wool insulation and they couldn't be happier. Made a
massive difference to the walk behind. And it's obviously a good, natural,
(05:05):
wonderful product that we should be celebrating. You know, I
don't understand why more and more people just don't default
to using what was a product for that sort of thing,
especially in bulk.
Speaker 1 (05:15):
Right, Absolutely, Tom, better leave it. They always appreciate your thoughts.
You enjoyed the afternoon, you two mate.
Speaker 3 (05:22):
Thanks Andy Tetcher.
Speaker 2 (05:24):
