The NBA Playoffs have started, and guess what, we're not
going to talk about them, only a game for each
series in the books. We'll have something up later this
week on just some of our biggest takeaways and observations

so far. We didn't want to hit them just yet.
We want multiple games under our belts, so we are
instead going to catch up on a lot of turnover
happening around the NBA in the aftermath of the close
of the regular season. We have not discussed at all
at length, with the exception of Mort and I did
talk about Michael Malone and Calvin Booth being dispatched let's
call it from the Denver Nuggets. We will not be

discussing that, especially because they're in a playoff series right
now before we get started, though. A lot of just
crucial decisions being made around the league. Moret how are
you doing doing well? Sir?

Doing well? It was such a new stump over the
past few two days, well week, pretty much of firings
and hirings and like it's all confusing and great and
very typical of the NBA. So I'm with it, How

I'm fine. I will say it is atypical to me
in the sense that we don't normally see per year
this much top of the line front office upheaval.

You're normally focused on coaches and now it's oh, all right,

Doesn't that seem like a good place to start The
Atlanta Hawks, Landry Fields, their general manager, has been fired.
En Ci Salah will be promoted to GM and the
search for a president of basketball operations is already underway.
Sticking with that, just what are your impressions of them
going in this direction? And do you think it could

mean anything for just Quinn Snyder since we know I
know that you know Salah's a member of this front
office already, But don't new front offices tend to like
to make their mark by their own coaching higher That's
that's just something I have circled here.

Yeah, same same. I don't think any coach can can
sit there and go, oh, yeah, my job is safe.
When you see a major change in management. You know,
I it's not one of those things where it's like
totally greeches or anything like. I could see why they
would look at the whole Deontay Murray experiment and say, oh,
we lost a lot of assets in that one, like

we have to do something else. But then you would
kind of wonder if the timing of it all. But
you know, you got the first pick last year, you
got Zakar Risha Shane there. I wonder if they also
just kind of felt like, all right, now might be
the time. And adding to the speculation in my perspective
is also if you were skeptical of lanthry Fields going

into this summer and you were also considering trading Tree Young,
that's probably a situation where you want a new general
manager to make that trade to just basically say, Okay,
we can't have the guy we don't really trust anymore
to do that trade. We need someone else. So I
suspect that everything outside of a few exceptions is like

open for business in Atlanta.

Yeah, And that's how I would take it too. And
it's also just there's kind of a natural pivot point
for them. And also I do respect. I guess you
could argue that even maybe should have done it sooner.
But did you want Landry Fields? I know they didn't
do anything super nuclear at the deadline, but you trade
with DeAndre Hunter and both done by Danovic. You don't
want Landry Fields heading up this draft process or like
free agency plans however you like, however you plan to

go about that Trey Young extensional rule this summer could
sign it'll be a four year, two hundred and twenty
eight point six million dollar max. I would have assumed
that they were going to offer it to him, and
I think I'll be curious, you know, wrestler, the ownerships
like the owners Excuse me? Is it gonna be a
stipulation that the next executive needs to keep Trey Young
because they still have like some of those few like

that future. So this year's pick, okay, already going to
San Antonio, but you kind of have control. What is
it twenty twenty seven, and then the swap writes next year?
So your next two first round picks or oh to
San Antonio? Are you going to give the next executive
the latitude to say, hey, if I want to tear
it down and trade Trey Young over these next two years,
even just the next year. I'm just curious as to

whether that person's gonna have the freedom to do it.
But it is regardless, just because he is extension eligible.
You have kind of reached a natural pivot point. I
would think, do you think if you if you were
coming in, yes, what is your pitch? Here is it?
We're gonna strip it down. We're gonna trade Trey Young
and kind of rebuild around Jalen Johnson, reesa che and

Dyson Daniels is it. And by the way, that's the
other thing that goes into all this. They have other
free agents like Nance Lavert Capella or all free agents.
I think Levert's clearly the most important one of those three.
Dyson Daniels is extension eligible now coming off a third
season in which he's probably gonna finish or he will finish.
We got the confirmation he's top three in most Improved
Place voting, and we'll be mentioned on the All Defense

discussion as well. Yeah, a lot of just maybe not
a lot, but there I would say two pretty significant
decisions coming in just with the Daniels extension and the
Trey Young is extension and just future with the team.

I mean to answer your question, yes, I I would
absolutely come in here and make the pitch of well
size because size again is so important in the NBA.
We've seen like a return to size. When you have
a six to eight, you know, compo guard averaging three
steals per game. You have a six ten power forward

who's lanky, athletic, who can play make now you have
a six nine.

Can stay healthy though, Yeah.

That's that's right. So that's another let's put a pin
in that for later on because that is gonna be relevant.
But like that, you know still when when healthy, Jalen
Johnson is amazing, So you have like great positional size
that if we want to label Dyson Daniels to two,
let's do that like the two, three four. You don't
really have a big center. I love on Yako Kongo,

you know that. I've been talking him up for years,
but six eight centers usually don't really fare all that
well unless they're basically Al Horford, and if memory serves,
Horford is actually six', ten not anything about. It SO
i wouldn't be shocked if they were looking at that
draft pick disadvantage and going, okay how can we replenish
our cuppards a little. Bit, well that Means Trey. Young

now that's a huge. Loss so you can't just go
out and get draft picks you need also because not
a lot of teams have cap, space so you're gonna
have to take some money. Back presumably that type of
money would be attached to a player who can come
in and participate right off the bat and would help aid,
that you, know the big defensive lineup that they seem

to be. Brewing WHAT i like about that deal, though
or not that deal with that, scenario that vision Is
Zakari rishek looks like he will be pretty decent offensively as.
Well we Know Janel johnson can produce. Offensively Dyson daniels
very much improved offensively this year as. Well so like
they have these three guys who can actually play both

sides of the. Floor that is somewhat a typical for
the for teams that are trying to rebuild a little.
Bit usually you have like a one way player and
then you have a couple of players where you don't really,
know like is this guy going to struggle? Defensively is
he gonna be only, like you, know fifty percent, defense
one hundred percent, Offense, like what are we looking at?
Here here you have three guys who you just, Know,

okay we're gonna play balls to the, wall both sides
of the. Floor that's that's pretty huge because it kind
of allows you to, say all, right since we don't
control our own draft, picks but by via Trading Tray,
young we will control other draft. Picks we can actually
focus on winning because we don't have to. Tank if
we're in the control of other people's draft. Picks that

gives us all the incentive in the world to try
to win and be. Competitive it's basically the best of both.

to the wall and try and win a championship and
double down and trade more first round, picks but not
having control over your next two first round picks does

one of the best fits along with wimpy that you

Trade Trey, young the next two first round picks are

i mean their first round pick could be it'll be maybe.

other FOURS i. PREFER i just. Don't it's an interesting
exercise street because as The hawks like the starting point

pelicans for giving up On. Daniels it WAS i, mean
maybe they didn't give him a viable, shot but the
primary personnel that was there was never going to be
conducive To Dyson daniels doing what he was doing In.
Atlanta and by the, way he was never once doing
In New orleans what he was doing In. Atlanta so, like,
yeah he had the floater in the, defense but it
wasn't like he did not look like a Defensive player

Player SO i was so wrong on. HIM i was
high on him coming into the. Draft THEN i was
low on him after two years BECAUSE i, thought oh my,
god the offense is just so, bad he's gonna be

one because it feels like this has been brewing for a,

honestly was him to get traded before the trade. DEADLINE
i thought they would want to get rid of that.

trade field for them to go into this summer knowing
that his contract is going to be a problem just

difficult hel to pull off now that they hardcap you
and OH i don't envy their situation right, now AND
i don't envy his situation right. Now he was hoping
to cash, in like none of no one here is.
Happy so, yes of course he's gonna move. On i'm
just it's gonna be interesting to see how perhaps it's
