Speaker 1 (00:05):
What is up?
Speaker 2 (00:06):
Fellasicko's I Am Dan Valley coming at you with mort
Yensen of the NBA podcast, fame of.
Speaker 1 (00:13):
Yahoo's Sports, fame of Forbes's.
Speaker 2 (00:15):
Fame of HBO, Max's name, and of Only Fans celebrity.
Speaker 1 (00:21):
We are here. It's time.
Speaker 2 (00:22):
We're not. We're almost a month into the season at
this point. It's time for our rookie check in. We
are going to begin with the Eastern Conference, because there
are two conferences, and we are going to begin with
this one. That is the logic that we are rooted
in for this podcast before we go in, just to
give our thoughts, evaluations have some overarching questions for certain
teams and their rookies or their rookie class.
Speaker 1 (00:43):
Mort, how the heck are you doing doing well? Sir?
Doing well? Yeah?
Speaker 3 (00:48):
We are settling in nicely to the season, right like
a month in now, we're finally working with some data
that we can actually use instead of like those first
two or three games where everything is wacky and no
one can really say anything with any type of confidence.
Like it's still early, but we're still in. We're in
(01:09):
like that twelve to fourteen game threshold where the data
is stacking up now you can rely on certain things
like Kelton Johnson's offensive rebounding. Initially was like, is that
a real thing? It seems so, Yeah, it's a real thing.
Speaker 1 (01:25):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:25):
This is a good time of year because it does
feel like certain things are starting to crystallize. What we're
about to talk about, though, is kind of it's not
the opposite, but rookies are just inherently turbulent to where
will they hit the rookie wall. Will these rookies that
some people are already writing off all of a sudden
pop later in the year. So we're not here to
make any sweeping declarations except for the fact that I'm
(01:47):
going to make plenty of sweeping declary.
Speaker 1 (01:49):
Yes, yes, yes, you are where.
Speaker 2 (01:52):
We're gonna just bounce around from teams and we're not look,
I was a Chaslinear guy, but we're not gonna spend
eight minutes talking about the very few minutes that Chaslyn
Year has played for the Pistons. We're trying to look
at situations that are a little bit more notable and
looking at guys that have built up these larger sample sizes.
Which team, which rookie would you like to begin with more.
Speaker 3 (02:13):
Well, I would like to extend my apologies to Konkk
Nipple first and foremost. So here's the thing. When he
came into the league, or when I watched him in college,
I thought he would be a year two player because
I you know, he's not overly athletic.
Speaker 1 (02:31):
I think that's fair to say.
Speaker 3 (02:33):
And I thought his floor game, while solid, I thought
that was it wasn't as advanced. So I figured he's
probably gonna just get smacked around in the first year,
and then the year two he's going to have like
a really good year.
Speaker 1 (02:46):
That dude was just like.
Speaker 3 (02:47):
No, I'm I'm just gonna land on my feet pretty well,
and I'm just going to use my I don't even
want to say limited athleticism, but you know, I'm just
going to use my savvy, my basketball IQ. I'm going
to get to every spot on the that I need
to get to. Oh, I'm gonna hit forty percent from
the three point line. I'm gonna hit practically ninety from
the line, and I'm just gonna be an overwhelmingly.
Speaker 1 (03:09):
Efficient rookie who's playing the wing.
Speaker 3 (03:12):
So my apologies to con Honestly, that's just I did
not see that coming this soon.
Speaker 1 (03:19):
I am. I was very very wrong.
Speaker 2 (03:22):
Well that's nothing new for you. At least you've got
to be used to that is true.
Speaker 3 (03:26):
No, I mean you're not even kidding. Yeah, after twenty
years of covering this damn league, I better have a
track record of being wrong plenty of times.
Speaker 1 (03:33):
Yeah, the I don't know where I landed.
Speaker 2 (03:36):
I liked Conkin Eppo coming out of the draft, but
I didn't know what to expect from him and Charlotte.
We probably should have banked on Hey, there will be
injuries and he'll have a pretty big role regardless, and
he had a pretty big role before LaMelo was banged up.
He's back now, Brandon Miller banged up. I think what
has impressed me most is that he is someone who
can be in some of those secondary units.
Speaker 1 (03:57):
It feels like.
Speaker 2 (03:57):
The basis for your entire offense, and he's not on
the ball for a lot of those, like the passing
out of drives, just the movement, like he can make
quick decisions with the ball in his hands, he can
do something he could do plenty with the ball in
his hands, but just being able to move coming off screens,
knocking down shots, constant pressure even when he doesn't have
the ball, which I know is what he was kind
of billed as. But we've already seen a ton of
(04:19):
it without LaMelo, without Brandon Miller on the court, and
it looks really good. And I also probably just underestimated
the value in his positional size because he's six' seven
and it's players of his archetype you don't maybe now
we're getting to a point where you, do but you
don't look at them and you expect them to be
like six' four, or something AND so i type cast
anyone who fits into. That Mold but i've been really
(04:42):
impressed with what he's able to do and what.
Speaker 1 (04:44):
He like it's.
Speaker 2 (04:45):
Not dependent he's just an outlet, for everybody and there
there is.
Speaker 1 (04:50):
THAT pass i think my question, to dude what do
you think his? Ceiling is is?
Speaker 2 (04:54):
A playmaker do you think he's someone who could come
in at one point and run a bunch of pick?
Speaker 1 (04:58):
And rolls is that something that you see down the pipeline.
Speaker 3 (05:01):
For him i'm not putting it. PAST him i think
what we've seen so far has been. Very encouraging, you
know we're looking at for three assists, per game but
that is just not in any way A real i
don't think it represents his real value as a. Passer
whatsoever like he's playing on a team that Does, have
(05:23):
LaMelo so there are you know guards That calling sexton,
As well like is that guy who has the ball
in his hands a fair bit when? He's there it's
it's one of those situations where his passing is better
than what the. NUMBERS indicate i will need to see
it over an. Extended stretch and you, know this this Is.
(05:45):
The hornets so we'll get, it eventually because, you know
that's one thing we can always count on With. The
hornets some guy's gonna miss, twenty games, forty games, forty
games that is unfortunately just. The thing so we just
have to be patient and we'll. Find OUT but i,
SO far i don't see an argument for why that
would be. An issue, you know he's he's very patient
(06:08):
in the way that he, probes defenses and it's OUTSIDE
like i think the more that he get accustomed TO
the nba clock and the speed of, the game the
more he's going to use that patience to. His advantage,
you know there's there are a couple things like from
certain angles as ball hanfort that you just that's not
something you can. Plan ahead so that's that's just trial
and error that goes for every single player IN. The
(06:29):
nba and as long as he gets those out of
his system, THIS year i wouldn't be surprised if next
year he comes back, and, is like, you know a
twenty plus, five boards five assists plus, Whoa guy that
wouldn't be surprising to me that doesn't.
Speaker 2 (06:43):
That close and also those NUMBERS today i still hear
Them and i'm the twenty five and, Five wow but
TODAY it's i, don't Know twenty like twenty five five
and five isn't even what it used, to, be right.
Speaker 1 (06:54):
It's not and he's he's seventeen six.
Speaker 3 (06:56):
And three so it's not even like he has to build,
you know pyramid, on this like he that's just.
Speaker 2 (07:02):
INTERNAL improvement i do think assuming this is the core
moving forward or a lion's share, of it he is
the PLAYER that i think could do the most to
Open Up LaMelo ball's game to where when you see
thelo it's Like A LaMelo ball taking catch and shoot
Threes Or LaMelo ball's, shot quality it just. Goes Up, it's,
oh no defenses have needed to be keyed on continent
(07:23):
ple and maybe that's Absence Of brandon miller the past
two seasons basically is leading me to say things.
Speaker 1 (07:29):
Like THAT but i think he.
Speaker 2 (07:30):
RIGHT now i look at him, and Say maybe, recncy
biased but think that he is their second most intriguing
building block when we're.
Speaker 3 (07:38):
Moving, FORWARD yeah i would love to see this team for,
several purposes but Like Getting miles bridges off that roster
and having what he contributes just spread out Again, Across,
Continipple LaMelo, BRANDON miller i think that.
Speaker 1 (07:55):
Is going to be.
Speaker 3 (07:55):
Extremely interesting Even Even ryan kelprener to a, certain extent
and See on, james too this is intriguing, At least
like for remember all the Hype around charlotte last year
that was, totally misplaced where people were like they could make.
Speaker 1 (08:08):
THE playoffs i was never.
Speaker 3 (08:10):
On that, This year i'm not on the, playoff Thing
but i'm at least at that Situation where, i'm like,
they're intriguing they're fun, to watch this is there's something
here if they keep Building.
Speaker 2 (08:20):
The you mentioned both of Them In sion James And.
Ryan kulkrenner we talked that a. Little bit GRANT and
i on our last podcast actually, About Them. RYAN kalkbrenner
i made Fun of charlotte's center rotation, in general and
Even With. Mussa Diabate, That's look charlotte's not a defensive,
world beader but they have more confident big man play
on their TEAM that i. Was Expecting ryan kalkbrenner is
a huge part. Of that he's conventionally ginormous and knows
(08:45):
how to use his hands at both ends of. The
floor when you're looking at where, he like he knows
his limitations. On offense there's some like a little bit
OF range i could throw up a flip shot or
hook shot outside of that, restricted area but he just
knows where he needs to finish on the offensive end
and how to. Get there i've been impressed with his,
defensive activity his room deterrence. As well he's he has
(09:06):
like a nice straight gait for someone his, Size too
so if you want to get up and down, THE
floor i think you can play with him.
Speaker 1 (09:11):
Like that that Is.
Speaker 2 (09:14):
Se on james was just someone when he, came out, It,
was oh he's gonna really work his ass off defensively
and you're gonna wonder can he give you, enough offense
and those are kind of still some of the. Same
questions even if he's going to shoot well the Sea on,
james volume that's just he's not conditioned to give it.
To You ryan kulkbreenner was just NOT someone i saw
COMING and i didn't really there were some People IN
(09:34):
charlotte i didn't pay. Credence, to no he's gonna play
it like they're viewing this this guy as someone.
Speaker 1 (09:39):
Who can come in and.
Speaker 2 (09:40):
CONTRIBUTE immediately i definitely underestimated that because that's what he's doing.
Speaker 1 (09:43):
Right, now.
Speaker 3 (09:46):
Yeah it's they hit it out of. The BALLPARK like
i Know that leah McNeely has to hit the. Ground
running but if when you hit three out of four
draft picks in the, same year that's, a win that's.
A win that is such an enormous boost to your long.
Term potential, and like for the, MOST part i think
they've done well in building this Roster Tee john salon,
(10:09):
All right like, last year that SEEMS like i don't
want to say, Lost cost like if they if he
gives them, something eventually that's an. Added bonus i'm keeping
my on them a little bit.
Speaker 2 (10:20):
For, SURE james i just love him he's getting baptized
by fire on the defensive ends Surviving the hornets have
actually been pretty good defensively when He And ryan kalkbrenner
are on, the court they are in the seventy first
percent tile of points lot per possession when those two
are on. The, floor uh the offense a little bit,
iffy there but you're looking at some of the lineups
(10:42):
they've had to. RUN in i think, the bigger the
more impressive stat to me more is that when the
three rookies they have Four, But James, ryan Kulkbrenner and
conkinent will play Together Without LaMelo Ball Or brandon miller on,
the Court the hornets have won those minutes.
Speaker 1 (10:58):
So far that's kind. OF bonkers, i mean you KNOW
how i Feel, about LaMelo so i'm not even Gonna say.
Speaker 2 (11:06):
I'm not making Him. A melo i could see how
it comes across as me trying to make It a.
LaMelo discussion i, was, definitely, well no this was it
was more So Through brandon Miller through it's more so
look at this like this is just this is working
independent of what should be their two most important players in.
Speaker 1 (11:23):
THE building i will definitely just suggested that they should
trade both. Of them that's what.
Speaker 2 (11:27):
YOU know, I, think yep THAT'S what. I, did yeah
true or falses of, right now.
Speaker 1 (11:32):
Only no more than two TEAMS because i don't know how.
Speaker 2 (11:35):
To like you Look At. Cooper flag you know what he's.
Gonna be We Like, dylan harper WE.
Speaker 1 (11:39):
Like. Vj edgecomb true.
Speaker 2 (11:41):
Or false we'll look back, and Say The charlotte hornets
had a top three draft in twenty, twenty five.
Speaker 3 (11:48):
A top. Three, draft, yeah no, Like, overall, yeah no that. Seems,
true yeah just because you DO. Have vj Edgecomb And
dylan Harper And cooper flag. Voting around but those are very.
Speaker 1 (11:59):
SAY yeah i. THINK that i think.
Speaker 3 (12:04):
THAT'S fair, i mean, so far we're we're seeing three
players out of four do really. Really Well kon kinebble
IS someone i think has Some well i've realized has
a much higher CEILING that i. Originally thought that seems pretty.
Luke warm honestly. Luke, Warm, wow.
Speaker 2 (12:22):
Well look good. For them they got a bunch. Of
rookies let's let's my. Pick here let's talk about the.
Nets youngins Two that i'd like, to, highlights specifically mostly
because they're the only two that seemed to matter to.
That Team Uh jegor Joeman And drake potwell's, playing NOW
and i think those are the Two guys i'm most. Intrigued,
by again they're the two Guys that i've seen the
(12:44):
Most Of, ben serroff he has an ankle injury just
as we were, recording this.
Speaker 1 (12:48):
Or basically right before we Hopped.
Speaker 2 (12:49):
On uh he started the season in the, starting lineup faded.
FROM that i don't know how to feel about. HIM
anymore i Still Like nolan trejori's on, ball speed but
the things we've seen From Yeh, or joeman he's. MORE
comfortable i said this about, summer league getting catch and
shoot threes OFF than i ever expected him. To be
But what i've, Been noticing i'm sure you saw all
the talk, of oh he's not finishing inside, the arc
(13:12):
he's not taking a ton of. Two pointers the big thing,
with him or the, big concern was can he create
enough separation when he's on the ball to run? Your
offense and he's gonna need, ball screens but it's kind
of navigation in the lane and just the passing we've seen.
Speaker 1 (13:26):
From him i'm. A believer I think.
Speaker 2 (13:29):
I don't now do you Think the nets still shil
have taken Him calmery boyles. Came after that might be
a totally different discussion down. THE line i really looking
at him, SPECIFICALLY first i really like him and think
that he's gonna be, very good pretty good rebounder, as
well although that could say a lot about the types
of Lineups the nets are running. Out there the offensive
process with him though not even close. To Finish but
(13:51):
i'm more comfortable with, him overall in large part to me,
because one the off ball stuff it, looks, like oh
that's just, gonna work and he's been playing even better
in those instances since being inserted into the. Starting lineup and,
THEN two i think he can be fine on the,
ball again he might need to be overly reliant on
ball screens to get that. Initial separation that's fine. To
(14:12):
ME so i like for the most Part what i've
seen from him.
Speaker 3 (14:16):
This season that makes one of us, That no, I'M
kidding i agreed to, an Extent so i'm not. There
yet with the on, BALL stuff i am, not There
and i'm also not trusting the volume on the, threes
YET although i will, say this like during summer league
and summer league doesn't count for. Jack shit, but still
(14:36):
when we saw him begin to take those shots with
confidence and with the, more level with, the bigger higher
determinedness than what he did, at college that was the thing.
For me and so far he has come into the
league with more of a mindset, of, Oh yeah i'm
going to get these, shuts UP and i.
Speaker 1 (14:52):
LIKE that i like that.
Speaker 3 (14:53):
A lot the efficiency so far has been, very MIDDLING
and i don't think he's pardon not.
Speaker 1 (15:01):
From three it's been five to three that it's the.
Speaker 3 (15:03):
It's the Three point i'm talking. About it it's just
under for thirty, six percent that is a that's a
little under the, leak average but it's on fifty. Six
Attempts so, I'm like i'm still that point where that
can go. Either way i'm not necessarily trusting, it yet
but the two point thing like where he just cannot get.
In THERE and i know what, you, said, like oh
that's that's been talked about. A, lot yeah it's been
(15:23):
talked about a lot because that's an issue like that's
pretty important if if you're a six' nine leak guard
or that at least that's the the project that you're
working on becoming you how to utilize your size at
a to your advantage a. Little bit, MORE right now
i think he's kind of falling into like the the early,
(15:45):
stage Is Okay see josh giddey thing where he doesn't
really realize he's six,' eight six' nine doesn't really understand how,
to use that choice advantage so when, he gets into
the paint he's basically acting. Like a small point, GUARD
that IS concerning now i do, i, DO want to
say though i appreciate, you Highlighting the good stuff because
(16:06):
i'm just sitting there with such An underwhelming feeling overall,
About brooklyn's draft so far like, EVEN during the actual
draft i was, scratching my head pretty thoroughly and so far.
Speaker 1 (16:18):
We haven't seen anything that.
Speaker 3 (16:20):
KIND of justifies as yet i, think it's fair to say,
like you were asking me do you think they? Should
have gone this direction if we were to look at the,
actual twenty twenty five draft could we not make an
argument that they could have gone in.
Speaker 1 (16:36):
A better direction with literally? All of their?
Speaker 2 (16:38):
First routers is it so who is the Name That,
so starting with joe man who is the name that
You would have DECIDED? Be is it just cmb is
there another other names that are standing out TO you,
When you're saying i definitely so?
Speaker 3 (16:54):
What do we build in do we build in like
how we liked, the guy during the draft or how
it teams were looking. At him, becau centric coward, to
me it's, also interesting. He'd be interesting For Sure it's?
Just was cedric art mentioned was he? BEING mentioned in
the range i think, that's what's tough about. This especially
so early, On.
Speaker 1 (17:12):
He was he was he was looked at, it like
in the? Twenties he WAS.
Speaker 2 (17:15):
He was was he i remember him being talked about
as one of the, like the top.
Speaker 1 (17:19):
Ten prospects pretty.
Speaker 3 (17:20):
And fluctuated there was a point in time during the
start of last, season, where, they were like oh yeah
he's going to be a lot of re selection and
he just DIDN'T shoot a lot at boyq. And uh
he was inefficient, then that stock started dropping like there
might have been a murmur of optimism a couple. Of
days before, the draft now that now? Did you actually
mention it now just GETTING reminded there might be i
(17:42):
do remember some, report, for, some outlets saying oh yeah
it seems actually liking. THIS guy so that's, fair i
forgot about that but overall it did feel like he
was primarily. SLOTTED in the early twenties i don't remember
him getting. LIKE TOP TEN bus though.
Speaker 2 (17:59):
I i i think you it's debatable whether they. SHOULD
have gone with him i don't know, if the list
of players especially now is long enough to say it's
easier When You Get Into the, danny wolf's nolan treire's
right it's just because. That RANGE is so turbulent but
i think, it's as of right now it, might be
fair to say especially when you, LOOK at who they
drafted cmb might make some.
Speaker 1 (18:20):
MORE sense FOR.
Speaker 2 (18:21):
This team i just i recognized, the inside the arc
stuff and you want him to be able to put.
MORE pressure on the basket i just think he's going
to be able to do more in the lane and
inside the. Arcs as things, go on, so it's look
it's early.
Speaker 1 (18:36):
THAT'S why we're.
Speaker 2 (18:36):
Doing this i just can't so you're sitting there and
you think that if, you were running the nets you
would Have Taken someone other than.
Speaker 1 (18:42):
Yegor joeman at number eight? Is, THAT what you're saying
LOOK i.
Speaker 2 (18:46):
Was.
Speaker 1 (18:46):
A big cmb guy huge actually we're both what did
WE say.
Speaker 2 (18:50):
We were both CMB guys we Were not, cmb, on
the raptors guys right.
Speaker 3 (18:54):
And we're gonna get. There, we're gonna get there yeah.
Because honestly we were wrong but that wasn't. As much
of rapturous issue that Was Just A question of calin
murray boyles being so good.
Speaker 1 (19:05):
That he isn't. Really. Matter.
Speaker 2 (19:06):
It doesn't matter YEAH yeah the other guy i Didn't
Want to HIGHLIGHT is drake powell that i don't know
IF he was considered just i don't know a ton
of THESE guys, coming into the nba anyway just go
off summer. LEAGUE for the most part i don't know
if he was considered and he was the one who
didn't play, IN summer league for them i don't know
if he was considered. Their SECOND most intriguing prospect and
(19:27):
i do wonder how many minutes Is He getting if
the cam thomas injury Kind Of never happens and.
Speaker 1 (19:32):
Ben surroff doesn't.
Speaker 2 (19:32):
Fade early that dude tries so, HARD on the defensive
end i would not be Shocked If he made an
all defense team by the. Time his career is over
we're gonna have to see if. He gives you Enough,
offense but he is yeah he. Is on people light glue,
he's fine like navigating, screens you can move like he
can do stuff where he's switching away from the ball to,
(19:54):
and he's not super huge but he looks to me
like someone who could really guard up and he made
he will make life on comfortable for, anyone who has
the ball anyone, who doesn't have the ball who's trying.
TO run around the floor i don't know. What he,
IS just yet on offense i think that we've seen
some he shooting, okay on drives this year but very
low volume kind of. HIT or miss from three I
(20:15):
that's the one where, i, look at and Say okay
they might have you look, at EVERYONE else they drafted,
and i think you're wondering do they have a two
Way prospect in.
Speaker 3 (20:23):
The mad yeah they do it's hit and yeah and
surprisingly so because again ONE of these guys who i
thought was, going to, take a while highly athletic very
much not THAT refined as, you and c you know,
was getting plenty of minutes not really, providing a lot
of production like he was pretty sure horned into like
(20:45):
a defensive minded. Set role and you were you didn't
really feel comfortable whenever he. Had to do more offensively
i'm not sure how many of these guys just because
of THE increased spacing at the nba level and they
come in, and they just show more whether that's a
thing or if he just basically spend the, entire Summer
going OH yeah. NOW i'm an nba player i have
(21:07):
to be able to score points in order to actually
MAINTAIN my. Status as an nba, player but he looks.
Better he looks more comfortable it's, a really small sample,
Size only Seven Games played so like i'm i'm hoping
there's a, level of, SUSTAINABILITY here because like you i,
THINK he's Intriguing at, least I just, i'm excited, but
(21:27):
i'm not you know as Excited at, that, point, where
i'm like oh yeah like this this was the guy,
They should have picked. EARLIER like at Twenty, two i
think he's. Yeah he's a fair pick he might be
the only, one, where, you can say oh yeah this
justifies the position and like this justifies the draft, WITH praise, there, Right.
Speaker 1 (21:46):
Yeah i KNOW sorry well because they i, on that
DRAFT at all which.
Speaker 2 (21:50):
IS i think that's fair i look at him as
just he's, probably because for me anyway the expectations. Were
so muted coming in he might be The prospect from
them that, i've been most excited about but it also
just it came without a, ton of, BACKGROUND on it
so right i, guess, the.
Speaker 1 (22:05):
Bigger question is though is it concerning that.
Speaker 2 (22:09):
They have these five rookies it's kind of really only
worth focusing on two of them right when you're looking
at their play on the court. Or how much they've
played how big of a concern is that when we
are so early on, IN this, process for you i.
Speaker 3 (22:22):
Mean you draft five, guys in, THE first round and look,
i don't want to simplify but the highest point total
of any one of them is seven points per game
on a team that is just so drastically need, of
people to do something be that just. Something as, simple
as scoring like you just none of these guys so far.
(22:46):
Has stepped into a role none of these guys is
not really at least like, YOU can you can argue
i guess you can argue that they have and where, the,
team is intentionally saying hey look we're not going to
throw you into the fire at forty minutes, thirty five minutes,
PER night which you know i see the advantages of,
(23:06):
That to a certain extent but this where some of
them are barely playing and where you can't rely on,
them to hit a shot or where there are a
lot of. Defensive and even offensive inconsistencies LIKE there's a
reason that, I.
Speaker 1 (23:20):
Didn't like their draft dan it was all.
Speaker 3 (23:23):
Very much upside upside upside there wasn't really a thorough
baseline on any one, Of THESE guys coming in and
i can respect to some extent that they were swinging
for the FENCES and saying upside like i, Generally don't
hate that mindset but during, the actual ceasing last year when,
everyone was looking at them you were questioning the. Long
(23:46):
term effects, as well you were questioning what is? This
guy in five years? What is this ultimate, potential so
my ultimate Fear and, that's probably why i'm skeptical is
that these guys are only going to get so want.
Better and not drastically, BETTER and God damn. It i
hope i'm wrong.
Speaker 1 (24:05):
That's a.
Speaker 2 (24:05):
Good way to frame it they just have so Many
guys to where it's but there are some guys who
are playing a Ton Of Minutes like a michael porter
junior or a ton Of, Minutes Relative, TO the nets
nick claxton i think some people, could push back and
say and you, mentioned this a little bit they're gonna.
Bring them along more slowly maybe we'll see them unleash these.
(24:26):
Guys At the trade deadline the nets are not a
team where you're sitting there saying we need to wait
until the trade deadline, to roll these guys out unless
you're really Your Mission Is, To Showcase, Michael Porter junior
nick claxton terrence man and so, It COULD be problematic
there but i like the way that you Finish that
to where if i'm watching all these Guys based off the,
(24:47):
possessions I've seen FROM them and i've seen I Fell,
in LOVE with drake powell so I Watch. A lot
of drake powell now HE'S actually the only one i look,
AT so far and say i think. He'll get A
lot better and that's i Might Just be higher on
yegor joeman baseline, than you to begin with but. That
could be potentially problematic, i'm, less CONCERNED than you though
because I do think that the nets will get a
(25:08):
little bit more.
Speaker 1 (25:09):
Creative as we.
Speaker 2 (25:09):
Move forward, if they don't you know if We're, getting
past the trade deminer we finished the season and we're
still having we're wondering what three or four of these
rookies could look. Like with, heavier rotation minutes then yeah there's, there's,
a big issue there right who's? Your next, ROOKIE slash team.
Speaker 3 (25:28):
Oh well i mean, We Kind Of, teased him colin
murray boyles we GOT to. GO into, some, CMB man
i mean look i think we were fair in being
worried About will he play in toronto because of.
Speaker 1 (25:41):
All the forwards, and, Whatnot.
Speaker 3 (25:44):
He basically said Yeah I'm gonna find minutes, wherever i'm.
Gonna end up. Doesn't matter i'm too GOOD and the
fact that, i know it's LOW volume he's only taken. I,
WANT to make sure okay i actually thought it was,
more only eighteen to three so it's. Even A smaller
samples thought.
Speaker 2 (26:00):
And i think, the thing with him too is that
that sample size is propped up on two games of
he made like a.
Speaker 1 (26:07):
Good number, of his threes.
Speaker 3 (26:09):
Yeah yeah One of them against the spurs where he
Actually just pulled up on wemby a couple, of times and, trained,
it which was Like Okay.
Speaker 2 (26:15):
The the injured victor webenyama we might add it's gonna
miss a few WEEKS with. A with a caf, strain.
Speaker 1 (26:21):
Oh has come out he's going to. Miss. A couple
of weeks yep scham's just actually reported a few. Minutes
ago as. We're, RECORDING oh that's.
Speaker 2 (26:27):
Unfortunate yeah i can see but but it'll be interesting
because now we just Get A, ton of who luke
Cornett We'll see some maybe bismack biambo is. Going to
get some run now that's that's why we tune in. For, The,
spurs more. Right, YEAH no, THAT'S unfortunate yeah i.
Speaker 1 (26:44):
Was i was being physic, there's no, blessing in disguise.
Speaker 3 (26:47):
You know not just had leak source said he would be. Reevaluating, two,
to three weeks, yeah which by the way it's a
SELFISH thing for me because i had HIM. Ask my
m v p so this is probably going to just circle.
That third down, The drain so ALL right.
Speaker 2 (27:02):
And because this i was mentioning this to people, WHEN
they were asking me i, got Text messages.
Speaker 1 (27:07):
About oh g annobe's injury. Oh it's only two weeks.
Speaker 2 (27:10):
Reevaluated does not mean back it means we will get
an update, in two to three. Weeks and, THAT'S what's
concerning so man i the discourse around him is gonna
suck if he ends up not qualifying for, awards trying
to scale ahead the discourse around him. Is going, to
absolutely suck Oh yeah like The defensive, Pert, of the.
Speaker 3 (27:30):
Year thing yeah big TIME the calf strain span i
do love though that seems are looking, at that now
going yeah if That's a, Precursor to an achilles tear
we're gonna opt for the two to, three weeks at
least initially. AND then reevaluate from there i. Have no issues,
with that that is no.
Speaker 2 (27:49):
You have to be cautious but it's the spurs looking
when he's on the floor like a formidable contender. Maybe
or CLOSE to it and then i guess at least
with this time you ARE able, To Explore.
Speaker 1 (28:01):
The i mean dylan harper, is STILL banged up.
Speaker 2 (28:03):
Too but i mean Just Looking at uh the aaron
fox backs like you could run more stuff and. See
what he looks like we also apparently can't get A
Consistent sample With.
Speaker 1 (28:11):
The aaron fox and victor webanyama is it is not meant.
Speaker 3 (28:14):
TO be, at, this point i, mean LOOK it'll happen
eventually but i do Think. This is good For Fox
This is poor colin murray boyles taking up back seats
Of suddenly talking.
Speaker 1 (28:23):
About the. Spurs full time stamp it you can skip
ahead to.
Speaker 3 (28:25):
The conference conference rookie episodes missing three.
Speaker 1 (28:30):
Weeks is a big deal when you look At. The
LANDSCAPE of the west so i.
Speaker 2 (28:33):
Guess Get ready for more jeremy sohan at center is
is what.
Speaker 1 (28:37):
We should be bracing.
Speaker 3 (28:38):
For oh, that, that's, DISGUSTING YEAH OKAY yeah NO i
i I Need i need Some luke Cornette And some
kelly o.
Speaker 1 (28:46):
Linic, center, MINUTES if anything now look.
Speaker 3 (28:51):
I will say This, opens up something For Fox. But
also for stefan castle he's been pretty. Good to start,
the year he's been very very. GOOD to start the
year i know. The shooting concerns. Are real they're very.
Real it's a major issue but name me a guy who.
LIKE he does EVERYTHING else i Think He's i Still Have.
(29:11):
Alman THOMPSON over stefan castle but i think the gap
that people are talking about is not as big as
they make It out as like he's they're, in, somewhat
that same conversation LIKE the. Defense is something i trust
the all around play.
Speaker 1 (29:26):
Just came.
Speaker 3 (29:27):
OUT of nothing the playmaking i didn't think he had
that level of court division. That HE'S displayed, this year
so i mean this could be an interesting Couple of
weeks for, the spurs, to basically See All right let's
get daron, fox into A Certain flow let's get stefan.
Castle into a certain Flow.
Speaker 2 (29:42):
To Your point about victor wmer yama being out and
being able to, GET these other Guys more i guess
on ball, looks or into, a flow as you said
at some point you want everybody to, get into, a
float together of course and and just the lack of.
SAMPLE'S eye with everyone available i, know it's Still Early
season but now dearon Fox has been on the spurs.
For over a half year technically they're not. Playing games,
(30:05):
that entire time of course, just kind, of a. Bummer
major bummer major bummer Can, We, GET to calamary boyle
sir i would love to know the defense as, If
we ever questioned it really like that has been impressive
for a twenty year old rookie who's had to play,
a lot out of position and who is undersized even if.
(30:29):
He was playing the, four he's only six seven so,
like he's not that big but. The motor is just
uncanny the passing ankles are, there like he's The.
Speaker 3 (30:39):
Again almost like kankin nipple the raw cyst total doesn't represent.
His value as a passer he's really good at. Just
making the right passes he snaps the ball back and
forth quickly on the perimeter in. BASICALLY ever set their running.
I just love his composure he's. Not afraid to take
shots this is a team than when they eventually figure
(31:03):
out what they're gonna do on the wing and not
have like three wings start and they get, rid OF
one of them which i have to assume is going
to be for a guard or.
Speaker 1 (31:12):
A center.
Speaker 3 (31:12):
DOWN the line i am i am going to love
to see him step into like a thirty. MINUTE role,
At the four i yeah, i'm, just waiting, for his.
Like you know official arrival.
Speaker 1 (31:26):
I've liked, how.
Speaker 2 (31:26):
They've used him too because he's listed in the center.
In a lot of lineups but some of those lineups
he's listed in A center and he's with Mammu On
the court and scotty barnes.
Speaker 1 (31:35):
On the court AS well that's the trio i would.
Speaker 2 (31:37):
Like to see more of i've only seen, a LITTLE
bit of it and i went and looked they've. Played
sub twenty minutes together they're allowing point.
Speaker 1 (31:44):
Ninety four points per possession when.
Speaker 2 (31:45):
They're on the floor together that has the potential to,
be you're trying To Juggle so like putting calmary boils
in a situation to where it doesn't feel like, he's
undersized where he's playing but you don't want to give up.
Too much On either end and with, mamu's the idea
of hiscing even the stuff he. Could do as A
Driver we know what scotty. Barnes is at this point
just a spectacular player. Both ends of the court that's.
(32:08):
A trio that intrigues me being able. To flesh out
from there it's been kind of a bummer because a
lot Of the games minutes that I've seen where he's
in i'll call IT His Core lineup WITH rj ingram
barnes and i think quickly the results on that.
Speaker 1 (32:21):
Lineup have not been.
Speaker 2 (32:22):
Great they've been hammered in the minutes, that they've played
together STATISTICALLY, but when you watch cmb they're figuring out
ways to use him even when it feels as if
the context of the personnel that he's. With doesn't necessarily
make sense the screening for. Him is already really good we,
see you mentioned the passing like being able to make
decisions out of the short role even if the assist.
Numbers Don't immediately show it and i'll JUST say THIS
(32:45):
is another i Know I, said THIS about drake powell
but I really mean it With cmb to where IT'S
i'm not gonna say i wouldn't be surprised if he.
MADE an all defense team i want to know how
many all. Defense teams he's gonna make that's THE, question
for me with cmb because he is able to just
blow things up from basically. Every spot on the floor
it kind, OF feels like right now.
Speaker 3 (33:07):
I wouldn't, Be surprised if the, raptures Like if this
experiment and i'm not saying that, there's cost to you.
Know tear it all, Down they're eight and five they've
had a good start to. The year all things considered
but if it doesn't work and they do eventually have
to press, the big red reset button and if they're
looking to acquire, more draft picks or whatever and They, Can't, Get.
(33:31):
That from kram barnes barrett And if they don't believe
wills to, be like a key piece there are a
lot of teams already trying to win, now that could
use him despite.
Speaker 1 (33:40):
THE fact that he's twenty.
Speaker 2 (33:41):
I do find it interesting you're you've mentioned it a couple,
of times now about oh are they going to need
to make. The reset, button or changes they're like they're
kind of rolling right now the top top five.
Speaker 1 (33:50):
NET rating, and.
Speaker 3 (33:52):
We'll see i mean THIS is a team that. I
had some questions about. I Think you did too the
scottie barn stuff is interesting to me because if that,
shot is, real this year that changes. That changes so
many things that's been the one thing from my perspective.
That he's just been missing i've been looking at him
(34:14):
as this new age entree iguodala that, As Opposed To
you know scottie pippam and and if that shot comes
around and, he can, be you, know, better offensively more,
efficient offensively more versatile offensively that'll have a huge.
Speaker 1 (34:29):
Ripple.
Speaker 3 (34:29):
Effect, on everyone else oh Also It's nice to see
manuel quickly is. Actually having a pulse again that's. NICE like,
to see that i.
Speaker 2 (34:35):
Mean that's big for, them The look it is the
raptors on paper were built to be pesky if, they
hit on Some things and right now i'm not gonna.
Say they Hit on everything but if, emmanuel quickly is
coming along You're Getting this version of scottie barnes who.
Shooting over Forty on threes it, does it wasn't last,
season was? It twenty three twenty four didn't it feel
(34:56):
like we were kind of having a little. Bit of
the same discussion he starts, off the season From. Deep
kind of like gangbusters but we'll. SEE if, this keeps
Up i mean what's probably do you view this as
encouraging or not that he's actually shooting a higher percentage
on his self created threes than.
Speaker 1 (35:12):
HIS catch and shoot threes i, think that's. A good sign?
Speaker 2 (35:15):
Isn't, IT you would, think yeah i think, yes, because
you you assume okay he's going to shoot better than
thirty six point one.
Speaker 1 (35:21):
ON catch and. Shoot threes i.
Speaker 3 (35:23):
Would assume so, it's interesting by, the way when you
say like, the hit, on several things you know just
the Fact That they Hid on, murray boyle's and mamu alone.
THOSE two were major additions i mean that is something
that flies on, the radar a little bit Like what?
Speaker 1 (35:37):
Did what? Did? Mamu get? Was it that?
Speaker 3 (35:39):
Was?
Speaker 1 (35:39):
IT in the minimum. Right i think, It, was he.
Might have yeah it wasn't he didn't. GET a. TON
of money i don't i don't remember exactly.
Speaker 3 (35:47):
Why he's signing two, point four million this year so
it's practically the minimum one point. Six percent of the
cap like when you hit, on a guy like that
and you also get a guy in from the draft
who is that good defensively at the age of, twenty
and you. You're, healthy that also. Matters yeah it's. It's
huge it's absolutely huge good on the. Raptures, LIKE we needed.
Speaker 2 (36:09):
This YEAH, I, think what is cmb like what is
the swing skill that would? Make is it just shooting,
is the oversimplified to say what's the swing skill that?
Speaker 1 (36:19):
Would turn him?
Speaker 2 (36:20):
Into iliber is, IT oversimplifying if it's true, I THINK
it is true but i feel a lot of people, get,
annoyed when it's just oh we'll have, to see if he's,
shooting holder if he can can he bring up the
three point volume or. Be more CONSISTENT from there but
what i think is important about that is if you
don't want to play, him As your, actual, five Where
(36:42):
i'm saying okay, no MoMu on the front no. Other
big on the four he needs to be able to
take PROBABLY what a, minimum of i would say four to.
Speaker 1 (36:51):
Five threes per thirty? Six?
Speaker 3 (36:53):
Is, that too low slightly probably especially as the. League,
KEEPS increasing, that, range well i mean look if people are,
gonna think that's too. SIMPLISTIC we can dig. Deeper i
don't know why it's like sometimes people just have to
accept that the best answer at times. Can't be a
simple one but if we are to go deeper buildings
(37:18):
to get to the free throw. LINE more would be.
Nice i wouldn't hate that just. HE'S a, huge wide
body i mean he's not tall, compared to where, he
plays but. Like that he's insanely muscular he's got what
a two hundred and fifty pound frame or. Some, more along,
those lines yeah utilize it, get to the.
Speaker 1 (37:36):
Paint. PROFILES hit free throws.
Speaker 2 (37:38):
Yeah i mean he's getting to. The rim quite a
bit his finishing. Has gotten a little better it was
pretty low at. The BEGINNING of the season so i,
don't have any major concerns which is why default to
the shooting, and if you want yeah and if you want,
it to look and say what do we make of
this ample size or of the ebbs and flows to
where there's. Two games carrying the percentage it's very encouraging
that this isn't someone who is. Milking it off the corners.
(38:01):
He's hitting an arc threes he's seven or fourteen on arc.
Threes As we're recording this so i'm gonna. Ask You
too overarching questions then i'm gonna. Let's make this Straight
Up do you think calinary Boyles Will ever?
Speaker 1 (38:13):
Make? AN all star. Team YEAH i think so then
i guess.
Speaker 2 (38:19):
The ANSWER to your question if i set the over
Under On the Number Of all defense teams calamary boyles
makes for his, career one and a half will you take,
The over of the.
Speaker 1 (38:27):
Under i'm gonna go. Over i'm gonna go.
Speaker 2 (38:29):
Over I'm gonna go over and i'm also just gonna
guess that, before he finishes his Career We have a,
third all defense team anyway which would make it a little.
Speaker 1 (38:37):
Bit. Easier, to go over.
Speaker 3 (38:39):
YEAH like and, part of i will say some of
my logic is also associated with the fact that there
are injuries and, there's the threshold of games like some
people are just.
Speaker 1 (38:50):
Not gonna, make that. Threshold so no he can he can.
Get in. THAT way, too.
Speaker 2 (38:57):
That's fair i mean it's not gonna, happen this season
anyway regardless but Very. Nice pickup for the rappers let's.
Go to it's My Turn let's talk About Trey, johnson
of the washington wizards who you caused quite a. FUR
when you compared, HIM i would say to i wouldn't
say to You Did compare him to jordan hawkins for
some reason of one of your most.
Speaker 1 (39:17):
Outlandish, takes on this podcast well see, that.
Speaker 3 (39:20):
Is LACKING in nuance sir what i said was, that
coming into the league he had a very similar disposition
and shot Profile And. Analytics bas AS jordan. Hawkins THAT'S
what i, said what, i said was, and people if
they're upset THEY should, also note that i said there's
(39:40):
A Spectrum here That's Called. Jordan hawkins and, ray allen
BY the way, That's, what i, SAID said yeah.
Speaker 2 (39:49):
Go ahead i was just gonna say you, also the thing,
that said as you said he's, not necessarily a good
shooter which was one like the thing that he was
known for coming in and has been pretty good.
Speaker 1 (39:58):
Shooter, WHEN they've GIVEN him.
Speaker 3 (40:00):
Though i Thought I, said That About. Jordan hawkins not
TREY johnson.
Speaker 2 (40:02):
Oh maybe maybe i misheard you If, You, were TALKING about,
Jordan well maybe.
Speaker 1 (40:05):
I misspoke like people are upset At That.
Speaker 3 (40:07):
Because THAT'S that's jordan hawkins was i remember saying something
along the line sheets, A, shooter who Doesn't Shoot. WELL
that was jordan, hawkins I Was. REFERRING to not trey
johnson i haven't, had the OPINION at, least so if.
I misspoke that's on me i haven't had the Opinion
At any point that trey. Johnson WAS a bad shooter,
what i, am asking is you know in, terms of
(40:28):
the broader, Question, We're just asking questions dan that's what
you're always saying is does he have the ability to
attach volume to. A high, Level of, Efficiency so far i'm,
Encouraged like through thirteen Games I'm not. DOWN on trey
johnson whatsoever i still have questions as to which side
of the f wore mentioned spectrum. He's gonna fall out
(40:50):
on but like it's Becoming Less and less of, jordan
hawkins every single day.
Speaker 1 (40:55):
WHICH is a Good Sign.
Speaker 2 (40:57):
I never, SAW jordan, hawkins in him i think and
not all, of it has come together but there's a lot.
Speaker 1 (41:03):
Of on ball stuff there i'd like to see him.
Speaker 2 (41:06):
Get to the basket more and the part of this
is Just his role with the wizards is not going to.
NECESSARILY allow it right now i think they've done a. Good,
job of MIXING in okay he's gonna, i don't wanna
call freelance but he, will work on the ball try
and get those self created jumpers. Up that he wants
to but he's come in, AND he's to his credit
i think he's done a good job of playing off
other people and over thirty seven percent from. Three is
(41:28):
a great number he's at over forty percent. ON his
catch and shoots i don't see anything like HE'S take some.
Shots that i don't like when. He's working off the
dribble with forty two percent on pull up twos at
the moment. Is probably fine for me i'm curious to.
See what he can do if you want to put,
HIM on the ball more i think you are going
to need more from. Him AS an overall passer and
(41:51):
i don't know if he's someone that you want running
more methodical offense just, yet or necessarily maybe ever but
you want that to be you want, the answer to
be yes because that's going TO be the way that
i think could. Really open up his game he's only
passing on twenty two percent. Of his drives right now that,
Is An incredibly low number so i'd like to see.
(42:12):
More OF that from him but i also recognize when
You're In the role that trey johnson is a lot
of that stuff is especially if you're.
Speaker 1 (42:17):
Working away from the ball they.
Speaker 2 (42:19):
Want this dude, to score, and there's YEAH there's, good
there's a i mean this is. A compliment to this
part there's a heavy fluidity to the WAY he moves
to where i feel like if, this if he gets
stronger like he's not gonna make a ton of sense
on the. Ball in a good way and. Some of
the he hasn't he's taken, eight shots at the rim which.
Is just way too low but like some of just
(42:40):
the fluidity with the way he's going to use the,
the angles around the basket or you're just looking at
the way that he uses his hands when he's Going
to try and finish i'm a big believer in what
he could become as a scorer to where it's if
we look back and say he's at least a hyper
efficient two level scorer who can sometimes, do things at the.
Rim MAYBE in certain, Lineups but i DON'T know and
(43:01):
this is i think people were prepared for the answer.
TO be no on this i don't know if he can,
be a LEAD ball handler even though i think his.
BALL handling will be fine i don't view him as
someone just yet or can he drive the offense for
others at a high enough clip and, Maybe in the
secondary units but if we're looking, and, trying to figure
(43:23):
out well who's gonna be The floor general of the
wizards for the, FUTURE in the starting lineup i, don't
VIEW that as him, but i do, view him and
like now when you get into that territory of guys
we say that about their value starts to get Muddied
to where people don't he's not, comparing him to This
player but the cam thomas Is, the and form me simons.
Speaker 1 (43:44):
It feels like perception of.
Speaker 2 (43:46):
Them has never been lower there's he he seems more
likely to turn out to be A tyler hero or
even i just don't see the, passing there yet from
him but like some of the stuff he can do
with the ball in his, hands And Away, from it
a vian booker but maybe A Worse. PASSING version of devin,
Booker i really like him but the question for me
(44:06):
coming in is the, same QUESTION it wasn't now as
i don't know what to make of him, as a
on ball facilitator even if you're talking about the, second
Facilitator on a team and i'm hoping we get a
Metric Ton of evidence post all star break on what
or post trade deadline.
Speaker 1 (44:23):
On what that looks LIKE.
Speaker 3 (44:24):
Are we sure that nba teams are as low on
guys who are, primarily off ball players though because Like
When you're Talking About, cam thomas and anthony simons these
guys also spend plenty of time on the ball taking,
Away posessions from other. Players and that sounded negative, That's
not like by intent but like when you handle the
ball a lot and, you initiate your own offense. It does,
(44:45):
squeeze the, clock it does you know make you somewhat.
More Of An, isolation case, if trey johnson theoretically speaking
Just Leans into like a klay thompson type of, Shot
profile where, you Know i'm play finisher but i'm a
perimeter play Finisher and that's. Basically all i'm gonna do,
But at the same time i'm gonna be freaking. A
(45:06):
leite at it is is that a bad, thing because
as we know guys who shoot the ball, in catch
and shoot situations who don't, spend a lot of time
who don't have a, high usage rate that, well like
they're low. Turnover they're usually high efficient what they're really being.
Asked to do is defend like if you can hit
the three ball and, you could do so efficiently you
(45:27):
don't turn the ball over and you can. Offend at
a good LEVEL it feels like the nba are awarding these.
Speaker 1 (45:33):
Guys a lot of money. And a lot of opportunities.
Speaker 2 (45:36):
He's also bigger THAN some of the players i, mentioned
at SIX or five and again i think he's very
clearly has the ability to be three level, so BECAUSE
of the future so i don't but AGAIN that's. Just
the question i have Just, ASKING questions about DRA josson
i would, say i would say overall he's probably MET
my expectations.
Speaker 1 (45:56):
For what I would expect it maybe i don't know
who we would.
Speaker 2 (45:58):
Have been missing expectations for i'm just curious to see
if they start to. USE him in DIFFERENT ways i
will say i like the way that. They're NOT always
going in although i THINK he's at what, forty i
want to say forty two percent on pull up twos
and forty. Seven percent from mid RANGE that is someone
who i think is going to keep defenses off kilter
with the ability to get to.
Speaker 1 (46:15):
Those in between spots when. He is on? The ball
who's your next. You're sitting there IN silence you?
Speaker 2 (46:19):
Gotta do i have, more we're gonna need you especially
when it's your pick to.
Speaker 1 (46:23):
Actually, transition, a little.
Speaker 3 (46:24):
BIT okay well fair enough i don't have that dog.
In me UNLESS. You do, and as vj edgecombe do
LIKE see you, see what i did.
Speaker 1 (46:31):
There that's a. Called transition that. Was good that's A sequay.
That's a seque.
Speaker 3 (46:36):
Edgecombe Man so unfortunately he's been he's come back to
earth is probably the.
Speaker 1 (46:43):
Best way to.
Speaker 3 (46:43):
SAY it and that's unfortunate i don't want to call it,
a rookie wall or anything but like now you, have
to raise the question was the first couple of games
just in anomaly or is he going through a bit of?
A rough patch right, Now both could be true so.
It's it's interesting to me it's just like trying to
figure out where's he going to fall here because right
(47:06):
now he's not a. High efficiency player like that he
went through a couple of games a week or, two
actually of shooting struggles like he's barely cracking. Forty percent,
from the field so like do we buy stock into
the opening game and the, Follow, up game and say
okay this is a, guy you can build around or
(47:28):
are we just basically putting him back to basically where
we had him before the draft in saying this, guy's
going to be good but.
Speaker 1 (47:36):
IT might take a year. I struggle with this one
where do you land on it? In? Terms of?
Speaker 3 (47:40):
The potential yeah all right so when he's displayed the ability,
to get to, the rim which he has when he's
displayed the ability to get to those spots on the
floor that, he needs to get to that those two.
Factors alone are quite impressive he's a strong rebounder. From
the off guard position he's had several games where. He's
displayed some passing chops he's, Not, High TURNOVER like again
(48:05):
okay like i will, say a lot of minutes so
like the rosstats are being pumped up. A LITTLE bit
Through that but i just i've seen enough to at
least be confident about a certain baseline. Of an all
around game defensively is where it gets interesting because he
came in being billed as this next level defender. At
(48:28):
the OFF guard spot and while i do think he's,
shown us flashes of that he's been asked to DO
so much offensively that i don't think we've necessarily seen
like the full. Plate of his defensive output so it's
interesting To me to see how. Philly GAGES him as
well like i wonder if they're gonna try to scale
back his offensive responsibilities to sort of get back to
(48:51):
a certain defensive baseline to where he can also, select
his opportunities more carefully because there have been a couple
of times since that, they where, He's been like oh
yeah i'm going to chuck this. AT look twenty years. Old,
i can't blame him man coming off a four what's?
The thirty four point debut. Of course you're feeling yourself
(49:12):
of course you're going, To TEST out some limits like
i would be such AN angry old idiot if i
sat here. And blamed him for that of course he's
going to. Have to, Test himself out who wouldn't but
it's just how they catch him as an organization for
the remainder of his rookie season is. Going to be
so crucial.
Speaker 1 (49:31):
Where do you?
Speaker 2 (49:32):
Sort of that was it i've never thought about the
defensive framing, that, way to where it's oh he's doing
so much on the offensive end that we might just
not have the full impressions of.
Speaker 1 (49:41):
What he is capable of but where do you land
on what?
Speaker 2 (49:44):
He SHOULD be doing offensively because i don't think THE
and part of me i know, He's done a lot
offensively but when almost eighty percent of Your Minutes, have
come alongside tyre's maxie he's also doing a. Ton of
the heavy lifting do you VIEW him as someone Just
i have not. Been i've been in prep look the things.
He could do in transition, he will space the floor gets.
(50:04):
UP and down the floor i think he does a
really Good Job, playing off of. Tyres maxley which Is
important what.
Speaker 1 (50:09):
Do you how do you feel.
Speaker 2 (50:10):
About him on the ball he's thrown some nice swing
passes and, thrown some nice passes overall but the separation
when he has, the ball in his hands or just
even the efficient he does want to get to that
pull up and he's shooting under twenty five percent.
Speaker 1 (50:22):
On his pull up.
Speaker 2 (50:23):
Twos THAT still so early But i don't know that i've, Looked,
at him and thought OKAY this is someone that i
want to actually have a ton of offensive Responsibility outside
of being a maybe it's too cruel to say, like
a perimeter play finisher but that almost seems like what
he might because when to Just Bring it back to,
TREY johnson for a second i don't think he needs
(50:45):
to be some, type. OF perimeter PLAY finish right i
know i absolutely want, the ball in his hands even
if it's just as, A scorer at some POINT i
don't KNOW where i land, on vj, edgecomb with that.
Speaker 1 (50:57):
It's interesting.
Speaker 3 (50:58):
THAT'S that's a good question i hadn't thought about it
that way in terms of.
Speaker 1 (51:01):
LIKE just trusting the.
Speaker 3 (51:02):
Ball i guess from what i've seen so far in,
terms of his slashing ability, him getting to the rim.
Like he will get there the Finishing, has been so
so no it's it hasn't been great when. HE'S getting
to the rim i think, we're at like sixty percent
maybe a LITTLE less less fifty NINE i think last
(51:22):
time i saw so you're looking at a bump there,
That usually comes with experience like we're seeing a lot
of perimeter. Players like have that pattern so, if he
can't fix that and if he does retain his current
three point efficiency in terms of being a somewhat high
volume and above, average efficiency finisher from three That is
(51:46):
going to give max at least that backcourt partner that,
you can envision for him especially. If the defense come
along there are a, lot OF IFAs RIGHT now and
i guess i just need to see the priority switch
in terms of how they approach him as an organization
for the rest OF his rookie year before i feel confident, or, comfortable,
(52:09):
even to say oh yeah this is the archetype, that he's,
going to be because frankly we don't, Know's he's very
raw still like there's so many facets to his game.
THAT we don't know about i agree with you by
the way that he does Take, Too many pull, UP
jase and there's this, i hate to say it there
are a couple of times when you're looking at, him play,
(52:30):
and you're thinking Oh no. He has THE kobe gene and,
when i say oh no a lot of, people out
there will go why?
Speaker 1 (52:37):
Is that a bad thing it's always been.
Speaker 3 (52:39):
A Bad thing like that the kobe gene, is not
a good thing but it's being builled as a good
thing and has been.
Speaker 1 (52:46):
For a.
Speaker 3 (52:47):
Long time now it's not it's not, a high efficiency you.
Know approach to basketball. Whatsoever, it's the exact opposite like
so you want to get A little less of. That
cobe gene in him, But having a backcourt made i'm
going to throw it back, to you on this one
Having A, backcourt made like tyres maxi who does seem
(53:07):
to have a very very very, good head on his
shoulders just in terms of like when, to execute A
certain play when do i need, to step UP my
scoring when do i need to.
Speaker 1 (53:16):
Go into like facilitating mode.
Speaker 3 (53:18):
Don't you think that is going to Rub off positively
on edge COBE's further development and actually might just lead
him to find his.
Speaker 1 (53:27):
Organic, role in enough.
Speaker 2 (53:28):
Itself WELL yeah for sure and i think you just
already you kind of already see it Because, He's playing
well with tyler like he's hitting thirty eight Percent of
his threes, with maxi on the floor. And he kind
of understands we know he likes to, Get to his
pull up but has it ever felt to you when
you've watched him That He's.
Speaker 1 (53:45):
Hijacking anything, From, tyres maxi.
Speaker 3 (53:49):
He's twenty yeah he's twenty he's Feeling himself, after, that,
deput come.
Speaker 1 (53:55):
ON yeah NO it happens.
Speaker 2 (53:57):
I guess i, haven't GOTTEN i haven't gotten but i
haven't gotten like enough of, that vibe to.
Speaker 1 (54:03):
Flag IT is, my, point.
Speaker 3 (54:04):
So, i thought okay no like but it happens a couple,
times per game To me like Is that, It's not something, i'm, WORSE.
Speaker 2 (54:11):
It's LIKE you right i think i get more concerned
About His shot selection when tyre's maxi's off THE floor
is and so i guess that's almost a positive, Harbinger
for his development though but he's shooting twenty Five Percent
on twos without. Tyre's maxey on the court and that's
THE one where You Which i wonder because paul george,
is going to be coming And maybe You thought Having
joelle and beat it all would have. Changed this a
(54:33):
little Bit Do you view having paul george as any
help there to where now we're gonna play these different
types of, lineups and during LET'S say, during the non
maxi minutes that you still want those two. TO play
a ton together, i want to be clear but, during
the non maxim minutes It Probably helps to have paul GEORGE.
Speaker 1 (54:50):
On. The, court alongside.
Speaker 2 (54:51):
Vj edgecombe no just to have a different type of
outlet or maybe someone he could.
Speaker 1 (54:54):
Defer, to for more possessions.
Speaker 3 (54:56):
Yes having a veteran who you can go to both
when it's a timeout, situation or on you know. Live
play is? Insanely Valuable Is, THAT guy though paul george
i don't know If he has the.
Speaker 2 (55:12):
In You don't know if paul george has the chops
to be a Good.
Speaker 1 (55:17):
Player, in, a secondary no no. No, No, that he does.
Speaker 3 (55:20):
No no that he does i'm talking, about like THE
timeout Situations Like do i trust paul, george to be?
Speaker 1 (55:26):
You know, TO embrace rather oh no i. Wasn't talking,
about a, mentor that's. OKAY fair enough.
Speaker 3 (55:31):
FAIR enough i think THEN i misunderstood you because i
thought in part that. Was what you Were asking, because, THAT'S.
Speaker 2 (55:36):
Where I'M like uh i DON'T i don't think so
i Think you're spot on with maxie there because he's
all And just his relationship with joelle embiid to. Where
it seems very Candid you could tell that maxie doesn't
And look at what happened maxi be and it helps
when you. Know they're gonna pay you but like being
okay going into restricted free agency Just to get it
(55:57):
just maxie seems to get IT in a away or
i want to insult other players saying this he's just
his leadership or his mentality does.
Speaker 1 (56:06):
Feel like it belies me he is smarter than.
Speaker 3 (56:08):
A lot of other players you, Can, say, IT it's
Okay well no I.
Speaker 1 (56:10):
Meant i'm not because i.
Speaker 2 (56:11):
Think young Players Are mature someone in tyrese, maxi's age
and even status do you, look, at them and say
well they should be the.
Speaker 1 (56:18):
Best leader On the team that's why. I'm saying, he's,
More MATURE he's smarter right and i think you KNOW.
Speaker 2 (56:23):
What's also helpful for vj edgecomb is you're Playing along
someone who is how many Different Types of roles has
tyrese Maxi? Had on the six ers really think about
think about the gamut of. Players, he's, Now operated alongside.
Speaker 3 (56:35):
Yeah no he's tried everything and. That's, work to his
advantage frankly it'd Be Interesting to see if quentin, grimes
sticks there as well, and if, he gets More, you
know familiar with edgecomb because if They're going to try
out edgecombe next year, more it's one you know with
a year.
Speaker 1 (56:53):
Under His spelled.
Speaker 3 (56:54):
And then having crimes, there if he re, signs who
is you know an off ball threat and someone who will.
Speaker 1 (57:00):
Definitely give you. SOME spacing THAT'S interesting too i.
Speaker 2 (57:05):
When?
Speaker 3 (57:05):
I actually this is? Interesting do you do you ARE.
You that comfortable with vj edgecomb to this point where
You're willing to give up jared McCain to solve other?
Issues for, the, most, Yep ALREADY okay yep. Yeah i'm
i don't know so now, if you were to ASK.
Would you rather Have Vj edgecomb Or Con? Kin Nipple
(57:27):
or ace bailey even i'm, not comfortable enough. To say
oh he was he's definitely. Better than Those Two guys
but and ace bailey hasn't had a. Great, START of
the year, No I hear you So but.
Speaker 1 (57:39):
I would BE.
Speaker 2 (57:40):
I've seen enough from vj edgecombe where what would BE
the argument to say i don't want.
Speaker 1 (57:46):
To use the word.
Speaker 2 (57:46):
Expendable but what would be the argument against if if
Something comes along for the sixers to meaningfully improve their
team or just even get a.
Speaker 1 (57:53):
Different type Of draft pick what is?
Speaker 2 (57:55):
Jared McCain's long term value is it because of what
he's able, To do on the ball because that's also
BEEN one of the questions i have is can he
who do you trust to be able To drive in
offense without. Tyre's maxie on the COURT Is it? McCain
or vj edgecombe More at, This POINT.
Speaker 3 (58:12):
Probably edgecombe more but i will say the fact that
he was Able or has been able edgecombe to hit
the three at that that mark that he is that was.
The swing, FACTOR for me, because McCain i do think,
is going, to turn into ultimately speaking a. Wonderful shooter
at this level and so you could make the argument
that he's easier to implement in, certain situations because you know,
(58:34):
as we talked about before, perhaps more off, ball stuff
less on ball just someone who it's always easy. To
Integrate like natural shooters if edgecombe is just kind of
a guy who walks into thirty seven thirty eight percent
from three on, solid volume, every single year guess, what,
that's a natural shooter baby and then you can. Implement
(58:54):
him pretty easily too, and with the, added size, the
defensive upside, the rebounding the slashing capabilities although he will
still need to. Finish, better around the rim yeah IT'S
it's a No, Brainerd i.
Speaker 2 (59:08):
Would probably yeah i'd. Probably land with you there do
you have any other rookies you? Were dying to Talk
About we've covered. THE eastern conference Greatest hits, I think
UNLESS i'm missing i.
Speaker 1 (59:18):
Think I think we have CAN i throw one that
i would? Like?
Speaker 2 (59:22):
TO see more of yeah i Want To see More. Of,
ASA newle in atlanta okay i. Am super intrigued by
it it's the volume, is not there a ton but
he moves really.
Speaker 1 (59:35):
Well on the defensive end you could throw him on.
Speaker 2 (59:39):
A variety of different archetypes the three BALL seems, like
it's just i know the like the form can, look
a little bit awkwards but it just seems like the
three ball might be there at a reasonable. CLIP and
volume for him i don't know how you go about
necessarily carving him out extra playing time in the way
that the front Court, Is SET up in atlanta But,
(59:59):
I really like asan newell i really think that he
is going to be someone who's kind of plug and
play at. Both ENDS of the FLOOR and i Wonder
if I know a kung wu is one is? The
guy driving the Whole should they trade christophs porzengis or They're,
Willing TO trade christophs porzingis but i kind of wonder
if it's Well we also, have asan newell Sitting Here,
in addition to jalen johnson we could probably cobble together
(01:00:19):
a really GOOD from court Rotation, with lkp in general Mogay?
Speaker 1 (01:00:24):
Who can forget about.
Speaker 3 (01:00:25):
Mogay yeah he's been good so you know a guy
who scored what forty seven percent of all the all
the points he scored this season In.
Speaker 1 (01:00:36):
One game against the.
Speaker 3 (01:00:37):
LAKERS i'm glad you're optimistic i will join you in.
THAT exuberance and the enthusiasm. I need TO see more
i just i don't feel comfortable Voicing my Opinion on
asan newell yet it's it's. EIGHTY minutes PLAYED this year
i just I don't feel as if i've seen enough to,
(01:00:59):
sit here and you KNOW determine anything on? His mb
career so far are.
Speaker 1 (01:01:05):
There any other rookies.
Speaker 2 (01:01:06):
You want to talk to Our Surprised we haven't seen Casper.
SHAKACIONAS yet FOR the heat i think i read somewhere
that he's one of only three top twenty picks who have.
Speaker 1 (01:01:15):
Not yet played THIS Season.
Speaker 3 (01:01:17):
Noah s And K Thomas sorber and kasparas shaka. Jonas
So far HAVEN'T, played with tori in acl.
Speaker 1 (01:01:26):
We'll.
Speaker 3 (01:01:26):
Miss the entire, year fortunately by the way how ridiculous
is it that the thunder can have like back to,
back first round draft picks mister, first, seasons, and they're like,
Yeah no it's, we'll manage we'll be okay we'll probably.
Walk into the championship anyway. That DEPTH is just, ridiculous
(01:01:46):
so i actually thought now that you mentioned it. That
he was still injured is he? Like getting DMPs right.
Speaker 1 (01:01:51):
NOW He is in the, G league. At, The moment
i believe.
Speaker 3 (01:01:55):
Okay so like he's rehapping because he was, injured, to
start the year right.
Speaker 1 (01:02:00):
He should, Be, he should be AVAILABLE yeah. As, Far,
as i know okay, Okay.
Speaker 3 (01:02:05):
Well get, on that miami, And also By the Way
chicago picking nois and gay at, twelve and not playing him.
Speaker 1 (01:02:13):
That's kind. Of wild too he's? Healthy?
Speaker 2 (01:02:17):
What, do you so well yeah in their front core is. Kind, Of,
built for it two like you could. DEFINITELY give, him
more minutes i mean.
Speaker 1 (01:02:24):
He Literally hasn't played.
Speaker 2 (01:02:26):
YET well chicago opened up i mean maybe they're getting
to the point where they'll have to play him because
now they they've kind of come back down to earth
after their.
Speaker 3 (01:02:34):
FIVE and oh start wow i, mean even if they
didn't you have to give. A guy certain development minutes
you're picking. HIM in, the damn, lottery, i, MEAN come,
on well yeah i mean just whose minutes?
Speaker 2 (01:02:49):
You want him To take if if if chicago, is
not going to play we know they're not Going To Invest, all.
Speaker 3 (01:02:54):
The dear patrick williams it is with great regret that
we DECIDE to inform. You, that, i don't mind. Like
honestly it doesn't matter i'm not saying he should go.
OUT and, get twenty minutes i mean JUST let him
touch an nba chord before it's like. Twenty, twenty SIX
at least okay, Here I, will say This dear Polls give.
(01:03:16):
The frenchman a christmas present just let Him taste the. Floor,
before december twenty fifth huh just. Just let, him have
it he's healthy HE'S Done. Well in, the g league. Come,
on this is ridiculous.
Speaker 2 (01:03:32):
Yeah and Just To confirm, on the YAKA gionas front
he's been dmp since the seventh or.
Speaker 1 (01:03:36):
Eighth game, Of, the.
Speaker 2 (01:03:37):
Season really okay wow he was because He was dealing
With the it was a coroin injury. RIGHT to open
the year i don't remember.
Speaker 1 (01:03:44):
THE nature of the injury i.
Speaker 3 (01:03:45):
Just.
Speaker 1 (01:03:45):
Remember, him being.
Speaker 2 (01:03:46):
Out yeah so, and the other thing too is it's
not going to get in theory, any easier to play
Him Because when you have, Norman Powell miss some time
tyler heroes, yet to make his debut that you would
think that that would have in like the, stretch to where,
it's okay this, makes sense but the heat. To their
credit are deep their, offense is kind of humming and
(01:04:07):
maybe they think would he slow it down or is
he just not built to make like, they're making super
quick reason maybe they don't want to throw. Him trial,
BY fire, there so well i.
Speaker 3 (01:04:16):
Mean if if he's, he's a pass score guard like
it should be his bread and butter coming into a
fast paced style offense where he can.
Speaker 1 (01:04:28):
Really, display his passing chops.
Speaker 2 (01:04:31):
Yes but he's also a guy that likes to, Work
on the dribble too, and if you're the heat you're
not really trying to run your offense in that type
of way.
Speaker 1 (01:04:42):
To where you don't want him to become. More of a,
ball THREAT though well well and i think.
Speaker 2 (01:04:47):
He'll be fine there, eventually but you are right it
would you, would seem to think that especially given the
injuries they've dealt, with to start the season even just he,
doesn't play the same position. But bam being banged up
it's just to infuse some times of just. Offensive wild
card into it but also do, they, just look at it,
well we don't need it look at like what our.
Offense is doing right now so if you're concerned about
(01:05:07):
what he's going to, DO on the Defensive End i
don't that's, i'm i'm not defending it but. It is
a little bit it's easier for them to justify it,
because you look at, one what they've been doing your
tenth in offense already. And your thirteenth in defense and
the other thing is he did miss the first, Seven
games of the season?
Speaker 1 (01:05:26):
So how, about you reactive go.
Speaker 3 (01:05:28):
Ahead you're, in the playing man like it's not as,
if they're like you, know in the top two like.
Speaker 2 (01:05:35):
Was is that he's had six games in which, he,
Was eligible to Play right so is it It's not
the same As.
Speaker 1 (01:05:42):
Noah, saying, Day, In.
Speaker 3 (01:05:44):
Chicago no No no, but like what i'm, saying is
it like you, if, you're, overly cautious about oh well
the implementation of this rookie for seven minutes in this
ball game, completely fuck up our offense then you have
a shit ton of. Other offense if it, issues if that's,
your thinking like, you know It's to me it's about
(01:06:05):
it's always about trying.
Speaker 1 (01:06:07):
To.
Speaker 3 (01:06:07):
Figure out a balance right if you get a guy,
you like in the draft be that at one. Or
be that at sixty if you as, an organization like
a guy you have to find some type of way to,
get him on the floor even for, a small amount
of minutes, just to test him out because like what
is it going? To do to his confidence like getting
(01:06:28):
passed over again and. Again and again and again Like
you Also it's like i'm, not i'm not supporting oh
like you're getting development minutes and you're getting like thirty
five of them every, single game, just because no like
no unless you're like, some type of you. Know, top
to your prospect sure give him, a quarter for fox, Sakes,
(01:06:50):
it's not a lot like.
Speaker 1 (01:06:51):
JUST give him a.
Speaker 3 (01:06:52):
Chance i, have, One, more uh oh well dancy you
muted yourself again because you. Can't Stop TOUCHING your Microphone.
Speaker 2 (01:07:02):
The so i want mohammed diara to get more Minutes Or,
actual minutes in New york.
Speaker 1 (01:07:11):
Especially with the ojiannobi injury they don't have a ton.
Speaker 2 (01:07:13):
Of WINGS to begin with and i know that sounds
stupid to say For A, Team That, Has Michael.
Speaker 1 (01:07:19):
Bridges josh, harden ojan andobi after. That you Have no.
Speaker 2 (01:07:22):
One, you have Pocom Dadi A You have mohammed diwar
andrew sham has been. Playing really good for Them you
can lean into if, you're playing dual big lineups the need.
For wings kind of decreases if, you're playing three guard
lineups the need. For WINGS kind of Decreases but i
think the knicks have kind of and this is. A
struggle with every contender they just they've let. Player development
(01:07:42):
kind of fall but you need to figure out a way.
To get these guys minutes what's the point of having
them on a get on a like giving them a
roster spot if you don't Think the other night the,
knicks did win the game But Like McHale bridges, after
ojan andobi goes down, plays the entire first quarter doesn't
come out, to start the second quarter and winds up
with forty three. Minutes played in the game what's the
point of having these guys on the roster if you
(01:08:04):
don't think they can buy you time at the end of.
Quarters or to start quarters and the, Bigger thing to
me is i'm not saying the war is.
Speaker 1 (01:08:11):
GOING to be a solution, i think.
Speaker 2 (01:08:12):
He's, VERY good very malleable defensively i doubt he's good going.
To be good right now but you want to know
what you have so that you're not in a situation
to where it's year two and you've already decided we
either Don't Have Enough information on tyler kohlakerpocom dottie. To
throw him in there They Did try to give tyler
kolloch some playing time at, the beginning of the season
(01:08:33):
or you know that he's not ready and then you
can decide to move on.
Speaker 1 (01:08:36):
OR build your roster accordingly i just thought. IT was
a little weird.
Speaker 2 (01:08:40):
I know they didn't have a ton, of resources to
begin with but all their eggs just kind of felt,
In the Basket, OF well josh. Hard og i don't
know we mckel bridges are all going to, be relatively
healthy this season which is. A tough bet to make
they were all relatively healthy last season and. TO bank
on that again i know mckail, bridges is an iron
man but now you're dealing. With the stretch like this maybe,
they NAVIGATE it just fine but i think this is
(01:09:02):
a good opportunity to just go in there And get
Some reps For Mohammed, di.
Speaker 3 (01:09:06):
Aara and pacomb daddier who you go, out and lined
as Well give the give the frenchman duo a. Couple,
of MINUTES here there yeah it's. I don't disagree with
you they, have Both have significant size Ja. VARA more,
SO than daddier i Like i do think the knicks,
could use another three four especially someone who's. LIKE six
(01:09:28):
eight sixty nine i don't have a good. READ on
his offense yet i just. Don't because it's not good he's.
Speaker 2 (01:09:37):
Kind of actually, remarkably fluid on the ball but there's
just no, jumper of which, to speak which is yeah
just throw and by the way this is when you
would need him throw Him Out There During the carl's karl.
Speaker 1 (01:09:47):
Anthony towns at center minutes that's perfect for someone. With
those types. Of, limitations so that's interesting, yeah it's a
small quibble but this stuff starts.
Speaker 2 (01:09:55):
To add up and matter you want to know what
you have now for them is different from if you're
looking at the heat or if you're looking at the
bulls where there's more equity investment d or was the?
Number Fifty one overall pick so i'm not trying to
fool myself into thinking.
Speaker 1 (01:10:07):
This is a future star.
Speaker 2 (01:10:08):
But he's on the roster, your wing depth Isn't Superb
Especially without, ogi an andoby, LET'S see let's and look
i haven't they Haven't played a, game since ojiannaobi was
like is gonna be, re evaluated in two weeks so
they've yet to kind of map. Out Their Rotation from there,
maybe mike brown surprises me but so.
Speaker 1 (01:10:26):
FAR he, is not well i mean, they're not even
playing gapus, so you know it's well there's a reason
they're not playing him because.
Speaker 2 (01:10:33):
He is, borderline, unplayable defensively you mean Uh he started
to hit i'll say some threes because it feels like
he's had a couple one of one games or. WHATEVER
it is right right i don't know if he came
in a camp out.
Speaker 1 (01:10:47):
Of shape or if he was dealing. With some type
of injury.
Speaker 2 (01:10:50):
That is looking like a pretty big Bust Of a signing.
Speaker 1 (01:10:53):
BY new YORK right, now, I still i. Mean yeah,
i hear you the idea.
Speaker 2 (01:10:59):
The idea of him him i'm not out, on the
idea of him but he has not done anything. To
Work Like they've had karl anthony towns was apparently playing through,
a GRADE to quad strain which i don't think, you
Can physically play through so.
Speaker 1 (01:11:13):
I'm wondering what he was but he was banged. Up
To start the year mitchell.
Speaker 2 (01:11:17):
Robinson is being load managed there was the, GAME against
was it what i don't Know if, it was the
miami game but where he Was in foul trouble and
yabuselli still.
Speaker 1 (01:11:26):
Can't get on the, floor i'd probably.
Speaker 3 (01:11:30):
PLAYED regardless try by, fire i, know, it's bad but
like okay you're also, going for the second seed so.
Speaker 1 (01:11:36):
Like or the thirst, seed maybe it's.
Speaker 2 (01:11:39):
JUST yeah that's but you're, i guess to your, point you,
might as well get like try to give him longer
stretches to see if he.
Speaker 1 (01:11:46):
Works out, some of it. But yeah. That's he's been He's.
Speaker 2 (01:11:50):
Been not The Yoab buselli experience in new york has,
been not, Great So.
Speaker 1 (01:11:53):
Far Generally speaking new york and. Frenchman not. The Best fit.
Speaker 2 (01:12:00):
That's rude frankie lakeino. Would have been a star. They,
held on to him.
Speaker 3 (01:12:03):
Well They did give you, joekim noah seventy two million
and that worked.
Speaker 1 (01:12:06):
Out because he could rank.
Speaker 2 (01:12:07):
Because he said he could he offered to Do A
pull up on. Phil jackson's bicep or something you remember?
That Story, that Was funny oh.
Speaker 1 (01:12:13):
God moret do you?
Speaker 2 (01:12:16):
Have anything else to add are you ready to let
our listeners know where they can find you in all the.
Speaker 1 (01:12:19):
Great, work, That you do yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:12:20):
NO i'm looking through this i don't think there are
a LOT of other players that i think aren't necessary.
To TOUCH on quite yet Like I want to see
jason richison get A few more minutes in orlando because
he's only played. Thirty, Minutes total this year.
Speaker 2 (01:12:36):
No apenda is kind. Of a, guy There too. He's
big so i've been He moves the ball to i've been. A,
Little pressed. To him well tyre's proctor the efficiency, doesn't
line up with it, and he fouls a bunch but
he's been able to eat up some minutes and has
some Nice. On ball patients in cleveland that would be someone,
that'd be a nice find just given where.
Speaker 1 (01:12:56):
They ended up getting him? Was he like fifty? Five what?
Was he? Nine for? You, all, Right, it's close. Yep,
YEP no.
Speaker 3 (01:13:03):
You're right no i think the rest of the rookies
that we need to talk about. Come in the second Episode.
Speaker 2 (01:13:10):
Are you surprised that jase maybe isn't getting a Little
more playing time in orlando Given That it's not like
tias jones has been playing?
Speaker 1 (01:13:17):
A ton of minutes There you mean My six man
with the year? Pick is not doing great In.
Speaker 2 (01:13:24):
What so you Picked jase Richardson? SIX ty jones, TY
jones i, was like i was like can't Win More
For most improved?
Speaker 1 (01:13:31):
Player, Jace richardson, For, six no.
Speaker 3 (01:13:32):
I'm really look this has been. A bad year for
me this has been a. Really bad year for ME
the only thing that I like Is Last season i HAD,
trenton watford, as my mip and. LIKE now finally this
year i look a, little smart on that one at.
Least Just A little smart but i'm i'm completely flaming
Out On, this one with tias jones especially one?
Speaker 1 (01:13:55):
Point four points? Per?
Speaker 3 (01:13:57):
Game what, the hell no but, YES to answer your
question i, am a little surprised That, given The struggles
of tias that jase. Hasn't been given a shot, like coming,
into the league you know he was pretty much just a,
spot up three point shooter someone who doesn't, take away
possessions at all who can just sort of implement himself.
In an off Ball capacity what is?
Speaker 2 (01:14:19):
It?
Speaker 1 (01:14:19):
Orlando, NEEDS more of? Oh? Gee, I wonder what so
Yeah i've been, a little.
Speaker 2 (01:14:24):
He is small but, they when they're healthy, anyway even
when they're not they have the size to and he's
again the, efficiency's not there right Now But, watching him
in summer league he knows how to get off his
shots if he's in.
Speaker 1 (01:14:36):
A lane over the.
Speaker 2 (01:14:37):
TREES but, they Also Do, I Mean between Jayalen Suggs
desmond Bay And, anthony black and tias jones it's kind
of hard to cut, into that sort of. DYNAMIC but
he would be i really Liked Him coming out OF
summer league's not someone i know a, tome about before
then saying now are you.
Speaker 1 (01:14:53):
