Speaker 2 (00:33):
I'm Norm Murray. It's great to have you along today
on News Talk Saga nine sixty. I've been looking forward
to this day for a long time because there's a
lot happening this year. You know, it is the fiftieth
anniversary of Mississauga, and this is a big, big celebration
all year long, really, and there's one amazing event that's
(00:53):
coming up next Wednesday, that's October the thirtieth, and that's
at Hammerson Hall at the Living Arts Center in Mississauga, Wednesday,
October thirtie. If you don't want to miss this eight o'clock.
If you love music, really good music, If you love
the Mississauga Orchestra by the way, which is amazing in itself,
the Mississauga Symphony Orchestra as well as Beatles music, you
(01:15):
are in for a treat because your city, Mississauga fiftieth
anniversary celebration, the Beatles Spectacular Tribute Concert is happening on
Wednesday night, featuring Classical Mystery Tour and the Mississauga Symphony
Orchestra presented by the Rotary Club of Mississauga, who in
(01:35):
their own right, by the way, are celebrating seventy years
this year. And look at this, We've got Lynn Lewis
joining us. She's the past president, one of the past
presidents of the Rotary Club of Mississauga. Hey, Lynn, how
are you today?
Speaker 3 (01:48):
I'm great, Thank you, glad to be here.
Speaker 2 (01:51):
Thanks so much for joining us in congratulations on the
seventieth anniversary of the Rotary Club. First of all, you
folks do great work. Can you tell us a little
bit about the Rotary Club first of all before we
get into the big show next week.
Speaker 3 (02:06):
Sure you know, we're a group that basically works within
the community in Mississauga. I'm helping out people and places
that are in need. We run a Rotary Ribfest every
year and a Rotary Lobsterfest and where the Moneys we're based,
and that goes right back into the community to help
(02:26):
those in need.
Speaker 2 (02:28):
Absolutely amazing. And you guys have set up a fantastic
website for this event. Go to www dot your city
Mississauga fiftieth So that's your city, Mississauga five zero t
h dot com. Nice, easy to navigate lots of great
pictures and information for you, but I don't want to
(02:48):
steal your thunder here. So we've got you on the
air with us, and I'm really glad that we've done this.
The Beatles Spectacular Tribute concert next week. This sounds like
a lot of fun, Lynn, tell us a little bit
about it.
Speaker 3 (03:01):
Sure you know what makes this one different. It's not
just your ordinary Beatles band, but it is a band
that has been in together for at least the last
twenty years. They did performances on Broadway in New York,
and they are the one of the few bands that
(03:21):
actually plays with symphonies. This group has played out sold
out concerts at the Sydney Opera House, and it's performed
with some of the America's most prestigious orchestras, including Cleveland Orchestra,
Boston Pops, Philadelphia Orchestra, San Francisco Symphony, and many more.
So they're more than just a Beatles band. And if
(03:44):
you've never heard the Beatles live this, you would feel
like you're right at a Beatles show. From the way
they sing and the way they dress. They makes you
feel like you're right at a Beatles concerts unbelievable.
Speaker 2 (03:59):
Yeah, I don't know how many people are still around
who saw the Beatles live when they were in Toronto.
I think I was back in the sixties. Obviously was
back in the sixties. But anyway, Yeah, that's right. It's very,
very exciting. This is really a top notch performing group.
Four musicians in the Classical Mystery Tour. That's the name
of their group, right, the four musicians, And they look
(04:21):
and sound just like the Beatles. Actually they look even
like the Beatles. But as you just pointed out, this
is so much more than just a rock concert. When
you bring in the incredible Mississauga Symphony Orchestra, who I
say are world class instrumentalists themselves, you put them together
in this kind of a forum, it's a I think
(04:42):
it's a great mixture. It's going to be a really,
really fun, fun time. And this is all part of
the big fiftieth anniversary this year, right, correct, So I
understand is the mayor going to be there too?
Speaker 3 (04:55):
Absolutely, we have the mayor and many of the city
councilors will be joining us for this event.
Speaker 2 (05:01):
Very nice and now they're not going to be having
some sort of a prolonged council meeting up on stage though,
that'll borius to tears, you.
Speaker 3 (05:07):
Know that, right, Okay, Yeah, I know, no city council meeting.
Speaker 2 (05:11):
Okay, so we'll put them on a timer. I'm just kidding,
you know. Politicians are known to talk for a while,
that's all. We love them though. That's okay. So concert tickets,
by the way, for those interested, you can go to
Ticketmaster dot ca A. There's a couple of different ways
to get tickets Ticketmaster dot c A. You can go
straight to the website that we just mentioned, that's your city,
(05:35):
Mississauga fiftieth dot com and there's a link that takes
you to Ticketmaster to order tickets, or the tickets are
available at the box office at the same time. And
tickets start at forty seven dollars plus tax and transaction
fees and go up from there, of course, depending on
where you're seated. But there's no bad seat, I would imagine.
(05:56):
Have you seen any of this before or is this
going to be new for Youtuo Lynn?
Speaker 3 (06:01):
Oh no, I've seen them in Ottawa about a months
ago and they got two standing renovations and absolutely outstanding reviews.
Speaker 2 (06:11):
Yeah, and this is a two hour show. Is that right.
Speaker 3 (06:14):
It's a two hour show. And I just wanted to
mention too that all the proceeds from this concert is
going to the new twenty one story state of the
art hospital that's being built in the city of Mississauga
to fund leading edge life saving equipment that we'll go
into the new hospital.
Speaker 2 (06:34):
Absolutely really important. Of course, net proceeds earned from the
your city's fiftieth anniversary celebration given to Trillium Health Partners
to purchase, as you just pointed out, leading edge life
saving equipment for the new twenty one story Mississauga Hospital.
We've been talking about that on the radio station for
a little while now. An absolute beacon of healthcare innovation.
(06:58):
And this is going to be very, very exciting and
a lot of people are going to get a lot
of money out of this, of course, and it is
well needed, and you folks putting this all together at
the Rotary Club of Mississauga well deserved too. How fun
sounds like it's going to be a great time. So
do you know how many tickets there are? Like, I'm
not familiar with the seating arrangement at Hammerson Hall, how
(07:21):
many they hold?
Speaker 3 (07:22):
Oh, they have thirteen hundred seats and it's divided into
three sections and the main level, which is called the
Orchestra level, which is the more expensive one, and then
you go up one level to the dress circle and
then up a level to the top balcony where you
can get lower price seats.
Speaker 2 (07:42):
Sounds like fun. Whose idea was this, lind Did you
and your folks over at the Rotary Club sit around
and go, Okay, what are we going to do here?
Let's come up with an idea?
Speaker 3 (07:51):
No discuss this idea from seeing it when I was
in Australia earlier this year, and I thought, wouldn't it
be great to bring this back to the city of Mississauga, bring.
Speaker 2 (08:01):
It back to literally the opposite end of the world
from where you were. Oh, that sounds so fun. That's great.
And the Rotary Club of Mississauga celebrating seventy years this year. Also,
do you guys have anything going on also specific to
the Rotary Club besides this celebration. I mean, I'm sure
(08:22):
it's been a big year for you.
Speaker 3 (08:24):
Well. Another good thing that we're doing is we're actually
publishing your City Mississauga fiftieth anniversary magazine. It's a commemorative issue.
This will be coming out in the month of November
and it will be free. You'll find it in libraries
and community centers, places where you go to shop. You'll
(08:45):
see it in the store, So be sure to pick
one up as it's going to be a great magazine
coming out. Another initiative by the Rotary Club in Mississauga
that the helper and the help with tourist in Mississauga
and the city in Mississauga.
Speaker 2 (08:58):
Oh certainly love that idea. Oh, we'll be watching for that.
So that's coming out next month then, all part of
the seventieth anniversary of the Rotary Club of Mississauga and
of course the fiftieth anniversary of Mississauga. So the Rotary
Club was around twenty years before even Mississauga was declared
the city. I guess then, is.
Speaker 3 (09:17):
That well correct? It started out in Cooksville.
Speaker 2 (09:20):
Okay, right? Yeah? And seventy years ago, is a fair?
Do we have any member original members still any?
Speaker 3 (09:30):
Unfortunately not. Our last original member passed away last year.
Speaker 2 (09:34):
Oh dear wow. But what an amazing history the club
has had and a tremendous number of people who have
gone through and also the good you have done for
the community. Oh my goodness. So for seventy years, I
would imagine millions and millions of dollars for various charities
and fundraisers and organizations in the city have benefited from
(09:55):
the Rotary Club and you, as a past president of
the Rotary Club too. Two times you're telling me, I
know that we have you to thank for much of that.
So we look forward to next Wednesday, October the thirtieth.
That's what we're talking about, primarily at the Living Arts Center,
Hammerson Hall and Mississauga next Wednesday night. It is going
to be an incredible show. It's the Your City Mississauga
(10:18):
fiftieth Anniversary Celebration Beatles Spectacular Tribute concert featuring classical Mystery
Tour and the Mississauga Symphony Orchestra, presented by the Rotary
Club of Mississauga celebrating seventy years themselves. Go to Your
City Mississauga fiftieth dot com for more information there and
(10:40):
like we were saying, go to ticketmaster dot ca a
pick up tickets at the box office at the Living
Arts Center and I'm going to head out there Wednesday.
Make sure you stop buy and say hello to myself
and or certainly more importantly, say hello to the mayor.
Say hello hello to Lynn and everybody else with the
Rotary Club too, anything else you want to make sure
we mentioned here in out to everybody before next Wednesday night.
Speaker 3 (11:02):
I know. We just look forward to seeing as many
people from the city of Mississauga come out and enjoy
the concert.
Speaker 2 (11:10):
Yeah, it's going to be a great time, I think,
and I look forward to I haven't met the mayor
yet too, so I look forward to seeing her and
chatting it up with the counselors also. And everybody is
really putting their support behind this of course, is a
great event, and most importantly, the net proceeds earned from
the your city's fiftieth anniversary celebration next Wednesday night will
(11:32):
be given to the Trillium Health Partners to purchase leading
edge life saving equipment for the new twenty one story
Mississauga Hospital, which is a beacon of healthcare innovation. You
can join us and join everybody in this groundbreaking endeavor
to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of Mississauga and absolutely uplift
our community's health standards. This Lynn is a good news story.
(11:55):
We need more of this these days, maybe than ever before,
as you know too, so I'm so happy to have
you here doing this. Thank you so much for spending time,
and best of luck at the Rotary Club and with
the big show next Wednesday.
Speaker 3 (12:10):
Thank you and look forward to seeing you. Norm.
Speaker 2 (12:12):
I will be there absolutely. I love the Beatles. Are
you kidding me?
Speaker 3 (12:15):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (12:15):
I can't wait. I'm Norm Murray. This is News Talk
SAGA nine sixty. We will be back right after this.
