Speaker 2 (00:15):
I'm Nora Murray. You're listening to News Talk Saga nine sixty.
It's great to have you along today, and I'm really
excited because a big weekend is in store that I
look forward to every single year. It's the head for
the Hills Craft Beverage Festival. Used to be called the
Beer Festival, but now you know, they've expanded on the
beverages that they offer, so they make it a little
(00:35):
bit more friendly for everybody. Beverages, food, entertainment. You can
find out all the information you need about all that,
even bus schedules and such at Headfofthehills dot c A.
There's going to be a couple of thousand people there.
There always is, and I'm going to be on stage.
I'm going to be mceing once again. It's my great
honor since twenty fifteen to be m seing and introducing
(00:58):
bands and reading the Riot Act for the people who
need to know the rules and stuff don't or there's
not a lot of rules. We always have a lot
of fun anyways, it is a nineteen plus event Headfothehills,
dot C. But you know what, we're very, very lucky
today because we have one of the performers joining me.
Samantha Ava is joining us. She is a rock country
(01:18):
Canadian artist. You know and love her if you've ever
tuned in to hear her music all over the place.
Of course, she is traveling a lot, spreading the good
news about her music, and she absolutely connects with her audience.
She loves performing live, relating to people through her own
lived experience, bringing a really electric, raw show, lots of energy,
(01:41):
it'll leave you wanting more. And she's got a ton
of music out too, including nine fantastic singles, including Secret
and one of them at least one of them anyways.
The first official release, seventeen, hit number one on many
indie charts, including internationally, standing strong for several weeks, so
I'm really excited she's gonna be a part of the
(02:01):
bill tomorrow Saturday afternoon at the head for the Hills
Craft Beverage Festival. Hello Samantha Ava, thanks for being here today.
Speaker 1 (02:09):
Hey how's it going? Thank you for having.
Speaker 2 (02:11):
Me, Absolute pleasure, great to have you here. Always love
speaking to Canadian talent, especially really good Canadian talent.
Speaker 1 (02:19):
Also, yeah, pleasure.
Speaker 2 (02:22):
So how do you thank you? How do you feel
about this big festival we got going on tomorrow.
Speaker 1 (02:27):
I'm actually really excited. I've been counting down for the
Georgetown Beer Fest for a while. We locked it in
Gosh last year, so it's been kind of a countdown
for us. But yeah, we are very excited. I love
Georgetown so awesome.
Speaker 2 (02:41):
You can find Samantha Ava on Instagram at Samantha Ava Music,
and you can also find her on Facebook at Samantha
for Ava Music. Go have a look there, and also
make sure you go to wherever you download your music,
Amazon Music, Spotify, look for the new single Seek and
all of our other music and download it today. Check
(03:04):
it out for yourself. Tell us a little bit about
yourself though, Samantha. For those who are not familiar with you,
I know that you're hauled them and based and proudly Canadian.
How did you end up deciding for yourself? You know what,
this guitar playing, I think I'm going to turn it
into a career. How'd that happen?
Speaker 1 (03:19):
You know? It's funny, I don't even know it just well, no,
it just became more and more consuming of my life
and I became you get addicted. I don't know, I
really delved into my writing. Writing is kind of what
sucked me into it becoming a full time gig. So
(03:42):
I was very much. I sang and played guitar most
of my life. I sang all my life and play
guitar from a very young age. And later on in life,
I got into my writing more and I started piecing
you know, poetry and lyrics and stuff together with my
guitar and vocal playing, and that was kind of that's
(04:04):
what got me going. I got really addicted to writing,
and it's actually probably one of my most favorite things
to do in the whole process of being a musician
and songwriter now. So yeah, it's a lot of fun.
My favorite part of production is getting into that writing.
Speaker 2 (04:19):
How would you describe your writing? How would you describe
your music? I said, rock country Canadian artist. How would
you describe it though? What's the feeling you put into
your music?
Speaker 1 (04:30):
Oh? Like, I don't definitely. When I go to write,
I just kind of close my eyes and come up
with a cool little melody on my guitar, or like
a really strong lyrical like line to start a song,
and then it kind of just opens itself up. So
I don't go like, oh, I want to do this genre,
but it always ends up like a rock country. I
(04:52):
even get a bit of a like alternative Borckrunge vibe
to it, which is really cool.
Speaker 2 (04:56):
So that sounds amazing, and yeah, thank you. You start with
the music first, then the lyrics, is that what you're saying?
Speaker 1 (05:04):
Usually unless I have a really strong lyrical like a
first line, and then that might give me the vibe
of what kind of melodic feeling I'm going with, if
it's going to be more upbeat or slower or you know,
indie what I'm doing with it. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (05:22):
Now, I know you've worked with Nashville based exceptional producer
Shannon MacArthur. Are there any other people you've worked with
you want to talk about or mention some of the
things you've been doing over the years.
Speaker 1 (05:33):
Oh, my gosh. Yeah. I have had the pleasure of
meeting my dream producer Charles Austin. He's a songwriter and
fantastic producer down in Tennessee. And I've also wrote a
lot with Michael Siletta and Charles. They wrote Secret with me,
and it was such a banger of a song. So yeah,
(05:55):
that song has been doing great, and I've written a
few others with Mike and we actually wrote I was
just down there in August and I pretty much came
home with my album. I wrote with a friend, Kipper
Lynnville too. He had a hand in the album. And
there's gosh a bunch of people that I need to
(06:16):
shut out to. So yeah, it was a pleasure to
write with everybody, and always is. But yeah, it's going
to be coming out next spring, the album.
Speaker 2 (06:27):
So what do you have a name for it?
Speaker 1 (06:30):
You know? I do?
Speaker 2 (06:33):
I Are you ready to talk about it yet?
Speaker 1 (06:36):
I don't know. Maybe keep that under my hat's a
little longer.
Speaker 2 (06:40):
Okay, all right, we'll watch for that. Samantha. We're talking
to Samantha Avas. She's going to be joining us at
the Heads of the Hills Craft Beverage Festival, happening tomorrow,
and that's at the Trafalgar Park in Georgetown, you know,
the big grounds. They've been doing it for ten years now,
and I've been very fortunate to be MC, which is
really nothing. I just go up there and introduce the bands.
I mean, people like Samantha do all the hard work,
(07:03):
and there's gonna be a lot of fun, a lot
of food trucks and other activities and games going on.
It's a nineteen plus event. There's free bus trips back
and forth to town anyway. Go to Headfothehills dot Ca
for all the information on that. And remember, all the
money is going to charity, and there's a number of great,
very worthy charities which we'll be talking about a little
(07:25):
bit later on, that have been benefiting close to six
hundred thousand dollars over the years from this great event.
But it's because of people like Samantha Ava who perform
for us and put on a great show that makes
it so enjoyable. Tell us about your stage show. I mean,
who's your band? Who you bringing with you?
Speaker 1 (07:44):
Oh? So, I actually have brand new drummer Tom Diggas,
he'll be he'll be with us. And I also have
a my Basis who's been with me for a while
now gosh six seven years, Louis Louiroy. And then we
have Adam I don't think I pronounced his name right,
(08:05):
Bereford Bereford on lead guitar. He's fantastic. So yes, it's
going to be a great, great show and I can't wait.
I can't wait too. I bring lots of energy. We
got a really cool groove to our sound, so I
think people really enjoy us.
Speaker 2 (08:21):
Yeah, awesome. Tell us about a new single, secret that
we can get on Spotify or Amazon Music. Secret. Tell
us about writing that. Where did that come from?
Speaker 1 (08:31):
Ah? It's funny because I actually walked into the writer's
room with Charles and Mike and I was like, I
want to do something different. I always bring something different
to the tuble it feels then like yeah, the typical, right,
And I was like, guys, what do you think about this?
And I said like, let's write about an affair, like
a love affair, and we all just like delve right
(08:54):
into it. And they were like, this is awesome. And
I don't know, I fall in love with this song
and it's it's uh, it's fun to be proud of it.
It's really turned out to be a beautiful production.
Speaker 2 (09:04):
So, oh excellent. I know you've been traveling a lot,
as you told me just before we started recording here.
Uh so you go back and forth to Nashville quite
a bit, is that right?
Speaker 1 (09:16):
Yes? Yeah, I absolutely love it. It's my home away from home.
Speaker 2 (09:19):
So do you perform down there? Is that? What is
that the reason you go there? Mostly for performing?
Speaker 1 (09:24):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (09:24):
And I guess producing also, right.
Speaker 1 (09:26):
Yeah, Well we do a lot of our producing via tech,
like on computer and like remote. But yeah, I just
did God. I played at Live Oak twice down there,
and I played the Commodore Grill twice. I played Broadway
on the Margueritaville my last show there, so and I
(09:49):
wrote God, I did five co writes in my last trip.
It's kind of crazy, but yeah, and they like three
of the songs are going on the album. And then
I did some writing on my own down there towards
the album. So yeah, it's been every time I go down,
I make sure I hammer shows and co writes and
any any production work I can do, I will, but
(10:13):
I lock it in. But yeah, I know it's it's
I'm back in December, so it just keeps. It's a
gift that keeps giving.
Speaker 2 (10:20):
It really is the mecca for what you do there,
isn't it in Nashville? Right?
Speaker 3 (10:25):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (10:25):
Like I absolutely need like I feel like completely at
home there. It's uh and it it feels the fire
I should say, yeah for me, I come home and
I've got all this new juice, you know. So yeah,
So are you going to be perform.
Speaker 2 (10:43):
You're going to be performing anywhere else locally that we
can mention here. Any plugs you want to bring up?
I know we're at head for the Hills Craft Beverage
Festival tomorrow Saturday afternoon. Any other plans for like tours
and such coming up or what's going on?
Speaker 1 (10:57):
Oh gosh, if you really love our set, feel free
to come out and watch us at Witchcraft that night.
We're going to be in Guelf.
Speaker 2 (11:03):
That nightming again the same night.
Speaker 1 (11:07):
Yes, we have a double hitterer. Yeah. And then yes,
and then I will be actually doing the opening ceremonies
at the ride for Dad for to support the prostate
cancer research.
Speaker 3 (11:22):
Yes, I do that.
Speaker 1 (11:23):
It holds a special place in my heart. So I
do that every year. Yeah, for the Southern Cruisers. They
host that. My dad was a member for twenty five
plus years and he's in heaven now and and we
support that every year. So and but my biggest show
coming up is going to be at Central Niagara and
(11:44):
Nigrina Lake. I'm I'm opening for the Fems of Rock
and we have some really big news coming up with
them too, So the spring is going to be absolutely explosive.
I can't wait.
Speaker 2 (11:58):
This is so exciting. I mean moving fast, I mean
the adrenaline must be just flowing for you and the
family and your band and everything right now, right, You're
a busy.
Speaker 1 (12:08):
Schedule, it is, it is, and the family gets to
tag along for the ride, so it's a lot of fun.
Speaker 2 (12:14):
