Welcome back to my channel everyone, This little one we
think we're gonna call her WoT. I am so disproportionately
excited because this is the first time I've had I'm
the only female in my house until now, until now,
and I was like, if we're going to get a cat,
I'm sorry about the light behind me. This the nightmare
and you have to film it now because I need

to take certain someone for her first wellness check at
the later. So I'm filming it now worst possible time
because the son is streaming. It's given me like this
weird halo effects. But I'm so excited because I have
a female friend in the house bringing female energy. Yes,
so I know what I'm going to be doing this weekend.

You know, I'm in that stage where you have like
a newborn human, dog, cat, any animal insert any mammal,
maybe not a mammal. I've never had, not a reptile
or anything that wasn't a mammal, and you're just staring
at it like this. That bonding stage, my favorite bit,
my favorite bit. So I know what I'm going to

be doing this weekend. But I wanted to talk to
you about something that is kind of poignant for me
at the moment. I've not been well. I've had like
this really weird like head cold for the past two
or three weeks. I've just not been able to shake it.
I think I've been getting better, and then I feel
really tired again. Anyway, And it's sort of when I
(01:25):
get ill, I get so like I'm not I'm saying
this like this is unique to me. It's not. But
when I get ill, I get so frustrated because I
can't do all the things that I want to do.
And then I get down, and then I just feel
really low. And then when I feel low, you know,
you know, don't you When you feel low, it's just
hard just to get going, and everything just seems to
grind to a halt. So I want to talk to

you stay about what to do and how to help
get yourself going again. If you've had a housework hiatus,
if for some reason the housework hasn't been as regular
as you would like it to be. And it's so funny,
it's like you guys sensed it because you were talking you.
I'd had a couple of days where I did ask
(02:11):
me questions on Instagram, and so many people are like, yeah,
but what do you do if you miss a day?
Or what do you do fors like do you know
someone in my house? Do you have cameras? So I
missed a few days here and there. Some days I
didn't miss completely, some days I just did the bare
minimum other days And I'm going to get around to
this in a minute. I just did like nice housework

just to kind of get me back into the groove
kind of thing. Can be really difficult to get back in,
like to hook back in. And whenever I'm speaking to someone,
like when we're doing the teen Team Tom Transformations, we've
got another one coming out. We've seen by the way,
to make you keep an eye out for that when
I'm talking to people, cause a bit like when you
were at school and you used to like skipping. So
I'm so sorry about that. I'm going to try and
keep my head in front of the window and you're

like you're doing the skipping and like you've got one
person on the end of a rope and like you're
like trying to get your rhythm and jump in. It's
kind of a bit like that. You've like it feels
like you've lost your rhythm how to regain that rhythm.
So I'm going to talk you through what I did
in the hope that it will kind of give you
a little bit of inspiration, make you think, yeah, okay,
I'm going to try that. Because the worst possible thing,
and I know this, especially if you've not been well,

the worst possible thing for you to do is to
like laune into a whole day of cleaning, because if
you're not being well, you're still recovering, and also you're
trying to collect, you're out of the habit, so you're
not kind of like really feeling it anyway, so your
heart won't be fully in it. So it's going to
feel like a big chore and it's just going to
feel like a big thing that will be difficult to start.
(03:38):
And that is the key if you've had a break
from housework. And I also find this applies to exercise
as well. The longer you leave it before you pick
it up again, the harder it is to pick it
up again. It just sort of lapses. The longer you
let it slide, the harder it is to sort of
get it back on course. So the trick here is
(03:59):
to start small, seriously small, even teeny tiny, something like
wiping down your countertops, putting away one load of laundry,
even putting one load of laundry on. Because if you're
looking at her to do this that like resembles a novel,
it can be hard to know where to start. So
(04:20):
just pick one simple thing, one simple thing that's going
to give you a big win. So it might be
emptying the dishwasher and reloading all of the dishes that
have accumulated over on the kitchen counters. Okay, and then
all of a sudden you've got dishwasher wearing away and
you've got clean kitchen counters. It's a win win, and
(04:42):
it might have taken you five or ten minutes. So
just think of something small, super small. But my top
tip is to find it. That job in one of
the engine rooms of your house. So don't start in
the spare room because that might not be a room
that you frequent very often. And start in a room. Sorry,
my phone's beeping. It's not professional, is it. Everything's pinging
(05:05):
and popping. Don't disturb ill. Oh yeah, So don't pick
a room you're not in very often. You need to
pick one of the engine rooms. So I like to
think of the engine rooms as kitchen or living room,
the rooms that you're in the most. You might think,
Oh no, for me, it's definitely the bathroom. Gem Like,
one of the engine rooms of our home is a bathroom.
We've only got one bathroom between how so many people
that need bathroom needs to be on point. So pick
(05:26):
a small job that's going to give you a big
win in an engine room for your home and start there. Now.
I don't normally advocate buying stuff for the sake of
buying it, but if you are the sort of person
that is going to be motivated by a new cleaning spray,
a new laundry detergent, something right that is going to
(05:47):
make you go a little fristle of excitement. Okay, I
know we're talking about the house, but we've got to
get our wins somewhere. We've got to cling onto anything
that's positive. Take yourself to the shops or something to
be delivered in right, get yourself down to BMM, give
yourself a budget, right, and you might be like, I
am going in and I'm gonna buy this cleaning product.
(06:11):
I did that this week. I'm not gonna lie I
did that. This week. I ordered this cleaning product that
people have been going on about for age. I'm not
gonna tell you which one. I know you're gonna ask me.
Go on. Then it's perdian Fig. I've never tried it before.
I don't know why the moderators and the Team Tom
team always bang on about perdian Fig and like, oh
my gosh, it smells amazing to sit there and I'm like, right,
(06:32):
I need, I need, I need to get back to
it now. You know, I need to claw in as
much as much help as I can get. I'm going
to give myself a little bit of for a little
bit of motivation by giving myself a little bit of
excitement about what I'm going to be cleaning with your
worked work to treat. And I am not mad about it.
So if there's something that you can do just to
give you that little bit of spark, because remember we
(06:55):
talk all the time, don't we about motivation being that spark,
the flame that lights the action. It's like, right, we're
going to do this, and it spurs you into getting going.
But motivation does this and sometimes it can just go.
You can just flatline and leave completely right. It's momentum
(07:17):
that is the thing that is going to keep you
showing up consistently. And when you're coming out of a
housework hiatus, if you've had a slump, then that momentum
has just gone. So we need that motivation to start
the engine again, just to get that momentum pairring. And
it could be that you're like, right, okay, I've got
(07:39):
I've got my motivation. I haven't got momentum yet. Again,
small small, small, small small. It could be that you
just do fifteen minutes a day for a week, sticking
with the priority jobs. It could be And this is
what I did over the last few days. I split
my thirteen minutes into three ten minute chunks. They didn't
seem as overwhelming. I wasn't like, oh God, And it's

like I have like when I go through these housework
hiatus slumps, I have massive imposters in their own because
I have to show up and produce content, like whether
it's on the telly or wherever, like in interviews, like
I am this paragon of house perfection. I'm not nobody
is the whole reason why I invented Tom in the
(08:23):
first place was to stop me from overcleaning, and there
will be days when I will just not be feeling
it at all. So I like have this double guilt.
Only am I not doing the housework? But also, ah,
this is also my job, so I have to get
back into the swing of things really really quickly. So
splitting it into three ten minute chunks helps me massively.
(08:43):
Because I work from home. It's great. I love it
because I can do things like this. I've got my
animals around me, so I sort of remind myself. I
do like this grassitude thing, right, what am I grateful for? Right?
And grateful for this, this, this and this. Okay, great,
it helps me to switch my mood and I'm like,
right for ten minutes then because I'm grateful. But I'm
able to work from home because I'm grateful for x
(09:05):
Y then and can take my dogs, you'll walk on
the fields. I'm going to do ten minutes, and then
I'm going to do something I'm grateful for, taking the
dogs for a walk on the field, playing with waffles.
So it's about sort of like a little bit of
a carrot ten minutes treat, whether it's a cup of
tea coffee, sit down, five minutes, scroll on TikTok. Limit
(09:27):
that scrolling though, and then just slowly build it up.
And also, of course music and timers. Music and timers,
So set your timer for ten minutes. You'll be surprised
at how much you can actually get done in ten
minutes if you focus. And another thing that I like
to do is get my rubber gloves on. If I
get my rubber gloves on, it means that I'm not distracted.
(09:48):
It makes it so much harder to pick up my
phone and scroll Whilst I'm trying to get back into
that habit. Your brain might not be clicking and you
maybe start to drift off and then you look down
and go, oh, rubber gloves, housework. I'm doing it for
ten minutes. So set your timer, focus, really, really be
strict of yourself for that amount of time that you
set your tim before. And also music. Music has the
power to uplift us, make us feel melancholy, all sorts
(10:11):
of get some uplifting music on, even if like you
have to train your brain. When I was writing my books,
I had this concentration playlist that is actually still on
my Spotify. Scroll down. It's all the way down at bottom.
It's like an hour, and I trained my brain to
whenever it heard the first bars, I think it's Forest
Gump or something, the first couple of bars of like
(10:33):
the Forest Gump theme tune. Now I still play it
now if I have to do something like admin or
accounts or something, I'm like, oh my god, tick it on,
because I train my brain. When I hear it, I'm like,
I'm oh, I know I'm doing I'm in So it
could be that you're like, right, I'm going to train
my brain to react to this housework playlist that I'm
going to curate. It's thirty minutes long, and I know
(10:55):
that when it comes on, I'm just going to power
through until it's all done. Pick your favorite songs, high
ancient songs, songs that are going to get you moving.
And of course if you are in a houseworks or
you are just really needing a little bit of that
bit of motivation. There are so many guided sessions over
on tom Rocks. There are complete house resets on there.
(11:17):
There's like a seventy five minute house reset on there.
There's like a thirty minute house reset on there. Recently,
a one hour Beat the Clock Power hour went live,
where you can basically do whatever you need, whether it's
an hour's de clutter, an hour just going through the
whole house, and we would just bust through and hour's
(11:37):
worth of productivity. I am literally one guided clean away,
So don't forget that that is always there if you
need it. If you've never tried a Tom Rocks guiding session,
oh you are going to love them, right, She's okay,
it's nerve rucking and it's nerve rucking. Yeah. If you've
never tried them again, go go and have a lot.

Initially they might feel like a little bit of a
weird concept, you know, you tell me this all the time,
gem and it felt like really weird. But now game changer,
so go and check them out. We get so much
done in those sessions, and don't forget. Just as like
I'm saying, start small, like small, small increments of productivity.
Break it down, break it down room by room. It

can be really overwhelming thinking of a whole house, so
just do one room at a time, set your timer,
say right, I'm going to do ten minutes in the kitchen,
I'm going to do ten minutes in the living room
and think of it like an onion, so you have
the outer layer of onion, like those priority jobs, those
visual things that you're like, what every time I walk in,
I see laundry, I see dishes, well, and it's freaking
(12:41):
me out. Start there, pick you pick your one room,
and then work down in layers until you've completed the
time that you've allotted yourself. So you start with the priorities,
and then you move down to the next layer, and
then the next layer and the next layer. It's going
to keep you effiicient. It's going to give you great
results for the amount of time that you're working in.
Don't start polishing the silver, don't start alphabetizing your bookcase.
(13:04):
You've got to be really ruthless and stick and start
with those priority jobs first. And also forgive yourself for
the hiatus. Right, I can honestly say, in all the
years that I've been doing this, where people say it,
don't really lazy, I've just been. Really You're not lazy,
you tired. You probably just tired. Give yourself a break, Like,
(13:25):
don't stop beats, stop beats up about it. So what
you've had a break, right, you're back on it now,
the very fat the very fact that you're thinking about
getting back on it maas you're not lazy, right, So
just forgive yourself. It's fine. It literally happens to everybody.
And remember the power of productivity. I'm going to leave
you with this thought. Sometimes, like I said right at
(13:47):
the beginning, the power of just one thing, just one thing,
and sometimes that product, that productive moment, that productive thing
is like, oh, I forgot what this feeling was, like
a lovely little hit hit of do't mean you've ticked
off that to do list and you're off. Don't underestimate
the power of action to beat procrastination. I think I
(14:11):
might have just come up with a rib. If that
already exists, don't tell me, because I now feel like
a genius. I hope this in some way has helped.
