Speaker 1 (00:00):
Everybody, Welcome back, Happy September. Can you believe that it's
(00:02):
September already? We have just got back from Miami. When
I'm recording this, we flew back yesterday. I don't really
know what day is. Jet bag always kicks me in
the box. So if I sound a little bit tired,
it's because I am. But I am pushing through because
this is a week on tom This is probably one
of the biggest weeks. I want to make sure that
(00:24):
you're all caught up. You know what's coming, you know
which ways up, and all of the lovely things that
are going to be coming your way from Tom HQ.
So first things first, Organized Christmas starts this week. If
you have never tried Organized Christmas, maybe you've never even
heard about it before. And oh my goodness, it's a
thirteen week, bite sized plan that is going to take
you from basically the first week in September until the
(00:48):
first of December, so that by the time you get
to December, all of your Christmas prep is done and
you can sit back, relax and enjoy the festivities. And
I always like to say this is really cheesy, but
I'm going to take you from feeling stressed, if to
festive and other little bite sized jobs. So that is
available over on my Instagram. It's also available on the
(01:10):
app and if you've got it on the app then
you can leap jobs, add jobs in gip ahead and
do all of that good stuff. And if you have
upgraded to tom Rocks on the app, there are some
lovely bonus ambient sessions. They are exclusive to tom Rocks
so that I can sit with you and keep you company.
Well she do those little bits of Christmas task. It
can feel odd, can't it do? In Christmas prep? And
(01:31):
it's still a little bit hot outside, But believe me,
you are going to be so glad that you've done it.
So that's the first thing. Second thing on tom Rocks.
This week we have launched a lovely little mini back
to School series and there's a couple of sessions on
there that just for the kids, helping them to get
ready in the morning, things like getting dressed, brush your teeth,
that sort of stuff, so you don't have to worry
about it, just let us. I'll tell them what to do.
(01:53):
And there's also a really lovely get Ready for Tomorrow
for them as well, to make sure they've got everything
they need in their school bag. We do a little
bit for tidy up of their bedroom, that sort of thing.
And there is also an after the school run clean up.
If you come back from the school and you're like,
oh my god, it looks like an absolute whirlwind has
been through here, then I will talk you through a
guide clean for that. And if you've never tried tom
Rocks if then they are available either on Patreon just
(02:14):
search the Organized Mom or if you've got the app
and you want to have the cleaning app and you
want to have the whole tom suite, then just search
the Organized Mom on at the app store and tom
Rocks is available as a subscription within the app. So
that is what we have got in store for you
this speak, but we're not going to be talking about
that today. We are talking about how to get back
into the swing of things and how to streamline your
(02:35):
cleaning so that you can be as efficient as possible
so that you can actually get on with the more
important stuff, because that's what we're all about here, right,
So if you've been enjoying yourself over the summer, then
now is probably the time when you're like, right, the
kids are back at school, and I need to I
need to get back on the cleaning. I always like
to think of it almost like toggling on and toggling off.
So you might have toggled on holiday mode and you're
(02:57):
just ticking over doing the basics that sort of thing
whilst the kids were off, whilst you're busy in that
sort of thing, which is fine, right, you can't do
one hundred percent at the time, It's completely impossible, and
now you might want to like hoggle on normal services
now resumed, but it could be the one to pay
a little bit of catch up with that, in which
case we've got things that can help. The first thing
is you can do a house boot camp, which is
(03:20):
to get a messy house back up to speed, and
that boot camp can be as hardcore as you want
it to be. It is available in the book. It's
also available in the journal, the blue one, so the
first one, the second book, and it's also available on
the app, or you can also get it as a
free print out from the organizedmom dot com as well.
So if you're like, no, jem I need to just
like I need to start again, then the boot camp
(03:42):
is there if you need it. But if you like
it's not that bad, but I just need a little
bit of help just to get back into it. Then
here are my top tip. So the first thing is
to just recognize that you are starting afresh. You're not
starting all over again. It's just been a few weeks now,
I know because the kids have been home. You could
be like, yes, but you don't understand it's so bad.
(04:05):
But I just want you to remember that all of
the work that you have done before still counts. And
I also want you to remember how you were feeling
before the start of the summer holiday. So if you
were in a lovely routine, you can get back there.
You can get to that point, but you need to
give yourself a little bit of space and a little
bit of grace. So when you go back day one,
it's not going to be as you left it on
(04:26):
the final day. You're going to have to do a
little bit of work to get there. But our house
is always a work in progress. It's like living, isn't
it because people live in it, so it will always change.
Your situations are always going to be slightly different. So
just give yourself a little bit of time, a little
bit of patience, a little bit of grace and be like, right,
I'm going to do the very best with the time
and the energy that I have available to me today.
(04:47):
And the most important thing is that you come back
again tomorrow, And the second most important thing is that
you come back again the next day and the next
This is about consistency. You've got to be consistent here.
That is the best way to tackle that overwhelming feeling
of I've got to start again. If all of my
hard work has been undone, just say right, I can
(05:08):
get back to where I was, But I need to
be consistent here. No good just saying right, I'm going
to spend the whole of the weekend doing it, because
that is shortcut to overwhelm, and it's also a shortcut
to a rage clean, a good old a good old
fashioned rage clean, and no one wants to be doing them.
So give yourself a little bit of time. And if
you haven't got a cleaning routine yet, then I one
(05:29):
hundred percent recommend that you get yourself one. I'm biased.
I love Tom works for so many people, thousands of
people all over the world, but you're like, no, I
kind of want to I've been doing time. I want
to do my own whatever you're doing. If you have
a cleaning routine, this is the fastest way to not
only be overwhelmed, but also streamline and make the housework
as efficient as possible. Why because when you have a routine,
(05:53):
you know exactly where you start and where you finish,
and if, for whatever reason, you have a little bit
of a break, you know exactly where to pick it
up again. And this is key. You won't have that
moment of hush, where do I even start? It's literally there.
You know exactly where to start. It's going to help
reduce the mental load, and it's going to help to
save you time. One of the easiest ways to create
(06:15):
a cleaning routine is to work out how much time
you realistically have, and this is key. How much time
do you have every week to dedicate to the cleaning.
So that's where you start. That's your starting point. Now,
work out what rooms you need to clean on a
weekly basis, and then you divide the time that you
have buy the rooms that you want to clean every week,
(06:37):
and that gives you an amount of time for that room.
Next thing you do is you work out the weekly
jobs that you want to do in that room and
all of a sudden, you've got a structure and a
scaffold to the cleaning. And this is the beautiful reason
why Tom works because Tom also adds in a deep
clean of a room once a week, so you not
(07:00):
only just doing the surface jobs that need to get
done weekly, but Tom also bakes in a deeper clean
as well. So the longer you follow along, the cleaner
your house is going to get. So that is just
like get yourself into routine. It is going to save
you so much time and so much headspace. The second
most important thing that you do is you make sure
(07:21):
that you are editing your home regularly. You're decluttering essentially,
because why we know this, don't we You can't clean clutter.
If you are entering a cluttered room, not only does
it make you feel more overwhelmed, but it's also going
to be harder practically for you to clean because you've
got to either tidy it first, or you've got to
get rid of the clutter before you can even think
about cleaning. For you know it, you're exhausted and you're like, oh,
(07:43):
I'm going to give this up as a bad job.
So if you plan in time every week or every month,
just't just regularly. That's the key to do a D clutter.
You are making sure that the clutter doesn't build up,
and that when you do come to clean, you're actually cleaning.
And remember to pay attention to the mess magnets in
your home. We talk about it all the time, don't we.
Mess attracts mess, and it can be really cumulative, and
(08:05):
it can also be really sneaky. Think about your spare room,
for example, maybe you like want to think about it.
I shut the door on it because there is so
much junk in there and I can't invite anyone around
to stay. So if that is your situation at the moment,
it's probably because it is a classic mess magnet. Could
be that you had a D clutter one day you
chucked everything in there and you're like, I'll take it
to the child shop or I'll leave it there till
(08:26):
I list it on selling sites. Guess what, That day
never came? Did it? Never came? Did it? And then
maybe you threw a little bit more in there the
following week because that stuff's waiting there. Anyway, We tell ourselves,
we kid ourselves, I'll get round to that later, but
that day never comes, and over time that clutter just
attracts more clutter. It's magnetic until one day the cumulative
effect has worked its magic. You open up that door.
(08:48):
It's a Monica cupboard. So if you can identify your
mess magnets and make sure that those are decluttered regularly,
you are going double down on the efficiency of your
cleaning because when you do clean, you're going to be
actually cleaning and not decluttering. Another really easy way to
streamline your cleaning and to reduce the mental load is
to streamline your cleaning products. Seriously, this is so simple
(09:12):
but so becked. It if you have one hundred and
one cleaners, so before you've even started the cleaning, you've
got to choose which product you use, so you've got
a little bit of decision fatigue setting in and then
couple that with not having an actual cleaning routine and
over recipe for disaster. So if you can streamline your
cleaning products at the same time by having multi purpose cleaners. Look,
(09:32):
and I know that you're going to say, jem, which
ones you fave? My fave is washing up liquid or
dish soap. Essentially, it is one of the most versatile
cleaning products ever. It's amazing for grease. Essentially clean your
whole kitchen with it, not neat dilute it. But it's
great for dishes, grease, countertops, worktops, hobs, glass, shower screens.
(09:55):
The list is not endless, but pretty much endless. So
if you can find some really good effective multipurpose cleaning products,
maybe you're going to go all eco using white vinegar,
washing up liquid, or maybe like just prefer chop what cleaners.
If you can reduce the amount of cleaners that you have,
I mean, is it going to take up less space?
Only is it going to cost you less money. It's
also going to save you time because you're going to
(10:18):
have one less decision to make when you do start
to clean. And also, we know, don't we that if
you set a timer, it's going to help you focus.
It's going to beat the procrastination, and it's going to
stop the housework leading into your entire day and also
leaking into your mental load. You set yourself a timer
for the realistic amount of time and energy that you
(10:39):
have on that particular day, and commit to doing as
much as you can in that time. It might be
that you might not have a lot of time in
which case, you're just going to do the priority jobs.
It's going to help you focus, and it's going to
stop those cleaning jobs dragging on and on and on
and don't forget. If you are the sort of person
that it's just like, oh, I just don't know where
to start, I don't know what to do or get going,
and I feel like I'm going around in circles. Then
(11:00):
that's what Tom Rocks is there for. It is guide
cleaning sessions where I will talk you through an efficient
clean depending on which room you choose, there's all different rooms,
there's different lengths of clean, there's cleans that match your mood.
Go in there, filter, find one that you like, bookmark
you faves, and I will help you through it. I'm
going to help take away that decision fatigue. You can
(11:20):
kind of go on cleaning autopilot. Just listen and I
will walk you through it. People are always shocked at
the amount that they get done in those sessions, so
you haven't already go and check them out. Like I
said at the beginning of this episode, they are in
the Organized Mom app or you can find them on Patreon.
You do listen to them on the Organized Mom app.
You can save your phaves and you can also play
them with your own music, which is a little bit
(11:40):
of a game change as well. Have it. Those are
my easy ways that you can help streamline the cleaning,
to help beat the overwhelm and just be a little
bit more efficient so that you can get it done
as fast as possible and then go and get on
with the rest of your day. Why because there's more
to life than housework. If we get all of the
details about how to get in touch, how to get
your hands on the free print outs, how to down
load the Organized Mom app are going to be listed
(12:02):
in the episode description, and until we speak again, I
hope wherever you are in the world, you are happy,
healthy and well. Speak you saying bye.
