Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hello everybody, Welcome back. I hope you've had a really
(00:02):
lovely week. We've had a really nice sun your week
here in Kent. But literally right on cue the second
I hit recorord, thunder, thunder and lightnings. So I've got
a window just here, so if you hear anything that
is it's just the weather.
Speaker 2 (00:16):
It's just not playing ball.
Speaker 1 (00:17):
Speaking of the weather, we are talking today about things
that you need to be doing right now before it
gets too cold, to prep your house for the autumn.
Because if you're following along with Organized Christmas, you will
know that we are doing small jobs every single week
in the run up to December to get ready for Christmas.
That's just about gift giving and all that sort of thing.
There's lots of other important things that we need to
(00:40):
do right now just to get our homes ready for
the autumn.
Speaker 2 (00:43):
The first thing is a declutter.
Speaker 1 (00:45):
I was being interviewed last week about this exact topic actually,
and decluttering is by far one of the most important
things you can do.
Speaker 2 (00:55):
Declustering is a constant thing. It's never you're never done.
Speaker 1 (00:58):
And I think if we can switch which our mindset
from I need to declutter once or twice a year. Now,
that's what makes it overwhelming. If you can be like,
I just need to declutter all the time. I'm in
a constant state of depluttering, and just make it become
part of your routine, even if it's just like five
minutes at the start of every day when you're doing
(01:19):
your tom clean, just do a quick scan of that room.
Speaker 2 (01:22):
Is everything in this room deserving to be here?
Speaker 1 (01:25):
And that's just going to help you keep on top
of all the mess and all of the clutter, because
we know that mess attracts mess, doesn't it. But in
the autumn, as we are going into winter, you're going
to be spending more time in your house, more things
are going to be coming in, You're going to be.
Speaker 2 (01:38):
Doing more activities in your home. So there's just going
to be more stuff.
Speaker 1 (01:42):
And that's not even taking into account the Christmas stuff
if you celebrate Christmas, like all of the extra food
and all of the extra prezzies and that sort of thing.
Speaker 2 (01:51):
So if you can now either do it in.
Speaker 1 (01:53):
One session or just spread it like a little bit
ten minutes here and there over the weeks, do a declutter,
go through wardrobes, closets, cupboards, toy boxes, storage spaces everywhere
where items.
Speaker 2 (02:07):
Live, okay, where they might be stored.
Speaker 1 (02:10):
I have got several of these upstairs in the attic
where I might not open that cupboard for months, and
everything in that cupboard is like it doesn't need I
don't need it. So I am going to be going
and decluttering that this autumn. That is on my list,
and also bends toy cupboard as well, because it just
looks like a toy shopers it's loaded in there. So
there will be some spaces in your home that will
(02:30):
immediately spring to mind. Layer out those items that you
no longer need. Now not all of them are going
to be broken or rubbish or obviously you can now
either donate those items or you can sell those items.
Speaker 2 (02:44):
So not only are you making.
Speaker 1 (02:45):
Space in your home, but you're also potentially clawing back
some money if you're selling them, and you can repurpose
that money into the home budget. And also donating gently
used items, so items that have still got a lot
of wear in them yet are a really lovely way
of just giving back. Like going to charity shops thrift
shops around about Crystal Town, you can get some really
(03:07):
good bargains, especially for things like stocking fillers, so give
back a little bit. Think about right, Okay, these can
be reused, they don't really need to go to landfill.
Speaker 2 (03:14):
But when you are decluttering, what's the golden rule? Know
your exits.
Speaker 1 (03:18):
That's why it's so important not to tackle too big
an area at once, because otherwise you're left with a
load of stuff that you need to take to charity
shop or list on selling sites, and that in itself
becomes an overwhelming task that you.
Speaker 2 (03:30):
Might procrastinate and put off. So far better to do
little areas.
Speaker 1 (03:36):
Deal with that all that stuff that's come out of
that area before you start in a new area. The
next thing that you need to be thinking about.
Speaker 2 (03:42):
Is your autumnal, seasonal, winter budget.
Speaker 1 (03:45):
And I am not just talking about money here, I'm
also talking about time as well. It's like you've only
got so many pay days between now and the new year.
Speaker 2 (03:53):
You've also only got.
Speaker 1 (03:54):
So many weekends in so many hours as well, So
think about how you want to be spending your time
and also think about how you want to be spending
your money as well. Spending can get really out of
hand at this time of year, like you can feel
real pulled to do all of these different things, both
your money and also your time. So you've got to
be really intentional, very very mindful, and make sure that
(04:16):
you are spending both your time and your money on
things that really really matter to you, because otherwise you're
going to get to January with no money and also
absolutely exhausted as well. So set a budget for both
your time and your money early on. Think about who
it is you want to be spending time with, what
it is that you want to be spending your money on,
and don't forget things like little incidentals when it comes
(04:39):
to money, things like decorations, extra batteries, heating costs, that
sort of thing. All of these things can build up,
but thinking about them in advance being your future friend
just helps spread the cost and also helps prevent stress.
And a really good way of doing this is thinking
about money as well. Is and this is something that
we're going to be doing this year. Is a I
(05:00):
know loads of you already do it. It is when
thinking about gift giving, especially with the kids, thinking about
something they want, something they need, something to wear, and
something to read. So four items and it's just a
really lovely way of putting a little full stop on
that massive Christmas list, and it can work with any
(05:20):
budget as well. We're going to be doing that, so
if you've never tried that before, try it. And if
you're worrying as well about cost of everything coming up,
there's going to be a bumper video coming your way
about how to create magic in the festive season, either
free or for very this whole penny. So if you
are worrying about the budget stretching and you want to
(05:41):
give your kids.
Speaker 2 (05:41):
A lovely Christmas, then be sure to look out for
that video.
Speaker 1 (05:44):
You haven't already subscribed to the channel, please do because
otherwise you will missing notification when that comes out. We
are working on it at the moment. A lot of
work and a lot of prep is going into that.
But really thinking about gift giving and thinking about being
intentional with that, go back now, ask your kids what
they've got for Christmas last year.
Speaker 2 (06:02):
Because the chances that they might remember one or two
of the main presence.
Speaker 1 (06:06):
But like all of those presents that you panic bought,
they've probably they're probably in that cupboard now that you
need to declutter.
Speaker 2 (06:13):
So thinking about that and having one.
Speaker 1 (06:15):
Eye on that as well. Less is more quality over quantity.
And don't just buy something that is going to inevitably
end up in landfill. If you're worried about gig gifts
for like you said, your family and friends set up
a secret center. It really helps just to keep the
costs down. Another way that you can keep the cost
down as well is thinking about your food and your kitchen,
(06:35):
your pantry, your dry cupboard, and also your freezer. So again,
if you're following the Organized Christmas, we've already done a
toy call, so we've kind of already started on the decluttering.
We've done a freezer clear out, so we're kind of
doing the same in the kitchen as well. So if
you do an audit of what you've got in your
pantry with dry goods that sort of thing, do the
same in your freezer because that can also tell you
(06:57):
a lot, because there might be five boxes of mince
pies that you over bought last Christmas that you didn't eat.
There could be jars of a mincemeat that you were like,
I'm definitely going to.
Speaker 2 (07:09):
Make mince pies.
Speaker 1 (07:10):
I want to make you run out of time, and
for some reason, you never actually did it. So think
about everything that is still in your pantry and your
freezer potentially from last year, and make a note of
it so that when you are planning your budget and
you are trying to think, all, okay, how am I
going to spend money, you don't make the same mistakes
as you did last time.
Speaker 2 (07:28):
Next thing that you need to be doing as.
Speaker 1 (07:30):
Well is checking your clothing and your bedding. So getting
rid of anything in the hallway that's summer. So thinking
about getting rid of sandals, packing them away, lightweight shoes,
lightweight jackets, that sort of thing. Move them, pack them away,
put them somewhere safely. You're going to create space in
your hall so you're going to be cutting down on clutter,
and then bring out the wellies, the heavier clothes, the
(07:53):
heavier bedding. Now is the perfect time to assess your
winter coats, scarves, blankets. Do a little bit of an audit,
make sure that everything is clean, in good condition. If
something thing's mending or repairing, or maybe taking to the
dry cleaners, do it now before things get too cold.
Same with your winter bedding as well. Maybe you've got
a winter dubate that you want to pull out of storage.
(08:14):
Does it need a freshen up? Do you need to
take that to the dry cleaners. Does it need spot
cleaning or airing?
Speaker 2 (08:20):
Do you need to be.
Speaker 1 (08:20):
Going and pulling out the draft excluders for your house?
Do you want to put your thicker cut We've got
this iss we have got no well, I say non
Mike is like diligently going around and replacing our windows
with this single glazer. He's doing it himself because the
quotes get a company and to do it with Mega.
Speaker 2 (08:41):
So he's doing like one window at a time. But
so we live in a very drafty house.
Speaker 1 (08:45):
So do you want to swap out your curtains for
thicker lined thermal winter curtains?
Speaker 2 (08:49):
Do you want to get your electric blankets out?
Speaker 1 (08:51):
All of these are little jobs to do so that
when it does get really cold, you're not.
Speaker 2 (08:56):
Feeling like you're on the back foot.
Speaker 1 (08:57):
You're already prepped and you're ready to go be your
ultimate future friend. And finally, on a very practical level,
check your doormats. Check your doormats. Do they need replacing?
Because they are your secret weapons to keeping your floors
in the home clean during the the mucky, wet, muddy weather.
Speaker 2 (09:17):
If you have a decent doormat that is doing its job.
You are halfway there.
Speaker 1 (09:22):
So if you haven't already, get yourself a doormat for
the back door or the front door, or check the
one that you currently have to make.
Speaker 2 (09:27):
Sure is does it need replacing.
Speaker 1 (09:30):
And also just do the usual stuff like checking your
guttering and also packing away any summer furniture like cushions
and that sort of thing. Making sure that your umbrella
outside is all tied up really really nice and safe
and secure for when it starts to get windy. Still
them in secure place so that you can get them
out when the spring finally comes back round again. Now,
(09:50):
as luck would have it, I do have get your
home ready for autumn tom Rocks Guiding session that is
going to go live on Monday tomorrow. One session, and
it's kind of like a look it's a practical mix
between getting these jobs done and a.
Speaker 2 (10:05):
Nice little fath as well.
Speaker 1 (10:06):
We're going to do things like changing the bedding to
the winter bedding, getting the autumn throws out in the
living room. We're going to go around the whole house
and Tommy Fi or Tommy Phi make it look autumnal.
So that is going to go live tomorrow. Make sure
you keep an eye up for that and then also
next week the other tom Rock session that is going
to go live as well as the Organized Christmas ambient
session for week four, because it's a week four of
Organized Christmas tomorrow.
Speaker 2 (10:27):
Can you believe it? My goodness, but a third of
the way through. How is this happening? It's going so fast?
Speaker 1 (10:32):
But there is a let's take a deep breath and
reset the cleaning. If for whatever reason you're feeling behind
at the moment, that is going to come out midweeks.
Speaker 2 (10:40):
To be sure to give that a go.
Speaker 1 (10:41):
If you're feeling a little bit overwhelmed with the cleaning
at the moment, and listen, there is more to life
and housework. All we can ever do is our very
best with the time and energy that you have, and
whatever you have done today, there is enough have an
amazing week.
Speaker 2 (10:53):
So each is say bye.
