So when the two passions meet in the middle, you get this week's episode of The Original Deadtime Stories. in front of our twenty four infifty pound box television. Of course,
now that I work closely with theentertainment world, I know more about the
darker side of reality shows. Thepressure put on contestants is brutal. I
mean, in most cases, youhave a camera trained on you for the
better part of the day, andnearly everything you say can and probably will

be misconstrued. Editing is a powerfulthing. If my friend says something I'm
supposed to get angry about but don't, producers may very well take a reaction
I had to something totally unrelated twentyminutes earlier and make it look like that
was the reaction I had just now. And don't even get me started on
how a beer blanket can make someoneoverreact for the sake of good TV.

But even knowing this is how thingswork, I will tune in every week
until that last rose is handed outor the winning key is pulled from the
nomination box. I have no shameabout it. Naturally. The casting process
for these shows is a long one, and I'm sure numerous background checks are
performed, But every once in awhile, something slips through the cracks and
you get a reality TV star withfame beyond their wildest dreams. Whether it's

TV. In two thousand and seven, the playboy model was crowned the winner
of Beauty and the Geek's third season. Just under a year later, she
went on to compete on the secondseason of Rock of Love and placed third

on the first season of I LoveMoney. By the fall of that year,
she appeared on yet another VH oneshow, Rock of Love. Charm
School Casting clearly loved the ditzy,blonde bombshell, which is why they gave
her a series entirely devoted to her, Megan and Once a Millionaire. The
concept was simple, seventeen guys appearedbefore Megan, happily showing off just how

his hotel and opened his laptop.He scrolled through MySpace and found Megan's profile.
He might have thought it over forhalf a second before starting a new
message to his showman's Hey, babe, I really enjoyed our date. Oh

date the other guys, it's reallyhard. I mean, that's the game

Megan gain a stalkery vibe in RedFlags paid closer attention to what Ryan said
on their dates. So two anda half million dollars that's a lot of
money. Yeah, but it's gonnabe a while before you see it.

worried about it was what the otherguys have said. Who what the hell
are they saying, like you're actuallytrying to be an actor and like you're

It's the crew prepared to roll cameras. Megan had credit cards she handed
out to the men, similar toRoses on The Bachelor. If the guys

any sign they're not her millionaire,and the card was cut. A producer

Ryan's dad flew from Canada to watchshit you're cutting Ryan right? Yeah,
I would not want to be inyour shoes. Megan nervously stood before
the remaining men, their credit cardsin her hand. Off to the side,

changed when she dropped her career asa model and drafted a plan to become
a broker and personal trainer. Whenshe approached Ryan that March, he might
have offered her a drink to getthe conversation start. So, hot shot,
what do you do? I'm arealist. I actually just finished filming
my first TV show TV. Imean it was some dumb reality show.

But Cassie will have much bigger rolesfor me. Then I can find a

was going to be her ticket tofame. Wanting to get out of Vegas
and become someone bigger in Hollywood,she saw Ryan as her excuse to leave.
It was a twisted match made inheaven. That's why I'm March eighteenth,
a mere two days after meeting,Brian married Jasmine at the Little White

Wedding chapel. Now, hopefully youknow as well as I do, how
horrible of an idea this was.But for the reality star, it was
a dream come true. Not onlydid he get an extremely attractive wife,
but his visa was expiring, sothe marriage provided a green card. The

touch anything. Oh, I don'twant to look in there. Tell you
the truth. What I thought whenI first saw him was he looked monic.
That's the only way I can describeit. I don't think I'll ever
forget it. No physical suicide notewas found, but police did locate a

file on Ryan's computer named Will andTestament. First, I would like to
apologize to my family for all thetrouble I've caused him. I know the
media attention I received from my marriageis it's put a lot of pressure on
them, and for that I amsorry. I love Jasmine with all my
heart. She was the most amazingwoman and I could never properly put into

words just how I felt about her. It was hard knowing she was cheating
on me with past boyfriends. Sheand I were always meant to be together
and I hated that they came betweenus. But at the end of the
day, she was the real monster, not me. Due to his sudden
suicide, Ryan would never go ontrial, but it's widely accepted that he
murdered Jasmine Fiore. About a weekafter the suicide, police found Jasmine's car

close to Ryan and Jasmine's apartment,is believed he abandoned it there the morning

I'm just completely horrified that this couldhappen, especially to somebody that I
know. I feel really sorry forthe girl and her family. He would
be like the least likely person I'dever expect to do something like this just

It really brought into question the castingprocess for reality TV series. VH
one put blame on fifty one MindsEntertainment, the production company behind Megan Wants
a Millionaire. A spokesperson for thecompany kept it simple, fifty one Minds
was not aware of Ryan Jakin's recordwhen it cast him on Megan Wants a
Millionaire. Obviously, if the companyhad been given a full picture of his

background, he would have never beenallowed on the show. The company did
have in place when it thought wasa thorough vetting process that involved complete background
checks by an outside company for allcontestants on its show. Clearly the process
did not work properly in this case. What was missing from that full picture,

you ask, Oh, nothing much, just a history of violence against
women. In nineteen ninety nine,Ryan learned an ex girlfriend was with a
new man, so broke into herhome and smashed a picture. He was
charged with breaking and entering, pleadedto mischief causing property damage, and only
had to complete twenty five hours ofcommunity service. In January of two thousand

and seven, he was given fifteenmonths probation and counseling for sex addiction and
domestic violence. This was due toan incident in two thousand and five where
Ryan assaulted his girlfriend, Fern Jewel. Fern was all too familiar with Ryan's

in Calgary. It was because Ryanhad punched her in the head and knocked

her to her niece for leaving hishome one night. But despite all of
this, Ryan's father has never believedhis son was guilty. My boy would
pass out at the side of blood. Something down there these last four months,
including this girl destroyed him. Iadvised him fifty times to get rid

but being hounded by reporters after thesudden loss of a woman he loved
certainly aided in his decision to endhis life. Sorry, mister Jenkins,
but I have decided with the courtthat enough evidence points to Ryan as the
murderer. But truthfully, I don'tknow who to feel sorry for. Both
Ryan and Jasmine cheated on each otherand were really only using the other to

it was finally having the woman ofhis dreams. Most everyone who studies this

watched shows like Survivor and Big Brotheralmost since they started airing in the early
two thousands. I think the reasonI'm still sucked in every season is because
it takes me back to a simplertime when I was on summer vacation and

in front of our twenty four infifty pound box television. Of course,
now that I work closely with theentertainment world, I know more about the
darker side of reality shows. Thepressure put on contestants is brutal. I
mean, in most cases, youhave a camera trained on you for the
better part of the day, andnearly everything you say can and probably will

be misconstrued. Editing is a powerfulthing. If my friend says something I'm
supposed to get angry about but don't, producers may very well take a reaction
I had to something totally unrelated twentyminutes earlier and make it look like that
was the reaction I had just now. And don't even get me started on
how a beer blanket can make someoneoverreact for the sake of good TV.

But even knowing this is how thingswork, I will tune in every week
until that last rose is handed outor the winning key is pulled from the

for these shows is a long one, and I'm sure numerous background checks are
performed, But every once in awhile, something slips through the cracks and
you get a reality TV star withfame beyond their wildest dreams. Whether it's

take Megan to a fancy French restaurantin a very expensive sports car. So,
like, what's the dream? Ryan? Honestly, I'm really ready to

of the show. That's cool.I mean most guys are like just wanting
sex or something, but you seemlike the real deal. Of course I
am, babe. The date seemedto go pretty well, and Ryan was
falling for Megan fast. After thecameras stopped rolling, Ryan went back to

his hotel and opened his laptop.He scrolled through MySpace and found Megan's profile.
He might have thought it over forhalf a second before starting a new
message to his showman's Hey, babe, I really enjoyed our date. Oh

even harder. More so than embarrassment, Ryan was probably angry his chances of

living in Los Angeles and making itbig were now shot. Wanting to prove
to the world in himself that hestill had it, he went to a

As Ryan finished his dream, heturned to see a gorgeous blonde walk
in time froze as his eyes buggedout of his head. Her hair was

Barbie blonde, her breasts ginormous,and her figure quite slim in the skin
tight dress. Who is that theblonde Jasmine Joy She's in here every now
and then. Jasmine didn't realize it, but the trajectory of her life was
about to take a turn. Themodel started a humble life in a small
California town called Bunny Done, withno commercial shops and a population of just

dramatically different lifestyle Jasmine had growing up. Her mother raised her alone, and

was probably not much of a surprisein two thousand and six when she announced

for Sin City, where she quicklygot jobs as a model, low budget

changed when she dropped her career asa model and drafted a plan to become
a broker and personal trainer. Whenshe approached Ryan that March, he might
have offered her a drink to getthe conversation start. So, hot shot,
what do you do? I'm arealist. I actually just finished filming
my first TV show TV. Imean it was some dumb reality show.

Once the initial surprise had left,the man was able to register the

good enough, sir, I'm coolin records to know Ryan Jenkins. Fellow.

We're a boy in Marino. Whenmy wife noticed him. Man looking
at an awful lot like Ryan drivingin, just thought you should sure enough.
When the sheriff arrived on the scene, he found Ryan's car parked,
but the boat trailer empty. Thehood of the car was warm, meaning
Ryan couldn't have gotten too far.The sheriff called Canadian Border Patrol and informed

them to keep an eye out inthe water for Ryan's boat. The next
day, an official warrant for Ryan'sarrest was issued. Worried about his son,
Dan wanted to hop on a planefor Vancouver as quickly as he could,
but got caught up in security.Knowing police were after Ryan for a

legal entry into Canada, Dan wasshocked when the boy attempted to call him,

What other choice do I have?I can't stand the pressure that this
was put on me, and it'seven worse to think about what you and

out his master key. Oh myGod. Before him was Ryan Jenkins's body,
swinging lifelessly from a shelf. Abelt looped around his neck when police
arrived to investigate. The biggest questionwas whether Ryan left a suicide note explaining

why he might have hung himself andconfirm if he murdered Jasmine. I didn't
touch anything. Oh, I don'twant to look in there. Tell you
the truth. What I thought whenI first saw him was he looked monic.
That's the only way I can describeit. I don't think I'll ever
forget it. No physical suicide notewas found, but police did locate a

file on Ryan's computer named Will andTestament. First, I would like to
apologize to my family for all thetrouble I've caused him. I know the
media attention I received from my marriageis it's put a lot of pressure on
them, and for that I amsorry. I love Jasmine with all my
heart. She was the most amazingwoman and I could never properly put into

words just how I felt about her. It was hard knowing she was cheating
on me with past boyfriends. Sheand I were always meant to be together
and I hated that they came betweenus. But at the end of the
day, she was the real monster, not me. Due to his sudden
suicide, Ryan would never go ontrial, but it's widely accepted that he
murdered Jasmine Fiore. About a weekafter the suicide, police found Jasmine's car

in a West Hollywood trad Joe's parkinglot. Seeing as the grocery store was
close to Ryan and Jasmine's apartment,is believed he abandoned it there the morning
he left Elmar. When police searchedthe car's interior, they found blood on
the back windshield, as well asthe passenger and back seats. Tuts of
Hair told police Jasmine's scalp had beentugged on two Underneath the car was a

Houserman, the woman who almost chosehim to be her husband, was mortified.
I'm just completely horrified that this couldhappen, especially to somebody that I
know. I feel really sorry forthe girl and her family. He would
be like the least likely person I'dever expect to do something like this just
because he was so nice, andI don't know, I feel really bad.

It really brought into question the castingprocess for reality TV series. VH
one put blame on fifty one MindsEntertainment, the production company behind Megan Wants
a Millionaire. A spokesperson for thecompany kept it simple, fifty one Minds
was not aware of Ryan Jakin's recordwhen it cast him on Megan Wants a
Millionaire. Obviously, if the companyhad been given a full picture of his
(37:31):
background, he would have never beenallowed on the show. The company did
have in place when it thought wasa thorough vetting process that involved complete background
checks by an outside company for allcontestants on its show. Clearly the process
did not work properly in this case. What was missing from that full picture,
(37:52):
you ask, Oh, nothing much, just a history of violence against
women. In nineteen ninety nine,Ryan learned an ex girlfriend was with a
new man, so broke into herhome and smashed a picture. He was
charged with breaking and entering, pleadedto mischief causing property damage, and only
had to complete twenty five hours ofcommunity service. In January of two thousand
(38:13):
and seven, he was given fifteenmonths probation and counseling for sex addiction and
domestic violence. This was due toan incident in two thousand and five where
Ryan assaulted his girlfriend, Fern Jewel. Fern was all too familiar with Ryan's
behavior when his violence against Jasmine cameout. When Fern filed her assault charged
in Calgary. It was because Ryanhad punched her in the head and knocked

her to her niece for leaving hishome one night. But despite all of
this, Ryan's father has never believedhis son was guilty. My boy would
pass out at the side of blood. Something down there these last four months,
including this girl destroyed him. Iadvised him fifty times to get rid
of that relationship. It breaks myheart to know how my son's life ended,

but being hounded by reporters after thesudden loss of a woman he loved
certainly aided in his decision to endhis life. Sorry, mister Jenkins,
but I have decided with the courtthat enough evidence points to Ryan as the
murderer. But truthfully, I don'tknow who to feel sorry for. Both
Ryan and Jasmine cheated on each otherand were really only using the other to

get something they lusted after. ForJasmine it was money, and for Ryan
it was finally having the woman ofhis dreams. Most everyone who studies this
case agrees Ryan's obsessive jealousy and lackof awareness of reality provided all of the
ingredients for a tragic ending even Hollywoodcouldn't make up. Megan Wants a Murderer
