Speaker 1 (00:09):
How you doing, everybody.
Speaker 2 (00:10):
I'm Pen Bikoff and welcome to the Peaks post game
live Indiana seventy three to nothing winners over Indiana State
at Memorial Stadium. As the Hoosiers dominated this thing from
the opening drive. There's not a lot of bad to
talk about with the Hoosiers today, save for a injury
(00:30):
to BB that is more than a bit of a concern.
It was a non contact thing, Lee BB junior running
the ball. I went down, kind of flexed his knee
a little bit. Was not my favorite thing on that.
So we'll see exactly how how much of an impact
that is. But a one two, three nine three twenty
(00:53):
six hundred is the number. I'm sitting out here over
by the tennis center on the north side of A
seven hall. Got some people listening. If you're in the
parking lot, Oh man, OSB disconnected?
Speaker 1 (01:06):
That's not good. We're working on that. Hopefully that's not
going to be a huge concern.
Speaker 2 (01:12):
I don't know why that would happen, but you know what,
when you're remote, that's something that happens. That one two,
three nine, three twenty six hundred is your number. And
we are extremely excited with the Hoosiers performance to this point,
very very excited to say the least, as Indiana is
(01:33):
able to put together on one hell of a game
in this one. I want to hear from you, and
hopefully you've been able to hear me as I see
it's popping up now. Kind of starlink for this thing.
Got satellite internet really would be great if it just
worked flawlessly.
Speaker 1 (01:53):
But we'll see.
Speaker 2 (01:55):
We'll stay on the air as long as you want
to talk, either in the chat, on Twitter, calling on
in eight, one, two, three, nine three, twenty six hundred
is the number. We are live and we're here for
you im Memorial Stadium. If you're walking by walking to
your car, you got thoughts on this game, come on over,
say hi, we got a microphone. You can come on
(02:16):
the show with me. We're happy to do.
Speaker 1 (02:19):
So.
Speaker 2 (02:20):
Let's start off with just the incredible job that Fernando
Mendoza did in this one. Nineteen of twenty passing, completed
his first fourteen passes I believe it is for one
hundred and sixty eight yards total game, nineteen of twenty
two seventy five touchdowns. He also ran six times for
(02:42):
nineteen yards and a touchdown. Just a phenomenal, phenomenal performance
Fernando Mendoza. Now, certainly the opponent matters, and I recognize that,
but he was his one pass that he had, his
arm was hit while he was throwing, that went incomplete,
and that was it. He didn't play in the second half.
(03:04):
I mean, just a fantastic job. He was everything as advertising.
That was the Mendoza that I saw in camp. That
was so incredibly impressive. Alberto Mendoza comes in in the
second half six and nine, passing one hundred and four yards.
He throws two touchdowns. So now twice in college football history,
I have brothers throwing a touchdown pass in the same
(03:26):
game for the same team, and both times it's been
at Indiana both times this year, eight one two three
to nine three twenty six hundred is the number Indiana ran.
The ball will rendered one yards rushing six hundred and
eighty total yards versus just seventy seven given up by
Indiana State. Look, this is exactly what you wanted this
(03:49):
game to be. Just a good solid tune up for
next week. It's going to get way harder next week
and going forward because the Big Ten season begins. But
still getting this one under your belt. Cruising to an
easy victory is important. You know, we could go ahead
and pick them apart and say, hey, they only scored
seven points in the fourth quarter, but that's only because
that's all they wanted to do. Wait, won two, three,
(04:13):
nine three, twenty six hundred is the number we do have.
Our first call caller, give me your name, where you're from,
and what you got.
Speaker 3 (04:21):
Hey, man, this is Andy McClaren. I'm from Warsaw, Indiana.
Speaker 1 (04:24):
Hi, how are you doing doing well?
Speaker 4 (04:28):
Thanks?
Speaker 3 (04:29):
I am about knotted off in this game. We've seen
this incredible offense and defense that Signetti is building fourteen
times now. We look like a well oiled machine. I
think going into Illinois for next week, I think we're
(04:51):
ready and I really hope that we can get over
the hump and you know, I use that words loosely
of course, and be the top ranked team. I think
we're ready to do that next week.
Speaker 1 (05:07):
Well.
Speaker 2 (05:07):
I think that's what was so important about this game
was just you're playing with plenty of confidence you're not
and that didn't have any letdown. They stepped on their
next What do you want to see next week that
will really make you feel really comfortable that what we
saw last.
Speaker 1 (05:21):
Year is going to continue to grow. Yeah, for sure,
I don't.
Speaker 3 (05:27):
I don't foresee us blowing them out. Honestly, I think
it could be a really neck and neck game. I
just want to see us get by a ranked team,
just to kind of put the put all the doubters,
you know, to kind of quiet them down a little bit.
(05:48):
I really think that if our program to get to
the next level, we gotta beat Illinois next week. And
I don't want to use much win, but it's just
I think all other to your fans have suffered long enough.
Sure it would just be a blessing to see us
get by Illinois next week.
Speaker 2 (06:08):
And partially because I believe that's that's kind of in
my head. That is a peer team. It is a
team that is you look, when you're playing Notre Dame,
You're playing Ohio State, you're playing Penn State. Those are
teams that historically have been a lot better than Indiana,
and so you want to go ahead and you want
to challenge those guys and be able to battle with them.
ILLINOI is a team that you routinely beat, and so
(06:31):
being able to play a very good Illinois team don't
get me wrong, But be able to play them, that's
kind of a peer level team to me. That's what's
going to be really important for this ball club.
Speaker 4 (06:43):
Yeah. Absolutely, And Illinois is good. Yeah, I mean they
are really good.
Speaker 3 (06:48):
And if we can get by them, I think it's
just the next step.
Speaker 4 (06:51):
For this program.
Speaker 2 (06:54):
And being able to continue to see the growth of
the defense and the offense start to clickman Thoza, continue
to click, I think is going to be really really important.
And getting off to a good start and taking care
of the football is going to be really important next week.
Speaker 1 (07:10):
Thanks so much for the call. Did you have anything else?
Speaker 3 (07:13):
Thank you, Ken, that's it.
Speaker 1 (07:15):
Thank you appreciate it. Enjoy your weekend.
Speaker 2 (07:19):
But A one, two, three, nine, three, twenty six hundred
is the number Indiana seventy three to nothing winners against
the Sycamores is run through a couple of these numbers
that are just incredible. Indiana out out gains Indiana State
six hundred and eighty to seventy seven. The Hoosiers were
flagged six times for forty five yards. Indiana State did
(07:42):
not have a penalty on the day called on them.
Indiana State was two of fourteen on third down and
gain just five first downs. In this ballgame, Indiana ran
sixty seven plays averaged ten point one yards of play.
In other words, they on average, they got a first
down every time they snapped the ball, and a big
(08:03):
part of that was the passing game.
Speaker 1 (08:05):
The running game made a huge difference as.
Speaker 2 (08:08):
Well as Kobe Martin, he got only played the second half,
still eleven carries for one hundred and nine yards for
Kobe Martin, just an incredible day for him. Mendoza again
nineteen to twenty for two seventy and five touchdowns. He
ran eleven times for I'm sorry, six times for nineteen
(08:28):
yards and a score of his own. And I wanted
to talk about that score because on that play it
was fourth down and Mendoza dropped back to pass. You
had kind of an odd situation where it looked like
there was some confusion in the routes being run, and
you had two guys that were packed right together with
one another. They ended up not being part of the play.
(08:52):
But Mendoza's poise was he'd be looking off to the left,
and the fact that he was able to pull it
down and use his quickness to get into the end
zone really finished off a very important drive in the
red zone and he had a nine of nine scoring
in the red zone tonight. And again, Mendoza was just fantastic.
So was Omar Cooper. Ten catches, two hundred and seven yards,
(09:14):
four touchdowns, record tying a touchdown run by Cooper. Yes,
we lose our our our phone calls again, we're working
on this. But a record tying day for Cooper, four
touchdown catches ties and IU record, which is incredible. I mean,
(09:38):
he was fantastic and was able to do a great job.
They're ten catches, two hundred and seven yards, four touchdowns,
only the ninth player in IU history to have a
two hundred yard receiving game and he got there and
I think that that is great to see him continue
to build. Elijah Sharrat three catches for twenty three yards,
(10:00):
took a top early in the game and wasn't really
used too much after that, and that was okay.
Speaker 1 (10:06):
You know, he wasn't needed.
Speaker 2 (10:08):
You want to keep him fresh, make sure that he
doesn't get banged up, and so they were able to
do that.
Speaker 1 (10:15):
On the chat.
Speaker 2 (10:16):
Wanted to throw in their coaches postgame comments are fascinating.
The first two teams IU played with the IU defense
and conflict Indiana State doesn't reminds me of coach Nights scheduling.
That makes me happy, And that's one thing I do
want to talk about in a little bit is just
the scheduling. I know people were planning about this being
an FCS team and all of that kind of stuff,
(10:36):
and you want to get power forward team in there
before you get to the big ten. Maybe steps. I
don't disagree that that's something that should come. But as
you are putting these things together, these schedules together, these
seasons together, doing these kind of things is really really
important to be able to build your team's confidence. I
like the way the offensive line worked on this one.
(10:59):
They just dominated, They didn't mess around, they moved the
ball easily, just did a great job. Tyree Tucker had
a nice sack while he was still engaged with a block.
I thought the defensive line did a much better job
of shedding blockers with their using their hands.
Speaker 1 (11:16):
Also, I was impressed.
Speaker 2 (11:17):
You know, on the second drive of the game, Indiana
overcame a potentially drive killing face mask to score a touchdown,
and that drive showcase Mendos's arms and legs. Cooper was
fantastic defense. Gave up four total yards and zero first
downs in the first quarter. I mean, you cannot ask
much more than that balt security. It one't dislike I had,
(11:40):
was that ball security in the red zone. On the
first drive, there was a fumble and it was a
fumble in the red zone. You don't want those ball
was loose for a solid three and a half seconds.
I went back and I counted, and I got, you know, one,
one thousand and two, one thousand and three, and then
it was recovered that ball was on the turf forever.
But Indiana got it, and so that that is the
(12:03):
key to all of that. I want to hear from
you in the chat or you know, if you're walking
by a Memorial stadium, come on over, pick up a microphone,
or give me a call. Eight one two, three nine three,
twenty six hundred is the number. It's quarter after ten
on a Friday night. So I understand if this is
going to be a shorter show, but hopefully we'll we'll,
(12:25):
you know, get some visits because I want to hear
from you. Definitely want to hear from you. A lot
of families out here today. Gorgeous night for football really
a fantastic evening for for the Hoosiers. It was a
team that didn't turn the ball over, didn't force any
turnovers either, and that was a little bit surprising. But
(12:52):
they just dominated thirty three minutes of time of possession.
They got exactly what they wanted every time they snapped
the ball more or less. You look at this defense
for the Hoosiers. They had sixteen tackles for loss in
this one sixteen. Indiana State had two. It is dominated
(13:15):
in every possible way. You know, you had a nice
sack by Isaiah Jones. You had a great sack.
Speaker 5 (13:24):
You know.
Speaker 2 (13:25):
Marie Landino he puts together three tackles, has a one
and a half tackles for loss, had himself a sack
as well. Just a fantastic job by this defense. They
were doing everything that they could and that's why, as
Kurt Signetti always says.
Speaker 1 (13:43):
Yeah, it's pretty simple, I win. Google me.
Speaker 2 (13:48):
John in the chat says, did every player that is
not injured get to play tonight?
Speaker 1 (13:52):
I don't know. It's a good question, but.
Speaker 2 (13:58):
I would have to go through and try to find
out who hadn't played, look at the roster and combine
it and I can't do that while I'm on the air,
So it's a good question. I know they tried to
get as many people as they could out of the game.
You know this, Indiana scores forty five points in the
first half. It's the most points they scored since twenty
thirteen in a half when they did that to Indiana
(14:21):
State as well. So ISSU has proven to be pretty
easy to beat, even for IU over the years. And
that's the other thing is, yeah, it's Indiana State, but
we've seen a lot of non conference games over the
years in which Indiana might struggle a little bit in
this kind of situation, might lose a little bit of focus,
(14:44):
and that was certainly not something that Kurt Signetti was
interested in doing. And I also liked how in the
third quarter Indiana continued to really step on Indiana State's neck.
They really didn't let them even get any hint of
momentum along the way. The Hoosiers outscore Indiana State twenty
one to nothing in the third quarter, the same as
(15:06):
they did in the first quarter. And the important part
about that is, uh that that was all backups in
the game at that point, more or less had a
couple of starters still out there, but more or less
it was it was everybody was uh the uh uh
you know, your main guys, and being able to do that,
I think is uh is incredibly important to be able
(15:30):
to just continue to work a team in that situation.
Eight one, two, three, nine three, twenty six hundred is
the number again. I'm over on the north side of
Assembly Hall, right next to the tennis center, sitting here
by myself with a light on my on me that
everybody can uh come by have uh, you know, feel
(15:51):
free to to come by and join me on the microphone.
Give your thoughts on the game. We'd love to have
you listening at home. Give me a call eight one
two twenty six and uh just want what to to
hear from you, John says, did every Okay, that was
the previous thing.
Speaker 1 (16:12):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (16:12):
Irish for life says, Go Hoosiers. The real season starts
next week. Pray that all the players are healthy. I'm
concerned about bb Yeah, me too, because of the fact
that bb uh it's a non contact injury. He was
hurt on the cut before he was hit, and so
that is certainly a concern that that I have because
(16:34):
I don't like when you have injuries like that in
any way, shape or form. But you know that's kind
of uh uh, you know what you deal with at
this point. Let me go ahead and uh and pull
this up on uh and this would be Kurt Signetti's
post game press conference, so hopefully uh, you'll be able
(16:57):
to uh.
Speaker 1 (16:59):
To hear this in just a second.
Speaker 2 (17:02):
People who are walking by aren't going to be able
to hear anything with this, But let's go ahead and
get Kurt Signetti.
Speaker 1 (17:13):
Queued up and here we go.
Speaker 6 (17:16):
Okay, So the message today that the coach isn't the team.
You know, mental intensity and urgency was energy, and we
wanted to play one play at a time like it
was game on the line, regardless of competitive circumstances, but
urgency and mental intensity, and that it would come from
(17:36):
the coaches. If it came from the coaches at all times,
the players would feed off of it. So I think
we got better week two. I think we got better
week three. And I don't think defense gave up a
first down till four minutes ago in the second quarter,
and then you know, we pulled them pretty early in
the third. So I thought Indiana State did come out
(17:57):
early in the game and play hard and flew around.
We just had more bullets in our gun than they did.
We emptied the bench, played a lot of guys, so
wasn't pleased with some of the penalties early. We did
make a lot of explosive plays in the game. So questions, Yeah,
just you started Zen over Benson an offensive line just
(18:18):
well went into that decision.
Speaker 1 (18:19):
Then Benson was obviously in the second half. Yea.
Speaker 6 (18:24):
Benson was not available for the first half violation team
rules and regulations.
Speaker 7 (18:31):
He probably don't know much yet, but in any sense
of with Lee bb what what kind of happened on
that play?
Speaker 6 (18:37):
And yeah, I think it was non contact and uh,
you know, we'll find out more Sunday or Monday. I guess.
Speaker 8 (18:47):
Coach Big Knight, Romark Cooper, you've talked about him since
you've been here, by his potential, I guess is that
kind of what you were talking about? And what what
were you pleased most about with his games night?
Speaker 6 (18:59):
What us pleased most about was you know, his production
and what was his production? Omark Cooper ten for two
oh seven four touchdowns. Oh, that's pretty good day's work. Yeah,
I think you know, they had a hard time with
him out on the perimeter obviously, so and we got
him the ball and there was some space and he
(19:20):
took advantage of it.
Speaker 8 (19:23):
Yeah, coach, I know this one just ended. But obviously
everybody's talking about a week four showdown two ranked teams,
Prime Time. This is your early thoughts on having a
matchup like this in your home stadium.
Speaker 6 (19:35):
I'm sure it'll be electric, but you know, I'll kind
of think about it tomorrow. The coaches are off, players
have trainer check in, and we'll get back at it
next week.
Speaker 5 (19:48):
Coach Steven Daly had the big tackle on the fake
punt and then another sack.
Speaker 2 (19:53):
Can you talk about his production and then what you
saw on that fake punt that allowed him to make
that stop.
Speaker 6 (19:58):
Yeah, well he's been improving and you know, getting better
every week. Feel good about that him and why we're
big post spring editions. They faked the punt because we
jumped off sides to play before on the punt block,
which is an undisciplined penalty, and he made a nice
(20:19):
play on it. I can't tell you exactly what happened.
I didn't have a great angle, but we got the
ball back and plus territory.
Speaker 9 (20:28):
Kurt, you sent the last few weeks talking about the
things your team needs to clean up around the edges,
the little details that can show up down the road.
I know you haven't watched the tape yet tonight, but
do you do you feel like your teammate progress in
that area tonight or do you still have some concerns?
Speaker 6 (20:41):
I think I said that already that you know, we
accomplished what we wanted to accomplish tonight and the defense,
you know, last week was a kind of a point
of emphasis for me, and I expected us to have
a dominant performance and we did. And uh we swarmed
(21:02):
the ball. I wasn't real pleased with the penalties on
special teams, the penalties on offense with the ones.
Speaker 7 (21:10):
Uh.
Speaker 6 (21:10):
The quarterback was nineteen to twenty for two seventy but
threw it out there a few times when he or
when he shouldn't have. But all in all, uh, we
took another big step forward.
Speaker 2 (21:24):
Yeah, coach, After Fernando kept the ball on an option,
you took a time out and were upset with him.
Speaker 8 (21:32):
What was behind that?
Speaker 1 (21:33):
And you just wanna keep him healthy? Yeah?
Speaker 6 (21:35):
He Uh, he had made a couple uh poor decisions consecutively.
L and I had just alluded to throwing the ball
on the RPO when he should have given it, should
have handled a ball to back on that was starting
to get off rhythm in the past game a little bit,
so I was just trying to rou him back in
a little bit, and they made a really good play
the next play.
Speaker 1 (21:56):
Coach, what do you learn about your team's maturity tonight?
Speaker 6 (22:00):
I think, you know, I think we've taken the steps
we need to take.
Speaker 1 (22:04):
We've got a lot of guys that played a lot
of football. You know.
Speaker 6 (22:07):
I heard a stat that we're the most veteran team
in the Big Ten in terms of career starts by
far what the stat was, So, you know, all the
teams in the past kind of like the new quarterbacks
have been able to build on their success and develop
more confidence and cohesiveness and unity and develop positive intangibles
(22:28):
which are important moving forward. And but I want to
put it all in perspective too. I don't want to
be sort of go overboard on it. But I thought
we did deny what we wanted.
Speaker 1 (22:39):
To do, and.
Speaker 6 (22:43):
I was pleased to see that. And I didn't see
anybody relaxing at an't point in the game, coaches or
players and so coaches could use the day off, they'll
get one to more players will get an extra day,
and then we'll pick it up for the next one exactly.
Speaker 7 (23:03):
You talk about some things you want to get done,
especially defensively. I think it's thirty tackles for loss in
the last two games. I recognize the standard competition is
going to go up here once you get into the
conference play, but especially given how many new faces experience faces,
but new faces you had on that defensive line, do
you feel like that group is starting to kind of
control the line of scrimmage the way that you want
it to.
Speaker 6 (23:21):
Well, I'm sure we probably controlled it tonight, but I
don't want to make statements without watching the tape. Co
Chains would have a better idea maybe of what was
going on over there. All I know is they didn't
have a first down until four minutes ago in the
second quarter, and if we wouldn't have pulled our defense,
I don't know if they had had thirty yards total offense.
So you know, but I think this offense was a
(23:43):
lot different than the first two offenses we saw structurally,
and the first two defense offenses we saw. We're really
capable of putting you in conflict, and we saw it
with Odu on the quarterback runs, and we saw with
Kennesaw with the tempo and a lot of different formations
(24:05):
and looks. So since we had a good week of
practice on defense and that this was a little bit
more of a conventional offense, so to speak, I felt
pretty confident that we'd get this kind of a really
good performance and uh, you know that ought to give
us confidence and belief moving forward.
Speaker 2 (24:28):
A one, two, three, nine, three, twenty six hundred is
the number, you know is and have a signetty on
the uh in the post game, he is, uh make
sure that he has the players focused as as best
as they can. He doesn't like anybody, uh to let down,
anybody to relax at any point. And uh, you know
(24:50):
he was happy. He was happy with that that today.
Uh you know is looking forward to next week, as
I think all of us are. And I know that
on the uh the on the chat here, uh somebody
says or Kurt says. Sick made a point to suggest
how Vanilla I as you was, what do we look
(25:12):
for in Illinois that could be a more challenging offense
and what we've seen talent aside talking scheme and what
Illinois likes to do. They run a lot of RPOs,
they run a lot of uh play action stuff. They
play with a little bit of tempo and uh that
is something that Indiana had problems with against Kennesas State.
And you could bet that ILLINOI saw that and they're
(25:35):
going to play fast. They're going to play fast next
week and uh that's okay. You know, Indiana better be ready.
At least they got a chance to see it at
this point and have have been through it, so we'll
see if how they they perform under that. But that
is going to be it's Indiana is going to have
to really be focused on making sure that they keep
(25:56):
plays in front of them, that everybody does their job,
and that they trust one another. And that's a game
like this, being able to win seventy three to nothing
is really really important. Eight one, two, three, nine three,
twenty six hundred is the number the lines are open.
John says they made a big deal when they recruited
ja Jab BOYD. Does he get to play at all?
(26:18):
Ja jab played today and play got to tackle in
the fourth quarter as a solo stop, so at least
he was out there. He was playing and he'll continue
to get playing time. But you got to earn your spot,
and there's there's plenty of talent here. Spencer says, I
need to find out exactly where you are after the game.
I've looked several times and haven't been able to find you.
Love your show, Spencer. We're on the north side of
(26:39):
Assembly Hall. That's a tennis center right behind me there.
You can see it better in the daylight. I'm right
by the doors, the main doors to it. I'm sitting
here by myself. Cops are over there. But a good
thing and whatever's happening is isn't over over here, So
that was good. So please come visit me if you're
in the parking lot now walking by. I got a
microphone here. I'm all about you guys coming by and
(27:02):
saying hi.
Speaker 10 (27:04):
Z.
Speaker 2 (27:04):
Paulson says, if we played all FCS teams, we could
be really good. Well, no, our talent level would go
down over time, but I mean with this roster, yeah,
we dominate.
Speaker 1 (27:15):
You're right.
Speaker 2 (27:16):
Irish for Life says coach Knight would play teams that
are very good at X but not great a team overall.
They prepared his teams for better teams than with those
same strengths they play later. And that's exactly where we
are today because this is a team that plays with
a lot of tempo and was able to, uh to
you know, take care of things against Kennesas State, and
(27:42):
they were able to to be able to learn some
lessons there with that ze Paul's and says coach Knight's
scheduling when unfortunately eve him out of the n C
doua a turning. Now you better go back and look
at some of those skeeds because it was you know,
(28:02):
he played in tough teams and he beat tough teams,
but he also played some cupcakes along the way. He's
been fired for a quarter century, so it is something
to remember. Phil Donahue, which I'm guessing isn't the real
Phil Donahue, mainly because I think he's dead, so that
would suggest that he's probably not on my chat, says
(28:24):
Proud of the squad tonight. Statement Win. I agree with
that about it being a statement Win in that as
it looks like I as you, I think, is pulling
away in their team. That's if you hear sirens in
the background, that's what that is.
Speaker 10 (28:41):
This is.
Speaker 2 (28:44):
A statement win because of the fact that Indiana showed
up locked in play. You know, the opponent matters, and
I see David in the chat also says this game
was like IU hoops playing Mary and great to help confidence,
that's all. Yeah, that's that is part of the equation
and for sure, but in this game, you want to
build some momentum, some plenty of confidence going into the
(29:07):
Illinois game.
Speaker 1 (29:08):
They did just that, and that's really important.
Speaker 2 (29:10):
I'm gonna co Ed and kind on over to our
collar caller if I can have your name, where you're from, and.
Speaker 1 (29:15):
What you got.
Speaker 6 (29:18):
Let's just.
Speaker 1 (29:21):
How you doing good, t Bone, how you doing?
Speaker 10 (29:26):
I am doing all right, I tell you what. Just
leaving the game, got stuck in some Bloomington traffic, but
finally on our way out of town and uh yeah,
you have to look out. I think that's the game
I needed to see that team play heading into next week.
Speaker 1 (29:43):
A little nervous.
Speaker 10 (29:44):
About some of the backup what you saw on the
fourth quarter, but I will say that I thought Wilson
did a great job when he got back, when he
got in there his quarterback, and I think he made
a strong pace to be the number two tonight.
Speaker 4 (29:58):
What are your thoughts if.
Speaker 2 (29:59):
Well, he went one to one for five yards, so
you know, you could you could any kind of moving
up in that isn't going to happen in a game.
It's Mendoza as you're backup right now. But I was
happy at least to see him get some playing time
and get a little bit of opportunity because depth is
incredibly important.
Speaker 7 (30:18):
With that.
Speaker 10 (30:20):
Well Ken, you know, you can look at the pats,
but I thought he commanded that off then with like
like a vet brendon. So I appreciated that, you know,
we it was good to see him get out there.
Speaker 4 (30:33):
What's the word on bebie.
Speaker 10 (30:34):
It looked like he got hurt there.
Speaker 4 (30:35):
Huh.
Speaker 2 (30:36):
Yeah, it was a non contact thing, and that's always
your big concern. He got hurt on the cut his
leg kind of flex so you know, they said that
they're going to find out Monday or Tuesday. Kurt didn't
really have an update yet, but it's a concern to
say the least. And it's a shame because he's he's
I like the way he runs, I like the way
that he finishes runs, and so hopefully it's not as
(30:59):
bad as h as you know, it kind of appeared
but he did grab his knee right away. I will
say that he kind of was walking and trying to
bounce on it a little bit as he was heading
into the tent. So fingers crossed.
Speaker 10 (31:11):
Yeah, fingers crossed for sure. You know, we've been thin
at safety and that'll be a problem we continue to
have to address the season. Linebackers seemed that, you know,
I've got some concerns there. You know, I'm glad that
we were able to hold on to the shutout tonight,
but we've seen pretty thin there too as well. Well.
Speaker 1 (31:34):
I mean, I won't go that far.
Speaker 2 (31:35):
I mean, yeah, you know, you don't want to get
too many guys banged up, But you know, I was
happy to see that they didn't have any kind of
real big busts on the entire day. Opponent matters, and
I'm not saying that it doesn't, but you know the
fact that Indiana State had one chunk passing player to
pick up a more than fifteen yards against Knasas State,
(31:55):
Indiana got gashed a couple of times, and so the
fact that that was a the one chunk play they
got on the day in both the run or the
pass game came in the fourth quarter when you had
all backups in the very least. I thought that was,
you know, encouraging because that's one of those things you
saw if you wanted to see everything that you could
(32:16):
see out of this, not giving up any big plays
or making big mistakes I think was important in Indiana
did that.
Speaker 10 (32:24):
It was huge, and you know, for those guys to
get out there and hold on to the cutout tonight,
have to be super proud of them. Can't wait for
next week. I think that the Memorial Stadium is just
going to be absolutely rocking. It'll be an electric atmosphere.
Speaker 2 (32:39):
I agree, I agree, I agree. It's going to be
fun and it's exciting. It's exciting, it's it's it's a
fun time to watch them. Indiana Football. Thanks so much
for give me a call.
Speaker 10 (32:49):
Whoa Hey, thanks a bunch, Ken. We appreciate you. You
take care, Take care.
Speaker 2 (32:54):
Eight one, two, three, nine three, twenty six hundred is
the number. Got another caller on the line. David here says,
says statement one. One can't be against lesser competition. Agree
to disagree. I understand where you're coming from there, David,
But you know the fact is is that when you
(33:14):
schedule these games. We want to be able to blow
them out and just have a huge game. In Indiana
did just that, So at least I I hear what
you're saying, I really do. But to me, you play
who's in front of you, and Indiana dominated the team
that was in front of them. Eight one, two, three,
nine three, twenty six is the number. Here's our next
(33:36):
color color for your name, where you're from, and what
you got.
Speaker 4 (33:42):
They can did Nick from Nobles Bill drive back from
the game to night and several observations looked at the
top score on the defense.
Speaker 10 (33:55):
It's interesting.
Speaker 4 (33:55):
I think there were twenty seven total defensive players in
the game. The only one that didn't record the tackle
Fincher tail Kamara. I just thought that was interesting that
he literally was not even on the tackle. It's just
kind of strained now I realized, I don't think and
he had a stately you know, didn't ran all that
(34:18):
run to all that big plays. I think the total
number of tackles mixed three or four the leading tackler.
But it's interesting that he continues to just not really
have a lot of time.
Speaker 2 (34:29):
Yeah, he had a pass breakup in this one, and
that that's it. I didn't have a tackle, but I
will say this, U Kamara did a great job of
flushing quarterback out of the pocket a couple of times.
Didn't really get uh the the tackles, but they were
running away from him a little bit. Now, you definitely
(34:49):
want to see him go ahead and pick up some stats.
But if you could have one of your best defensive
players not record a tackle and you win seventy three
to nothing and dominate, you're you're doing all right again.
Opponent matters, and I'm not discounting that, but uh, yeah,
you you do want to see a guy be uh
just you know, just a little bit more active. But
(35:10):
I I expect we're gonna hopefully see a different guy
next week.
Speaker 4 (35:16):
Yeah, I agree. I think that's where, you know, hopefully
starting in Big ten play. And obviously he's kind of
dialed up.
Speaker 10 (35:25):
I know he wanted to.
Speaker 4 (35:26):
Obviously break the Indiana tack record and that's probably a
real tough challenge at this point going into Game four
with only one I think, man, But you know, also,
you know really really didn't wanting to see you know,
the thing with Beast Wow, I mean, you know, behind
the second offensive line everything else, you know, Kobe Martin
(35:49):
leading rusher looked looked really good. So there's still an
opportunity for a three hundred you know, preheaded monster if
you went on the running back room, even if even
if is going to be out for a while.
Speaker 2 (36:02):
Yeah, there's the definitely some talent there, and that that
makes a a a huge difference, uh, just because you
could keep keep reloading, keep guys fresh, and so hopefully
that's something that they're going to be able to, uh continue,
And I'd be interested see what what a guy like
Barton could do against some of the uh the better
offensive lineman. But uh, you know, he's had one hundred
(36:24):
yards tonight was was did a did a great job
and was productive. And I would the one that I
want to see more from his roman him beat because
I think he's a he's a good running back. But
he hasn't really popped yet.
Speaker 4 (36:39):
Yeah, I think he only had three or four carries
for twenty five yards obtuly.
Speaker 2 (36:44):
Yeah, which is a six point three average. But you know,
and so you want to try to keep him healthy.
But yeah, he hasn't really popped one yet or really
like really stood out as much as you hope.
Speaker 1 (36:54):
But by the same token.
Speaker 2 (36:55):
You know, Elijah Surron had three catches for twenty three
yards today. Uh, and you know you you wanna say
you want to protect your stars in a game like
this for sure?
Speaker 4 (37:08):
Yeah, I again. I mean it's interesting Conca Debti runs
these teams and run the games.
Speaker 7 (37:18):
You know.
Speaker 4 (37:19):
I think there's a lot that's that's you know, still
to be known and as far as you know how
they're going to go about game planning and whatnot. I mean,
I trust this coaching staff. They've obviously there's no reason
not to. I Nson still have signed and I can't
wait for next to the team. You know, you do
(37:39):
a great job with the show. They're trying to let
everyone in the first one I've able to kind of
drive back and wanted to call in. But thanks for
everything you do.
Speaker 7 (37:49):
And uh, I hope, I don't.
Speaker 4 (37:51):
I know next week is going to just be absolutely
awesome and places will be electric, and I just got
to make sure. I think I heard his stats that
when they play next week, is it potentially the first
game with both teams in terms of the highest rating
or something.
Speaker 10 (38:08):
I don't know.
Speaker 4 (38:08):
I thought there was gonna be sort of potential there
where it's the first is of oreal based on the
number of the teams in the.
Speaker 10 (38:16):
Rank I have.
Speaker 2 (38:18):
I have no idea about that, but I bet you
that we're going to be hearing plenty about it beforehand.
I tell you right now. So I thank you so
much for the call. I really appreciate it. Thank you
very much, man, right, take care? Yeah, thanks a great night,
you too, hey. One two, three nine three, twenty six
hundred is the number. A little little discussion on the
(38:39):
chat here from people talking about concerns about Signetti leaving
after this year. If Indiana continues to be as good
as they are, I would be really surprised at this point.
If this is the situation where he would want to
go somewhere else and start over, you know, you want.
He's in the Big ten, He's proven that he could
(39:01):
win at a very high level here, went to the
College football Playoff last year. Is recruiting well, it's paid well,
He's in his sixties. Another move might not be something
that he wants to do as a person, And money
can only you only need so much money. And Indiana
(39:24):
is paying him well. And you know, to me, I
think that this I would be surprised with that. But
We'll see how everything plays out, and it'll be very
interesting see how I'll go. Eight one, two, three, nine three,
twenty six hundred is the number. I'm gonna be right
here next week against Illinois after the game. So if
(39:45):
the parking lot is going to be packed, and if
I'm willing to sit out here by myself in the
dark right now, I certainly will stick around and hopefully
be able to have people stop by. I'm out here
with the speaker. You could hear what I'm saying if
you're just staying and buy.
Speaker 1 (40:00):
So there's that. Phil says he's in his sixties. I
didn't know that.
Speaker 2 (40:05):
Are we cooked? When he'll be retired in three years?
Then what you don't know? You know how long he
wants to coach? I am, I know he's in his sixties.
Let me check his exact age on this. He is
sixty four years old. He's now fourteen and two.
Speaker 1 (40:23):
As a I you head coach.
Speaker 2 (40:26):
The sixty four you know is is the one thing
that has always kind of been a pause for me,
because you want somebody who is you know if he
was forty four, you'd feel a lot better. Well, what
I've always said is that an IU football coach that
could take a team from point A to point B
and then be able to hand it over and make
it just a really attractive job is really important. I
(40:50):
felt Terry Hepner was had the ability to do that,
but obviously he didn't get the opportunity to do that,
so being able to, you know, if he he could.
You know, he's sixty four, but he could coach for
another five, six seven yet, however long that he wants to.
As long as he continues to move. All of a sudden,
Indiana is a far more attractive place. Eight one, two, three,
(41:12):
nine three, twenty six hundred is the number. We got
another caller on the line, caller, if I could have
your name, where you're from, and what you got?
Speaker 10 (41:21):
Dave from Cocomo, Hey, Dave.
Speaker 1 (41:23):
How you doing.
Speaker 10 (41:24):
I'm doing well. I just thoughted to give you a
heads up. In my mind, this is a nice win
and expected win. But you've got a kind of temperate
in the sense. And I don't mean that sound mean
you weren't really playing anybody. No, I mean it's like
the the matters fall state. You know, you play who's
on the schedule. Totally get that and agreed with your
comment that hey, you know you have you have to
(41:46):
be who you play that said, I think I think
we'll know what this team is really about against Illinois
and Iowa. Illinois being that it's an extremely good opponent
at home, and then of course your first road game
against a confident opponent as well. Those are our real
statements coming up. This is the equivalent of what you
(42:07):
had to do, and you did what you had to
do and you got through it with no injuries. So
I mean that part's great and you look good, but
the reality is simple, and that is that's what you
should have looked like. So I mean, to me, it's
the equivalent of you get an A in a class
that is super easy versus the class that you have
(42:28):
to study at.
Speaker 2 (42:28):
I understand that. What by that same token again, I've
seen an Indiana team that has struggled in these games,
and so shaking off that those bad feelings is really important.
But if you're playing a Indiana state, you sure the
hell better beat them seventy three to nothing, and they've
done just that.
Speaker 5 (42:48):
And with Illinois, you're a spot on, Oh where do
you go?
Speaker 1 (43:00):
Can he still hears Dave? You're still on?
Speaker 4 (43:10):
Dave?
Speaker 2 (43:10):
So if we could hear from you, that'd be great.
All right, hopefully Dave's still on there. I'm wondering if
there's some kind of problem that we're have.
Speaker 10 (43:23):
Hopefully offenses are And as you pointed out, you did
a nice job of pointing out the difference or how
Illinois may be similar to the last game versus this one,
And I think it's important that yes, we're good for
us to see before you get to somebody like in Illinois.
(43:43):
But the other part is we just haven't had yet
real competition, so it's going to be interesting to see
what we're like.
Speaker 2 (43:49):
And I hope that they say, well, yeah, and but Illinois,
I'm not questioning you know. What I'm saying is that
Illinois they opened with Western Illinois and beat them fifty
two to three, so they're kind of in the same boat.
They played Duke last week, which is a little bit
of a step up over what Indiana has, but they
haven't exactly been playing Alabama and Ohio State either, So
(44:14):
but I understand exactly what you're saying.
Speaker 1 (44:16):
It's going to be a great game in both teams.
Speaker 2 (44:18):
I think looked at this game from the start as
being one of them that they really could be the
measuring stick game.
Speaker 3 (44:27):
All right.
Speaker 2 (44:27):
I think that we may have lost Dave there, and
I apologize for that, but eight one, two, three, nine three,
twenty six hundred is the number. Hopefully we are still
rolling here. I don't know what the hell's happening here again.
I got this Starlink satellite thing. Is this supposed to
(44:49):
say solve all the problems that I have previously had
and it still seems to be not sketchy. But I
just would really like to be able to to have
less of these little dropouts. Man, I'm doing what I can.
I don't know what more I could do. Eight one, two, three,
nine three twenty six hundred is the number, Dave, Thanks
(45:10):
so much for the call.
Speaker 1 (45:11):
I really appreciate that. David.
Speaker 2 (45:15):
David Kane on the chat says you mentioned himby hasn't
popped IU offensive line hasn't looked great through the tackles.
Will be interesting to see with real competition. Absolutely. Uh yeah, Phil,
I am on on starlink. Yeah, that is that is
what I'm what I'm running with here. I got one
of these to try to try to smooth things out here,
(45:36):
and hopefully that'll be something that we don't have problems
with because I hate technical problems. I hate it an
awful lot. India had a seventy three to nothing winners
at against Indiana State. The Hoosiers completely dominated this thing
from the opening kickoff, rolled down the field time and
(45:59):
time again. If I'm not mistaken, did Indiana punt? Yeah,
they punted once for fifty seven yards, so that was it.
Otherwise it was just pure domination. And obviously you had
touchdowns galore. Ten touchdowns on the day, seven passing touchdowns,
(46:21):
five from Fernando Benoza, two from Alberto Mendoza. You had
three rushing touchdowns, two of them by Kobe Martin eleven
carries one hundred and nine yards.
Speaker 1 (46:35):
You had.
Speaker 2 (46:37):
Kaylon Black he finishes the game with seven carries for
sixty eight yards, as has a very nice outing. Indiana
basically just dominated this thing every step of the way,
which is exactly what you want to see on a
Friday night against a team like like in like Indiana State.
(46:58):
They won two, three, three, twenty six hundred is the number.
Uh I just there continues to be this discussion in
the chat about how long uh Signetti might coach and
all that. Again, the key to remember here is you
want Indiana to be an attractive job. But I'm not
gonna worry about that right now. Right now, we worry
(47:21):
about this season and what we're dealing what we're dealing
with this season, and uh, you know the fact, if
if people were gonna come and do anything last last
year might have been that issue. But that isn't where
we're at. It's it's just it's not a it's not
a real discussion right now.
Speaker 1 (47:43):
We're in season. We can't worry.
Speaker 2 (47:45):
This is Indiana fans being Indiana fans that we're not
used to having nice things. Nice things are taken from
us all the time, and uh, we're skittish about it.
It makes sense. I mean, hell, I'm in a lump.
I know how that works. Eight one, two, three, nine, three,
twenty six. Kurt says, is he gonna leave chatter is
(48:07):
silly at Game four. I agree completely, And you know,
we we have had a lot of very Uh we've
had a lot of success over during the Kurt Signetti
times and hopefully it'll continue next week. Is a great
measuring stick for this for this program because last year
(48:29):
was last year and we saw what they could do
Illinois again is more of a Pierce school as far
as I'm concerned, both teams have very good coaches. Kurt Signetti,
you know, hey, if you said this before, this broadcast.
Speaker 1 (48:42):
Was pretty simple, I win. Google me tough to argue
with that. Have have to argue with that.
Speaker 2 (48:49):
David says, cutting in and out a lot. I don't
know if it's the camera or what is that That
that to me is a bit of a concern. I
know people have wanted to see I don't. I understand
it might be more engaging to watch and listen to
with that, But first off, I got a face for radio. Second,
you know, if it creates issues, I got my starlink
(49:09):
and I would love to have a producer somebody be
able to do this, but I'm out here myself. Kurt says,
UCLA's looking phenomenal. Should be a tough matchup. I haven't
checked what the score is on that. Look, the Big
Ten is tough. The Big Ten is very difficult, and
you know you got to bring it every week Indiana.
(49:33):
Everybody said that. You know, last year Indiana didn't play anybody.
They went through Big Ten. You're playing tough here? Did
you belong in the College of Football Playoff at the
start of the year. Shit, we didn't didn't know who
you know, nobody expected to start the way it did.
Indiana has lost two games in its last sixteen outings.
Speaker 1 (49:54):
I think it is.
Speaker 2 (49:58):
You say, Okay, Kurt was being facetious there and I
saw that it was seven nothing. But I'm not watching
the game. But that doesn't change. In fact, Big ten
is tough.
Speaker 1 (50:07):
It is. That's how it is.
Speaker 2 (50:10):
Eight one to two, three, nine, three, twenty six hundred
is the number. Last call for phone for falls want
to hear from you? Uh to me going into next week.
You want to see a couple of things, and I'll
start with just the fans. Students got into the game
on time today. UH want to see them there at
(50:34):
the start, at the opening kickoff, like you, and I
think that they will. I think that that is going
to start changing when you have your Big ten opponents
coming through where people are coming and getting their butts
in the seats before the game.
Speaker 1 (50:45):
You need that energy.
Speaker 2 (50:47):
You can't wander in. Eventually, this is a big game
and hopefully people and including the alumni are going to
be there at the start of the game. You know,
if you you wandered in late for Indiana State. I
understand it. It's it's a Friday night. I understand that
you're coming out from work. But next week you better
be there night game. You got plenty of time to
(51:08):
get here. It's it's it's gonna be an important one.
So you want to see that. You want to see
Indiana get off to a strong start. You want to
see the Hoosiers be able to uh to establish themselves
at the line of scrimmage. That was something I felt
that Indiana didn't do a good job of against Old
(51:28):
Dominion a couple of weeks ago. Obviously, the past couple
of weeks the opponent has been a little bit of
a lower level. But you, you damn well better be
ready to play. You better be ready to go when
it is time to uh to run and and when
when the ball is kicked, because you got to be
(51:49):
ready for it.
Speaker 1 (51:50):
You just have to be.
Speaker 2 (51:52):
So, Phil says, his starlink is no bueno. I'm not
sure what I shouldn't what I could do about it.
I really can learned about it. We'll work on it,
try to get it better. Close enough to the tennis center,
I could just hook and I use a connection too.
Great part about Assembly Hall is I could his hard
(52:12):
wire in, but football a little bit different. So again,
final score seventy three to nothing. Indiana dominates on a
Friday night. Thrilled to see it, and now you have
to come back and the challenge gets a lot harder
for the next several weeks. Kyle says his next Saturday,
(52:33):
the biggest IU home game ever. Winner gets a top
ten ranking, Loser tumbles in the polls can't wait. Biggest
IU home game ever.
Speaker 4 (52:42):
Now?
Speaker 2 (52:43):
Probably not, but I have to look going to be
the biggest one in a long time.
Speaker 1 (52:52):
I can tell you that. We'll see. But it's exciting,
it's exciting, and it's exciting.
Speaker 2 (52:58):
Time to be an I You fan. Seventy three nothing
is the final. We'll be able to see you out
here next week and uh with more of the Pigs
post game live when we'll be able to talk about
a four in oh Indiana team or talk about how
this team has to bounce back. I hope they go
(53:23):
out there and they beat Illinois. That's not the journalist
thing to say, but the alum, the iye you guy
in me says, I want to see it, So we
will see what's all the time we have on the
Peaks post game Live. Want to thank you for listening.
I want a mind to visit peaks dot com for
the very best and IU football and basketball covered. You're
going to find anywhere nobody covers who's recruiting better than
(53:44):
Jeff rab John's, Matt Weaver, Trevor Anderschock and Jared Kelly.
So got to be a part of a thriving and
exciting community at peaks dot com. Folks, you are not
going to be disappointed. Folks are out of time.
Speaker 1 (53:55):
What for now?
Speaker 2 (53:56):
And for Jeff, Matt, Trevor and Jared, I'm Ken Mikoff saying,
and thanks for listening, everybody.
Speaker 1 (54:09):
Mm hmm
