Speaker 1 (00:09):
Are you doing.

Speaker 2 (00:10):
Everybody on ten bike off and welcome to the Peaks
Postgames Live Indiana Homecoming thirty eight to thirteen winners over
Michigan State on a game that was delayed by some
lightning that that it continues to rain real, real heavily here.
I want to first off start by just thanking I

(00:30):
you for allowing me to saving me from the rain
essentially because it is coming down really heavily, and I
really appreciate them giving me some space here high Top
Memorial Stadium to be able to bring you the show.
Eight one two, twenty six hundred is the number to
talk about this ballgame. The Hoosiers got off to a

(00:51):
bit of a slow start, but stepped on the gas.
We're able to go ahead and roll and Indiana was
able to dominate. Eight one, two, three, nine three twenty
six hundred. The Hoosiers are seven and oh on the season.
UH and UH with Miami of Florida losing yesterday, by

(01:13):
all rights, should be the number two team in the
country when the rankings come out on Monday. I've been
very clear about how I'm not a big huge fan
of rankings, but it is what it is.

Speaker 3 (01:25):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (01:25):
We already got caller on the line, so let's go
ahead and get right to him. Caller, if you have
your name, where you're from, and what you got Ken.

Speaker 1 (01:35):
I'm Hooparazi's favorite bartender. Love to smoke a celebratory cigar
with you to night. Hey, how about them hoosiers night?

Speaker 2 (01:45):
What could you say about him? I mean it just
you exp you know it just it just continues to
roll in such a big way. Indiana scores on every
possession save for one, and even on that one on
fourth down, they were a quarter inch away from a
touchdown on that one. It's just it's just it's an
incredible job.

Speaker 1 (02:06):
Hey, it is.

Speaker 2 (02:06):
Hey, Ken, what if I told you deny it that
Mendoza would have the same amount of incompletions as he
did touchdowns?

Speaker 1 (02:13):
What would you think about that? Yeah?

Speaker 3 (02:15):
You know what?

Speaker 2 (02:15):
That that is absolutely incredible to Mendoza twenty four, twenty eight,
three thirty two and four tuddies. Uh and again it
could have been five. It's just by by a quarter inch.
It's really really incredible.

Speaker 1 (02:28):
Absolutely, you know, we we still we lived in ther backfield.
We lived in it. But I don't I don't think
this is an aggressive night as what we were last week,
which I understand that you didn't have to be, but
unbelievable seven and oh just think two three and a half,
three years ago we were all sitting here talking about

(02:49):
just getting to a bowl, you know, and look at
us talking twelve.

Speaker 2 (02:55):
And oh, well you know where again, I on the
callin showed that I did Monday night. It took me
until fifty minutes five, zero minutes into the show to
mention the fact that Indiana was Bowl eligible. And there
was a time not so long ago that we were
hunting for six wins and now you know it is
it has been so impressive that you don't even really

(03:16):
notice that they are Bowl eligible. It is different times
here at IU, to say the least. Uh, just an
unbelievable atmosphere. You know a lot of people left at
halftime due to the weather, which this one I understand
because it was some bad weather. But boy, this is
a hell of a game. This is something that it

(03:36):
was really really impressive to watch.

Speaker 1 (03:39):
It's beautiful, wasn't it. Yeah?

Speaker 3 (03:41):
Yeah, right.

Speaker 1 (03:42):
We appreciate everything you do, man, listen to you religiously,
and we set up today real close to you so
we could get there tonight and just talk to you live.
But we had to leave clause of well we just
now left.

Speaker 2 (03:55):
Well yeah, anyway, yeah, there was there was no way
I was going to be I was concerned about this
before the game started, and we're just looking at the
weather report about doing this outside, but really really really
happy Indiana was able to get this win.

Speaker 1 (04:09):
Well, I'll tell you what, We're going to be back
up here with the Wisconsin games. So maybe we'll hook
up next to you and have one in cigars on
all you like.

Speaker 2 (04:17):
That sounds great. I appreciate it. So yeah, take care.
Eight one, two, three, nine three, twenty six hundred is
the number. And the Hoosiers, you know, come out a
little bit slow out of the first quarter. They led
seven to three after one quarter, but then they just
started stacking wins, the wins on the field, I should say,

(04:41):
stacking wins at to where drive after drive after drive.
You know, Indiana's offense four hundred and sixty four yards
on the day, three hundred and thirty two yards passing
one hundred and thirty two yards running Kaylon Black ten
carries for sixty four yards. And this is something that
we can't overlook is the fact that Indiana is getting
the job done offensively without relying too much on any

(05:05):
one guy. It makes it so difficult to cover this
team because Kaylon Black ten carries sixty four yards, Kobe
Martin four of six carries forty yards, Roman Henby six
carries eleven yards. Cooper eight carried eight receptions for one
hundred and fifteen yards and a touchdown.

Speaker 3 (05:23):
EJ.

Speaker 2 (05:23):
Williams five catches for fifty nine yards and a touchdown.
Sarat four catches seventy yards a couple of touchdowns. I mean,
it's just really, who are you gonna cover, who you're
gonna take care of? And then defensively, Look, Indiana now
on the season is seven to zero. They have allowed
six offensive touchdowns on the season. This is the fourth

(05:46):
time Indiana has held the team to I believe it is. Well,
they got to thirteen, so it's gonna be ten fourth
time this year that they got to ten or fewer
points on the On the game, you had the late
field goal with screwed some people that were gambling, but
you know, and got the spread at the wrong time.
But well, I tell you what, this is an IU

(06:08):
football team that came to play and a little bit
of a slow start, a little bit of a different
kind of pass coverage, and I think that we've seen before.
Michigan State did throw for two hundred and forty three yards,
stacked some long drives early. If you look at the
scoring drives, the first couple that Michigan State had thirteen

(06:28):
carries for fifty five yards, took up six minutes and
fifty three seconds. Second possession for Michigan State twelve carries
for seventy five yards and took up eight minutes in
eighteen seconds. So the Hoosiers made Michigan State battle for it,
but they were able to take care of business. And
that is what is important. Because Indiana's offense was as

(06:50):
good as it was. This game turned on two for
one opportunity right before the half. Indiana scored, got the
ball back after halftime, scored again, no control and never
looked back. And that's how you get to seven and
zero eight one, two, three, nine three. Twenty six hundred
is the number. The lines are open. We'll be hearing

(07:11):
from head coach Kurt Signetti in just a little bit
with a new contract extension, and that is something that
uh I can't say enough about how how how great
it is that the Hoosiers were able to get that
job done. All the questions about where Kurt Signette is

(07:33):
going to be, if he's going to be leaving, going
to this school or that school, we could put all
of that to rest. He's going to be at Indiana, Uh,
he says, until he retires, and certainly he has the
contract that's going to pay him like it, like he
deserves it. Uh. And to me, that is uh just
gives such great stability for a program that's so desperately

(07:55):
needed stability. You know, Indiana has gone through coaches every
couple of years basically since I got here to cover
the team, but since Bill Mallory. I mean, you were
bouncing from Cam Cameron to Jerry DeNardo to Terry Happner
who passed away obviously, Bill Lynch, to Kevin Wilson to
Tom Allen. I mean it's just every couple of years

(08:18):
you have a new regime coming in. Signetty's been here
for two years, He's eighteen and two, has yet to
lose at home. Indiana with a thirteen game home winning streak.
They've won a full season and a bull worth of
games consecutively. At home. It's just remarkable, remarkable how this

(08:38):
program has changed and how quickly it has changed.

Speaker 4 (08:43):
Again.

Speaker 2 (08:44):
Eight one, two, three, nine three, twenty six hundred is
the number. Lines are open. I want to hear from you.
In the chat, Robert Schwartz says, any win is a
good win. But MSU sure seemed to be able to
carve out big chunks of yardage they couldn't score as
a saving grace. So we called those Bill Lynch wins
because that's the bend. But don't break hold them to
a field goal. Now that's said. Michigan State only scored

(09:07):
thirteen points, you know, scored on their first two drives
and then were shut down until the very last drive
when they kicked a nothing field goal. So when you're
talking about those kind of things happening, it's hard to
get upset about what it was that Indiana's defense was

(09:28):
going to do. Now that's said, I understand where you're
coming from, because when it comes to chunk plays, Michigan
State had eight of them. Chunk plays are passes for
fifteen plus yards and rushes for ten plus. Only two
ten plus yard runs. One of them is sixty four
yard run by Adrian Chiles, the quarterback for Michigan State.

(09:50):
That happened nearly in the fourth quarter. And then you
have an eleven yard run, but eight passes passing plays
of fifteen plus yards, all of them between fifteen and
twenty two yards or twenty three yards. So they kept
it pretty tight. But still it was an impressive job

(10:13):
by Indiana to keep them out of the end zone.
But again, you know those chunks are there, and actually
Kurtz Signetti said in his postgame press conference that there
are some things that the defense has on tape that
they're not going to be real pleased to see when
the time comes to watch this tape tomorrow and on
Monday and as they prepare for Ucla next week. It

(10:37):
was a complete game by the Hoosiers. Hoosier on the
Chat says Hoosier zero says, it felt like, I you
should have won by fifty. You know, they could have
very easily had forty five points. Missed a touchdown by
a heel and that could have been a fifth touchdown
pass from Fernando Mendoza. Caller earlier had a great point

(11:00):
that Indiana Mendoza had as many incompletions as he did
touchdown passes this year at this game, and this only
reinforces the discussion about him being the leader in the
Heisman Trophy race because he's just doing it week after
week after week and making just you know, incredible throws
accurate as can be. His development has been fantastic to see,

(11:26):
and so as he has continued, it has been really
impressive to see him develop and just the efficiency at
which he works and the growing patience he has in
the pocket. I think is another big part of this
because you know, earlier in the year he had he
was a little bit of happy feet he had there,
but he was He doesn't have that anymore, and he

(11:50):
has been very, very impressive. To say the least, eight one, two, three, nine, three,
twenty six hundred is the number people don't want to
hear from me. I want to hear from you. That's
why we're going to don't don't get content. It's raining
like hell outside. I can tell you that. Before we
talk more about the game and get get a chance

(12:12):
to bring up Kurt Signetti's postgame press conference, I did
want to talk a little bit more about Signette's contract
extension that he received. You know, there have been some
people in the in the media, Paul found fine baumb
in particular, who you know says that Indiana made a

(12:33):
mistake or this was not warranted. And what I will
say about that attitude is anybody who feels that way
about IU football two things. One, they don't know their
ass from their elbow when it comes to Indiana football.
And that their only perspective is Indiana as bad. And
I'm not changing that despite what my eyes show, because

(12:54):
the past two years have been fantastic. You know, he
has earned every damn dime he's He's coached here for
two games and has gotten his second contract extension. So
for a fine Bomb or anybody else who says that
Indiana is jumping the gun on this thing because they
haven't beaten. Whoever which to find Bomb is anybody who's
not in the sec That's that's what he means. He

(13:14):
doesn't know a damn thing about Indiana football. And the
bottom line is Indiana has made an investment in their
future with the guy who could lead them a long way,
and the Hoosiers are gonna benefit from it. It gives
so much just just so much stability, so much stability

(13:37):
for this UH, this program, UH and I think it's uh,
it's gonna be fun to watch.

Speaker 3 (13:44):
To say.

Speaker 2 (13:44):
The least eight one, two, three, nine, three, twenty six
hundred is the number we're gonna be hearing from Kurt
Signetti here in just a few minutes on the chat
uh uh Damn city says uh uh the PTSD Cameron
DeNardo all the way to Alan. That's why, even with sick,
I have to watch until the clock says zero to

(14:07):
celebrate a who's your win? Oh, I get it, I
get it, trust me, there's there's you are. I mean,
it's it's scar tissue. I mean it's just that simple.
It is scar tissue, because that is no other way
to put it. It's scar tissue. Because we've seen some
things over the years and it hasn't always, uh, you know,

(14:27):
been pleasant to watch. To say. The least eight one
is the number. I'm going to bring up Signetti's press
conference here, uh so that you guys could could hear
what he had to say and uh hopefully we'll get
to you on the other side of his presser.

Speaker 5 (14:46):
All right, good win coming off you know that big
road win last week. You know we all uh are
aware of the potential issues you're dealing with there, and
I thought the team and the staff did a good job,
you know, real focusing in on this next opponent and
the challenge that it could present. I thought Michigan State
played really hard and offensively. They've got some weapons, and

(15:10):
our offense was sharp. You know, we were throwing the football, Fernando, uh,
you know, it was on point. Protection was good, Receivers
were separating making plays and you know, the defense held
them to a field goal there at the end of
the second quarter drive before the two minute drives, stopped
them on a two minute drive, and then we punched

(15:31):
that first drive in in a third quarter, which I
felt like if we did that, you know that, you know,
that would be a real blow to them. And defense
really shut them out till the end, where you know,
we kind of emptied the bench a little bit, so
to speak. But it's good win and enjoy it.

Speaker 3 (15:52):
You know, I'm going to enjoy it and get ready
for the next one.

Speaker 6 (15:56):
You talked about, Fernando, And I know every quarterback a
lot always have things to clean up, and I don't
think you did exact Today's twenty four of twenty eight.
Is that kind of when you watched film of him
what you thought he'd be capable of once he cleaned
up some of the things that you talked about in
the off season, the timing, the comfort, the trust and protection.

Speaker 5 (16:12):
Well, I think it was a really good performance by him.
And you know, Michigan State's giving up some points this year,
let's face it. And you know, he had time and
our guys were separating and he was throwing the ball
on rhythm, and you know he's there's other games like Oregon,
you don't have nearly as much time and you're not

(16:33):
always separating as much. So it's all relative sometimes. But
I would say this is the sharpest you know, we've
seen him up to this point, you know, in a game.
But he continues to improve, He continues to prepare like

(16:54):
nobody I've ever been around, and he's getting better and better.

Speaker 4 (17:00):
In terms of Omar Cooper and Eligis Rot. From an
offensive coach perspective, you know that defenses are gonna try
to game time plan out the focus on them if
you kind of for nearly sixty percent of your targets,
the difficulty level of that for them as receivers to
still get open to still countor those game plans how
difficult is it is what they're doing right now being able.

Speaker 5 (17:17):
To make Well, you know, you can kind of like
focus in on one guy, but it's hard to focus
in on two because you know, if you're three by one,
that guy might be number three, number two, number one
of the field or into the bench and h. So
you can focus in on one guy, but it's really
difficult to focus in on two. But like there's other
guys that make plays like Riley Nokowski, how many big

(17:38):
plays he made in the past game.

Speaker 1 (17:39):
And d J.

Speaker 5 (17:40):
Williams obviously is a threat. And then you know some
of the Charlie Becker's made plays. Uh, Hemby's made some
big plays in the past game. And then you got
to deal with Fernando's feet, you know if he works
up into the pocket. So you can't really focus on
one guy.

Speaker 6 (18:02):
Yeah, coach, Uh, assuming I'm doing math here correctly, Mendo's
a twenty one touchdown.

Speaker 3 (18:06):
At twenty two interceptions. Well, the guy's ratio is like that.

Speaker 6 (18:11):
The reason for it is what and you look at
you know, quarterbacks, you see that level of play and
you think.

Speaker 3 (18:16):
What, well, you know, I think he's doing a good job.
He's smart.

Speaker 5 (18:22):
Uh, he understands how to play quarterback. He before you
win any game, you gotta make sure you don't lose it, right.
And he protects a ball, he checks it down one,
it's not there. He knows when he can take a
sack when he can't take a sack. And and he's
accurate and he's making good reads. So you know, that
only puts him a little bit behind Cole Johnson, my

(18:45):
second quarterback at JMU, who I think was forty four
and four touchdowns interceptions, which would be twenty two and
two You said twenty one and two.

Speaker 3 (18:55):
Yeah, no, but uh he he.

Speaker 5 (18:58):
He keeps building I think on his previous performances.

Speaker 3 (19:04):
And I can't say enough good things about right coach.

Speaker 7 (19:12):
Early on their offense kind of had you guys a
little bit under heels. You know they're getting about the
run of those screenplays got some yards, but you guys
kept them off the scoreboard. Would you like about the
adjustments your team, your defense made as the game went along.

Speaker 5 (19:24):
I thought, near the end of second quarter, will be
really tightened up and in the second half except for
that last drive, and start putting pressure on the quarterback.
And I've always thought they've had they got good design
at Michigan State. Offensively, they can protect with eight seven, six,
five out of pocket game, good screen game, great play
action game. And the quarterbacks is extremely talented. And so

(19:45):
it was number six and so, and I'm sure the
defense will put the tape on the mar and they'll
be displeased with some things early in the game.

Speaker 2 (19:57):
Coach over here, just the way Lou Moore has continued
to play. Right now, he's led you again in tackles.

Speaker 7 (20:03):
Just the way he's played.

Speaker 5 (20:04):
Yeah, I played a lot of football, Levan tackler, interceptions
left us, came back right, and his veteran got knows
for the ball instinct. And I think he's having fun.

Speaker 4 (20:23):
Kurt, when you say Fernando prepares like no one you've
been around, what does that look like like?

Speaker 2 (20:27):
What is he doing during the week that's so above
and beyond in your eyes?

Speaker 5 (20:30):
I think it's time organization and uh, smart use of time,
proper preparation, smart use of time.

Speaker 3 (20:40):
Uh. And you know.

Speaker 5 (20:42):
He wants to be a great player. And you know,
I've had never seen anybody really quite jump into it
like that before.

Speaker 8 (20:54):
On a mentality point, at what point in the week
were you confident that you had your team in the
right spot.

Speaker 5 (21:01):
I think was starting to flip a little bit after Thursday,
after practice, I sent him a good message. I thought
it was flipping our way Friday, you know there were Look,
you can't be a real nice guy when you have
a job like minds, you know what I mean. Sometimes
you know when they're going to be ready to play,

(21:23):
and then sometimes you know the entire organization. Right, what
Mike Skshewski say when he retired, he's the toughest upon
it he's ever faced. Was human nature? Well, human nature
after winn against Oregon is to be happy and relax
and right support staff, coaches, players, right trainers. So you know,

(21:46):
my job is to make sure they got the right
mindset ready to play. And you know it's not always fun,
but you gotta do what you gotta do.

Speaker 1 (21:57):
You've talked a lot about battling through adversity with the
uniqueness of the slightly longer halftime and the weather.

Speaker 4 (22:02):
How do you think your team handled that and came
out in the second half.

Speaker 5 (22:04):
I thought we handled it really well, and the staff
had experience with it.

Speaker 3 (22:07):
At Virginia when I was a GMU.

Speaker 5 (22:09):
My last year, we were down ten with eight minutes ago,
and that happened. We ended up utilizing it, I thought,
really well and came back and won the game.

Speaker 6 (22:20):
I guess you talked about, you know, the defense might
see some things on film, especially earlier in the game,
they didn't love from this game. But I think it's
seven defensive touchdowns you've allowed in eight games. Now, what
is it about that group that whatever the challenge is,
they just kind of outlast opponents. Obviously, sometimes you get
a lot of sacks. Sometimes, like a day like today,
maybe it takes a little longer to kind of figure
it out. But what is it about that group that
just they constantly solved that problem?

Speaker 5 (22:42):
Well, you know, I think first of all, they're well coached,
and they attack people. And we've got a lot of
veteran players, and we've got great leadership, and we've got
good players, and the leaders are really good players. And
we've had young guys sort of developed force I up
front and side, and look at Isaiah Jones development at

(23:02):
linebacker and Hardy besides Fisher, right, And I think the
secondary is really you know, outside of Ponds, you know
who's an All American? Uh, you know, you've seen sharp really
step up and start to make plays in the safeties too.
So there's a lot of pride there and uh, you know,
we got to get better from this last game, right

(23:25):
because the challenges are going to get tougher down the road.

Speaker 2 (23:28):
So there's Kurt Signetti during his postgame press conference. Uh,
you know, SIGs talks a little bit about how his
team wasn't where they want he wanted them to be
mentally until about later in the week. But really that's
what you want your team to be able to lock
in later on. And he gets there and uh, this
this win was important just to overcome, uh the any

(23:52):
kind of idea that there would be a hangover after
that Oregon game because this Hoosier ball club, Uh, you know,
being able to stack success hasn't always been a strength
of Indiana football. And the fact that they are able
to do this and they continue to change that culture
I think is really really important. Eight one, two, three, nine, three,

(24:13):
twenty six hundred is the number again High Top Memorial Stadium.
Really appreciate you give me a chance to get out
of the weather tonight. Otherwise this would have been a
more difficult show to do on the chat JM I
don't know what is that jmcl one fy. He says,
we get a lot of calls on the field now

(24:34):
that we're winning we didn't get before Buck pointed this
out on the radio call. I'm still getting used to
this as a longtime IU football fan. I want to
talk about that very thing because I believe it was
what was the score? It was the score by not Black,

(24:55):
might have been the EJ. Williams score that he was writing.
The first score they looked at and me and Matt
Weaver sitting there watching it that you know, he scored
and I thought, oh, he might be a little bit short,
and they gave Indiana the touchdown. I looked at Weaver
and I'm like, oh my god, it is I you
that that team now that's going to start getting some

(25:16):
of these calls, And that's amazing if it is. Look,
all of this is really really difficult to wrap your
head around all of it. Think about where how far
we've come as fans as an IU football program, from
the end of the Tom Allen era to where IU
football is now. You're talking about a team that just

(25:39):
hunting six wins, six wins for decades, gades, and now
Kurt Signetti comes in twenty games later for a thirteen
game winning streak at home. The head coach has lost
one regular season game to the eventual national champion, only
two games overall. The other game was to the eventual

(26:03):
runner up seven to zero. You have given up six
offensive touchdowns on the season, six in seven games. You're
giving up less than an offensive touchdown per game. Oregon
scores one offensive touchdown, the other one came on a
pick six, and that's it. And two of those offensive touchdowns,

(26:24):
by the way, came against Old Dominion on some early
busts or one on two busts. One I think of
the first half, one I think of the second half.
But that's it. And so quickly Indiana has become a
program that expects to win on Saturdays. And that is completely,

(26:46):
completely a function of Kurt Signetti. That's why again this extension,
the money that makes him the third highest paid coach
in college football worth every damn dime. And then when
it comes to his assistant at this point, guys who

(27:09):
are assistants who might have an opportunity to go forward
and go in and take over as a head coach
at this program or that program, you have to take
a second and think do I really want to do that,
because yeah, you want to move up in your coaching career.
But that said, this is becoming a very very nice destination.
You're getting the resources you wanted. It's pretty nice. Eight one, two, three,

(27:34):
nine three, twenty six hundred is the number.

Speaker 3 (27:38):
Let's see.

Speaker 2 (27:39):
Robert Schwartz said, yeah, you does get more of those
benefited doubt calls that you ignored. You see more penalty
calls that used to be missed. It's a new feeling.
It is all of it is. Indiana on the game.
By the way official stats, the Hoosiers with one penalty
for five yards. Michigan State was called six penalties for

(28:00):
forty six yards. Indi had twenty four first downs on
the day, they were five of eight on third down,
ran six fewer plays than Michigan State, and gained ninety
six Moore yards every time Indiana snapped the ball they
average eight point three yards. Pretty damn good, averaging four
point seven yards of rush and wins the ballgame by

(28:23):
four touchdowns despite the fact they had the ball for
two and a half fewer minutes. Nine tackles for loss
on the day. It's impressive. All of it is impressive,
and it really is in that context of the historical

(28:46):
context that goes into all of this against this very
Michigan State team. I think in two thousand and six,
I watched Indiana throw a ninety eight yard touchdown pass
that resulted in two points for Michigan State because IU
was called for a holding in the end zone prior
to the past. A long way since then, and Indiana

(29:06):
continued to win and continue to progress despite the fact
that you had the rain, you had the lightning delay,
which thankfully wasn't that long, but you had the lightning delay.
That the place didn't deflate. The fans that were still
here were still into it. The Hoosiers didn't feel a

(29:29):
lack of energy and continue to build their own energy.
That was important too, And you heard Signette talk about
how his team dealt with that delay in a little
bit of a different way than maybe they have before.
Just an impressive job by that coaching staff to get
everybody on the same page, and that, to me is

(29:52):
what is so exciting for all of this. You know,
there's some people that have looked at Indiana and are
looking for any reason why, uh, they shouldn't respect what
what is happening here in Bloomington. And you know, as
when when it comes to all of this, what's your

(30:12):
You got to believe your lion eyes. You are seeing
exactly what it is that that can be done when
you have the resources, when you have the uh, the
coaching and everything that goes along with it. You're seeing
what's possible. Eight one, two, three, nine, three, twenty six
hundred is the number. Who's your who's your dash? Zero

(30:34):
says any prediction for the u c l A game time, Uh,
we'll find out Monday, But it really depends on television
and if they want to have uh uh you know
the big College uh you know, new Big noon College
game or whatever it is, which is a possibility, especially
when you're talking about a u c l. A team
that has pulled off some upsets of late uh actually

(31:00):
got to I don't even know what UCLA did yet today. Look,
they're playing Maryland right now. They're up seven to three
in the second quarter, early second quarter, So you have that,
but you know, by the time they they you know,
they play, there's a real possibility, real chance that Indiana

(31:25):
is going to be the number two team in the
country and they should be, because that's how the polls work.
You win, and the team in front of you loses,
you should move up and move to seven and zero.
They got three first place votes last week. Miami got
thirteen of them. Ohio State beat the hell out of
Wisconsin today and so that is not unexpected, but still

(31:49):
they got that done. It'll be interesting to see if
Indiana garners more of these first place votes. Guessing they
might not that a lot of those will just go
to Ohio State because they weren't split with Miami. But
tell you what, Indiana, you set them up. Indiana's gonna
knock him down. And that has been how things have gone.

Speaker 3 (32:12):
You look at.

Speaker 2 (32:14):
You have. This now is the one, two, three, four, five,
six straight game in which Indiana has given up one
or fewer offensive touchdowns in a game. Oregon scored twenty points,
scored one offensive touchdown, had that pick six. Iowa scores

(32:35):
fifteen points, Illinois just ten, Indiana State zero, Kennasas State nine.
It's it's just jaw dropping what Indiana has been able
to to to accomplish this year. Just incredible. Jam Cliffy,

(32:56):
I don't know how do you pronounce that? I didn't
need him. He says, no more Peacock games play. I
got it for the Iowa Michigan state teams, but don't
disrespect number two Indiana and put their games behind a paywall.
You know, everybody's TV does what TV does. You know,
Indiana football may not have the ratings of some of
the bigger programs historically, but I agree with you. You

(33:19):
want to be able to to really build that that
footprint for Indiana and build that that fan base. They're winning,
their fun to watch, and to me, it's a sign
of a new era of college football as well. And
il balances the playing field a little bit and gives

(33:41):
you opportunities that maybe you otherwise wouldn't have had as
a as a team, as a fan base, all of it.
It's it's really incredible. Eight one, two, three, nine, three,
twenty six hundred is the number. I'm gonna admit. I'm
a little surprised we haven't gotten more phone calls tonight

(34:02):
because this has been I mean, you know, it's raining
and all that kind of stuff. I get in and
there are exciting games. Alabama and Tennessee are playing right now.
They're in the first quarter. But when you look at
where the Hoogiers are going over the next couple of weeks.

(34:22):
I got UCLA here next week, then they go on
the road at Maryland at Penn State. The Penn State
game is going to be It's a concern of mine
just because Penn State at some point could just wake up.
But we'll see. If Indiana plays like they did today
and plays the way that they have all season, they're

(34:45):
going to be absolutely deserving of everything that comes their way.
But this is a team tied for first place in
the Big Ten, has a clear path, clear path. They're
going twelve and zero, and that is something that that
is is just incredible, absolutely incredible. Got another collar, coller,

(35:08):
if have your name, where you're from, and what you got?
Are you there a caller?

Speaker 8 (35:21):
Okay, sorry about that, Ken, Okay, oh just praise uh
you can. But living into reality, I think that that
I think for God that we gave them.

Speaker 2 (35:43):
And a real tough time here in your caller. Yeah,
I think we lost him. Yeah we did. Damn all right,
Hopefully he'll call back. Would love to hear from you know,
this is a let's see. Robert Schwartz says, if you're

(36:07):
a certain age, I remember the only time we got
to see how you play was against OSU or Michigan
or if they were playing a highly ranked team. Yeah.
I remember a time, once upon a time where Indiana
played in the old Oak and Bucket game and they
didn't televise it. And it wasn't crazy long ago either,
it was. I mean, well now, hell, agent myself is

(36:28):
probably twenty five years ago. But still that was something
that happened, something that happened, and that is all gone. Now,
all of that has gone. And my question for you
guys is how long until we get used to this?

(36:49):
Do we ever get used to it?

Speaker 1 (36:52):
You know?

Speaker 2 (36:52):
Look, winning at this level is just it's all house money.
I said last year that this was a as good
as it was going to get because they were zero
expectations last year, zero, and everything that happened was new
and exciting. It still feels that way, though, doesn't it

(37:17):
that every week it feels new and exciting and like
something that we haven't seen before, mainly because we really haven't.
This is historic that we're living here, and it is
just so much fun to be a part of and
be on this side of it. You know. Somebody said
in the the chat earlier that the IU coaches that

(37:41):
I mentioned earlier, you know Cam Cameron, Jared DeNardo and
have Bill Lynch, that they all lost some some close
games and they did and that is you know, the
Organ game last week, the Iowa game two weeks ago
are perfect examples of games that in the past asked
Indiana might not have been able to pull out. And

(38:03):
now they've just had the confidence and and win and
go out and knock it out and it's it's really
really uh impressive to watch. Eight one, two, three, nine, three,
twenty six is the number. Certainly hope uh uh, everybody's
being safe going home. We'd love to hear from you.

(38:24):
You don't get some calls, We'll go ahead and we'll
shut this down a little bit earlier. Part of this
too is that you know, a bunch of fans left
at halftime and moved on with their day. To understand completely,
but uh, Robert on the on the chat, don't know
about others, but I still struggle to wrap my head
around all of this. That that is my takeaway is

(38:50):
it's it has been an incredible ride and this is
how the other half has lived for a long time.
And again I mentioned earlier about that path to twelve
and Oho, you had UCLA at home next week. Ucla
obviously has been up and down this year. Trip to

(39:12):
Maryland Maryland four and two, so they're not a pushover.
But Indiana also has been very good. The trip to
Penn State is that trap that I am still looking at.
I'm concerned about. Wisconsin is Wisconsin, but Wisconsin and your
Daddy's Wisconsin. They're zero and four and two and five
on the season. And then you have Purdue, which is

(39:33):
an absolute mess. That game is going to be on
NBC and Peacock on November twenty eighth. That's a Friday game,
So heads up with that? Got another caller, color, if
I can have your name, where you're from, and what
you got?

Speaker 8 (39:47):
Okay, sorry we got cut off early before, but I
was just curious. I know, I've been a couple of years, Carrier. Yeah,
we're playing the paper. Are you making the Ohio State.

Speaker 3 (40:08):
What?

Speaker 8 (40:10):
At some point disappointing championship? Obvious one to be Ohio States,
But what point a French first forty thirty, I mean
obviously we want to bake. I mean, at what point
does it get disappointing? At the Big Big Ten Championship Hip.

(40:32):
It's a crazy question. I know this is pretty silly,
but curious your thoughts.

Speaker 1 (40:37):
At what point do.

Speaker 8 (40:38):
You think it's disappointing if we don't win a Big
Ten Championship game. That's where we're at right now, we're
talking about that. Appreciate your call.

Speaker 1 (40:46):
Thank you.

Speaker 2 (40:47):
I appreciate. That's a little bit hard to hear on
my end, but basically he was. He was saying, you know,
if they end up playing Ohio State in the Big
Ten Championship, at what point does it becomes disappointing if
they don't win that game. He's like, and it's a
crazy concept, but at what point does it become a disappointment?

(41:10):
My answer is this getting to the Big Ten Championship game,
which Indiana absolutely has a path to, is not the goal.
But it's just the next game. And I think that
if you get for this Indiana football program, for them

(41:31):
to get to the Big Ten Championship would obviously obviously
be huge NBA a really really big day because Indiana's
playing Louisville and Indianapolis for basketball that day at two o'clock.
Big Ten Championship game is at eight, so it would
be in Banana's day. What we're at the point now though,

(41:52):
that the Hoosiers are, you know, just rolling over people.
So the next time they lose, and let's face it,
eventually they will lose some time, you know, be it
this year, next year, whenever it is, they will lose,
and that is going to be disappointing because we're, you

(42:12):
got a really good winning streak going right now and
there's a lot of things going very very right for
Indiana football, so it would be disappointing. And it is
bananas to say, you know, just the idea that if
you get there and you don't win it, it'll be
really disappointing. But to me, we're playing with house money
at this point. The goal isn't just to get to

(42:32):
the Big Ten Championship game. And the reason is that
last year you went to the College Football playoffs and
you got experience playing in that environment, and that is
really really important, really really important to be able to
be able to lean on that experience from last year

(42:52):
of playing in the college football playoff. You throw in
the fact that if they would get to the Big
Ten Championship game and if they would be playing Ohio
State again, all very important.

Speaker 3 (43:04):
It's here.

Speaker 2 (43:07):
The one regular season loss that the Hoosiers have faced
under Kurt Signetti to this point was a trip to
Ohio State that Indiana lost thirty eight to fifteen. And
you could bet your ass that Sig would really lean
on that. For the guys that have been here, he
would have them fired up, he would have them there Indiana.

(43:31):
The best part about all of this is Indiana has
played with a huge chip on their shoulders from day
one of the Kurt Signetti era, huge chip on their shoulders,
and it hasn't gone away, nor do I expect it
to go away anytime soon. So it would definitely be disappointing.
You know, as crazy as that is, you get spoiled

(43:52):
real quick. But you see the path, you see the excitement,
and to me, that's what is really exciting. Te nine
three twenty six hundred is the number Roberts says here again.
The sixty seven Rolls Bowl, the seventy nine Holiday Bowl,
Mallory's run, Tom Allen's win over Penn State and Michigan
until now, those were the bright spots I remember. Well. Look,

(44:13):
last year was without question the best season in IU
football history. Yeah, the forty five team went undefeated. Yeah,
you had the Rose Bowl season. Forty five team didn't
have face masks. It's not modern football. Sixty seven they
tied for a Big Ten championship and got to go
to the Rose Bowl because Purdue had gone the year before.

(44:34):
So last year was the best. This is shaping up
to be even better. We got another caller, caller to
have your name where you're from?

Speaker 9 (44:41):
And Hey, Ken, this is Ryan from Bloomington. How you doing, Hey, Ryan,
how are you doing? I'm not too bad, man. I
got a question for you and it involves Omar Cooper
and Elijah Surratt. You know, I think they've got to
be considered the the best wide receiver duo in the

(45:03):
Big Ten, if not all of college football. And I
just want to know your thoughts on how they compliment
each other number one and also number two, if you
think they are both either Day one or Day two
draft picks coming up at the end of this year.

Speaker 2 (45:17):
Yeah, that's a great question, you know, first off, in
terms of how they compliment each other, what they really
do between the two of them and the E. J. Williams,
The fact that they are both on the field and
can do so much with the ball in so explosive,
it really stresses a defense because you can't concentrate on

(45:38):
any one guy because sarat gets, you know, one hundred
and twenty one yards or whatever you had against Oregon
last week, and then you have Cooper with eight catches
for one hundred and fifteen yards today. I mean, we'll
pick your poison on that thing. And so that compliment
is really really impressive. The fact that they've been able
to do what they have been able to do with

(46:00):
different quarterbacks has been really important as well, because last
year it was Curtis Rourke and they were both very effective.
This year, Mendoza has been playing out of his mind.
So there's that, and I really think that their draft
stock will just continue to grow as they build. Both
of them have proved that they are big time players

(46:21):
who can make big time catches when they need it,
and so you know, they've been playing a long time,
plenty of film on them. They're explosive. I really think
both of them have that opportunity A lot of the
times when you're talking about Day one or Day two
draft picks, how they work out, how they go through
their pro day, all of that kind of stuff. Matters

(46:43):
as well. But just on the field tape, I think
that they've done quite a bit to raise the eyebrows
of scouts.

Speaker 1 (46:51):
For sure. Man.

Speaker 9 (46:51):
I mean, I think Signetti said it really well. He
was talking about in that postgame press conference like you
had on earlier, saying, you know, it's hard enough to
focus on one really good receiver, but when you have
two of them, that's really just about impossible to uh
to defend against. And you know, just super happy to

(47:12):
have him on the team. But one more thing is
I just got to say, super excited for the Maryland
post game, man, that that should be a lot of fun.

Speaker 2 (47:20):
Yeah, we're gonna We're gonna have a lot of fun
with that. I'm really really looking forward to that. We're
gonna have a special edition of the Peak's Post Game Live,
a lot of special guests, including probably you when you
for sure, if you, if you want so. I'm looking
forward to, uh uh to having it on. You know
you mentioned again uh Cooper and and Surat On the

(47:40):
touchdown pass to Williams in the first quarter, Mendoza had
two different options on that because Cooper was open as
well Williams was open, or he could have tucked it
and ran it and his legs, Mendoza's legs. All of
this puts so much stress on a defense and that's
why Indiana has just been so tough to defend.

Speaker 9 (48:00):
Sure does Man, thanks for thanks for doing the show
as always, have a good night.

Speaker 2 (48:05):
Appreciate it. Ryan, thanks a lot, love the phone calls.
Eight one, two, three, nine three, twenty six hundred is
the number, Jam says, uh, I hope it's not too
too much success too soon. How will our fan base
react to eight and four, nine and three seasons? We
play OSU, Michigan and other top teams and we lose

(48:26):
some close games before SIG six wins was a success
at IU. Yeah, no, that's that's part of it. But
that's why you coach it, right, That's it to raise
those expectations. That's what you're shooting for. So yeah, I
mean it's a good question. And you know next year nine. Hell,
we are seven games in it this year with a
lot of football left to be played. But when you're

(48:48):
talking about the future, Indiana and Kurt Signetti have shown
that they could win with different guys at quarterback, and
that's really important. Different guys at running back and it's
very important bringing in guys that you know that are
different than Aiden Fisher, Michael Kamara, D'Angelo Ponds, those kind

(49:11):
of guys. Replacing them is going to show that it
is sustainable. But we know from what Kurt Signetti did
at James Madison and so quickly here that it's not
a plug and play situation. But he knows how to
evaluate talent and identify talent, and so next year will
be critical to prove that you could keep it up.

(49:32):
And so yeah, there is that, but so is this year.
This year is that same way. You know, think about
the twenty twenty season where Tom Allen they go six
and one, I think six and two on the season
six and two. That was coming off the eight and
five year from the year before six and two, and

(49:52):
then you had twenty twenty one where the bottom fell out.

Speaker 1 (49:56):
So that is.

Speaker 2 (49:59):
Is something that we have to keep an eye on
as well. But keeping it going, I think is really
really important. Gonna make a last call from phone Calls
eight one, Reid says, I'm coming from Atlanta to see
you post UCLA. Get the headset ready. Hopefully we'll have
great weather for that and we're gonna be set up

(50:21):
outside the Tennis center with my uh my little tent,
my uh my new bought a new table for this
and didn't get to use it today, but have a
new table. Everything is and I'm really excited. Robert also says,
until Signetti, how many zero, one, two, three win seasons
did we suffer? Through? Suffer is the right word, because

(50:45):
that's how it was. And uh, the fact that that
is so much in the recent past and now Indiana
is poised to be the number two team in the
country is uh just extraordinary. We had a three win
season just two years ago and one of those wins

(51:06):
was against Indiana State, an FCS team had a quadruple
overtime win over Akron that if I remember that correctly,
Akron had that opportunity to win and didn't. And then
we beat Illinois in overtime, giving up forty five points
along the way. So we are a long way from

(51:27):
from where that was. To say the least. It's fun,
isn't it trying to see that quarterback for that team,
by the way, With Brendan Soresby, who is the quarterback
at Cincinnati now, he's fourteen touchdowns one interception, which is
good it's not Fernando Mendoza. Good because as you heard

(51:51):
on that press conference, you know, Jeff rab Johns was
asking the question about Mendoza's numbers and how just crazy
they are. How About what are his numbers on the year.
How about one thirty three of one point eighty one.
That's a seventy three percent leation percentage for oney, seven

(52:12):
hundred and fifty five yards, twenty one touchdowns and two interceptions.
That's why he's getting the Heisman attention. Is it the
greatest Heisman class of all time? No, but that's why
he's getting this attention. He's just been absolutely incredible. Schwartz says,

(52:34):
Ayes Sachern missed a field goal that would have won
that game in overtime. That's what I thought. It was interesting.
He also says a lot of the current players will
be gone after this season. Next season may be the
adjustment year until players get experienced. Possibly, but I'll tell
you what the transfer portal and everything that goes along
with that. Knowing that Signette's going to be here, that

(52:54):
all makes a huge difference in convincing guys that Indiana
is a place that you could come, that you could win,
and you could be successful right away, and the Hoodreds
have done a great job of identifying that talent. And
then you throw in the fact that guys are developing
along the way that are in you know, backup roles

(53:16):
this year, that they're going to be able to be
plugged in. But I'm gonna worry about next year. Next year.
That's that's that's where we are with this. We know
SIG's going to be the head coach. I love that
we don't have to answer the question about if he's
going to be here next year.

Speaker 5 (53:29):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (53:30):
And I love the fact that Indiana has just just
has so much going in a positive direction, a path
to twelve and zero. Come Monday afternoon, they should be
the number two team in the country and they can
continue their pursuit of this special year. Well, I think

(53:55):
that that'll just about do it for us today. Thirty
eight to thirteen is your final. The Hoosiers dominate Michigan
State from the second quarter on, crushed them defensively, just
left them demoralized to the point that Michigan State within

(54:15):
the last minute of the game, I think, yeah, the
thirty three seconds left on the clock, they kicked the
field goal just to cover that they just wanted to
get a couple of points. That's how much Indiana demoralized
and took home the old Brass spatoon for the second

(54:36):
straight year as well, which is no small thing. Michigan
State has owned that trophy. Indiana got the job done,
and again, all of the belief, I truly believe that,
all of the belief from the players to Kurt Signetti
started last year in the Michigan State game. Last year
when indianfl behind ten nothing and then ran off what

(55:00):
you know, how many straight points did? They scored a
ton unanswered? I know that and dominated ever since then.
Anything that he proved, he tells you forty seven unanswered
points after falling behind ten, not then last year in
East Lancing. At that point, you have to believe everything
that that man has to say. What's all the time

(55:22):
we have for the Pigs post game live, I want
to thank you for listening. I don't reund mind you
to visit pigs dot com for the very best in
IU football and basketball coverage. You're going to find anywhere
nobody covers who's're recruiting, like like Jeff rab John's Matt Weaver,
Trevor Andershoch and Jared Kelly. So come be a part
of a thriving and excited community at pigs dot com. Folks,
you are not going to be disappointed. Folks aront of time,

(55:42):
But for now and for Jeff, Matt, Trevor and Jared,
I'm ken Bikoff saying thanks for listening. Everybody,
