Speaker 1 (00:03):
Welcome in everybody. It is Tuesday, September second.

Speaker 2 (00:07):
Indiana is one to zero on the twenty twenty five season,
following a twenty seven to fourteen win over Old Dominion
on Saturday. In the season opener Piece of Homs, Matt
Weaver Jerry Kelly here to talk through everything we saw
from Saturday and going forward. Matt, I guess the best
way to put this is kind of what Chursinnetti said
on Monday. You know you're in a good spot when

(00:30):
the fan base is no longer you know, just okay
with winning games. And you know, this is certainly a
game that Indiana obviously good to always get a win.
Christinat says that everyone is good. You should celebrate them,
but definitely not the style points that Indiana would have wanted.
And you know, there's a lot of things, you know,
coming out of this game. I think Kris and As
licking his chops here with all the different film and

(00:52):
different things he can get good after after the Hoosia
is about.

Speaker 3 (00:57):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (00:57):
I mean, obviously you would have liked to won the game,
uh more handily, and they should have with all the
opportunities they had.

Speaker 3 (01:04):
But sometimes a game like this maybe it's a it's
a little bit of a good thing for your team,
you know. I don't, I don't. I don't think. I
don't think Indian had a lack of edge.

Speaker 4 (01:12):
I mean, maybe they overlooked him a little bit, But
this is like that, that's the kind of game that
maybe if there were some guys who maybe weren't as
focused on the task in hand as they should be,
that this kind of you know, you know, wakes them
up a little bit. But I really just think some
really a lot of it just came down to, you know,
some execution. It keeps probably Nomar Cooper catches that ball,

(01:35):
uh you know, if you don't have to turnover from
Lee bb if if you're able to uh you know,
punch it in a couple of times.

Speaker 3 (01:40):
I mean, we're we're having a different conversation.

Speaker 4 (01:42):
But I thought overall, the the play was a positive,
the performance was a positive. It just some things they
got to clean up and the things that have to
be you know, I said this after the game and
are on the field video if.

Speaker 3 (01:53):
It had been they ran there.

Speaker 4 (01:55):
They had like three hundred yards of total offense, and
they really struggled to move the ball and the rushing
average was like three yards of carry. I'd be really
a concern they They moved the ball pretty much at will.
Their defense was fantastic outside of two plays. I mean,
I set up my story, ninety five percent of the
plays on the field they dominated Old Dominion. There was
two plays that accounted for their two touchdowns and basically

(02:16):
half their yards. So I mean, these are things that
are very correctable. The staff has shown that they can
correct and get and improve guys, and I think they'll
see a big improvement this week against Kannessall State.

Speaker 1 (02:28):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (02:29):
I don't know if you've had a chance for me
to go go look back at the at this game,
rewatch the highlights and such.

Speaker 1 (02:34):
I actually did this this morning.

Speaker 2 (02:37):
I feel sort of the same way coming out that
I did Saturday, coming out of rewatching the game, which
is that I'm not concerned about Indiana. Like you mentioned,
I think a lot of these things are very fixable,
like that Omar Cooper junior drop nine, you know, nine
times out attendants and to catch that ball, you know,
the deep pass from Fernanda Mendoza Lebron Bond down the sideline.

(02:57):
He's probably gonna make that pass, you know, seven out
of ten times you give him another chance at it.
So there's a lot of different things here that I
think are easily correctable, like you mentioned, and quite honestly,
I feel better about indian after rewatching the highlights and
you know, kind of being able to pick apart because,
like you said, like between the twenties or you know,
aside from the red zone troubles, I think Indiana did

(03:19):
a lot of good things that you know, the big
plays and the plays from Old Dominion, those big plays
that the kind of mask what all the good that
Indiana did. So I feel pretty good about what where
Indiana is. If this is the baseline starting point. I
did want to obviously the hot topic here Matt Fernando
Mendoza his Indiana debut. He goes eighteen for thirty one

(03:39):
for one and ninety three yards. He has a one
rushing score, but no no passing touchdowns, a couple throws
here and there that you know could have been intercepted.

Speaker 1 (03:49):
Unfortunately we're not.

Speaker 2 (03:51):
First of all, your thoughts on Mendoza after having some day,
some time to think about his performance.

Speaker 3 (03:56):
I mean, there was good and bad.

Speaker 4 (03:57):
I thought there was more good than there was bad,
you know, the biggest thing is and coaching, and he
talked about this is just the process scene and you know,
identifying the reids, you know. But he said the same
thing about and I don't want to keep comparing him,
but that's what what people have been doing on the board.
He said the same thing about Curtis Rock after the
Florida International game. He miss reads in that game. And

(04:20):
you know, whatever way you want to look at it.
In the ESPN QBR for Mendoza was like sixty six
points something I think for Rourke after the game last
year was in the fortiesh. The pff A grade was
much better for Mendoza than Rourke after Week one. They're
not the same quarterback, they're not polar opposites, but they
have different games. But I'm just saying that that's right now,

(04:42):
that's our basis for comparison. So, and we saw Rourke really,
I mean it was really more the UCLA game. I mean,
Western Illinois didn't show as much as far as his
improvement because of the opponent we were Sonois was obviously
not a very good team. We really saw it in
week three when they went out west and played Ucla
and he was fantastic. I think that's what you'll see
now week three. It's Indiana state, so it may be

(05:03):
more like Illinois. We get a much better gauge of
the progress that Mendoz' is may yea. I think you'll
see some this week obviously, but it's when the opponents
kind of ramp up a little bit.

Speaker 3 (05:12):
But I think he'll be fine.

Speaker 4 (05:14):
You know, he showed what he can do scramble the ball.
You know, other than the Reids. The one thing, the
one you know kind of air eyes is the sack
was on him. I mean, Indianazo aligne did a good job.
They're blockers, but he held on the ball too long.
If you remember, he kind of scrambled out to the
left and he kept looking down field, and it's the
guy trying to make a play. But at some point
your eternal clock's gonna be like, Okay, I gotta start going.
I gotta either run or I gotta chuck this out

(05:35):
of bounce or something. But overall, I thought he threw
the ball pretty well. There's a few throws obviously with
the the ball of Cooper was perfect and Omar Cooper
is going to catch that ball probably ninety eight niney
nine times out of one hundred. He just that's just
the one time he dropped it. The one to Bond
was really was really close. It was just barely overthrown.
So I don't I have no reason to be any

(05:56):
less optimistic. Did he meet my expectations, No, but my
expectations were probably unrealistic for week one, like most people's work,
and that's on me and on us. So I think
he'll be fine. Kurse ne Eddie and this staffs have
done a great job developing quarterbacks, and I think they
will with Mendoz as well.

Speaker 2 (06:13):
You know, looking around college football this week two, Week one,
there was a lot of quarterback play that was pretty
underwhelming across the board.

Speaker 1 (06:21):
I mean, you look at Iowa.

Speaker 2 (06:22):
They brought in that transfer quarterback that you know they
were raving about all offseason. He doesn't even throw for
like one hundred yards. You know, across the board, there's
there's a lot of underwhelming quarterback play. And for Nano Mendoza,
you know, probably should have gone over two hundred yards,
should have had a touchdown or two. There's a lot
here that I think, you know, fans will pick apart
and say, hey, but like like you mentioned, I think

(06:43):
the expectations were set so high that it was going
to be almost impossible for him to reach those in
game one, which is okay. And the other part of
this too, Matt, And we've seen this on the board
on our board, especially like comparing for Nano Mendoza to
Curtis Work, I think is just is not to either
guy because they played different styles. You know, obviously Mendoza's

(07:04):
legs are a part of it, but they are two
different quarterbacks. You know, Curtis Wark was entering a sixth
year last year coming in, he had played so much
football for random Mendoza. This is really his second full time,
second year as a full time starter. Rorke had like
four years of starting experience when he came in. Like,
these are two different situations, and I think the more
that fans start to separate those two instead of comparing

(07:26):
those two, I think they'll be better off for it.

Speaker 4 (07:29):
Yeah, I agree, And like I said, I mean, they're
not polar obviosis, but they're different. I mean, you know,
they're just they they played the game a little bit differently,
and it isn't fair to either guy. I mean, Curtis
Work had arguably if not the greatest season the quarterback
Indiana's head and its history, then it's got to be
in the top, you know, two or three.

Speaker 3 (07:46):
So Mendoz is gonna be fine.

Speaker 4 (07:49):
I mean a lot of the a lot of the
expectations have been outside of people like us. It's been
national with the draft stuff and all that kind of thing,
you know, And I guess you'd rather have your quarterback
get maybe too much attention and no intentional I don't know.
I think it's good for the program, but I you know,
I was guilty of it. I've been building them up
and I still think he's gonna have a great season.

(08:10):
And and it's not like he played. It's not like
he played poorly. I mean, you know, he's he still
made a lot of good plays. It's just he's got
to clean up some of those some of those plays,
and I think he will get to them. He's a
you talkee talking to Hmack to him, he's a very
obviously very intelligent got into the Yale Cal's a great school.
So I mean, obviously this is a guy who's who's
really smart. He understands it, he works hard, and he'll

(08:33):
be fine. There's I'm not concerned at all about Ferrandom Mendoza.

Speaker 2 (08:36):
Yah. The one the one thing that I think going
into this year that you and I had talked about
Matuth Mendoza was you know, will he trust in Indiana's
blocking up front more so than you know he did
at Cal because obviously at Cal he played behind a
pretty horrendous offensive line. Did you see that in this
game where it felt like Mendoza was was more confident
standing in the pocket. There were some plays where I

(08:58):
felt like he took off quicker than he should have.

Speaker 1 (09:01):
You know, he should should have stood in there a
little bit longer.

Speaker 2 (09:04):
But what were your all overall impressive but just just
sort of his poise inside the pocket to a Saturday.

Speaker 3 (09:09):
Yeah, I think that's one of the things he can
improve on.

Speaker 4 (09:11):
I thought there was a couple of times where I
thought maybe he got a little bit of happy feet
and the pat and there was still a pocket, but
maybe it was closing just a little bit.

Speaker 3 (09:20):
And some of it, like I said, it's just in
his head.

Speaker 4 (09:22):
I mean, in his head he's thinking back to the
last time he was on a field, which would have
been you know, in a real game, was last fall,
and probably within a couple of seconds he had to
take off and run or he was gonna get hit.
I mean, so that over time, I think that will improve.
He'll start to realize, Hey, this whole line's pretty good.
Actually they're better than pretty good. I think they're gonna

(09:43):
be darn good, and they're gonna pretend.

Speaker 3 (09:46):
Now.

Speaker 4 (09:46):
Is he never gonna get sacked? Absolutely, he's gonna. I mean,
it's gonna happen. You know, sometimes the defense is a
little bit better than the offense on certain plays. But this,
this line will keep him upright way more times than not.
He's just got to trust that. As time goes on,
I think he will. I think he'll he'll be fine.
He'll stand in the pocket. Obviously, he got his brains
beat in last year playing for count still put.

Speaker 3 (10:07):
Up really good numbers and led him to a Bowl game.
So I just think right now he's still kind of playing.

Speaker 4 (10:13):
You know, there's probably a part of him that still
kind of reverts back to last year and oh no,
I got you know, the fight or flight, and he's
you know, he got you got, He's taken off and
running and I get it. And they'll they'll they'll work
on him with that. I mean, the more he watches film,
the more he works with coach Whitmer, coach Shanahan, coach Signetti,
He'll realize, Hey, I can stay in there an extra
second or too longer, maybe go to that second third

(10:34):
or even four to three before I need to take off.

Speaker 2 (10:38):
The other the other component of this offensively this game, Matt, Obviously,
the red zone struggles, especially inside the ten to.

Speaker 1 (10:45):
Five not at all what Indiana was looking for.

Speaker 2 (10:48):
Uh, going back and watching this game, it's it seemed
like they're you know, Chritzen made mentioned there's a lot
of executional errors, but also Indiana seemed really hell bent
on just pounding the ball when it didn't didn't necessarily happen,
Like there was a there was a couple of plays
at the goal line when Old Minion had like ten
hats inside the box, like you're just kno going to
block everybody there. And in Indiana, for whatever reason, it

(11:08):
felt like it kind of had approve a point to
show that it can gain you know, the three, four
or five yards on the ground instead of you know,
maybe throwing a fade route to Elijah Shrad or using
you know, one of the tight ends in play action
it kind of felt like Indiana kept a lot of
things close to the vest inside their red zone. It
didn't want to show.

Speaker 1 (11:25):
Off too much.

Speaker 2 (11:26):
But in turn, obviously there there's a lot of fans
now that are, you know, kind of scratching their their
heads and saying, hey, what what was that in the
red zone?

Speaker 1 (11:32):
Hopefully doesn't continue.

Speaker 4 (11:34):
No, and I and I don't and I don't think
it will, you know, I mean both two times, the
two different times they were there was more than two times,
but they ran that diamond formation, which you can do.
There's different things you can do on that, especially with
an athletic quarterback like Mendoza, and basically they just ran power.

Speaker 3 (11:50):
I mean they just ran it. He turned around, handed
off and they ran it right up the middle.

Speaker 4 (11:53):
I'll be interested to see it when they get into
later in the season and they play a higher quality
opponent they start if they started doing something that it
be something where you don't want to show what you're
gonna do.

Speaker 3 (12:02):
You show the formation and you just run up the middle,
but later in the season you show the same formation,
you do something different. I don't know.

Speaker 4 (12:08):
I'm not saying they will, but that's something I could
see and other things.

Speaker 3 (12:11):
The only thing that I wish they would have done, and.

Speaker 4 (12:14):
I said in the press box to you guys, you
got a big you got a physical receiver in Elijah Surat,
you got a tall athletic guy in E. J. Williams,
and then you got a guy like Colden States at
tight end, who's what six', four you, know he's a
BIG i would have liked to see him. Throw and
they did. THROW i think he threw one To cooper
down in the north, end AND i can't. Remember they
might have been a second quarter and it was just
a little bit, honestly going back and look at that

(12:36):
probably should have been passing. Afference the guy had never
played a play of the. Ball he just ran Into
cooper and Then sarat on that. SLANT i think there
might have Been pastor And. Faislink signetty talked about that.
TOO i would have liked to maybe seeing him just
maybe you, know try those once or, twice especially on
that first. One BUT i also GET i think it
WAS i think they WERE i think this was kind of, like,
hey we're gonna see what we got up, front and

(12:58):
the line did a good. Job like you, said if
you got they got ten guys up. There there's just
there's no way you can block all ten of.

Speaker 3 (13:04):
THEM i, mean you just.

Speaker 4 (13:04):
Can't SO i understand what they were. DOING i don't
think that's what they're gonna do every time they get
in the red. ZONE i think the next two, WEEKS
i still think it'll be a little bit vanilla.

Speaker 3 (13:15):
Because they probably.

Speaker 4 (13:16):
Can and but you, know if you get that same
situation against Kanisall, state you really want to.

Speaker 3 (13:20):
See him punch it in from the one yard, line you.

Speaker 4 (13:23):
Know and that's and some of that was on, execution
the old line getting pushed back a little, bit and
he said a running back took the wrong the wrong
kind of.

Speaker 3 (13:30):
Steps you, know those are fixable things when you watch
it on.

Speaker 2 (13:32):
Film, yeah, YEAH i Think gideon and last, year what
were They they might have led The big ten in
red zone, efficiency if not the.

Speaker 1 (13:39):
Nation so these are these are things That.

Speaker 2 (13:42):
Indiana you, know they have a whole bunch of track
record from last year to go off. OF i, think
what's the playbook opens? Up they'll be fine down. There
you did hit on something, Though matt that AND i
tweeted this out at. Halftime Elizah surrat was nowhere to
be found in the first, half AND i thought that
was interesting because we saw a ton of J. Williams
he had a bunch of targets in the first, half
pretty much the Only indian receiver that was targeted more

(14:04):
than once in the first. Half And i'm you, know at,
Halftime i'm, like where Is Elijah? Surrat you got this
All american wide. Receiver granted he was getting bracketed and you,
know double teamed a lot By Old, Dominion but you,
know even THOUGH i think it was A serrat's first
catch of the game was a simple slant route that
we saw from you, Know rourke And serrat were just
picked apart defenses with that all year last. Year and

(14:27):
it's not like you're putting that on, film like they
know That indian is gonna run slants and probably, throws you,
know those those one step throws To, Surat LIKE i
would have liked to See indiana to try to get
him incorporated a little bit more and really open up
the offense early.

Speaker 4 (14:40):
On, YEAH i was surprised by that. TOO i don't
know that it was intentional that they weren't trying to
get him. INVOLVED i just wonder if you, KNOW i,
mean you, know what's the ball Snapped.

Speaker 3 (14:49):
Mendoza maybe there's something that you, know.

Speaker 4 (14:52):
Every quarterback has different things they like when as far as,
plays And i'm not.

Speaker 3 (14:56):
Saying he doesn't like the plays that where the ball
goes to.

Speaker 4 (14:58):
Throun i'm just saying maybe on some of these plays
there was the thing that he liked better or you,
know he was looking. FOR i think it was it
was encouraging THAT. E. J williams was targeted early and.
OFTEN i think that bodes well for the rest of
the season because you, Know sarat's gonna get HIS i,
mean he just says he's too good and he's gonna
get His he's gonna get his, touches his his, targets
and he's gonna do a lot of big things with.

Speaker 3 (15:18):
Him SO i, mean to, me it's kind of a you, know,
uh you, know there's there's a flip side to.

Speaker 4 (15:24):
IT i, mean, yeah he didn't target him as much
or very actually not at all in the first, half
but he did go to a guy that you, know
could be a huge key to this. Season SO i
think that and LIKE i, said, again the next two
weeks we may not get a better feel for that.

Speaker 3 (15:36):
EITHER i, mean there may, be you, know just because
of the.

Speaker 4 (15:38):
OPPONENTS i, Mean Kennislaw state will be a solid opponent
in THE Na. State you, know that's should be a
game where by third quarter all those guys are staying
on the, sideline you, know watching the. Game but going, Forward,
Yeah sarad has got to be a guy THAT'S i,
MEAN i don't, KNOW i don't know if there's a.
NUMBER i, mean but to, Me i'm trying to get
him the. Ball i'm targeting him at probably was seven
to eight up to ten times a game because he's

(16:00):
so good and he makes plays and if the balls
anywhere close to, him he's coming down to, it even
if he's well.

Speaker 2 (16:06):
Covered, yeah, yeah so that'll. BE i did like though
that they got E. J williams in rhythm there. Earlier
it kind of looked like they keed in on him
and they really wanted to get him going just just
to build some confidence earlier this.

Speaker 1 (16:18):
Season SO i like.

Speaker 2 (16:18):
That, also it should be worth noting, Too Matt indiana
that they're starting three at wide receiver was E. J
williams And surat on the, outside and Then Omar cooper
in the, slot which is.

Speaker 3 (16:30):
SOMETHING i got it.

Speaker 4 (16:31):
RIGHT i got that was one of my one thing
for my DEPTH trup projects THAT i got. Right no,
clue but that's WHAT i figured it might.

Speaker 2 (16:37):
Be, no and it worked out BECAUSE i, THOUGHT i
Thought Omar, cooper you, know we saw those deep. THROWS i,
THOUGHT i think he works perfectly in the. Slot if
If indiana could keep all three of those guys, healthy,
YEAH i.

Speaker 4 (16:48):
Agree and and you, know it was interesting those three.
GUYS i said it in THE pff. Story those three
guys individually had more snaps than the than The they
played seven receivers and the four guys who came off
the bed had. Combined AND i think maybe the biggest
surprise for me Was Makai jackson only get one snap
for the entire.

Speaker 3 (17:08):
Game you, know it'll be just to see what happens going.

Speaker 4 (17:10):
Forward but and and you, Know i'm not saying that
he's a bust or anything like.

Speaker 3 (17:14):
That it was just kind of surprising to.

Speaker 4 (17:16):
Me now we don't get to see we hadn't seen
practice in a, while and we didn't see a whole
lot of team, stuff so you, know maybe this maybe
we would be surprised by. It BUT i was a
little bit surprised by. THAT i thought he'd get. MORE
i THINK i Think Lebron bond will get. MORE i
mean you could see the, burst his ability to, separate
even though it was only AND i think he played
maybe eight. SNAPS i think it, was BUT i mean

(17:37):
on that deep, PLAY i mean he was three yards
past THE. dB i mean he was wide. Open so you,
KNOW i think he'll see. Interesting Charlie becker's the other
guy want if they get, more but they've Got they've
got good depth at. Receiver and it showed BECAUSE i
mean when a guy Like Makai jackson has been really
product his career is fighting for playing, time that shows
you where you're.

Speaker 3 (17:56):
At you got a good position group.

Speaker 1 (18:00):
Went on Here before we get to the.

Speaker 2 (18:01):
Defense, uh The indiana's running, game you, know taking away
the red zone, struggles which obviously you can't take. Away
you can't ignore. Those that has to get. Better but
three hundred and nine yards on the, Ground, Uh indiana
got whatever it wanted basically on old. Dominion AND i
Think indiana's offensive line took a little more grief than
it should have because of the red zone. Struggles but you,

(18:23):
know when they were sort of driving down the, field
like the offensive LINE i thought did a terrific job
and opening up a big. HOLES i tweeted out a
video Earlier Riley, nolkowski but he he showed up all,
game you, know setting the edge and doing different things
in the blocking, Game indiana's running. Game you, know you
have a true three headed. Monster and we kind of
felt like this is the way it could go this,

(18:44):
year but we had to see it on the field.
First but with Hen By black And LEE, BB i
think they're all three of them are kind of different
enough stylistically that that it makes sense that all three
of them can find can find a role on the.
Field did this fall AND i think, that you, know ESPECIALLY,
bb it was really good to see him bounce back
after that. Fumble he finished with seventy three. Yards but

(19:05):
all three of these, guys you, KNOW i feel pretty
confident if he put any of those guys in the
game at any.

Speaker 1 (19:09):
Point, oh they.

Speaker 4 (19:10):
Were terrific and and AND i was very impressed WITH
bb just because obviously your first carry at at At
indiana and you, know you cough it up and then
he comes back and you, know seventy three yards on eleven.
Carries you, know nearly seven six and a half yards of.
CARRY i mean he was really. Good handy was, terrific

(19:30):
and you saw that, BURST i, think AND i you,
KNOW i noticed to you guys in the, PRESS i
was not THAT i thought he wasn't a didn't have any,
physicality but he.

Speaker 3 (19:38):
Ran he was a more physical guy between the, tackles.

Speaker 4 (19:42):
AND i remember MAYBE i just didn't Watch maryland all that,
much but he was a guy, that you, know he
would put his shoulder down and he could he, could
uh you, know kind of break some tackles and get
that get that tough.

Speaker 3 (19:51):
Yards and Obviously Kaylon, black you, know he can bounce.

Speaker 4 (19:54):
It outside doesn't have the speed Of, heivy but he's
got enough speed where he can be a. Threat BUT
i mean, inside you, know he's just like a bowling
ball coming. Downhill so they've they've got this is a
really good running back. Room and as good as it
was last, YEAR i think it's. BETTER i, Mean Kaylon
black should be, improved AND i think Him bey And
bbie as good As elison a lot more last. YEAR
i think these guys might be just a little bit

(20:14):
better than. Them and then the receiving that they can
provide out of the, backfield you, know kind of separates
them even more. SO i was really. Impressed AND i
thought the old line played really. WELL i know you
talk about the red, zone but it's not just the
old line when you get down. There everybody's got.

Speaker 3 (20:27):
To do their.

Speaker 4 (20:28):
Job AND i, thought And i'm sure they made some,
mistakes BUT i thought the old line overall was was
pretty darn.

Speaker 2 (20:32):
Good, yeah and touching out of the old line real, Quick. Matt,
obviously we learned last, WEEK i think it Was thursday
On Christy gnati's radio, Show Khalil benson got the start
at right, tackle which Meant Zen mahalski would feel sort
of a swing, tackle backup. ROLE i don't know if
if you kind of thought that was the way it
would ultimately shake, out you, know once the season. STARTED

(20:55):
i Thought ben's have played a pretty. Game good game
on the right Side. INDIANA i think they did favor
the left, side were running to the left a little
bit more in this. Game so that might be sort
of a preheursor to to what we could. Expect But,
benson you, know he has the he has the familiar
With Bob. Bostad going back to twenty twenty. Three so
did you have any thoughts on him kind of winning
that job over over his.

Speaker 1 (21:16):
Amahs, NO i wouldn't have.

Speaker 3 (21:17):
Been surprised either.

Speaker 4 (21:18):
WAY I I i remember one of the, practices one
of the last practices we got to, see AND.

Speaker 3 (21:24):
I think everybody, knows you know they even though you
know we there was a.

Speaker 4 (21:27):
Picture it's been talked, about BUT i think Bray lynch
missed a little bit of time in fall. Camp he's
obviously find, out but they had Moved mkilesky from my,
HOUSE i aw say his name to right.

Speaker 3 (21:36):
Guard that's WHEN i kind of he was with. It
and we don't get to see team.

Speaker 4 (21:39):
Stuff we get to see the old line lineup at
times in, units so you can kind, of you, know
to do something from. That and they Had benson at right,
tackle and so that's WHEN i, Thought, Okay benson's the.
Guy the reason why IS i think If house he
would have been the right, tackle somebody else would have
been in it right, guard whether it Be benson or
one of the guys who you, Know johnny or Leap

(22:01):
frid or whoever may.

Speaker 3 (22:02):
Be that's WHEN i kind of dawned to me And
i'm not really.

Speaker 4 (22:04):
SURPRISED i, mean there's there is, familiarity you, know AND
i think if if If vigowski would have won the,
job The benson would.

Speaker 3 (22:11):
Have been the guy who's a swing tackle who kind
of fills in it.

Speaker 4 (22:14):
Wherever so they got great depth and and hopefully this
line can stay healthy the entire year and there's no.
Injuries but, uh you, know we saw last year year
you may need a guy to step, in and it's
good that you have a guy.

Speaker 3 (22:29):
Like him on the you, know waiting in the, wings
who can who can fill. In.

Speaker 2 (22:33):
Yeah, yeah it's not every day you have a fifth,
year fifth year senior From Ohio STATE u as your
backup on the offensive.

Speaker 1 (22:39):
Line so that's obviously a good place For indian to.

Speaker 2 (22:41):
Be but speaking of, Injuries, matt obviously we learned yesterday
And monday that That indiana Safety Bryson bonds has done
for the. SEASON i, HONESTLY i don't know if you Saw.

Speaker 1 (22:51):
MATT i honestly.

Speaker 2 (22:52):
Didn't quite see how he got. Injured it looked, like,
uh what about a special teams or, something and it
looked like it may might have been a non contact.
Thing but he's done for the season with a knee,
injury and that obviously Leaves Indiana safety's, room especially their
depth in some.

Speaker 3 (23:07):
Trouble, yeah And i'm pretty sure we special.

Speaker 4 (23:10):
TEAMS i think it was a punt AND i think
it was a fair, catch which is kind of weird
because you, think BUT i, mean it just could be
one of those things where even though it was a
fair catch and you, know their guys were probably so you,
know but, yes that's usually what happens is usually non
contact the.

Speaker 3 (23:23):
Guy just that's HOW i, Mean i'm assuming it's AN.

Speaker 4 (23:25):
Acl they haven't, said BUT i mean they said SEASON indi,
knee SO i think it's probably safe to assume that
it's AN.

Speaker 3 (23:30):
Acl it.

Speaker 4 (23:31):
IS i, MEAN i didn't Expect bonds to play a
ton at, safety but if somebody went, down then he
was a guy that you really expected could step in
and give you. Snaps he played some last year at
safety and more towards the end of the, season and
then With Byron baldwin being day to, day which is you,
know what is you know is that you, know does
that mean he could be back this?

Speaker 3 (23:51):
WEEK i, mean that's it's better than week to, WEEK i,
guess but it.

Speaker 4 (23:54):
Does it's a position group where at the top you're
strong as long as we're not you, know We're we're
gonna assume right now That Lewis moore is going to
be clear for the. Season you're strong with your top.
Three but after, that it's not that you're not, talented
you just don't. KNOW i, mean you know you you said,
it and when you talk about your Story Byron baldwin's
you have to play play a. Snap if you play

(24:15):
Josh Al, boyd he's yet to play a snap in college.
Football if you'd have to even go to Like Siontay,
stewart he's yet to obviously play a. Snap and then
if you move a corner like knight in Or, gandy
they basically got no experience over. There they've got experience,
playing but they've got no experience over there at that
position THAT i know. Of so it's a little bit
of a precarious. SITUATION i, mean you, know If baldwins comes,

(24:38):
BACK i think that definitely. Helps but you, know injuries,
happened and at that, position there's a lot of obviously
flying around and, hitting so you know they're gonna need some.
Luck but it's it is a blow Because he's a
guy that can give you experienced you, know.

Speaker 3 (24:53):
Be an experienced guy in that.

Speaker 2 (24:54):
Room and let's not forget To. Bonds was was a
mainstay on special. Teams he's a really good covers player
on their on the kick cover genus for. Them so
losing him with special teams is, uh quite the blow there.

Speaker 1 (25:07):
Also at safety, Too.

Speaker 2 (25:08):
Matt you, know if for whatever, NOW i think we
both expect That Lewis, MOORE i can't see that that
how how they just pulled a rug on him after you,
know once the next court ruling. Happens but in the
event that somehow he does not get, CLEARED i, mean
what do you even do if you're In. DANA i,
MEAN i guess you can move a boycome back to
to Where moore is playing right now with that free safety.

(25:31):
Spot but then you're left with probably a true freshman
or you, know a Jo ja boyd retro freshman is
in place like in That in that, scenario it's a
it's a pretty daunting scenario That indiana could could be faced.

Speaker 3 (25:43):
With, yeah AND i MEAN.

Speaker 4 (25:47):
I think the other option is is you, know you
go with more of a nickel corner than maybe kind
of A nickel safety and it's Either gandy Or nighting
somebody like. That but still it's you're you're you're playing
guys maybe in a position where they haven't got a
ton of, snaps maybe throughout fall camp and and throughout their.
Career and then you, KNOW i think Josh Al boyd's
a gonna a talented guy and has a bright.

Speaker 3 (26:08):
Future saying with with some of those other young guys
of ball.

Speaker 4 (26:12):
One but you're you're, asking you, know you're asking a
lot of these guys to come in into and to
fill that.

Speaker 3 (26:18):
Role So i'm with.

Speaker 4 (26:18):
You it would BE i don't want to say, shocking
because nothing THE ncaa does shocks.

Speaker 3 (26:23):
Me BUT i would. BE i guess it's not really THE.
Ncaa it's the.

Speaker 4 (26:26):
Court it's were up to the where it's in the
court system, now but nothing would surprise. ME i just
can't imagine you let a guy play two weeks and
it seems like there's been some other cases that are
similar to his that have gone favorably for the.

Speaker 3 (26:36):
Athlete SO i WOULD i.

Speaker 4 (26:38):
WOULD i shouldn't say, assume because that's you shouldn't do,
that BUT i would hope that the same thing happens for.
Him but, yeah you're you're in a tough.

Speaker 3 (26:48):
Spot AND i, MEAN i don't.

Speaker 4 (26:50):
Know i'm not Saying indiana, knows but you wonder if
they feel pretty good about.

Speaker 3 (26:53):
It but the fact that they let they.

Speaker 4 (26:54):
Had him play and he played so many, SNAPS i,
mean it'd be one thing to have him, play but
you think if you were kind of, unsure or maybe
you play somebody else that's split some snaps back, there you,
know maybe Move boykin over at times and play somebody.
Else they didn't do, that so or maybe it's just
because that's just that's who they feel comfortable with right.

Speaker 3 (27:10):
Now but hopefully he's fine because he played.

Speaker 4 (27:13):
Well HE i think he led him in, tackles he
had the, interception AND i mean HE i Thought Lewis
moore had a nice game and he'd obviously be.

Speaker 3 (27:20):
Huge you keep it for the rest of the, season all.

Speaker 2 (27:22):
Right going back to this, GAME i wanted to hit
on what you just, Mentioned, matt the lack of snaps
for the, backups you, know going through your snap, count
YOUR pff.

Speaker 1 (27:31):
STORY i don't, KNOW i don't know if.

Speaker 2 (27:34):
This kind of took you by, surprise But indiana basically
played its entire starting lineup like ninety eight percent of the. Snaps,
Now Old dominion didn't run a whole bunch of, plays
so there wasn't a you, know a huge sample size
to get other guys into the. GAME i don't know
if this Is, INDIANA i would imagine THAT i you
went into this game thinking we're going to play the

(27:54):
backups once the game gets out of.

Speaker 1 (27:56):
Hand that clearly did not.

Speaker 2 (27:57):
Happen And i'm guessing that the guy the guys that
played are the guys they feel super comfortable. With now
you you hope that's not a depth issue that they
don't trust to. Depth BUT i was pretty surprised about
how few players got in the game aside from the.

Speaker 3 (28:11):
Starters, yeah and some of them might have been game.

Speaker 4 (28:13):
FLOW i, mean like you, SAID i mean they only
had they only had forty five forty six.

Speaker 3 (28:19):
Snaps that that is ridiculously low in a college football.

Speaker 4 (28:22):
Game but like, coaching they saying even that they started
trying to they tried to shorten the game in the second, quarter.

Speaker 3 (28:29):
And you, know because AND i think they knew they
couldn't get into shootout With.

Speaker 4 (28:31):
Indiana but, YEAH i mean on, defense they only played
fifteen guys IF i IF i remember from MY pfs,
STAR i think they played fifteen guys on defense and uh,
ONE i think it was like one linebacker and then they.

Speaker 3 (28:43):
Played you, know a few a few.

Speaker 4 (28:46):
DEFENSIVE i mean the dbast played the entire game every single,
snap so, uh you know it was that was a little.

Speaker 3 (28:53):
Bit UH i maybe it was fifteen on. OFFENSE i can't.

Speaker 4 (28:56):
Remember it was twenty was they barely played anybody on
either side of the. Ball and there were some game
like that last, year but it was usually more in
The Big ten season where that, happened and not so
much in the non. Conference So i'll be interested to
see what the rotation looks like this week and then
obviously In week three when they Play Indiana. STATE i
would think you'll start to see more, guys you, know
and it could be somewhat of a trust. Factor right,

(29:16):
now they still want they they still want to see
a little bit more.

Speaker 3 (29:18):
From some guys before they put him out. There AND
i Think.

Speaker 4 (29:20):
Baldwin would have played obviously if he was if he
would have been you, know. Available you, know as far
as the old, line they're not GONNA i don't See
bostad rotating. Guys he seems like a guy that wants
to play his units together as much as possible and
then play his next.

Speaker 3 (29:35):
Unit together as much as.

Speaker 4 (29:36):
Possible SO i don't know that you're gonna see a
rotation with with any of those.

Speaker 3 (29:40):
Spots so you know it's gonna basically, be you, know
the the.

Speaker 4 (29:45):
Uh LIKE i, SAID i was a little bit surprised
receiver some receivers to get more, snaps but and then,
defensively more guys didn't get in the. Game but LIKE i,
SAID i think it'll change going, forward but it'll be
interested in the next couple of.

Speaker 1 (29:55):
Weeks, yeah a couple of guys who didn't get in.

Speaker 2 (29:58):
THERE i don't Think daniel And Duke way took a
snap on defense night In Gandhy neither of them got
in the game to across the DEFENSIVE i Guess landino
got in there for a. Couple Dominic gradcliffe was in
there for a. COUPLE i Thought Kallum why And Stephen
dailey have pretty good. Games Kellen why that that second
long touchdown run that was a complete bust on his,
part so he'll definitely need to clean that.

Speaker 1 (30:19):
Up BUT i Thought, overall he played a good. Game.

Speaker 2 (30:21):
Uh the one CONCERN i think a lot of fans Had,
matt especially along the defensive, line was where was the?
Pressure and there there's a couple of different factors here
just based on old dominion scheme and and you, Know
indiana to play a three down. Front BUT i, mean mcal,
kamara if you're gonna be An All, american if you're
gonna be A day, One day two draft, pick like
you can't have no shows like. This AND i think

(30:44):
that's kind of where fans got a little concern, about you,
know in the trenches in this.

Speaker 3 (30:48):
One, Yeah AND i mean it was.

Speaker 4 (30:50):
INTERESTING i mean HIS pff trade was And i'm not
SAYING pff is everything profole focuses, everything but it's one
of the it's one of the tools that we got
to kind of look at his HIS i think he
was one of the higher graded guys on, defense but
it was like considered.

Speaker 3 (31:04):
AVERAGE i think SEVENTY i think it's like seventy to eighties.

Speaker 4 (31:06):
Considered average or something like, that or maybe it was
just above, average but, yeah he. Was he had he
had one tackle AND i don't remember him being in
the BACKFIELD a TON i JUST i, mean maybe MAYBE
i missed, it BUT i don't remember him being in
the backfield.

Speaker 3 (31:19):
A, ton so you, know, YEAH i MEAN I i
it was.

Speaker 4 (31:26):
Surprising his pass us. Great i'm just looking at it right.
Now with sixty seven point nine for, him that's. LOW i,
mean this was obviously seventy one point eight was overall.
Grade he was pretty much right around average across the.
Board nobody on defense other than a few guys as
far as like, coverage, guys we're all that. Great so you, know,
Well i'm not worried about the. Defense i'm not worried

(31:47):
about McCaul, kamara you. Know BUT i know people be,
like well does a position?

Speaker 3 (31:51):
CHANGE i.

Speaker 4 (31:52):
DON'T i, mean he played that position. Before it's not
like it's brand. New he played At. JAMIE i know
he didn't play AT iu, really but he's played that position,
before so it's not like you're moved him to a
spot where he's literally had no snaps.

Speaker 3 (32:02):
WHATSOEVER i think they'll be. FINE i think some of
it was old. Dominion the guy wasn't holding the ball
a long, time a.

Speaker 4 (32:09):
TON i mean there were some but you, know he
wasn't holding the ball a ton and and ALSO i,
think you, know SOMETIMES i felt like THE d line
was kind of going more because of the way they
played in the throat of the quarterback. Round they were
going more sideways than trying to really get up field
as much as they as they normally.

Speaker 3 (32:25):
Do and MAYBE i was wrong on.

Speaker 4 (32:27):
That and you, KNOW i think maybe you, know his
story to the media they have made save Me jacobs might
have mentioned the same thing, Too but you, KNOW i
THINK i think They indiana kind of altered how they
played because of that quarterback and what he could do
with his.

Speaker 3 (32:39):
Legs you, know LIKE i, said we'll see this.

Speaker 4 (32:40):
Week if we come out and they struggle to get,
pressured THEN i think it's something you gotta start to be,
okay what's going?

Speaker 1 (32:45):
On, yeah, YEAH i.

Speaker 2 (32:47):
Agree and the other thing, too and WE i think
we just you kind of touched on us a little.
Bit indiana played a lot of three defensive line sets
with you, know three, linebackers three THREE d linemen and
five five.

Speaker 1 (32:59):
Dbs.

Speaker 2 (33:00):
Uh it's it's really difficult generated pass rush when you're
only sending three at the quarterback and a lot of
the Times kamaraw was the one that was getting you,
know double teamed in chip block and stuff like.

Speaker 1 (33:09):
That, UH i think he'll be.

Speaker 2 (33:11):
Find long, term especially Once indiana starts playing more conventional.
Offenses but, yeah games like this where where he was
kind of a no, show it does make you wonder
a little. Bit but hopefully going forward he can he
can get back into that sack. Column moving on Back.
Matt the, LINEBACKERS i Thought Aiden, Fisher Relijah, HARDEYS i
thought all three of them had really good. Games Isaiah

(33:31):
jones in, PARTICULAR i think he had a really strong.

Speaker 1 (33:33):
Game he Had indian his only sack on the.

Speaker 2 (33:35):
Day but he looks like he could be a guy
that you, know you you send in there for you,
know certain blitz packages and, stuff and he could really
make an.

Speaker 4 (33:42):
Impact, yeah and you know, AGAIN i guess THE pff and.
Everything La hardy scored very, well graded very well according to,
Them AND i thought he had a GOOD i know
that's one position people were a little bit worried about
because he's replacing a great player In Jalen, walker AND
i thought HE i thought he did a really nice. Job,
Yeah Isaiah, JONES i MEAN i THINK i even MIND

(34:04):
i said something you when we were sitting the pressal
like it seemed Like Isaiah.

Speaker 3 (34:06):
Jones you, know he seems to be around the ball
a lot.

Speaker 4 (34:09):
Today when he was on the, field he was twenty three,
snaps so not a, ton but he seemed to be
very active always, see even if he wasn't making, attack
but he seemed to be one of the first guys.
There so you, know it's LIKE i, SAID i thought
the defense did a lot of good.

Speaker 3 (34:22):
THINGS i mean a lot of good. Things you.

Speaker 4 (34:24):
Know the pressure, obviously you'd like to see a little
bit more, pressure you, know, uh but they you, know
as far as stopping the, run it was like to
take away the two runs two and a half yards to,
CARRY i, mean you, know and you can't take away
those players. Away but other than those two, plays they
did basically. NOTHING i don't think they crossed midfield the
entire game except for him running the ball for those.

Speaker 3 (34:46):
TOUCHDOWNS i, mean they did a really good.

Speaker 4 (34:47):
Job the old dominion couldn't throw the ball at, all you,
Know so and, obviously you Know Dangel ponds, again you,
know that was really. Good, so you, know defensively, OVERALL
i thought it was a solid, effort you, know and
we should see a great deal of improvement going. Forward

(35:08):
you know some of the busts on those. RUNS i
mean on the first, One Hoseah wheeler ran right past
the quarterback when he was holding the ball right literally
right in front of. Him and then you mentioned the
WHY i missed the second one BECAUSE i was coming
down for the press.

Speaker 3 (35:18):
Off BUT i Guess wyatt really had a bad mistake
on that. One was A.

Speaker 4 (35:22):
Wyatt, yeah, Yeah so they'll they'll get those. Fixs you'll
see those on. Film BUT i DO i like THIS d.
LINE i THINK i think THIS d line is more
athletic and a little bit and longer than they were last.
Year but they got the last YEAR'S d line was,
Fantastic so THIS d line's got a lot to live up.

Speaker 2 (35:39):
Too all, right moving on, here last part of this.
GAME i wanted to talk About Matt, Obviously Special. TEAMS
i did my report card the different breakdowns of the
different position. Groups coming out of the. GAME i gave
The Special teams AN. A only only thing that would
have separated them from AN a plus Was frankie missing
that fifty two, yarder which it's tough to give a
guy grief about missing missing that long But special. Teams

(36:01):
this is an area Where indiana last year we saw
it in the punt return game With Miles price and
Keisha On. Williams, uh those two guys can really help
you turn a. Game in this, one, Obviously Jonathan brady
with that ninety one yard punt return really really good to.
See Nico rattischers goes perfect on both of his, kicks
and then you get the two, punters both of them
down their punts inside the twenty all around special TEAMS i,

(36:22):
THOUGHT i thought it gave it great for his.

Speaker 1 (36:24):
Performance, yeah they.

Speaker 4 (36:25):
Did And brady's punt return obviously was at the point
in the game Where indian had been. Stopped they were
they just seemed like seem like they didn't really have any,
momentum and obviously that gave him a big jolt of. Momentum.
Uh you Mentioned frankie was great on. KICKOFFS i think
it kind of one you, know Was Quinn. Warren obviously

(36:48):
something happened to. McCarthy i'm not exactly. SURE i actually
passed him going up to the press box after the
post game stuff from.

Speaker 3 (36:57):
The field and he was outside talking to SOME i guess.

Speaker 4 (36:59):
FAMILY i, mean he looked fine to, ME i, didn't you,
KNOW i didn't talk to him or, anything but he.

Speaker 3 (37:04):
Looked fine to.

Speaker 4 (37:05):
Me But Quinn warren had a really good, punt kind
of pooch punt Then indiana, DOUBT i want to, say
is right around to the ten yard line or.

Speaker 3 (37:11):
So So special teams were, GREAT i, THOUGHT i, mean
obviously they.

Speaker 4 (37:14):
DIDN'T i don't Think i'm trying to think that if
they returned anything that you, KNOW i don't think they.

Speaker 3 (37:18):
DID i mean They frankie kicked everything. OUT i, think punting,
WISE i Think i'm a fair.

Speaker 4 (37:22):
Cot and then Obviously brady's and even though he had
some other another punt return or two where he where
he had he got positive. YARDS i mean he looks you,
Know i'm not. SURPRISED i MEAN i talked about it
a couple of podcasts. Ago he looked quick in, practice,
shifty and that's what he. Looked and he showed speed
obviously on that. Return, so, uh you, Know special teams
are gonna be. Huge nobody talks about him unless they screw,

(37:43):
up and they they they came through a big time
In frankie's. Kick you, know there wasn't a bunch of,
win but it was just enough, WIND i, think BECAUSE
i think they say yesterday he could he was good
from in practice from mid, fifties so and that looked
like you, KNOW I i guessing if that was you,
know you, know pretty sterile, conditions that kick probably would

(38:05):
have been.

Speaker 3 (38:05):
Good but it got held up just a. Bit but
he's got a good. Leg he's got a really good.

Speaker 4 (38:08):
Leg it was interesting that he kicked it instead Of,
radishchick but not totally surprising BECAUSE i think that was
the plan last year with McCormick And. Radishchick so social,
teams you, know, YEAH i think you're greaty of the
native spot.

Speaker 5 (38:20):
On.

Speaker 1 (38:21):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (38:21):
Uh and the thing too WITH i Mean frankie's kick
if you go back like that thing was dead dead
down the middle like. That the accuracy on that kick
was very. Impressive in the fact that he missed it
by just you, know a few, INCHES i, think you,
know should Give indiana a little bit more confidence if
they if they are up put in that. POSITION i
do wonder, Though matt with raditchs because that was kind

(38:43):
of the theme this offseason with him was you, know
Would indiana allow him to show off his range? More
AND i think we kind of got that answer in
this game where it's, like, uh it seems like the
plan going forward is to is to Let frankie take
those you, know maybe forty five plus yarders and then
let raditchs all the intermediate to short.

Speaker 5 (39:01):
Ones, YEAH i mean that THAT'S i, mean we've only
got one game to go, on and obviously there was only,
one you, know or, WELL i Think rashtick had a
couple of field, goals but they were obviously a lot.

Speaker 4 (39:11):
Closer but, yeah right, now it looks like the same
playing they had last year with.

Speaker 3 (39:17):
McCormick you, know he was going to be until he got.

Speaker 4 (39:20):
Injured he was going to be the long field, goal you,
know like you, said forty five fifty yards or, more
And rashtik was going to handle everything.

Speaker 3 (39:26):
Else SO i would guess that's the. CASE i, MEAN
i kind of get.

Speaker 4 (39:29):
IT i, mean we haven't Seen rashtick really kick the
ball like boom, it so you, know.

Speaker 3 (39:33):
But we you know That frankie's leg is.

Speaker 4 (39:35):
PHENOMENAL i, mean he was putting everything five six yards
into the ends when even when he was kicking into the,
wind he was kicking a little bit lower when he
went that, direction which is, smart BUT i mean he's
got a big, leg SO i guess that's the way
it's going to.

Speaker 3 (39:46):
Be it's, it's you, know kind.

Speaker 4 (39:48):
Of interesting because obviously he's talked about how he feels
confident kicking those deep, ones but right now looks like
he's not the.

Speaker 2 (39:54):
Guy also worth Noting indiana's stats As roman with a
twenty eight yard kick. RETURN i can't say THAT i remember,
that and that might have been after the second, uh
the SECOND odu.

Speaker 1 (40:06):
Scorified to, GUESS i don't know IF i Remember henby
returning and.

Speaker 3 (40:10):
Kick, YEAH i. DON'T i thought it Was Van.

Speaker 1 (40:12):
Horse it might have. Been, well the the stats Has
hemvy with a twenty eight yard. Returns, okay, yeah that'll
be that'll be.

Speaker 2 (40:18):
INTERESTING i do remember in pregame warm, Ups, matt they're
they're going through the different return special teams.

Speaker 1 (40:25):
Returns.

Speaker 2 (40:26):
Guys, uh it Was Brady Makaia. JACKSON i THINK i
saw with the. Punt, Yeah Brady Makaia jackson with the punt,
returners and then it Was Van, Horse hemby And Kaylon.

Speaker 1 (40:37):
Black with the kick.

Speaker 2 (40:37):
Returners and we didn't See lebron bond with with either
of those, groups WHICH i thought was pretty interesting because you,
know he's the guy that we thought might might be
able to return some, punts punts this.

Speaker 4 (40:46):
Here, yeah, YEAH i mean to, me that's probably more
about he's a. Freshman and that's one thing we kind
of talked about last time is you, know even though
he's super, dynamic you, know it would be a big
leap For Kurt signetty to put a guy that young back.

Speaker 3 (41:00):
THERE i, mean you know he said it.

Speaker 4 (41:01):
BEFORE i think he would love to have big returns on.
Punt the biggest thing he wants is he wants the ball.
Back he doesn't want the. Ball you, know they're kicking
it back to. You they're giving the other teams giving
you the ball, back and he wants to keep. It,
so you, KNOW i get. That you, know it'd be
interesting maybe you, know you get up big and in
these next couple of games and the other team's, punting you,

(41:21):
know see What bond can.

Speaker 3 (41:23):
Do that might be a chance for him to show.

Speaker 4 (41:24):
It BUT i think if it's, critical you know you're
in a critical, GAME i think it's gonna be it's
gonna be an older, guy it's gonna be A Van
horse Or heimby on kick return or you, Know Jonathan
brady Or Makai jackson doing.

Speaker 2 (41:37):
Punts all, Right so that'll do it for The INDIANA odu.
Game indiana plays On saturday Against Kannessas, State, matt just
some quick thoughts on.

Speaker 1 (41:45):
Them, obviously we'll see.

Speaker 2 (41:47):
Here in about a little over an hour What indiana
is agen comes. Into but they should still be in
the top twenty. FOUR i, mean if they're not in
the top twenty, five that's a whole. Discussion they most
likely will be ranked. Here But Kennessas state obviously a
step down From Old. Dominion this is only their second
year at THE fbs level For Kennesaw, state and then
old Friend Dexter williams will be leading The owls at.

Speaker 1 (42:08):
Quarterback so we'll.

Speaker 2 (42:10):
SEE i think we'll see something similar to what we
saw AGAINST odu with with a lot of different options
and RPOs and stuff like, that and try to use his.
Legs but any thoughts going to that, Game, matt and
just things do you want to see out Of?

Speaker 4 (42:20):
Indiana, YEAH i mean as far As Kannisaal, STATE i
don't know a ton about. HIM i mean you can
kind of you can learn a little bit from, stats
but you, know BUT i Mean dexter struggled throwing the.
Ball he was twelve out of thirty three Against Wake,
forest AND i don't know how Good Wake forest. Is
they had a coaching. Change the guy From Washington, STATE
i think is that you know that Was Jake it's

(42:41):
A deekerve or something like.

Speaker 3 (42:42):
That he's their. COACH i don't know anything about their talent.
Level neither team did.

Speaker 4 (42:47):
MUCH i mean three hundred and seven yards Or Kansall
state three forty eight For Wake forest is a ten nine.
GAME i, MEAN i think there was a mixed extra
point By Kansas, state you Know Dexter williams. THAT i,
mean neither team hundred and fifty eight yards rushing three
point seven For Kannasall state one thirty Four Way forest
two point.

Speaker 3 (43:04):
A so it was obviously not much of an. OFFENSIVE
i Think indiana it'll be. FINE i Think KENNESALL i.

Speaker 1 (43:10):
DO i.

Speaker 4 (43:10):
Do remember THE espn does their rankings in the, offseason
and they do it by like returning. PRODUCTION i want
to Say Kanasall state was like top five in the
country and in number like.

Speaker 3 (43:18):
Today they've got a lot of guys.

Speaker 4 (43:20):
Back they're an experienced, team you, know it'll be another you,
know obviously we we Know Dix williams can. Run he's
had some knee, injuries but it sounds like he's still
got that. Ability so it'll get.

Speaker 3 (43:31):
Be a test for the defense, there you, know smaller
guy than what they faced this past. Week you, know
this is the. GAME i just want to See indiana
improving the things where they need to improve.

Speaker 4 (43:39):
On you, know when you get down in the red,
zone punch it, in you, know don't give don't have
those mistakes on defense where you give up huge, plays you,
know and then you, know certain guys look a little
bit Sharper mendoz a little bit you, know See, mccaulcamara you,
know be more of an make more of an, impact
stuff like.

Speaker 3 (43:56):
THAT i think we will see those.

Speaker 4 (43:58):
Things but then, again it's not going to BE i
think fans you, understand they're probably still gonna be somewhat
vanilla because you don't.

Speaker 3 (44:05):
Need you should not need to show a bunch to
win the next two. Games, yeah, YEAH i.

Speaker 2 (44:09):
AGREE i, mean if you're comparing it to last, year
LIKE i Think odu was better than f Like odu
is more On MAYBE i don't Know charlotte's level from last,
year Whereas Kennesaw state might be more on THE fiu,
level and then Obviously Indiana state in Western illinois or
from THE.

Speaker 1 (44:26):
Fcs so if.

Speaker 2 (44:27):
You want to kind of compare it that, way like
like this is a game That indiana once again should win.
Handily you, you especially With Dexter williams and his accuracy,
struggles like make him throw the. Ball that's pretty much
the bottom. Line if you can take away his, legs
make him throw the, Ball indiana's secondary should feast in
that regard making make force of endom mistakes things like.
THAT i don't know if you want to do a

(44:49):
final score position mat BECAUSE i think we are both
exploring expecting a blowout.

Speaker 1 (44:53):
HERE i don't.

Speaker 2 (44:55):
Know let's put the over under at like forty five
and a half points For.

Speaker 1 (44:58):
Indiana are you gonna take the over on the?

Speaker 4 (45:00):
Under i'll THINK i think it'll they'll be right around forty.
FIVE i guess IF i had to take one or the,
OTHER i might go. OVER i mean they should have
SCORED i, mean you, know they should have scored Fifty.
SATURDAY i mean that's NOT i, mean that's not. Exaggeration
they really should have scored about fifty, points SO i
think they'll be right around there mid you, know high

(45:21):
mid mid to high. Forties what's the?

Speaker 1 (45:23):
Line is it like thirty thirty six and a half right?

Speaker 4 (45:26):
Now, okay you know the. ONE i, MEAN i THINK
i think they'll be right at the. Cover you, know
it's just a lot of times in those lines you
get you you can get a cheapy late from the other.
Team BUT i think this will be something like a you,
know like forty eight to ten type of, games something like.
That you, know maybe forty eight, thirteen something like. That
BUT i think they'll be right around. That that's kind

(45:46):
of my prediction IF i was going to do, ONE
i Think indiana. WINS i think THEY i think they come.
Out my guess is this is not going to be
the most enjoyable week of practice For indiana. FOOTBALL i
Think signetti is is Is, obviously LIKE i, said wins
are hard to come. By but he made it very
clear that he was not pleased with a lot of
things they. Did AND i think there's gonna be there's
gonna be a lot of focus on stuff that's gonna

(46:09):
probably be you, know these guys are probably gonna be
kind of they're gonna be ready to play somebody else On.

Speaker 3 (46:13):
Saturday let's put it that.

Speaker 2 (46:13):
Way, yeah, yeah, Certainly kurtzignetti obviously not mincing his. Words
they're not pleased With week, one but a win's a
win In, indiana will take.

Speaker 4 (46:21):
It.

Speaker 2 (46:21):
Uh The hoosiers Host Kennesau state at noon On. Saturday
that game will be ON fs. One looks like it's
gonna be a beautiful day like in the in the low,
seventies high sixties weather day In, bloomington so hopefully this
is a decent crowd turnoff for that. One but for,
now this will do. It for this week's, Podcast Matt,
Weaver Jake kelly will see folks over on peaks dot
