Speaker 1 (00:05):
This is the Podcast that Rocks, a weekly podcast that
talks about news in the world of rock, metal, alternative
and everything in between.
Speaker 2 (00:11):
My name is Luke, my name is Alex, and my
name is.
Speaker 3 (00:15):
Rowan, and I believe my name is Kevin.
Speaker 1 (00:19):
That is correct. We have a fourth for the day.
Please welcome everyone as I pull up the right screen.
Mister Kevin Kellum off of many other radio stations and
a stand up comedian and many other things that I
met at Ridfest last year handling the media. I don't
know who pushed the button, but all done, Kevin. Thank you. Kevin.
(00:43):
Give a quick introduction to everyone in chat and everyone
that'll hear this, as well as who you are and
what you have coming.
Speaker 3 (00:51):
I'm a big heavy metal doork who like you, who
buys the cheap T shirts at the Target that say
guns and roses on them. I have opinions about music.
I work in the music adjacent world. That's where I
met mister Luke right over there at riot Fest last year.
And then I saw him. I was like, I've seen
that man on the internet. I have to have that
IRL conversation.
Speaker 1 (01:10):
Oh is that a stated? Yeah?
Speaker 3 (01:14):
And I had it before I had milort, which is
a rare thing, a riot.
Speaker 1 (01:21):
Malort. It's riots, yes, yes.
Speaker 3 (01:25):
It's Ryotfest milord, the drink you drink when you know
you're gonna fight your dad, all right, so you drink
molort and so that Hey, that's their thing.
Speaker 1 (01:36):
So yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:36):
I've worked in rock radio for my entire adult life
and have been around bands and different stuff like that,
in comedy and pro wrestling. I do stuff for sports
key to wrestling, which is popular here on YouTube. You
can hear my voice on those videos hosting those things,
so busy time for them with summer Slam. And then
I can be heard in Chicago on Q one one,
one of the really badass alternate rock radio stations in
(01:58):
the country. If you're in LA, this like the k Rock.
If you're in New York, you remember the big rock
radio stations there at ky Raw, same idea in Q
one one. You can hear me on ninety three X
right now. I'm actually I actually prerecorded tonight to be
able to do this with you guys. I'm on ninety
three X Monday through Friday, and then I'm in Rockford,
Illinois and the X. A lot of the radio stations
like X stuff. But as if I don't get enough
(02:20):
attention in talking to microphones. I don't play music, but
my mouth is my music that sounds sexual. But I'm
doing my first stand up comedy album this Saturday for
the Windy CD Comedy Festival in Chicago at Lincoln Hall,
a venue that has hosted one half of holl And
Oates and the Dave Matthews Band, and somehow I'm playing
(02:41):
there and so I will be there this Saturday at
nine pm to record my first album called Very Metal.
Heaven and Hell is the name of the album instead
of yes, thank you for getting it, Heaven in Hell
you no, no, No, Heaven in Hell. I had this
idea when I was fifteen. I now have to fulfill
(03:01):
it and get out of my head. But that's Saturday,
This Saturday. If you've never seen me before and you
want to see some comedy that has like a rock
music vibe to it.
Speaker 1 (03:09):
It's very loud and caustic and talks.
Speaker 3 (03:11):
About breakups and things that happen on the radio that
are not supposed to happen on the radio. Yeah, this
is this is the show Saturday, nine pm. Get your
tickets up on my Instagram at keV Kellum six and
then a website is Kevin Kellum dot com.
Speaker 1 (03:24):
Everyone you have homework and this is one worth of
looking up to. Also, if you are in the Midwest,
especially around the Chicago Chicago Land or a greater area,
you can come down from Milwaukee, you could come over
from other places. That's a show worth it. Alex said
she's gonna fly Rowan's going to take a train, so
come on, now, come on, it's a plane.
Speaker 3 (03:44):
It's a It's a late show by the way too,
so it starts at like nine thirty. We have some
really great comedians Erl Julie who's hosted a bunch of
different stuff, Brandon Keefer who's big, he's been big on
kil Tony is going to be a feature informing on it.
So it's gonna be pretty cool and uh and tickets
are like really really affordable and so so I'm hoping
it goes well. And you're also going to see me
cut this thing live. I have one take at it.
(04:06):
So you know, usually when they take these comming specials,
one or two shows you do, and you've seen live
albums Luke, you know where they take more than one
live album, they cut it together as one live album.
I have one singular performance to nail this, so that
is to me very very stressful. No pressure, oh pressure
(04:26):
at all.
Speaker 1 (04:27):
It'll be fine, all right, Thank you very much. Thank
you for all your patients. In the chat we started
a little bit later because obs and discorder a nightmare. However,
I wanted to make sure everyone was aware of all
the things Kevin has done. By the way, Kevin, someone
in Jack just said sports Keita. I thought he looked familiar,
So there you go. Proof that's a comparison. Appreciate it.
Speaker 3 (04:45):
So yeah, I've been with them for and full of years.
It's been a very very crazy day. W W just
announced to a multi go zillion dollar deal, multi billion
dollar deal to be specific, with Disney ESPN, So they're
going to move there, like premium live events like Breslomania
Royal Rumbler heading over there, And we just dropped a
short about that. We're gonna have a longerdo breaking the
(05:07):
whole thing down, probably in a week or two.
Speaker 1 (05:09):
Very cool for all the pro wrestling fans out there.
That being said, are we ready to talk about the
nonsense and insanity that was in Lallapalooza twenty twenty five,
in which Kevin was there for It's because.
Speaker 3 (05:20):
Apparently I saw, I saw the good stuff, so the
good stuff I can also pop U balloon bubbles on
the bullshit, so I'm fine for that too.
Speaker 1 (05:28):
So good a poet with that description, by the way,
well done. So a good friend of mine. I know
Alex knowser as well. Roe will get to know her eventually.
I'm sure Kevin's met her and knows as well. Because
also chicagoan Selina Forgrazzi, who has done a lot of
writing and festival work before, made this great write up
for the Chicago Sun Times. Corn was one of the
(05:52):
few like heavy music representatives, the only like big name
in heavy music, and apparently it wasn't as loved as
people would have hoped, especially for Lallapalooza, because it was
Sabrina Carpenter and it was many other names and then Corn.
Is that a fair statement to say for everything else
(06:14):
that you saw? I want to know first, Kevin, while
you were there, and Alison Rowan chime in with any
questions you have for this, Like you did not see
Corn specifically, but you are you aware of the Corn
shenanigans that happened or just like the reception Corn had.
Speaker 3 (06:28):
Well, I want to say hello to my fellow Chicago
media person, and I don't want to like to ride
what it was and say, oh, well, they didn't have
a big crowd. What's not a big crowd at Lollapalooza.
Speaker 1 (06:41):
Do you know what?
Speaker 3 (06:41):
Not A big crowd at Lollapaluza.
Speaker 1 (06:43):
Is five thousand minimum, probably more.
Speaker 3 (06:46):
No, this was like, okay, Olivia Rodrigo probably had like
they see seventy thousand people ching your sad be more
all right? Horn and probably had how many people out
of one hundred and fifteen thousand tickets sold?
Speaker 1 (07:00):
Good guess, Alex Rowan, what's the guests? We played the
guessing game a lot?
Speaker 3 (07:04):
Oh you tell me, like ten or fifteen thousand people
is a bad crowd? Like ten or fifteen thousand people,
then you have like an eightym stage that no one
ever leaves the whole day because they've been taking like,
you know, different stimulants the whole time.
Speaker 1 (07:18):
I like that Pago molly by the way, like it's
deep dish molly.
Speaker 3 (07:22):
So it's wrapped in cheese.
Speaker 1 (07:24):
I highly recommend it oo wrapped in cheese.
Speaker 4 (07:29):
The sauce is on top and the toppings for some reason,
around the bottoms, which kind of makes the name of
it kind of irrelevance.
Speaker 1 (07:35):
Why is there so much green sitting on top of
the molly oh whatever?
Speaker 3 (07:40):
Attack my pizza like, you don't want to eat it
when you come here?
Speaker 4 (07:43):
Calm okay, no, I don't want to eat it. I'll
look for a New York style pizza like God intended.
Speaker 5 (07:49):
Yeah, I just ate a frozen pizza for dinner last night.
I have no room to chime in on any of this.
Speaker 1 (07:54):
That's Detroit pizzas frozen New York style.
Speaker 3 (07:58):
Good for you, That's what we give the rats here,
you know what I mean.
Speaker 1 (08:01):
So I mean.
Speaker 4 (08:04):
You should serve a New York or deep this pizza.
They'll probably punge you in the face.
Speaker 3 (08:09):
I know I don't pizza's pizza, man.
Speaker 1 (08:12):
That's true.
Speaker 3 (08:12):
But no, in all serious, I didn't see corn set,
to be clear, but I know many many people that
I know from Q one on one where I'm at
it did and and we saw this article and she's
a great writer, by the way, it's just well, when
you're comparison, they did just did old favorites or this
I just think there's this thing at a festival every
year and maybe you know this to Luke, where people
(08:34):
just have this perception they get about a certain act,
it's a big name act, and they say, especially this
year at Lollapalooza, where they really just put the foot
down on pop music.
Speaker 1 (08:44):
Yes, said, we're gonna put K pop.
Speaker 3 (08:46):
We're gonna lean into Olivia Rodrigo, Olivia Rodrigue is gonna
play to the parents and have Weezer come out and
do something right as a surprise. Right, and then and
then the next night, Sabrina Carpenter and this is Lollapaluza
just saying we're a music festival for a lot of
different people, and we're much less of an alternative rock festival.
But we'll have corn and we'll have a bunch of
(09:07):
really cool bands, and we'll have Cage the Elephant on there,
who's played before. KG Elephant was awesome. They're the best
band I actually saw. I love their set. They reminded
people how good they are, how many hits they have.
They I think they play at least well fifteen sixteen songs.
And then I read this article. I read this earlier,
the one you were talking about it brings up their
set list there, and it was kind of like, oh,
(09:27):
they just like you, stuck to what they're doing.
Speaker 4 (09:29):
Well.
Speaker 3 (09:29):
I think at a festival when you have Olivia ar
Arrigo bringing Weezer out and you know, Sabrina Carpenter brings
out Earthwind and Fire, it's this comparison them when Corn
is the alternative to everything that is going on at
that festival, or a very hyper young, hyper feminized audience
(09:53):
that is well under the age of thirty. Guess what,
you got to sell beer at these things and people
with T shirts come and still smoke weed and still
buy thirteen dollars bud lights and have a good time.
They're gonna go see Corn, and you have to have
an alternative to the main thing. This isn't to deride
miss Rodrigo or Carpenter. I understand put on great shows, right,
(10:17):
and so I can respect that. But I just disagree
with this because I watched the live stream. That's how
I got to watch it later on on Hulu because
I went to Ghosts that night. I went to ghost
that was in town, and my girlfriend wanted to see Ghosts,
so that's what we chose to do and we went
with no phone, so I had to watch the stream
later on, Like they sounded great. Mind you a live stream,
(10:37):
you just get a completely different impression of it, you know.
And this wasn't like, oh, they put on a good set, No,
they just played too much old stuff.
Speaker 1 (10:44):
I was like, they're Corn.
Speaker 3 (10:46):
You want them to do I don't have a new
album and put on our new album three years.
Speaker 1 (10:50):
What is this?
Speaker 3 (10:51):
Do we just have to say someone who's a major
headliner at every festival is bad?
Speaker 1 (10:56):
Just to say someone's bad. We can't just say they're
all good? Right?
Speaker 3 (10:59):
Am I not making a point here?
Speaker 6 (11:00):
No?
Speaker 1 (11:00):
I understand a lot of Go ahead, Alex, go ahead.
I want you. I want to hear ye.
Speaker 5 (11:04):
No, No, I feel I feel everything what you're I
feel everything you're saying here, and I love your point
of view on this. I personally cannot think of any
other type of festival or any other festival obviously because
Lala did it. Where else can you go see Sabrina
Carpenter and Olivia Rodrigue and Corn at the same time?
Speaker 2 (11:22):
And have you got you know a.
Speaker 5 (11:23):
Couple of little weirdos like me who like all three
of these bands. You're never going to be able to
see them, you know what I mean, Like that's super rad.
Speaker 3 (11:31):
Yeah, was on this festival, you know what I mean,
like Ary.
Speaker 1 (11:36):
The lead t Pain, Well, what the heck? I would
have gone for that too then Yeah, I mean foster
the people.
Speaker 3 (11:43):
So you had some alt and deep pop stuff, but
I mean like it was really heavy on pop up front,
just a I don't want to say a bomber, but
I was rooting for like you know, I would have
loved to see like a muse or like you know,
I was hoping that they brought up Foo Fighters just
to be a great way for them to come back
and have a big stamp again. I wouldn't put it
past doing it next year, but you know, just and
(12:04):
there were some big after shows. The after shows are
pretty huge, you know. Those just got announce for riot Fest.
By the way, I know you guys are doing some
very cool ride fests, which is mind you how spoiled
are we in Chicago?
Speaker 1 (12:14):
We get we get all the good stuff at Chikaga. Yeah,
well the rest of us are trying to figure it out. Yeah,
we get it, we get it. These two train or
these too, Alex and Rowod are very aware that I've
been selling the mond ryde Fest for quite a while.
If I can convince the media, tell you, if I
could convince the team to approve more people, I will,
(12:35):
But man, that is a battle. If I could do that, rowing,
I get your thoughts, it is worth it. Rowing your
thoughts on Corn set lists and stuff too, like and Alex,
I want your thoughts on this.
Speaker 4 (12:48):
Is not a classic set list. I gotta say, like,
you know, people like saying like they're not like they
don't like the old staff. When I when I think
of Korn, when I think when my friends and I
talked about Corn, we're always talking about like songs for
like the nineties and really two thousands, My god, this
is an awesome set list. They got like stuff that's
from Issues and Freak and follow the Leader that's not
like their most well known stuff, but for fans is
(13:08):
like really appreciated, like somebody someone I was listening to
that earlier, dude, I love that whole record honestly, and
just like, look at the set list this, like how
can you look how can you as a core fan
look at this and not be satisfied with this? My
business solids.
Speaker 1 (13:23):
And like I do agree with a lot of the
points being made as a tactic if you know you're
head like not headlining, true headline, but like a big
name like this, and this is your chance to help
revitalize and get your name out there. For Corn to
a younger generation, you're not going to play the newest
deep cuts off the twenty twenty two album. You're going
to play the stuff everybody knows, and that way people
can get into more, especially with some of these, like
(13:45):
closing with Freak on a Leash, You're not going to
close with something that's like a big thing from the
Serenity of Suffering in twenty sixteen. Fine album, but you
want to play the bigger stuff that people know for
a big stage like that. You know, also feels like.
Speaker 4 (13:58):
A lot of like nineties Corn, and even like some
twousand stuff, it feels like they also have become memes online,
especially Freak on Elition falling away from me, Like even
if someone is not that well versed in metal or Corn,
that's like a song that just by proxy you would
probably knows.
Speaker 3 (14:18):
Yeah, yeah, you've heard it in the game, You've seen
in a movie, that type of thing.
Speaker 5 (14:22):
Yeah, going back to like what I was saying, where
can you have like all of these pop artists sorry,
and you know, all of these people in one place.
That's not the place to you know, debut these newer
songs or these more recent album songs, because it's not
like a rock heavy or a metal heavy headlining type
event where if you're at that event, you have fans
(14:42):
that are already established, so you're going to bring out
some of those deeper cuts or more recent album cuts.
Speaker 2 (14:47):
If you're at a place like this where there's a.
Speaker 5 (14:49):
Lot of not core fans or even within the same
genre fans, you're gonna want.
Speaker 2 (14:54):
To hit them with the hits like hardcore, lay it
on heavy.
Speaker 3 (14:57):
Yeah, it's smarter, it's and there was there was something
in the article like I said, great writer. You know
she she did a piece with Q one this week
or last week to preview Laula with her very own
Lauren O'Neill, and the take the comparison was to Deftones
last year because Deaftones was one of the bigger rock
(15:19):
bands that played Lollapalooza last year in Chicago. They had
a huge crowd, but they played in the day and
there was no major like there was some other There's
always opposition. You see the Sun festivals, like, ah, I
wish they this band wasn't on stage at this time,
you know, and I think they were. They just they
were slotted where they were gonna be the big.
Speaker 1 (15:38):
Band on stage at that time.
Speaker 3 (15:40):
And you put this up against Olivia Rodrigo, It's to
split the crowd, you know what I mean.
Speaker 1 (15:45):
It's just split the crowd.
Speaker 3 (15:47):
When I went and saw Paul McCartney ten years ago
at Lollapoloosa, I know they had some DJ on another
stage on the other side of the park. You know,
it was designed to split the crowd. And that's okay.
There's nothing wrong with that. And the idea that you
want corn who fight within ten years Olivia Rodrigo might
be doing the exact opposite play here, you know what
(16:07):
I mean, There's nothing wrong with that, you.
Speaker 1 (16:10):
Know, It's just I don't know.
Speaker 3 (16:11):
To me, it's like, hey, you know, why aren't you
as hip as everyone wants Deftones to be? Because they
are again and a lot of people are very young
just discovering that band. Coorn has Korn's audience. You know,
this is a band that doesn't have to put out
new music if they don't want to you, it's definitely
a tour.
Speaker 1 (16:28):
I'm sorry, but then.
Speaker 3 (16:30):
They can tour behind that for a significant period of time.
Speaker 4 (16:33):
Yeah, I was gonna say, it's definitely a generational thing,
and I just kind of like say this as like
a member of gen Z. I feel like, especially you know,
you bring up death Tones, like there are bands that
have been around for the nineties who kind of have
gotten a sort of second life through social media because
people use their songs for sound bites and all that stuff,
and deathtnes I feel like it is one of the
it is one of the bands that's at the forefront
(16:55):
from that. And that's kind of like my point too
about Corn, that like even younger people would probably recognize
this band because especially the freak on the leash, the
whole like rotten right up. I cannot, I cannot.
Speaker 1 (17:06):
Can you do that again? Please? The microphone would love
to have that, could you please?
Speaker 6 (17:10):
No?
Speaker 4 (17:10):
No, no, no, no no no. I'm doing it once
and you'll never hear it again. I will never try
that again, especially not in a public setting. Yeah, there
you go. Yeah, now people mean that to death Like
online you would just by spending some amount of time
on social media, you would hear that song.
Speaker 1 (17:28):
Yes, So final question, Uh, go ahead, go ahead? Yeah, good, okay,
So final thing before we move on, because I know
we talked about this too, and I brought this up
before for other stuff a little bit walking on the display.
But that's the current lineup that we had just this
past weekend for Lallapalooza. You could probably go through and
(17:49):
count the rock and metal and heavy music bands on
one hand. That's just how lot of police is going.
My question for all of you and Kevin is and
Kevin as well, because like a Chicago and do you
see heavy muse like ever making a comeback of Lollapalooza
with the direction they've been going the last few years.
Speaker 3 (18:05):
One hundred percent okay, one hundred percent. Silly Goose played
this year. I don't know if you.
Speaker 1 (18:10):
Guys know who. We'll talk about them later, yes, hm.
Speaker 3 (18:17):
Yeah, And we interviewed them, by the way, but I
don't know if that interview is up on the Q
one one YouTube page if you guys searched Q one one.
Speaker 1 (18:25):
This plug blub blug book Club.
Speaker 2 (18:27):
And so.
Speaker 3 (18:29):
They're a band that just went viral last year playing
a gas station. They drove up in a car and
played on top of a gas station and like just
got people to come and see them and they're part
of Uh. You bring up the gen Z kids discovering
something from a generation before them, and New metal is
like you saw the trendy. There was that big article
what like two or three weeks ago about how there's
(18:49):
this huge discovery phase of people coming back. You saw
this with Emo about three or four years ago. People
are now doing this with New Metal now. And these
are significantly younger people in their twenties and thirties who
knew of those bands are like them now they're digging
in deep. And here's the reason why. This is where
I'll call it your generation young man. Where are these
(19:11):
bands that are new How many bands that have members
under the age of twenty five are prominent in the
game right now? And that isn't a shot? Is I
think there's an audience now that wants to know someone
is validated and can go and they can relate to
them in a different way and they can attach a
(19:32):
song to a meme or you know, attach it to
a movie where they got introduced to a band. A
lot of people are getting introduced to like bands through
video games and different stuff like that, so.
Speaker 1 (19:43):
It's not the same route.
Speaker 3 (19:44):
So now when you go and do those moods, you're
going to go into something that's established to play to
that mood, and that tends to be these bands that
have a legacy that's already in place. No shot in
a younger band. There's a lot of great new bands
Get Bad Flower and stuff like that, but no, I
see these bands on again. Metallica has played Lollapaloza before.
They absolutely could play it again. Sleep Token I think
(20:08):
sleep Token is a band that is I don't want
to say a sure thing, but like if you told
me they were on Lollapaluza last year, would people be surprised.
Speaker 1 (20:15):
I don't think so.
Speaker 3 (20:17):
No, because they have a real crossover sound. Ghosts has
played it before. They've become even more of like Abba
turns metal, and I think there's an audience for that,
and people dressed up. I went and saw a ghost
on Friday. People dressed up for that. I think Lollapalooza
would love to have that element of dressing up for
Lollapalooza one day and wearing a different costume. And the
(20:38):
aesthetics are so important for Lalla, that's all a part
of it. But are you telling me that you know
Cannibal Corpse is gonna be on the lineup.
Speaker 1 (20:45):
I don't know about that.
Speaker 4 (20:47):
That would be amazing though. Imagine some brick carpets are
Cannibal Corpse.
Speaker 3 (20:53):
Here's what's settled in.
Speaker 4 (20:54):
It would never happen, would be hilarious.
Speaker 3 (20:57):
Yes, But Lollapalooza is a music to with rock bands
on it.
Speaker 1 (21:02):
Okay.
Speaker 3 (21:03):
Riot Fest is a rock music festival with non rock
acts featured and fun and unique and fun like absolutely
receptive ways. You can go to riot Fest and it's
much more flipped the other way ryot Fest at some point,
you will flip the script ride Fest at some point,
which is built on punk rock bands. This year it's
(21:23):
gonna be headlined by Weezer, Green Day, and Blink Winny two.
Come on thirty something. People buying cars, buying houses are
going to go out to Chicago for the weekend and
see their favorite bands they've seen before and see them
again and have a great time. And weird Al Yankovic
is going to be there. A lot of those people
haven't seen weird Al. I've been telling people at riot
(21:44):
Fest to book weird Al four years and he will
play to one of the biggest crowds he has ever
played to. He sold out Ravinia twenty seven thousand tickets.
He's going to play to significantly a larger audience. And
now to months three months later, you look at this lineup,
it's much more rock music. So how many of those bands?
(22:05):
What I mean, if you're a band and you're a
Blink Winnie Too, you played Lalla Blues last year, do
you want to play it again? Or do you want
to do riot Fest with your boys over in Weezer
and a band Green Day that you did one of
your biggest national tours.
Speaker 1 (22:17):
With, and weird Al's there and the Beach Boys. You
know it knocked loose.
Speaker 3 (22:22):
I mean like no no shot at Lollapalooza Lapoosa go
serve a bunch of different masters. Ryot Fest knows their crowd.
I mean, if you told me Snoop Dogg was on
this as like an outside act, there's some hip hop
on there. You know, Jim Class Heroes is going to
be on this lineup too, Rico, nasty and different stuff
like that. They're gonna have a hip hop headliner at
one point. I believe they've had some big ones. They've
(22:43):
had Wu Tang Clan there before, So I mean to me,
it's just like just know your crowd. It's a younger
crowd at Lollapoloza, so much significantly younger and uh you
know rya festus for people with sleeve tattoos.
Speaker 1 (22:57):
That's yeah, I mean that also makes sense too. I'm
want to pull up the Lallapalooza butt up before we go.
I just want to ask Alex Rowan the same question
for you. Do you see Lallapalooza ever going back to
a certain situation like this where they actually invite more
heavy music to it's because the last few years.
Speaker 4 (23:13):
I go ahead, because like Minus Corn, I'm looking at
the lineup here. The only other acts that really stand
out and I can like, uh, I can recognize our
Silly Goose who we talked about, but also Bill Murray
and Bill Murray is like cool. You know, the guy
used to be an Attack Attack and they they're heavy.
But I don't know if I would say they're metal
or whatsoever.
Speaker 3 (23:33):
Would you guys, No, they're they're they're like a faith
no more where there's that intersectionality in what they're doing
and working in like they have Like the girl.
Speaker 4 (23:44):
Who has like the saxophone, I forget her name, but
she did.
Speaker 3 (23:48):
I cut some of the set while eating, uh well,
while getting sunscreen in my eyes, which was not fun.
What I will say sucked it absolutely sucking sunscreen in
your eyes. But I will say they put on a
really good show and they played one of the side
stages and they had a very healthy, healthy crowd there too,
so you know, in this moment, played all Pouza last year,
(24:09):
you know, and put on their heavy show and did
their live production stuff like that and played a side seats.
Another thing is with these festivals, I don't think everyone
has to care about the headliners. God bless you. The
headliners are the draw. There's a lot of other bands
on these festivals that you want to go and see, right.
Speaker 4 (24:25):
Yeah, I mean like you're probably most likely you're not
going to be into every band at a festival set list.
But if you see like a lot of value in
like what is there I mean exactly, I feel like
it just kind of justifies just going there experiencing the
whole thing in general.
Speaker 2 (24:44):
The no no, no, no, no, you guys are good.
I was wait, you finish up your thoughts, gentlemen.
Speaker 6 (24:49):
Good.
Speaker 5 (24:50):
I think based on the direction we've seen kind of
rock and metal creeping up in the mainstream these past
couple of months, especially twenty twenty five, we've had a
lot of bock and metal.
Speaker 2 (25:00):
Creeping up into that mainstream.
Speaker 5 (25:02):
I think if we continue on this path and we
keep seeing more of it, you know, coming up on
the late night shows, coming up in you know, the
festivals like this, I think we're going to see more
and more start creeping in as we continue on this path.
Speaker 3 (25:16):
I like the optimism. I'll say this, Yeah, well we'll
talk about this. I wouldn't be surprised if you see
a Lincoln Park on here next year.
Speaker 4 (25:25):
That they get parking my band, which has more general
appeal or make sure appeal than corn compared.
Speaker 3 (25:31):
But it's an intersectionality where it's a band that's heavy
that has their metal audience right, can play to a
broader crowd.
Speaker 1 (25:38):
You know.
Speaker 3 (25:38):
Yeah, Questions just been there forever, you know, you know,
and so yeah, it makes complete sense. Fighters you know,
there's a short list of bands there if they could
be there as.
Speaker 1 (25:51):
We move on. There's a lot of good discussion. If
you were at Lollapalooza, or if you're going to rifas,
let us know the comments. Especially if you were at Lallapalooza,
let us know what you thought. If you were in Chicago,
if you saw Kevin and you tried to say hi,
but he was just working too hard and furiously running
around like a tornado, let us know the comments. We
are going to move on to yes, and that's why
(26:13):
he was flailing his arms. He didn't want to get hit. Yes.
Speaker 4 (26:16):
So it was one clip of like this guy going
crazy in the mosh pit. It just looked like he
was out for blood. But he looked a lot like you.
Speaker 1 (26:27):
As we got the next couple of stories, we're going
to try to breathe through a little bit, but they
are worth putting out because some of them are insane.
Is there a delay? I just heard, like the super
delay laugh.
Speaker 4 (26:41):
I heard him laugh and it was like, but I
think he laughed when we talked about him being.
Speaker 1 (26:47):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, it delayed.
Speaker 4 (26:53):
We heard your laugh. But you are stone face not talking.
Speaker 1 (26:58):
You're in You're inner. So we're gonna go to this
next story, which is ridiculous, And I have to say
I sent this to my friends here, Alex and Rowan
about this. I don't know if you saw this road
or not, but SEG with sugar Bug Extreme Heavy Metal
were held at gunpoint to get out of the venue
when they asked for their payment. That's a new one
(27:19):
that I haven't heard in quite a while. This is
old taile in style Carney wrestling. Where's my payday? It's
right here. Make me pull the trigger and you'll get it.
That type of situation. This happened in Tennessee. Sega sugar
Bag claims they were threatened with a firearm after their
show in Memphis, Tennessee, on twenty ninth of July when
the band went to collect their pay for the show.
(27:39):
They made the full post about it and they said
they had witnesses. Band's booking agents manages do not worked
for this clown. This is Corey Lichens and hopefully by
tomorrow morning he doesn't have a job. They give the
whole story, They tell everything. Well, here's the issue, the venue,
the staff members that were there that saw it. Then
the venue post said saying the venue was telling us
(28:01):
to take the post down and saying that Likens didn't
say he was gonna shoot us. And that he told
us I have a gun. That's not true. He told
the five of us he was going to shoot us.
And that's saying we breached contract, which is totally also
a made up thing. So now the venue is doubling
down with the gun toting manager of the venue and
trying to call out shaying with Sugar Bog saying with
(28:22):
sugar Bog is now doubling down again. Update, people do
not support Minglewood Hall. They called out everything eighteen eighty
four lounge. You not buy tickets to their shows and
make everyone to wear this a straight up f this place.
And they went over everything and they called their witnesses
to have everything else there because it wasn't just the
band that approached them as well about this. So thoughts
on a band almost dying because they wanted to get paid,
(28:45):
this is bothering.
Speaker 4 (28:46):
Me, they're saying. Their response, it's like, oh, we weren't
going to shoot you. It's just him saying I have
a gun. Just the implication of just that statement that's
already enough to get me on edge, be like, hey,
where's my payment?
Speaker 1 (28:58):
I have a gun.
Speaker 4 (28:59):
Have a good day.
Speaker 5 (29:00):
I didn't tell you I was gonna shoot you. I
just told you I had a gun and showed it
to you. What are you talking about?
Speaker 4 (29:06):
I actually want to because I just want to show you,
and I'm looking at for the barrel.
Speaker 1 (29:10):
And I pointed the gun right at my head like
a finger thing and then made the slashing throat a
thing across my throats. That what's that supposed to me?
You guys need to glight, not a little.
Speaker 4 (29:19):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (29:21):
So everyone's fine, Everyone is safe. Everyone is fine. If
you're from Nashville, what is this nonsense? What is going on?
I'm if that's what you want to call it? A vibe?
All right? Yeah, Iza, I am glad. Everyone's okay. Though
(29:41):
I think.
Speaker 5 (29:43):
This type of thing right then, it's just going to
be a they said, they said thing, because that's exactly
what it is right now.
Speaker 2 (29:49):
It's so they said, they said, and it's like it is.
It is just a messy situation.
Speaker 1 (29:54):
It's a messy situation. The thing is though there's many witnesses,
and now that the venue is backing up, they're rooked.
Do you guys remember Spider Man the original Spider Man
movie with Telly maguire, the wrestling guy who didn't want
to pay Spider man to Peter Parker, Oh yeah, this
is that guy, but with a gun.
Speaker 4 (30:11):
Yeah, you can probably prove that. Like if you get
the cost of all, you can just be like, yeah,
we tried to get our money because we performed this show.
They threatened to kill us. Like if that's not a
solid case, I don't know what the hell is.
Speaker 5 (30:24):
Also, then you're trying to clean and saying, oh no, no, no, no,
he just said I have a gun. He didn't say
he was going to shoot them. I feel like that
wasn't the right way to say that or approach the situation.
Speaker 4 (30:35):
What context does saying? Does telling someone I have a
gun is not with a sort of threatening demeanor?
Speaker 1 (30:42):
Hey, Kevin, have you ever heard some implication? Have you
ever asked for a raise at work and the boss
said I have a gun and then he just went
back to work? Has that ever happened?
Speaker 3 (30:52):
I did sign an NDA's okay.
Speaker 1 (30:55):
I don't want to put you on the spot. I'm sorry.
I've never asked for a raise and was told I
have a gun. So this is a pretty rare one. Also,
it's saying with sugar bog, look at these guys. It's
not though, this isn't a raise. This is right after this.
It was after the show too, So you can't say
(31:16):
like they were trying to get it early or they're
trying to scam anyone that people were already going on
from the crowd.
Speaker 4 (31:21):
Did there, Park, We performed the show. We've held up
our end of the bargain, like now we want to
get paid.
Speaker 1 (31:29):
I also love the fact that, like some scuzzy little
manager told that guy in the center where the cursor
is right now, I have a gun, like, oh, this
is gonna go end. Well, I'm sure this will be okay.
I'm positive.
Speaker 4 (31:41):
So if you like me, this man looks like he
would eat me for just to hit his protein goals.
Speaker 1 (31:46):
Oh you got to get that protein intake somehow.
Speaker 4 (31:51):
Yeah, graper body weight. That's how you go muscles, blazy
and gentlemen.
Speaker 1 (31:55):
That's true.
Speaker 3 (31:55):
I thought we were done with the whole Tim Lembiss thing. Man,
we don't have to go home.
Speaker 1 (31:59):
We talking talking about him. We've talked about him so
much last year. I I know we know it's coming
later this year too. Probably there's no way he's done.
Speaker 4 (32:09):
So you're gonna get worse. You never talked about but
he got worse.
Speaker 1 (32:14):
Yeah, so we move on to some other idiots that
man I nailed that side of yes, thank you. So
did you guys know that problematic Chris Franzac of Attila
is now going after mister Beast legit explain? Okay, no problem,
So this happened. Okay, first of all, I'm not crazy
about mister be No, I know it's legit though, so
(32:39):
the one I will say this, I am not crazy
about mister b. Shenanigans. He has tried to do some
philanthropy work. He's thought all that water work in Africa.
This is what it's referring to. Team Water is now Life.
He's put so many like actual active wells and power
like uh pumps and stuff in areas and at communities
in Africa for charity. And yes he documented it all.
He did different content, but he still did it. So
(33:02):
many people got water out of that. Okay, well, mister Franzac,
I won't go down the rabbit hole of all the
crap he's pulled. I'm just gonna focus on topic. Here's
his first post. I see a lot of discourse about this,
but no one is mentioned in the fact that mister
Beasts went to Africa and built one hundred Wells and
Toothout twenty twenty three, and they all failed one year
(33:22):
later due to lack of maintenance. I believe everyone should
always help other people, but this idea already failed. So
he's calling out over one hundred failing wells that he's
aware of, and all this everyone up to dated.
Speaker 3 (33:36):
Now when is one hundred failing wells playing Ryan Fest?
Are they have like an early band?
Speaker 1 (33:44):
I hope they have some type of water I hope
they have some type of water show, like a water
cannon or even just something that shoots out the water too.
They're missing an opportunity if they don't well. So mister
Beast came out and said, what the heck? And I
don't think so, so he went, okay, this is always
on Twitter. That's literally a flat out lie. We recently
had the one hundred hells audited because there's false because
(34:06):
of these false rumors, which he wrote, trust in philanthropic
efforts and is not cool, and the wells are working,
so okay, it's like, okay, he went the work and
he's aware of the rumors. Well, mister Frozec says, okay,
send me the audit that shows the all one hundred
wells are still working today, and I'll send five thousand
dollars to you your new water projects.
Speaker 4 (34:27):
So do I freaking hate Chris Franzak and I freaking
hate Attila so much, so.
Speaker 1 (34:32):
A little more, little more, and this is the crap now.
So now the Attila fan boys, yes they exist, started
making AI video clips of wells breaking in Africa and
saying this is what's going on due to mister Beast,
and he had to reply. Random people makes a brand
new TikTok account makes a video that's a straight up
(34:52):
lie about the wells I built, and now you're all
falling for it. This is not a real news site.
This is a random, brand new TikTok account cosplaying is one.
I'm so for being defaced. So that's what's going on
in the fight between a Killa Attila and mister Beast.
Thoughts why, Well, I think I know why.
Speaker 4 (35:13):
I think Chris is just aware that no one really
likes his band really, just besides the fucking sorry wow,
the two thousand like fans that never grewrabb there out
of middle school, and he's just desperate for attention. So
it's like, oh hey, mister Beast is like the biggest
thing on YouTube. So let me see if I can
get attention through him. Let me do this thing that
I have no actual, uh just kind of like no
(35:34):
connection to, and let me just see if I can
get some get some people to like just talk about
me online, which clearly that's working. But yeah, no, seriously,
it's just because no one really cares for Attila these days,
and I think he's just becoming aware of it.
Speaker 3 (35:49):
No, no, no, enough about CONTI is current thing, Alex.
You want to get in there now you go, please, No,
you talk about Untila, I don't want to know.
Speaker 1 (35:57):
You say something about it? Well, yeah, I don't.
Speaker 3 (36:03):
I don't know their current standing or what they have
going on, and God bless them, but this just strikes
me as like diet you know, like the diet version
of Ronnie Radkey behavior.
Speaker 1 (36:16):
Yeah, and see my thing about this too. Again, I'm
not a fan of all this stuff mister Beast has done,
Like all the human games and stuff he's played, is
like we lock this person in a box for a
week and we'll give him twenty thousand dollars if he leaves.
All that type of crap. Okay, but this is the
one you're going to call out, the one where he's
actively helping a lot of people.
Speaker 2 (36:37):
This that's what I mean by but why why did
you start this?
Speaker 1 (36:43):
Attila? Oh?
Speaker 2 (36:44):
Totally? But like why why this one?
Speaker 1 (36:46):
And why this?
Speaker 2 (36:47):
And I want to know why, mister beees responded, because
you know, he's got a ton of people talking crap
all over I mean, he's all over the place, mister
b why this was?
Speaker 1 (36:56):
Mister beast probably had to look up who Attila was first,
by the way, so.
Speaker 4 (37:00):
Probably yeah, because no one saw about Attila since twenty thirteen.
Speaker 1 (37:04):
Huh So yeah, that's that's that? Really is it? That's
the explanation of this nonsense. I hope we don't have
to bring you updates. I hope I don't want there
to be updates on this.
Speaker 2 (37:17):
So just let this one fizzle out, please. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (37:19):
I also ask, by the way, chat, is there anyone
around you like who is a genuine Atilifan. I have
never met an a Tilofan in person or online. I
do not like a single song from them. I genuinely
want to know what.
Speaker 1 (37:36):
Can we talk about? Something fun that we mentioned previously,
silly Goose getting arrested during their pop up performance at
Chicago gas station. So, by the way, this is the
second pop up performance at a gas station in the
last three weeks that ended up in bands getting arrested.
The first was at Warped Tour where they actually sent
a helicopter after them. LAPD, you went a little overboard
(37:58):
with that many cops. But also the Chicago now has
Silly Goose getting arrested. And look at that smile like
he like he looks like he's going to Willie Walker's
shop factory.
Speaker 4 (38:10):
He got what he wanted.
Speaker 1 (38:12):
Were you aware, Kevin, of the Shenanigans with Silly Goose
while they were happening.
Speaker 3 (38:19):
I am aware of it, and the GoFundMe there is
a go funny if they have it there lifted. We're
also you can text our radio station. We will try
and help out the best way we can as well.
And Jackson is certainly a man who understands how to
be provocative to find people there maybe blue of the
(38:40):
Chicago Police Department, of which my brother is a member,
and so so I understand their work on a very
busy lollapaluza weekend. You know they I don't think they
really care about the New Metal Revival to find people
at BP oil want to fill up their tank and
you're in the way. So like, I mean, you're doing
but you know, you do stuff without permits. Man, you're
(39:02):
kind of asking for I'm not saying he deserved it either,
but I mean helping pay the whatever the fine is
and just move along.
Speaker 4 (39:08):
Can we all great publicity? Though?
Speaker 2 (39:11):
Exactly?
Speaker 5 (39:11):
And this is the same thing that we say every
single any publicity is good. Publish it's true. Why else
would we be talking about it? And so, you know,
like this GoFundMe to help cover you know, Jackson's legal
fees and the bands preparing to release a new album.
Of course we're talking about it. And now everybody's gonna
be like, oh, what is this silly goos? Oh my goodness,
they got arrested.
Speaker 4 (39:30):
It's working. It's publicity quote.
Speaker 3 (39:33):
And it was after they went viral last year and
broken up and performed at a gas station. I know
where the gas station is, by the way, it's a
pretty busy area. Then this year they play Lollapalooza and
then just want to do the gas station thing again.
Speaker 1 (39:50):
So if we get them for ride Fest next year,
but uh hm hm, also the quote from Axon Foster
on the GoFundMe. We have received previous permission. We have
received permission from the manager, and we had even done
the same thing the previous year. He was gonna let
us play in front of gas pump two and for
for one hour exchange for one hundred dollars. That's a deal,
(40:13):
by the way, that is a deal. Yeah, dad, I
screw playing at the club. Guys, I don't care. That
is a deal. So, dude, I like.
Speaker 6 (40:24):
It.
Speaker 4 (40:27):
I've had like super productions at like gas stations and
we would have to pay like the owners of the managers,
like three hundred dollars just to have like like two
hours of filming there, and we could not and we
still had to like let the gas station like still run.
Basically we just had to shoot around everything. That's a steal.
Speaker 1 (40:43):
Guy.
Speaker 4 (40:43):
Talk to this guy bright next to the film project.
Speaker 1 (40:47):
Uh so, I just admire this picture. By the way,
I don't know who took this photo. Well done, that
that is gold. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (40:56):
What if the guy who runs a gas station realized
like he's probably he probably just took way less than
you should have taken. He's like, screw this more money.
Speaker 1 (41:06):
Yeah, next year, it's going to be like at least tenfold,
at least one thousand dollars. No way, less, no way.
Speaker 3 (41:13):
I want points on the album. That's what he wants.
I want, I want it back in Well.
Speaker 4 (41:18):
The general rule in film is that if you rent
out a location, like like an actual business, you have
to kind of reimburse them for the money that they
ought to have made that day, like their average or whatever.
That's kind of like, that's kind of like the usual
like procedure.
Speaker 3 (41:33):
One hundred dollars is not going to cover when a
gas station makes that Hour's.
Speaker 1 (41:37):
So what I'm saying, it's an hour, not even close.
Speaker 4 (41:41):
That's like ten minutes.
Speaker 5 (41:44):
I think Kevin is on to something here. He's like,
wait a minute, I am losing out on this deal.
Get out of here, you guys. And I was like,
I gotta pull the plug.
Speaker 1 (41:53):
Heaven and Hell to live at Pump four Elliet and
the photo cut where it's just you with a pump
in the air, squirt and gas open into the ground
and nothing will be easy. Also, I have a comedy special.
Speaker 3 (42:08):
I will say this, I have a comedy special, and
there will be fire at my comedy special.
Speaker 1 (42:13):
Oh my god, I.
Speaker 3 (42:16):
Will have Iiro Technicus on a comedy special produced in
front of a crowd of maybe one hundred people.
Speaker 4 (42:29):
Has there ever been Pyro at a comedy show? Of
context for that?
Speaker 3 (42:36):
Uh? Keviny Art when he did the he did Kevin R.
When he did one of his big stadium he'd like
it was an arena special or stam special. He came
out and did Pyro at the beginning, and they had
Pyro for him there.
Speaker 4 (42:45):
I'm thinking, you like, have like some sort of mic
drop moment where you have like this really good punchline
and then the flame just shoot up.
Speaker 1 (42:52):
Ooh, that actually does what I say Piro.
Speaker 3 (42:56):
I have say Pyro, I have something that looks like fire.
Speaker 1 (43:00):
But next album, next, next album, we'll get the Pyro budget.
So what really quick? I do want to talk about
the vague tees for bad Omens. Kevin you work at radio,
I'm sure you're familiar with bad Omens.
Speaker 3 (43:14):
Yeah, so time big band, big cross with the band too,
by the way we talk Earlier.
Speaker 1 (43:19):
They posted this, They posted the teas full production video,
hinting and that's it. They're saying in two days this Friday,
we're getting more news on new bad Omens maybe finally,
first new stuff in quite a while from the Richmond band.
Thoughts on bad Omens in twenty twenty five because they've
gone super nova with getting all the scene kids riled up.
(43:41):
It's a scenes kids splosion right now on these comments.
Speaker 4 (43:48):
Yeah, no, seriously, like or an EP or something. If
they did like a noticing with what was that album?
What was the name of the album that they did,
It was like, we're not really an album, but like,
yeah that if it's something like that, I'm so for
that because I honestly has some of my favorite bad
Omen songs ever, like.
Speaker 1 (44:04):
The Drain or we decided last year that the best
song was the one standoff with poppy violence against Nature.
Speaker 4 (44:12):
So now, but Drain is also a banger too. I
love the riffs on.
Speaker 1 (44:16):
That for sure. So yeah, just keep heads up.
Speaker 3 (44:20):
Go Horn may not want me, but I want to single.
I want to I want a big, kick ass single
I can play on rock radio for them. I'm just
selfish thinking about my own needs. But no, v an
Van as I called it, violence against Nature was a
fun song, and I agree, and that was definitely like
it also like it was a heavy song and definitely
(44:41):
this about Poppy. I think Poppy's kind of proven. It's
more that she's a performance artist who does heavy metal things,
which is.
Speaker 4 (44:46):
Fir I saw Poppy in April and she performed Van
and my god, I lost my crap that I went
hard in the much fit during that song.
Speaker 1 (44:54):
We are all pro Poppy on this podcast.
Speaker 3 (44:56):
So yeah, and it's it's very odd to see somebody
who's such a pop creation like go that route, but
she pulled it off. And also the collaboration with bad
Omens was was keen. I think they'll do more rhythmic
stuff on this record. I think you'll hear you know,
I don't call it pop things, but you would you
would hear maybe more of the production that's cleaner. Then
(45:18):
you go and see those songs and they have more
of a grit to them, and there's a lot of
bands that have that element to them. I think when
it's very produced that there's some bands to come and
see live, and I think bad Omens has a lot
of that they do. But there's nothing wrong with that
either too.
Speaker 1 (45:34):
So this next story, Alex maybe awhare mayde Roade and
I aware of this. You know the band Green Jelly
with three little Pigs, Kevin Little Peric Little.
Speaker 3 (45:43):
Oh yes, very rare, very very entertaining show.
Speaker 1 (45:46):
Yeah, you know what's not entertaining When one of the
members mates can post me about Ozzy Osbourne dying insulting
him after his death, that's not as entertaining, Alex, would
you like to explain, because.
Speaker 5 (46:00):
Yeah, let me so, I'm just gonna go straight off
of memory because your taxt is tiny on my screen.
Speaker 1 (46:05):
I'm I'm not showing the memes.
Speaker 4 (46:09):
No, no, no, no no.
Speaker 2 (46:10):
So the dude, the dude who was formerly of Green
Jelly for Good I'm.
Speaker 1 (46:16):
Sorry, formally known as Freido Feats by the way, I
mean they all have.
Speaker 4 (46:21):
Weird names, is proud.
Speaker 5 (46:26):
Mom loves freedo Feet. But he in poor taste, was like,
I mean, Ozzy Osbourne one day sober and I'm like,
believe who soon? You know what I mean, Like you
can't too soon? And in bad taste it was like
(46:48):
right after, I mean, the entire metal and rock communities
are still in mourning, like this is a huge loss
for all of the community, and I'm like, why would
you What did you think was gonna happen?
Speaker 1 (47:00):
Also, what was the end game result? Did you think
you would get the has on Reddit was that it no,
so he's not like so it was too late, like
he tried to take it down but there were already
video clips and screenshots of what he did. The band said, uh, oh,
this is too bad even for us, and we're Green Jello.
So yeah, that's what happened.
Speaker 2 (47:20):
Well, you can't say Jello. They got in trouble for that.
Remember it's green Jelly.
Speaker 1 (47:24):
Well that's the German why that said, Oh so yeah,
that's why I'm.
Speaker 4 (47:30):
Calling him Jelly.
Speaker 1 (47:32):
It's yeah, I mean, like we.
Speaker 4 (47:33):
Talked, we talked about like that one Oh my god,
what's the name of that news It's kind of like
the Onion, but it is.
Speaker 1 (47:40):
Rocked likes hard Times.
Speaker 4 (47:42):
Yeah, Like they had a joke about Sharon going about
it and be like, oh yeah, Ozzie has like twenty
more shows left with him. But that's like, but that's
just that's a brand that is established to me ye
satirical context.
Speaker 1 (47:54):
It's also hard Times. Yeah, it's also absurdist, like that's
like an impossible feats, that's something that's exact. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (48:01):
Also it has like it's a joke that has some
real life like sir connotations, but this is just like
a thing where it's such a bad taste. It's too soon,
but like it just why what party you thought that could?
Speaker 6 (48:15):
This?
Speaker 4 (48:15):
Could a man good idea?
Speaker 2 (48:17):
What y just? We say too soon often, but that
one was really too soon a day.
Speaker 1 (48:23):
Yeah, we used to trust Frido feats what happens?
Speaker 4 (48:28):
He seemed so down to earth.
Speaker 1 (48:31):
Noticed Frido feats acting odd lately. So question for you, Kevin,
have you ever been to the Sphere in Las Vegas?
Speaker 2 (48:41):
No?
Speaker 3 (48:41):
But I know what you're talking about, And my god,
this is going to cost a lot of money, but
it may be worth it. Everyone I know that's gone
to the Sphere has not complained about the experience, Like
it could be a lot to experience. But if you
love going to a concert that has a high production value,
right spear might be it.
Speaker 1 (49:02):
And if Metallica does it, they're going to make more
money than they know what to do with that a
one residency stay and that's Metallica money too. So even
if they're like that's something big Lars went on serious XM.
Because Metallica is launching Metallica Channel. It's going to be
a license one thing coming up, and he was doing
a big interview on Howard Stern. Wow, almost forgot his name,
(49:24):
which is Sacrilegion Radio. This is the series.
Speaker 3 (49:26):
They're doing their serious XM channel again.
Speaker 1 (49:29):
They sure are, and this is a broadcast radio guy.
Speaker 3 (49:34):
I enjoy serious. The when they had the Metallica channel before,
it was very good. They did a really really good
job with it, and Metallica was all over it. If
you want to sample serious, it's the time to do it,
especially if Howard Stern isn't going to be there much longer.
So so you know that's something to check out.
Speaker 1 (49:51):
So yeah, he talked about two things, mainly at the
near the end, though he did talk about the rubors
of the spear and then later the super Bowl. But
the spear was the most thing. And you know what,
I think, No, the rubs are going to be more
into fruition because if the rubs are there and the
band's up for it, I cannot see the sphere in
Las Vegas saying no.
Speaker 2 (50:10):
Not.
Speaker 4 (50:11):
This would also like them money.
Speaker 3 (50:14):
Money. It's also something where you know, if you go
to it, you know you're spending more than an average ticket,
right know what it is? You know you're traveling to it.
It's the residency thing. There's only a handful of bands
that could do this. Grateful Dead did it, and are
you know Dead and Friends did it. I know people
that went to more than one of them said it
was amazing.
Speaker 4 (50:33):
Fish did it as well, and you get my uncle
went to the Fish show and he loved it.
Speaker 1 (50:38):
There you go.
Speaker 3 (50:39):
Yeah, and if you want these experiences, REVERENDU just takes
out their phone and film something. Right, I'm sorry, that's
a part of what music is now.
Speaker 4 (50:48):
This is that.
Speaker 1 (50:49):
And you have the floor where if you want a mash,
they have that too, you know.
Speaker 6 (50:54):
It.
Speaker 5 (50:55):
Oh, let's go ahead, aw see, even if you get
nose blades at the sphere, you've got to view of
the crazy visuals.
Speaker 2 (51:02):
All around you. So I mean, it's a fun time.
I've never booed. Some videos I've seen would be it
would be so fun.
Speaker 4 (51:07):
I was gonna say, like, if I feel like a
band who was playing the sphere would want to lean
into people using their phones because if you get like
video coverage and free coverage from fans posting on their
social media channels and all that stuff, and everyone gets
to see those visuals and just see the experience, that's
going to draw more people who miss the first time
around to want to maybe like, Okay, I'm going to
(51:28):
bite the bullet, spend the money, and I'm going to
experience this because this clearly is like this is clearly
like a once in a lifetime opportunity.
Speaker 3 (51:35):
I went to the Ghost Show. I told you guys
know phones at the Ghost Show, right, it was a
yonder pouch experience at the Old State Arena this past Friday.
I didn't see Corn and Friends, it did. I don't
think you could yonder phone pouch someone for a live
show a sphere. I don't think you can ask people
to pay that type of money tell them they can't film.
Speaker 1 (51:55):
On their phone, and I think they would probably want
especially when yeah, they might want it so that yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 4 (52:02):
It'd be like it'd be like it's like some sort
of sigh up where you get people to film at
the sphere show, they post on social media and that
drives up the just kind of the demand and just
the attention.
Speaker 5 (52:15):
Really well, Kevin can attest to this, you know, as
somebody in the radio world. We've got friends that we
talked to from the labels all the time. That's one
of the biggest things. They're like, of course we want
people to go out to the shows with their phones.
It's free marketing for the tour, for the band.
Speaker 1 (52:31):
Yeah, depends on what bangers though, I will.
Speaker 3 (52:35):
I would say, Alix, I agree with you. There's some
bands that are starting to deviate from it and want
no phone experience.
Speaker 5 (52:40):
I know, Like I was gonna say, Ghosts, like you
just went to that show and they had the Yonder backs.
That's a perfect example. They don't need the extra marketing,
they don't need the extra experience.
Speaker 2 (52:50):
They've both had it like in their hole in their pocket,
you know what I mean.
Speaker 3 (52:56):
Yeah, and then maybe they'll go back to shows with
phones in the future, you know. And I think, but
this is an experience though where I think if you go,
it has to be a But also can we just
uh Tallica plays the super Bowl?
Speaker 1 (53:09):
And also if you go on Stern and you dropped it,
that's not like you're just dropping, That's that it's big.
Speaker 3 (53:17):
That's tipping your finger. That's that's pricking your finger and
putting it in a shark pool.
Speaker 1 (53:21):
That's what it's.
Speaker 3 (53:22):
That's what that was designed for. That was not done
without a reason. That the sphere conversation was not done.
We can't confirm, but let's really push up the number
here when we go to settle on the deal here.
Speaker 1 (53:33):
Yeah, and everyone's been burned about Metallica the super Bowl
for many, many years. They had the Super Bowl in
San Francisco back in twenty fifteen I'm correct, twenty fifteen
or twenty sixteen. That would have been the year to
do it, and they didn't.
Speaker 3 (53:46):
So did the night war thing. I know, I know
they've done that before where they get to do the
big sponsored.
Speaker 1 (53:52):
Sure, yeah, Foo Fighters have done that too. But at
the same time, I do see the sphere happening over
the Super Bowl if one of them happens. So also
salted the wound. Alex and I were going to see
Metallica at this year at Sick New Worlds, but that
did not happen because the festival did not happen.
Speaker 3 (54:12):
Here one's still weird to me. No, one's still weird
to me. But when you look at all these other
festival lineups, how does Lincoln Parking Metallica not move the needle?
Speaker 1 (54:24):
The prices for the tickets were way up there. We
talked about, Yeah, we talked about Riotfest, like how affordable.
It is like think riot Fest times can and that's
not an exaggeration.
Speaker 3 (54:35):
So but I also got to give the people the sphere,
which is this big, multimillion dollar thing. I did some
videos for sports keating and the other stuff they're doing
about it. But and I know someone, My brother in law,
Brian is a huge U two fan, huge, and they're
the band that opened.
Speaker 1 (54:49):
Up the venue.
Speaker 3 (54:50):
He went to it twice and that's smart, and he's
spended one Yeah, but he's also like any band that
you love if they play here, and I brought that.
I was texting with him about this, and he knows
I love Metallica and he goes, if they're playing, you
should go. Like he was adamant about it. He's like,
if they're playing you you should see them there. It'll
be an exceptional experience to see them.
Speaker 4 (55:11):
Yeah, it is the experience that's like the main driving force.
And again, like my uncle, he's like my aud His
wife spent a crap ton of money to go, like
get tickets for him for his birthday for fish but
like again, he was that happy about it that to
her and him, it was worth it.
Speaker 3 (55:28):
Alex, Alex, would you go to this would you drop
the coin on this?
Speaker 4 (55:31):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (55:31):
Hell yeah?
Speaker 5 (55:31):
The first I mean the first time I saw Metallica,
I cried just imagining seeing Metallica completely surrounding you and
the sound system in there I've heard is amazing. I
think it would be Hanno miss experience for sure.
Speaker 4 (55:45):
Ittallica was my first concert. So I am so down
for this.
Speaker 1 (55:50):
And you're such a wonderful child. I love that, love that.
We now go to the business side of our podcast. First,
we talk about the poll we did last week. Every
week now we do an album versus album, and we
gauge a live audience and like just the weekly audience
just on the community tab. Results from last week's pull
from the community tab, which Ozzy Olisbourne album do you
(56:12):
prefer Dire of a Madman or No More Tears? It
was closer than I thought. No More Tears with sixty
two percent. All right, I think it's a fair showing.
I think it's fair, you know. So, yeah, lrip to Ozzy.
Still doesn't feel like he's gone. Please watch the Pepsi Twist.
Speaker 3 (56:31):
Come you have. I've been digging deep, been digging deep.
I actually loved the last two albums he did with
Andrew Watt producing. I thought those are the two most
like complete albums. He's gone a long long time.
Speaker 4 (56:43):
And last song of his the Gods of Rock and
Roll that that quickly became one of my dad's favorite
uh Ozzy OSMOSI he's been a fan since the very
beginning with Blizzard of Oz.
Speaker 1 (56:53):
There you Go.
Speaker 3 (56:55):
I had a son, Elton John, vibe to it, and
then he did a song with Elton John. I think, man,
they did track ticket very cool.
Speaker 1 (57:02):
So now we go to this week's pool and I
will submit it after we do the pull ourselves, cause
we do with the live chat. We were talking about Corn.
We're going to Corn this one? Which Corn album do
you prefer? Follow the Leader or Issues? And while I
make the poll for our live chat, we're to go
down the line and Kevin might be struggling, Alex your thoughts.
(57:23):
Follow the Leader versus Issues?
Speaker 5 (57:26):
I think I think these are two really good ones
to put head to head because there's a ton of
like favorite tracks off of both albums. I mean, if
we go starting a you know, ninety eight, Follow the Leader,
We've got Freak on the Leash, Freak on a leash,
We've got all in the Family, Got the Life, We've
got Dead Bodies Everywhere. That one's always really fun, so
solid tracks off of that album, and then we've got Issues.
(57:49):
One year later, we got Falling Away from Me, Make
Me Bad, Somebody Someone. Those are some of the favorites
off that one. So I think these two it's going
to be kind of hard because when you take the
singles and you look at just those, it's like, oh, dang,
I don't know which one I like better. I think
personally I would go with Issues.
Speaker 6 (58:11):
Okay, yes, but that's just me. Okay, no, no, no, no,
I am right, I am right there with you. I
like I like follow the Leader. Got the Life is
my favorite Chorn song. But if we're talking full album Issues,
I just love going back to that full record a
lot more, not even just the singles, but even songs
(58:31):
like trash, like beg for Me, Hey Daddy, They are
all so great and honestly, like, I feel like those
songs are not talked about enough, Like if you guys
are just like if you guys just know like the
Corn hits, I seriously recommend like giving Issues, being that
the first Corn album you fully like listen to, it
is amazing.
Speaker 1 (58:51):
I love it very cool, Kevin, Do you have a
choice or thoughts.
Speaker 3 (58:55):
This is really hard because like Corners, like that band
that hits when I'm in high school, and like Hall,
my friends are into them and I get into them
through my friends, right, and I saw corn on the Issues.
To her it was it was the first time I
saw that nice and so I'm more inclined to that
to go with that album. But it also has more
mellow tracks on it than people, you know it kind
(59:16):
of like look over, you know, like make Me Bad
as a pretty, like on Jill, like almost makeout vibes like.
Speaker 1 (59:26):
On the on that song and baby want to make
out the chord. That is a late nineties, early two
thousand statement.
Speaker 3 (59:32):
I tell, dude, tell me there are some people with
like you know, the Piercings that didn't.
Speaker 1 (59:37):
Like, you know, both of them didn't. The guy and
the girl have both had dreads and the Jinkos on
absolutely absolutely.
Speaker 3 (59:44):
Oh come on, their wallet chains get wrapped together and
they're there are some things on There are some things
on Follow the Leader. As I look at the track
listings and I'm thinking of it, there is one thing
I love about Follow the Leader and had the thing
that you don't think of in the digital age. I
want to speak to the young gen Z representative here,
(01:00:06):
how do you feel about secret tracks? And that was
something you got. It was the secret There was like
the the Cheach and Chong secret track Earache in My Eye,
which is the Teach and Chong cover, which now if
you just pulled up the digital version of the album.
Speaker 4 (01:00:20):
Yeah, I was about to say, like, I am familiar
with the concept of secret tracks. Some of my favorite
albums have have them, like like Undertow. But uh, to
your point, because people like listed on like streaming services
and all that stuff. Or even when even back in
like the two thousands and like the days of YouTube,
(01:00:40):
and that was how I got to consume my music.
People would just be like, yeah, this album is, or
like this song has like at the very end of
this album, just go to this time stamp. So I
didn't have that experience of putting an album.
Speaker 1 (01:00:53):
You didn't know Alex the Elman the first time and
you yeah, like I say, early lived experience Browan, Alex,
myself and Kevin are all look glare ig at you
was like, you little.
Speaker 4 (01:01:08):
Sorry for being born in a year after two thousand.
Speaker 1 (01:01:11):
Back in my day, we didn't have to wait. That's
how we all sound.
Speaker 3 (01:01:16):
Right now, I'm an old man from the nineties, I
tell you what. Alright, I'm not. I'm not in the
nineties and from the nineteen nineties. All Right, I've had
enough of this. I'm gonna go to the best Buy
and buy my CDs and a compact dish foam.
Speaker 1 (01:01:32):
All right, I got a fees That was and that.
Speaker 4 (01:01:36):
Was very interesting that we're talking.
Speaker 1 (01:01:38):
Go ahead, I was gonna say that was back when
we're talking about fifty thousand CDs and every single.
Speaker 4 (01:01:43):
Day all the CDs are like in a bin in
the middle of the store. Bud's interesting that we're talking
about this, but we're talking about old formats. And I
want to give a little shout out to my bro
Paul Gannardi. He's uh, he plays jumps from my band
and he is like, literally my he bought me a
record player over the weekend and now like, oh, and
(01:02:04):
now I have been getting into vinyl and somehow my
friends tell me I have somehow gotten more douchey. So oh,
that's just been an awesome experience.
Speaker 1 (01:02:16):
Well, my vote also is for issues. The reason why
it feels like a more complete album. And I'll say
this even with the singles aside, because like the singles
are tit for tat when I talk about looking them
back and forth. But the better tracks in the deep cuts,
I feel are stronger on issues as opposed to Follow
the Leader. Follow the Leader has some straight up cheese
(01:02:37):
on it at moments.
Speaker 4 (01:02:39):
I don't like the Ice Cubes song.
Speaker 1 (01:02:41):
I see it's Fred Durst and Jonathan Davis trying to
out insult each other in a not well dated song.
So that just little things like that issues The problem
with well, you know, just a problem of three or
four minutes of them doing that back and forth to
each other a really weird monotone way and trying to
(01:03:03):
sound like they're doing a brat battle without wrapping, and
it's a weird battle. It just kind of misses the
mark for me, just a little wait.
Speaker 3 (01:03:10):
Are you telling me the line too bad? I got
your beans in my bag? You stuck up sucker, horny mother.
Speaker 1 (01:03:19):
Oh that's that is late nineties, by the way, that
is late nineties gold. I understand that product of it's
time absolutely.
Speaker 2 (01:03:29):
Oh thank you, guys will appreciate this real quick. On
to the secret track thing.
Speaker 1 (01:03:33):
Yeah, yeah, goat.
Speaker 2 (01:03:35):
So the secret tracks thing. I love secret tracks.
Speaker 5 (01:03:38):
I was listening to Astro Creep the other day and
I forgot that there was a secret track at the end,
and I just thought.
Speaker 2 (01:03:44):
I turned the radio down. So I'm driving, and I'm
a weirdo.
Speaker 5 (01:03:47):
I can drive in silence sometimes, so I'm just driving
around and all of a sudden, the new song pops
up and I'm like, the hell was that?
Speaker 2 (01:03:53):
Scared the snot out of me?
Speaker 5 (01:03:55):
That is one of my favorite memories of secret tracks
is when they're pop up out of nowhere and you're like,
holy crap, I thought the CD player turned off.
Speaker 4 (01:04:03):
Fine, I just say, like, can I just say like
one more thing that I love about Issues? It's just
about like the album cover. You guys know all the
story about how that was, like they'd had a little
context with all the fans submitting artwork that would be
the album cover and people, and I think there was
even a video where Korn was like, yeah, this one
looks like crap, but hey, we don't really we're not
(01:04:25):
really judging it based on that this could be the
cover for all we care. I want something like that again,
I don't know, I don't know if anyone still does that,
or if any bands have done anything like that recently,
But like, I would love to see something like that
in the mainstream again. Just a big band be like, hey,
we're releasing something. If you want a chance for your
artworks to be our cover, let's see what you got.
(01:04:46):
I feel like that's just a great way to interact
with fans. I would love to see that again. How
the hell did song the Leader win?
Speaker 3 (01:04:54):
Well, it's more it has more popular songs. And that's
like right when they broke huge, you know, like that
was like right around this time, is what ninety eight,
ninety nine that comes out.
Speaker 1 (01:05:04):
It's still had a lot of carrying power at ninety nine,
so I had longevity too.
Speaker 3 (01:05:08):
Yeah, and they were doing family values on that. That
was like like like really when they found a big
and they were crossing over with a pop audience and
a hip hop audience.
Speaker 1 (01:05:18):
They were MTV.
Speaker 3 (01:05:18):
They had just done the Wall, Yeah, yes, yes, And
and MTV made issues a big record too, was a
TRL you know, THEO Afternoon check in there for all
the camps being something you bring up like artwork. Though
you can see those albums and we're like for people
on the podcast. We were looking at the album cover.
(01:05:39):
You can see if you go to someone who's listened
to rock music, you can tell them an album cover
and they know what it looks like and they remember
that artwork. Me doing a stand up comedy album and
special I'm taping this weekend Cheap Cheap Plug. I am
heavy thinking about aesthetics. I wanted Kevin and Hell. I
wanted to be vaguely dark, cultish, even though I'm not
(01:06:01):
talking about any of those things whatsoever in the album,
because it's very like caustic and loud. And then I
looked at the outfit I'm gonna wear and the lighting
that's going to be used. Maybe, Alex, this is something
you could appreciate. Just I had women come in and say,
you are wearing this, You're not wearing this, and You're like,
I had somebody pick out an outfit for me, and
(01:06:21):
then I asked what the lighting is going to look like.
I got a production walk through and I chose red
lighting for this podcast here today as well, because I
was told I will have slayer red lighting behind me,
and I was like, yes, I want to look like
I'm performing on a white stripes album cover. If you've
seen those album covers, like how defined the colors are.
(01:06:43):
You know, that's what I wanted somebody that like absolutely
pops off the screen when you see it. And you
can see these album covers, you know what it is
right away and it's definitive, like you know this is
going to be dark. You know this is going to
be about the weird, traumatic things that happened to children
and about how you get past those things. I think
artwork like that in album art is hopefully coming back
(01:07:04):
in some way, but also with social media. You look
at like what Ghost does, it's a whole lore is
a big thing.
Speaker 6 (01:07:10):
You know.
Speaker 3 (01:07:10):
Twenty one Pilots has really revived that over the last
ten years. But there's plenty of bands that you don't
care about it and just put up their stuff, right Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:07:18):
I mean, so we'll see.
Speaker 4 (01:07:21):
I feel like you want to have like art in
general is just very important, especially if you're a band,
but that's going to be part of your brand, that's
going to be part of your image. Really, people are
gonna be thinking about your album cover. So I feel
like it's very damn important for you to have a
good album cover or one that just at least yeah, no, no, no,
I'm making notes, making notes nice.
Speaker 1 (01:07:43):
So the actual Hole People is now in the community
tab as well if you want to vote on that
one as well. Last poll ahead over four thousand votes
for the Azzie one. I'm curious to He'll see how
this will do for the Core and one. So we're
gonna move on. We do have one bit of news
before we get to our albums and upcoming tour and everything.
Alice has turned for song of the week, Alex, would
you like to preface what you had for your choice
(01:08:05):
for this week's choice? Yes, So I chose one of
the new Hailey Williams tracks. Don't remember which one. I
chose Luke, True Believer, True Believer.
Speaker 5 (01:08:16):
Okay, So Hailey Williams surprise dropped like this whole new
you know album. So she just kind of was like, Hey,
here's this bunch of songs that I've been working on,
and it came out of nowhere, and they were like
on her website for a little while, and you could
only get them if you were like an exclusive member
(01:08:36):
or you had the password or whatever, and then they
were gone. They disappeared from her website and I found
them on you know, the Internet where everybody can access
them now, and I'm like, damn, these are actually pretty good.
This was a fun surprise. I'm excited about it and
the song. This song specifically really jumped out at me lyrically.
(01:08:58):
I'm very annoying in the sense that I just listened
to the tracks and I don't ever know what they're
freaking called.
Speaker 2 (01:09:04):
So this one I was like, Oh, okay, I like
what you're doing here with the lyrics. So if you
get a chance, check out Hayley Williams new run of
random songs that she just surprise released, and definitely check
this one. And the True Believer is my favorite so
far of all.
Speaker 4 (01:09:18):
Of this stuff.
Speaker 1 (01:09:20):
Very nice. I heard.
Speaker 3 (01:09:21):
I heard another track from this batch of new stuff
that she's doing, which I assume is an album. You know,
she's going to do some type of album something A track.
I'm trying to think of the track that was. She
just put out a music video yesterday and then called
Big Big Ego at the Bachelotte party bar I think
is the name of the track. Layet has it and
it was it had like a cool almost like a
(01:09:43):
softer rhythmic fiono of Apple. It doesn't sound like Paramore.
It doesn't sound like a Paramore record when you hear
the singer from Paramore, but it has enough of her
in it, and I'm like, all right, okay, okay, some
big stuff. And this is while Paramore is still pretty active.
We're gonna do some shows this year. So an interesting
time for her to drop this because then you think,
all right, she's putting out solo stuff, so then she's
(01:10:05):
gonna to her solo But no, like Earmore's putting out
some big dates and doing some big things, so good
on her.
Speaker 1 (01:10:13):
Very cool. We're gonna talk about briefly some upcoming tours
and albums that got announced this week and are coming
this Friday, Alex, do we have any tours that were
announced this week?
Speaker 5 (01:10:23):
Only a couple like Moths to Flames just announced some
new tour dates for twenty twenty five. Green Theater are
going to play a Change of Seasons in full on
their upcoming US tour.
Speaker 1 (01:10:33):
That's a beast.
Speaker 5 (01:10:34):
The Almond Yeah, and the Almond Betts Family Revival Tour
is happening in twenty twenty five, so that's fun, I mean, little.
Speaker 2 (01:10:43):
Change of pace. And then Cradle of Filth and Suffocation
just announced a European tour.
Speaker 1 (01:10:48):
Okay, then that's it all. I got heavy stuff, Okay, Rowan,
What albums do we have coming out on Friday, August eighth?
Speaker 4 (01:10:56):
We got a solid lineup coming in this week. First
of all, we got the Black he Is coming with
No Rain, No Flowers, good bluesy rock band. I'm not
like the Black Keys. We got Hailstorm coming in with
ever Wrist as well.
Speaker 1 (01:11:09):
Dude, like, I'm.
Speaker 4 (01:11:11):
Excited for these next two right here, Attack Attack with
Attack Attack to the sequel Electric Boogaloo, and this is
my fuck. I added the electric Boogaloo, but Attack Attack too, Yeah,
it's the sequel.
Speaker 1 (01:11:29):
I guess electric Googo was in there.
Speaker 4 (01:11:34):
Whenever I see too, I just like to add electric
Boogaloo as a joke. That would be I'll see, that
would be on brand for them. But finally, this is
the album that I'm looking forward to the most Baby
Mauls we have Metal Fourth, I all the singles they've
released so far, with the for this album, with all
the features, I'm just so excited. It just feels like
(01:11:56):
it's gonna be such a fun record, and I just
can't wait to listen to it. Kevin again baby baby
Metal the Japanese Why, I don't know.
Speaker 3 (01:12:07):
No, I thought you said baby mouth For a second,
I was.
Speaker 1 (01:12:09):
Like, what I do baby mouth? Oh my god, Oh
my god, extreme death metal baby mouth.
Speaker 4 (01:12:16):
Yes, yes, there probably is a band called baby Mouth
out there somewhere. But honestly, like I've just been loving
the features that Da've release so far. Song three is
easily one of my favorite songs of the year already.
I've just been listening to that like NonStop ever since
that drop. I don't really get tired of it. It
just feels like it's gonna be a fun record and
I'm all for it.
Speaker 1 (01:12:37):
Very cool. Thank you for both all of that. We
have one super chat from Ellie Yeats. So this is
going to be a series all about baby metal by
the way. Okay, so imagine this baby Metal featuring Rob
Zombie and this is all like potential collaborations quick thumbs upper,
thumbs down on screen if you how you feel about it.
Baby Metal featuring Rob Zombie, baby Metal featuring Sleep Token,
(01:13:05):
baby Metal featuring Ghosts, baby Metal featuring Ice nine Kills,
baby Metal featuring Slip Knot. So the possibilities are endless
for those now in.
Speaker 3 (01:13:22):
The Future a lot of them. I had one audio
side I found.
Speaker 4 (01:13:27):
Yeah, I feel like, honestly I said I had my
thumb up for sleep Token, but honestly, thinking about style wise,
I feel like Baby Metal is too high energy for
sleep Token. I feel like they like they like to
count out.
Speaker 5 (01:13:39):
Yeah, it's kind of what I want to see it.
Because of that, I don't know how they would do that,
how it would flow. So I'm curious how that would work.
Speaker 4 (01:13:46):
Baby only like really high intense, like sleepy Baby, like
sleep Token long as like I think it was a
gage or something.
Speaker 1 (01:13:53):
Or Sleepy Baby. Is that the combination band? I think
that should work. Sleepy Baby. Yeah you laughed. Somebody laughed
at that. I'm happy that works. All right. We have
two rounds of Festival rocker Flop. Thank you so much
for hitting the like button. Please continue to do so.
We've prefaced Kevin on what festival rocker Flop is. This
is going to be either amazing or ridiculous, but you
(01:14:15):
know what, We're going to figure it out every week,
and I've enjoyed every week when we do this. We tried.
I'm just gonna have the graphic on here, so apologies
for not being as smooth as it usually is. However,
this should work just fine. We're going to book a
random festival, four bands in one day in a middle
of nowhere town in the United States. Festival rocker Flop
I picked at random. I added more photos this week
(01:14:37):
to the folder. Will it be great? Will it be awful?
I don't know. In honor of our guest, we will
be calling this Kevin in hell Fest. You get a
one day festival. Yeah, don't get too excited. I don't
get too excited because we don't know what bands are
getting yet, so.
Speaker 4 (01:14:53):
You could have a very crap lineup.
Speaker 3 (01:14:55):
Dude.
Speaker 4 (01:14:55):
It's happened.
Speaker 6 (01:14:57):
So here we go.
Speaker 1 (01:14:59):
Band number one for.
Speaker 2 (01:15:02):
You.
Speaker 1 (01:15:02):
Say that now bad number one for Kevin and Hellfest.
Speaker 4 (01:15:07):
Stained it jakes yourself, dude.
Speaker 1 (01:15:12):
For those for those who are listening, Kevin just threw
out his headphones and anger. I get so uh they
can play.
Speaker 3 (01:15:21):
They can play on one condition, one condition only mudshovel.
They just play Mudshovel over and over again.
Speaker 1 (01:15:29):
That's all.
Speaker 3 (01:15:30):
They just get one song.
Speaker 1 (01:15:31):
To be fair, He gets so drucky, forgets what song
he plays. He'll play it again. That has legit happened before,
So that actually is such.
Speaker 4 (01:15:37):
An unflattering like really captured the drunkenness I did.
Speaker 1 (01:15:41):
I sure did.
Speaker 3 (01:15:42):
Yeah, you want to hear a fun stained story, like
a fun rock radio stained story.
Speaker 1 (01:15:47):
Hell yeah, I rock went away.
Speaker 3 (01:15:50):
It's the first. It's the first. Like I'd been doing
college radio at that point for years, but I'd never
done like a big stage intro. Alex, you've done one
of these big stage intros, like they're very yeah, can
you hear me?
Speaker 1 (01:16:05):
Yes? She said, yes, Okay, yes I can.
Speaker 2 (01:16:08):
Sorry, I can't see you.
Speaker 1 (01:16:10):
That's all right.
Speaker 3 (01:16:10):
When you do one of these, don't you have like
that rush around and wait to go up and just
talk in front of a lot of people for like
ninety seconds at the most sometimes right, So, like it's
it's this anxiety to do it. And so I get
told the entire station is going to go up, We're
going to go all the way to one side, from
one side of the stage to the other. While I
(01:16:33):
believe see there was getting their their set taken down
and Stained because our headliner was going was going to
do it. Nope, there's no problem on Stained or their crew.
It's really you know, the crew people are great. You
know in the band that I have no issue with
the band either. I'm just goofing. But I heard someone yell.
Because I was at the front of the line, I
had to get all I was the one who was
(01:16:53):
told like, you have to get to the other side
of the stage the quickest because you're the front of
the line. Well, I'll throw out T shirts. This is
one point point win.
Speaker 1 (01:17:01):
Get out there.
Speaker 3 (01:17:02):
I ruined the stage intro because I was told I
don't have the street cred. In Waterloo, Iowa, where they
have more roads than streets, I don't have the street cred.
Do the intro there at the Kyle Palace of Waterloo, Iowa,
literally as they show off cows there for their annual
Kyle Festival, so that smells like cows. But has see
(01:17:27):
their in stain playing that night because it is the
closest they have to an arena in town and it's
a fun venue and it sounded great.
Speaker 1 (01:17:34):
They have me.
Speaker 3 (01:17:34):
I run out because I hear all right, well, when
when we said go a bunch of crew people run around,
I hear go ad d brain. I dart out there
much faster. I am now after them. Our young gentleman
Rowan join the challenge we'll have a foot race when
we meet. Beat me my ace.
Speaker 1 (01:17:56):
I'll always.
Speaker 4 (01:18:00):
Just give me a time and placement.
Speaker 3 (01:18:01):
I'm there, get out there. I run out there, they
run out there. I turn and no one else from
the radio station is with me, none of them. I
ran out on stage in front of ten thousand people
and the crew is just there and I'm like ah,
(01:18:23):
and they're all just doing work. And then the guys
and the crew go, oh, you came out too early.
And I just in front of ten thousand people and.
Speaker 1 (01:18:35):
Then walk back, walk and like everyone's looking at you,
like uh huh, yep, yeah, yeah, look what you did?
Speaker 3 (01:18:47):
You did?
Speaker 1 (01:18:50):
Oh my god, I heard go.
Speaker 3 (01:18:52):
Because it's really loud, and a bunch of people are
yelling to me, yelling at each other.
Speaker 1 (01:18:56):
I heard go, all right, so I just went.
Speaker 3 (01:18:58):
I thought I was supposed to go. And I was
at the front line of keeping in this nice little
pocket and you're just waiting and being told to go
do your thing for thirty seconds for people. And then
they brought the curtain down and they did the stage
intro in front of the curtain, which doesn't have the
umph at all, and the shirts out. It was I
(01:19:20):
was fired from that radio station a year later.
Speaker 1 (01:19:22):
So that's a worst case scenario. But you're doing better now.
And you know what, We're gonna get a better band
right now. Band number two for Kevin and hell Fest.
Speaker 4 (01:19:33):
I'm saying he's got a better band. We don't know that.
Speaker 1 (01:19:36):
There you go, my babe. That's fun. Yes, all right,
mud Vane, I think it just seeing them on their tour.
Speaker 4 (01:19:44):
I'm seeing them on this tour. I cannot wait for
the show number three.
Speaker 1 (01:19:50):
A perfect circle, all right, on ahead.
Speaker 3 (01:19:54):
I just saw a perfect circle on the Sassanta tour
last summer. Another no phone ex experience, very enjoyable experience
to see bands cut every half an hour to another band. Yep,
I thought that was very very cool there. Other people
should do this asana thing. Yeah, other bands should figure
out a way to do that package. They're switching back
and forth. It's very different and you're very different. And
(01:20:16):
then you all right, who is it who did Okay?
Speaker 1 (01:20:20):
Poison with Brett Michaels.
Speaker 3 (01:20:24):
Heaven and Hell is My comedy album recording September ninth,
got my plug in, Bye.
Speaker 1 (01:20:27):
You get Heaven and.
Speaker 4 (01:20:30):
Brett Michaels maakes some rage. Quinn he pulls on me
all right.
Speaker 1 (01:20:36):
See, folks, he gets heaven and hell, he gets two
bands he loves, and two bands are the best chat No, no, no,
Like you can decide which band you want is the headliner.
That's that's how it always is. Oh oh, i'd say
a perfect circle is headline.
Speaker 3 (01:20:55):
Yeah yeah, a perfect circle, a perfect headline. Poison can
be like a weird in the middle act. You know,
mud Vane can get the day going. Get no, no,
I would put mud vein before.
Speaker 1 (01:21:09):
I would go.
Speaker 3 (01:21:09):
A perfect circle, mud vein top down, a perfect circle,
mud vein stained. No, no, I would stained open hard right.
Speaker 1 (01:21:18):
It's difficulty, okay, big kids, all right, so poison. Yeah,
I'm on the fence about this one, Alex. What do
you think we all have? That's the question?
Speaker 2 (01:21:34):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, I think a perfect circle and mud
vein would be fun.
Speaker 1 (01:21:38):
I will go. I may not be able to make
this one.
Speaker 3 (01:21:45):
You know what I think poison in this lineup is
a fun effery act added to something like I like
the idea of just like, Oh I know of them,
but I would see them in this lineup that they
could be entertaining.
Speaker 1 (01:21:58):
There's nothing to it, you know, Rowan, how about you.
Speaker 4 (01:22:03):
It's so vast, it's such a wide spectrum. It's like
two bands I love and two bands I really do
not like.
Speaker 1 (01:22:09):
I'll go.
Speaker 4 (01:22:10):
I'll go to the show because I love mud Vane
and Perfect Circle that much. But for the two ex Kevin,
I'm grabbing a beer.
Speaker 5 (01:22:15):
With you or something like, I'm totally singing along to
the Poison hits. I'm not gonna lie to you. I'm
totally singing.
Speaker 3 (01:22:23):
Women still fall for Poison. There's something I like Poison.
Speaker 4 (01:22:27):
I watched Meet Canyon cover do a video where he
covered the first season of that Brett Michael's dating show.
Yeah that's what it was called, and it's so trashy.
Speaker 1 (01:22:39):
I mean Rock of Love Dude via classic all right. Yeah, well,
it looks like a lot of people are willing to go,
but they're either showing up late or they're distancing themselves
during the time. So you know what, that does count
as a slim success for Kevin and hell Fest. We
also have all right last Festival day Fest, Thank you,
(01:23:00):
get Ellie Eat for your super chat. Here we go
bad number one for yeat Fest. We got Fallout Boy Okay, cool, Yeah,
this was last year. This was rid fest last year. Okay,
number two I thought for a second, yeah, number two,
bullet for my Valentine, all right? Cool? Number three, idols
(01:23:27):
all all over the place. At number four Sick Puppies,
I'm in a Sick Puppies new album. Very underrated.
Speaker 3 (01:23:38):
I have not heard very underrated they have. They have
a line when you can put the line, uh, tell
your boss to go jump in a lake, and like
it's funny and like they had a fun song that
was genuinely funny. It had that theory of a dead
man poppy rhythm to it, but the bass is so
heavy and mixed really well. I don't know if it
(01:24:01):
if it caught on a rock radio, but I we
did spin it for a bit on the X and
ninety three Acts before I jumped on there in March,
and I genuinely thought it was a really fun funny song.
I think there needs to be more funny, like lighthearted,
smart ass rock songs like twanging, like oh, Bottle of
the like there's something to that, but like something that's
(01:24:23):
like funny and has like a little bit of a
like Offspring has songs like that and stuff like I
would love to hear more of that, like I it
had definitely the especially with the new singer. They figured
it out.
Speaker 1 (01:24:33):
Too, AND's great.
Speaker 2 (01:24:35):
I spun that track as well.
Speaker 1 (01:24:38):
I'll get em. You're good. Yeah, Alma's always been solid.
Speaker 5 (01:24:41):
She's with fan right, Yeah, she's an amazing to get
more pussies, I only still know You're going Down.
Speaker 4 (01:24:48):
That's the only sick puppy song. I still only know.
Speaker 1 (01:24:52):
So we got a lot of yes is. So that's
two days worth the festivals we were able to get out.
I'm happy with that. I want to say thank you
again to our chat room for Haggett with us as
we started lates. I also want to thank Kevin for
joining us. Kevin in Hell fest was the success, Kevin
pluck One More Tide. You're Kevin in Hell recording if
you would well, I.
Speaker 3 (01:25:13):
Hope Kevin in Hell the album taping I'm doing this
Saturday is a success.
Speaker 4 (01:25:17):
Man.
Speaker 3 (01:25:17):
You know, we're fighting. Every ticket counts. So even if
you're not in Chicago, you know someone that's in Chicago.
Tell them what I'm doing. Go see my stuff. If
you like it, tell someone else to go and see it.
Share the linker you think it really matters. I mean,
and also that helps out with the show. If you
enjoy the show, tell people to watch the show. You
know that means something. Even though I'm still on the air,
I tell people this all the time. If you like
(01:25:38):
it band, get behind them and tell people like that band.
That's how things really grow. So yes, I am trying
to move tickets here. I have a good little number
here and hopefully I have a great walk up for
this Saturday nine PM show, so late start. A lot
of great comedians. If you ever watched till Tony Brandon
Keefer who crushed in that show, is going to be
opening up for.
Speaker 6 (01:25:59):
Me on this.
Speaker 3 (01:26:00):
I'm going to take my album I have. I went
through a breakup on the radio. It happened on air
while I was live.
Speaker 1 (01:26:08):
Awkward.
Speaker 3 (01:26:09):
That is all displayed on the album. Awkward is not
the word like like like awkward. There's other words beyond
awkward that's on the album, like being like a weirdo
kid and my family and the Black Sheep. I think
rock people kind of associate with that. So all of
that is going to be on this record. So even
if you don't come and see it, it's going to
come out later this year. Follow me on the things
(01:26:31):
I'm going to hopefully try and get a record deal
with it too, And so I've talked to some people.
I had a conversation with some of today that was promising,
But yeah, come out. It's an independent, completely independent thing.
I'm putting my own money, my own time and energy
into recording this, and you guys know what that's like
to like, you know, get and you're asking all the
favors of people to come and film things, and I'm
(01:26:53):
having people build like flame towers, like it's a like
a high school theater production. And my mom and dad
are going to come and hopefully be a little drunk
before they get there so I can swear in front
of them, and I feel weird. So yeah, so yeah,
I had that conversation with my mom. She's like, well,
I just hope it's not, Oh you're you're not crude? Crude?
Speaker 2 (01:27:14):
Is it?
Speaker 3 (01:27:14):
In a very old word ware saying don't say r rated.
Speaker 1 (01:27:17):
Yes.
Speaker 3 (01:27:17):
And then on the phone I said to my mom,
I was like, well, Mom, I'm gonna half around when
I get up there. So I just said like, hey,
hang in there, mom, I think you can handle.
Speaker 1 (01:27:25):
It as well as you don't point out your mom
right after the crude joke. I think you'll be okay, like, oh,
by the way, look.
Speaker 4 (01:27:31):
She rode number two.
Speaker 3 (01:27:34):
She's half the act.
Speaker 1 (01:27:40):
Alex, do you have anything before we get going?
Speaker 2 (01:27:43):
Nope, I'm good Rowan, how about you?
Speaker 4 (01:27:46):
I'm good man?
Speaker 1 (01:27:47):
Yeah, awesome, Thank you guys very much. And finally, before
we say goodbye, it is time for Alex to try
to get it with the dad joke. Last week she
did not get us a laugh. The week before she
got a walk out for me, So she's on a
last week was my best work? Oh this is not
(01:28:08):
what I would have used. Two weeks ago.
Speaker 4 (01:28:10):
Might have been one of your best joke was great, yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:28:13):
Two weeks ago. Okay, So all right, Alex, you got
three people, you make one of us laugh. Success. Here
we go.
Speaker 2 (01:28:21):
Man, I don't like the pressure.
Speaker 1 (01:28:23):
Well you know the game.
Speaker 2 (01:28:25):
This might be a flop. Okay, I don't know whatever.
Speaker 4 (01:28:28):
I was ready fire chat make me laugh before the joke.
Speaker 2 (01:28:34):
Stop looking at the chat row and you're gonna ruin it.
Speaker 1 (01:28:37):
Okay.
Speaker 5 (01:28:37):
I have a bunch of dead batteries that I've decided
to give away. Okay, they're all free of charge.
Speaker 3 (01:28:47):
I heard.
Speaker 4 (01:28:50):
Laugh A lot of.
Speaker 1 (01:28:54):
That is a successful dad joke for the week. Ah, yeah,
thank you all. Guess well, I don't see that at
least was an innocent one. I'm okay with that one
because you know what, it made sense, there was a
cause and effect to it. I'm fine with that one.
Gonna get getting Alex back on the win loss column
for wins. That's see someone Chap just said to someone
(01:29:17):
got you got someone in.
Speaker 5 (01:29:18):
Channelso oh yeah, I'm saying over here thinking last week, Hey,
this isn't Philly.
Speaker 1 (01:29:23):
You can't throw batteries. No, stop throwing batteries. Jerks with you.
Speaker 3 (01:29:31):
So you're telling me that the batteries doing church and
why you can get the batteries You go to the
wall wall and then you go to the Philly Eagles
gave me through batteries in the Santa Claus So she did.
Speaker 1 (01:29:41):
That wasn't nearly nupper, Yes, they absolutely do. Also, that
wasn't nearly enough profanity to gethic.
Speaker 3 (01:29:50):
Well, I was trying to observe the rules of podcast.
Speaker 1 (01:29:53):
YouTube has Yeah, YouTube has a fit with that. So
thank you all so much. We will see you next week.
Hit up the link. I will pin the link to
Kevin's stand up special and everything else. In the pin
Common tomorrow morning. Thank you all. I have a great night.
Charge your batteries. According to Alex
Speaker 2 (01:30:12):
Yeah,
