(00:20):
Everyone, and welcome back to thisedition of The People Podcast. I'm Jim
Williams, your host, and Icould not not be pleased to welcome back
my partner in crime, Alan J. Steberg. Alan is one of the
most insightful voices not only in Republicanpolitics, but in the entire political arena.
He's been involved in campaigns most ofhis adult life. He has served

(00:44):
as the Regional administrator of Region twoof the Environmental Protection Agency during the administration
of former and George W. Bush, and as an executive director of the
New Jersey Sports Medal Commission under formerNew Jersey Governor Christie Whitman. Allen,
Welcome back, my friend. Delightedto be here with you this morning,

(01:06):
Jim. You know Alan, andwe are at the end of the week,
which by we like doing these thingsat the end of the week because
we can, you know, kindof take what we've seen over the week
and try for the listeners to togive them this truth of what is going
on out there. We're not goingto spend something ut We're giving you factually

(01:32):
what's going on. And the blocksthing that hit in the last twenty four
hours came from what we know thewriter for The Atlantic, Goldberg and jeff
incredible piece and his footpiece about PresidentTrump view of the military and military service.

(02:00):
I'm gonna tea up here, Bud. You read Jeff's peace your thoughts,
you know, Jim, I tryto keep the politics of my life
as much as possible away from thepersonal, and this is one of those
cases where it's very hard to do, because the difference between Trump and a

(02:23):
lot of political figures with whom Idiffered severely is that he not only is
offensive to me in terms of theway a president should conduct himself, he
offends every sense of values that Ihave, in this case, the values
of patriotism and the values of appreciationof the sacrifice of our patriotic, fallen

(02:46):
and wounded heroes of the past andpresent. Now, Trump people have a
tendency of just being dismissive of allthe evidence that is in front of them.
They will come up with every excusein the world to say that the
Jeffrey Goldberg piece isn't true, eventhough there has been a corroborative piece written

(03:08):
now by Jim Laporta of Associated Press. There's nobody who can sincerely doubt this
article. But Trump people will goto the ends of the earth to try
to discredit. But I'll tell youwhat is on my mind this morning.
I remember the administration of Richard Nixon. Now, Nixon could have been a

(03:30):
great president. He had the foreignpolicy skills, he had the insights,
the ability to communicate, although hewas hardly a charismatic individual, but he
put his personal ambition ahead of hispatriotic values. In the case of Trump,
there isn't even any sense of patrioticvalues. Nixon was a patriot who

(03:53):
was loyal to our prisoners of war. He was loyal to those who had
perished in the service of our country. He had served our country and enlisted
during World War Two, even thoughhe could have gotten out of it as
a Quaker, as a conscientious objector, but he served. But again,
he put his ambition ahead of hispatriotism. This is a man who is

(04:15):
unworthy of being commander in chief. He's not going to be re elected,
but we are going out Trump Trump. Just making sure that that's correct.
I'm sorry, I'm glad you correctedthat. Okay, But again, Nixon
was a person who was a humantragedy. There's nothing tragic about Trump.

(04:39):
He is just playing evil and he'sgoing to lose this election, but we
are going to go through two monthsof unbridled hell where this country is divided
worse than ever before. And evenif he loses substantially, which I believe
he will, we are going togo through a period after that where he

(05:00):
will try to make every excuse fordiscrediting the election and refusing to leave office.
He is the greatest danger to Americandemocracy since the inception of the Republican
seventeen seventy six and the Constitution inseventeen eighty seven, more of a danger
than the Civil War was. Youknow, one of the things that I

(05:27):
did this week is I did oncovering the campaigns over the year. Obviously,
you and I are both in themidst of covering, you know,
the twenty twenty race, and Isaid that, you know, I felt
that that Biden would win. Imean, in twenty sixteen one a little

(05:53):
right around three million votes, Iassume that Biden will be in that same
ballpark, you know, three millionplus or minus. It's still going to
come down to the two seventy electoralCollege. And I felt that because of
what happened during twenty eighteen when Iwas really focused on the swing states and

(06:18):
specifically checking out the Detroit area, because you remember that Michigan was swung by
twelve thousand votes in and around Detroit, and there were seventy five attorneys in
Detroit in twenty teen. There's goingto be over three thousand, five hundred

(06:42):
attorneys. In two thousand, wehad the situation with Gore and Bush where
I remembers the hanging chads, andI spent it with my life at that
point twenty four hours a day, just you know, going through through that
situation of the recount, I canhonestly see this election could be to really

(07:12):
where we're six for this, wherethere's that this goes to litigation. It
could be a month or so thatwe know who wins. Thought it could,
Yeah, yes it could. Letme tell you what makes me confident
that at least will be resolved decisively. I know Steve Cornaki from his years

(07:36):
of covering New Jersey. He's afriend of mine. Sure, and Steve
was extent. Yeah, Steve hasbeen on MSNBC. I always thought he
was a good journalist. He's becomea super journalist. The two leading election
journalists in America right now I feelare Steve who has a great macro knowledge

(07:57):
of the election and the issue, the themes. The best micro student of
elections is John King, who wason CNN. He can study every state,
what parts of the state are in, what parts are going to influence.
So between the two of them onelection nights, I do a lot
of switching. But Steve put itvery well. And the posters were actually

(08:22):
right. In the year twenty sixteen, they called the election nationally for Hillary
Clinton in a popular vote by twoto three percent. It was just a
distribution of that margin that enabled Trumpto win in the electoral college. If
Biden wins by more than five percent, he will not lose any electoral college.
You know, I look at allthe state by state polls and I

(08:43):
can go crazy and all the data, but Steve made it simple for me.
If it's more than five percent,Trump is going to lose. And
right now Biden is winning by sevenpercent average in the polls, I think
it's going to be more than atat the end, I think Biden had
a terrific week and I think thatTrump had a terrible week. Because I'm

(09:07):
going to be doing a calm onthis. The Trump message, the law
and order message, is actually destructiveto his campaign. This is not the
racist nation that Trump supporters want itto be. It really is not.
And I think that message is backfired. And I can get into that in
depth at a later point. Yes, exactly. So. I think that

(09:30):
we will have a clear outcome atthe end. But in between, but
as you quite properly said, weare going to have litigation. It's a
good thing that the Democrats. AndI'm not even a Democrat. I was
a lifelong Republican, but I'm notgoing back to the Republican Party. It's
a racist party anymore. I'm notnecessarily joined the Democrats when I'm back in

(09:50):
just about every single Democrat in acountry in this election. But I think
we will have a decisive outcome. It's just that the next two months are
going to be so bitter, sopolluted by Trump, so destructive of norms,
that the Republic is going to findit's social fabric rent. This is

(10:11):
a profoundly evil man. There hasnot been a man this evil that has
ever occupied the White House. Now, you know, because of your relationship
in New York, you're certainly familiarwith the Kushner family. You've cut Jared

(10:35):
and Stephen Miller, who basically arethe de facto campaign surrogates and advisors for
the president. They got one noteand it's not a good one. But
you know, the one thing Iwanted to just focus here on just for

(10:58):
a moment, for we've break andcome back with some lightning round stuff.
Um. I looked at it's gonnabe six states in about twenty five counties,
okay, and we're gonna channel ourbuddy Steve Kornack here. Um.

(11:18):
You know, but I over onthe Philadelphia side, doesn't win. If
he doesn't win Pennsylvania, it doesn'thappen. Now. For many years,
Joe Biden was considered Senator of TataPennsylvania because of, you know, Delaware's

(11:39):
proximity to the I've actual I'm sorryto the to Philadelphia in the Delaware Valley.
Um, let's talk about the Phillysuburbs. I mean, you know,
Philly suburbs. Your your family livesin Philly suburbs. Can he pull
off a win in Philadelphia? Areyou talking about I'm talking about I'm talking

(12:03):
about purd and Philly. Trump firstin Joe Biden, I don't think that
Pennsylvania is out of reach yet forTrump, I think Biden will win.
And the reason I think Biden willwin is he's not going to make the
mistake that Hillary Quinton made that justnot paying sufficient attention to Pennsylvania. At

(12:28):
the end, I think the Phillysuburbs have changed, as you know,
over the years, dramatic. Theyused to be a bedrock. They were
a bedrock of Republicanism for many years. Western Pennsylvania, where I grew up
at one time, was almost solidlyDemocratic. But Western Pennsylvania changed. If
you ever watched the moment movie TheDeer Hunter, and I can't watch that

(12:50):
movie without crying because I grew upin a suburb of Pittsburgh that was very
much like Clarion, which was thelocation of the year Hunter. I went
to school with guys who didn't havemy advantage. I grew up in a
middle class family. I can goto college. I wasn't subject to the
draft. And these friends of minewere killed in the war, many of

(13:11):
them or else wounded for life.So I was fortunate that that movie really
hits home with me. But Trump, and this is the irony of it
all, who is an anti patrioticman took advantage of the anger there was
towards the government for many years amongpeople who grew up in western Pennsylvania who

(13:33):
were damaged by the closure of thesteel mills. When I was a child,
if you had a job in asteel mill or Atta Alcoa aluminum in
the suburb by lived in New Kensington, you were in You were really in
great shape. You had a jobwith benefits, You could afford just about
anything a house, paying your mortgagewas nothing. And all that went to

(13:56):
hell. These suburbs of pitts Burgernow permanent slumps. The city of Pittsburgh
has come back, but with amuch lesser population. So the city sort
of reflects a new America. Itreflects the middle class, the educated middle
class that is the backbone of theDemocratic Party. Now the suburbs and most

(14:20):
of western Pennsylvania, it's like JimCarville said, it's like Alabama. It
reflects whites without a college degree, white men and women without college degrees who
are working class and have to struggle. That is the That's why Trump does
have support in Western Pennsylvania, EasternPennsylvania, northeastern Pennsylvania is pretty much Trump

(14:41):
Country. To a large extent thePhilly suburbs I think will be pretty solid
for Biden. And that's why Ithink Biden to win. I think Philadelphia,
you're going to have a huge AfricanAmerican vote, which you didn't have
for Hillary. African Americans supported Hillary, but not enthusiastic. The most enthusiastic

(15:01):
support any white man ever received fromAfrican Americans in this country was Bobby Kennedy.
Now, Joe Biden is not belovedby African Americans, but he's very
much trusted. He's very much likethey feel that he's like they feel,
he's a member of the family. And he will get out a big vote
in Philadelphia, and that's why Ithink that he will carry Pennsylvania, but

(15:24):
not by the margins that he willcarry other swing states. I think he's
going to carry Michigan by a bigmargin. I think Wisconsin by a big
margin, Pennsylvania by a lesser Martinmargin. If Biden wins Florida, the
rodeos over the ball game is over. I'm going to rely on that for
on you, Jim Williams, you'remy Florida guy. Well, right now,

(15:48):
it all depends before and you knowthis as well as I do.
I have been in the past fiveelection cycles, the margin of victory in
Florida has been less than two percent, and in the last three cycles it's

(16:15):
been a percent or less. Sothat's how split Florida is almost straight down
the middle. In twenty eighteen,Andrew Gillam lost to Ron De Santis by
less than thirty thousand votes, andBig Scott, the former governors state,

(16:41):
beat you know, Bill Nelson, incumbent senator, by twenty votes. So
you know that again gives you areflection of how close it's likely to be
in Florida. I you know,it's a toss up right now. I

(17:03):
think Biden is in the poles, you know, around two three percent.
I really don't pay attention to thepoles because they really don't reflect what you
know. And you know, andI've been down this road many many times.
We have You and I are poleroads. Ras we're not, you
know, we're That's something I don'tpay attention to roads. I mean,

(17:26):
I look at signs in people's yards. How the buzz is you know?
Uh, because poles people tell powlersand polsters at anything they want to hear.
Right, Um, you know, there there's there. It's true.
I really think Florida's going to beI mean again, be close. It
could be. You know, Ican't honestly say, well at this point

(17:48):
in time, Um, I can't. I would say at this particular moment,
I think Trump will win close,a close victory in Florida. But
there's you know, two months ago, and we'll leave it. I do
believe going to be close there.I agree with you about Michigan, which
against a different situation. I've spokeunto a number of people in Michigan who

(18:12):
are you know, party people,I mean one of you, and I
do that that I think people needto take you behind the ropes here,
folks for a minute. You needto know what's going on literally around in
these areas. As I said before, the six States, there's twenty five,
twenty seven counties. I talked tosupervisor of elections in these counties.

(18:36):
I talked to people who are youknow, journalists who have covered the states
and in some case or the countythat we're talking about. And and sometimes
it's a radio guyers, sometimes it'sa TV pop you the honest appraisal of

(18:56):
what they think is gonna in thosecounty. These and when you think about
it, in a country of threehundred and three million people, the fact
that the presidency really, you know, lies in six states and twenty three
or twenty four counties, that givesyou a real idea of the deal.
From the Furm Stipponio, he saidthat all politics are local, and in

(19:21):
this particular case, in these particularstates, well, and it's very,
very crucial. So I'm going totake a quick break. When we return,
blighting around for what's happened this weekend. Thank god got my buddy Allen
Steinberg as myman. We shall return. This is the Politically Correct Podcast.

(19:48):
Hey, folks, let's talk alittle bit about my new friends at Ground
News. Now. It's an appthat I've got on my phone and we're
all newsy right. I mean, let's be honest. You wouldn't be listening
to the Politically Incorrect Podcast if youdidn't like the news. And you know,
one of the things we like aboutthe news, or we hope to

(20:11):
like about the news, is thatthe news is not bs. That we
know that the news we're getting isreal news and not news that has a
slant to it one way or theother. World there's a way to make
certain that you know that the newsyou get are getting where it's coming from,

(20:33):
whether it's slanting one way or theother. Look in many ways,
all news in some ways or biasright, and the reporters may add bias
language consciously or unconsciously, but theoutcome is the same. You get biased
news and it impacts how you seethe world not ground News is a brand

(20:53):
new app and it's easy to canget it at the Google Play Store and
get at the App Store for thoseof you who are on these Apple devices,

underlying political bias in published news stories. Again, as we said before,

(21:18):
either consciously or unconsciously, there isalways a little bit of ISAs but how
much and where's it coming from?Well that's what Groundnews does. Ground News
synthesizes this for you and breaks itdown in fascinating way. It's truly fascinating.
It's you, Frankly, it's agroundbreaking, first ever news comparison platform.

(21:41):
There's nothing like it. Ground Newscollects data from over fifty thousand news
sources, runs it in real timemedia bias tracking, then the coverage bias
rating is given visually shown alongside thestory, so for every story you read,
you can compare how reporting cross sourceswith different political biases. See if

(22:03):
the coverage from the story excuse moreto left or to the right? Hopefully,
hopefully it's somewhere in the middle.I mean, this is a news
person's dream. Okay, this isgeek out stuff. Okay, you guys
are going to freak out about it. It is so much fun. Ground

(22:23):
news represents the larger bovement the peoplewho frankly are fed up with traditional,
high politicized news. No one wantsto be spoon fed ideas suddenly influenced.

(23:08):
able to really use their little meterto decide which you know where's it coming
from? Is this so this isa highly conservative publigation? Is it a
highly liberal publication? Where as iton the spectrum it is a lot of
fun. But more importantly, youknow where that you're just coming from,

(23:32):
and you know how close to themiddle it really is. And look,

the next sixty five days trying todecide just exactly who's telling the truth in

(25:34):
the media. Hey, everyone, welcome back to Politically podcast. I'm just
along with my wingman, Alan Steinberg. You know, someone who knows a
little bit about election law states inNorth Carolina, then again in Pennsylvania,

(26:00):
in Texas in the last forty eighthours, has suggested the concept of go
ahead and send your mail in ballotin, but if you're sure whether it's
been counted, which of course youwould never know, go ahead and go
to the polls and vote to sohis concept is vote twice. Now.

(26:25):
Bill Barr, the Attorney General UnitedStates, when asked by Wolf Blitzer on
CNN about this, said he didn'tknow North Carolina election law. Well,
is it not true that no matterwhat state you are in the you can't
vote twice. It's a felony. It's an absolute felony. And now we

(26:52):
have in the United States president whois guilty of soliciting the commission of a
felony that and that's helf. Undernormal circumstances, with normal senators who weren't
sycophanic supplicants the way the Republicans arein the US Senate would be enough to
impeach and remove a president from office. But we with these folks, They've

(27:14):
turned nature on its head. Ihave to say this about Bill Barr.
He's the worst attorney general in mylifetime. He makes John Mitchell, whom
I thought was the worst, whoI thought was the worst, He makes
him look like Robert Kennedy, whowas the best. So we have a
terrible We have a terrible situation rightnow with Bill Barr and Jnald Trump is

(27:38):
going to encourage throughout this campaign thecommission of all sorts of violations in the
rule of law because he has norespect for the rule of law, which
makes him a further danger to ourdemocracy. But that's what we're going to
be living with with the next sixtydays. Real quick. For those of

(27:59):
you who don't know, John Mitchellwas the attorney general under Richard Nixon and
went to prison for his experts.Little little fact check there. For those
of you who who John Mitchell is, now you do not a problem.
It's what I'm here to do.Basically, let's talk a little bit now,

(28:22):
Alan about contrasts. We have PresidentTrump who went to Kenosha where obviously
there's been some protesting unrest after thethe shooting of Jacob Blake and met with

(28:42):
the police. He shows not tomeet with local the mayor or the local
aldermen and civic leaders. Less thantwenty four hours later, you had Joe
Biden who came in at with thewith the leaders and also privately met with

(29:06):
the family and spoke to Jacob forabout the phone. There's been a contrast
in there, and let's talk alittle bit about styles. You know,
I wrote an article last week whenthe Kenosha disturbances first occurred, when the

(29:30):
shooting of Jacob Blake first occurred, and I wrote an article suggesting, recommending
very strongly that Joe Biden and KamalaHarris visit Kenosha. And this is before
it even got into news that Trumpwas considering it, and they should go
there as the voice of reconciliation andat the same time take part in the

(29:53):
non violent protest. It would sendout two messages. Number one that police
brutality acis police brutality would not betolerated, but number two that neither would
violence. It would send up apowerful twofold message. And I was disturbed
at first when Biden didn't immediately dothat. I felt he should have.

(30:14):
But it wasn't not a bad motivesthat he didn't. He was just concerned
about the volatility of the situation. And when Trump announced that he was visiting
Kenosha, I'll tell you the truth, I was a little worried about one
thing. I thought that he mightgo to Kenosha and try to change the
narrative of his campaign from being oneof hostility towards African Americans to one of

(30:36):
reconciliation. He had the opportunity todo that, but he didn't. He
is totally into his message of apress of not non violent, not with
a gualitarian law and order, butwith a press of fear and hatred.
That's his message, and he stuckto that message in Kenosha, which opened

(30:57):
the door again for Joe Biden tovisit Kenosha with Jill and come out as
the voice of heartfelt reconciliation. Ithought the whole week was a tremendous up
search for the Biden campaign. Theygot their message out, and the one
thing that the polls do show yousignificantly is that in two areas, Biden

(31:22):
significantly out poles Trump. And thisis where I think the poles are relevant
and are revealing. First of all, he's way ahead of Trump on the
coronavirus situation, and I think that'swhat's going to decide the election ultimately more
than any other issue. But secondly, on the whole issue of the urban

(31:44):
disturbances, it shows that Biden isway ahead of Trump in terms of handling
of race relations. And I thinkthe public overwhelmingly links race relations to the
urban disturbance situation, and they willwhat a person who is adapt at race
relations in order to deal with it. And I think that that's where Biden

(32:06):
further proved himself this week. Ithink he's going to win overwhelmingly, and
I think that this week was agood start in that regard, although it
is going to be, as Isaid before, two months of help.
Yeah. I spoke early in theweek prior to prior to President Trump going

(32:27):
to his content and Governor Ever hadof state Wisconsin had suggested become protesting,
was you know, and that thearea was so raw that he felt that
it might be an appropriate for thePresident to to come at that particular point

(32:49):
in time. Decided regardless of whetherGovernor Evers, who was a Democrat,
did or did not want him tobe there, he would go at the
same UM. Once President Trump wentum government said to um former Vice President

(33:13):
Biden that, you know, ifhe wished to come, then obviously the
president no pun intended had been setfor for people to come. So and
that's how that that for Let melet me just you know, let's go

(33:34):
back a little bit history. UMin sixty eight ncon in eighty Reagan and
now in twenty twenty, there's beenthe quote unquote law and order. His
position. It's kind of like it'swell in the case of President Trump is

(34:01):
more than the dog whistle. It'svery much a bullhorn. But it's it's
kind of like, let me scareyou into believing that there is such unrest
in this country that somebody watching, you know, in New Jersey, the
fires going on in in a youknow in Keno show, or some of

(34:25):
the looting in situations that are goingon in uh in Portland may very well
be in their backyard, you knowtomorrow. I think I don't think we
can undersk that that the white fearnarrative has been successful in the past.

(34:51):
Now, whether it is in twentytwenty or not remains to be seen.
But but that quote unquote will goback to the Reagan Ronald Reagan in nineteen
eight had you know, as youremember, the silent majority that kind of
took it over the top. Arewe running the risk I'm asking at this

(35:12):
point, are we running the rootof assuming there won't be a slide in
some states? You you can speakto Wisconsin very well because you went to
school there. Let's talk a littlebit that is there the risk that it

(35:34):
might with a people across the finishuh? I don't think so, not
in a sense that it used tobe. I think America has changed a
great deal over the past fifty years. And let me go back to a
point even earlier, because you haveto separate Richard Nixon from George You have

(35:55):
to separate him from George Wallace, and you have to separate Reagan from Nixon.
Now, George Wallace was an unabashedracist who later actually publicly atoned for
his racism. But his was anakedly racist appeal. But not only that,
if he had ever been elected, and there was never any real chance

(36:15):
of that, he would not havedone anything about the underlying racial problems.
Now, Nixon did make a racistlaw and order appeal. It was somewhat
toned down from Wallace, it wasn'tso blatant. But Nixon actually tried to
do something about the underlying problems. He did have his biases against people of

(36:36):
color, but he realized there wereissues surround his career. For example,
Nixon, when he served under Eisenhower, tried to do something to give black
contractors the greater share of the federalhiring largest give them a greater share of
federal contracts, and he did thisin office with the Philadelphia Plan. So
Nixon as I said, in alot of ways, his bark, which

(37:00):
was harmful, was much worse thanhis bike. And he certainly was not
And he did a lot to integrateschools. If you look at the Justice
Department during his years, they successfullyintegrated a lot of southern districts. So
again, the bark of Nixon wasfar worse than the bike. Now,
Ronald Reagan was the opposite. Reaganwas a man without any racial bias,

(37:22):
but he did play the race card. However, that wasn't his primary card.
The primary card that Reagan played wasthe fact that after the Iran hostage
crisis, America looked impotent in theface of the world. So he played
up the feeling of American power, projection of American power. Our economy was

(37:42):
in shambles at the time, andhe used the idea. And I don't
want to borrow a Trump phrase whenTrump said make America great again. Reagan
used the phrase morning in America. But it was a hopeful phrase. It
wasn't built around such fear and hate. I remember the worst of it all,
which was when I was at Northwesternin nineteen sixty eight. You had

(38:05):
Wallace come to Cicero, Illinois, which is where al Component lived. It
was very much a racist time andit was terrible. It was anti Semitic
too. Fiodor White, in hisbook wrote about covering the events in Cicero.
He didn't use his own name, but he talked about how he heard
from anti Semits in the crowd.Hey, Moischeia, he are you riding

(38:27):
backwards? You know, stuff likethat, the worst of anti Semitic dialogue.
But America has improved a lot,but we still have systemic racism,
particularly in the police forces of thiscountry. And the Republican Party, which
I served my whole life or hasbecome a profit center for racism because of
their voter suppression efforts. They seevoter suppression as the way to remain in

(38:52):
power in states like Georgia and otherSouthern states. And that's why I left
the Republican Party. I haven't joinedthe Democrats, but I won't be a
part of any party that practices votersuppression. And that's what the Republican Party
is all about these days. Fromabout the situation where there's a it goes

(39:17):
back to what we were talking abouta little earlier, about what was going
on in Kenocean in Portland and aroundthe country. The vast majority so people
are aware us yesterday there were proximatelytwenty seven hundred protest marches on behalf of

(39:45):
Black Lives Matter in in some youknow, variation of a theme having to
do with civil unrest in and ofthe just. And the President has chosen

(40:10):
to suddenly embrace something he did before, and that is the domestic terrorism concept,
except for he's talking about this beinganarchists now again, if you go
back and do the fact checking, which is what we do here, according

(40:32):
to the Justice Department, under thisis President Donald Trump's Justice Department, and
according to information that was put togetherby the Department of Home Polarity again,
under President Trump, white supremacists organizationsand the far right organization outnumber the quote

(41:04):
unquote leftists and arms antifa side inthe United States by thirty seven to one.
The disturbances vigilante situations that we've seenin Portland and in Kenosha ironically have

(41:29):
been done by the white supremacist groups. In the case of Portland where they
had the caravan of trucks that drovethrough town with the paintballs that they were
shooting protesters with, and in Kenoshawith the young man who was from Illinois

(41:50):
who brandished in AK fifteen, shottwo people and literally in front of the
police, left and was arrested, not in Wisconsin, back in his home
in Illinois. Um, yet hewas on videotape walking the streets of Kenosha.

(42:10):
I think somethings and we know this. You and I've had numerous discussions
about what happened in your old neighborhoodin Squirrel Hill. This this this sudden
latching onto of the anarchists, they'retaking over the cities. Um to me

(42:38):
is there's it's baseless. You areabsolutely one hundred percent correct in your assessment
that it has been the white nationalistswho have been the provocation of the disturbances
in both Kenosha and also in Portland. The Black Lives Matter movement Inland was

(43:00):
one of non violence all these months. Trump wanted to see violence there,
and his supporters who drove into thetown and whose sprayed paintballs were acting violently,
and now Trump all of a suddensays that, oh, no,
that's not violence. If it hadbeen Black Lives Matter with those paintballs,
he would have said, oh,that's a violent act. The man's a

(43:22):
racist, and that's what resulted inall the unfortunate disturbances and the shooting of
one of the demonstrators from the whitenationalists that occurred last Saturday night in Kenosha.
You had a situation where a seventeenyear old kid comes in holding a

(43:43):
gun illegally. It's a violation. He's an underaged kid who was looking for
trouble and he ended up killing twopeople. That was another example of white
nationalist provocation, and he was aTrump supporter. The public is starting to
see this for what it is.That's where America I think has changed for
the better all these years. Butwe have to be on guard. Any

(44:07):
kind of provocation from any source.I don't care what race it is,
I don't care what political ideology itis is unacceptable. But we have to
be willing to call everything for whatit is. And what we have going
here now is in America that Trumpis trying to unhinge. Okay, let's

(44:30):
take a quick look at what's happening. I mean, we know this is
a holiday weekend, it's is laboredday, and we've had upticks in the
coronavirus. Every time that we've hada major holiday weekend. So before we

(44:54):
get into it this question of what'sgoing on, I want to take this
moment to do a quick public announcement. If you choose to go out and
celebrate this holiday, you know, whether it's a backyard cookout or whether it's
to the beach you want to go, please remember to wear a mask.

(45:15):
Please remember the social distance. Pleaseremember to wash your hands. You're doing
that as much for other people asyou are for yourself. So I'm just
begging you to follow the guidelines. It's it's really important because we've lost one
hundred and eighty five thousands of thecoronavirus. It is a big bab and

(45:39):
needs you to Okay, all right, here's what's going on, mister Steinbern,
and we'll do some quick hits oncoming up this week. Now,
coming up there today, the Nativebasically look to sanction Russia, and I

(46:07):
think it'll be interesting to see whetheror not we how we came the NATO
calling out of Russia. We haveNancy Pelosi and Steve Venusian who've actually done
a lot of deals together, startingwith NAPS two point zero and going through

(46:30):
a number of different things, includinggetting the stimulus built through Manustian and Pelosi
have tentatively come across an agreement tokeep the government working through September. And

(46:51):
Mark Meadows, who is the formercongressman from state of North Carolina who hired
from that post to become the theWhite House Chief of Staff to President the
President Trump has not been involved inthese normal discussions, but he will get

(47:12):
involved as they get ready to tryto do. I think Venusian and Pelosi
would have had a stimulus still donehad it not been for from for Meadows.
So send it comes back next week? Do we get a stimulus pack?
And any comments on anything having todo with from what I have read,

(47:37):
From what I have heard, SteveManuchian is a person that Nancy Pelosi
can deal with, and they canreach compromises and they can advance the agenda,
particularly for those Americans whose economic welfarehas been just devastated from the pandemic.
The problems are Meadows, who MarkMeadows is once a hardcore member of

(48:00):
the Tea Party and he stands inaway. But also you have the growing
influence of Peter Navarro, who isjust a bad human being. There were
an extensive stories in the Washington Postabout his sexism and about the hostile work
environment he's created in the White House. This is a very bad scene,

(48:22):
and as such, he is aserious obstacle to getting anything done to the
whole climate in Washington. And youcombine that with Donald Trump himself and you
have a toxic mix. So I'mvery worried. I don't know if anything's
going to be advanced. I thinkthat I have never seen government in all

(48:44):
my years more unhinged than it isright now. The other part of the
equation that this is even if therewas a stimulus package, now let's say,
you know, there's supposedly a trilliondollars apart if they split it,

(49:07):
and we're willing to do that, which seems to be what and Pelosi are
willing to do. But Meadows isn't. There is a problem in the Senate
with Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, and that is he's got a handful of
Republican senators who do not want togive the American public any you know,

(49:30):
a dime more. And we're talkingabout four or five to those centers.
It's quite sceivable that even if McConnellwanted to and we're giving a big assumption
there. Even if McConnell wanted tobless whatever deal Maolution and Pelosi were able

(49:51):
to brok her, it might noteven make it through the Senate. Well,
that's true. McConnell has one bigproblem on his as also, he
could lose his reelection bit to AmyMcGrath. So, Kentucky is a state,
it's one of those states that's goingfrom red to purple. Uh.
You know they have Butcher now,who is a Democrat governor. And you

(50:14):
know the climate out there has beeninfluenced by the horrific murder of what was
it, Brianna Clark or Taylor?Yeah, yeah, Taylor. So you
have all this atstake in Kentucky.McConnell has to show some some give otherwise
he not only will lose his majority, he will lose his seat. So

(50:37):
I think he's going to try tomaneuver. I'm a little more hopeful regarding
him than I am of others atthis point. Not that I value him
as an individual, but I thinkhe has a survival instinct. Well,
yeah, i'd be tested. Asyou recall when the first bell came through,

(51:00):
he to his his caucus and said, look, you guys are gonna
have to hold your nose and letthis go by the second time around.
He's got guys like from Florida. He got a couple of Ron Johnson from
Wisconsin. He's got a few othersenators who are hell bent on saying no,

(51:23):
no, no, no no money. We uh you know we we
we are where we are. Sohe's going to have to do some serious
whip to get to get those votesup there. But we'll see. I
mean, this is where the presidentif there's a deal on the table,

(51:44):
and if Meadows allows Manuan and Pelosito broker that deal, it can get
done if the President pushes bully pulpiton on you know, on Mitch McConnell.
But you know, right now, let's don't get ahead of ourselves.
We have no idea where that's going. The final thing on this one with

(52:07):
the with NATO and in Russia, something in my and I hate to think
this, but something my head thought, Wait a minute, if if NATO
does this and we you know,we're part of the Security Council natos um

(52:27):
I'm sorry, started part of theNATO Alliance, not the Security Council,
that's the United Nations. My apologies, um push Russia. Do you think
and we've seen this Mattess talked himout of it the first time. Is
there any way that over the weekendm we pull out a NATO. I

(52:53):
don't know if Trump would go thatfar. It's there's a lot of evidence
that Boutin really has some kind ofblackmail power over him, which the Trump
is keep denying. I think hedoes have some sort of blackmail power.
I think that when this administration isall over, we'll find out what it
was. But I think that Trump'spolitical advisors would be resistant to him going

(53:17):
that far. He's losing this election. He's going to lose this election.
But there's only so much gazzoline theycan allow to be poured on a fire.
So you think we're safe from fromexiting NCO. I don't think it
will happen, but I don't putanything past Donald Trump. Okay, So

(53:38):
I think his political advisors will prevailupon him. Okay. I don't think
he will lead it, But it'sjust something that I thought in the back
of my mind. I know thaton a number of times he's he's been
very adamant about the possibility of pullingout. I don't think that that's going

(54:01):
to happen. Well, it's worthdiscussing. Put it that way. Yeah,
where's the thought. So it's shamelessplug time, Alan h. You're
writing a bunch of stuff this week. We've posted a bunch of it on
on Newstox Florida, and you haveit in course on your New Jersey Insider,

(54:24):
which I'm sorry Insider New Jersey gother backwards in correct, which is
a fantastic publication. Highly recommend checkhim out. What's going on this week?
Brother, Well, I'm continuing towrite about what I feel is the
backfire of the Trump law and ordermessage. I wrote a column yesterday about

(54:46):
the woman who I think is fromNew Jersey who's becoming a national figure,
and I think she's really a democraticsimple star. I think she's the future
governor in New Jersey. Uh,Mikey Sheryl. You see her a lot
on shows like Bill Maher and othersas well. But she's coming super superstar

(55:07):
already, graduate helicopter pilot, veryhighly regarded person in Washington. Uh,
she's a star in this election andfor elections to come cool. All right,
well then we will follow that.Follow you on Twitter. What don't
your Twitter handle their bud Yeah,A Steinberg at A Steinberg six thirteen,

(55:30):
Alan Steinberg and you all, AlanJoel Steinberg. I use the middle name
my parents gave me. Heyoe,Alan Joel Steinberg. All right, Alan
Joel Steinberg. We will put allthat shoe box blow. Thanks for joining

(55:52):
Hey, folks, let's talk alittle bit about my new friends at
ground News. Now. It's anapp that I've got on my phone and
we're all newsies, right, Imean, let's be honest, you wouldn't
be listening to the Politically Incorrect podcastif you don't like the news. And
you know, one of the thingswe like about the news, or we

(56:15):
hope to like about the news,is that the news is not bs.
That we know that the news we'regetting is real news and not news that
has a slant to it one wayor the other. World, there's a
way to make certain that you knowthat the news you are getting where it's

(56:37):
coming from, whether it's slanted oneway or the other. Look in many
ways, all news in some waysor bias, right, and the reporters
may add bias language consciously or unconsciously, but the outcome is the same.
You get biased news and it impactshow you see the world. No.
Ground News is a brand new adand it's easy. You can get it

(57:01):
at the Google Play Store and getat the App Store for those of you
who are on these Apple devices, and it's free in downloaded. It provides
readers with objective data about the underlyingpolitical bias in published news stories. Again,
as we said before, either consciouslyor unconsciously, there is always a

(57:25):
little bit of ias. But howmuch and where's it coming from? Well,
that's why ground News does. GroundNews synthesizes this for you and breaks
it down in fascinating way. It'struly fascinating. It's you, Frankly,
it's a groundbreaking, first ever newscomparison platform. There's nothing like it.

(57:47):
Ground News collects data from over fiftythousand news sources, runs it in real
time media bias tracking. Then thecoverage bias rating is given visually alongside the
story. So for every story youread, you can compare how reporting difference
across sources with different political biases.See if the coverage from the story excuse

(58:09):
more to left or to the right. Hopefully, hopefully it's somewhere in the
middle. I mean, this isa news person's dream. Okay, this
is geek out stuff. Okay, you guys are going to freak out about
it. It is so much fun. Ground news represents the larger movement,

(58:31):
the people who frankly are fed upwith traditional, high politicized news. No
one wants to be spoon fed ideassuddenly influenced. No way, don't want
that. Ground News gives power tothe people. So you can make up
your own mind. And look,if I know anything about you folks who

(58:52):

I've been on Twitter with you.I know this, my friends, is
going to be something you're going tohave a lot of fun with. But
at the same time, and Ireally don't want this to go unnoticed.
At the same time you're having funand being able to really use their little

(59:16):
meter to decide which you know, where's it coming from? Is this so
it's just a highly conservative publication? Is it a highly liberal publication? Where
as it on the spectrum? Itis a lot of fun, But more
importantly, you know where that newsis coming from, and you know how

(59:37):
close to the middle it really is. And look, that's all you can
ask for, folks. But I'lltell you what. Because ground News are

you know early via Twitter as soonas we decide where to go with that

(01:04:11):
next week. But we're just sixtydays out. This weekend, early voting
begins in the state North Carolina fromthis point for early voting in a number
of states. If you're not sureif your state has early voting, be
sure to check out the websites foreach state, and I'm sure that they

(01:04:33):
will be able to give you thatinformation. Also, plan on voting by
mail. Cannot tell you more thanthis. It is safe, absolutely hundred
percent safe by all means. Ifyou're going to vote by mail, request
a ballot the moment you get it, fill it out. Make certain that

(01:04:55):
you've checked all of the information onthe ballot with regard to how you probably
fill it out, how you've properlyaddressed the labels on the envelope and quickly
get it into mail. Okay, this is going to be a very important
election. We all know that regardlessof who your candidate is in this election,

(01:05:16):
you want your vote to count. So be certain there's early voting and
you feel comfortable enough to go outin this pandemic world by all means do
it. Be prepared to stand theline for a while if you choose to
do the mail lining, something I'vebeen doing since nineteen because I usually work

(01:05:41):
on election day and do it.But again, the two things I urge
you ask for the ballot now andonce you get it, fill it out,
check all of the information on theto what you need to do to
make certain that that ballot gets counted. Okay, across your teas and that's

(01:06:08):
