chiming in and as promised, guys, I told you, guys, I

(00:24):
business mindset, like what does thatlook like, what's required, what do

you need to adjust so that you'reliving in abundance with your business. So
I know some of you may bejoining me for the first time ever,
so welcome, Welcome, Welcome.I am Veronda Brooks Bellamy. I am
(00:47):
the creator of this group. I'malso the creator of the Relevancy Factor as
well as Hapthyology, which are bothtools that I use in business to support
my clients. I'm also a therapist, so I specialized in helping you go
from stuck to unstoppable in life andor business. That is me, I
(01:08):
am she, So I like toreally support you in your journey. Sometimes
people come to me for depression, sometimes people come to work with me for
anxiety, and then I also haveclients that come to work with me for
their business or whether you're starting abusiness, you are trying to grow your
(01:30):
business, whether you want to expandit, or you just need to basically
get more clear about what's going onwith your within your business. That is
something that I provide services for.So, as the caption says, I
think it's up here for you guys, maybe down below, I want to
talk to you about the success businessmindset. What is it? Why don't
(01:53):
you have it? What do youneed to do to tap into it?
So I actually have eight principles thatI know, soh can really help you
grow your mindset in a way that'sreally going to support your business growth.
Right, And so I really wantto get into this with you, guys.
I'm not going to stay on herelong, but I'm glad that you're
(02:13):
here in a group. I hopethat you guys are enjoying a group.
I hope that you are finding valuein what's being shared with you. Guys,
we try to flood you with alot of information regarding whether it's mindset,
whether it's mental illness, whether it'sbusiness. You're going to get all
of that within this group itself. So again, welcome and thank you for
being a part of the community here. In order for you to run a
(02:38):
business successful successfully can't talk today. You really have to think like a business
owner, right, That is oneof the keys. And thinking like a
business owner is very different than havingan employee mindset. Right. So you
think about when you used to workfor someone, and some of you maybe
(02:59):
transitioning from being an employee to anemployer, and that's fine if you're in
that transition. We all go throughthat in the startup phase of starting a
business. And just to give youeven a quick tidbit about that, don't
just take that leap of faith andjump out unless one God is tosed you
to do that, or two youcan see the financial gain and security and
(03:23):
you've taken that leap to jump fromwhere you're working your employer into becoming one
hundred self employed because you have tohave the finances to say, sustain yourself
and your family and the business onceyou take that leap. Right. So
for me, I've had my business, actually one of them, since two
(03:43):
thousand and eight. That particular businessis a mental health and addiction facility and
so we provide outpatient services to supportthe community. And so I'll go a
little bit deeper into that. Butduring COVID, I shifted the business and
at one point I was ready tosell the business and it was the whole
thing, right, and then ultimatelywe decided to keep the business and relaunch
(04:09):
it in a different way, andso we've been rebuilding essentially since COVID hit.
It has really expanded my mindset onhow to support the business, how
to grow the business, and allthe things since COVID has come in.
So for like it has for manypeople, I recall writing an article in
which I deemed it the great resignationlike that took place during COVID because so
(04:33):
many people fired their bosses to goand work for themselves. And so I
don't know where those people are now. I think some of them are changing
their minds about that decision because maybethey jumped too quickly. They weren't quite
prepared to really support themselves and theirfamilies in a way that was really going
to be lucrative for them for them. So again I urge you, if
(04:55):
you are working for someone and you'rethinking about starting a business, or you
have a business that you're running, make sure before you take that leap that
you have everything in place, oryou know, you're able to support yourself
before you do that, don't doit until you can't do that, Okay,
it's okay. Most people will doit anyway that way. So again,
in order for you to run asuccessful business, you have to think
(05:17):
like a business owner rather than havingthat employee mindset. Right, Financial Time
so eloquently suggests that the business mindsetbasically refers to a specific state of mind
which orientates basically human conduct right towardsentrepreneurial activities and outcomes. So your business
(05:42):
is built on activities and the outcomesof those activities, right. Individuals with
entrepreneurial mindsets are often drawn to opportunities, innovation and new value creation. Right,
So you really have to be thinkingon your toes. You got to
stay up with us and what's trendingin the market so that you're able to
(06:02):
meet the demands and the needs ofyour clients and then to be able to
compete with your competition, because ifyou can't, then you go out of
the business. Right, your competitionis going to eat you up like the
pac man. So for years Iworked in my business and I tried to
run the business actually for me.I then ran the business later and the
(06:26):
business pretty much took off when Idid that, when I switched gears from
working for the business to running thebusiness. So when I started to run
the business, that's when the businessreally started to grow. I was thinking
with a business mindset at that time, and that was once COVID hit.
I sent so many employees home atthe height of the business, I think
(06:48):
we had about thirty employees, andso when COVID came in to protect everyone,
I was like, guys, we'renot going to get COVID. I
don't want anyone dying on my watch, you know, go home and be
with your family. And so withthat, and during that time, I
had to take pretty much the previousstance that I had before that, and
(07:10):
I started back to working in thebusiness and running the business at the same
time. I also started up acouple of other businesses during this time as
well, so I literally was jugginga lot. I had a toddler newborn,
you know, at that time.It was just a lot going on.
And I held on to all ofthat for like two and a half
(07:31):
years until recently I realized what Ihad done right. I knew it was
time for me to really shift whenI found myself really just I felt like
I needed to make more community connections. That was what was the indicator for
me, Like I felt like Iwas just kind of too isolated, and
(07:57):
I just felt like it was justa yearning for me to go ahead and
to connect with more communities than whatI was doing and making. And when
I say community connections, I meanlike getting out there in the community,
getting to know people, meeting withpeople, partnering with people, and things
of that nature. I was doingthat prior to Covid and was very successful
and the business was just growing leftand right because of that. I did
(08:20):
it so well during that time thateven those relationships that I built back then,
they're still sustainable till this day. They helped to sustain the business when
I had to take the transition fromactually running the business to working and running
the business. Right, So,you want to build intentional connections. You
want to be very intentional about thepeople that you are partnering with because ultimately
(08:46):
you guys come together to support thevision of the business and the company that
you're building. Right. The onlything at that time was that Covid really
back during that time had me fora long time for two years basically in
the mindset of isolation. So Iwas isolated from everyone, like everyone else,
like the world was. We werepretty much living in a secluded state
(09:09):
during that time. We had tobecause of the demands of society, like
we couldn't go outside, we hadto wear masks and gloves and the whole
thing. Right, But if you'relistening to this, that means you survived.
And I know many of you probablylost family members during this time,
So my heart in condolences goes outto you as well, you know,
(09:31):
for what you have lost during thattime of the pandemic. I really think
we had I call it the pandemicsof sorts going on because we had the
George Floyd a movement that was takingplace, as well as COVID nineteen that
was kind of hitting the home atthe same time. So nevertheless, I
had to begin to get back outthere basically, so I started that journey.
(09:54):
And that is one key to thesuccess business mindset or business success mindset,
is to be able to discern what'sneeded within you and your business right
in order for you to be successful. So step one is to evaluate yourself
(10:16):
and ensure you know all the rolesreally within your business, but keep people
in place to run those roles soyou can continue to lead the organization or
business. Be aware of your redflags, which my red flag and your
red flags may be totally different, right, So you really have to know
yourself in order to really be analignment and to have that entrepreneurial mindset really
(10:41):
working for you. Right, Soknowing what your red flags are, it's
going to be key to you,you know, strategizing what's next for yourself,
for the business, if you needto sell it, if it's time
for you to go to another level, if it's time for you to build
connections, like what's really needed forthe business to be sustainable going forward.
And this really leads me to numbertwo. Actually, for me, the
(11:03):
first red flag was I found myselfcompromising myself for the business, right and
that's just not a safe place forentrepreneurs really to operate from. You have
to take care of yourself so yourleadership is effective. Right. So self
care can also look different for everyone. It could be very different for everyone.
(11:28):
So often people think that self carereally is all about you know,
oh I went and had a youknow, a massage, or I got
my nails done, I got myhair did. What girl, It's so
much more than just that, right, you really have to take care of
yourself. I remember my mom sayingwhen she would see some of her friends,
like she's really taking care of herself. She looks really good, or
(11:50):
he looks really good. He's reallytaking care of himself. And that meant
for me it looked like, youknow, for the longest I had put
off medical appointments, you know Iwas, and it's working now. Then
like all the things, like Ijust wasn't taking care of myself and attending
to myself the way that I reallyneeded to. And so and the even
(12:11):
deeper problem is I didn't value whatwas needed and that self care during that
time, Like I didn't even itwas just like, yeah, it's kind
of you to go and get yourannual physical. I was like, I'll
do it later. Like it wasn'teven a thought or there was no value
you put on me taking action toreally take care of myself. It wasn't
(12:31):
until my body started to speak tome that the attention was drawn and I
was like, oh, okay, yes, something's wrong here, Oh what
happened? Oh man? I kindof lost myself right, and that happened
so often in business. The goodthing is that you can get back on
track, and that's exactly what's happeningand has happened with me. And it
can be a slow process to youregaining full control of yourself so that you're
(12:54):
in control of the business. Nevertheless, as a therapist, self care pretty
much encompasses me literally not skipping, like I said, doctor's appointments, taking
hot baths. Okay, that's somethingthat really really does. It's kind of
just that that me time I thinkI've gone live. Actually while I was
(13:15):
taking a back, of course yougot to see me, but just to
really reinforce the importance of you really, you know, practicing self care from
that standpoint as well, Like thispast weekend, I took time to really
give myself a good facial and allthe things. So like right now I
have one, no makeup at all, none, and so just taking care
(13:35):
of myself and it makes me feelgood. It makes me feel really good
about what I'm doing and just myselfin general. Getting massage is okay,
yeah, you can get a massage. It's great to have. You may
want to schedule one to get yourselfone to schedule and get one done maybe
every six weeks, or it couldbe every other month, how frequently,
however, whatever that looks like foryou getting that done. For me,
(13:58):
it was insured in that we havebabysitters so that my husband and I can
have that one on one time everyweek together. Because it's so easy to
lose yourself in the mundane of living, right, so much happens on a
day to day basis. Before youknow, it is seven o'clock, it's
time for the kids to go down, and you really don't have a whole
lot of time to give to yourspouse, and it just becomes a day
(14:22):
to day thing. So you reallyhave to make it a priority or a
part of your self care routine tospend that time with your spouse if you're
married. Being present with my employeesis another self care technique for me because
they crave that attention just like everyonedoes. They need that time with me,
(14:45):
whether it's me texting, whether it'sme just saying, hey, how's
it going in the office in caseI'm not there, is there anything that's
needed? And then too, Istarted scheduling like one on ones with my
employees every week so that we cankind of hash out any concerns, any
client staffings that we need to door whatever that looked like. And then
(15:07):
also just having staffing meetings. Ihave employees and the Philippines as well as
in Nigeria soon to be Canada that'son a team, and so it's important
that we stay connected. We haveall types of thank god, you know
for a computer and technology, wehave all types of softwares that we use
(15:28):
to really stay connected. But Ihave to be intentional about that in order
for the business to really be sustained. So your leadership is necessary in order
for you to have a successful business. Another thing was eating well. That
went out the window for me.I still am challenged with eating well and
(15:48):
being very intentional about what I putin my mouth. It's just something I
continue to struggle with. I'll probablyhave that struggle for the like many people,
for the rest of my life. But it's also so that I want
to be more intentional about in myself care routine because it's it's required because
when you're not taking care of yourself, you're not eating the right things,
(16:10):
you gain weight right, and thatcauses more disease or disease within your body.
And it kind of slows you down, which affects your mental which affects
your your ability to be successful inthe business. If you're liking what I'm
sharing, if you can't, justput a one. If you're just now
joining, just say hey girl, hey, if you're catching a replay,
just do me a favor in thecomments, drop hashtag replay and if you
(16:34):
haven't already, include your business bestfeat in this page or tag them down
below in the comments so they cancatch this as well. Right, So,
just getting back to it, justfor me as it relates to,
you know, diet, I'm eatingwell with something that I really begin to
make a priority. Right So,my husband has lost almost one hundred pounds
(16:56):
naturally, and just watching him,he does smooth like he'll do it smoothie
for breakfast. Sometimes he'll do onefor dinner, but he does that consistently
in addition to drinking lots of water. Right for me, I'm not a
drinker of any major thing really likethat, and so I have to really
force myself to get my water inbecause I don't. I'm not a drinker.
(17:19):
But what I found is having areally pretty cup as vain as that
is. But having a really prettycup with really cold cold ice water really
does help me to drink more water. I don't know what it is and
why it is, but that's justwhat it is for me. So if
you're struggling with water, maybe tryingto get yourself a really nice cup that
(17:41):
you can keep with you at alltimes and you can drink it and throughout
the day. So I don't knowwhat the vanity is behind that, but
that's my thing and it might helpyou too. So I'm just gonna say
it's the girl and me and girlpower because we wrong. Right. Number
four, Know that you can andlikely should be a relatable leader. Right.
(18:04):
So often you think of leaders, you think they're unapproachable. You don't
know what to say to them orhow to approach them. My focus remains
on being approachable by my staff. Now, Like I have a staff that
calls me her friend and her boss, and she will tell you that that's
my boss and my friend, right. I pray for her. I want
the best for us in the business. And so there's always going to be
(18:29):
those staff I found that really seeyou as the owner of the business,
right, and they become intimidated byyour title and they will fear the power
that comes with that title, orof you creating something or you being the
owner of something, right, andthat has nothing to do with you.
When people see you from that angle, that really doesn't have anything to do
(18:52):
with you unless it has something todo with you, right. So,
usually if you are not being approachable, then your leadership is impacting the team.
They're not going to know how tocome at you, They're going to
fear you, and that can createreally a toxic work environment for everybody.
So we really want to be ina place of just being approachable, working
(19:14):
together as a team. And Ithink of a team, I think of
us linking arms together, right toreally support each other and support the vision
of the company and the patients orclients that we are called to serve and
whatever that capacity looks like. Right. So the good thing is if you
are unapproachable or you feel like youknow you work best and being an unapproachable
person, you can always change thatas well. And if you find yourself
(19:41):
being stuck there, I'm gonna actuallyto lean into that, like really figure
out why do you feel the needto lead in this way? What would
what would be so wrong with youactually taking a step back and just kind
of letting your hair down. Whatwould be so wrong with that? And
(20:02):
I'm gonna challenge you to actually tryit. Try it for like two weeks,
give yourself fourteen days of consistently justkind of letting your guard down and
being an approachable and if you ifyou're comfortable, you can come back in
and let me know how that worked. You send me a message, or
you can comment on this video herein the group letting me know how that
(20:26):
worked. I would love to hearyour feedback on that. Al righty.
Number five, make sure you haveall your financials together. Wow, that's
been a blessing and a curse forme, honestly. And so it's something
that you know, I have anundergrad in business management, and of course
(20:48):
they teach us things about you know, accounting and you know finance and SWA
analysis and all that stuff, right, But it's not until you run a
business that you're like, oh,man, like I really have to have
all my financial things together in orderfor me to do this or do that
or obtain whatever it is that youneed. This will actually when you have
(21:11):
it together, it actually will assistyou in all compliance laws that accompany your
businesses or business. Do this immediatelyif you haven't, like, get your
business on me up and up,go ahead and register your business. Do
all the things you need to doto make sure that your business is legit
and that you have everything in place. If you have it, it's not
(21:33):
too late. You can always, you know, hire someone to assist you
with getting things up to part alwayshave access to a good accountant and a
good attorney whenever you whenever the needarises. You may need them at some
point in your business, so it'simportant that you do have those two connections,
a good accountant and a really goodattorney to assist the business as needed.
(21:57):
Number six always, always, alwaysconsider the needs of the business and
your employees. When you think aboutreally what is best for your business,
you may identify you need to sellthe business. Actually, when you really
really sit down and really think aboutit, you may identify you need to
further your teaching or further the teachingof your staff. Right you may realize
(22:22):
you need to hire a new teammember at any rate. Be prepared to
adjust accordingly. Fiil those spots.Really trust the staff you have if you
need to, and promote internally andadd extra training as needed to support the
growth and expansion of your business.Right. I at one point was on
a rapid, like hugely aggressively tryingto hire people. And when I was
(22:49):
doing that, I really found ithard to find the right people. So
I slowed down with my hire endprocess and eventually we started finding the right
people to be connected to the business. It's important that you find the right
quality of staff rather than the quantityof staff. You want people that's going
to support your business for the longhaul. Sometimes people come in for a
(23:11):
season with the business, they helpthe business, they learn what they need
to learn, and then they maymove on. But during the time that
they they're with you, they reallydo support you and the business, and
that's really what you need no matterwhat season that employee is in. Right,
So make sure you just have what'sneeded to really sustain and support the
business. As you continue to grow, business ebbs and it flows, so
(23:34):
it's not always just charting up.There are grass that shows you that business
kind of goes like this. Sometimesit's up, sometimes it's just a ticker
up. For me, it wasjust going up, up, up about
for years and then all of asudden it just started coming down and so
and then you have to continue tobalance things out to kind of get it
going back up again. So itebbs and it flows, and you have
(23:56):
to be able to adjust accordingly. That's actually another tip that I wasn't even
supposed to be talking about, butyou have to be able to adjust accordingly
to support the business. Right numberseven. I have found myself in ruts
where I would not get going,so I was just kind of feeling stuck
essentially, right, I would havejust mounds of task right that I needed
(24:22):
to actually do things I needed todo within the business, and I just
didn't know really how to prioritize thosetasks. And it wasn't until I began
to accomplish really the hardest task firstthat I was able to move forward.
And the hardest task is the taskthat you really what I found, is
(24:45):
the one that you really keep avoiding. So when you don't do that,
you don't really do a whole lotof other things that's really attached to that
or outside of that. For mepersonally, completing the hard task when I'm
at home and this is my homeoffice, here is actually me getting into
a quiet space here in the homeand it's usually at night when the kids
(25:11):
are down. You know, there'snot a whole lot of movement within the
house. I can really focus andconcentrate. I've written some papers at night.
I've done like the most powerful podcastat night. I've interviewed, like
I've done, created so much atnighttime. My creativity is like hi at
night and so and it doesn't it'snot always like that for everyone. You
(25:33):
have to know the best time ofday to handle any type of difficult task
that you have for yourself. Sometimesfor people it's the first thing in the
morning that's when you are the mostcreative. And if that's you, then
make sure you handle the hard taskfirst, because it's gonna take a lot
out of you, right and you'reable to handle the smaller things from there.
(25:56):
You don't have to do everything inone day, So really prioritize and
kind of make sure you're handling thatthat tough thing so that you can move
forward and the other task that reallydoes need your attention as well. Okay,
So again, it could be inthe morning, it could be at
night, it could be in theafternoon, it could be any time of
the day for you. Just youneed to identify, identify the time of
(26:17):
day that really works best for you. Only you can determine what that mental
band with looks like and when youshould really tap into it. Okay,
and then, guys number eight, you will have naysayers. Yes, I'm
sorry to tell you and inform you. Yeah, you're gonna have naysayers.
(26:40):
Okay, accept it right now,say I will have nay sayers within my
business. It comes with the territory. If you need to write it on
the sticky and stick it right infront of you so you could see it
every day, do that. Itcomes with the territory. It is a
part of growth. Think about Beyoncein all the negative comments she gets,
(27:02):
but she continues to move forward inevery year's You or whenever she's dropping something
new, She's always expanding or growing, right, And so you have to
be able to push your past allthe noise so that you can really focus
on what's really most important, andthat's yourself and your business. Right.
The quicker you embrace that concept, the quicker you can get on with growing
(27:26):
your business. Actually, and onthat note, your family and your friends
are not your family, and yourfriends are not your family, and your
friends are not your customers. Youcannot expect for them to support you because
you did not build a business foryour family and your friends. It's for
(27:52):
your customers. Businesses are created tosolve a problem, right, You have
a business to solve a whatever thatproblem is. For me, it's people
dealing with mindset, it's people startinga business, it's people that's wanting to
expand their business. It's people that'sdealing with mental illness or addiction. So
you have to know what that's whatthat problem is that you are attempting to
(28:15):
solve, and that is why yourbusiness exists. Conducting a SWAT analysis.
So many people overlook that and theydo nothing or don't have never heard of
it. Google SWAT analysis SWOT.Sometimes it's two t's, depending on the
analysis that you're conducting. Right. It stands for strength, strengths, weaknesses,
(28:37):
opportunity, threats, and trends withina business. You need to have
one of those done. If youdon't know how to do it or you're
not comfortable with it, know yourstrengths, know your strengths, and know
your weaknesses. If that's not yourforetee, connect with me. I'll be
more than happy to assist you withhaving a squat analysis complete it. You
want to know that so that youcan identify why you are in business and
(29:00):
then identify your target at markets sothat you can move forward and really grow
your business and meet the demands andneeds of those that you are called the
serve. Okay oooo, that wasa lot, y'all. I know it
was a lot. It was alot. So you can always come back
and catch the replay of this.I think I'm gonna keep going with this.
(29:22):
I'm gonna come back tomorrow with moreinformation about the mindset of having a
business. I may even talk abouthow to deal with like when you're depressed
or you have other personal things that'sgoing on, and how to you know,
really overcome that on tomorrow. Butfor today, this is what was
in my spirit to really share withyou guys, is you know the business
(29:44):
success mindset? What success business mindset? What does that look like? Right?
And it's so many tips, likeI could keep going on and on
and on with like an everlaxing list, but these top eight are the ones
that I really wanted to share withyou because I feel like you tapping into
just this little bit right here canreally help you shift and pivot in your
business as needed. Okay, Imay come back with an ebook for you
(30:10):
guys that will give you even moretips on how to grow your business and
sustain your business for the long haul. You didn't start your business to go
out of business within a month, two months, within a year. I
started my mental health facility back intwo thousand and eight and it's still here
and so and it's grown and ebbedand flowed and all the things since two
(30:33):
thousand and eight. I have twoother businesses that started in twenty one in
twenty nineteen and another in twenty twenty. So you know, you have to
really be able to really you know, know yourself and then know what you
are here to do. Okay,I'm gonna come back and drop a link
for you guys to work with meif you have any questions or you want
(30:56):
to really take your business to thenext level. Is important that you have
a coach. Is important that youhave someone that has more information or more
knowledge than you. It's important thatyou have someone that you can just really
connect with to really partner with youto reach your vision and goals that you
have for your business. Whatever thatis. Okay, So if you're ready
(31:18):
to get clear about your business. There's going to be a link here in
about five minutes, I will dropbelow, And basically what I'm doing is
starting to provide what we call businesstune ups. Just like your car needs
