Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hell, everybody's CJ De Santas from the Rounds podcast. Are
you feeling a little bit empty this week? Well, if
you're not, the Rounds ran into some issues and we
didn't get to do an episode last week, but we're
still here. We got what you need, your hookup on
all things combat sports. So we're coming at you with
some hot takes this week. Before we get to that, though,
(00:22):
I want to thank our sponsors over at Salt Electrolytes.
Visit them, use the code b MAC, save some money,
and we always joke on the show that we got
you covered with the Salt, and we also have the Pepper,
the Pepper variety of jerky chips. Visit our friends over
at Godfather Jerky Chips. Use that code b MAC, and
(00:45):
I think you save fifteen percent something like that. Don't
hold me to it, but I'm pretty sure that you're
going to get fifteen percent off, and if you don't,
you're gonna get some jerky chips that'll make you forget
all about the money you spent on that. Damn good.
It's true, all right, So I got a hot take.
Matt Elkins has a hot take, and Brandon mccatherine as
(01:05):
a hot take, and I thought we'd space him out
because you're not gonna get, you know, an episode of
the Rounds like you normally do, so let's just spread
out one segment over three days. And if that weren't enough,
I've got something else for you, an interview with Joe Rogan.
It's all I'm gonna say for now, but look forward
in your feed coming up later this week. Also want
(01:26):
to remind you going to be on the ground in
Mexico City this weekend with b mac is. The Eddie
Bravo Invitational takes center stage once again live on UFC
Fight Pass. That goes down Sunday night. Sixty man tournament.
Featherweight's taken the mat and even though it's an EBI,
we're still doing what Eddie calls poutassos, which I think
(01:47):
people that speak Spanish all strikes putassos. Uh, but it's
all rivers to me because I don't know what I'm
talking about in English, let alone Spanish. So uh, make
sure you tune in this Sunday night for EEDI the
featherweights combat jiu Jitsu going down in Mexico City. You're
gonna kick things off with the man who knows. It's
(02:08):
his hot take on how women are poised to take
over the sport of Brazilian jiu jitsu. So that's it.
Talk to you soon. Now it's time for hot takes.
Speaker 2 (02:19):
Did you be good pulls?
Speaker 1 (02:20):
I'm not listening to this. You are sat dang. Let's
hear them out. Hot takes, kind of hot hot takes.
Speaker 2 (02:29):
This is the round hot take. Women are poised to
lead the next wave of Brazilian jiu jitsu. Let's break
it down with three hard facts. Number one, the explosive
growth in participation. Women are storming the mats like never before.
In New York City alone, female search interest for local
(02:49):
BJJ dojos hit an astonishing fifty two percent as of
July twenty twenty three, and nationwide, forty six percent of
all Google searches for jiu jitsu from women. Over the
past decade, JIM demographics have totally flipped from rarely seeing
a woman on the mat to classes where women now
make up nearly a quarter of practitioners. And here's another stat.
(03:13):
At the IBJJF World Masters, female participation surged by an
incredible one hundred and forty eight percent between twenty seventeen
and twenty twenty three. That's compared to only forty six
percent growth among men. Still very large growth sports moving
in the right direction, but these numbers are undeniable evidence
(03:34):
that women are redefining the landscape of our sport. Number
two record breaking performances and emerging stars. The competitive arena
is also evolving with a brand new breed of champion.
Major tournaments are expanding their weight classes to accommodate elite
female talent, and registrations for women's events like the IBJJF
Nogi Worlds that jumped by twenty one percent from last
(03:57):
year twenty one point five to be exact. Today rising
stars Fion Davies, at del Fernarino, Kaya Jackson, Helena Cravar,
Sarah Galvaal. They're all setting fresh benchmarks. Fion Davis, for example,
setting a new technical standard for the Ladies divisions perfect
guard passing submission efficiency, while Kayah Jackson and Helena Cravar
(04:18):
both bring a swagger to the stage that really hasn't
been seen. Their performances are not just wins on the scoreboard,
they're rewriting the playbook and inspiring a new generation of
female grappler. Number three, an empowered community and the future trajectory.
It's not just about numbers on the map, It's about
the culture off the map. Dedicated online communities like Women
(04:41):
who Roll BJJ and BJJ Women These have thousands of
members and that creates a global friendship that's honestly reshaping
the sport. Women's only classes and specialized seminars are now
a staple at like sixty percent of BJJ academies, offering safe,
supportive spaces where female male practitioners can hone their skills
(05:01):
and build lasting bonds. These environments are fueling a future
where sponsorships, media coverage, and digital engagement will increasingly favor
female fighters, ensuring that the next chapter of BJJ is
led by women with explosive growth and participation, record breaking
competitive performances, and an empowered, interconnected community. Women's jiu jitsu
(05:24):
isn't just trending, it's poised to revolutionize the sport.
Speaker 1 (05:29):
