Speaker 1 (00:01):
Hey, everybody who's TJ to say is checking in with
you with another hot take. As I mentioned, the Rounds
were kind of off this week, got things going on traveling,
but he's still giving you everything you need. When it's
concerning combat sports, they have to give you other things
as well. Assault electro Lights a sponsor of the Rounds.
Go visit them music, go to b MAC, you save
(00:21):
some money, get a Hi Grida, all that fun business. Also,
if you're more in a protein you want to balance
out your electrolytes, hit up our friends over at Godfather
Jerky Chips. They got amazing flavors and like I said, protein,
who can't get enough protein? That's a dramatic pause for effect.
All right, matt Elkins, he's got your hot take. And
(00:43):
on the other side of that, I'll tell you how
you can contribute to the Rounds and keep up with
us and stay in touch.
Speaker 2 (00:49):
Now it's time.
Speaker 1 (00:51):
For hot takes.
Speaker 2 (00:53):
I'm not listening to this.
Speaker 1 (00:54):
You are in the same dang Let's hero mat hot takes.
Speaker 2 (01:01):
Hot take. This is the Rounds, Yo. What's up guys?
Matt Elkins here with our Rounds podcast hot take for
the week. What is that hot take? You ask, the
Gable curse is upon us if you did not hear.
(01:21):
One of the greatest NCUBLEA wrestlers of our time, Gable
Stevenson fell trying to achieve his senior year nc double
A championship, would have been his third nc double A championship.
Why is that significant.
Speaker 3 (01:33):
Because his name Gable named after a great Dan Gable
of the Iowa State Cyclones from nineteen seventy all right,
fifty five years ago.
Speaker 2 (01:46):
Exactly. Dan Gable trying to put the stamp on his
final nc DOUBLEA championship, makes it all the way undefeated
until his final match and falls to a Larry Owing,
And so Larry, with possibly the greatest NCUBA upset of
all time, left a chip on the shoulder of old
(02:07):
Dan Gable, and he went on to achieve great things
despite this NCUBA finals curse that he seems to have
left behind for others to follow in his footstep that
also share his name. You understand what I'm saying, all right?
So what I want to ask is how is Gable
Stevenson gonna wind up turning this around and trying to
(02:28):
solidify his legacy as what we believe to be one
of the greatest NCAA wrestlers of all time. Is he
gonna turn this into an Olympic gold medal like Dan Gable?
Is he gonna achieve some type of Hall of Fame
status to solidify himself as one of the goats? Or
are we gonna see him try to transition back into
one of the endeavors that he's already kind of poked
(02:49):
his toe in. If you're unfamiliar Gable. Stevenson left the
NCUBA a couple of years ago and went on to
sign with the WWE and tried to get his professional
wrestling career going. He also had a brief stint in
the NFL trying to play with I believe it was
the Buffalo Bills, even though he never made the final
cut for whatever reason. So it seems like Gable was
(03:12):
very interested in finding one of these other endeavors. Is
it money? Is it just a childhood dream of being
a wrestler professional athlete on a different level than maybe
what wrestling has to offer for professional athletes. Very hard
to make money, very hard to achieve this elevated status
through the sport of wrestling, even though it's one of
(03:33):
the greatest sports that there are super necessary. Are we
going to see him transition into a different thing, or
we going to see him try to make a run
at the UFC heavyweight title or something like that, which
I think would be an interesting mix up in the conversation. Obviously,
he would be one of the greatest wrestlers, but I
believe that he's twenty five years old, twenty four to
twenty five years old. Is there enough time for Gable
(03:55):
to exit wrestling and get into one of these other endeavors.
If he's gonna try to play in the NFL, is
athletic as he is, Is there enough time for him
to make a name for himself, make his way into
the NFL, get paid, get some money, and get out.
Or is he going to be able to have the
acting chops, the stunt chops, the performing chops, to go
(04:19):
out there and make a name for himself in the
WWE and obviously get super paid, or like I said,
is my man gonna have to run in and see
if the UFC wants to prop him up and see
what his hands are talking about. Obviously, I'm very interested
to see what could possibly turn out of this situation
with Gable Stevenson. I think that it's an incredible opportunity
(04:41):
for him to leave, you know, take this chip that's
on his shoulder and rally it into his next venture
in life. And obviously been a huge fan. I think
that Gable has done an incredible amount for the sport,
especially in this new era of nil deals, and kind
of showed what these athletes could possibly do for themselves.
So I think the world is watching. We are definitely
(05:01):
watching here at the Realms Podcast. Thank you guys for
tuning in, and we will see you guys next week.
