Speaker 2 (00:15):
Oh, there's a cooling that I can't igno out in
the while.
Speaker 3 (00:22):
If you keep pushing, gonna hear me. Roll Soul is
on fire.
Speaker 2 (00:29):
Yo. Welcome to the Rounds, the number one podcast in
the world, broadcasting live on this March twelfth. It's US
National Girl Scouts Day, So Happy Girl Scouts Day. It's
all the girl Scouts out there. I'm joined by two
gentlemen that I like to look at as the lemon
up cookie to my thin mints. It is matt Elkins
(00:49):
and B. Macky is the man who knows. B Mack.
What do you know about cookies girl movies?
Speaker 3 (00:55):
Not as much as you. I guarantee it, guarantee you
know more about cookies than I do.
Speaker 2 (01:00):
I went to the Internet and found the least liked
flavor of girl Scout cookies, which I'll have you know
is the lemon up. And you probably you mean I
love mins. Who doesn't love a thin mint? Matt Elkins,
tell me you're not effing with thin mintes.
Speaker 3 (01:17):
Oh, matt Elkins, your mic is muted.
Speaker 2 (01:21):
He's not. He's not with the workings, not muted.
Speaker 4 (01:24):
Brother.
Speaker 2 (01:24):
Well, okay, that's what happens when you don't.
Speaker 5 (01:28):
Jesus, I'm just telling you right now, brother that if
you take that that peppermint garbage and try to sit
in front of me, you might get into gudy chopped
right in the jugular.
Speaker 2 (01:41):
Girls, cookie, do not.
Speaker 3 (01:43):
Come into the Southeastern United States with mint in your cookies.
Speaker 4 (01:47):
Dude, you boys want to put toothpaste and chocolate.
Speaker 2 (01:51):
No, it's it's not. It's got yeah whatever.
Speaker 3 (01:55):
It's got the word mints in it.
Speaker 2 (01:58):
I'll find the brownt. My Scout leader. Brownie is to
my Scout leader. Okay, Matt Alkins, b mac brand, mccatherine.
How are we doing, boys?
Speaker 3 (02:09):
Feeling pretty good. I'm just now recovering from the Las
Vegas trip. I was out there for the entire week
for Fight Pass Invitational, and of course UFC three thirteen
teach you were there.
Speaker 2 (02:22):
I know, I feel like I have almost been apart
from you long enough to say I miss you. But
you know that was probably forty five minutes after you
put me and said he can go home, Like, I
don't know why I had to risk lock me before
I left.
Speaker 3 (02:36):
I mean, you were asking for it. You're a guy
who just looks like he needs.
Speaker 4 (02:40):
A wrist lock prison rules at Lookan's.
Speaker 3 (02:44):
Had a wristlock go viral on the internet this week.
Oh yeah, yeah, that the one he hit at PGF
six when he hit the wristlock from the twister.
Speaker 2 (02:53):
You had to remember Egg had freaking out.
Speaker 3 (02:56):
Yeah, that thing wild on social media this week.
Speaker 4 (02:59):
I did see that. Yeah, I'm super proud of you boys.
Speaker 6 (03:05):
I was sitting here in Alabama all weekend, like, look
at my special boys on TV looking dapper dude.
Speaker 2 (03:11):
We did a million and a half views on that
watch along, Yeah, we did, and we celebrated with the
world's largest pizza. Dude.
Speaker 3 (03:19):
We bought a pizza.
Speaker 2 (03:20):
Was the name of this place, Napolies, Napolis. Yeah, and
the pizza I don't know how it fit in the
delivery guy's car.
Speaker 3 (03:28):
It's literally the biggest pizza I have ever seen. It
was an extra large I was like, oh, me and TJ, well,
we'll kill an extra large pizza after not eating all day.
Speaker 2 (03:39):
It was seventy dollars. That should have been our first
hint that it was too much pizza, but I just
figured it was Vegas prices.
Speaker 3 (03:45):
That's kind of what I was thinking. You know, we'll
get an extra large. It'll be big, but you know,
I'll eat some for breakfast in the morning while I'm
rushing out the door for this flight. Dude, it was
I can't believe it fit into it, Like TJ said,
I can't believe it fit into a car. It was
the biggest pizza I've ever seen, and there was a
(04:07):
two X that I was like, no, that's too much. Yeah,
a medium would have been too much.
Speaker 2 (04:14):
Was delicious, It was pretty good. It was pretty good.
Speaker 6 (04:18):
I mean, it's huge, and that's the that's the allure,
is that it's a gigantic pizza.
Speaker 3 (04:22):
I would have rather had Grimaldi's real talk.
Speaker 2 (04:27):
I will say that we didn't even come close to
eating half of it, and b Mac was nice enough
to offer it to the night shift maintenance department and
hopefully they chatted down on it or they just threw
it away. Either way, it was so big and such
a disgusting mess when we were done with it. It's
good that they disposed of it or gave it to
people who were hungry. There wasn't a garbage can in
(04:49):
that place that would fit.
Speaker 3 (04:51):
No, it wouldn't fit in the dumpster outside.
Speaker 2 (04:53):
No, absolutely not. All right, you ready to get into
it this week and put in the rounds.
Speaker 3 (04:58):
I'm ready, baby, Time.
Speaker 2 (05:00):
For stock up stock down. Basically, we give you a
name or an idea and uh usually the particular in
the situation's coming off of performance, and you tell me
if the stock has gone up or down. We're gonna
go back to the Fight Pass Invitational last Thursday, available
(05:21):
now for encore play anytime on UFC Fight Pass. The
main event saw Nicki Rod, the million dollar grappler, get
choked in overtime. Victor Hugo moves his record against Nicki
Rod to four and zero real naked choke victory in overtime.
B MAC will start with you. You were there a
lot of hype coming in on Nicki Rod being the
(05:43):
most winning athlete that has ever been featured on the
Fight Pass Imitational stage. But he taps to do a
renaked choke stock up or stock down for one Nicki Rod.
Speaker 3 (05:55):
You know, as much as I hate to say it,
I gotta say stock down on Nicky Rod. Like coming
in he was the king of the heavyweight mountain and
coming out of the weekend. He is not the king
of the heavyweight mountain anymore. In fact, it's been firmly
that that has been firmly taken over by Victor Hugo.
(06:17):
He's now four and oh against Nicky Rod, and this
most recent one he finished with a submission, took his
back in a wrestling exchange and put him out with
a rear naked choke. So I gotta say stop down
as far as like who is the best in the division,
(06:38):
it's stock down.
Speaker 2 (06:40):
Yeah, I think that. I mean Victor Hugo victory wasn't
the craziest thing in the world. The line in the
match was minus one fifteen apiece. It was a pick
and match. You know, we mentioned Hugo's record moving to
four and oh. He's three and oh against Nicky Rod
coming into the match, But all of those were decisions
or points. They're all very close, questionable, and in this
(07:03):
fight or match was close leading into overtime. Nicki Rod,
I think kind of sold out, got a little too
aggressive on trying to get a takedown, try to get
points in the bank, and it couldn't have gone any
worse for him. He gets kind of thrown by back
taken and uh ru niked choke locked in, Nicky Rod
forced to tap Elkins. Is there any way to say
(07:27):
that not necessarily that a stock goes up but maybe
doesn't drop that much.
Speaker 6 (07:32):
I would say, look the sports and performance based you're
taking l your stock has to drop a little bit.
Speaker 4 (07:39):
I think it's it's Bitcoin versus Ethereum. Personally, I know
that that.
Speaker 6 (07:43):
Obviously Hugo's gone four and oh against him, But Nicki
Rod still must see TV. Uh Bitcoin, bitcoin dropped, but
Ethereum still got to play some ketchup. If it's four
and oh against it, I don't care. Like I said,
Nicki Rod, one of the most entertaining grapplers. I think
that everyone would tune in again to watch it. And
you know, Victor Hugo shout out to him. Very impressive.
(08:06):
Obviously it would be a terror to try to put
that dude away, even in overtime, So congrats to that dude.
Speaker 4 (08:11):
Definitely stock up on Victor Hugo though.
Speaker 2 (08:14):
Oh yeah, I mean big, so far, so far up
that b Mac and Zultan have the man over and
basically they get a private the next day that blew
me away. Hanging out with Zoe b Mack and who
walks through the front door.
Speaker 3 (08:28):
Victor Hugo. Yeah, dude, what a huge mistake. So I'm
like one hundred and sixty pounds right now. Okay, hey, zo,
let's all let's all roll Okay, great, I'll organize it.
Zoe is like two five two ten probably black belt.
Serge who is three hundred and probably twenty How big
(08:52):
you think Serge is three twenty oh easy? Yeah, and
he's been transcenced like nineteen ninety six.
Speaker 4 (08:57):
Yeah, three bills.
Speaker 3 (08:58):
Yeah, monster black belt, and then uh, Victor Hugo and
oh in cash, all these guys black belts, all way
bigger than me. Oh and let's roll in the ge. Okay,
every potential advantage that I might have is gone.
Speaker 2 (09:20):
I say, I was so happy to see you get
your you know, as pushed in if you will, because
you tried to dupe me. You try to Oh we're
just hanging out, come come hang TJ. And then all
of a sudden, like you want to gee no, I
don't want to gee no, I don't want to train,
(09:40):
especially now with Victor Hugo.
Speaker 3 (09:43):
Dude, that's who you do want to train with? Victory
eighty pounds to eighty All right, I'm one sixty. He
was a terrific role. He never even got close to
hurting me or like trying to crush me. He understood
what was going on.
Speaker 2 (10:03):
He didn't look pleasant, b Mac, you looked like a
grape that was about to pop. You did do well,
though you regarded a couple of times you were moving.
Speaker 4 (10:11):
Let's see, you're getting so much better.
Speaker 3 (10:14):
I did pretty good. I have to I have to say,
you know, I had a I had a decent showing.
Speaker 2 (10:21):
Next time you invite me to hang out, though, don't
don't do that again.
Speaker 4 (10:25):
Please teach his castle.
Speaker 3 (10:29):
I mean, I don't do anything to get him on
the mats, and I just can't do it. I grabbed him,
I grabbed him and body locked him. Uh in the
hotel we were doing prep for the UFC, and I
grabbed him and body locked him, and I thought he
was gonna start crying.
Speaker 4 (10:42):
Matt to grab a boy up and wrestle him right
there in the stairwell.
Speaker 2 (10:47):
You know, it was fitting that Victor Hugo came over
to the castle and turned it into a dungeon of
punishment for I like that all right? Next up in
stock up or down A couple nights after the Fight
Pass Invitational, we saw Alex Padeda look to defend his
title against Maga mid and caliv and Padeda did not
(11:10):
get his hand raised, had a solid first round, kicked
Unclave in that low calf probably north of fifteen times
in the first round, but that was pretty much all
the success that he had. He gets on the mic
postfight and says, yeah, I lost, but he wasn't really
hurting me. I was hurting him in the clinch whatever
(11:30):
I guess Poeton is saying. Basically, Unclav won the game,
but he also left with Padata's belt. Stock up, stock down.
Matt Elkins, your thoughts on Poeton? Where's he standing as
far as the price is concerned?
Speaker 6 (11:45):
Here?
Speaker 2 (11:45):
Is it significantly lower than it was coming into this fight.
Speaker 6 (11:49):
I don't think that it really affects too much of
some of the conversations, you know, like we were talking
about Alex Prayer's star power and all that kind of stuff.
I saw all, you know, some bigger celebrities at the
fight and stuff like that. I still think that he
can rally. Obviously, he took the l so he had
to go stock down. But man, super broke my heart
(12:11):
to watch that happen. I think that it's one of
these situations.
Speaker 7 (12:15):
Uh.
Speaker 6 (12:15):
I don't know if y'all seen the South Park episode,
but if one more of these Russian cats takes it's
like they took their jobs, you know what I'm saying,
Like just another one, another one bites the dust.
Speaker 4 (12:26):
Hated to see that happen.
Speaker 6 (12:28):
The Russian invasion is right there the UFC, brother, and
somebody's got to do something about it.
Speaker 4 (12:34):
I'mmilla, suit back up, brother, what's up?
Speaker 2 (12:39):
I don't think that's a good idea.
Speaker 4 (12:40):
Yeah, I think that I've had I've lost enough brain cells.
Speaker 2 (12:43):
Brother.
Speaker 4 (12:43):
I think that we're here and talk clearly.
Speaker 2 (12:46):
Yeah, I mean it was it was a bit disappointing
in the night. There's a lot of hype around Padeeda.
The line was incredibly close. B back. I actually think
that I maybe bought it into that stock of potato
a little bit too much. I thought it was a
bet the farm situation. It's a good thing I didn't
bet the farm or I don't even have a farm
(13:06):
too bet because i'd be homeless today. But yeah, I
mean it definitely goes down right at the stock on poton.
Speaker 3 (13:14):
I mean for me, it goes down dramatically. I think
it's a big loss to Pereira stock like a couple
of things happen. Number One, now we believe he's beatable
by some of these guys, even if nothing else, that's
a big change in the perception, right, Yeah. So the
(13:36):
other thing is, I just I can't believe that he
fought the kind of fight against Uncleliev that allows us
to have this conversation. Even if he had won that fight,
we shouldn't be having this conversation. Well, the way that
we've put Perea up on this pedestal is like, oh no,
(13:56):
uncle I have doesn't even belong in the cage with him,
but he just I mean, I was surprised coming out
of the weekend to hear people that thought that it
was a bad decision.
Speaker 2 (14:11):
Like there's there's a lot a bad decision.
Speaker 3 (14:14):
A lot of people that you know, they they don't like,
they don't they don't like that Uncle Laiev could win
according to those to the rules. They're like, oh, then
the rules exactly. Like when we were watching the fight,
it was pretty like we were like, okay, around one,
it was.
Speaker 2 (14:35):
Four to one on my scorecard.
Speaker 3 (14:38):
For I would say three two is how I scored it.
But you know, whatever, same thing, like how the fact
that he fought a fight that leaves us big stock
down doesn't mean it doesn't mean like it might be
(14:58):
a good time to buy by the dip, you know
what I'm saying. But there's a dip.
Speaker 2 (15:04):
Yeah, significant one. We're going to get into that a
little bit later on by or Sell, but yeah, it
definitely drops. I feel like it was a solid first
round for Padata, but I think we kind of saw
something that showed and shine through the night because it
wasn't just the first round that Podata was kicking his calf.
(15:24):
I mean he kicked it upwards like thirty five, thirty
eight times something like that, and ultimately Unclelave's calf it
didn't it didn't cave, and uh, you know, it just
was what it was.
Speaker 6 (15:36):
I think it's a testament that you've got it definitely.
You know, it's tough to watch the champ stay on top.
Prayer got thrown in the middle of the conversation at
the titles and all these super fights and all that
kind of stuff, and did he have finally have a
night off. I want to believe that he just had
a night off. I want to believe that they're going
to set up some type of rematch and then he
(15:57):
just dispatches of him. But definitely hurt a lot to
watch that happens that way. They took our jobs, brother.
Speaker 2 (16:06):
All right, so let's let's turn our attention here in
stock up stock down on Magamet Uncle Ive, because clearly
his stock rises. He's now the undisputed UFC's light heavyweight champion.
But maybe it's not up there as high as I
thought it would. If people are really complaining and you know,
bemoaning this sort of usage of the rules on effective
(16:28):
fighting and how to scored, then maybe Uncle Ive is
not on his way to becoming a mainstream main character
for the UFC. Bemack, I know the stock on Uncle
lives is going up, but how much does it go up?
Speaker 3 (16:40):
I mean, it's a slight shift up simply because he won.
So you, like Matt said earlier, it's fighting. If you win,
stock up, if you lose, stock down, even if it's
not that much, you know, So for me, it's a
slight tick upward for Unclelia. Like, I don't think that
I'm more interested to see Uncle Lijah fight after the weekend.
(17:03):
I'm interested. I'm more interested to hear the results. But
I like, did I love watching him? Well, no, I
didn't love that fight, But I mean, there wasn't a
lot to love about it.
Speaker 2 (17:14):
It was just a practical fight, and that is disappointing
because when one champion folds to another, you'd like to
see some of that shine get transferred over. But yeah,
I'm I'm with you. I don't project a huge pay
per view number next time Uncle Iave is out there
defending his title. Now, they always do say that the
rematch is bigger than their first meeting. Matt Alkins, you
(17:36):
any more intrigued on these guys running it back than
you were, say, the first go around.
Speaker 6 (17:41):
Yeah for me, But like I'm a I'm a huge
Alex Pira fan, so I you know, consider it like
John Jones Versus Augustus and one maybe some people said
that Gus got the fight, and then you know they
had a little rematch later on and then John Jones
dispatched of him. That's what That's how I would like
to see this go for the storyline, for the sake
(18:04):
of the championship belt, and you know, the star power
and the promotional promotional side of it.
Speaker 4 (18:11):
I definitely just hope that they give my boy Chama
one more run.
Speaker 2 (18:17):
Well, lucky for you, there's no other option. I mean,
there isn't another fight that really makes sense. I don't
know if it's an immediate rematch. I think that there
are some options that they have, but uh, yeah, Poeton's
not going to be sticking around and not getting another date.
Speaker 6 (18:33):
I'm going to have some more to say about that
later in our hot Takes Brother.
Speaker 2 (18:38):
Okay, fair enough, we'll get to that a little bit later.
Let's go back.
Speaker 3 (18:42):
Did you notice that Keelan popped on the screen here?
Speaker 2 (18:45):
I did, of moment. I just figured he pressed the
wrong button.
Speaker 4 (18:50):
You know.
Speaker 7 (18:51):
I was just listening to y'all talk about the stock
going down of Alex Pereira, and I felt the need
to come on here and say something because to me,
his stock rose. All right, Now here's why. Well, you
recall how many What was the big question going into
that fight?
Speaker 2 (19:08):
It was in my mind, can Uncle I have taken
him down?
Speaker 4 (19:11):
Can he take him down?
Speaker 3 (19:13):
Did he try?
Speaker 7 (19:15):
Did he successfully take him down at all? Over the
course of twenty five minutes? No, did Alex Perera get
in trouble or hurt from any sort of grappling exchanges,
any threatens of any submissions.
Speaker 3 (19:29):
No, no, but he what did it? Get cracked?
Speaker 7 (19:32):
Sod And that came from his hesitation, not from anything
else other than the hesitation in that in that second round,
he hesitated for a second and he got caught. And
you can argue that, like, maybe it's because he's thinking
too much about these grappling exchanges the risk of like
getting taken down, and I hear that. But what I'm
saying is that, to me, what I learned from this
(19:53):
fight was that he is good at grappling. He's serious,
like Margamed's a serious scrappler, wrestler, Dagasteinian, big strong man,
and he could not get Alex down. I think that
this was a huge stepping stone for Alex and that
he's only going to be more dangerous going forward. I
think that he was hesitant, that was his only problem
(20:16):
in this fight. But next fight that no one's doubting
the fact that he could sleep anybody on any given night.
So it's not like, oh, we saw that he was
hesitant in his striking, so next time I'm not gonna
think he's so dangerous of a striker. It's like, no,
he could sleep anybody at any given moment, so his
stock did not go down.
Speaker 2 (20:35):
For me, here's the reason it goes down. To be
a champion, the number one most effective thing in fighting,
and what needs to happen in a fight to remain
a champion is you have to be able to adapt.
You have to be able to adjust. No champion has
ever held their title without being able to adjust, whether
that's between fights or in this case, between rounds. But
(20:56):
Data did not adjust fight IQ. Even if he could
have justin maybe he didn't. Then that's a detriment and
an insult his fight IQ. Something wasn't working. I don't
really know if you can pinpoint it down to one thing,
but yes, he effectively defensive wrestled, But he did not
wrestle effectively because if he did, he wanted to spend
(21:18):
so much time up against the fence. He would have
moved back out to the center of the octagon and
continue to fight his fight. He didn't. After that first round,
he had very little in the way of effective fighting.
And b MAC said it, he was getting tagged a bunch.
Speaker 4 (21:31):
It almost looked like he was like I don't know. Man.
Speaker 6 (21:34):
You know, Poton's not the type of guy that's ever
gonna let anybody know that he's injured or any of
that kind of dude.
Speaker 4 (21:41):
He looked like he was injured, That's what I'm saying.
Speaker 3 (21:43):
He was depressed. To me, That's what I thought.
Speaker 4 (21:46):
Something was definitely off.
Speaker 6 (21:47):
But man, you know, game seven, you gotta you've got
one hundred and four temperature, you gotta, you gotta get
it done.
Speaker 4 (21:53):
Man, that's just the nature that get the beast. And
like I said, I hope that they give my boy.
I hope they give him another shot out of here.
And you know, obviously that's what the people want to see.
Speaker 7 (22:04):
Yeah, And I think in MMA, like when we're talking
stock upstock down, like somebody mentioned it earlier, like if
you lost, your stock has to go down. And I
feel like that's a super hot take because I think
mixed martial arts is one of the only sports in
the world where like yo, anybody, even the best guy
in the world, can lose on any given night. So
I don't see a loss and be like, oh, immediate
(22:25):
stock down. I start asking questions about the loss and
how it looked and stuff. And obviously Alex didn't look fantastic.
But all the questions I had from this fight, like
he answered, well, for me.
Speaker 2 (22:39):
The elusive loss where your stock goes up, it happens
in mixed martial arts a lot. It doesn't ever really
happen though, when you lose a title in the process.
But if you want an example of a fighter losing
a fight and there's stock going up, look at Cody
Steele in his UFC debut. He lost a very close
competitive fight. It was fighting the night raised same thing. Yeah,
(23:00):
there are situations where you're right keeling. You can lose
a fight in the UFC and your stock goes up,
But I didn't see it Saturday night. Auto pa data.
Speaker 3 (23:07):
Well, it's hard to it's hard to have your stock
go up in a championship fight when you lose. Like,
where does it go up to? You know what I'm saying,
Like you're already like peaking. Your stock is just about
peaking right there. Like, but you don't have to have
a very bad day to have a tick down.
Speaker 6 (23:24):
And it would have to be a robbery and the
mob of the general public would have to get behind
you for that, And that's that's a tough situation.
Speaker 2 (23:31):
We are seeing more champions come to prominence now in
the UFC than ever before that don't have to show
their full game, Like, for example, Connor McGregor. You know,
he became a UFC champion and we never really got
to see his wrestling challenged. Uh, you know, Chad Mendez
fought him on two weeks notice, he was out fishing
and came in heavy. I still think that a prime
(23:53):
Sean Shirk not likely to beat Connor McGregor, but could
beat Connor McGregor. And when you look at the disparity
in eras between those two, that's just not the case.
But we do see champions get to a title fight
much faster win that title and not have to show
their full game on the come up. And I guess
there was something we said about Poeton not having to
(24:15):
show a lot of defensive wrestling, you know, leading up
to becoming a two time champion and one of the
greatest the UFC has ever seen. But yeah, it does happen.
Speaker 3 (24:25):
Do you think maybe Sean Shark is the most underrated
forgotten champion in the history of the UFC?
Speaker 2 (24:32):
Yes, one of them, one of them?
Speaker 3 (24:34):
Yeah, yeah, Like as far as.
Speaker 2 (24:38):
He beat Nick Diaz and the feet without ever taking
him down. Think about that.
Speaker 4 (24:43):
That's crazy.
Speaker 3 (24:44):
I didn't realize he didn't take him down, didn't take
him down. Yeah, when he got suspended and got his
belt bowled, that was that really put a dent in
his career?
Speaker 2 (24:56):
Man? Yeah? Yeah, I mean he was never really the
same that he back. I had to fight Bjpenn who
proclaimed that he was dead three or four months before
they ever fought. Remember that post fight interview, one of
my favorite Sean Shirk, You're dead. Go to bjpen dot com.
All right, final item here and stock up, stock down.
(25:20):
Back to the FBI. Hanata Canudo pulled off a Uncanudo
like victory, if I'm using your words, b Mac, in
our Comin event, he beat Oliver Tasa in a very
strategic sort of fight. We know Canudo for his flying
leg attacks and just all action, all excitement, but he
(25:41):
stuck to a game plan, had a good one, and
ultimately gets the nod over Oliver Tasa. I'm gonna start
with you, b Max, stock up, stock down. I know
it's not going down for Canudo. I guess the question
is how much is it going up?
Speaker 3 (25:54):
I think it's up. I don't think it's a giant
jump up. But I think that what Canudo did do
for us is he answered for me some questions like
can he win these tactical matches?
Speaker 2 (26:09):
You know?
Speaker 3 (26:10):
And obviously you know he's got a deep IBJJF record,
He's trained a lot of MMA, and we know he's
making his move over to MMA later this year, so
we know that he can. But he here in the
like since his return to jiu jitsu, it's been all
(26:30):
Instagram highlights every match. And then when we saw him
in the PGF get down into like more protracted exchanges,
he wasn't winning those matches. We saw that he's made
a step forward in his strategic game planning, his ability
to execute on a game plan. And I mean he
(26:51):
fought a perfect match against Taza. I thought stock up
for sure. I think Canudo has shown that he's got
a wide range.
Speaker 2 (27:00):
And now we know you said in the pre fight
preview with Matta Royo Bimac that Tazza does it for
the dub, Canudo does it for the Graham. I think
we saw Canudo do it for the dub.
Speaker 3 (27:12):
He did it for the dub. Yeah, And I respect that.
I respect somebody that does it for the GRAM. I
get that right, But at the end of the day,
Canudo wanted that dub and I absolute that for sure.
So yeah, I think he showed us that he's got
a lot of ways he can win. It's not just
not just win on social media. He can win for real.
Speaker 2 (27:31):
Absolutely a big win for him. And now, as you mentioned,
he turns his sights on the world of mixed martial arts.
Gonna debut with Tough Enough, which is perfect for him
in his backyard. They're gonna sell a whole bunch of tickets.
Probably everyone in his gym gonna go see him put
on those four ounce gloves. Elkin's your thoughts. Stock up,
stock down, but not just in the grappling world for Canudo.
(27:53):
Tell me about his MMA stock is it going up? Here?
Do you have high hopes for oh Man?
Speaker 6 (27:58):
I personally have become a huge Hanada Canudo fan since
getting to meet him. I've you know, obviously watched him
grapple in the PGF, but my man has rallied that
and obviously been showing his skills in a few different avenues.
Speaker 4 (28:12):
And you know, nothing makes my little dark heart.
Speaker 6 (28:18):
Grow in size more than one of these jiu jitsu
boys that decide to throw on the fours and you know,
get to work a little bit. So I'm very excited
to see Hanato go and and put his his skills
in the MMA cage.
Speaker 4 (28:31):
Obviously, I think that he would be a tremendous grappler.
He's going to be submitting guys.
Speaker 6 (28:35):
But I really just love to watch some of these
grapplers turn into strikers and well rounded mixed martial arts.
Speaker 4 (28:42):
That is very pleasing to your boy.
Speaker 6 (28:45):
So yeah, stock up and can't wait to see Hanato
get his get his dub in the m m A cage.
Speaker 2 (28:50):
We'll see what happens. Keep your eye on tough Enough
later this year. That does it. First, stock Up, stock
Down A segment of The Rounds, the number one podcast
in the world world. It's been brought to you by
Salt Electro Lights. Check them out Salt Electro Lights dot Com.
What's the code BMAC. It's simple, I think B mac, BMAC,
save some money, get your electrolts, get hydrated people. Uh,
(29:14):
they're stock going up right now because they sponsor the rounds.
Speaker 3 (29:17):
They sponsor the Rounds and I use those every training session.
I used one last night, so definitely a product that
I use and can endorse.
Speaker 2 (29:27):
Did you have one in your backpack after you were
squashed by Victor Hugo?
Speaker 3 (29:32):
That's right, Nope, didn't have my salt with me in Vegas,
which was a mistake.
Speaker 2 (29:36):
All right, don't leave home without it. All right? Time
for buy er sell.
Speaker 1 (29:40):
It's time for buy or sell.
Speaker 2 (29:41):
Yes, no, by you want to buy an Oh no,
I don't want to buy it.
Speaker 1 (29:49):
It's buy or sell.
Speaker 2 (29:50):
You don't buy.
Speaker 4 (29:51):
Anything, I mean, don't buy anything.
Speaker 2 (29:54):
This is the time for buy or sell. We give
you a topic or a statement. You go, yeah, I'm
buying that, I believe that, or you're selling it because
it's hogwash. I don't even know what hogwash it? What
is hogwash? I figure some Alabamas might know what hogwashes?
What is it?
Speaker 6 (30:14):
That's what's left in the bottom of a sop bucket
out there at the pigs.
Speaker 4 (30:17):
You know what I'm saying.
Speaker 2 (30:19):
Okay, you colla that up fair enough.
Speaker 6 (30:23):
To do something with the TJ at least. Yeah, as
just doesn't show up at the grocery store. It just
doesn't walk its way into Whole Foods and pack itself
on the shelf.
Speaker 4 (30:31):
Brother, somebody got.
Speaker 3 (30:32):
Them what you got to get the hog washed there?
Speaker 4 (30:36):
Look at that hog wash out the bucket.
Speaker 2 (30:38):
Would you would you? Would it shock you to know
that I've never been inside of a Whole Foods.
Speaker 4 (30:43):
I don't believe that. For those glasses scream Whole Foods. Brother, dude, that.
Speaker 3 (30:48):
Wouldn't shock me at all. You do look like you've
been inside a dairy queen a couple of times though.
Speaker 2 (30:53):
That's not that's not fair. The skinniest I've been in years. Bema,
you can make you look great. Thank you. I appreciate
it all right. First item up for buy or sell.
Justin Gaechie, who defeated Rafael Fhiziev in the co main event,
has firmly put himself back into the UFC's lightweight title picture.
(31:13):
Of course, about a year ago, came off a devastating
knockout to Max Holloway when he engaged the Hawaiian in
the middle. In the closing moments that they're about at
UFC three hundred, Holloway put down Gai Chee in devastating fashion.
He comes back, he was so ready, b Mack. He
was punching the logos off of his gloves in the back.
Apparently if you noticed Gaichie rocking in the octagon, just
(31:36):
black UFC gloves allegedly UFC gloves, they don't have the logo.
But what do you think, is he back in the
title picture? You buy in that this win solidifies him
as a shortlist among the contenders.
Speaker 3 (31:49):
Yeah, I'm buying that. And he looked better against PHZIV
than he did in the first matchup he did, So
I'm totally buying it. I think if you look at
what Gagee's done, I mean, his only real loss lately
was in a basically an exhibition match, right, wasn't in
the division.
Speaker 2 (32:09):
See it was in the division, but Max is not
a real lightweight.
Speaker 3 (32:14):
That's what I'm saying. He was coming up, you know.
So yeah, I'm totally by it. And that was a
great fight too, by the way, that was It wasn't
like that was like he got smoked in that match,
like it was one of the greatest fights of all time,
and the UFC just happened to end really poorly because
they're both crazy enough to go out there and let
(32:35):
it in that way. So yeah, I'm buying it. Well,
here's what I'm not buying though, I'm not buying that
the logo rubbed off his gloves.
Speaker 2 (32:46):
Well, it's weird to me that a logo would ever
rub off let alone. Hey it didn't.
Speaker 3 (32:52):
Okay, we are some kind of propaganda is being pushed
by Big MMA. Right here, something near. I've got the
inside scoop I want. This is one of the most
interesting things from the event.
Speaker 7 (33:06):
According to x formerly known as Twitter and the Comment
the comment section, Geechee and his team were mad that
the UFC blurred out Trevor Whitman's gym's logo in the
embedded series, and so they got a little payback. Oh
so they manually Okay, machine brother, Now I don't.
Speaker 2 (33:33):
Know you're modifying the glove. You have an athletic commission
that inspects those gloves. I'm sure they inspected them. I'm
not saying there's anything nefarious with the gloves. They didn't
remove patting, but I am surprised that they didn't go, Look,
this doesn't look right. We're not signing off on these gloves.
Let's get another pair.
Speaker 3 (33:52):
Something the farious is going on. That's what I love.
Speaker 6 (33:55):
So they've tried to get these gloves and right to
get the you know, to have bent fingers, so that
people's the The UFC gloves are very very straight, very stale.
Speaker 2 (34:06):
They changed, remember, but there was some.
Speaker 6 (34:09):
Conspiracy about how even that went down, and the UFC
wanted exclusive rights to the type of gloves, so that
I mean the same way with the Octagon and all
the other thing. They were just trying to you know,
streamline everything and keep it in house. And I think
that that's kind of what's been happening with these these
new gloves that obviously if you've seen them, they're a
great design. But uh yeah, little little glovegate that that
(34:36):
that major boy's hearts swell as well.
Speaker 2 (34:38):
But that's the thing. You can you can get a
pretty big vine for messing with gear like that. I
remember Donald SERRONI he used to stow in a patch
of his like original moy Thai shorts and did it
for all of his fights with every you know profile
he ever had. They moved to the Rebok deal then,
and he still sewed it in and I think he
got hit with like a fifteen thousand dollars fine or
(35:01):
whatever for modifying the fight kit.
Speaker 4 (35:03):
They were not joking about those Reebok kids.
Speaker 6 (35:06):
I got to corner some guys in the UFC in particular,
Eric anders this one time and they gave us the
gear package, and they gave me these board shorts.
Speaker 4 (35:14):
You know, this is a ninety two model. Baby. We
don't wear board shorts. That's not how we get down.
Speaker 6 (35:19):
So I cut these Rebok fight shorts at you know,
aunappropriate length, and then everybody, like the gear guy from
Reebok was like, dude, those are sick. And then we
go to walk out for like a I guess it
was his workout, public workout or whatever, and just.
Speaker 4 (35:39):
Right before one of the guys was like, what did
you do to your shorts?
Speaker 6 (35:43):
And they were and then all of a sudden, Eric
was like, bro, if they if they find me ten
grand for you cutting these shorts off, you redneck.
Speaker 4 (35:51):
I'm gonna kill you. But yeah, they're not joking about
the gear.
Speaker 2 (35:55):
They have a tailor. I mean maybe they don't extend
it to cornerman, but they do have a tailor to Uh,
I'm a Taylor brother, modify those shores. I could have
used a tailor on the night of the FBI if
you sure could have dang, I mean, hey, let me
relish my time. Uh in too big of clothes because
normally it's the other way around. You know, usually they're
(36:16):
too tight.
Speaker 3 (36:17):
But well, no, now that, now that you're skinny, TJ,
now I get to make fun of you for being fat.
I can't do that when you're fat.
Speaker 2 (36:25):
I disagree. It's no better time to do it than
in the moment.
Speaker 3 (36:27):
I gotta, I gotta, I gotta wait till it's not
sensitive anymore. I'm not really trying to make you hate me.
I just want to say something mean that.
Speaker 2 (36:35):
Pretty much sums up our entire relationship. Yeah, all right,
Next up on buy or sell today is lost gives
the UFC better options than a win would have moving
forward with his matchmaking. I know I buy that. I
buy that because let me let me tell you why
(36:55):
I buy it. Uh, what's the fight we want to see?
What is it?
Speaker 3 (36:59):
John Jones versus Predata?
Speaker 2 (37:01):
Correct? Now we're gonna have some time here. They're gonna
figure out the John Jones Tom aspinall thing, win or lose.
I think there's an argument to be made that you
could still put Pata in a fight with John Jones.
Just make it happen, if if, if Alex needs to
take time away, No one's really rushing to have him
(37:21):
come back. And fight Uncle Ive. It spices up the
division a little bit. You can have Uncle I have
fight any number of guys that Patata has fought and
have it be interesting. There's more options there, not only
with Alex but also Unclelve and Uh. At the end
of the day, Dana's really all about giving fans what
they want. More people are gonna say, yeah, let's just
(37:42):
see the John Jones fight. There's not gonna be a
title implication in the way. He's not gonna put the
division on hold.
Speaker 1 (37:47):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (37:48):
This is honestly better for the UFC in trying to
give everyone the fight that we all want with Alex
Padata for the reasons I mentioned.
Speaker 3 (37:58):
Sell a thousand times over. I think that that take
is not only stupid, it's infantile.
Speaker 4 (38:08):
Dude, what you no points?
Speaker 2 (38:16):
Nobody right now, That's what I'm saying.
Speaker 3 (38:18):
So the buy or sell there's more options. And then
my question is who's parade are gonna fight? And the
answer is nobody.
Speaker 2 (38:26):
John Jones, John Jones. Yeah, because here's the thing. If
you if you put Alex in a fight with John Jones,
you gotta wait for the aspinall Jones fighting.
Speaker 3 (38:37):
Actually Jones versus fight is ruined.
Speaker 6 (38:40):
It just turns it into a b MF title for
the heavyweights. Obviously we would have much rather been for
the heavyweight.
Speaker 2 (38:49):
Are we forgetting that Alex Peda lost to Israel Aisnia
and his next fight was for UFC light heavyweight title.
Speaker 3 (38:56):
Let's remember a couple of things about that law. Number One,
it was to Izzy, correct is he's a star?
Speaker 2 (39:06):
Sure is.
Speaker 3 (39:07):
He got a highlight out of it, which was a knockout.
Speaker 2 (39:10):
So you're saying it wasn't.
Speaker 3 (39:12):
Like Pereto was being boring and was it was not
fun to watch coming in like coming into the knockout
like that was a good fight.
Speaker 4 (39:21):
It was.
Speaker 3 (39:21):
We were enjoying it, and it was against a star.
This loss against Uncle Eliev was not against a star,
and it did not produce a highlight, and it did
not feature prereeda fighting great leading into the end of
the fight, like, it was not a great performance from here.
Speaker 2 (39:41):
If they run it back, do you think there's gonna
be less intrigue than their first meeting.
Speaker 3 (39:46):
M No, there'll be more. There'll be more because because
of the loss.
Speaker 2 (39:52):
Okay, so now that's one more option because it wasn't
an option.
Speaker 3 (39:55):
To literally the only option is just run it back.
Speaker 2 (39:58):
Let's just do it again. Other option is to give
everybody what they want, because if you run, if you
have Uncle Ive beat Padeda twice in a row, you
definitely can't make the John Jones fight. It wouldn't make
any sense, make much telling me.
Speaker 3 (40:13):
After what we just saw from Parreta against Uncle IV,
that now John Jones, who possesses all of the problems
that Uncle I have presented at a way more problems
and much bigger and much stronger. No, No, that fight's over,
(40:38):
that's ruined.
Speaker 2 (40:39):
There aren't any less people. There aren't any less people
that are gonna watch it.
Speaker 3 (40:45):
It's weren't, it's worn't.
Speaker 7 (40:47):
The only way that happens is if John Jones loses
to Tom Aspinall, then you can make the fight. They
both lost, they're coming off losses. I'm still excited about
that one, but I'm.
Speaker 4 (40:59):
Never gonna watch it. No, the UFC fight again. If
that happens.
Speaker 7 (41:03):
Yeah, in a world where he wins or doesn't face Aspinall,
there's just you can't make that praier match.
Speaker 2 (41:08):
In my mind, you make fights that sell pay per views,
and that will always sell pay per views.
Speaker 3 (41:17):
It'll sell pay per views to me and you who
are trying to But we're trying the regular dude coming
off of a loss against a not impressive opponent, the
greatest of all time.
Speaker 6 (41:36):
Here, here's my question, is who's uncle of gonna fight?
They're like, here's a here's a two o five guy
with a beard that took her jobs. You know what
I'm saying, it's just nobody wants to war.
Speaker 4 (41:47):
Get that hot garbage out of here.
Speaker 6 (41:49):
Brother, that better be on a Friday night fight past
something that ain't happening.
Speaker 4 (41:54):
Nobody buying that.
Speaker 2 (41:55):
You're crazy.
Speaker 4 (41:59):
Illegally stream it.
Speaker 6 (42:02):
You're gonna pay sixty bucks matt Elkins, seventy bucks.
Speaker 3 (42:07):
We don't illegally stream the fights. Matt Elkins.
Speaker 4 (42:10):
I don't do that. I would never do some garbage
like that.
Speaker 6 (42:13):
But what I'm saying is you're gonna come off of
a sixty piece to watch Jerry versus the guy that
took her dribs.
Speaker 2 (42:19):
Yeah, the the Czech Republic standing up for United States jobs.
Speaker 4 (42:26):
I will wait, Thank god, somebody is brother.
Speaker 6 (42:29):
I will wait until Poeton hops back in there against
anybody else before I'm watching Jerry versus that guy.
Speaker 3 (42:38):
I'll watch uri versus anybody. I'm a huge Prahashka fan.
Speaker 4 (42:45):
But that's what I'm saying.
Speaker 3 (42:47):
I'll give you this, TJ.
Speaker 4 (42:48):
The guy that's not the champ is the selling point exactly.
Speaker 3 (42:52):
I'm buying a lot of new options for Uncle I have.
Speaker 2 (42:57):
The UF was the statement more options, none.
Speaker 3 (43:03):
Of the ones they wanted, though more correct. None of
the ones they wanted correct.
Speaker 2 (43:07):
But they'll still make it amazing. And despite negative Nancy
Elkins over here, he's gonna buy the paper view.
Speaker 3 (43:15):
Do you know Nancy Elkins?
Speaker 6 (43:17):
Further of all, my grandmother's name was Nancy, So TJ,
don't get your little bald hits smacked right here, district
get it.
Speaker 3 (43:24):
Nancy Elkins was a saint.
Speaker 2 (43:26):
Was she an optimist or a pessimist?
Speaker 4 (43:29):
Brother? She was one of a kind.
Speaker 6 (43:31):
I'm gonna go in and tell you she loved American
idol and muting the commercials.
Speaker 4 (43:38):
That was a traumatizing event.
Speaker 2 (43:39):
That might you know? She also was she also a
state wrestling champion here it runs of the family.
Speaker 4 (43:47):
No, but I'll tell you what she was. What she
was wrestling, and that's those Virginia slims.
Speaker 2 (43:54):
All right. Went to a different state title there.
Speaker 4 (43:57):
I like it all right, recipe, Nancy love you.
Speaker 2 (44:03):
That's gonna do it for Uh this we expire sell.
I'm afraid to pitch any other ideas or uh, these
guys might buy a pitchfork and uh.
Speaker 4 (44:13):
We got we got one. Brother, We're from Alabama that
that comes with your starter pack.
Speaker 7 (44:18):
Shea's I gotta turn Look, I can't.
Speaker 4 (44:23):
I didn't even mean to do that. Be back, anybody.
Speaker 6 (44:25):
Resett Keeling presses reset button, brother.
Speaker 2 (44:29):
For for the record, Virginia slim sounds like a new
wrestling tag team.
Speaker 4 (44:34):
Dude, we need to get that going.
Speaker 6 (44:36):
That needs to be the name of of my competition team,
the Virginia Slims.
Speaker 4 (44:40):
The boys would be in full for that.
Speaker 3 (44:43):
TJ is starting a new tag team group called the
Minnesota Chins.
Speaker 2 (44:48):
Come on, we didn't have the sponsors I want to
be here? Is it that.
Speaker 4 (45:01):
The Carolina Crushers?
Speaker 3 (45:04):
You know what I'm saying?
Speaker 2 (45:06):
All right, kind of move over to the hot takes.
I'm afraid to even come up with one. So let's
let's open the floor. Who's got hot take? Who wants
to grab it? Oh?
Speaker 3 (45:17):
Elkins, you go first.
Speaker 6 (45:19):
Yeah, listen, I've been holding my tongue about these last few,
because this hot take has been sitting right here on
the skill at the whole time.
Speaker 4 (45:26):
The conversations that we've been having the whole.
Speaker 6 (45:28):
Time has been about Alex Pereira, And what I'm saying is,
is my opinion, the one to eighty five middleweight division,
one of the most important divisions in the UFC, is
the most boring, overrated, just fluffed up garbage. Watching these
JV boys fight over the title, flailing around, floppy flip
(45:50):
floppy fish. I just can't be sold another fight at
one five Alex Pereira pieced out. We're talking about him
fighting at two to five more than we're talking about
our heavyweight then we're talking about the one eighty five division.
The five division needs to carry their weight. They need
to pick up their pitchforks and start making a case
for themselves. Was they're just they're out there flapping in
(46:13):
the breeze, ugliest worst fights that you've seen in forever.
Speaker 4 (46:16):
The one eighty five division needs to get its act together.
Speaker 3 (46:21):
Jesus, that was a hot take that was aggressive.
Speaker 2 (46:25):
There we go, there's that bell. I like it, you know,
I hate to say it. I agree, and I think
the reason that goes DDP is the King five right
now looks sloppy and I don't know if that's just
his style, if that's the way that he operates, if
it's that he's and remains in South Africa, a country
(46:47):
that while they have, you know, had stars in the past,
they're behind I think the modern times in progression and evolution.
I don't think that you can get the level of
training in South Africa that you can, you know, stateside
or in other parts of the world. I don't, dmac.
Let me ask you this. Do do you feel DDP
is a product of just a goofy fighting style or
(47:11):
does he have some maybe unrefined skills and his footwork
hasn't needed to be on point because of the competition
that he faced on the come up.
Speaker 3 (47:24):
I think he chooses to fight that way. I don't
think it's a skill set problem. I think he just
fundamentally believes that he could do whatever he wants to you,
and so I'm just gonna overwhelm you and pretend you
didn't hit me.
Speaker 6 (47:39):
And to me, it looks like he's trying to fight
his drunk dad or something like that. He's just scared
flailing around. I would rather watch Israel out Asanya and
Alex Pereira FI every weekend forever instead of d.
Speaker 3 (47:55):
Can I just read you right here the middleweight rankings
so that you can just hear how stupid you sound.
Speaker 6 (48:03):
Map Okay, but just tell me who's fighting next for
the one Eddy five title off the top of your head,
and I'll agree with you.
Speaker 3 (48:09):
Brother, Drick is due less. See who I enjoy watching fight?
I don't understand the.
Speaker 4 (48:16):
Hate messiest mixed martial arts champion.
Speaker 3 (48:20):
I'll hear you, Sean Strickland, I'll hear you.
Speaker 4 (48:24):
Mm hmmm, Tamaia, you don't like to watch.
Speaker 2 (48:29):
I do?
Speaker 4 (48:30):
Please save the division? Please?
Speaker 3 (48:34):
Is he you don't like watching?
Speaker 1 (48:36):
Is he?
Speaker 4 (48:38):
Oh? No, listen. But that's what I'm saying is like people, Robert.
Speaker 2 (48:46):
What's his number?
Speaker 3 (48:49):
I'm not actually looking at the numbered list, so I'm
not sure.
Speaker 2 (48:52):
But you know, out of all the fights that you said,
I know there are guys, there are guys that are
ranked above him. That's the fight I want. That's the
fight I want.
Speaker 6 (49:01):
Yeah, where it's it's logjammed waiting on some some of
the guys that are on the back nine to fade out.
Like listen, I just can't say Robert. I can't say
anything bad about Robert Whitaker, but it's not time for
him to be in the title conversation. They need to
They need to the deck super super bad. There's a
logjam up there, and for a while it was Alex Carreira,
(49:21):
and now that he's we're talking about way crazier things.
Speaker 4 (49:25):
They need to.
Speaker 6 (49:26):
Dana needs to dethrone d DP so bad. He needs
to put him oven there and make it happen. It's
just the worst thing.
Speaker 4 (49:35):
I think he's got.
Speaker 3 (49:37):
Got some appeal. I think he's got some public appeal.
Speaker 4 (49:40):
I wanted to watch him fight Israel Aisanya because gave shine.
Speaker 3 (49:47):
He gave him the shine, right like I.
Speaker 4 (49:49):
Have it by himself. If you don't have it, I
think he does now.
Speaker 3 (49:53):
I think he's learned how he got that, he got
that publicity. Rub dude. I think he's doing pretty well.
I mean, look, you can hate him, you can hate
on his fighting style, but that guy's crazy, crazy effective
and I enjoy watching him. I enjoy the lead up
to his fights. Now do do do do?
Speaker 2 (50:19):
Do do do? We can't do any more.
Speaker 6 (50:21):
That's me waiting on the on the DDP fight to
pass by. So that we can watch him I have
or something like that.
Speaker 4 (50:28):
I just can't. It's not for me. Brother.
Speaker 7 (50:31):
I know I wasn't scheduled in your little hot.
Speaker 2 (50:35):
But I just I just have to.
Speaker 7 (50:38):
I think I'm gonna go a step further than Matt
here whoa Not only is one hundred and eighty five
pounds one of the if not the worst division in
the UFC right now, but all the divisions are the
worst that they've been in twenty years, not skill wise,
like like all these champs would probably beat the champs.
Speaker 4 (50:55):
You know whatever. I'm saying.
Speaker 7 (50:56):
It's the most boring. There's the least star power, and
the UFC needs their guys need to like Perira to win.
Unfortunately that didn't happen, and it's just been a case
of that and this is the most boring time, Like,
here's the champions. Let's just listen to the champs. Okay,
Flywaight's pantosia, which look phenomenal. Fighter dude, I'm not tuning
(51:18):
in all right, Wow, Morob, you know what, I'm starting
to like him more like it's hard not to, but
he's still not like I don't feel the star power
for Morob. Sean O'Malley had all the star power and
gave it to Morob insane to Pouria. That's my favorite
champ right now. Islam is the best, but no one
cares to watch him. I like, now, I'm just not like,
(51:39):
he's not exciting. I'm sorry. Mohammed another champion that I
just don't care to tune into, Crazy du Plessy. His
fighting style makes me feel like I've been training for
no reason. Margamed, we all know that was like, okay, whatever.
And then heavyweight is the John Jones and Tom aspinall show.
Everyone else in that division is like, what are we
(52:00):
even doing here?
Speaker 6 (52:01):
Alex Pereira has more power and more weight even after
his loss this last weekend than a lot of those
dudes that you said, Like you said, Pantosia amazing mixed
martial artists, one of the bast dudes ever at that
weight class.
Speaker 4 (52:15):
But I'd rather watch Polton hot back in there.
Speaker 6 (52:19):
So yeah, I mean, there's the divisions are not being
promoted on the same star power level, and I think
that the UFC tries to control of some of those narratives.
I think that we all know that they do a
great job at pushing the fights I think that right now,
it's just hard to make some of the things. There's
a bit of a logjam with some of the storylines
until you know, like a like who's the cat ruffy
(52:41):
from this weekend? Like, like, let that guy continue to
do what he's doing. Now we've got one of the
you know, one of these international stars, even like Elia Tupori,
like you said, I mean, definitely won some people over,
cracking some fools. But even him, he's like he's got
that thing, but he's not really like stepping into that role. Uh.
Speaker 3 (53:00):
Necessarily, you guys are like just thinking about the US
market only also like I'm thinking global market, Like who
actually moves viewership, who moves the needle, who sells pay
per views? Who puts eyeballs on these advertisers of Americans? Uh,
(53:22):
Islam is the biggest star of everybody. Mohammed is the
biggest star on that list that you just gave out.
And you don't like him. Let me say it's not
the style that I like. That dude has more eyeballs
on him than anybody in the sport.
Speaker 7 (53:42):
If you could only tune into a Perira fight or
an Islam fight, because they're fighting at the same time.
Speaker 4 (53:47):
Which one are you?
Speaker 2 (53:49):
I'm turning into Islam. He's the number one pound power in.
Speaker 3 (53:57):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (53:57):
Let me let me ask Kelan. This is Nancy your
grandmother too?
Speaker 4 (54:01):
A handsome boys, because you see that head of hair
right there too.
Speaker 3 (54:05):
All right, In a lot of ways, Nancy's our grandmother.
Speaker 4 (54:09):
We are grude, all right.
Speaker 2 (54:14):
I got a hot take real quick. If Matt Elkins
never trained jiu jitsu, he'd look like Vice President JD. Vans.
Speaker 4 (54:24):
I'll take that.
Speaker 2 (54:26):
That's a hot the truth.
Speaker 3 (54:28):
It's a hot take coming from somebody look exactly like
Billy Corgan of the Smashing Pumpkins.
Speaker 2 (54:35):
We don't need.
Speaker 4 (54:38):
Nobody clip that.
Speaker 3 (54:39):
Listen to me, don't ever do that again. Look me
in my eyes right now and promise me you will
never sing on this podcast ever again, even as a joke.
Speaker 2 (54:50):
I can't do that.
Speaker 3 (54:52):
I don't know if this is going to be able
to move forward.
Speaker 2 (54:57):
I can't do it.
Speaker 6 (54:57):
And I'll just let you know that I am feeling
a little bit residential with this new haircut brother right now,
feeling feeling like twenty twenty eight might be the year.
Speaker 2 (55:08):
Running in a platform to save our jobs. Sarett Elkins.
He's a candidate for you be back any hot takes
that might cement or destroy future political.
Speaker 3 (55:19):
I think I got one that will support my future
political ambitions. Okay, hot take, Women's BJJ is poised to
outpace men's BJJ in the next decade. That hot enough
for you?
Speaker 2 (55:36):
All right?
Speaker 3 (55:36):
Let me make actually, let me make my case spicy
hot take for it. Women's Brazilian jiu jitsu is on
track to outpace men's in growth, in participation, competition, and
influence over the next stake over the next decade. Now,
you might think that jiu jitsu is still just a
guy's sport, But I'm gonna give you some numbers that
I think are gonna help change your mind. And they're
(55:59):
kind of wild, all right. Number one point number one
raw numbers. According to the IBJJF, women's participation in jiu
jitsu has skyrocketed. In twenty nineteen, women made up just
twelve percent of IBJJF competitors. That was three thousand, five
hundred out of twenty nine thousand total athletes at their majors.
(56:21):
Fast forward to twenty twenty four and that's jumped to
eighteen percent, which is now six thousand, eight hundred out
of their thirty eight thousand total competitors, ninety four percent
increase in female participation in five years, Men's has grown
thirty one percent, still up quite a lot, but ninety
four percent growth versus thirty one percent growth in the
(56:42):
US alone, The USA Jiu Jitsu Federation reports women's memberships
grew from eight thousand in twenty twenty to fifteen thousand
and twenty twenty four, eighty seven point five percent rise
compared to twenty two percent increase for men. Point number
two at the actual look at the actual matts, and
twenty twenty four IBJJF World Championship women's divisions saw a
(57:05):
forty five percent increase in entries compared to twenty twenty three.
That's in one year, over twelve hundred female competitors across
all belt levels. And they're not just showing up, they're
actually like, check this out. In the black belt divisions,
women accounted for twenty eight percent of the gold medals,
which is up from nineteen percent in twenty twenty. So
more divisions, more women coming into those divisions, and at ADCC,
(57:31):
this is fascinating. Women's matches drew a thirty percent higher
viewership spike on streaming platforms than men's matches. Meanwhile, twenty
twenty three, ibjjf pans saw women's black belt matches averaging
a fifteen percent higher attendance in person than men's according
to Event Data point number three, Cultural shifts and media buzz.
(57:57):
Why is this happening? It's not just about participation and
it's about cultural shift. Social media is driving that super hard.
On X hashtags like Women's BJJ and Girls who Grapple
have seen one hundred and fifty percent increase and mentioned
since twenty twenty two, with over five hundred thousand posts
in twenty twenty four alone, according to hashtag analytics brand
(58:18):
snob that's the name of the analytics company. High profile
female BJJ athletes like Mackenzie dernvia Mesquita are becoming crossover stars.
Dern's Instagram has grown over eighty percent in two years.
She's now at the two point five million mark. In MMA,
women like Kayla Harrison and jang Way Lee are pulling
(58:39):
huge UFC pay per view numbers. Harrison's UFC three hundred
debut drew one point two million buys. I'm not saying
that she's the reason, but she was a big reason
point number four why women's BJJ will lead to the
next wave. Women's BJJ isn't just growing, it's set to
outpace men's Because of this momentum. With a ninety four
(59:01):
percent participation jump, globally higher competition engagement media buzz, women's
BJJ is tapping into a younger and more diverse audience.
The IBJJ the IBJJF project. The ib JJF projects that
by twenty thirty, women could make up twenty five percent
of all practitioners worldwide, up from eighteen percent today, while
(59:24):
men's growth stabilizes at five percent annually. Adding the fact
that sixty percent this is the most interesting stat of
all to me, Sixty percent of new BJJ JIM members
in twenty twenty four were under age twenty five, and
women make up thirty five percent of that group. You've
got a recipe for a female led jiu jitsu revolution.
(59:48):
That's my hot take.
Speaker 4 (59:50):
I'll I'll big on it.
Speaker 2 (59:53):
Here the bell, here, the bell, Thank you appreciate it.
So I got.
Speaker 6 (59:58):
Personally when you when you were spitting that first utterance
of the hot take, I was like, man, this this
one's super spicy. But then I started considering like even
something I'm not a huge fan of, like the power Slap,
but check it out a hundred times out of one hundred.
Speaker 4 (01:00:16):
I'm trying to watch these these ladies.
Speaker 6 (01:00:18):
They just they got a little something extra going behind it,
and I definitely think that you could be onto something.
There are a ton more female practitioners I've noticed just
in different you know, in traveling and going to open mats. Uh.
You see Gym's like tenth Plane at Austin, Texas has
a huge women's presence. You know, the n Cuba I'm
(01:00:39):
pretty sure just made women's wrestling and official sport. So
I think that there are some some trends headed that way.
B Mack, you might be onto something right there, brother.
Speaker 2 (01:00:51):
I agree with everything that you said, B mac. You
came with stats, a lot of stats, ninety nine percent
of which were useful. The one I like was Kayla
Harrison's UFC debut number because there was UFC three hundred,
very very tough to point at that at that one
as Uh.
Speaker 3 (01:01:10):
I'm not saying that's the reason, but the fact I
understand I under a million buys.
Speaker 2 (01:01:16):
Well, why did they put.
Speaker 3 (01:01:19):
That she was going to add.
Speaker 2 (01:01:21):
Fair?
Speaker 4 (01:01:24):
I will chose a smooth move. It was perfect.
Speaker 2 (01:01:28):
I will ask you this, though, what is the reason
that more women are doing jiu jitsu? You mentioned some
UFC fighters, you didn't You kind of alluded to some
BDJ players that are role models and uh, you know,
are sort of setting the stage. But is there one
focal point where you can, you know, point to this
(01:01:48):
person as being the reason that, you know, young girls
all around the world are going, you know what, I
need to get involved in jiu jitsu. That's fine.
Speaker 3 (01:01:57):
I think has done a lot to move the sports forward.
I think Mackenzie Dern has done a lot to move
the sport forward. I think when we see some of
these ladies like Aaron Blanchefield moving from jiu jitsu into mma,
I think that that helps move the sport forward and
it makes these girls realize that there is a potential
career path for them. But really, I think it's just
(01:02:20):
as the schools across the country get better at not
I don't want to say catering to women, but making
women feel like they're welcome there and that they have
a place where they can come train. As the schools
continue to get better and better at that, then the
participation from the ladies is going to continue to grow.
Speaker 2 (01:02:43):
Maybe it's that sweet Alabama accent you have, but I'm
I'm kind of buying every.
Speaker 3 (01:02:48):
And I think the girls want the girls want to
see girls. They want to see girls get out there
and do the thing. And you know what's the most
untapped market in the sport, it's the women. And the
women are hungry to see somebody who represents them out
there doing it in a big way.
Speaker 7 (01:03:05):
So how much did the Gabby Garcia and Cji thing impactor?
Speaker 3 (01:03:11):
I mean that was the biggest factor of the whole thing.
For sure. That was bigger than the million dollars as
far as like public consumption is concerned, I.
Speaker 6 (01:03:23):
Definitely think there's also like when you're talking about the
dynamic of the gym culture and stuff like that, For me,
a lot of times guys, if you know, whether it's
a CrossFit gym or a jiu jitsu gym, guys kind
of have the conversation like, yeah, man, it's so intense,
I don't know if you'll be able to handle it.
Speaker 4 (01:03:38):
It's like crazy, you know, it's not for everybody. And
then women are like, oh yeah, like you're gonna love it. Girl,
and I just I.
Speaker 6 (01:03:44):
Feel like between you know, Ronda Rousey some years back,
and then of course you see some bigger female stars
coming up in the sport.
Speaker 4 (01:03:51):
I just think that it's it's just at a tipping point.
And I mean, that's awesome.
Speaker 6 (01:03:55):
Bro.
Speaker 4 (01:03:56):
Like I said, the ladies usually bring more for men
and women.
Speaker 6 (01:04:01):
I think that it's great for the sport that if
the women continue to steal the show a little bit.
Speaker 2 (01:04:08):
I think you steal the show when you speak in
your email you're gonna love it, girl, It's gonna be great.
Speaker 4 (01:04:17):
I like that.
Speaker 2 (01:04:17):
I like that a lot. All Right, spicy steak goes
to be mac, but I think it's it's rooted in
logic and a lot of stats.
Speaker 3 (01:04:25):
And you know what, I just realized that I like winning.
I didn't know we were having a contest for who
could have the hot take, but now every week, well
me and Matt gotta come prepared with the hottest teak,
and then TJ.
Speaker 2 (01:04:40):
Crown's a winner, and I'm the first winner, and you
get in the god you get into the Godfather Jerky
Chips winner because you know you want you want pepper.
They got it over at Godfather's DJ. That was pro
use that code be back.
Speaker 4 (01:04:57):
He's the best brother.
Speaker 2 (01:04:59):
Yeah, don't try to like come correct now and butter
my bread on the way out here and try to
think that will make up for all that note.
Speaker 3 (01:05:08):
I want to make up to you by offering you
twenty five percent off at Godfather Jerky Chips dot com
if you use the code b mac.
Speaker 2 (01:05:16):
Is that response the mail for free? It kind of
fires me up with that that spice that I'm gonna
get from these Godfather drinks.
Speaker 6 (01:05:26):
That hot take that I was talking to you boys about, uh,
the hot take is that TJ DeSantis stole the show
at the broadcast booth at the Fight Pass Invitational. He
was absolutely glowing. Keeland, I don't know if you can,
I don't know if you can pull up sure up,
But TJ DeSantis has has been taking some of these
some of these jabs to the body pun attended and
(01:05:49):
then he's been you know, he's he's been in keytosis
for about three weeks now and he's looking slender and
slim right there. TJ no next before too long, and
then you know he was glowing. I mean check the
Instagram posts.
Speaker 2 (01:06:02):
Usually when when when people say that I'm glowing. It's
because I don't grow outside. I don't have a tan,
but i'll i'll feel like you did a thing or something.
Speaker 3 (01:06:11):
You know, didj I thought you.
Speaker 2 (01:06:17):
I mean, it's all about the face. My face looks
a little smaller. I looked thinner. I had some nice
new thick room glasses on. I was looking good about
my appearance despite Jenny Craig, you know the body not
even a lot. You know you're not body working. We
have talked for too long The Round. Have you missed
(01:06:39):
any part of this? Go check it out on Spotify,
Apple Podcasts, wherever you listen to podcasts. Really and uh,
join up and be part of the podcast revolution for
b mac GRENA mccatherine and Matt Alkins and the late
Nancy Elkins. I'm tejer, just saying this the next time
for the Round.
Speaker 1 (01:06:57):
