Visit https://lifewave.com/RoseMD to learn more or call 866.202.0065 ------------------------------------------------- Dr. Keith Rose discusses the ancient Greek term *amathia*—willful ignorance where intelligent people actively choose not to learn despite capacity. How does this word connect to current crises: politicians urging troops to defy orders, abortion debates, gender surgeries for minors, and pandemic-era censorship. Drawing on Socrates (who saw *amathia* as the root of evil) and the Bible, Dr. Rose argues modern leaders and citizens exhibit "moral love affairs with darkness," preferring self-justified ignorance over truth. This *amathia*—a distortion of reason by ideology and fear—has led to societal collapse. The solution, according to Rose is personal redemption: confessing sins, accepting Christ and  baptism. Only by turning away from self-deception and embracing God's righteousness can the nation be restored.

Speaker 1 (02:28):
Welcome to the Scalpel. This is doctor Keith Rose. I
just called Everett out of the blue because I'd been
doing some reading, some studying and a lot of work
and something hit me. I started going down this rabbit
hole and I called Evert and I said, let's do
a podcast. So here we are. And I pray with
all my heart that you will listen to what I

(02:49):
say today, not because it's coming from me. That doesn't
mean anything. Now those are just words, but I pray
that it strikes your conscience and rings true in your heart.
I had finished surgeries today and I was running, sat
down and looking through X and I saw a post
by a dear friend of mine, Dakota Myers. Dakota won

(03:10):
the Medal of Honor in Afghanistan and he's an outstanding man,
and he was commenting on what has been blowing up
on X. And that's where Senator Mark Kelly and other
politicians are calling on US troops to defy orders and
say that they are not legitimate orders. You have people

(03:34):
in the intelligence community that are now politicians, that were
in the intelligence community that are not politicians calling on
military men and women to dofi orders and just say
they're unlawful, And as I watch our current politicians tell

(03:56):
our military to commit treason because that's what it would be,
as I watch former people in the intelligence community do
the same thing, and more importantly, actively work against President
Trump and his administration, I feel like I have a

(04:16):
bird's eye view to a lot of situations that I
would have never in my wildest dreams believe could happen
fifteen to twenty years ago, even ten years ago. So
I wanted to understand it. I wanted to understand why

(04:37):
the American citizens are acting the way they are. Why
are politicians While they've always not been the best people
in the world, everyone still seemed to have a common goal,
a semi moral compass of good versus evil. But now
all that's been turned upside down. Today our politicians call

(05:01):
abortion reproductive health care. We have politicians calling radical surgeries
on kids not old enough to even understand what's going
on as gender reassignment. And the sad part is we
have a large amount of our populace that is going

(05:23):
along with this. We saw this craziness start on a
mass scale during COVID when doctors refused to speak up
and just quote followed the science which made no sense
to a lot of us. And every time someone tried
to speak up, they were canceled or they were shouted down.

(05:47):
And I really wanted to understand what this is. And
so as I was reading and I was studying, I
came across an ancient Greek word called amanthea, which translates
to intelligent stupidity or wilful ignorance. It refers to a
type of ignorance that is not merely a lack of knowledge,

(06:09):
but rather an unwillingness to learn, or an active choice
to remain ignorant despite having the capacity to learn and
the capacity to know better. Unlike simple ignorance, which may
stem from just a lack of exposure or understanding, amanthea

(06:32):
involves a conscious decision to ignore evidence or just refuse
to learn. Socrates, the stoic philosopher, spoke on this at
great length, and I believe Amanthia remains relevant today because

(06:54):
it is highlighting the issues related to cognitive dissonance, herd mentality,
and the dangers of ideological rigidity that are plaguing our
nation on a daily, hourly, and minute by minute basis.
It serves as a reminder and listen to this that

(07:15):
individuals can get trapped in their own beliefs, leading to
societal harm when they refuse to engage with conflicting information
or perspectives, or just simply put, refuse to engage with
truth and reality. And understanding amanthea can help in recognizing

(07:36):
the root of willful ignorance and contemporary discussions about morality, ethics,
and social responsibility. Oswald chamber is one of my favorite authors,
often talked about invincible ignorance, and I believe he was
pretty much describing amanthea. Basically, it's why do people that

(07:59):
are intelligence smart people believe in stupid things? The answer amanthia.
Now it's translated as ignorance, but that doesn't really capture
its depth because it's not a lack of intelligence or
the ability to learn. It's basically intelligent stupidity, the corruption

(08:27):
in those who know how to think but absolutely refuse to.
Socrates believe that amanthia was the root of all evil.
Let me build this out for you. Socrates was saying
that amanthea was the root of all evil, not ignorance
of not knowing, but the ignorance of not wanting to

(08:49):
know the actual truth. Socrates describe men like al Sabides,
a general and a politician at that time, who was
admired for his eloquence and his ambitions. But Socrates saw
something fatal within him. What Socrates saw was what he

(09:11):
called the illusion of wisdom. Where Alcibates mix took cleverness
for understanding. The general could argue any position, when any
debate with anybody, and yet never questioned himself. That Socrates
warned was the essence of amanthea. It is the blindness

(09:34):
of the soul, not of the mind. If you look
at it from a biblical perspective, it is a blindness
of the soul, a blindness of the moral compass, not
of the mind. The philosopher Carl Popper said that the
greatest enemy of knowledge is not ignorance, but the illusion

(09:55):
of knowledge. It's when the intellect becomes a weapon of
self deception, when reason serves ideology instead of truth. That
is why otherwise intelligent people, you know, the really smart people,
believe and do stupid or evil. They think they have
invested too much of their own identity and being right,

(10:19):
and when being wrong could threaten that identity, their minds
close completely like a fist within them, and amanthea cannot
be cured by arguments or better data because it because
it is not a lack of reason, it's a distortion
of reason. The corruption of the intellect by ideology, ego,

(10:42):
and fear is what the Stoics leaders called disnoledge. You
hear a lot about disinformation, but Socrates called amanthea disknowledge,
a sickness. He thought of the soul caused by false
beliefs and bad education. It begins not in the brain,

(11:04):
but in the character of oneself to admit, hey, I
might be wrong. But the person doesn't do that because
he risks losing who he thinks he is. And then
people retreat into certainties politics, religion, culture and defend them
all with weapons of their own intelligence. It's what we're

(11:28):
seeing today. It's what we're seeing people say the science,
we're the smartest, we know what we're doing. They rationalize
and distort and deceive, but not because they are stupid,
but because they're clever enough to make those delusions look rational.
I basically just describe the entire Biden administration, and in

(11:50):
every era amanthea has worn different masks, and ancient Athens,
it took the form of political pride. Today, it may
appear more as a digital certainty a war where information
is infinite within us, but true understanding is rare. Socrates

(12:11):
said that no man does evil knowingly, But perhaps the
tragedy of our time now is that many do it
knowingly and call it good like I started off. When
you call bad good and good bad, that's what we're
seeing today. We're seeing it in our intelligence community. We're

(12:33):
seeing it in areas of former leaders in our military
and politicians. They've lost their morals. And when you lose
your morals, you lose your mind. God set his kingdom

(12:53):
on moral fiber optics. I guess that's the best way
to describe it. God set up the kingdom who work
the Kingdom of God on a moral righteous light, And
when I set my morals or reject them, I lose
my ability to think. Is that what we're seeing right now?

(13:14):
Because God set up everything on his righteousness. The Bible
says his throne is the throne of righteousness, and his
scepter is a scepter of righteousness. Everything runs on righteousness.
One of the most important Bible verses is seek ye
first the Kingdom of God and his righteousness, which translated
is moral righteousness. And so first, when God calls you,

(13:37):
you walk through the door. You walk through. The door
you walk through is morals. Those that hunger and thirst
after righteousness, they will befilled. The Bible says, your conscious
is set by morals, and Satan knows that. So what
he adds is the counterfeit morals to create a counterfeit

(13:58):
reality that leads to a real destruction. And I believe
that's what we're seeing in our nation today. So how
do we deal with this? How do we deal with
the amanthea of our time? Well, the Bible talks about it.
It actually describes it. You know, the Bible verse. Everyone

(14:21):
knows John three point sixteen. For God so loved the
world that he gave his only begotten son, that whoever
believes in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
And it continues for God to not send his son
into the world to condemn the world, but that the
world through him might be saved. He who believes in

(14:44):
him is not condemned, But he who does not believe
is condemned already because he is not believed in the
name of the only begotten Son of God. And John
three goes on to say, and this condemnation, that the
light has come into the world. Now listen to this.
And men love darkness rather than light. I guess you

(15:07):
could say they loved Amanthea because their deeds were evil.
For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not
come into the light lest his deeds should be exposed.
But when he who does the truth comes into the light,
that his deeds, deeds may be clearly seen that they

(15:28):
have been done in God. So how do we fix
this nation? How do we fix this problem in leadership,
the rampant immorality we're seeing right now? How do we
fix this? We fix it by bringing things into the light.
First of all, you bring yourself into the light. I

(15:49):
accepted Christ at forty five years old. I said I
was a Christian before that, but I had no fruit.
I had nothing that would explain to you that I
was a Christian. But I did come into the light.
I came into the light, and the first thing I
did I got baptized. Now my baptism wasn't just to
say that I was a Christian. It was a baptism

(16:12):
that John the Baptist talked about. It was exposing myself
to reality, saying that I had committed great evil, I
had broken covenant with God. I had committed many many
immoral sins, and I set them all at my baptism.

(16:32):
And when I did that, I told on myself. And
when I exposed myself, I was able to step into elite,
the reality and the light. It was explained to me.
If you don't do your baptism right, you step into
the twilight zone. But if you confess and bring yourself
into the light, then you can have a light that

(16:55):
will light your path. Because if you tell on yourself,
Satan has nothing to hold onto you, with nothing to
hold over you. So I would encourage those that have
maybe stumbled a lot, whether you're on a certain list
or you've done things wrong, if you really loved the Lord,
if you really want to come into the light, if

(17:15):
you want to live in Elthia reality and not Amanthea
intelligence stupidity, if you want to save this nation, come
into the light, confess, turn to God and ask him
to save the nation. Because this nation is not going
to be saved by the intelligent elite class. This nation

(17:39):
is going to be saved by men and women that
turn their face to God, hit their knees and humbled
themselves and turn away from the intelligence they claimed, the
stupidity that they lived, and the immorality that drove them
into the light where God can show them reality, redeem them,

(18:03):
renew them. Greatest thing about the Christian life is renewal.
Once you confess your sins, there as far as the
east to the west, and then you can have righteousness,
more righteousness, not something that is from you, but is

(18:25):
from the King of kings. I don't have righteousness, I
have Jesus. Righteousness lives in me. Then I love what
God loves and I hate what God hates. But I
look at things differently, and then I can speak truth,
not from my righteousness, but from His. Then I can
have courage, not from my righteousness, but from his. And

(18:47):
I can stare down the amanthea of this age and
bring it into the eliteia the reality of the Kingdom
of God. And I believe if we do that, that's
pretty much how we're going to fix a lot of
these problems and keep freedom roll.
