Speaker 1 (00:02):
It is Tuesday, February eleventh, twenty twenty five. It's the
s MS Show with James Junior. I am James, a
junior super organizer. Welcome to the show today here on
a Tuesday. Eleven is my favorite number, and we're gonna
talk about desk organization. I know it sounds exciting, but
trust me, it's some good stuff. I my thanks, and

(00:24):
graduade go to my sister's Andra. It's her birthday today.
I love her very much her. She is there for
me when I need her. She lives a few blocks
away from me actually too with her husband, and she
is just a good big sister who is there for me.
So I just wanted to say shout out to her.
I don't you ever watching the show or not, but

(00:45):
happy birthday. And Gradus assists if you know her, don't
say ahead to her birthday. So desks discuss issues. I'll
tell you something. It's it's when I had to get
a new desk. That's a part of disorganization. Before you

(01:07):
begin any disorganization, and make sure you have a desk
that works for you. Meaning I want I've always wanted
L shaped desk. I used to have a desk and
I had get TV trains or whatever. So I've always wanted
l shaped desk. Tony Moore got me one. My friend
Tony Moore, he's got on the show. He left Tony
follow him at lounge with Tony. He got me a
desk the what I wanted. We put together and it's

(01:30):
just beautiful, wonderful. I love it. I'm looking at it
right now. But I wanted a desk. I'm left handed,
to have an open space on this side to my
left hand. It's free and so I can actually have
my mouse where I want it and where I can
write on the left hand side. So all my my
notebooks and things are on the left hand side, and

(01:51):
I read left to right. And then I have my
things I'm working on right over here. I can't show
you now. I'll post the pictures later. So things are
working on over here. Looking a few things up front.
I have a little radio in front of me, my screens,
I have two screens. My lights are on the left
if anything turned away. But first of all, just having

(02:13):
a desk that works for you in general, a type
of desk. So we were like small Dance my big desk.
So we were like, why desk. My desk, and that wide.
It's very it's a very narrow rectangular shape. So I
don't want anything that big, but I just want an
l shape. I love it. I love it. So that's
first before you begin anything. You have desky words you

(02:33):
give use. When I organized my desk the way I
wanted to, it felt good. Seriously, I'm not even just
trying to blow smoke up your behind. It felt good.
It really did enhance my focus, got everything in a
little neat, little spots, and I was like, okay, this

(02:55):
really works for I can really I want to work
at my desk. It was it makes you made me
want to come to my desk. That alone is worth
or whatever. But I've make sure I can organize. When
it gets disorganized, I feel disorganized, and some of you
might feel the same way. And I even know it.

(03:15):
You're just like I don't like doing anything or I
don't know how to get there. It's because your desk
is a mess. I want it to be for mecuse
is work. I wanted for me to be very professional.
By no people have who are gamers, they have it
very for their gaming. It's very it's very set up
professionally as a gamer, whatever it is, use your desk

(03:37):
for and computer stuff for. That's what's so when you
want to have a clear desk because of that, it
helps to be stress free. It's uncluttered, uh and also
uses distractions we're just like get And it also helps
you want to work because you're going, I just have
still over here, I still over here, I still over here.
It's all organized. You're like, Okay, I'm gonna handle of

(03:58):
this now. And to me, little small steps into large rewards.
And that's my saying. Study show out there, but I
not of the studies, but I have seen that when

(04:18):
you're clutter, it's there. It's hard to concentrate. Sometimes you
may tell yourself, well, I know where everything is. It's
it's the chaos thing theory where I know anything is.
It's crazy, but I know anything is. But you are
still kind of hair brain, hairy brain. You're still thinking

(04:39):
in chaos terms. You want to stop them. Get tired easily.
The last thing I want to do is do work
on his desk, yummy and drink something. You don't do

(05:01):
any work because you're like just just too much. So
you want to you wanna livate you want to your
death should be a place, seriously, just should be a
place that you want to come to, not dread. What
should be on your desk whatever you deem your essentials.

(05:21):
And I drew a little list of things because I
want I'm looking down the rot a list. I was like,
there could be any any of these things, any and
all of these things. Laptop, computer charger. In some cases,
my charger is in my computer, which helped with less
clutter because I actually playing back like computer and and
charge my and there we can't. I can't reach it

(05:42):
up there and charge my phone. No pads and pens.
I have tons of no pads. They can't. You can't
see where are they there? You go, tons of no
pads and sends of no pad. That's a calendar or planner,

(06:03):
which I have right here. I can't see nothing of
this thing there. I go, how to do it? They
something it's something that you just need to do it,
And I said, back on it. I just did it
a second ago. I don't know. I just okay, whatever
I have it. A desker lamp of mine's off my desk. See,

(06:26):
I got to utilize something that's off my desk. But
it's next to it, water bottle, a coffee cup, which
I always have because I'm always like drinking water, and
now I call it my coffee. Those are a couple
of things you could be. I said I need. I'm
always stapling, so I need a stapler I have. I

(06:49):
have honey on my desk is because I drink tea
and stuff every day. Tissues right here, so they're right here.
But I have things off my desk to you, off
to the side that I can get you too if
I need it. But all my desk, that's all I have.
I'm gonna be able to write. They're like they're all
things should be on your desk, unused off supplies. I

(07:11):
have drawers right next in reach that have like all
my all my stamps, papers for the printer, paper clips,
all that stuff. It's off to the side. I mean,
I believe in these little story I get these sterilight,
these sterilite drawers seven. You know, they're wonderful. Obviously, all

(07:32):
food containers, all bottles, I throw that shit away, recycle
whatever you get off your desk, clothes, your purse. My
little thing sits off to the side. We don't have
it on there. We don't know it on there, things
like that, you know, you know what all that shoot
on your desk. But I said, if you can, if

(07:52):
you can, have something nearby. And they also they also
have organizing things too, a little organizing things you can
put on your desk if you can go into corners somewhere.
But has like push pins and paper clips and binder
clips and things like that if you use them a lot.
I use them a lot, so but I have them
off to the side. I like a little drawer, like

(08:13):
I would train a drawer that holds all that, so
least it all my desk. It's perfect. I don't have
all the room my death. You have all that ship
in here there something there. Yeah, I have to. I
have to have stuff off to the side. It's just

(08:33):
too much. Coach else, I gotta tell you there wrote
some notes. So I was kind of like, I want
to tell you guys, Jesus, real life folks. You know,

(08:55):
some people will come on. We will do these shows
and try to be very you know, just like things
planned out and they're just talking to you like these
everything just everything's perfect. Being organized is not perfect. It's
not perfection. Those just thing it's perfection. I really say
that word the hardy. Ever hear me say that word
on the show. It's not h It does take work.

(09:15):
And let's be realistic. There are times when where you
have a desk, you put stuff on the desk and
you got so you got to take care someone over
here or kids calling you over here, or mother is
over here. You're busy take care of stuff, and you
leave it and you say, oh, I've got to put
on there. The thing about what I'm trying to tell
you is that's okay. Be aware of that. Maybe every

(09:39):
couple of days, clear it off, work on what you
have to work on, clear it off, and get off
your desk. Like try to decide, say like ten things
you want on your desk, and if anything more than
ten things, get them off. There are certain certain rules
that you organize. Just go by the one minute rule.

(10:01):
It takes it takes less than a minute something away,
you know, then do it now or spend like five
minutes at the end of the day and tidy up,
make sure he's neat and clean, which I try to
do too. Actually, sorry, excuse me, I just had some
make my desk strength. Okay, but they do like tidy

(10:24):
go okay. And then of each day, last one before
you leave your desk, last five minutes are for cleanup
or once we every Friday you do a do you
do a deep dive and clean it all up to
that Monday. You're great. But now some of us work
from home and work every day. It could be a
different kind of schedule. Every Saturday you do it, or
you know, you do it on Monday night or whatever.

(10:45):
Just they say things like that you should do, you know,
And the one thing is, it's just the thing that
the major thing is is your desk working for you.
I did a show during a pandemic about that because,
as a lot of folks found out during the pandemic,
because they work somewhere else, their home desk or home

(11:05):
office was not really set up correctly. So that to
me is something that I'm always like, hmm, but it
starts with a desk. I'm sorry, I had to go
away a second. It starts with a desk, it does.
It really does. Starts with a desk. So the desk
is the nucleus of everything in your office. It really is.
It's very important to have it organized so you can
see stuff and you can take care of business because

(11:27):
also having clutter, you may forget a bill, you may
forget a contract, you may forget something, and you don't
want to do that. Follow me at a lot of
