Speaker 1 (00:14):
Welcome to the Sunday Word on Wednesday evening. It is
the eve of Thanksgiving, and what I'm going to attempt
to dive into is the importance.

Speaker 2 (00:34):
Of Thanksgiving. The importance of Thanksgiving. Normally, I would start
out by giving you a lot of scriptures or a
couple of passages scriptures, but we're just gonna pretty much
go through this and have a few scattering scriptures along
the way before I gets thrited. I wanna say I

(01:00):
wish each and everyone you are happy Thanksgiving. Uh. I
also want to say I'm sending prayers out to my
radio buddy. We wed kg is sold together. As a
matter of fact, we went to school together at Hutcheson
Community College. I want you to keep the name of

(01:23):
Scott Styles lifted up in prayer as he is dealing
with the loss of his father, first time being without
his father for Thanksgiving. So we wanna keep Scott Styles
lifted up in prayer that he would regain his spiritual
strength as well as his mental strength. We thank God

(01:49):
for his wife, Shannon, who I know is his rock,
his leaning posts whenever he needs someone to lean on.
And the reason I can say is because I have
seen them, and I have even told him that the

(02:10):
marriage to him and his wife has is one I
wouldn't mind looking up to. Yes, my parents left the legacy,
and there has been other parent figures who have left
legacies too, but these two are living amongst us, and
I told him I admire him and Shannon's marriage to

(02:36):
each other and they are truly in inspiration. But right now,
we wanna keep Shannon and Scott lifted up in prayer
as they deal with getting through the season. And I
pray that in due time that they will be able
to look back up on the life of their dad

(02:58):
and be able to have those moments because I've been
in that situation, which is why come you are it
Behoo should be thankful for every moment that you spend
with your parents. And I know what I said I
was going to talk about, but I just had to
start out like that because it was on my mind.
And I want you to know, Scott, we got you

(03:20):
in prayer. So I hope that this will be a
blessing to you as you listen to this podcast as
well too. But we're talking about the looking at a
breakdown of the importance of Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving is a vital
spiritual discipline, emphasize throughout the scripture. Its importance is rooted

(03:46):
in God's nature, his blessings, and the call to cultivate
gratitude in all circumstances. So let's take a look at
the breakdown of Thanksgiving. First of all, we need to
realize that Thanksgiving as looking at Thanksgiving as worship. Thanksgiving

(04:10):
is a form of worship that acknowledges God's sovereignty and
his goodness. Psalms one hundred and four says like this,
enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise,

(04:33):
Give thanks to him and praise his name. This verse
demonstrates that thanksgiving is central to approaching God, symbolizing humanity
and reverence. Kind of like when we were growing up
as kids. You didn't look an adult eye diye like

(04:58):
you were man to man mono. I don't know. You
came in with your head down in humility before an
adult and you gave them that respect. And that's what
this verse right here is saying. That's what the breakdown
of this what it demonstrates that Thanksgiving it's central to

(05:20):
approaching God, symbolizing humility and reverence. Thanksgiving as obedience. Scripture
commands thanksgiving as an expression of our relationship with God.
First that Salonians five and eighteen reads thus, to give

(05:42):
thanks in all circumstances, not just when you're on the
up and up, but also when you're down. It says,
give thanks in all circumstances. Now, if I had to
come up with the definition for the word all, it

(06:04):
would go like this. It means all, not just what
we think we wanna give 'em thanksful, but it says
in all circumstances, good, bad, up and down, side to side,
in all circumstances. For this is God's will for you

(06:26):
in Christ Jesus. This verse here highlights that gratitude is
not situational see I'd already discussed that, but a constant
posture of the believer. Thanksgiving as a reminder of God's

(06:49):
provision given thinks helps us reflect on God's provisions and blessings.
Philippians four Versus six and seven says like this, do
not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by
prayer and petition, but thanksgiving present your request to God.

(07:16):
This encourages a thankful heart even in trials, fostering trust
in God's faithfulness. So, in other words, don't be so
quick to be worried about tomorrow. Tomorrow's going to if
we live to see tomorrow, or if we don't, tomorrow

(07:39):
is still going to take care of itself. We need
to be worried about the present. Thanksgiving as a testimony gratitude,
declares God's goodness to others, becoming a testimony of his work.

(08:04):
Psalms when those seven verses one or two reads, thus
to give thanks to the Lord, for he is good.
His love endures forever. Let the redeem of the Lord
tell their story. Thanksgiving magnifies God's character and invites others
to know him. But can I ask a question, how
can we draw others and they can't hear our testimony?

(08:30):
Last I checked, when you are given a testimony, or
that just say evening in court of law, when you
were sworn to testify, you have to be heard. To
testify of the goodness of God means you also have

(08:51):
to open your mouth and express how God is, how
good God has been to you verbally. So this here
dispels that I'm a silent worshiper. It dispels that I
praise God silently. You you can't possibly do that according

(09:16):
to what we just read. Let me read that Psalms
on those seven verses one or two again, give thanks
to the Lord, for he is good, his love and
doors forever. Let the redeem of the Lord tell their story.
How can you tell your story without opening your mouth?

(09:39):
The Psalm, as David said, it best like this, I
will bless the Lord at all times, and his praises
shall continually be in my mouth. W I'm going to do.

(10:01):
I'm going to take a break right here, and when
I come back, we will dive farther deeper into the
importance of Thanksgiving on a Thanksgiving Eve here on the

(10:22):
Sunday Word Wednesday edition. Welcome back to the Sunday Word,

(11:06):
the Wednesday edition, the Thanksgiving Eve edition. However you want
to look at it, I pray that you are having
a wonderful evening. Many youth probably don't have to go
to work tomorrow, so you're probably standing up burning the
midnight all slaving over the stove to make sure dinner

(11:28):
is ready tomorrow. Whatever you're gonna do, make sure you
take out time to say thank you. That's what we're
talking about Thanksgiving. So just to recap what we have
discussed as far as the importance of Thanksgiving. First we

(11:52):
looked at Thanksgiving as worship relating scripture Psalms one hundred
and four. Next we looked at Thanksgiving and as obedienced
the related scriptures, first Thessalonians five and eighteen. Then Thanksgiving
as a reminder of God's provisions for Olympians four, verses

(12:15):
six and seven, Thanksgiving as a testimony Psalms when those
seven verses one and two, which now leads into the
analysis of thanksgiving as we look at a historical context,
Thanksgiving was a communal act in Israel's worship practice, often

(12:36):
too often tied to offerings. In the Vesicus seven and twelve.
If they offer it as an expression of thankfulness, then
alone with this thank offering they are to offer thick
clothes made with yeast. This highlights how Thanksgiving was integrated

(12:58):
into formal worship through sacrifices, showing a tangible response to
God's blessings. Now we will look take a look from
a theological context. Theologically, thanksgiving reflects God's grace and the
believer's dependence on him. James one of seventeen says it

(13:23):
like this, every good and perfect gift is from above,
coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights. This
verse points to thanksgiving as recognition of God's ultimate authority
and provision the Christ. The logical connection Jesus modeled thanksgiving

(13:47):
especially during the significant moments like the Last Supper, and
looked between twenty nine and he took bread, gave thanks
and broke it to them, saying, this is my body
given for you do this in remembrance of me. Here,

(14:07):
thanksgiving connects to the redemptive work of Christ, underscoring gratitude
in the context of salvation. The practical implications for believers,
Thanksgiving transforms the believers attitude, fostering peace and contentment. Colossians

(14:33):
three fifteen seventeen says it like this, Let the peace
of Christ ruling your hearts, since as members of one
body you were called to peace and be thankful. And
whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it
all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks

(14:54):
to God the Father through him. This passage emphasizes a
lifestyle of thanksgiving as evidence of Christ's rule in our hearts.
So now as we get ready to bring this to
a close, Thanksgiving is both a response to God's goodness

(15:18):
and an act of worship that deepens the believer's relationship
with him. By practicing gratitude in all circumstances, believers are
n't a God, demonstrate faith and witness his grace to others.
Theologically and practically, thanksgiving aligns the heart with God's purposes

(15:43):
and provides peace that surpasses understanding. And with that, I
hope now you will understand the importance of thanksgiving. Yes,
I know the homes that are doing the cooking is

(16:03):
gonna be filled with their rumor of turkey and dressing
and whatever else you decide to have with those dishes.
But in all things give thanks to those who are
dealing with the loss with loved ones. We pray for

(16:24):
you as a matter of fact, where come to you,
Lord God, with bowed head, humble heart, to say thank
you for all that you have done, thank you for
all that you are doing right now, and thank you
for all that you are going to do. Lord God.

(16:47):
Right now, we lift your name up this Thanksgiving seasons
to the family of Scott Styles as they are dealing
with the loss of their love. Lord God, will as
that you continue to strengthen and whether we build him up,
whether they're torn down, prop them up on every leading post.
Give them the strength to make it through this difficult time.

(17:13):
We asted in due time. You lift up a bow
down heads and try those tear stained eyes. Bring this
family so close together that one can't fall without the other.
Lord God, it is the Styles family today. We don't
know who will be up on tomorrow, so we want

(17:33):
to take the time to say, since we are standing
up right, we thank you for the present right now.
Lord God, continue to strengthen this podcast ministry that it
will be a blessing to those who hear it. These
are other blessings. Were asking Jesus' name and it is
for his sake, and those you are out there listening

(17:54):
can be in agreement agreement with me and say amen,
Amen Scott Styles. I want to say we're continuing to
keep you and your family in prayer as you deal
with these difficult times. Well until the next time. I
want to say thank you for listening to this podcast.

(18:17):
As I always say, if it has been a blessing
to you, go ahead and share it with others. I'm
for ever reminder of my cousin Melvin Smith, who says
that these podcasts have been a blessing to him, so
it behooves me to continue to send them out. I
know I'll be slacking sometimes, but I pray that the

(18:40):
times that I do get in here, that you will
find these podcasts and blessings. As my sister in Christ,
Kamla Anderson will say, be blessed, be a blessing. I
will talk to you again, so at
