Speaker 1 (00:15):
Welcome to the Sunday Word on a Monday, and this
is the second day of June, and we are bringing
this to you on a Monday because we were tied
up over the weekend. We celebrated the life that was

(00:36):
my cousin in Oklahoma City.

Speaker 2 (00:38):
Paula London laid her to rest.

Speaker 1 (00:43):
A life well lived and a flower plucked from the garden.

Speaker 2 (00:52):
Then after the service.

Speaker 1 (00:55):
In Oklahoma City, we were able to enjoy family time
and dinner. From there we journeyed and ventured into Tulsa, Oklahoma,
where we were treated rawly. Wanna send uh special thanks
to brother Joey and sister Lydia Crutcher. I was so

(01:16):
used to seeing gains for so many years, but it
is the Crutcher family. Some of you listening may know
who Joey Crutcher is. They got the Crutcher Foundation. But
we were treated rawly at New Heights Christian Center, pasted
by Terry Shannon. We want to say thank you for

(01:40):
them opening up their doors and opening up their arms
and welcoming me and my family as we ministered with
a few words, and also in so we were well
taken care of. I will say that much. Uh It
was a blessing and like I said, the occasion that

(02:02):
we went down for initially a somber moment, but at
the same time got to enjoy family and the life
that we celebrated my cousin Paula Lundon.

Speaker 2 (02:12):
We know it. It was a life well spent.

Speaker 1 (02:15):
She had some physical and mental challenges, but she always
served God. That's the consolation that we haven't known that
she lived a life pleasing to God.

Speaker 2 (02:29):
And if there's someone I.

Speaker 1 (02:30):
Believe made it in the heaven, I believe she's one
that made it because she stood firm.

Speaker 2 (02:37):
In her faith and.

Speaker 1 (02:40):
Always had a word from God to share with others.
So she would be missed. But God does not make
any mistakes. That been said, we want to bring your
attention to Psalms thirty four or another one of my

(03:01):
favorite in case I haven't figured out, I liked the
Book of Sms. I like the Bible period, but I
definitely like the Book of Psalms. Uh the program where
it was at yesterday morning that New Heights Christian Church.

Speaker 2 (03:14):
I also wanna say thank you to my cousin. Uh.

Speaker 1 (03:17):
David Keys will accompany me on the piano.

Speaker 2 (03:20):
I'm i'm'na tell you that that that that.

Speaker 1 (03:22):
Young man, My goodness, I I've heard him say I
to this day, cause I remember we were in Kansas City.
We didn't have no instruments or anything except for a saxophone.
But to this day, my cousin I called him my
brother David Keys. He's the only man that had sung
us on that brought tears to my eyes when we
was in Kansasity at a family reunion and he sung

(03:44):
a solo and I'm over there, got tears.

Speaker 2 (03:46):
In my eye. That young man's son. I won't complain.

Speaker 1 (03:50):
And he sung it as if it was gonna be
his last time saying it. And that's what you should
do when God has given you a gift.

Speaker 2 (03:58):
When you do it and you you.

Speaker 1 (04:01):
Exercise your gift for God, you should do it like
it's your last time. I mean, I believe he sung
that song until heaven got the news it was satisfied.
But I wanna say, thinking to him. I was also
able to go by their church after we got to it.
New Heights Christian Center, UH went by the name of
the church was a New Testament Pentecostal church up when

(04:27):
we got there. Up speaking was Bishop Norman Hutchins, I would.
Now I want you to let that resonate because I
know some of y'all are used to seeing Bishop Norman
Hutchins on grand stages. I'm gonna say this, and I'm
gonna get on with my mess and a plan, which

(04:50):
the Psalms thirty four and one. If you're got your
Bible open, then we're gonna be coming out the Psalm
thirty four and one. But Norman Hutchins, I can say
that I am thoroughly impressed with Norman Hutchings.

Speaker 2 (05:04):
Some of y'all are like, well, who is Norman Hutchings.
He's the one that got then God's got a blessing
with your name on it.

Speaker 1 (05:11):
Had a very profound word. But I'm not going to
even try to rehash what he said. I want you
to picture the venue.

Speaker 2 (05:20):
Of where he was at when we got to the church.

Speaker 1 (05:28):
I'm looking for a certain type of church, but when
I got there, and I want you to picture this.
I want y'all to get the humility side of this.
I want you to get decide that it doesn't matter
what your status is, there should be there shouldn't be

(05:53):
any place that you can't go.

Speaker 2 (05:57):
I didn't get to make the concert Saturday.

Speaker 1 (05:59):
Night because we got to talk a little bit later
and got to visiting with our the people that was
hosting us, So we didn't get to make the book
signing in the concert that night.

Speaker 2 (06:09):
But Sunday we went to hear him preach.

Speaker 1 (06:13):
And I'm just going to put to you this way,
those of you who are what are tall to know
where me and my wife stay.

Speaker 2 (06:23):
The church itself, if you include.

Speaker 1 (06:30):
Our garage and our utility room and the house itself,
the church was probably about that size. And you have
to be able to picture the house that me and
my wife stay in to picture this church. But there

(06:54):
is Bishop normOn Hutchins, not at some mega church, but
at a church of a smaller venue, preaching a prophetic
word as if he's preaching in a big arena.

Speaker 2 (07:17):
Let that resonate.

Speaker 1 (07:20):
And I'm gon to say something that I might get
in trouble for saying, but I'm going to say it
because to me it's the truth. Anyhow, this young man
did not promise if you give this the blessings of
God is gonna fall on you.

Speaker 2 (07:38):
He didn't instruct the ushers to lock the doors because
we need to raise as much money. He just preach
God's word.

Speaker 1 (07:49):
In a venue that you would think, why would somewhat
of his status come here? And I'm not knocking the church.
It just goes to show no matter how big you get,
there shouldn't be no place you can't go. That's why

(08:10):
I'm getting with this. When I got there, I seen
some distinct musicians of God, prophets of God, and even them,

(08:33):
as good as they are, gifted as they are, they're.

Speaker 2 (08:37):
Not beyond going to certain places. That's what I like
about them.

Speaker 1 (08:46):
Some people they get so high minded and so heavenly
minded that they are no earthly good. I wanna give
a shout out to Cardero Bucker. He has a show
on uh YouTube, I do believe, and also on the radio.
So uh, I don't have all that information right.

Speaker 2 (09:07):
Here before me, but he does tag me. He's he's
another gifted young man.

Speaker 3 (09:12):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (09:13):
I know for a fact there's probably not a place
that he wouldn't go to minister God's word and also
lend his musical gifts. UH.

Speaker 2 (09:21):
My cousin David Keys the the these names I mentioning.

Speaker 1 (09:27):
When you look up the diction look up the definition
of the word humble and humility in the dictionary you
will see brother Booker and brother David Keys, and they
mentioned they're just common people. As much as you try
to prop them up, they keep their head level and

(09:50):
their feet on the ground. So I want to say
thank you to those two brothers because I had the
chance to see them at the other church FILD.

Speaker 2 (09:58):
So this is for them right there. Now let's get
into our word for the day.

Speaker 1 (10:14):
I had all those preliminaries, y'all probably saying, yeah, you're
definitely a Baptist preacher because y'all had them long winded preliminaries.
But now some things just had to have been said.
I need to get that out there because I want
y'all to understand the humility, the humbleness of such one
Bishop Norman Hutchins and these other names.

Speaker 2 (10:35):
That I mentioned. So that's what I wanna get at
because even me being a musician, I've been around some
musicians that, uh, if you're not.

Speaker 1 (10:46):
Part of their status quo, part of their clique, they
just kind of looked at you like, uh, you just
somebody beneath us.

Speaker 2 (10:53):
And that's why I come.

Speaker 1 (10:54):
I want to emphasize that these names I mentioned, they
do not appear to look at you as if you
are beneath them, but they look at you as an equal.
So that's where I was getting at with that. Okay,
a lot to impact that now, if you have your
Bibles and you're.

Speaker 2 (11:11):
Ready for me.

Speaker 1 (11:13):
Psalms thirty four and one, very familiar passage says, I
will bless the Lord at all times. And that's what
we're actually gonna talk about. And the scripture is, I
will bless the Lord at all times. His praise shall
continually be in my mouth. Now today we dove into
a powerful declaration of unwavering devotion and praise Psalms thirty

(11:33):
four and one. The psalm As David proclaims a resolute
commitment says I will bless the Lord at all times.
This is not merely a fleeting sentiment, but a lifestyle
of continual praise, regardless of circumstances.

Speaker 2 (11:54):
Let me put a pain right there.

Speaker 1 (11:55):
Because oftentimes, and we hear people say, you don't have
to wait till the battle is over to shout now,
because you.

Speaker 2 (12:04):
Know in the end you're gonna win. However, we say that,
the question is do we do that. We're gonna let
that center there for a minute. What we say and
what we do are two different things. Why one because.

Speaker 1 (12:30):
The spirit does grow with men at all times, and
we're still housed in a fleshly body, and the flesh
and the spirit do not always cooperate. Or let me
put it this way, the carnal mind and the spirit
mind do not always cooperate. So in the world felt

(12:55):
with challenges, uncertainties, and trials, the call to bless the
Lord at all the.

Speaker 2 (12:59):
Time is both inspiring and challenging.

Speaker 1 (13:03):
It beckons us to develop a heart of unwavering gratitude
and worship rooted in our relationship with God.

Speaker 2 (13:12):
That keyword is rooted. It has to be rooted, not
just rooted. I want to say deeply rooted. Anyone that's
been to You.

Speaker 1 (13:22):
Could say California. You can even say Florida. I want
to use Florida for an instance, because you ever notice
when they show Florida when they're getting hit with hurricanes
and high winds, winds that can just literally pick up
a car and move it like a tornado. You ever

(13:43):
noticed the palm trees.

Speaker 3 (13:47):
They sway back and forth, back and forth, but seems
like they never bend or break, or they never get uprooted.

Speaker 1 (14:01):
That's because they are deeply rooted. That's how our relationship
with God has to be. It has to be like
those palm trees, deeply rooted.

Speaker 2 (14:14):
Just like a tree, planet bottlewater. I shall not be
removed from this relationship that I have with God. So
first of all, we wanna look at.

Speaker 1 (14:24):
The commitment to bless the Lord continually. David's declaration is
a conscious choice.

Speaker 2 (14:33):
I will bless.

Speaker 1 (14:35):
A declar a decision to praise regardless of circumstances. It
reflects a heart that recognizes God's goodness, sovereignty, and his faithfulness.
Look at first Thessalonians five and eighteen. It says, in everything,
give thanks, for this is the world of God, in
Christ Jesus for you. First Chronicle sixteen to thirty. For

(15:00):
it says, old, give thanks to the Lord for he
is good. For his mercy endures forever, which means just
what it means, forever. It does not stop its ongoing,
just as our praise should be continually. In other words,
we are called to make a deliberate choice to bless

(15:23):
the Lord at all times. Praise should not be contingent
on how we feel. But here that word is rooted.

Speaker 2 (15:33):
In who God is.

Speaker 1 (15:39):
Then we move on and says the continuity of praise.
David emphasizes that praise should be continually in my mouth.
In other words, worship is not a seasonal or occasional act,
but a perpetual attitude. First to Salonians five Versus sixteenth

(16:06):
eighteen says, rejoice always, pray without a sea's scene.

Speaker 2 (16:12):
In everything, give thanks in everything. Mm me and my
wife we could be at eye hop or at a breakfast.

Speaker 1 (16:32):
And we was in Oklahoma and Tulsa over the weekend
and we stayed at the Comfort Inn. And my wife
she is ever so conscious and I am too. But
when we sit down at breakfast, did you bless the
table yet? Before I can even get to close my

(16:57):
eyes to bow my head, say Lord, God, we thank
you for this fool we're about.

Speaker 2 (17:03):
Did you bless the table yet? In everything? Give thanks?

Speaker 1 (17:11):
Before you take that bite of that sausage, that bacon,
them scrambled eggs, whatever it is, Give things in everything,
everything I like to like in it is like all,
and there is nothing outside of all. So once again,
first That'salonias, Rejoice always. In other words, when you wake

(17:33):
up in the morning, you should wake up with a
rejoice with a praise because somebody didn't wake up. If
you have the activities of your limbs, it's another reason
to give God some praise because somebody woke up and
they were paraplegic.

Speaker 2 (17:54):
And everything. Give thanks.

Speaker 1 (17:59):
I like this said like this, The very thing that
we can complain, that we complain about are some of
the very same things that we can give things about.
Some people in this world can't even feel nothing, and

(18:20):
we complained about the smallest of aches and pains, but
yet we can still move around. I'm pretty sure, and
I know this may sound crazy. Somebody would probably love
to feel the pain that we go through that we well,
let me say it this way, the pain that we
complain about, yet that doesn't really affect us in our movement.

(18:43):
Imagine that person that has no feeling, no circulation, can't move.
I imagine they would love to trade places with us
and would be just as happy as a lark in.

Speaker 2 (18:55):
A tree as we look at this.

Speaker 1 (19:02):
The continuity of praise Psalms one thirteen three says from
the rising of the sun to its setting, the name
of the Lord is to be praised. In other words,
when you wake up, praise him in the middle of
the day, praise him. In the late evening, praise him.
Going to bed, praise him, praise him, praise him, praise him, Praise.

Speaker 2 (19:26):
Him, Jesus, Blessed Savior. He's worthy to be praised. In
other words, our lives should be characterized by.

Speaker 1 (19:36):
Ongoing praise through our words, our actions, and our attitudes.
But if I could just change it around, I would
say by our actions, our attitude.

Speaker 2 (19:52):
And our words.

Speaker 1 (19:59):
What I'm going to right here, since we have approached
a twenty minute mark, I'm going to take a break,
and when I.

Speaker 2 (20:09):
Come back, we're going to conclude this.

Speaker 1 (20:16):
We're going to look into reasons to bless the Lord,
the power of praising God in all circumstances, and the
benefits of continual praise. All that coming up on the
Sunday Word with Minister Anthony Smith. I won't you go nowhere.

(20:39):
It's a Sunday Word on a Monday with Minister Anthony Smith.

(21:21):
Welcome back to the Sunday Word with Minister Anthony Smith
on a Monday. It is June the second. I'm grateful
to have had safe travels to and from the great
state of Oklahoma.

Speaker 2 (21:37):
So we are doing our duty to give you the
Sunday word on a Monday. And today we are talking
about continual praise.

Speaker 1 (21:59):
That's right, you will praise coming out of Psalms thirty
four and one. And in that first segment, after we
got through it all the preliminaries, we talked about the
commitment to bless the Lord continually and the continuity of praise,

(22:20):
which now leads us to our next point. Reasons to
bless the Lord? Why should we bless the Lord at
all times?

Speaker 2 (22:36):
Why?

Speaker 1 (22:36):
Why couldn't we bless him sometimes? Why couldn't we bless
him when he blesses us? Why come we couldn't bless
him when we get the promotion on the job, when we.

Speaker 2 (22:54):
Get the raise.

Speaker 1 (22:58):
Well, because of his attributes indeeds, First of all, his
goodness Psalms thirty four. And it reminds us to taste
and see that the Lord is good. That's one reason
to bless him at all times. Because of his mercy

(23:20):
and compassion. His mercy endures forever Psalms One thirty six.
So another reason to bless him at all times. His faithfulness.
The one thing we can say about God is he
is faithful at all times and at all times. God

(23:40):
is faithful. The question, though, is can he say the
same about us? Are we faithful in our words? Are
we faithful in our actions? Are we faithful in our deeds?
Are we faithful in our attitudes? Yet He allows us

(24:02):
to keep getting up day after day, going to bed
night after night, wakes us up the next morning, and
some of us struggle just to even say.

Speaker 2 (24:12):
Thank you his faithfulness. Great is his faithfulness, Lamitations three
and twenty three.

Speaker 1 (24:28):
His salvation. I will bless the Lord at all times.
His praise shall continually be in my mouth. So I'm
thirty four and one. Lamitations three twenty three says like this,
Through the Lord's mercies, we are not consumed. In other words,
we're not in golf. We are not swallowed up because

(24:51):
His compassions fail.

Speaker 2 (24:53):
Not they are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness.
In other words, it's refreshing. It's like a nice, cool
drink of water.

Speaker 1 (25:15):
So, in other words, our praise is rooted in recognizing
God's own going goodness and faithfulness in our lives. Once again,
our praise is rooted in recognizing God's owngoing goodness and faithfulness.

Speaker 2 (25:31):
In our lives. Thus, Psalms thirty and four to one.

Speaker 1 (25:35):
I will bless the Lord at all times, and his
praise shall continually be in my mouth. Why because our
praise is rooted in recognizing God's owngoing goodness and faithfulness
in our lives.

Speaker 2 (25:48):
The power of praising God in all circumstances.

Speaker 1 (25:53):
David's life was filled with highs and lows, fleeing from sault,
facing enemy and personal struggles. Don't judge David too harshly,
because some of you listening, including me, we have some struggles.
And if truth be told, that's all I'm saying. If

(26:19):
David had struggles, we have struggles, and this is not
a time for a confession. I don't want to know yours.
So don't you have your intenders up waiting to hear minds.
The Bible said confess your faults one to another. It
said confess your sins to God. So if you think
I'm going to tell you my sins, you ain't God.

(26:41):
That ain't about to happen. Let me get an a
man from somebody. Even though David's life once again was
filled with highs and lows, fled from sault, facing enemies,
personal struggles, yet he chose to bless the continually and

(27:02):
Rebeca three seventeen nineteen. Though the fig tree may not
blossom yet. In other words, I'm not gonna let no
tree determine.

Speaker 2 (27:16):
My joy for God. Though the fig tree may not
blossom yet, I will rejoice in the law. In other words,
that tree can blossom, that treat can fail to blossom.

Speaker 1 (27:29):
It's not gonna stop me from rejoicing. You may be
my friend today and my enemy tomorrow, but I'm gonna
steal bless the Lord, Tewod Corinthius twelve or nine. My
grace is sufficient for you, for my strength is made
perfect in weakness. In other words, I praise should not

(27:51):
depend on external factors, but on internal trust in God's
sovereignty and.

Speaker 2 (27:57):
Sufficiency will never leave us nor forsake us the benefits
of continual praise.

Speaker 1 (28:09):
When we bless the Lord at all times, as we
get ready to come to a close here, our faith
is strengthened. We experience God's presence more intimately. Our prospective
ships from problems to praise. And I like that part

(28:29):
right there, because that lets me know that once our
prospective ships from problems to praise, that means we have
come to the mindset that I'm going to praise God
regardless of what my circumstance and my problem is, because
I know that if he's done it before, hello to somebody,
he can do it, and I just believe he will

(28:51):
do it again. However, if he doesn't, I want you
to get this part because remember remember the hebrew boys.

Speaker 2 (29:01):
Throwing it to the lions den because they would not bow.
They had what I would like to call crazy faith
when they said that we serve a God that even
if he does not.

Speaker 1 (29:21):
Deliver us, they basically said, he's done enough. In other words,
we don't have to try him. We just trust him.
In other words, our prospective shifts from problems to praise.
Then we become witnesses to others, inspiring them to trust God.

Speaker 2 (29:47):
Trust me on this.

Speaker 1 (29:48):
People are watching you, and I know that this is
not biblical, but the only some people are gonna read
is your life. That's why you go back and pull
at them old songs with them old warriors sing because,
like I said on a few podcasts backs, you know

(30:12):
these these new songs is okay.

Speaker 2 (30:14):
And I'm not knocking the new praise and worshipers. I'm
not knocking them that if that's what they choose. To
do that. Hey, that's them. I'm not knocking that.

Speaker 1 (30:25):
But it was songs like amazing Grace, how sweet the
sound that got our folks over.

Speaker 2 (30:30):
They were singing songs like Precious Lord, take my hand.

Speaker 1 (30:36):
And we just believed that some of them older warriors
that went on before us, we believe that they actually
made it in Now we don't know that. But uh,
when we look at this, says, we become witnesses to others,

(31:01):
inspiring them to trust God. May the works I've done
speak for me?

Speaker 3 (31:11):
Then?

Speaker 2 (31:13):
Isaiah sixty winy three.

Speaker 1 (31:15):
Says they should be called trees of righteousness that He
may be glorified. And Acts sixteen twenty five says Paul
and Silas praising God in prison led to their release.

Speaker 2 (31:27):
In other words, your praise can lead to your release.

Speaker 1 (31:34):
I wanted to share this because I had a situation
back in my life, in my earlier years of life,
and it's one of those situations. If my dad was
here to tell you, he went to bat for me,
because you know, I wasn't in the wrong. I avoided
some jail time, but I had to spend time in

(31:57):
work release.

Speaker 2 (32:01):
In other words, I had limited freedom.

Speaker 1 (32:03):
I had freedom to go to work and back, and
the Good Lord worked it out to where I had
freedom to go to choir, rehearsals and church. However, when
I first went in, my attitude was lowacy I I

(32:23):
didn't have a palled In Sila's attitude. I had a
how long am I gonna be in this place? When
am I gonna get out of this place? I don't
deserve to be in this place. I could care less
about being in this place. This place sucks. That was
my attitude. My attitude wasn't even though I had some

(32:45):
limited freedom and I i I can s go back
and I can an, I can admit this now. I
even had some Saturday freedom cause the towns we were
supposed to have rehearsal on Saturdays, we didn't have it.

Speaker 2 (32:56):
So I had time to do what I wanted to
do during that timeframe. I can. I can confess that
part now. They can't do nothing to me now.

Speaker 1 (33:05):
But with that being said, I didn't have that paul
In Silas attitude. My attitude wasn't that of praising God. Oh,
once I was at the church, I could praise God,
but my attitude was not praising God. While I was
in work release It wasn't though, until my attitude changed,

(33:26):
because it was a process. It was a process that
I had to go to to get my attitude right
that I eventually got my release, which was ahead of
schedule from the ti of the time I was supposed
to actually be in there. So attitude is everything. Once

(33:51):
my attitude changed and shifted and I became more thankful
even in my circumstances, then I was able to petition
to get an early release.

Speaker 2 (34:08):
And praise the Lord. I'm free. In other words, persistent
praise opens doors.

Speaker 1 (34:17):
For divine intervention and transformation, so as we get ready
to close this up. Psalms thirty forty one is a
clarion call to a lifestyle a unwavering praise no matter

(34:39):
the circumstances, we are encouraged to declare, I will bless
the Lord at all times. Let our mouths be filled
with his praise, continually cultivating a heart of gratitude and worship.
Begin each day with a declaration to bless the Lord

(35:00):
and let your praise be unceasing. As you do, you
will experience the joy, peace, and strength that come from
a heart committed to worshiping God at all times. Heavenly Father,
we thank you for your goodness, your mercy, and faithfulness.

Speaker 2 (35:24):
Help us to bless you at all times.

Speaker 1 (35:26):
Do every circumstance fill our hearts with gratitude, in our
minds with praise.

Speaker 2 (35:32):
May our lives be a continual testimony of your love
and grace. Threaten us to worship you in spirit and

On Purpose with Jay Shetty

I’m Jay Shetty host of On Purpose the worlds #1 Mental Health podcast and I’m so grateful you found us. I started this podcast 5 years ago to invite you into conversations and workshops that are designed to help make you happier, healthier and more healed. I believe that when you (yes you) feel seen, heard and understood you’re able to deal with relationship struggles, work challenges and life’s ups and downs with more ease and grace. I interview experts, celebrities, thought leaders and athletes so that we can grow our mindset, build better habits and uncover a side of them we’ve never seen before. New episodes every Monday and Friday. Your support means the world to me and I don’t take it for granted — click the follow button and leave a review to help us spread the love with On Purpose. I can’t wait for you to listen to your first or 500th episode!
