Speaker 5 (01:39):
Today.
Speaker 1 (01:39):
We're going to look at what to do when you
run on the line. Coming up to john second chapter,
we'll be coming versus month or eleven. In John Chapter two,
Jesus performs his first miracle at a wid It seems
like a strange place to launch men, doesn't not a healing,
(02:03):
not a dramatic sign in the sky, but turning water
into wine fri Start there, because this story isn't just
about why. It's about what God does when we run out,
when we hit the end of ourselves, and how his
(02:25):
presence can bring transformation in the most unexpected moments. Just
dive into the story and talk about what to do
when you run out of wine. First, you have to
recognize the reality Verses one through three. When the wine
(02:45):
was gone, Jesus' mother said to him, they have no
more wine. At this wedding celebration in Cana, everything seems
to be going well until the wine runs out. In
Jewish culture, this wasn't just a catering fell It was
(03:09):
a deep embarrassment, even a social disgrace. But here's the truth.
At some point what you've been relying on will run out.
And let's back up a minute, because it was a
deep embarrassment, and I believe that these Jewish people might
(03:34):
be related to us as the people in that it
was embarrassing to run out of things. You prepare a
meal for a guest of people and you run out
of something. Or maybe there was a time where we
as the people, we took pride in how we looked
(03:57):
before we went out in public. You would have there
going out in public with a pair of dirty old
house shoes on, thinking that that's acceptable. Sometimes back in
the day, when the news report come on and the
crime was committed, one of the things you used to
always say is Lord, I hope it wasn't even if
(04:18):
it didn't have nothing to do with us, I hope
it wouldn't one of us. Or you see that money
with that bag on her head while he in an
airplane and she ain't got nothing to do with you.
But you, ladies, Lord, have mercy. So these people were
embarrassed because they bringing out a wine. Well, once again,
the truth is, at some point what you've been relying
(04:40):
on will run out. The relationship can't carry on your
identity forever. That job can't give you eternal security. That
have it won't sustain your joy. The wine always runs
out eventually, and sometimes God allows it to. So that
(05:04):
will stop depending on the temporary and start seeking that etnel.
So don't be afraid to admit when something has run dry.
Denial de Lay's healing recognition opens the door to restoration.
(05:24):
So what to do when you run out of wine? Well,
bring it to Jesus. Verses three through five covers are
Mary does something wise she takes the problem straight to Jesus.
How many times do we have a problem and we
do any and everything but take it to Jesus unless
(05:47):
it's a last resort. But Mary does something. She takes
the problem to Jesus. She says they have no more wine,
doesn't lecture, she doesn't fanish. She just brings to me,
to the one she knows can do something about it.
(06:09):
When something runs out, bring it to Jesus. It may
not look like he's going to respond the way he
won't or on your timeline, woman, why do you involve me?
My hour has not yet come. Now, when you see that,
(06:30):
you think, how can he talk to his mom that way?
You think about it as a child, you can have
a certain look on your face, and your mama reads
your look like you're reading your mind, and will say,
(06:52):
I dare you to see what's on your mind. We
went to dare, said woman to our mothers. But Jesus said, woman,
why do you involve me? My hour has not yet come?
Which have to understand, Jesus wasn't being disrespectful, respectful. He
(07:15):
was thinking in a way that revealed divine time. He
was saying, this may not be the moment you expected,
but trust me, I've got this, Mary's responds. Mary responds
with powerful faith, and here I want you to get
(07:35):
this part right here. That's just I'm gonna take a break.
Whatever he tells you, do it. That was Mary's response,
do whatever he tells you. On that note, We're gonna
(07:56):
take a break. We will be right back. What to
do when you run out of wine? Welcome back to
my next segment. Here we're dealing with what to do when.
Speaker 2 (08:08):
You run out of wine, what to do when you
run out of wine, what to do when you run
out of joy, what to do when you run out
of finances before the bills run out, what to do
when you run out of joy?
Speaker 1 (08:20):
And Marriag's response in that last segment that we closed
on that last segment was do whatever he tears you.
Just the secret when you're out of options, bring it
to Jesus being obeyed. Whatever he tells you next. Don't
just pray about it. Listen what does God calling you
(08:42):
to do? In response, won't let me help you, you're
finding in verses sixty three, obey the instructions, Jesus said
to the servants, filled the jars with water. So they
filled them to the brim. Now this seems odd. They
needed wine he asked for water. But obedience doesn't always
(09:07):
make sense on the surface. God often asked for something
ordinary before he does something extraordinary. He asked Moses to
stretch out the staff. He asked Peter to cast a net. Again,
he asked his servants to fill jaws with why and
(09:30):
in each case, obedience unlocked the miracle. They filled the
jaws to the brim, not halfway. They didn't cut coins.
They followed the instructures for me, And oftentimes that's where
we get in trouble. We know God is speaking to us,
we know God is telling us what to do, but
(09:50):
we have questions. We want to do things our own way,
not realizing when we did things our only way. That's
what got us in trouble in the first place. This
is why come we had to turn back to God.
As hard as it may sound, do it right the
first time. I believe the old people saying was if
(10:13):
you had time to do it over, you had time
to do it right the first time, or something to that.
Magnetinity even when it feels irreve irreverent or inconvenient. Do
what Jesus tells you. The miracle may be hidden in
(10:35):
your obedience. Then watch him transform what you gave him
versus mine content. The master of the banquet tasted the
water that it then turned into wine. Jesus didn't just
make wine, he made better whine. Every one brings out
(11:01):
the choice wine first, but you'd have saved the best
till last. In other words, let me speak to the
people that ain't so honly right now, those of you
who know what it's like to go into the liquor store.
Let me let me just be real. You know, when
you walk in there, they have certain things that they
(11:21):
have on the shelf that okay, I mean, they don't
want you shoplifting, but you know there are some people
that they master the art of grabbing things. But then
when you also go into the liquor store, when you
look behind the counter, they got some things. That's just
that behind the counter, they got that top shelf stuff.
(11:43):
It ain't that. Let me just be real. They ain't.
It ain't malped up back in the day. It ain't
uh some cores meant there it ain't none of that,
And I know y'all who is talking about this on
a Bible podcast.
Speaker 5 (11:59):
I'm just keep in real. When you go on the
liquor store, they have exactly what's on the floor that
they want out there on the floor. But behind the
counter when you can't come, there's what's called the top shelf.
The best stuff. They keep, the best put away until
(12:20):
you request for the best. There was an old commercial
back in the day that says, we will sell no
wine before it's time. So when Jesus transformed and turned
his water into wine once again, he didn't just make wine.
He made a better wine. Here's the truth. What Jesus
(12:45):
gives is always better. He doesn't just refill your cup,
He upgrades it. He doesn't just restore what you lost,
He redeems it. He doesn't just bring back joy, he
brings fullness of joy. And notice this, The servants who
obeyed got to see the miracle up close. Everyone else
(13:08):
just tasted the results. Those who served solve the transformation.
If you ever want to.
Speaker 1 (13:17):
See God work up close, stay close in service and obedience,
believe his glory. Looking at versus of him. He says,
this is the first of his signs Jesus did at
Cana in Galilee and manifested his glory, and his disciples
believed in him. This moment wasn't just about saving a party.
(13:40):
It was about revealing the power and compassion of the Savior.
When Jesus meets you in your emptiness, it's not just
about fixing your problem. It's about showing you his glory.
He wants to reveal himself to you in the dry places,
in the moments you thought were hopeful, in the spaces
(14:02):
where the wine is run dry. What I'm going to
do right here, I'm gonna take my final breaking I'm
going to come back with the conclusion on the Sunday
Word We Minister Anthony Smith.
