Friday night. Was it a potentialbanana skin league? Were we ever really
worried about losing to Burnley? It'salways a potential banana skin though, isn't
it? And you could see Imean, one thing I would just want
to start off with was that fuckingcommentary team Lee Dixon and the panel that

you could feel Jedi like forces comingfrom that lot, willing there to be
an upset that. That's one thingI would say. I mean their voices
were dripping with malice towards us,weren't they, Oh just a bit?
I mean, why on earth theyget? Could they not have got somebody
equally as banal but just not associatedwith that lockdown the fucking road to co

commentate. Surely there are enough exfootballers out there that they don't need to
use arsenal players. It's it's mad. I mean, it's like that five
of them on the bloody team,aren't they? You know? I mean
I can stomach em right just about, but the rest of them are come

say, years and years ago wasinterviewed on five Live about his career.
There was an extended interview. Ican't remember who it was who it was
by now, but they in partof this program. They had a bit
of a dive. I think hemight have been not long after he retired,
and it came out that before hewent to Woolwich, there was quite
a strong chance that he was goingto come to us because of course,

you know, in those days wehad Lineka and Gascoyne, both of them
continually being rumored to be leaving theclub, and actually obviously they both did,
you know, and actually he wasquite quite positive about the club quite
a few civ he was talking backthen. Wouldn't have mightd have gone to

Spurs at all? Actually, youknow, you know, and even though
you know he spent all them yearsat Woolwich, and then of course,
you know, he ended up playingfor the biggest club in the universe,
West west Ham United, massive,massive, massive club. You know that,
having been tainted by both of thoseorganizations, he still often says reasonably

nice things about Tottenham. I mean, I have got quite a lot of
time for him, right, andto be fair, he did play for
Burnley at one point as well,so you know, you can you know,
if anyone's going to be balanced,I think he will be. But
the rest of them, no,Chu and lead Dixon. Honestly, he
could barely conceal his hope that wewere going to mess it up. I

mean, basically, the overarching themeof his commentary, which I think kind
of bled into the other co commentator, was I thought these were supposed to
be the entertainers. They're a bitdisappointing, aren't they. Yeah, yeah,
I mean you could tell. Youknow, before the game, they

were saying, there's going to begoals galore in this match because Spurs have
scored all these goals and conceded allthese goals in their last games and all
this. You know, when it'sgoals got Friday night television, it's going
to be And a minute all thatcame out, I thought here setting us
up before. Yeah, and yeah, you know, I mean, to
be fair, it would have beendifficult for them to have been particularly effusive

about our play because it was prettydire, wasn't it. But yeah,
that's it. I'll take your point. I think the longer the game went
on, they seem to be gleefullyrubbing their hands together at the prospect that
Burnley were going to nick it.Yeah, and I agree, But I
mean, I wouldn't mind if theywould have viewed some context in the fact

that you know, as we knowas followers of our club, that we
have been playing the same players overand over again, as we said in
previous pods, where they are absolutelyshattered and looking leggie, and they need
this break. They've played more gamesup to now than they've played in previous
seasons and it's showing. And youknow, and and a lot of our

better players I missing, although someof them are starting to come back.
We did have Van Derven on thebench. I thought he might have got
a run out, but you know, he seemed to sort of save him.
And then Benton Cool's captain that wasnice to see. Yeah yeah,
and survived the game intact, whichwas even nice. Yeah yeah, yeah.
There were some moments where you know, he looked like he might he

did that kind of dare I say, Dembele esque type thing where he looks
like he's about to be robbed,then he just rolls the player and comes
away with the ball. You know, he just is the player that seems
to be able to sort of makeit more cohesive and make it tick.
I think without him we might havelost that game. You know, the
way he kind of took charge andyou know, was demanding the ball and

was able to come away in Youknow, you could have five or six
players that are trying to close himdown and he would you would still fancy
him to beat them. And oftenon that night, you know, there
were a few times where that wasall most of the case and he came
away with the ball. It wasit was pretty impressive to see. Yeah,
yeah, yeah, wonderful to seethat. Actually, you know,

like you say, he'd been outfor what two months again, this time
after playing a handful of games,after being out for nine months, you
know, with a pretty serious injury. But actually, you know, I
mean, although Burnley may not bethe best litmus paper against which to test
him, you know, he hedid look like he was on pace and
that it wasn't going to take monthsbecause you know, you know, the

potential is for you know, itcould take him a good month to get
properly Matt sharp. But but hedid look he bossed the middle of that
garup ground, didn't he really?Yeah? Absolutely, I actually it's sort
of slightly digress here, but Ireally like the way that and brought him
in the last game when no onehad a clue, no it k's,
no one you know, seemed tohave a clue. No one lets slip

in the club that he had beentraining fully with them, and then all
of a sudden he turns out,which apparently he's done a couple of times
when he was at Celtic and itgives me a little bit of hope that
Madison might turn up in the manyou game. Well, I mean if
especially if you consider that, youknow, when Madison was pitchside before I

can't remember which match it was beforeChristmas and you know, one of them
smug assholes in a three quarter lengthco asked him Humphreeze or whatever whoever it
was, you know, when areyou coming back? And he said,
oh, you know, actually Ithink it's going to be like this,
and if you remember, and wasinterviewed immediately afterwards him for it. So

no, in this you know thatthey're managing your exposure to players recovery as
a tactic. And even if hedoes or doesn't, I think he's quite
you know, a smart move tokeep everyone on their toes. So nobody
knows for sure, you know,you just you know, you you make
a plan, but then you're notsure if he's going to pull a bit

of a you know, a mindgame on you. I like that it
keeps it keeps the opposition on theirtoe. So yeah, let's let's hope
he does turn up out of theblue. But if he doesn't, I
think you know, I think Ithink we'll be all right. We've got
Van Derven back sort of jumping aheadhere now. But but yeah, and
you know a little bit of abreak now until that game, so hopefully

week, so they've had nine daysclear by the time against Man United.
You know, yeah, let's talkabout some of the other players that have
come back then. I mean,you know, he's been out that long,

he might be considered to be anew signing, even in that sort
of Darren Anderton mold. There's somefeller called Ryan's Ryan's Ryan sitting on yeah
shit shitting ship. Yeah, soyou know he came back. Yeah,

yeah, we had We had afew subs later on which were quite pleasing.
I think he replaced Johnson, whoactually I thought I had to probably.
I mean, I know Poro gotmad at the match because you know,
you can't not give him Man ofthe Match for that wonder strike.
We'll come on to that. Butbut Johnson, I thought throughout was the
most lively. I mean he hadabout three or four really good chances.

One of them. I don't ifyou remember, this was like Son esque,
you know, he sort of hecut in from from the left and
bent it like sun does you know, And it just it had all that
hallmarks of that. I thought hewas going to go in. You know,
the keeper saved it. But Ithought he had the best or the
better of the chances anyway from fromfrom our lot, which isn't saying much,

because they a lot of them lookedlike they couldn't score in a whorehouse,
because you know, and and Richie, Oh my god, you know,
I mean, I know we've we'vetried to support him, but he's
like a dog with a balloon.He's got to do better, isn't he.
He has got to do it better. Yeah, yeah, I mean
yeah, I do remember the Johnsonchance. I was going to say about

him that I think he's beginning togrow into that team and a little bit,
isn't he. I know, certainlythere's been some criticism of him in
some circles of his performances up tothis point. Some of that criticism probably
quite justified considering the sort of expectationand you know that he would come in

and quite literally hit the ground running. He did have a couple of those
opportunities coming cutting in from the lefthand side where they started him. Yeah,
the one where he took it,he cut in and took it on
his right foot to shoot. Thesecond one actually seemed a little bit more
strange because he then tried to threada pass through. I forget who it

was was in the in the boxwith him. It might have been Destiny,
I can't remember. I have beenYeah, I think so. Actually
it would have been easier to havetaken the shot on at that point,
yeah, because I think the rightwas Destiny. Yeah, yeah, so
so Yeah, I mean I thinkhe was a little bit more effective once
he switched to the right in thesecond half. But I think he seems

to be growing, you know,whether that's a confidence issue, whether it's
a fitness issue, whether it's youknow, obviously a lot's been said at
the moment about how hard adapting toAngie's philosophy and tactics and approaches on players
physicality in terms of picking up injuries, but possibly there is also some you

know, some sort of upward curveof general underlying fitness that needs to be
achieved as well, and perhaps whatwe're seeing with Johnson now is that he
is more more able to cope withthat kind of intensity for a longer period.
Yeah, And overall, I thought, you know, it was a
poor first half, and we didfeel very disjointed. It felt immediately apparent

that we didn't have so and wedidn't have song and and and I think
it took at least that first halffor us to kind of sort of settle
to any kind of routine. AndI don't know whether whether Ange went in
at half time and gave them arocket or not, or just gave them
clearer instructions, but they did comeout stronger in the second half. I
thought, did you Yeah, Ithink so, And I mean I think,

you know, the fact that itwas still tied later in the game
played into our hands in that respect, because because actually what happened was Burnley
grew in intensity and intent and sothat obviously has knock on effect that it
allows us a little bit more space. Now. There was a lot of
criticism in the commentary about Spurs inthe final third and actually we were taking

(12:43):
too many touches, we weren't possiblybeing directed of not being being quite so
forceful and quick, quick thinking atour feet as we are. That's possibly
a consequence in sun But you know, for the most part, particularly in
the first half. You know,you say, every time you see us

(13:03):
progress the ball into the final third, there are nine Burnley shirts in around
that eighteen yard box. Yeah,really effective. Yeah, So what happened
in that second half is they theystarted to push a little bit. I
guess they were thinking, well wecan and the moment they started to apply
that pressure, we found more spaceto exploit. You know that it said

the goal itself, beautiful goal,wonderfully well taken their goal kit turner,
is it. Yeah, I meanthat that was the second or third time
in the space of about ten minutesthat he just gifted us the ball on
the edge of the well. Imean, ironically it was. It was
Richie's sort of profligation. Profligacy isthat that's the right word. And never

put the teeth in That basically allowedit as well, wasn't it, because
he just basically stepped on the balland made a complete balls of it and
they keep picked it up through itout to their defender. Poro robbed a
defender and then just cut in andthought I'll have some of this might as
well. And because like you weresaying, rich you know that that they
were sitting in a low block fora lot of that game, which we

didn't expect because they played quite usuallyplayed quite expansive football, haven't they,
you know, So they played reallydefensively hoping to get us on the counter.
I think, you know, alot of teams have done that against
us, and we did really findit hard, especially with the sort of
dearth in quality up front, missingSon and missing Sar. So I think

Poro just thought, right, I'mgoing to have a go at this,
and you know it's it. Tenmore times nine of them don't go in,
you know. But that was still, you know, fantastic technique,
lovely, lovely shot. So ironicallyRichie's mess up led to us getting that
wonder goal. Anyway, I justfelt that in the second half when so

I think two things happened. Ithink you're right. I think they they
started to think believe even more andstarted to come out a bit more because
we I think they frustrated the bloodylife out of us. And when they
I think, because there was apoint I'm thinking they're gonna they're gonna pinch
this was I think it was Andoniaand a couple of times nearly all should
have scored. And then I think, like, as you say, we

took advantage that scoring that goal meantthey had to come at us. And
I think we then started to showa bit more about what we're about,
and we came on a lot strongerafter I thought Hill coming on, I
thought he pressed, well, nicelittle cameos from Scarlett and Donnelly. You
know, in the end, Ithought we managed the game without looking,

you know, anywhere near our best. Yeah, yeah, And you know,
I think if we're going to bemagnanimous about it as well, we
ought to say actually the fact thatwe came away with the victory was as
much to do with their profligacy infront goal. Again, I need to
borrow Chief to say that, youknow, yeah, because you know,

I mean right at the end therethey're keep her heads down the corner and
and it's, you know, toto coin a phrase, Harry Redknapp's dog
should have stuck that away or hiswife or whoever the fuck it was the
same. Aren't they mate? Youknow, I mean, how they've managed,

how they've missed that you know,because it comes that he nods it
down, he nods it down,and you know, I guess it was
a yard behind the guy, butlooked easier to hit the target than go
over the bar. He did,didn't it. It really did not quite
not quite Ronnie Rosentile, but butbut a bad mess. And and again,
you know, I think it wouldhave been probably a fair result.

They have got a drawer and we'dhave had to have gone up there for
a replay. Yeah, yeah,yeah, I think, you know,
I think you're right. It could. It could. I mean there were
times where I thought this is goingto go tits up and we're going to
lose this. It just had thatsort of vibe about it. Need to
pull one out the bag like thatwas was you know, it was an
unusual and it did have, yeah, you know, hallmarks of an upset

about it. We looked a littlebit devoid of ideas at times, even
though we did you know, wedid throw the kitchen sink. We had
the most possession, we did pressthe most, but it was all going
a bit too narrow, I felt, and that led it, you know,
that helped them out because they justsat in that load block and then
anytime we tried to overplay it,which we were trying to do and walk

it through that defense to try andscore a goal, we were getting nowhere.
So it's no surprise a wonder goallike that. I mean, it
could have easily been a replay oror or you know, or if a
DOONI had to put that one away. A shock loss. But thank god.
You know, now we're going tostart getting some players back, hopefully,
and you know the next rounds willbe a lot lot better. Yeah,

well, this is this sort ofquiet the winter break coming up now,
isn't it. You know, we'vegot We've got the Man United next
Sunday. Then there's the fourth roundobviously, you know, as we're recording,
they've not made the draw yet.And then and then after the fourth
round draw Wednesday, I think it'sthe thirty first, isn't it? The

end of the month. Right atthe end of the month, we've got
Brentford at home. So by thetime we play Brentford, you know,
hopefully we should have start getting obviouslythat you know that the Afcon players and
Sunny probably you know we're not goingto have got any of them back by

But we should be looking at seeingplayers like Madison, like you say,
Mickey Van der VENs bade the benchwe looked to. We think that he
will probably start against United and andof course by the thirty first January,
we're going to have broken transfer recordtwo or three times, are we not.

country a number of times. HeI think if Ange wants him, that's

mean, it may or may notwork out, but I would say that
the player himself probably wants to provepeople wrong. He's by the way,

know, my memory of Eric Dyerwill probably always be, you know,
when he came out quite early inPochettino's tenure, Pound for the Sweat that

say about Tottenham and we don't likeit. One of the Albanizing comments.
You know that he epitomized that timeand that and that early team. So

him, send him back, youknow, because they get strapped for cash.

I reckon, if anybody could geta tune out of Delhi, it

It wasn't a great game, butwe did the job. We did the

draw, like say, we've we'vegot a nine days of rest in between
now. It should be great forfitness for returning players, you know,

do we know you know for thoseis it still nil nil in the nil
between Liverpool and and the and thegoons who are wearing shirts white shirts because
obviously they would rather really be Spurs, wouldn't they They would, they would
they'd love it, I mean,you know. And that's why when you

until until later on in the competition. It'd be nice if we got you
know, if we've got you know, an older shot or somebody like Coventry.
Maybe is a draw tonight rich tomorrowevening, tomorrow evening, right,

that made us look worse recently,is we've we've been dropping back a bit

But we've got two teams coming upin the league, you know, Man

United and then Brentford. You know, obviously we're for that one and then
we're at home against Brentford. Brentfordare in a bit of a wobbly,
you know, they're not They're normallya really difficult side to play, you
know, you know, as talkof them losing key players during the transfer
window as well. I think bothof these January league games plus the Cup,

you know, they're all very,very winnable, and you don't say
that about going to Man United veryoften. I did read the other day
it's their worst run of form inthe league since nineteen ninety or nineteen eighty
nine, back in the days wheneverybody was calling for Ferguson's head. Yep,

three goals in US, but Ithink I'm going to go for a two
