Speaker 1 (00:02):
The World Unexplained. The World Explained a podcast that explores
the unusual beliefs, conspiracies, customs, rituals and traditions from around
the world. This is your host, Doctor Carlos.
Speaker 2 (00:30):
The woman in twenty eighth five. That's right, the nineteen
ninety five death of the Oslo Plaza Woman, which was
featured on the old show Unsolved Mysteries. It's a strange story.
Everyone familiar with the case knows that the Oslo Plaza
woman died from a bullet wound to the forehead. Which
remains unclear though, is her actual identity and the truth
(00:51):
about what led to her death. Let's take a look
at the story. I May thirty first, nineteen ninety five,
a young woman registered at the Oslo Plaza hotel in
Norse was given access to room twenty eighth five without
providing a credit card. The guest registered as Jennifer Fairgate,
but twice since signed her name is Jennifer Furgate Fairgate
(01:13):
ifair Gate Fairgate was spelled fer Gate and also registered
as Lois Fairgate. Three days later, security guard knocked at
room twenty eight oh five after the hotel's repeated attempts
to secure a payment from the faregates. A loud noise
rang out, presumably a gunshot, and the security guard left
to inform the head of security rather than using a
(01:35):
two way radio to broadcast his suspicions. Fifteen minutes later,
authorities discovered Jennifer's dead body. A subsequent investigation determined that
the woman had a ninety nine percent chance of committing
suicide and that a second registered guest had never been
in the room. But is that really what happened? The
Unsolved Mysteries TV show heavily implies that Jennifer most likely
(01:58):
didn't kill herself. The death scene in Room twenty eight
oh five raises major doubts, according to them, about the
suicide theory evidence, primarily by the deceased post mortem grip
on her pistol. A retired crime scene investigator describes a
gun as an assault weapon and states that it would
have been likely dropped after the shooting due to a
hard recoil, especially when considering that Jennifer had gripped the
(02:20):
trigger with her thumb. Now, the TV show of Unsolved
Mysteries reveals that the deceased didn't even have any blood
on her shooting hand, which serves as a further evidence
and that the body had been staged. Well, all that's
really known about the Oslo Plausa woman is that she
was presumably twenty four years old at the time of
her death, and then she was most likely from East Germany.
(02:42):
As for her actual identity, Norwegian intelligence operative Ola Caldago
believes that Jennifer was actually a secret agent. Now Unsolved
Mysteries says that presents a clear timeline of advents and
details Jennifer's day to day movements. In fact, an investigation
reveals that Jennifer left the hotel for approximately twenty hours
(03:02):
at one point. The police theory pauses that Jennifer fired
a single gun shot and killed herself when a security
guard knocked at Room twenty eight oh five, while murder
theories have a suspect leaving the room during the fifteen
minute stretch after the guard left. But Unsolved Mysteries, as
thorough as they may be, leaves out two important pieces
of information. And autopsy revealed that Jennifer had undigested food
(03:26):
in her body, which is significant because it's the same
food that she ordered from room service twenty four hours
before her death on Friday June second, the Unsolved Mysteries
subject called for a hot bite of broughtwurst and potato
salad at eight oh six. Upon receiving the meal, she
offered up a fifty chip kroner, five times more than
was expected. One day later, forensic unit noted that half
(03:48):
of the meal have been eaten. If the suicide theory
is correct, the Jennifer Fear would have eaten her room
service meal one day after the fact before committing suicide.
Unsolved Mystery wording to his screen rants also leaves out
the fact that the two shots were fired, not one.
The suicide theory implies that Jennifer fire shot into a
pillow before killing herself. She may have done that long
(04:10):
before security knocked at Room twenty eight oh five, or
she may have done it after. However, if Jennifer was
indeed killed one day prior on June second, then what
did the head of security hear? Perhaps a warning shot
meant to alarm the knocker. If the decease was indeed
some type of secret agent, an argument could be made
that someone, presumably an assassin, killed her on June second,
(04:30):
stayed in the room through June third to cover up
the crime. Scene. One of the reasons the hotel employees
noted an acrid kind of smell. Then the assassin could
stage the body and fired a warning shot and exit
of the room when security left. Unsolved mysteries also implies
an interviewees spent a good amount of time discussing Jennifer's
(04:52):
nine millimeters semi automatic browning pistol in the twenty five
rounds as she had in a briefcase for the audience
is the backstory of the weapon isn't necessar what's important,
but rather how it connects to the death scene. In
that case, Netflix gets the job done by informing viewers
about the specifics how Jennifer held a gun and why
it's powerful. Kickback suggests that would have fallen from her hand.
But what they didn't cover is the revelation in Wagner's
(05:15):
VG report that the weapon isn't actually an authentic browning pistol.
It's one of the few pieces of evidence that wasn't
destroyed in nineteen ninety six after Jennifer's case was closed.
The pistol was found doing Wagner's investigation and VG and
a weapons expert claims is actually a Hungarian copy from
the sixties or seventies that comprise of several parts. The
(05:36):
pistols also reported a military weapon which could potentially collaborate
or collaborate the secret agent concept or theory. Most importantly,
Jennifer's fingerprints were not found on her a Lledg's suicide pistol,
which strengthens the theory that someone killed her and then
wiped the gun. Either way, Wagner makes a trip to Belgium,
(06:00):
the town that Jennifer listed on her Oslo Plaza hotel registration.
He realized that the mystery woman wasn't from the community,
but had enough knowledge of the area to pass herself
off as a resident, and Wegner's investigation, he goes deeper
into the Belgian connection and links it to the serial
killer Mark Dutreaux. During the mid nineties, du trou kidnapped
(06:21):
and murdered several young women, which subsequently changed our missing
people of paperwork was handled with in Belgium. The first
disappearance took place in June twenty fourth, nineteen ninety five.
Unsolved Mysteries also leads out the fact that a newspaper
was found in room twenty eight oh five with the
number twenty eight sixteen written on it. Unfortunately, the Plaza
(06:42):
hotel doesn't have guest lists from nineteen ninety five, so
it's unclear who stayed in room twenty eight sixteen. However,
Wagner did discover that the occupant of room twenty eight
eighteen Borghad's strandents called the Oslo police six days after
Jennifer's death and informed them about a suspicious couple. Ignore
will also discover that a Belgian man had stayed in
the room across from Jennifer shortly before her death, and
(07:05):
the VG report. The man has identified only as mister X,
and he's tracked down to his home Anders in Belgium.
Upon being questioned about Jennifer and mister X claims that
he was informed about the twenty eighth four death upon
checking out the morning of The only problem with that
statement is Jennifer died on the evening of June third,
the man checked out on the morning of June third,
(07:26):
So why did mister X claim that he was informed
about the murder before it happened. This case, unfortunately remains unexplained,
but it's a fascinating story. Nonetheless, that's why we shared
it to today's podcast. If you want to support us,
