DEVOTION AND MEDITATION
Matthew 6:33
Our Focus should not be on the Problem but on the Provider.

When life feels overwhelming and the weight of the world presses hard on your shoulders, Matthew 6:33 offers a calming reminder: “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” This verse invites us to shift our focus from the chaos around us to the God who holds everything together. Instead of letting anxiety rule the moment, Jesus teaches us to realign our priorities—His presence first, His peace first, His purpose first.

Speaker 1 (00:04):
Thank you for joining us here on Morning Moments with
Jesus once again. And you know, as we gather each
and every day Monday through Friday for our devotions, God
has just really enriched our lives through these devotions. He's
spoke to us on many different subjects. He's brought us
together in prayer over certain subjects, encouraged us. And I've

(00:28):
just really enjoyed this time spending with Jesus in the devotions.
But also, even though we can't see each other face
to face, we've spent a lot of time together in
the mornings or whenever you're able to listen to these
Morning Moments with Jesus. That has really brought encouragement to
our lives. And so this morning, as we speak on

(00:50):
a subject that I believe so many of us have
dealt with at least once or twice in our lives.
And that's that feeling of being overwhelmed when you begin
to worry and wonder about things that need to be
provided for you or for your home, or for your family,
or maybe it's issues with your children, maybe it's issues

(01:14):
in a marriage or finances, but we just begin to
worry and before long we seem very overwhelmed in life.
But the Lord really speaks to us, and he speaks
very clearly in Matthew chapter six. We call sometimes that
the worry chapter, when Jesus is talking about how he
provides for us. And I want to pick up this

(01:37):
morning in Matthew chapter six and verse number thirty three
because it's the summary or the conclusion of a thought
process that Jesus has when it comes to the fact
that sometimes even the most devoted believers can feel overwhelmed.

(01:59):
But he says in Matthew chapter six and verse thirty three,
seek ye first the Kingdom of God and his righteousness,
and all these things shall be added unto you. This
verse comes after a discourse about worrying and wondering, wondering

(02:20):
about what's going to happen next or how are we
going to be provided for. Jesus speaks of the fact
that our focus should always be on the provider and
not the problem. But oftentimes in our lives we have
that reverse. We spend way too much time focused on
the problem instead of on the provider. The first word

(02:44):
that comes up here in this verse that catches my
attention is the word seek. That means that the provisions
that God has for us are not always in plain sight,
and they only come through time spent with Jesus and
seeking what we can do for him, and not always

(03:05):
what He can do for us. Let me make sure
we understand that this morning he said, I want you
to seek this morning, but don't seek just what I
can do for you. The Lord says, seek what you
can do for me. Also, his kingdom is higher than

(03:29):
the earthly kingdoms we build for ourselves. Paul writes to
the Philippians, My God shall supply all your need according
to his riches in Glory by Christ Jesus. I want
you to notice this morning that these verses indicate the
place where we find the blessings and the provisions of God,

(03:53):
in glory and in heavenly places. It indicates a higher
place than our problems and our worries. Let's be honest
this morning. We often want to call Jesus down into
our issues, but Jesus is calling us hire to bring
us out of our issues, and so we need to
focus upon Him and his kingdom today, not our own

(04:17):
justification of how much we deserve or how much we need,
but seek His right way of doing things. See Righteousness
simply means right with God, and the Lord is saying
in this verse, if you just get up every day
and make sure before anything else in life that you're

(04:39):
right with Me, then you won't be overwhelmed. You'll be
confident in knowing I can take care of this for you.
So the verse simply says, to focus on your relationship
with the Lord today. He knows what you need and
he shall supp reply it when it is needed the most.

(05:04):
So be content with such things as you have, and
understand that God will provide all things in his timing
through Christ Jesus. I believe King David said it best
in Psalm thirty seven and verse twenty five when he
said this, I have been young and now I am old.

(05:26):
Yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken nor his
seed begging bread. So today don't be overwhelmed. Be overjoyed
in knowing that your God will supply what you need
when you need it, and that should be enough for us.

(05:48):
No worrying, no wondering, no overwhelmed, just content with whatever
God has for us. Today. Be safe, be strong, be blessed,
but don't be overwhelmed. Amen,

The Burden

The Burden

The Burden is a documentary series that takes listeners into the hidden places where justice is done (and undone). It dives deep into the lives of heroes and villains. And it focuses a spotlight on those who triumph even when the odds are against them. Season 5 - The Burden: Death & Deceit in Alliance On April Fools Day 1999, 26-year-old Yvonne Layne was found murdered in her Alliance, Ohio home. David Thorne, her ex-boyfriend and father of one of her children, was instantly a suspect. Another young man admitted to the murder, and David breathed a sigh of relief, until the confessed murderer fingered David; “He paid me to do it.” David was sentenced to life without parole. Two decades later, Pulitzer winner and podcast host, Maggie Freleng (Bone Valley Season 3: Graves County, Wrongful Conviction, Suave) launched a “live” investigation into David's conviction alongside Jason Baldwin (himself wrongfully convicted as a member of the West Memphis Three). Maggie had come to believe that the entire investigation of David was botched by the tiny local police department, or worse, covered up the real killer. Was Maggie correct? Was David’s claim of innocence credible? In Death and Deceit in Alliance, Maggie recounts the case that launched her career, and ultimately, “broke” her.” The results will shock the listener and reduce Maggie to tears and self-doubt. This is not your typical wrongful conviction story. In fact, it turns the genre on its head. It asks the question: What if our champions are foolish? Season 4 - The Burden: Get the Money and Run “Trying to murder my father, this was the thing that put me on the path.” That’s Joe Loya and that path was bank robbery. Bank, bank, bank, bank, bank. In season 4 of The Burden: Get the Money and Run, we hear from Joe who was once the most prolific bank robber in Southern California, and beyond. He used disguises, body doubles, proxies. He leaped over counters, grabbed the money and ran. Even as the FBI was closing in. It was a showdown between a daring bank robber, and a patient FBI agent. Joe was no ordinary bank robber. He was bright, articulate, charismatic, and driven by a dark rage that he summoned up at will. In seven episodes, Joe tells all: the what, the how… and the why. Including why he tried to murder his father. Season 3 - The Burden: Avenger Miriam Lewin is one of Argentina’s leading journalists today. At 19 years old, she was kidnapped off the streets of Buenos Aires for her political activism and thrown into a concentration camp. Thousands of her fellow inmates were executed, tossed alive from a cargo plane into the ocean. Miriam, along with a handful of others, will survive the camp. Then as a journalist, she will wage a decades long campaign to bring her tormentors to justice. Avenger is about one woman’s triumphant battle against unbelievable odds to survive torture, claim justice for the crimes done against her and others like her, and change the future of her country. Season 2 - The Burden: Empire on Blood Empire on Blood is set in the Bronx, NY, in the early 90s, when two young drug dealers ruled an intersection known as “The Corner on Blood.” The boss, Calvin Buari, lived large. He and a protege swore they would build an empire on blood. Then the relationship frayed and the protege accused Calvin of a double homicide which he claimed he didn’t do. But did he? Award-winning journalist Steve Fishman spent seven years to answer that question. This is the story of one man’s last chance to overturn his life sentence. He may prevail, but someone’s gotta pay. The Burden: Empire on Blood is the director’s cut of the true crime classic which reached #1 on the charts when it was first released half a dozen years ago. Season 1 - The Burden In the 1990s, Detective Louis N. Scarcella was legendary. In a city overrun by violent crime, he cracked the toughest cases and put away the worst criminals. “The Hulk” was his nickname. Then the story changed. Scarcella ran into a group of convicted murderers who all say they are innocent. They turned themselves into jailhouse-lawyers and in prison founded a lway firm. When they realized Scarcella helped put many of them away, they set their sights on taking him down. And with the help of a NY Times reporter they have a chance. For years, Scarcella insisted he did nothing wrong. But that’s all he’d say. Until we tracked Scarcella to a sauna in a Russian bathhouse, where he started to talk..and talk and talk. “The guilty have gone free,” he whispered. And then agreed to take us into the belly of the beast. Welcome to The Burden.
