The Formula for Failure
Scripture: 1 Peter 5:8
“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour.”

God has a plan for our lives—a good and perfect plan, filled with purpose, peace, and victory through Christ. But we are not without opposition. The enemy of our souls, the devil, has a strategy too—a formula designed to derail us from walking in God’s best.

Speaker 1 (00:01):
Good morning.

Speaker 2 (00:01):
As we continue to talk today on our podcast about
the formula for failure, we need to note this morning
that the Lord has a great plan for us.

Speaker 1 (00:11):
As we talked about yesterday, he has.

Speaker 2 (00:13):
A wonderful plan already mapped out for your day. The
thing is, when we get up, wherever our mindset is
is to usually the direction our day will start to go.

Speaker 1 (00:24):
We all know that to be true.

Speaker 2 (00:25):
So as God has that plan for you, what God
really wants us to also be aware of is the
plan against us. The best offense is a great defense,
and so to know that there is a plan against
us helps us to become more in tune and more
aware of not only God's presence, but the presence of resistance.

(00:49):
Anytime you try to do something great in life, something
great for the Lord. Maybe you got some plans today
that are going to be very productive, there's always.

Speaker 1 (00:57):
Gonna be some kind of resistance.

Speaker 2 (00:59):
And as we talked about yesterday, the first thing that
the enemy, the devil always tries to do to kind
of get us off track is he begins to create doubt.
All right, So when we talked about doubt yesterday, and
doubt leads to discouragement, the third thing the Lord wants
to talk to us today about is that if we
stay too long in discouragement, if it's left unchecked, it

(01:22):
can deepen into a place called depression. And that place
called depression is a real place. It's a place of
emotional darkness sometimes in our lives, where we feel hopeless
or helpless to do anything. The enemy isolates us in
our thoughts. He amplifies lies. And I want you to
understand that this morning, kind of underline that in your

(01:43):
mind he amplifies lies and suppressing the light of God's
love and truth. What the issue is there in expressing
and amplifying those lies is he creates illusions of things
that aren't even there. And you begin to think about
those things and meditate on those things, and those thoughts

(02:05):
begin to consume you, and it can draw you into
a place where all of a sudden, you forget the productivity,
you forget the things that God has for you today.
And when that depression part starts, it comes into that
fourth area of play, and that is disassociation. So here's
what you got. You got doubt created in your mind.

(02:26):
When you begin to doubt things, you begin to get discouraged.
When you begin begin to get discouraged, it begins to
depress you, and there you begin to isolate yourself from
other people. In this stage, you begin to withdraw. You
begin to withdraw from people, your purpose, even from God
at times. And we pull away, sometimes from church, sometimes

(02:49):
from our friends. We even pull away from prayer and
talking to God and reading his word if we're not careful,
because isolation is one of the enemy's most effective tools,
because what he wants to do is he wants to
separate us from the body of Christ so he can
attack without any resistance or any accountability, just like a
lion sometimes isolates its prey.

Speaker 1 (03:11):
And so to.

Speaker 2 (03:12):
Combat this, you need to stay connected, stay planted in
God's family, reach out to people when you're feeling depressed
or discouraged, or when that doubt starts.

Speaker 1 (03:23):
To take place.

Speaker 2 (03:24):
Because in Hebrews chapter ten and verse number twenty five,
it even tells us that we should not forsake the
assembling of ourselves together, but even more so as the
day approaches. So those things are very important to keep
in place. Doubt, discouragement, depression, then disassociation, and all of

(03:44):
that has one common theme that he's always trying to
get to, and that is the destruction.

Speaker 1 (03:50):
The destruction is what his ultimate gold is.

Speaker 2 (03:54):
When you begin to say this is who I am,
this is who I'm always going to be, and I'm
never going to get any better, then he begins to
destroy your dreams, to destroy your motives, to destroy.

Speaker 1 (04:05):
Your walk with God. That's his plan.

Speaker 2 (04:08):
So the enemy's gold to utterly destroy your identity, your purpose,
your reputation, your calling, all of those things, even your
walk with God. He's trying to get to why because
if he can get you in that place, you are
less likely to be effective for God, to be effective,
for your family, to be effective in your own personal life.

(04:30):
That's his gold is to take all that away. But
this step only becomes reality if the previous things I've
just mentioned are left unaddressed. He cannot destroy what God
has sealed. So we need to understand that truth, repentance,
and the power of the Holy Spirit are what it

(04:51):
takes to combat this. In Christ, Jesus, listen to what
John ten ten says. The thief comes not but to steal,
to kill, and destroy. But I am come that you
might have life, and that you might have it more abundantly. See,
I want to tell you this morning. I know we
talked about a lot of negative things, doubt, discouragement, depression, disassociation,

(05:12):
and destruction. But I'm here to tell you this morning
that there is light in this message this morning because
you were not created to be consumed.

Speaker 1 (05:21):
You were created to conquer.

Speaker 2 (05:24):
So the Bible tells us to be sober, be vigilant,
but recognize that the enemy has a formula against us.

Speaker 1 (05:33):
But God has a formula for us.

Speaker 2 (05:36):
So instead of living in the formula of failure, live
in the formula of faith, hope, joy, connection, and restoration.
That's the true path that God has for us. So
when you get up this morning, I want you to
be aware. I want you to be aware that there
are things around you that are trying to steal your day,
but there is also a great positive purpose for your life,

(05:58):
or you wouldn't have woke up to this morning. So
get about your business. Be mindful of the negative things
around you, but don't pursue those. Don't focus on those,
focus on what God has for you today. Be steadfast, unmovable,
always abounding in the work of the Lord. And you
know that your labor is never in vain. If it's

(06:21):
in the Lord. So today you be safe, you be strong,
and you be blessed, and Lord's will will see you
back here again tomorrow.

Speaker 1 (06:29):
Have a great and wonderful day.
