Speaker 1 (00:01):
I'd like to welcome each and every one of you
in this morning to our devotion time here at morning Moments.
I thank you guys so much for joining us today
as we just meditate upon the Word of God and
see what He has for us today. I'm sitting here
this morning looking at Acts chapter sixteen. It's a really
powerful chapter in the Bible as it kind of chronicles
(00:21):
the story of Paul and Silas and their missionary journey together.
This particular passage that I'm looking at this morning, I've
looked at for many years and just always drawn a
lot of strengths from the fact that it's a certainty
that we're gonna have these kind of moments, these dark
moments in our lives where it really tests our faith,
(00:42):
it tests our trust level, and and how God will
deliver us from certain things in our lives. And Paul
and Silas painting us a beautiful picture of how to
handle those moments. I'd like to read that to you
this morning, Acts chapter sixteen, and we pick up this
morning verse number twenty five. They've already gone through a struggle.
(01:03):
They've had a damsel with a spirit of devination kind
of harassing them. They cast out that devil. It caused
trouble in the city, caused them to get arrested, caused
them to get beaten, and all of these things. And
now they're thrown into the inner parts of the prison.
And in verse number twenty five, it says, and at midnight,
(01:26):
Paul and Silas prayed and sang praises unto God, and
the prison prisoners heard them, and suddenly there was a
great earthquake, so that the foundation of the prison was
shitworth shaken. And immediately all the doors were open and
everyone's bands were loose. This portion of scripture kind of
(01:51):
backs up our lives as well, because everyone has these
what I call midnight moments, those times when things look
dark and maybe even hopeless. Those times come to reveal
the true character that's in all of us, and is
there's some things about this story that kind of reveal
the heart of these two people. And prayerfully will bless
(02:13):
your heart today, particularly if you're going through a struggle
in your life or what you consider to be a
very dark moment in your life. First of all, and foremost,
for Paul and Silence, there had to be a decision made,
because it was midnight. It was the crossing of two days,
and sometimes that symbolizes the crossing of two different opinions
(02:34):
and how you're going to handle those things. Paul and
Silace had gone through a really bad time, but they
have every reason to be discouraged and even defeated. Just
as midnight comes in every day, it also comes in
every life and that moment when you either give up
(02:55):
or you take charge of the situation and trust that
God is going to bring you through. The second thing
that I noticed in this powerful word of God is
not only did they make a decision, they made a
unified decision. Can anybody give testimony this morning that whatever
struggle you go through, it's a whole lot better when
(03:19):
you have someone like minded to go through that struggle
with you. Paul and Silence that had to decide on
what to do. And I remember Matthew chapter eighteen and
verse number twenty says that where two or three are
gathered together, that the Lord is in the midst of them.
And that's why Christ sent them out two by two
(03:43):
because they needed a faithful friend. And I'm asking you
this morning, do you need that faithful counterpart to maybe
help you through that struggle? Because When that happens, powerful
things happen when people unite for the cause of Christ
decided that they would not allow their circumstances to override
(04:04):
their joy. And when hard times come, it either brings
forth fear or it brings forth ground shaking faith. And
there was some keys to deliverance in this story. If
you'll look back at verse number twenty five, it says,
they prayed, and they sing praises to God. They turned
(04:27):
the two keys that they had that they had always
relied upon, they put them into play, and they trusted
that God was going to deliver them. Because of these
key elements in their life. Prayer in the midnight hour
moves God to deliver his people. James, Chapter five and
verse sixteen says the effectual, fervent prayers of a righteous
(04:50):
man avails much. And then when they went through this,
I want you to look in verse number twenty six
five twenty six h twenty five says the prisoners heard them.
People seldom sing and pray after they've been beaten and
thrown into prison. I'll give you that, But they've tried
(05:15):
to fall into this trap that tells them that they
must be buried in their midnight moments. But they heard
Paul in Silence doing something very different. And when they
heard them singing and praising God in the midst of
their darkest moment, it gave them hope also. And then
(05:35):
all of a sudden, two words in verse number twenty
six leap into play. Suddenly and immediately. God did not wait.
I want you to get this this morning. God did
not wait until daylight. He came while it was still midnight.
And the same power is available to us today. See,
(05:57):
they decided that the devil was not going I want
to steal their joy. If he could divide them, then
somehow maybe he could steal Silence's joy or Paul's joy.
But they were united. They were united, and that brought
the power. If you find yourself in a midnight moment today,
(06:19):
I'm wondering what decision you will make, What would it
take to break you? And do you have someone to
lift you up when you get to that breaking point?
Because just like Paul and Silence made up their mind,
I want to tell you something, they made up their
mind long before they got thrown into prison, long before
(06:41):
the midnight moment came. They had already decided that the
devil couldn't break them. The devil couldn't do anything to
them unless God was already making a plan to deliver them.
Why they were doing what was right before the Lord.
I speak a blessing over you. Maybe you're going through
(07:04):
a dark moment in your life. Maybe you're going through
a place where it just seems hopeless and you just
don't see how it's gonna work out. Right. I challenge
you today sing songs of praise, even if you don't
feel like it. Sing songs of praise. Pray to God.
(07:24):
Quote the word of God that said, no weapon formed
against me shall prosper. Lord, I am more than a conqueror.
I can do all things through Christ what strengthens me.
The Bible says that the devil can touch not his anointed,
and do his profits no harm. So you claim the
word of God today, sing those songs that lift your spirit,
(07:46):
and watch God move you out of that midnight moment
into the break of day once again. I pray for
you today. You be safe, you be strong, and you
always be blessed. And you know that God has always
He's got a deliverance waiting for his people. Lords, we
will see you back here again tomorrow, and until then,
(08:07):
as always, I shall pray you have a great day.
