You know, the Bible is full of so many interesting
and wonderful stories that not only instruct us on how
to live our lives on a daily basis, but it
challenges our faith. It instructs us on how to live
through victories and to live through valleys. There are stories
of great adventure, there's stories of fear. There's just so
(00:36):
many things that we can learn from the Word of God.
And this morning the Lord takes us to Matthew chapter
fourteen for such a story. It's one that many of
us may know well because it's a story of Peter
when he walked on the water to go to Jesus.
And so many times when it's preached, and I've preached
as well, we often focus on the fact that he
(00:59):
took his eyes off Jesus and put his eyes on
the storm, and therefore he began to sink. And that
is a tremendous story. It speaks and preaches of a
tremendous truth that we need to keep our focus in
our eyes on Jesus. But today I also want to
talk to you about what it really means to get
out of the boat and to go to Jesus in
(01:21):
the first place, and the faith that he and trust
that he put in Jesus during this situation that allowed
him to do something super natural that went against the
natural course of things, to do supernatural, extraordinary event that
(01:41):
nobody's been able to duplicate since. In Matthew chapter fourteen,
and beginning in verse number twenty six, he says, and
when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, we're
speaking of Jesus. They were troubled, saying it is a spirit.
And they cried out for fear. But straightway Jesus spake
(02:02):
unto them, saying, be of good cheer it is I
be not afraid. And Peter, answering him, said, Lord, if
it be thou bid me coming to thee on the water,
not in the water. He said, coming to me, coming
to thee on the water. And he said come, verse
(02:24):
number twenty nine. And Jesus said come. And when Peter
had come down out of the ship, he walked on
the water to go to Jesus. I want to show
you something this morning. In the Word of God. We're
not going to focus on the fact that he took
his eyes off Jesus. We're going to focus on the
(02:44):
fact that he put his eyes on Jesus, and Jesus
said one word, come, and Peter stepped out of the
boat and he walked on water. This wasn't a calm sea.
The wind was still wearing, the waves were still high.
But Peter wasn't focused on the storm. Not at this point.
(03:06):
He was focused on the Savior. I want you to
get that this morning, in our devotion time, he was
not focused on the storm. He was focused on the Savior.
One step at a time, he did what was humanly impossible,
feel that he had never a feeling that he had
(03:28):
never known before, that had never known water walking all
of a sudden, found firm footing because his faith was
what was in motion, not just his footsteps. His faith
is what was carrying him across that water. This is
what happens, and this is what God wants us to
(03:49):
know this morning, in this devotion time. This is what happens.
When you respond to Jesus's call, the impossible, all of
a sudden becomes possible. The natural has to give way
to the supernatural, because when Jesus calls, He's already equipped
you with everything you need to step out of your boat,
(04:14):
out of your situation, out of whatever it is your
comfort zone and step into the unknown and go against
the natural and do the supernatural, go against the ordinary,
and do the extraordinary, and watch what happens. I want
you to notice something. Jesus didn't give Peter a detailed plan.
(04:36):
He didn't explain how it would work. He just simply
said one word come. And the importance of that is
sometimes we stay in our comfort zone simply because we
don't have the whole plan, simply because we can't see
the next step, or we don't have a laid out
or design of what's going to happen next. We talked
(05:00):
on a Wednesday night a few weeks ago that statistically
proven a thousand people. I think we're surveyed in this
survey and to ask them what they were most afraid of,
and the number one answer is the unknown. They are afraid.
We are obviously afraid of the unknown. If we don't
(05:21):
know what's coming next, for some reason, we just will
not step out of our comfort zone. But faith, it
moves on one word, not a blueprint. It moves on
God's word, not a detailed design. See many stay in
the boat, which is their comfort zone, waiting for the
storm to pass, waiting for more clarity, waiting until it
(05:44):
feels safe or secure. But the miracle is not in
the boat. The miracle came when he stepped out of
the boat. You may not feel ready today. The conditions
may look impossible to you. I get that. But if
Jesus is calling you, the safest place you can be
(06:05):
is on the water with him, not in the boat,
and not in the storm. This is an invitation step
out today. The Lord wants somebody to know our in
our morning moments with Jesus devotion. Time here this morning
to fix your eyes on Jesus, just that his word
(06:25):
is stronger than your fear, and the water that should
sink you all of a sudden becomes a platform where
your faith can grow. Instead of sinking beneath your circumstances,
you'll be rising above them. Jesus his calling us today,
(06:47):
and we need to say this to the Lord today. Jesus,
if you're calling me, I will step out and come
to you. I refuse to let fear keep me stuck
in my circumstances, and I ask you today to strengthen
my faith, to step out, to keep my eyes locked
on you, and to let my life be a testimony
(07:09):
of what's possible when I trust you completely. Today, I
want you to be safe, to be strong, and to
be blessed, and above all, I want you to be
able to step out on faith and understand that God
is waiting for you to make that first step. If
Jesus is calling, then you better believe He's more than
(07:32):
equipped you to do the supernatural lords will will see
you back here again tomorrow, and until then, I sure
hope you have a great day.
