Speaker 1 (00:15):
Thank you for joining us today as we get ready
for our devotion time this morning, the Lord wants to
speak a very specific message to, if not all of us,
at least some of us who wake up today. Maybe
you're facing something today, You've got to face it early
this morning, and you're a little fearful about it. Maybe
you're a little anxious about it. Maybe you just don't

(00:36):
want to go through the process of having to deal
with it. But whatever it is, God's got a word
for you this morning that it's going to take courage
and you're going to need strength, but by His grace
you will be able to make it through it. And
then once you face it, once you deal with it,
once you tackle it the way the Lord wants you to,

(00:58):
you will come out better on the other side for it.
It will now no longer be a wait that tries
to hold you down. It will not be something that
occupies your mind morning, noon, and night. You will subdue it.
You will bring it into captivity and you will be
able to handle this situation. And it will not only
make your life better, it's going to make people's life

(01:20):
around you better. I'm reminded of a word this morning
in Joshua one and verse number nine. I'd like to
share that with you this morning, that says the Lord
said to Joshua. Have not I commanded thee. Notice he said,
commanded THEE be strong and of a good courage. Be
not afraid, neither be thou dismayed, For the Lord Die.

(01:43):
God is with THEE. Wheresoever thou goest, pay attention to
that this morning. The Lord, your God is with you
wherever you go, even into situations you don't want to
deal with sometimes. See the story of Joshua is one

(02:04):
of the most inspiring parts of the Bible if you
really think about it, because it showcases the courage and
strength that God instilled in him. Not the courage and
strength he had just naturally, but the courage and strength
that God put inside of him. And when God passed
the mantle of moses leadership to Joshua, he reassured him

(02:28):
with a powerful message that said, be strong and of
a good courage. I want you to imagine stepping into
such a shadow as Moses, the shadow that Moses cast,
Joshua had to be a little anxious about taking on
that role leading a nation into the Promised Land. Joshua

(02:49):
faced many challenges, from crossing the Jordan River to battling
fierce enemies, but I want you to notice that his
faith in God's promise is what led him forward. And
in a world where we live in where uncertainties and
challenges try to weigh us down, maybe the one that's
trying to weigh you down today, it's easy to feel anxious. However,

(03:12):
as believers, we have a beautiful source of courage and
strength in Jesus Christ, the Lord. His love and grace
empower us to face life trials with a joyful heart
and an unshakable faith. So it's important for us to
recognize that our strength does not come from our own abilities,

(03:33):
comes from our relationship with Jesus. Remember what it said
in Philmbia's thirteen. He said I can do all things,
but then he qualifies it through Christ, which strengthens me.
This verse is a powerful reminder that no matter the
challenges we face in life, be it personal struggles, be
it health issues, or just daily goals and tasks, Christ

(03:55):
is our cornerstone, and when we lean on him, Praise
the Lord, we can find a courage to lead us forward. See,
courage is not the absence of fear. You've heard that before.
It's the resolve to move forward in spite of the fear,
and Jesus encourages us to be courageous. He assures us

(04:16):
so that in John chapter sixteen and verse thirty three,
I won't you listen to what it says. These things
have I spoken unto you that in me you might
have peace. In the world you shall have tribulation, but
be of good cheer. I have overcome the world. This
promise tells me this morning that I can face my fears,

(04:40):
whether they are related to relationships, work, or even spiritual battles,
because we have the ultimate victory already in Jesus Christ.
One of the most beautiful parts of our faith is
that our weakness can be our greatest strength. That's hard
for people to realize, but writes about it in the

(05:00):
Second Corinthians, chapter twelve and verse number nine. He writes,
My grace is sufficient for you, says the Lord, and
MY power is made perfect in your weakness. This means
that when you feel like you can't go on, that
is the precise moment that Jesus's power can shine the

(05:21):
brightest in your life. You can approach your struggles, knowing
that your difficulties are merely opportunities for His strength to
be revealed in your life today. So how do you
maintain courage and strength in your daily life? Well, this morning,
I need to tell you it starts with prayer, immersing

(05:42):
yourself in God's word, and seeking his presence in every situation,
even the one you've got to face today. When you
can focus on the goodness of God and the blessings
that are in your life, you develop a sense of
peace that can fuel your courage and your strength in
every situation. So today remember to put your faith in Jesus,

(06:05):
not in yourself. That your courage and strength comes from
who dwells inside of you, the power of the Holy Spirit,
not from your own abilities and attributes. He is your
source of strength and the only one that gives us
the courage to face the day that's before us. So
today you be safe, you be strong, and you be blessed,

(06:30):
and you be the person today that says I may
not want to deal with this, but by the grace
of God, I will stand in his courage and in
his strength, and I will have the victory. You have
a great and wonderful day,

The Burden

The Burden

The Burden is a documentary series that takes listeners into the hidden places where justice is done (and undone). It dives deep into the lives of heroes and villains. And it focuses a spotlight on those who triumph even when the odds are against them. Season 5 - The Burden: Death & Deceit in Alliance On April Fools Day 1999, 26-year-old Yvonne Layne was found murdered in her Alliance, Ohio home. David Thorne, her ex-boyfriend and father of one of her children, was instantly a suspect. Another young man admitted to the murder, and David breathed a sigh of relief, until the confessed murderer fingered David; “He paid me to do it.” David was sentenced to life without parole. Two decades later, Pulitzer winner and podcast host, Maggie Freleng (Bone Valley Season 3: Graves County, Wrongful Conviction, Suave) launched a “live” investigation into David's conviction alongside Jason Baldwin (himself wrongfully convicted as a member of the West Memphis Three). Maggie had come to believe that the entire investigation of David was botched by the tiny local police department, or worse, covered up the real killer. Was Maggie correct? Was David’s claim of innocence credible? In Death and Deceit in Alliance, Maggie recounts the case that launched her career, and ultimately, “broke” her.” The results will shock the listener and reduce Maggie to tears and self-doubt. This is not your typical wrongful conviction story. In fact, it turns the genre on its head. It asks the question: What if our champions are foolish? Season 4 - The Burden: Get the Money and Run “Trying to murder my father, this was the thing that put me on the path.” That’s Joe Loya and that path was bank robbery. Bank, bank, bank, bank, bank. In season 4 of The Burden: Get the Money and Run, we hear from Joe who was once the most prolific bank robber in Southern California, and beyond. He used disguises, body doubles, proxies. He leaped over counters, grabbed the money and ran. Even as the FBI was closing in. It was a showdown between a daring bank robber, and a patient FBI agent. Joe was no ordinary bank robber. He was bright, articulate, charismatic, and driven by a dark rage that he summoned up at will. In seven episodes, Joe tells all: the what, the how… and the why. Including why he tried to murder his father. Season 3 - The Burden: Avenger Miriam Lewin is one of Argentina’s leading journalists today. At 19 years old, she was kidnapped off the streets of Buenos Aires for her political activism and thrown into a concentration camp. Thousands of her fellow inmates were executed, tossed alive from a cargo plane into the ocean. Miriam, along with a handful of others, will survive the camp. Then as a journalist, she will wage a decades long campaign to bring her tormentors to justice. Avenger is about one woman’s triumphant battle against unbelievable odds to survive torture, claim justice for the crimes done against her and others like her, and change the future of her country. Season 2 - The Burden: Empire on Blood Empire on Blood is set in the Bronx, NY, in the early 90s, when two young drug dealers ruled an intersection known as “The Corner on Blood.” The boss, Calvin Buari, lived large. He and a protege swore they would build an empire on blood. Then the relationship frayed and the protege accused Calvin of a double homicide which he claimed he didn’t do. But did he? Award-winning journalist Steve Fishman spent seven years to answer that question. This is the story of one man’s last chance to overturn his life sentence. He may prevail, but someone’s gotta pay. The Burden: Empire on Blood is the director’s cut of the true crime classic which reached #1 on the charts when it was first released half a dozen years ago. Season 1 - The Burden In the 1990s, Detective Louis N. Scarcella was legendary. In a city overrun by violent crime, he cracked the toughest cases and put away the worst criminals. “The Hulk” was his nickname. Then the story changed. Scarcella ran into a group of convicted murderers who all say they are innocent. They turned themselves into jailhouse-lawyers and in prison founded a lway firm. When they realized Scarcella helped put many of them away, they set their sights on taking him down. And with the help of a NY Times reporter they have a chance. For years, Scarcella insisted he did nothing wrong. But that’s all he’d say. Until we tracked Scarcella to a sauna in a Russian bathhouse, where he started to talk..and talk and talk. “The guilty have gone free,” he whispered. And then agreed to take us into the belly of the beast. Welcome to The Burden.
