Psalms 46:4
There is a river, the streams whereof shall make glad the city of God, the holy place of the tabernacles of the most High.

There is a river.
It’s not just any river, it’s the river of God. Psalm 46:4 tells us, “There is a river, the streams whereof shall make glad the city of God, the holy place of the tabernacles of the most High.” This is no ordinary body of water. It’s the very flow of life that comes from the heart of God Himself. It’s a picture of grace, joy, peace, and provision, all flowing freely from the Source, who is our loving Father.

Speaker 1 (00:13):
This morning. In Psalm chapter forty six and verse number four,
it says, there is a river, the streams whereof shall
make glad, the City of God, the Holy Place, the
Tabernacle of the Most High. It begins by saying, there
is a river. And it's not just any river. It's
the river of God. And as we look at that,

(00:36):
this is no ordinary body of water. It's the very
flow of life that comes from the heart of God himself.
About that, and I thought about that, begin to see
a picture of grace, joy, peace, provisions, power, prosperity, all
the provisions and protection of God flowing freely from one source,

(00:57):
and that is our loving Father. The thing about the
river is every river has a source. Without it, there
is no current, there is no flow, there is no movement,
there is no life. That source for us is God.
He is where everything starts in your life, and from

(01:17):
whom all the blessings of life flow. The peace that
you have, your joy, your wisdom, your strength, your understanding,
every blessing, it all begins with God. And just like
the river draws from the high springs in the mountains
and begin to flow down and past us, we too

(01:38):
draw that same source of strength from the Throne of Grace. See,
without that connection that we have, the river dries up,
and so do we. But here's what's so beautiful as
I begin to meditate on that, here's what God really
showed me that I want to pass on to you
this morning. God doesn't just give us small trickles of water.

(02:02):
He pours out rivers of blessings, Rivers that refresh dry hearts,
Rivers that wash away burdens, Rivers that bring healing to
your soul and to relationships. And your life is meant
to carry that flow into everything you do and everything
you touch should be blessed because of what flows to

(02:24):
you and then is allowed to flow through you. Rivers
also have a destination if you really think about it.
That body of water that was going by us. My
wife made the comments, she say, you know, the water
we're looking at right now will never be back this
way again. It just flows straight on down to wherever
it's destination is. But we'll never see that particular water again.

(02:48):
And rivers have that destination. They don't just exist to
gently flow without a purpose. There is a direction and
a path for every river, just like there's a death
as the river winds its way to the ocean. You
also are headed somewhere, and that's through the plan of God.
So I want you to be encouraged by that this morning,

(03:10):
that He's mapped out and sees the end from the beginning.
You may not always know the bends and turns of life,
but if you trust in God his leading, he will
lead you to a good place, a place of impact,
a place of promise, a place where you can be fruitful.
And there's something else to remember when I begin to

(03:31):
think about this river. Rivers don't just exist for themselves.
I sit there and watch, and I watched all the
wildlife that was around that river, and that was counting
on that river. That's something very precious, because have you
ever stopped to consider what all depends on the river?

(03:52):
Tree lines, banks digging their roots into the soul for nourishment.
Animals would come every day, geese, ducks, all the kinds
of things to drink and hunt for food. Birds rest
in the branches of the trees, fish swim freely. What
I'm trying to tell you this morning is even flowers
bloom because of that river. And in the same way,

(04:15):
your life and your connection to God matters. It matters
to more people than you could ever even realize or imagine.
Your peace brings peace to other people. Your joy is
contagious and makes other people feel joyful. Your wisdom has
influenced your prayers make a difference, and they cover the sick.

(04:37):
That's why when the enemy tries to defeat you and
discourage you, it's not only to affect you, it's to
stop the flow going through you that affects other people.
I hope you get that this morning, because when you
stay connected to the source, your life becomes a blessing
to more than just you. You become like a river

(04:58):
in the kingdom, bringing gladckness to the city of God.
So this morning, I want to ask you something before
we close out our devotion time. Is there anything that's
obstruct obstructing the river of life to flow to you
or through you. What's keeping the flow of God's joy,

(05:19):
his wisdom, the power from reaching the places that you
were meant to reach. What's stopping it? Is there a
relationship that needs to be healed. Is there a mindset
that needs to be changed, a habit that you need
to put down? Whatever it is, so this morning you
be safe you be strong, and you be blessed, and

(05:41):
you understand this. The Bible does say, without the shadow
of a doubt, there is a river, the streams whereof
shall make glad, the city of our God, the Holy Place,
the Tabernacle of the Most High, which will will see
you back here again to morrow. And until then, I

(06:02):
hope you have a great day, and I hope you
do whatever it takes to let the river flow. God
bless you.

The Burden

The Burden

The Burden is a documentary series that takes listeners into the hidden places where justice is done (and undone). It dives deep into the lives of heroes and villains. And it focuses a spotlight on those who triumph even when the odds are against them. Season 5 - The Burden: Death & Deceit in Alliance On April Fools Day 1999, 26-year-old Yvonne Layne was found murdered in her Alliance, Ohio home. David Thorne, her ex-boyfriend and father of one of her children, was instantly a suspect. Another young man admitted to the murder, and David breathed a sigh of relief, until the confessed murderer fingered David; “He paid me to do it.” David was sentenced to life without parole. Two decades later, Pulitzer winner and podcast host, Maggie Freleng (Bone Valley Season 3: Graves County, Wrongful Conviction, Suave) launched a “live” investigation into David's conviction alongside Jason Baldwin (himself wrongfully convicted as a member of the West Memphis Three). Maggie had come to believe that the entire investigation of David was botched by the tiny local police department, or worse, covered up the real killer. Was Maggie correct? Was David’s claim of innocence credible? In Death and Deceit in Alliance, Maggie recounts the case that launched her career, and ultimately, “broke” her.” The results will shock the listener and reduce Maggie to tears and self-doubt. This is not your typical wrongful conviction story. In fact, it turns the genre on its head. It asks the question: What if our champions are foolish? Season 4 - The Burden: Get the Money and Run “Trying to murder my father, this was the thing that put me on the path.” That’s Joe Loya and that path was bank robbery. Bank, bank, bank, bank, bank. In season 4 of The Burden: Get the Money and Run, we hear from Joe who was once the most prolific bank robber in Southern California, and beyond. He used disguises, body doubles, proxies. He leaped over counters, grabbed the money and ran. Even as the FBI was closing in. It was a showdown between a daring bank robber, and a patient FBI agent. Joe was no ordinary bank robber. He was bright, articulate, charismatic, and driven by a dark rage that he summoned up at will. In seven episodes, Joe tells all: the what, the how… and the why. Including why he tried to murder his father. Season 3 - The Burden: Avenger Miriam Lewin is one of Argentina’s leading journalists today. At 19 years old, she was kidnapped off the streets of Buenos Aires for her political activism and thrown into a concentration camp. Thousands of her fellow inmates were executed, tossed alive from a cargo plane into the ocean. Miriam, along with a handful of others, will survive the camp. Then as a journalist, she will wage a decades long campaign to bring her tormentors to justice. Avenger is about one woman’s triumphant battle against unbelievable odds to survive torture, claim justice for the crimes done against her and others like her, and change the future of her country. Season 2 - The Burden: Empire on Blood Empire on Blood is set in the Bronx, NY, in the early 90s, when two young drug dealers ruled an intersection known as “The Corner on Blood.” The boss, Calvin Buari, lived large. He and a protege swore they would build an empire on blood. Then the relationship frayed and the protege accused Calvin of a double homicide which he claimed he didn’t do. But did he? Award-winning journalist Steve Fishman spent seven years to answer that question. This is the story of one man’s last chance to overturn his life sentence. He may prevail, but someone’s gotta pay. The Burden: Empire on Blood is the director’s cut of the true crime classic which reached #1 on the charts when it was first released half a dozen years ago. Season 1 - The Burden In the 1990s, Detective Louis N. Scarcella was legendary. In a city overrun by violent crime, he cracked the toughest cases and put away the worst criminals. “The Hulk” was his nickname. Then the story changed. Scarcella ran into a group of convicted murderers who all say they are innocent. They turned themselves into jailhouse-lawyers and in prison founded a lway firm. When they realized Scarcella helped put many of them away, they set their sights on taking him down. And with the help of a NY Times reporter they have a chance. For years, Scarcella insisted he did nothing wrong. But that’s all he’d say. Until we tracked Scarcella to a sauna in a Russian bathhouse, where he started to talk..and talk and talk. “The guilty have gone free,” he whispered. And then agreed to take us into the belly of the beast. Welcome to The Burden.
