Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hell no, it's time for another special features.
Speaker 2 (00:42):
Hey guys, what's going on?
Speaker 1 (00:43):
You are listening to special coverage here on this week
in geek dot Net. I am Mike the Berghan, but
I'm not alone, as I'm joined by my panel of
very sleep deprived people who watched the twenty twenty five
Game Awards from the city of Kitchener, Ontario, Canada, Ix
(01:04):
the producer, and of course from the Great Garden state
of New Jersey.
Speaker 3 (01:09):
Ken from this in May. And I am not tired
because I actually had to work.
Speaker 4 (01:13):
So well, well fuck you're you You're still on your
normal schedule.
Speaker 2 (01:18):
Yeh yeah, this was obviously last night.
Speaker 1 (01:22):
We were talking about the twenty twenty five Game Awards,
hosted by goff Or Jeff Keely along with his production
team always puts on a show around the first or
second week of December. People from the game and community
come on out, whether they be influencers, developers, just people
in that space. And last night's Game Awards, just to
(01:44):
give my quick initial thoughts aggressively mid and that's not
a bad thing. It wasn't a bad show. In fact,
I thought it was quite good. It just I didn't
have the wow factor that I wanted. So I'll throw
it over to you guys, and let's let's have a discussion.
Speaker 4 (02:03):
I think where you see that, because if I looked
at it from a completely objective viewpoint, I think this
is one of the best that they've ever had in
terms of how it was run, how school it was
only one speech went overtime, and it was because of
a miscommunication basically with all the French people accepting awards.
(02:26):
They didn't they started playing one person off not knowing
that the other person was going to say something because
they because they were struggling to get their speech out
in English.
Speaker 2 (02:34):
Right, yeah, and they were nervous.
Speaker 4 (02:36):
Yeah, obviously, And and but it wasn't like a big deal.
It was only off by like maybe a minute. And
if you know, the overrun was only till eleven oh five,
not like eleven thirty like it sometimes happens.
Speaker 3 (02:49):
Yeah, it was only like five minutes.
Speaker 4 (02:51):
So and so that's you take that into accounts. That
would be the few speeches that maybe went over their timing.
But beyond that, they show a lot of really good
interesting things, a lot of good surprises. But I think
where your hit mic is there was no first party
support from any studio.
Speaker 2 (03:08):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (03:08):
I mean, one thing I didn't know is technical Plata
made a really big bid though.
Speaker 4 (03:14):
Well what I mean is like the Housemark game was there,
but there wasn't anything new from Sony, Microsoft or Nintendo.
Speaker 2 (03:24):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (03:24):
One thing I want to say before Ken makes his
point is I noticed the advertising this year was not
as aggressive like if you guys remember several years ago
we had blah blah blah brought to you by a
stick bot and I don't know, ball deodorizer by Manscape.
There was no overly aggressive advertising this year, which was
(03:45):
a very big change.
Speaker 3 (03:46):
I would probably blame the way the US economy is
right now and advertising budget is slashed all across the board.
Speaker 4 (03:56):
Yeah, I think it's more likely that they were charging
it was it two or three million for every minute
of advertising yep, So yeah, it's they're almost at Super
Bowl levels right now, not like the big Super Bowl,
but like you know, like the smaller commercials. That's because
last year they had like one hundred and fifty million viewers,
(04:17):
so this is the highest ad rate they've ever had.
But also the ads that they did have was like Microsoft,
I would started timing Microsoft for their game Pass ad
was like two or three minutes long. So they spent
like five million dollars on one ad and they probably
figured that was more worth it to them to try
to get people on Game Pass than it was to
(04:37):
advertise any actual games they have coming, because if you notice,
they don't really have any They.
Speaker 3 (04:41):
Announced, well, no, they announced the Diablo expansion. That's about it.
Speaker 4 (04:46):
Yeah, Well, what I meant was like under the Microsoft
Studios banner, like you know, like the Xbox Studios, like,
because everything was either canceled or delayed or like where
now we're a couple of years away from Forrest at
this point, Fable I thought would show something, but they're
not ready.
Speaker 1 (05:06):
See, I thought that was the Larian thing, Like I thought, like,
is that Fable?
Speaker 4 (05:13):
I guess it was. You could have thought that until
part way through. We'll get to that though after Like yeah,
I would say Mike that the big thing with this
was very little support from Sony first party outside of
what was already announced, just with like expanded trailer. Almost
nothing from Microsoft, well, nothing for Microsoft proper, nothing from
(05:37):
Activision for under them, just the Blizzard parsion and Bethesda
had nothing except Todd Howard showing up and didn't even
talk about the Fallout TV show.
Speaker 1 (05:48):
Yeah, that's something I was definitely going to bring up
because we are a week out from Fallout. The Fallout
cast has been all over media in the last week.
Speaker 2 (05:57):
Because I pay attention to and I usually get follow
and stuff.
Speaker 3 (06:00):
Early this year it was on Amazon.
Speaker 4 (06:03):
Yeah, Amazon was was a big corporate sponsor of this.
They even did a bunch of ads like on other
platforms to advertise that it was going to be on
here to not have that as one of their flagship shows,
not to have any advertising whatever. But we'll get into
that as we go. But like I see where you're
coming from if you look at it from an outsider's look,
(06:25):
like if you don't think of the three tent pole
big companies, this was the most consistent. Yes, they're gonna
have a lot of the the the free to play
Chinese and Korean kind of garbage stuff. But it wasn't
quite as bad I feel this year as it was,
like you said, previous years, they weren't. There wasn't like.
Speaker 3 (06:44):
There was like, what was three of those and one
of them and one of them I found out was
a gotcha game that got that removed all the gotcha
from it exactly?
Speaker 4 (06:55):
And was it last year where they had the commercial
for the mobile game where they hired like every famous
actor to be in it, and we were like, what
the hell was this garbage? And then I think it
came out and nobody played it. Yeah, so yeah, like,
I mean, we may as well before we go any
further talk about the winners, because we've already done. If
(07:16):
you go back and listen to our predictions or what
we thought should have.
Speaker 3 (07:18):
Won, go listen to our three hour.
Speaker 4 (07:23):
Yeah, because in that one we also went over like
what our personal picks were and then what we thought
was going to win. So we won't necessarily compare that.
We're going to go basically rapid fire through the winners
and say whether or not we agree with it or
if it was expected right, and the I just grabbed
the order from a couple of different websites put it
and it's not in the order that they were given
out necessarily, it's just here's the orders that are available.
(07:46):
So Best Performance went to Jennifer English for Expedition thirty
three that as I believe, what we sort of expected
to happen.
Speaker 3 (07:53):
Yeah, that was.
Speaker 4 (07:55):
Just because it's sort of time if you.
Speaker 3 (07:58):
Have played Expert Edition thirty three, you know Jen English
was going to win.
Speaker 4 (08:03):
Yeah, and she's still fairly young, is in like her career.
She's only been doing voice acting since like twenty seventeen,
and she she's not like somebody who's been in a
lot of other productions or even done commercials. But if
you notice, she's being pegged for like a ton of
game trailers and commercials. I think her next big thing
is was it Tides of Annihilation? That's that that cool
(08:24):
looking like Devil May Cry meets meets like Eldon sort
of looking game that we saw.
Speaker 3 (08:31):
Yeah, I know she's got a great flip and voice. Man.
Speaker 1 (08:36):
Oh yeah, so it's it's She seemed also super genuine
too in her acceptance. Like that's one thing I will
say throughout the entire night, everybody from the Claire team
very genuine, very French, but very genuine in there.
Speaker 4 (08:51):
Very very French and very British. That's basically it.
Speaker 2 (08:54):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (08:54):
I don't think that there was anybody. Wait, maybe Andy
Serk this is the only one that might not be Like,
he wasn't there. I think he was the only major
person that wasn't there because he's probably off filming like
ten movies. Yeah, but yeah, so I mean it was
it was good. And then again maybe because she's fairly
(09:15):
young in her career, like did she win a couple
of years ago ago for Boulder Skate three?
Speaker 2 (09:21):
Who was she in boulders Skate three?
Speaker 4 (09:22):
Shadow Shadow Hurt?
Speaker 2 (09:24):
Generally?
Speaker 4 (09:25):
Yeah, so I think these are like, like the game works,
these are the only major awards she's ever won, So
it's still like it's still like a big deal for her.
So yeah, Best ongoing game, No Man's Sky I think
that was. That's pretty much a no brainer, really, right.
Speaker 1 (09:43):
Yeah, that game has really turned itself around in like
the almost a decade that's been since it's been out.
Speaker 2 (09:50):
Honestly surprised.
Speaker 4 (09:52):
Basically, it and Shovel Night were like the little games
that could mm hmm best No.
Speaker 3 (09:58):
Man Sky started off, you know, yeah situation.
Speaker 4 (10:02):
Yeah, and and somehow it's sort of like like the
cyberpunk thing, just on a much smaller budget scale. Right,
but still, what the the hype was the same, and
it's done so well. Best mobile game the what was it?
Speaker 3 (10:15):
The pretty Derby.
Speaker 4 (10:17):
I've never ever heard that. I don't even know what
it is.
Speaker 3 (10:20):
It is, it is gotcha horse Girls.
Speaker 4 (10:24):
Okay, so no, okay, it's it's what I figured then anyway,
uh not for us and I and I had no
idea what was gonna win. I only I remember we
picked like Persona.
Speaker 3 (10:34):
I knew it was going to win simply because it
was zeitgeist as all hell and.
Speaker 4 (10:40):
It was hit. Was it hitting all like the socials
that we don't follow sort of thing?
Speaker 3 (10:44):
Yeah, yeah, pretty much. And also it was one of
it was just one of those mobile games where it's
like it also came to Steam.
Speaker 4 (10:52):
And it just and and it hit with like all
the gen.
Speaker 3 (10:56):
Z kids yeah, and and some of the older millennials,
some of the younger millennial. Yes, whatnot.
Speaker 4 (11:05):
I feel it's it's more it's probably more of a
younger person's game.
Speaker 3 (11:11):
Yeah. It's also just one of those situations where it's like,
if you're if you don't like games that are sold
on its cuteness, you're going to hate it, hate it.
Speaker 4 (11:25):
Okay, well then so it hit hit very well with
its audience. Yeah, best art direction. Claire screed. This is
the one where I said it could have gone to
a bunch of different games, because every game nominated was good.
But I mean expedition makes sense late eighteen hundreds of
French Parisian oil painting Renaissance, not Renaissance but Baroke era
(11:45):
or not broke what do you call it? The new
dreaming whatever was for the art, Yeah, it makes it
made sense. Score of music? Was it ever in any
question that it was going to be claib scar like
as much as all these games have good soundtracks.
Speaker 3 (11:59):
And chance and yeah and so it did still yeah, yeah, but.
Speaker 4 (12:08):
I mean they opened the show that was they've never
done with a musical performance performance of.
Speaker 1 (12:14):
Which I thought was really well done. Like I didn't
know what this was from. I had to look at
because I was watching this with our friend Liam. I
was like, what the hell is this? He's like, oh,
it is that Claire game, Like oh needs yeah.
Speaker 4 (12:25):
And and by the way, the guitar player guy that
that you know won the award and all that, because
you haven't really followed this is his first project ever, wow,
and like he's never recorded an album before. He recorded
a bunch of songs and demos and had him on
like SoundCloud and somebody that was a fan of the
(12:46):
demos that Claire Obscurer was was doing in their discord said,
why don't you check out this guy Because they weren't
sure they had they would have the budget for somebody
to make their music. They contacted him and he made
like eighty songs wow, and like all basically everything, and
then had the lady that was singing. There was the
woman who sings on the songs on the game. The
(13:07):
only person they didn't have was I forget his name.
You'll probably know him, can the guy that did the singing.
He was also doing the Devil May Cry songs and stuff.
Speaker 3 (13:14):
Yeah. There for the record, the claar Up's You're soundtrack
has uh like one hundred and okay for something tracks.
Speaker 4 (13:29):
Yeah, Like like basically it's like what if he took
somebody who had never worked on a major project before
and asked him if you could do it? He said yes,
And then he turned out to be uh like Umatsu
doing Final Fantasy soundtracks like right off the bat. Yeah,
uh you know, obviously big deal for him, and he
was you can see it that opening. He was a
(13:50):
little nervous. He was playing a solo a little too fast.
It's like I was watching.
Speaker 3 (13:54):
More comfortable playing the solo than he was. Accepting the award.
Speaker 4 (13:58):
Though, yeah. Once once, once he got in the zone,
I was like, okay, you know, uh, you know, van
Halen slowed down a little bit. You're you're speeding up
your solo because again, he's not ever played in front
of crowds. He's literally a dude that recorded at his home.
Speaker 3 (14:14):
He's just some schmuck in a basement.
Speaker 4 (14:17):
Yeah, which is awesome. So we'll see what. Yeah, I
hope he gets hired for like other stuff, like I
hope so yeah, yeah, anyway, I mean he's obviously going
to work with like he will be loyal to Standfal
forever now you know that. Yeah, But but I hope
that like not just other indies. I hope that somebody,
like I don't know, you know, a newbie soft for
somebody pegs him for other projects that are made in France,
(14:40):
like him doing think of him doing like a Prince
of Persia soundtrack really cool.
Speaker 2 (14:47):
Man Assassin's Creed too.
Speaker 4 (14:49):
Yeah, like he could totally pull up like he has
the chops. Anyway, best audio design Battlefield. I had a
feeling it was going to go to that, but it
could have gone to anyone because a lot of those
games had good sound design.
Speaker 2 (15:02):
Really, I mean really stats category honestly.
Speaker 3 (15:04):
Yeah, yeah, it was solid.
Speaker 4 (15:07):
VR ar Midnight Walk one, which is the one I picked.
But I only picked it because it was the only
game I played, because it was the only one that
I could play that didn't require higher end VR equipment.
Speaker 3 (15:17):
Right, That's probably why it won.
Speaker 4 (15:20):
Because it was the only one that not only could
be played on like PSVR two, but also I think
that might be the only one on that list. Don't
quote me, but it might be the only one that
was still available on like Medaquest two like I have,
m hm. And also you could play it completely separately,
just on PS five. So that's probably why best adaptation last.
Speaker 2 (15:41):
Us to no contest.
Speaker 4 (15:44):
But it was also the most controversial because there was
no there was no Sonic three. Where was Sonic three?
Speaker 1 (15:51):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, you're right, Minecraft Movie. I mean, I
don't know who would have even accepted. I guess Jason Momo.
Speaker 4 (15:59):
Is there, it would have been, it would have been
Momoa probably accepting it. But yeah, I mean it makes sense.
Best narrative Claire Skirt, Yes, yeah, I know some people
were some people were like, oh, you know, there's other
heavy hitters here that really and and I mean this
is maybe.
Speaker 3 (16:18):
The first maybe Silent Hill f.
Speaker 4 (16:20):
But yeah, but is this the first time that we've
seen uh Kojima at the event? But he didn't present
an award or win an award.
Speaker 2 (16:32):
Yeah, he was just there hanging out because he was just.
Speaker 4 (16:36):
I mean, he was nominated for a few categories, he
didn't win any. It's not surprising because I think a
lot of people forgot the game exists, even the critics, right.
Speaker 3 (16:48):
I don't.
Speaker 4 (16:48):
I know.
Speaker 3 (16:49):
I know the guys at Giant Bomb are going to
be talking about it for their Game of the Year obviously,
but it kind of just came and went. Yeah and
it it's also death straining too. It's a sequel to
a game where everyone bought the first one, but we're
(17:11):
iffy about it.
Speaker 4 (17:12):
And it also came out within the time that Clear
Obscure was still being like dominating all over social media. Yeah,
so best community support pulis Kate three makes sense because
uh no brain honestly didn't they put out like a
big final Last Turra thing where the gave a whole
bunch of.
Speaker 3 (17:33):
Yeah stupid patch.
Speaker 2 (17:34):
Yeah, they added a bunch of subclasses.
Speaker 1 (17:36):
They also they're ongoing support for mods on console n PC,
is outstand. The fact that consoles are really seeing real
significant support is amazing and lariyan.
Speaker 2 (17:50):
If there's a problem, okay, yeah, we'll fix it. Cool.
Speaker 3 (17:53):
Like they're they're they had more money than God.
Speaker 4 (17:57):
Now they're the independent studio that made enough that they
and they they know from other independent studio's mistakes like
CDPR what not to do and what not to promise.
Yep uh games for impact. South of Midnight it could
have been anything. I get it. It was, you know,
basically get why.
Speaker 3 (18:15):
I get why South of Midnight given the fact that
it lost the award I thought it should have won.
Speaker 4 (18:21):
And yeah, it's also the it's the trauma dump category.
It's like, let's work through our let's let's help you
work through your issues. The game is basically what wins
usually here. Yeah, best multiplayer art. Did I think we
said it could have been that because.
Speaker 3 (18:37):
I immediately said it because of this geist, but also
a lot of people it came out probably once voting
was closed, that it has a bunch of AI shit
in it.
Speaker 1 (18:50):
Yeah so, but isn't that only for some of the
reactive voice lines, which isn't.
Speaker 2 (18:55):
So bad, It's not awful, but it's but it's not God.
Speaker 4 (19:01):
It didn't need to be there, considering they already had
a big enough budget to hire, like you could have
hired a voice actor for five grand to just belt
out a bunch of different voices and have it done with,
you know what I mean. Yeah, So that's probably where
the the issue comes in. Best Independent Clarik Spear, Best
Best Debut Clarip Skeer. It's funny that Jeff never did
(19:22):
put a fifth game in to replace Megabunk, which he
said he was going to, and he just never did,
probably because it was already clear at that point that
nothing else was ever going to win.
Speaker 2 (19:32):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (19:32):
Yeah, uh, Content Creator of the Year, Most Critical.
Speaker 3 (19:36):
It makes sense, Yeah, Charlie having a good year.
Speaker 4 (19:40):
And it's also it's also one of the few people
that I think the general public, just through scrolling through
their their feeds would have probably recognized, yeah, if you're
outside of the bubble of the other streamers. So, uh,
most anticipated game was GTA? Was it ever going to
be anything else? Like? No, if GTA had come out
(20:04):
this year, you would have had a chance to have it.
Maybe it would have been between Witcher and it would
have been Wolverine, one of those yeah, but there was
no chance, Like I mean, Wolverine was my pick. But
it's only because like I don't have to be anticipate,
like GT doesn't have to be anticipated for me, because
when it happens the force of nature, I'm not. I'm
not anticipating whether.
Speaker 3 (20:24):
Everyone or not everyone's going to play.
Speaker 4 (20:26):
It, and even me, like I don't play those games
that much against to fool around with. I think I'll
probably give it a full, you know, full try. But yeah,
best action adventure, HOLI night. It could have been I
this was a path category.
Speaker 3 (20:41):
Two action the way action adventure is. I think Silk
Song deserves that because it's more of an adventure game.
Speaker 4 (20:51):
With the exploration of the backtracking and all that exactly.
And there was it was the the category that Zelda
would win if there had been a Zelda. Yes when uh,
best role playing Clark Spirit it it could have it
could have been Kingdom Come if they wanted to, like,
if they wanted.
Speaker 3 (21:09):
To give something to them.
Speaker 4 (21:10):
Yeah, but it makes sense. Best fighting game, the only
new fight, only actual.
Speaker 3 (21:16):
Fight, the only real choice fully out. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (21:20):
Yeah, because two xcale is like, still isn't that still beta?
Speaker 2 (21:23):
Yes?
Speaker 3 (21:23):
It is, it is.
Speaker 2 (21:24):
I think it comes still until next month.
Speaker 3 (21:27):
Yeah, at the end at probably like mid January, I
think is when the season zero ends. I forget when
season zero.
Speaker 4 (21:36):
It was likely it was like at least by like
the twentieth or twenty sixth or something. I think they
said the consoles drop.
Speaker 3 (21:41):
Yeah, yeah, and it makes we will we I will
comment on the announcement of the character because people.
Speaker 4 (21:49):
Are pissed because it looks like storm.
Speaker 3 (21:52):
No, because Caitlin is the lamest fucking choice.
Speaker 4 (21:56):
Okay, I have no idea, but yes, uh to me,
this made the most logical sense because there would be
people mad if.
Speaker 2 (22:07):
If Mortal Kombat won anything murder.
Speaker 4 (22:10):
And and and as cool as Marvel or sorry as
Capcom collection is.
Speaker 3 (22:16):
It's a collection.
Speaker 4 (22:18):
Yeah, it's not new new new, like if there was,
if if Fatal Fear.
Speaker 2 (22:23):
Were significantly hands ports maybe.
Speaker 4 (22:26):
Yeah, but like we we actually it's like we had
a triple a budget new game. It should be the
one that won based on the fact that even if
the player base maybe isn't as fervent now, it was
like I remember it reviewed well when it came out, right, so.
Speaker 2 (22:42):
I bought it.
Speaker 1 (22:43):
I mean, if Invincible Verses had come out this year
maybe or Marvel Token.
Speaker 2 (22:48):
But obviously this was a solid pick.
Speaker 4 (22:51):
But next you know, think about this for next year. Dude,
we got token, you got uh uh and you got the.
Speaker 2 (22:59):
Token is here?
Speaker 3 (23:00):
Isn't probably going to be out because it's not a
part of EVO. No, yeah, I's gonna be fall.
Speaker 4 (23:09):
It was No if it comes out, it might still
come out before the cutoff for next year, right, yeah,
so if it does, you're gonna have that plus the
Avatar game. There's gonna be at least three fighting games.
Speaker 3 (23:19):
And trust me, I've seen the Avatar game. Oh man,
that's gonna juice it.
Speaker 4 (23:27):
Yeah. Innovation, sorry, best action game Hades two. That was
either gonna be Hades two or or Ninja Gaiden. It
was gonna be one of the y Ye Shoby would
have been cool though, Yeah, but I figured, yeah, I
think this was. If you were to look at the votes,
I'll bet you it was very close, close between Hades
and and Ninja Guiden.
Speaker 2 (23:48):
Yeah, safe bet though.
Speaker 4 (23:51):
Innovation and accessibility was Doom because they made a Doom
game Alex could play. You see.
Speaker 3 (23:59):
I still I still think South I still think South
of Midnight should have won this.
Speaker 4 (24:04):
It was one it was one of those two honestly. Yeah,
but at least Microsoft is now taking accessibility accessibility seriously.
Speaker 1 (24:13):
Yeah, even though they cut their accessibility team by like.
Speaker 4 (24:17):
Quiet I know, I know, I know.
Speaker 3 (24:20):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (24:21):
The Best Family Game was was also known as the
Nintendo Award that Doug Bowser picks up during the pre
show every year. And this was probably so he can leave.
Speaker 3 (24:32):
So he can leave.
Speaker 4 (24:36):
This is probably the last thing we'll ever see him
in public unless they do a Nintendo direct where they
he was never so he wouldn't do that. They'll probably
release a blog thing on Nintendo site where they have
a picture of him with with a cake of Bowser
you know thing congrats, you know, happy retirement.
Speaker 3 (24:56):
Like a good bye good bye.
Speaker 4 (24:59):
But reality is he's not retiring. He was pushed out
because he botched some of the launches of different things
in how the marketing, Like he wasn't pushy enough to
like Reggie to get Japan on board with how you
need to market to the West, and he was kind
of a pushover during that. And look what happened. Almost
all of the press around the switch to launch was negative.
(25:22):
And that's that's why he's gone. Realistically, and he doesn't
want to stick around for another couple of years, and
they're looking for a reason to change things up and
then tell their shareholders, well, we fixed the problem by
changing management, even though they're the ones that were in
charge for your things. Yeah, but yeah, Best SIM Strategy Game,
final fan texts. I actually don't agree with this as
(25:44):
much as I really liked it, and I do say
it's a great game. I think this is another category
where it should be at brand new game like SIEV.
Speaker 2 (25:51):
Yeah, that's where I thought it was going to be.
Speaker 4 (25:53):
Actually, Like, I don't think that remasters that aren't substantial,
complete like reimagining, like you know, fully from the ground up,
completely new, should be there. I don't think that remasters
or enhanced remasters should be in the category. And that's
why I've said I think there should be a separate
category just for that. But that's not to say that
(26:14):
it's not a great game and it deserves an award.
It does. It's a great game. But yeah, best Sports
Mark Kurt World shouldn't have won. Bullshit, that was if
you heard them when they're barely any cheers until after
it won, and then like and then like Doug Bowser, whoever,
was still there, stared at the crowd and made them clap.
It should have been sonic.
Speaker 2 (26:35):
Yeah, that's kind of what I was figuring too.
Speaker 4 (26:39):
But whatever sports game counter Strike two.
Speaker 1 (26:42):
That surprises me only because League pours so much stupid
money in the tournaments, and I feel like we're in
a very specific sports niche counter Strike is just it's for.
Speaker 2 (26:57):
Like old, super hardcore players.
Speaker 4 (26:59):
But is two actually attracting young players?
Speaker 3 (27:04):
Two? Is my brother watches Counterstrike tournament stuff.
Speaker 4 (27:09):
Okay, because like I told Ken Mike when I when
we were recording before the for the pre show thing
or for the predictions, that like, I'm from the era
when you had to mod your game to make it
into counter strikes. That's what I played, like like the
pre Steam, pre Source pre all that work, where literally
(27:30):
it's like, hey, download these packs that take forever to download,
and then copy them over and now you have your
own moded game that you know turned out to be
counter Like that's how we did like Blue Shift and
all that stuff back in the day. So like, that's
that's from when I was playing. I haven't played counter
Strike in like twenty some odd years or more, but yeah,
I mean cool esports athlete Chovy. I don't know who
(27:52):
that is.
Speaker 2 (27:53):
Yeah, no idea.
Speaker 4 (27:55):
Congrats to them. Best estports team Team Vitality. It was
just counter strike, which makes sense. It goes hand in
hand with the esports game. Yeah. Player's Voice, also known
as the Chinese government unblocks the firewall so that everybody
can vote, and then they lock them up again category
because every yet, every year, it's a flood of players
(28:16):
from China the vote every year and they don't normally
have access to the wide Web. It has come out
in past years that they will actually unblock certain sites
to let them vote and then block it up because
they they view this award as a marketing wing. Yeah.
So it was almost guaranteed that this was either going
(28:37):
to be claar obscure if it was considered you know,
normal people.
Speaker 3 (28:42):
People were loud enough.
Speaker 4 (28:43):
Yeah, but this is it's always the Chinese gotcha game
to Lise.
Speaker 3 (28:49):
Essentially, if they stopped putting the Chinese Gotcha game in
the freaking category, maybe we stop having to give it
to them.
Speaker 4 (28:58):
Yeah, but whatever it's not, it doesn't really matter. Best
game direction, uh claripscear. This could have been the one
that could have gone to Kojim or somebody else could
have gone good. It could have even gone to Yota
because it's about the cohesive direction. And there were moments
in Claibscar where a few moments here and there where
(29:19):
it the the inexperience of the leadership team to do
the direction of it was more apparent, where like in
many moments, it feels like a triple A game, and
then there's moments where you're like, oh, okay, I can
see where you see yeah, where you're like, okay, this
could have been tightened up, or this this shot or
how they presented it, or the pacing was a little tiny,
(29:40):
but it's very It.
Speaker 3 (29:42):
Will make sand Falls next game look fucking fantastic.
Speaker 4 (29:45):
Yeah, but so so I could see why this won.
But obviously I could have seen that one go to
something else Game of the Year. If it had gone
to anything else, you would have had audible gasps. Oh yeah,
So obviously Claripskier.
Speaker 3 (29:58):
I mean probably this is probably one of the harshest sweeps.
Speaker 1 (30:02):
Like I won every category but one, which was player's voice.
Speaker 4 (30:07):
Players were also lost the sound one. Oh okay, yeah,
I thought I think it was nominated for twelve and
it won nine.
Speaker 2 (30:15):
I see, I heard ten, but I'm not sure.
Speaker 4 (30:18):
I think it was also up for where it was
it was something. Yeah, it won. It basically lost a
couple but yeah, I.
Speaker 3 (30:27):
Think I think I think it was in the category
of audio design.
Speaker 4 (30:32):
Yeah, I'm pretty sure that was. The other one was
the audio design one, which I don't think it should
have won because I did have occasional issues with the
sound balancing, where like the music was too loud, yeah,
too quiet, that sort of stuff, and it was not
as easy to dial in as I would have liked.
But yeah, that was But that that's where you have
issues with, not the budget, it's it's the it goes
(30:52):
back into the production in the game direction, where there
may be a little off on figuring those things out.
But anyway, uh, they won. And what did they do.
They went up and announced that that that free patch.
They talked about where's going to drop rate them and
now there's a photo mode, which I say, for you, Michael,
there's a photo a photo mode, a new DLC island
(31:13):
with new enemies and stuff that's completely new. So basically
like a free short small expansion, some extra super hard bosses.
They added several more languages, to the game. It's got
like sixteen languages or nineteen whatever. It is basically language
every language that for every country that has Steam can
basically play it. So they did all that stuff and
(31:36):
that's free. And that's another thing. It's like, okay, Larim
doing free stuff, sand Faal doing free stuff. Maybe we're
going to see more of that ship from from these
like medium budget studios doing that stuff.
Speaker 3 (31:47):
The next the next thing to expect from sand Fall
is to see if they can get it on switch to.
Speaker 4 (31:53):
Oh that that's probably gonna at this point, you know,
seeing all this, whomever is that Nintendo is going to say, hey,
you know, can we get something? And can we They
not that they were put like a Nintendo character in it.
They might do like a little jokey thing, but I
could see them getting it. It'll probably be a key card,
unless unless they are adamant about doing a full version
(32:15):
that doesn't require a key card. But I could see
them putting a couple of stickers in it or whatever,
having a switch to edition, you know something or other.
They could totally do that. We'll see what their next
game is going to be, because now you're going to
see people willing to do Angel investments for funding projects
for them, probably more, not that they need it with
the money that they're probably getting on the back end,
but they're going to have. If anything, it's going to
(32:39):
help them with their with their publisher, like to get
better international distribution deals so that when their next game
comes out, you don't have to wait seven or eight
months for a physical edition to come out. Yeah. But anyway,
that was the you know, the winners, Uh, celebrity wise,
as we mentioned, they had a few performances Evanescence, which
(33:00):
looked up and I forgot that Amy Lee was like
nineteen when that first album, so she's still pretty young.
Speaker 3 (33:06):
Yeah, I'm actually I'm I'm literally thinking of like because
they're playing uh one of the big venues here in
Jersey in June, and I'm thinking, hmmm, I might.
Speaker 2 (33:21):
I mean I could go. That'd be forget amazing.
Speaker 3 (33:23):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (33:23):
Yeah, I looked at but stay you, Mike, Like she's
still forty four.
Speaker 2 (33:26):
Wow.
Speaker 4 (33:27):
Yeah, she was like very young when that first album dropped.
Speaker 3 (33:30):
Oh, she still has a fucking she's one of the
best vocalists in rock music.
Speaker 4 (33:36):
And as she ages, like she's say ages that sounds bad,
but you know what I mean, as she's getting older
and maturing, she's reminding me of uh, I forget the
singer from heart uh where like she could. She's in
her fifties, sixties, she still had the pipes all the
way through and she's still Yeah.
Speaker 3 (33:50):
I would I would say it's between her and Pink
as some of the best who.
Speaker 4 (33:55):
Could still go yeah you know that that they their
voices haven't aged really at all, so that they they
did a performance that was that was for what was
it was for the.
Speaker 3 (34:06):
That was for yeah. It was the only good thing
about that Devil May Cry show was the song when we.
Speaker 4 (34:13):
Were watching here here my brother and Maco, Oh, that's
that's for that show that nobody likes.
Speaker 2 (34:22):
Who get.
Speaker 3 (34:25):
It's Virgil fucking fan fiction is what it is.
Speaker 2 (34:28):
Well, tell me how you really feel?
Speaker 4 (34:31):
And again I haven't seen it, so I was like, oh,
this music's pretty good. So had that. Obviously they had
the performance at the beginning for the people that for
Claire Spear.
Speaker 5 (34:40):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (34:40):
Lenny Kravitz is the main bad guy in the Double
A seven game.
Speaker 2 (34:45):
What he's a henchman at best?
Speaker 3 (34:48):
Oh no, come on, Lenny Kravitz has enough charisma to beat.
Speaker 4 (34:53):
You need to be like over the top. He's he's not.
He he has a good look. He can look cool
and smarmy and sex. He doesn't have like menace. Yeah,
I don't get that from him. But we'll wait and
see how it turns up in the game.
Speaker 3 (35:06):
I mean like when they announced when I was like, oh, cool, Lenny.
I like Lenny Kravitz. I think he's an actually decent actor.
When he gets when he wants stuff.
Speaker 4 (35:18):
And he's he's like, yeah, he's still he's got the presence.
I did laugh that. You know, he comes out with
the shirt that looks like the tattoos from the game
wearing it. Yeah, so that that was that was kind
of fun. But like you had him dudes.
Speaker 3 (35:32):
In his dudes in his sixties. He no, yeah, he
ain't gonna he ain't gonna go shirtless.
Speaker 4 (35:38):
Oh he his last album that came out a few
years ago. I saw music video when I was scrolling through,
and you see like a fair bit in there that
you wouldn't necessarily expect. It's a very European music video,
I'll say that. But when they announced that like a
father son acting deal, I was like, oh God, please
(35:59):
don't be will Smith and it wasn't. It was Jeffrey
Wright and.
Speaker 3 (36:02):
I didn't I didn't even realize his son was playing
the young version of him.
Speaker 4 (36:06):
Yeah, hard to die, like all right cool. When he
showed up, I was like, I could pitpoint it. I
was like, oh, it's people's from from the Shaft movie
with Samuel Jackson.
Speaker 2 (36:16):
I knew.
Speaker 3 (36:17):
Seriously. Yeah, but like once Dispatch hits consoles, which will
probably be next year, highly recommend.
Speaker 4 (36:25):
Okay, definitely the man. I'm trying to think. There were
other there was like j j Abrals showed up and
he's the size of an elf. I didn't realize how
short he was.
Speaker 3 (36:35):
Oh yeah, he's a short, motherfucker short case.
Speaker 4 (36:39):
He showed up, show off a game that I don't
think no interest it was.
Speaker 1 (36:45):
That's the one where it was like the Left for
Dead guy right where you have to.
Speaker 3 (36:49):
It's another it's another Left for Dead, like Left for
Dead stop with the Left for Dead likes. Nothing is
going to beat Left for Dead period.
Speaker 4 (37:02):
It's ten years too late.
Speaker 3 (37:04):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (37:05):
And oh yeah, everybody from from the The Street Fighter
movie showed up.
Speaker 2 (37:11):
Yes, that was unexpected.
Speaker 3 (37:15):
I was, yeah, I didn't expect the entire cast to
show up.
Speaker 4 (37:21):
Yeah means and blah blah blah blah. Well, I guess
Fiddy said to the show up because he's he's trolling
did he so much on TV?
Speaker 3 (37:28):
So well, because he's got the number one thing, he's
got the number one movie on Netflix right now with
the documentary, just the biggest middle figure. He's having the
time of his God, dang.
Speaker 4 (37:41):
Never mess with a with a literally a self made
billionaire that is willing to take eight shots. You don't,
don't remind me not to piss him off. Get get
on Fiddy's good side. Yeah, yeah, so so petty that
when he goes to promote the documentary movie he purposely
(38:02):
picks a specific affiliate because he knew that that ABC
affiliate was one of the few channels that could be
broadcast in the prison. Where did he was? Yeah, it's
so petty, it's amazing.
Speaker 3 (38:16):
Oh, it's so I love it.
Speaker 4 (38:19):
I love it. This beats when he was like trolling
Floyd Mayweather with the ice bucket challenge and he's like,
I'll give donate fifty thousand dollars to any charity of
your choosing if you can read three paragraphs from any
Harry Potter book. Because Floyd notoriously, the rumor was that
he was illiterate because he chose he was. He chose
(38:40):
not to learn so he could just be a fighter. Okay,
So anyway, so yeah, so that off with that, like
that was weird. Mili Joviovich was one drunk you can
was There were a.
Speaker 3 (38:57):
Couple of There were a couple of people on stage
that were clearly drunk.
Speaker 4 (39:02):
I almost screamed because she's like, and the nominees are
and she opened it up like she was going to
read the winner, and I was like, oh, don't. She
was having a good time though. They were all having
a good time. Other celebrities, I can't think of anything
there wasn't like big big uh oh showed up.
Speaker 1 (39:18):
There was the guy Tommy from the Last of Us
so Gabriel Luna, which and to put him on the
pre show for less than thirty seconds that felt a
little bit slap in the facy that I didn't like well.
Speaker 4 (39:32):
And and David Harber is there to show off total war, total.
Speaker 3 (39:37):
War, total war. They are finally doing Warhammer forty k,
which is what everyone's been waiting for.
Speaker 4 (39:44):
And uh, we were chatting here in locally like how
come uh you know, uh, Superman wasn't there. And my
response immediately was because they didn't tell him, because if
they did, he would have accidentally spoiled it, like months ago. Yeah,
if he was told there was gonna be a Warhammer
forty K total war game coming up, you think he
would have been able to hide that shit.
Speaker 2 (40:05):
Yeah, Henry said something.
Speaker 4 (40:07):
For sure, he would have said something or shown up
there and they would have been like, stop, you're supposed
to be working on the show.
Speaker 2 (40:13):
No.
Speaker 4 (40:13):
I mean it's.
Speaker 3 (40:14):
Also really cool, but like it's really cool in the
last couple, like all the Warhammer major announcements this year
have been we've gotten fans to actually do this shit
now because we got Henry, David Harbor, who's a huge fan,
Alana Pierces a character in Bolt Gun and two like.
Speaker 4 (40:39):
And they're not they're not doing the thing that they
did for like the last fifteen years, which was Shotgun
Blast like thirty companies making thirty different low budget games
all at the same time. Yeah, there's like five good
productions all in rotation right now. Yeah, which is the
smart way to do it for a property like that.
(40:59):
But yeah, I can't think could you think of any
other any other major celebrities that showed up off the
top of your head, I can't, I think, I don't think.
I mean.
Speaker 3 (41:09):
Apart from Raoul, who was showing off.
Speaker 4 (41:11):
Yeah, yeah, he's showing off his game, Like, I don't
think that he he didn't go all out with the
Hollywood people as much this time.
Speaker 3 (41:18):
I mean, Raoul is not that kind of guy.
Speaker 4 (41:20):
Well, I think, well, I think maybe he's learned his
lesson from not having al Pacino accidentally show everybody that
he's got Alzheimer's on stage. Yeah, Like, and since then,
he's only had like one TV appearance at all in
the last two years. So it's like, maybe it wasn't
the best idea to have him out there. And I
think last year was Harrison Ford. So there wasn't like
(41:43):
that level of celebrity this time, which is probably smart,
like you have the right people for the right stuff, right.
I was thinking if they could have had anybody else,
I thought maybe they would have had McConaughey out again.
But nah, It's like, I don't think. I think the
reason we didn't see that many like big, big people
(42:04):
is again, there wasn't Microsoft. Wasn't there showing off a
Triple A title. Sony wasn't there showing off a brand
new Triple A title, and Nintendo doesn't really do this,
but you know what I mean, Like, there wasn't like big, big, big, big,
big huge shit being shown there outside of a few
big independent stuff. So I guess we can sort of
(42:26):
move on, right, So new game announcements. I'll preface this
by saying, this isn't every new announcement. This is every
new announcement that we personally care about. UH and fun.
Speaker 1 (42:37):
Yeah, the only one there are may be the only
one I don't see on your list here that I
want to mention is I think it's called.
Speaker 2 (42:45):
Mech audio or audio mech.
Speaker 1 (42:47):
I think it's called yeah, and it's done by the
same guys who did audio Surf. That caught my attention,
where you can use your music even integrated with streaming services. Yeah,
there's trouble bombs and all that shit. I fured you
guys would one of you guys would mention that. But
so I didn't include that. And obviously we'll preface it
by saying, we don't include uh for the most part,
(43:08):
unless it's something really outstanding. We don't include gotcha games.
We don't include mobile games. We don't include h Ho
ho yo yo yo yo yo money, we don't.
Speaker 4 (43:19):
Include that stuff. We don't include crypto games or not
that there's really much of that anymore, but we don't
include crypto stuff, and we don't include AI games that
are just purely which again I don't think he'd put
any of that on this time.
Speaker 3 (43:33):
But oh hell no, Jeff, Jeff, Jeff would get slaughtered
if he did that.
Speaker 4 (43:38):
Like he can take the money from somebody else instead,
you know what I mean, Like, yeah, so.
Speaker 3 (43:42):
You'd rather get the money from someone else.
Speaker 4 (43:44):
And we'll sort of I'll briefly go down the list
I had obviously, guys interject with your stuff. This is
in not really any particular order except for a couple
at the end, but like, it's the order of things
that surprised me. But I had mentioned previously that I
was wondering if who were finally going to see a
new Ace combat or if they had shut that down franchise,
because that outside of Teken, I don't think Namcobanda has
(44:09):
an internal Triple A game like US. Uh, you could
sort of count the Tails franchise, but that's never at
this kind of budget, Like.
Speaker 3 (44:16):
Yeah, Ace Combat is their franchise.
Speaker 4 (44:20):
Yeah, it's where they show off their next gen graphics engine.
Like as much as we love like Capcom has there,
yeah has like Capcom has the RI engine where they
they showcase like RI E nine is like, here's where
the newest of our engine is going. That's generally what
Ace Combat had been for the last twenty years with namcodes,
like here's what we're doing with our graphic tech.
Speaker 3 (44:41):
And also it like this the story sounds interesting. It's
like you're trying to pretend to be some dude that died.
Speaker 4 (44:50):
Yeah, Like like there's there's like a legit like outside
of the cockpit stuff going on, like there's a real
budget here, and their their characters look great. Uh, let's
be honest, Like, is Combat seven still looks good?
Speaker 3 (45:02):
Like, yeah, game looks amazing.
Speaker 4 (45:06):
So is Combat eight wings a thieve? Yeah that looks
kind of neat. Uh Bradley the Badger.
Speaker 2 (45:14):
Uh that looks neat if we yeah.
Speaker 4 (45:18):
That is conquer essentially.
Speaker 2 (45:21):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (45:21):
Basically I got a kick out.
Speaker 4 (45:24):
Of it when it when it said, uh badger born
at the beginning, I was like, oh my god.
Speaker 3 (45:30):
And then all but just going to I do want
to point this out that you didn't have it. Uh,
just going back to r E Engine and capcom Pragmata
got an actual rate dated.
Speaker 2 (45:42):
Yeah, that surprised me. And it switched to pork.
Speaker 3 (45:44):
And it's coming to switch to I obviously the ri
E Engine runs like immaculately on switch to and they're
so surprised or something.
Speaker 4 (45:53):
Isn't Also, the demos out today and then.
Speaker 3 (45:57):
And then yeah, demos out as of to day and
the rest of the rest of the consoles should be eventually.
Speaker 4 (46:07):
I didn't put that here because I think I put
I had this category as new game announcements. But yeah,
uh so, yeah, that that is a big deal, so
we should That's a good thing that you reminded everybody
about that. But yeah, Brad and the Badger, that looks
like it's gonna be fun.
Speaker 3 (46:19):
Oh easily.
Speaker 4 (46:22):
I just about had an aneurysm watching the Control two trailer.
Speaker 3 (46:27):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (46:28):
I was sitting here going and my brother's on my left.
He's like, so, what's the game about? And I went, uh,
I nolfunctioned, and I was like, I had, you know,
on the couch to the right of me was was
Matt And he goes, yeah, what is it about. I'm like, uh,
it's not that I don't want to tell you, it's
I don't do you have an hour and a half? Yeah,
(46:52):
because it was I said, you know, you know when
you watched Doom Patrol and they had the Bureau of Normalcy. Yeah, like,
it's it's the Bureau of Bureau of Normalcy plus the
X Files meets Norse mythology.
Speaker 3 (47:09):
And add and add a little bit of.
Speaker 6 (47:13):
Uh shoot Fringe, yes, Fringe yeah, and a little bit
of like Warehouse thirteen the Team.
Speaker 2 (47:23):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (47:24):
Yeah, it's like all that rolled into one. And then
as the trailer's going on, I'm like, okay, I'm like, wait,
you're playing as the brother and it's an action game now,
like like Devil.
Speaker 3 (47:34):
Makes Devil May Cry action game.
Speaker 4 (47:36):
Yeah, And I went I'm like, but wait a minute.
I thought that the Allen uh not Alan Make. I
thought that the Max Pain game was coming first. That
was the reboot of the original two Max Pain games,
where they're apparently going to be tying it more directly
into this this expanded universe. So apparently no, apparently Control
two has been like almost done. Yeah, it's coming out.
(47:57):
I think they said summertime I think is that the
goal is end of summer something like that. Is they
did exact date. I think they're gonna want to avoid
Grand Theft Auto.
Speaker 2 (48:06):
So yeah, that's true.
Speaker 4 (48:07):
Well, like maybe maybe in August or September release.
Speaker 3 (48:10):
There are a couple of games on that were announced
that said twenty twenty seven. I'm like, you try, you
are avoiding GTA six. You wanted to come out Fall
next year, but you pushed it.
Speaker 2 (48:22):
Yeah. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (48:25):
Control is weird enough and different enough. The audience is
different enough that I think it can withstand being around.
Oh yes, the same time, Uh, Coven of the Chicken Foot.
Speaker 3 (48:35):
Yeah, it looked that's cool. Interesting, Bobby the game, Yeah yeah,
Bobby Yaga in her golm.
Speaker 4 (48:44):
Yep, that's pretty much it. Uh Divinity, So it was
that the statue with the the effigy or whatever. Yeah,
ended up being for Divinity, which is both a soft
relaunch in that it's introducing the vast majority of the
new fans that were brought to Larry and through UH
(49:05):
through Baldersgate three to the world, but it is technically
in the same universe as the previous five games. I
think they did five or six. The first few Divinity's
are like early two thousands era, like top down Diablo
likes from that, that's the best way to describe them
from that area. And then they where they got where
(49:26):
Larry and got their fame was when they switched to
being a halfway between that and a turn based JRPG
with Original Sin one and two because those also hit consoles.
Speaker 3 (49:37):
Yea, those are and THEGS.
Speaker 4 (49:40):
Yeah yeah, and they and they like they have the
option to like literally like take your turn do. They're
like a hybrid between Final Fantasy and like Diablo. Uh.
And that's why they were they did well. And then
they got that license for Balderskate and now they're you know, Giant.
That is one of the coolest and also grossest trailers
I've ever seen.
Speaker 1 (49:59):
Oh yeah, random orgy and then a guy burning alive.
Speaker 4 (50:04):
I mean it's I mean it's streaming and screaming and
giggling with laughter as a man burns and his fleshes
ripped from his body.
Speaker 3 (50:10):
The videos age restricted on YouTube, if that makes any sense. Yeah, shocking,
no one.
Speaker 4 (50:16):
And then I saw a bunch of comments pop up.
It's like, well, I can see why they did best
Family Game of the pre show so Doug Baser could nope,
out not be associated. But because it's just like oh
and also that was cool where they're mixing like high
wire like oh yeah people effects with these Yeah, that
was like.
Speaker 3 (50:36):
They had they had that with the control stuff as well.
And it's like Jeff's getting his money's worth from this
exactly because that's expensive.
Speaker 4 (50:47):
Whatever Amazon paid for advertising and putting it on. Because
I'll tell you, Jeff didn't go to Amazon to have
this on here. This was Amazon coming to him to
get it on their platform. Uh, it was just a
cinematic thing. We're probably a couple of years away from
seeing really what it's like, so we'll see what the
gameplay is like. But uh, it's very clear they're not
(51:10):
being restricted by by you know, some publishers. An you
can't know, you can't do that.
Speaker 3 (51:16):
Yeah, anything they have, they have all the mothers they
possibly want.
Speaker 4 (51:23):
They have bathers Gate money, and and I believe the
production of their game was paid for by the early
access people first basically yes, and then they and then
they sold like ten million or more copies after all
their expenses were done.
Speaker 3 (51:39):
Yeah, and and like Divinity will also probably go into
early access at some point, hm, and they'll do the
same kind of spiel.
Speaker 4 (51:48):
Yeah, exactly, And and I think at this point we
can you can trust that their quality.
Speaker 3 (51:53):
Of work is going to be no doubt.
Speaker 4 (51:56):
What's wild is when they said that that they've admitted
that the game is going to be large than Balder's
G three okay, which is Balder Balderskate three. Chapters one
and two or Act one and two are the length
of a normal good RPG, and then Act three is
the Act three is bigger than the first two combined.
And you're like, what.
Speaker 2 (52:17):
That game still finding shit today?
Speaker 4 (52:20):
And they said they admitted it was like seventy two
hours of voiced recorded lines in that game. Yeah, and
they're saying it's gonna be more in this new one.
Is what has happened? Okay? You know, Alex will be
in his forties and I'll be like, you guys will
have to contact me and be like, Alex, make sure
you sleep because because otherwise I'm gonna be playing for
like six days straight and I'll just it's.
Speaker 3 (52:41):
Like an eight hundred The game is gonna be like
an eight hundred hour rpgah, And that's not a completionist run.
Speaker 4 (52:48):
Yeah, it realistically, it's probably gonna be one hundred and
fifty hours to beat for most people if if that's
what they're gonna do. But anyway, Gang of Dragon I
was like, first we were like watching, I'm like, okay,
so is it moved shed move forward?
Speaker 2 (53:03):
No?
Speaker 3 (53:03):
No? No.
Speaker 4 (53:04):
Then it's like no, and then I'm like, wait a minute.
Speaker 3 (53:06):
When I saw like when I saw Nagoshi, I was like, oh,
this is the this is Nagoshi's ten Cent money.
Speaker 4 (53:13):
I didn't recognize his his name because I wasn't as
big into it. But then I was like, oh, wait
a minute, is this the guy that left when they
decided to switch to j RPG style on on the
like of Dragon Games. He was the guy that did
the the action games all the way through six right.
Speaker 3 (53:31):
Yes, Nagoshi was the head of RGG. He left because
ten Cent gave him it dumped a truck ton of.
Speaker 4 (53:39):
Money at him, And that was right when they decided
to pivot the whole franchise to being mainly turn based. Yes,
I was like okay, and I was like, wait a minute,
So this is like what if Sega had tripled the
budget to make the characters look like at the level
of like Western facial animations in games.
Speaker 3 (53:59):
And you got uh, and you got Benedict Wang is
the that's not pretty sure.
Speaker 4 (54:04):
It's not him. It's a Korean actor. I looked him up.
He's from something else. Uh. If you're a listeners.
Speaker 3 (54:11):
Here, it's he sounded like Bennett Wang.
Speaker 4 (54:14):
It sounds like him, but that face is exactly that.
It's a South Korean actor from something else.
Speaker 3 (54:18):
Okay.
Speaker 4 (54:19):
Everybody online was like, it's better at wog It's like
and then it looked up as like, it's not it's
a guy who looks like him, but it's not cool.
Speaker 3 (54:27):
Yeah, So, I mean it looks it looks, it looks dope.
It looks like we're gonna get what if? What if
was a more of a heavy set dude.
Speaker 1 (54:37):
Yeah, I thought it was the guy from Hard Boiled,
but I realized that it's not.
Speaker 4 (54:41):
No, it's not he's but they a lot of people
were like, wait a minute, is it like gt A
that's yet to be seen because the fact that they're
showing him driving a car, is that just gonna be
a cutscene or is it literally them going to be
trying to make their own g t A. But in Japan,
kind of like sleeping dogs sort of thing, like yeah,
(55:01):
like what.
Speaker 3 (55:02):
Yeah, very it feels very sleeping dogs.
Speaker 1 (55:05):
Ass yeah, that's what I thought it was. I'm like,
is this I new sleeping dogs?
Speaker 4 (55:08):
Sleeping dogs or sleeping dogs stranglehold that sort of stuff
like it We'll see how it goes.
Speaker 1 (55:13):
Uh No, law, I thought this was like, if this
is the game that I think it is, this one
that gave me very much dying light vibes.
Speaker 4 (55:22):
If this is what I think, this is the one
where I believe you're you have the ability to kick people,
but it comes like straight out of the middle of
your chest.
Speaker 2 (55:29):
It looks like a nice yeah, very dying.
Speaker 4 (55:32):
Light, a little European euro Janki looking. But there's also
like mechs in it that I think it's.
Speaker 3 (55:38):
To me, it looked like it's from the It's from
the guys that did the scent.
Speaker 4 (55:43):
Oh okay, because to me, I was like I was
getting like, is it Titan Fall meets meets cyberpunk meets
something else?
Speaker 3 (55:50):
Basically?
Speaker 4 (55:51):
So yeah, that looks orbitals. This was the only Nintendo
Switched to exclusive game shown at the show. Yeah, this
was the like you're it's like you're playing through Uh,
what's it.
Speaker 2 (56:06):
The nineteen eighty style anime?
Speaker 4 (56:08):
Like, uh, what's it? Is it lazy? The guy that
the guy that did Uh Galaxy Express?
Speaker 3 (56:15):
Yeah, it's Galaxy It's like Galaxy Express slash Dirty Pair mixed.
Speaker 4 (56:21):
Yeah, like Daft Punk's Interstellar whatever the music video and
it's but it's like it takes two two player co
op and I was like, that looks fucking sweet.
Speaker 2 (56:32):
So it's very nice.
Speaker 4 (56:33):
And then out of words another co op game all
with with like emotion, physical stop motion puppets.
Speaker 2 (56:41):
I was like, Okay, now.
Speaker 3 (56:44):
The only the only thing that sucks is its Epic
exclusive on PC.
Speaker 4 (56:50):
Yeah, this feels like something where sometimes you have to
take the money to get that risky project made because
Epic is willing to Epic is willing to give you
a medium budget to really do anything for exclusivity right now.
So this is a case where I don't feel.
Speaker 3 (57:07):
I'm not I'm not sad. I'm not sad, but like
I'm just pointing it out. It's Epic exclusive at least
for six months or something.
Speaker 4 (57:15):
And you know this will come to switch, so it'll
be fine.
Speaker 3 (57:17):
It's already coming to switch to exactly they've already.
Speaker 4 (57:21):
Stupid never dies. In the pre show, Yes, this was.
Speaker 3 (57:26):
This was the one thing from the pre show where
I was like, yes, this looks dope.
Speaker 4 (57:30):
I was watching it, I was like, is that what
Tango is doing now that they're independent? Like it looked
like high Fi Rush too, but it wasn't. It's similar style.
This was the one.
Speaker 3 (57:40):
It's a bunch of x cap Yeah, it's a bunch
of ex capcom people.
Speaker 4 (57:44):
Ex capcom people making a game with pop punk music
and zombie fighting.
Speaker 1 (57:50):
It kind of felt like Lollipop Chin Saw, but a
little goof here.
Speaker 4 (57:54):
If it makes I figured you'd like it.
Speaker 1 (57:56):
The music, yeah, very anime opening theme vibes. Yeah, all right,
I'm curious.
Speaker 4 (58:03):
Uh So keep an eye on that one for sure.
And there's obviously more. These are just highlights that I
thought we would all sort of agree on. I know,
I've been constantly talking about Exodus, but they finally showed
off more. I watched it and we get a date.
I watched it, and then when he said twenty twenty seven,
I went, what the whole year?
Speaker 3 (58:21):
No? No, no. The Exodus one got pushed because of GTA.
Speaker 4 (58:28):
I feeling it was an October release and then it
got pushed.
Speaker 3 (58:33):
Yeah, I guarantee you it got pushed.
Speaker 2 (58:36):
Yeah, so I'm still not impressed.
Speaker 4 (58:38):
So this is made by ninety percent of the BioWare team,
basically all the good BioWare the director of Baldersgate one
and two. Yes, he also was the director of cod
No not Kotar one. He was the art director on Kotar.
Speaker 3 (58:57):
Yeah, it's it's basically Jen one buy aware. Yeah, all
the Gen one buy aware people, all.
Speaker 4 (59:04):
The most all or most of the people that were
worked on the first three Dragon Age games, uh, the
Kotar games, Jade Empire, Baldersgate one and two, and the
vast fast majority of the people that worked on the
Old Republic MMO, and a couple of people from Anthem,
(59:25):
but not the people that made the bad decisions. Like
the the other.
Speaker 3 (59:29):
People are the art people, all the tech guys.
Speaker 4 (59:32):
Yeah, and they uh, they are the ones that moved
to work for Wizards of the Coast because they were
like Wizards is like we need to sci fi, Yeah,
we need to sci fi and so like they did this,
apparently we should contact them, like they have an RPG,
like a tabletop book that there were.
Speaker 2 (59:50):
Yeah, from what I've seen.
Speaker 1 (59:52):
I'm curious. I'm not impressed yet. Yeah, but it takes
a lot to impress.
Speaker 4 (59:58):
So when it comes to this sort of a space
and this this is the time dilation game, right where
so your companions you choose wisely because when you go
out on a mission, you can come back in ten
or fifteen years have gone by and your companion can
be aged out, or die or do all these things.
Very interesting ideas, really good writers. That there is a
novelization that's a pre prequel to it. It's already out.
(01:00:21):
I checked with Aaron. He knows the writer of He
knows of the writer of the novel and has bought
multiples of that guy's books because he said it was Oh,
he's actually a really good modern hard sci fi writer. So,
like they have a very solid base and we'll have
to see how it goes. I was hoping to see
more gameplayer get a demo, but if we're talking a
year away now.
Speaker 2 (01:00:43):
They're getting there.
Speaker 4 (01:00:44):
Yeah, it's going to be.
Speaker 3 (01:00:45):
It's going to be early twenty twenty seven.
Speaker 2 (01:00:48):
I see something at Summer Games.
Speaker 4 (01:00:51):
Yes, I have a prediction that at the next Game
Awards will have the date.
Speaker 3 (01:00:56):
Yeah, yeah, they'll if if not already ann the date
by Next.
Speaker 4 (01:01:01):
Game Awards very truely, it might be a January or
February release, depending on how they want it. But right
after that, as part of it, there were three or
four studios that were sput up by Wizards. One of
them we already saw the game from the one D
and D game that wasn't great but launched during the pandemic,
so it wasn't really their fault. I forget what that
(01:01:24):
one was called. It was the dungeon crawling one that
they did that was like a relaunch of like the
series from like the two thousands. Yea, yeah, and then
they oh yeah, And then they had another one that's
making something else. I forget if they announced what that
game was. And then there was Archetype that's making you know,
all the old form of biowhere people. And then there
was a third Triple A studio that was announced but
(01:01:47):
had never shown anything. Well, they finally showed it. That's
when Trisha Helfer came out and they're like, they're doing
a single player action RPG in the D and D
world called Warlock.
Speaker 2 (01:01:59):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:02:00):
I've got some thoughts on this, so obviously I'm the
D and d guy here been working with Wizards reviewing
all their products since pretty Munch twenty fourteen. I did
notice a few things in the trailer. They paid a
lot of money to get Tool in the trailer, and
I was like, that's interesting, okay. And when I mentioned Warlock,
(01:02:23):
that is a very specific character class. So depending on
where I have a feeling, this is gonna deal with
a lot of Planescape stuff. I'm just that's the vibe
I'm getting, and the character I think might be a
Pact of the Blade or a hex Blade Warlock if
the trailer is giving me the vibes I think it is,
(01:02:45):
in which case, Okay, I get that interesting. What world
are you tied to? What story are you gonna tell?
Action RPG single player? You've You've got my attention, sir.
Now don't fuck it up, because Wizards is really pushing
the Greyhawks setting, which is their default for the twenty
(01:03:05):
twenty four rules. But I can openly say the twenty
twenty four rules have not been greatly received and Wizards
is going in issues. Yeah, so they're going in on
making this. If they're smart, they'll set this in the
Forgotten Realms or Planescape, which allows them the capacity to
(01:03:28):
jump between Oh we're gonna go to Greyhawk, We're gonna
go to fay Run or Dark Sun or whatever. They're
gonna rely on something like that. If it's what I think,
it is interesting. So I want to see gameplay next
summer is what they're saying.
Speaker 3 (01:03:43):
But yeah, well, cautiously optimistic, we will see it at
Summer games fast.
Speaker 4 (01:03:48):
Yeah they said, oh, they said gameplay short, And at
first I was like, oh, is it gonna be another
like gotcha? I was like, wait a minute, No, they
would not hire Trisha Halferd to come out and be
the star for it to not be a single player,
big budget play action game.
Speaker 2 (01:04:01):
Yeah, it'd be really interesting if she plays like the
Lady of Pain or something, which I doubt because I
don't think the Lady of Payne talks.
Speaker 4 (01:04:07):
Because she said I'm the main protagonist.
Speaker 2 (01:04:10):
Oh okay, and that casey.
Speaker 4 (01:04:13):
That's what That's what got me, is okay, So she's
not just because like the last big project she was
on was she was hired as like the new voice
actress for Karragan and Edie and Stark, and in StarCraft
two she was Karrigan.
Speaker 2 (01:04:27):
Oh yeah, that's right.
Speaker 4 (01:04:28):
I forgot because they recast when they wanted to get
like celebrities to do it right. So like she hasn't
done a game in ten years. Mm hmm, So that's
a pretty big deal. And two, count them. Two tomb
Raider games were announced.
Speaker 3 (01:04:44):
Yeah, but the second, the remake of one surprised.
Speaker 4 (01:04:51):
Me, the remake of one for the thirtieth anniversary, and
both are in different art styles too, so it is
different studios. Flying wild Hog is working on the remake.
You might know them as the Shadow Warrior dev that
makes those those games.
Speaker 2 (01:05:06):
Those are fun.
Speaker 4 (01:05:08):
Yeah, so they made that. Did they also do the
Serious SAM remake or sequel?
Speaker 2 (01:05:12):
I think.
Speaker 3 (01:05:14):
They did one of the serious SAMs.
Speaker 4 (01:05:16):
But probably best well known for the three Shadow Warrior games,
So like they know how to make fun and well,
I guess they're like the main support studio working on
it with And it's like, you know what, sure it
looks good, might actually make me want to play it
because I can't stand tank controls and the new one
(01:05:37):
looks and they're smart. They announced two games, one for
next year and one for the year after. So thirtieth anniversary,
here's a remake reimagine, they said, a reimagining I think
they said, so it's a full reimagining, So the controls
are going to be like modern controls and everything that
out and then a year later the new game in
the series. That's a that's a smart way to do it.
And this These will be the first games outside of
(01:05:59):
New World that Amazon is actually put out, like they
actually completed and released the retail.
Speaker 3 (01:06:06):
I mean technically speaking, First Light is because they own Bond.
Speaker 4 (01:06:12):
Yeah, but you know, I mean under technic specifically, like
specifically the Amazon Games as a publisher. Yes, so that
would be a pretty big deal. This one got my
blood pumping' and oh yes.
Speaker 3 (01:06:30):
Yes I was genuinely. I was generally like, holy shit,
did we getting a new pod racing game?
Speaker 4 (01:06:36):
Yes?
Speaker 1 (01:06:37):
Yes, Well and it takes place at a weird point
in the timeline too.
Speaker 3 (01:06:41):
Yeah, it's take it takes place posts at last the Empire.
Speaker 1 (01:06:45):
Yeah, like the fact that there's a track on Jack
who like an interesting because Disney seems to be wanting
to erase that. But if you said it before the
Force Awakens, nobody cares. You said it afterwards, we care,
and we don't like.
Speaker 4 (01:06:59):
You Star Wars Lactic Racers, as we said. But the
big deal here is when Criterion was fully absorbed and
they were told, no more Burnout games, you must only
work on me for speed Now, a sizeable chunk of
the former devs that made all the Burnout games left
and this is their big project. So we're gonna have
(01:07:21):
like crazy explosions, lots of like cruel camera angle stuff.
Speaker 3 (01:07:27):
Like the idea of that kind of team working on
a pod racing game.
Speaker 4 (01:07:35):
Yes, and it's a big budget, a big budget arcade racer.
We haven't like, honestly, big budget arcade racer. Has it
been since Burnout Paradise, since since we had something you
could consider to be a triple a arcade racer that
isn't for as a horizon. Nope, that's it right, Like,
(01:07:58):
so this this will be sweet. And then it was
early in the show, but I put it here because
I figured we'd want to talk about it near the
end here, and that is Star Wars Faded the Old
Republican before we start. It is not a rebranding of
Kotore three that's still being developed in that original Cotar style.
(01:08:19):
This is not that style of game. This is this
is going to be basically mass effect Star Wars and
that it is a action RPG, so not not a
turn based or top down view coe Tor style action RPG. Big,
huge budget, directed by Casey Hudson, the director of Kotore
(01:08:43):
one and the Mass Effect trilogy. Yep, yep. When I
saw this, I was like, Mike's gonna cream his pants.
Speaker 2 (01:08:50):
See. I saw this, and I was thinking.
Speaker 1 (01:08:52):
When I saw the hand on the control stick, I'm thinking,
is this fucking mass Effect?
Speaker 2 (01:08:56):
And then it pans out? Okay, I don't think so.
Speaker 1 (01:09:00):
But when they hit I heard the music yep, and
then I saw the engine design.
Speaker 2 (01:09:04):
Yep, that's Star Wars. I recognized the.
Speaker 4 (01:09:06):
Engine and then the icing on the cake at the
end when it's like direct a game directed by Casey Hudson,
I was like, oh shit, yeah, because there was talk
of Casey was at one point back working on Mass
Effect five and then at one point, you know, basically
went left, brushed his hands and went I'm gone, and
they're like, why would you go and leave again? And
(01:09:28):
then we heard nothing because it sounds like.
Speaker 3 (01:09:32):
Soundcause Disney gave him. Disney was saying, hey, here's Star Wars.
Speaker 4 (01:09:37):
Disney said, hey, that money. Disney said, hey, by the way,
would you like to spin up your own team, and
and it's a brand new dev team, and it's like, oh,
so we got Casey working on Star Wars Codar, We've
got uh, we've got the rest of the bio where team.
Like there were a few people that tried to do
their own things and we played them and they weren't great,
(01:09:57):
but the vast core outside of Casey Hudson are working at,
you know, doing Exodus. Like at this point, I'm like,
look at I'm like, Mass Effect better be a hit
because if it's not, I'm not going to feel quite
as bad anymore if it's not a hit, because if
we've got these coming and if there are good, then
I'll feel sad for the franchise not being there. But like,
(01:10:20):
at least we're not waiting like years and years and
years and not knowing anymore. These studios are making some
cool shit. Nothing else really revealed yet, But just when
I saw it.
Speaker 3 (01:10:31):
Again, the thing they dated it twenty twenty seven, it whenever.
Speaker 4 (01:10:37):
Yeah, exactly. And then the final thing here was we're
watching and we were teasing my buddy Matt here We're
like we're like, oh, look there's a door. It's got
to be mega man, it's gonna be Mega Man. It
looks like a megamizing. Shut up, it's not. And then
I was like, don't you hear the music because they
were very slow.
Speaker 2 (01:10:53):
Yeah, that got me.
Speaker 4 (01:10:54):
And he's like, he's like, he goes what I'm like.
And then they opened the door and he goes he
sees like the code name on the door when it's
unlocking is Oh my god, it is back. Dude, screamed.
I thought he was gonna wake the neighbors.
Speaker 3 (01:11:03):
Oh yeah, but like what really? So if you go
back and watch, you couldn't see it on the broadcast itself,
but the trailer itself has all the dates for the
Mega Man games in that hallway.
Speaker 2 (01:11:17):
Oh I don't know, Okay, I didn't see that.
Speaker 3 (01:11:20):
So you couldn't see it in the broadcast of Game Awards,
but it's there.
Speaker 4 (01:11:25):
So Mega Man Dual override AK Mega Man twelve bigger
budget than before, but still lower budget. So hopefully they'll
keep it at like the forty.
Speaker 3 (01:11:33):
Probably we're probably going to play as pro Deo Man.
Speaker 4 (01:11:38):
That was a talk that we had.
Speaker 1 (01:11:40):
You'll get Mega Man, you'll get Proto Man, you'll get
base you might even get Trouble.
Speaker 2 (01:11:44):
I think actually the player is rush in trouble with me.
Speaker 4 (01:11:47):
Also, the talk we had back and forth was are
they finally going to bite the bullet and do a
dual mode where you have X in the same timeline.
Speaker 1 (01:11:57):
That would be fun if this was the Yeah, because
they were ga right there, because we had a whole
discussion about how they're very against doing that.
Speaker 4 (01:12:06):
They've been like, for whatever reason, they've never mixed them.
They've never talked like and I said, like what I said,
but I said, duel overright. I said, Matt, do you
think this is gonna be like their sonic generations? It's
like no, and then he goes and he pauses and
he goes, I don't think so. And I was like, maybe,
if they're gonna want to ask more money than like
a forty dollars price tag, they've got to show more
(01:12:28):
than just a two D looking game from fifteen years ago,
because it still looks like a two D game that
could have been out fifteen years ago. So what's the hook?
Is the hook? That is the hook that gonna be
that there's gonna be like three D sections, like like
the way that they revealed it by opening the doors,
like are is there gonna be stuff like goes into
a three D plane. Are we getting like a legend
sort of thing. No, it looks pretty straightforward right now.
(01:12:49):
But they're very smart to not show much yet. If
this what we see is basically what the whole game is,
they can't ask more than forty bucks.
Speaker 2 (01:12:58):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:12:58):
Uh, but if if, if they announce that it's going
to be a full price game, there's gonna be a
lot more to do with this game, I think then
than what they're And I would now because of this,
I would again pass them to to do. I know
that they only do like the legacy collections. If they
have enough in a series, I could see them doing
a one off thing where it's like all the rest,
Like we didn't get Legends one or two Trombon, we
(01:13:20):
haven't had X Command Mission, we haven't had a few
of the Rando System ones. And by the time, yes,
soccer and and that's and I think, like, I don't
think that the well, I guess they didn't make the
game Year one that was actually third point, but like
the Wars, No, there was a Mega Man one remake
(01:13:44):
on game Gear.
Speaker 1 (01:13:46):
Oh right, okay, and yeah, and then there was the
Mega Man X Remake and Mega Man Powered Up.
Speaker 4 (01:13:53):
So I don't think they'll include the game ger one
because I think that was like us Gold or somebody
that did it. But but I could see like Legends
one one two, Mega Man sixty four coming out, X
Command Mission, Trombond, and the two PSP games, and that
would be enough for one more collection to come out
in between when this does.
Speaker 3 (01:14:11):
Yeah. Another thing that wasn't on our list, but I
want to point out is Invincible Versus one got dated
two announced in original character.
Speaker 2 (01:14:30):
And Rex Blode.
Speaker 3 (01:14:32):
I mean Rex, we already kind of knew Rex when.
Speaker 4 (01:14:35):
I saw Elemental, I was like, Storm, Is it just
Storm basically?
Speaker 2 (01:14:39):
Yeah, Storm but more brutal.
Speaker 3 (01:14:44):
Storm but would literally kill your ass.
Speaker 2 (01:14:47):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:14:49):
So, I but it's coming out in April, at the
end of April, which makes sense because it was announced
as a game for EVO. There's twelve games for EVO
this year, fucking.
Speaker 2 (01:15:01):
Insane and no Mortal Combat.
Speaker 3 (01:15:04):
No Mortal Combat?
Speaker 4 (01:15:05):
What what is it like?
Speaker 3 (01:15:06):
Techn uh so it's uh Tech TECN two K two
x k O, under Night in Birth, uh S F six,
Fatal Fury or Blaze Blue, Grand Blue, Grand Blue. I'm
(01:15:28):
missing a couple.
Speaker 4 (01:15:31):
How about those ones that came out during the pandemic,
like Omen of Sorrow.
Speaker 3 (01:15:35):
No, no, no, no, no no. They're like basically any fighting like
any fighting game that has a community. Yeah, but like
any fighting game that has a community. Uh dbz oh
the uh the pre prequel series. The retro game this
(01:15:59):
year is the night stalk pre Night Stalkers game.
Speaker 4 (01:16:04):
Oh okay, well that's cool. So yeah, so but yeah,
all this there's probably more announcements that we, you know,
are failing to mention. But these were like I think
the take home big ones and and as you can see,
like there's a lot of cool shit. It's just but
there wasn't anything like there's there wasn't uh.
Speaker 3 (01:16:23):
I want to get I also want to give a
shout out to Soros. I like Soros also saw us
moved their date. They're now end of April instead of
the end of March.
Speaker 4 (01:16:35):
Smart move, shifting it around, get some polish on it,
maybe have a little less crowding. So uh, it sounds
like they put it out of the fiscal year because
they whatever. Maybe they're bolstering things, who knows, uh, But yeah,
I mean that's cool. There there was a lot of
cool stuff, but there wasn't like we didn't see the
you know, some of the big stuff. So we were
going to talk just briefly about things we didn't see
(01:16:56):
that we were expecting to see. We didn't see anything
from that God of War spinoff, the game that everybody
was rumored to see.
Speaker 5 (01:17:03):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (01:17:03):
And there was nothing about the fall about the God
of War TV show either.
Speaker 4 (01:17:07):
Yeah, nothing from the fallowing.
Speaker 3 (01:17:09):
They're not going to start filming God of War until
beginning of next year.
Speaker 2 (01:17:14):
They could have showed something, maybe.
Speaker 3 (01:17:16):
They could have announced like anything, and yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:17:19):
There was no no fallout, not even like the fallout
New Vegas rumored remaster or anything.
Speaker 1 (01:17:25):
And that surprised the funk out of me, honestly. Todd
Howard had come out and said, hey, guys, mister House
has a gift for you, New Vegas remaster available and
he looks at his watch and it's a pit boy
right now. You would have blown that this would have
been their award show to win.
Speaker 2 (01:17:44):
But no, no, you Todd.
Speaker 4 (01:17:47):
No, No Assassin's Creed no, uh you know no.
Speaker 3 (01:17:53):
Well, asas the three just recently had the crossover with
Attack on Titan, which.
Speaker 2 (01:17:58):
Is such a weird no for them, to do.
Speaker 4 (01:18:00):
No Prince of Persia, even though the talk is it's
coming out in like three weeks. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:18:06):
No, no, no a C No a C Black Flag
remake which we know exist.
Speaker 4 (01:18:13):
No, no Black Flag, No no Hexan update for the
next big budget title from them. Nothing on splinter cellf
nothing from movies offt really at all.
Speaker 3 (01:18:22):
Oh, speaking of you, soft the the dude that was
one of the one of the games that was shown
off was from The King the Battle.
Speaker 4 (01:18:37):
Oh yeah that's right. Yeah, yeah, yeah, that's right. I
forgot that they had that. Nothing from Okay, no update
on Lazarus, which is the old BioShock devs that have
been working on a game for what like nine years now.
Nothing from Lazarus. Nothing from BioShock four, which has now
been in development also like nine years.
Speaker 3 (01:18:57):
Well, yeah, I understand why Biostruck four because apparently they're
redoing the story.
Speaker 2 (01:19:07):
I was.
Speaker 1 (01:19:08):
There was something else that I noticed today, and I
just I want to mention this while while it's top
of my mind. Notice how the seat fillers that place
looked sparsely attended. That really caught my attention because I
knew two people who went there who are friends of mine,
and I haven't spoken with them yet, but that crowd
(01:19:28):
looked fucking thin.
Speaker 4 (01:19:30):
Well when it was on, I had heard that this
is the first year where they limited nominees only having
two tickets and everybody else would have to pay if
you brought your whole team. Yeah, and the seats were
like five hundred bucks apiece or something.
Speaker 3 (01:19:46):
Yeah. And the only team and the only team that
everyone came was Sandfall.
Speaker 2 (01:19:51):
Yeah, like it was obviously the Clare team.
Speaker 1 (01:19:54):
One thing I also noticed is I know David Harber
was there because you talk about what we didn't see.
You could have done a synergistic thing with Stranger Things,
And I know it's the fact that he's there.
Speaker 3 (01:20:08):
Netflix is not spent. Netflix is not spending money right now.
Speaker 2 (01:20:11):
Yeah, I get Yeah, I guess it's tied up elsewhere.
Speaker 4 (01:20:15):
It's up elsewhere. But also the big corporate sponsor this
time was an Amazon Prime.
Speaker 2 (01:20:21):
Yeah, you're right.
Speaker 4 (01:20:22):
And if we didn't get Fallout on here, then we
weren't gonna get Stranger Things.
Speaker 2 (01:20:27):
Stranger Things.
Speaker 1 (01:20:28):
Yeah, I mean there was It felt like to me
this year, I don't know, like it was competently run out.
As you mentioned off the top of the show, this
was in my opinion, he said aggressively mid, But that
doesn't mean it's bad. It was competent, it was fast,
went five minutes over time. But it just it felt
(01:20:50):
like just perfectly fine, non offensively fine.
Speaker 4 (01:20:55):
And I mean there were there were some big announcements.
It's just you had to like, if you had expectations
for Microsoft or Sony, you weren't going to get them.
Speaker 2 (01:21:04):
Yeah, which is kind of weird.
Speaker 1 (01:21:06):
Oh and there was a look at Mario fifteen seconds
of someone getting kicked across the room.
Speaker 2 (01:21:11):
Fuck off.
Speaker 3 (01:21:12):
I mean Luigi got to do is smash me?
Speaker 4 (01:21:15):
Yeah. Yeah, but how about that was that was that
was back on track with what we didn't see? How
about we didn't see no mass effect, nothing from.
Speaker 3 (01:21:24):
EA really, nothing from Square, nothing.
Speaker 4 (01:21:28):
From Square at Paul. Where was any of the retro
revivals from Sega that have been announced.
Speaker 3 (01:21:35):
For Yeah, had nothing either two years.
Speaker 4 (01:21:38):
Nothing from Sega. No RGG, no Persona, no Persona I
was fully expected, No Persona, no Final Fantasy seven remake
Part three, no f F nine, no other announcements, Uh,
no Dragon, Yeah nothing. Konami wasn't here at all. Yeah
they did, they didn't, like, they didn't even pay to
send the voice actress that was nominated, like they like
(01:22:01):
they didn't they couldn't have they like there was nothing
from them. Capcom had the trailer for our our uh nine,
but basically nothing else.
Speaker 3 (01:22:13):
Well no, Capcom. Capcom had a significant amount, but they
think the product nothing new.
Speaker 4 (01:22:18):
Yeah, nothing new?
Speaker 3 (01:22:19):
Is it's nothing new new that's that's coming out like
a sap.
Speaker 4 (01:22:24):
True. Basically most American studios weren't there.
Speaker 3 (01:22:32):
Yeah, because because most of the American studios have been
gutted by everyone.
Speaker 4 (01:22:38):
Yeah. Uh, but yeah, there there wasn't. There wasn't a
whole lot. It was a lot of European stuff here,
uh and a lot of independent stuff, but like no
mass effect was surprise, like not having teasers or title reveals.
Speaker 2 (01:22:52):
Or any small there was barely even anything.
Speaker 3 (01:22:57):
Well, let's be honest. The main reason why EA has
been silent is because they're in the middle of merging
with Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:23:05):
Yeah, so it was it was a little surprising. Of
some of the things we didn't see, I would I
could have sworn it would have made sense for them
to have had something from BioShock or something from from Lazarus.
I'm trying to think of other big candles that have
been sort of in the I mean I think.
Speaker 3 (01:23:21):
I think two K is hoarding all their money for GTA.
Speaker 4 (01:23:25):
Yeah, and not not even any GTA, Like here's a
little teaser, here's one of the voice actors. None of that, Like,
nothing nothing from them there was. It was. It was
a little odd how there was no sparse so little representation.
Like I know that Microsoft has been slashing budgets and
laying people off left and right, but don't they still
(01:23:48):
have like fifteen games in development that they still haven't shown.
Speaker 3 (01:23:52):
They've got a bunch. But also some of those games
got canceled or shadow canceled.
Speaker 4 (01:23:59):
And I was surprise that we still outside of Sorrows,
have nothing on the books now Sony for next year
except for Token.
Speaker 1 (01:24:08):
There was something I just when you said that that
made me think of something.
Speaker 3 (01:24:13):
There was there was one thing that was Sony funded
Shoot Phantom zero.
Speaker 2 (01:24:21):
Uh yeah, yeah, Free Shepherd.
Speaker 3 (01:24:24):
That looks interesting, But like there was one that was
really obviously Sony funded. I got it.
Speaker 4 (01:24:31):
Oh, you're right. I can't remember it now the top
of my head, but it was one of the games.
Oh geez, I know what you mean.
Speaker 1 (01:24:38):
Yeah, so we put a lot of there was a
lot of Sony. I wouldn't call it exclusivity, but I
didn't s there were a couple of games that were
Microsoft and Nintendo cross platform, but there was a lot
of Epic Game Store and Sony and blah blah blah.
I just noticed that throughout the entire night Mike, there's
a lot of PlayStation and the power being spended.
Speaker 4 (01:24:58):
That's why it stood up to me. Orbital's was the
only game announced that was a Switch to Exclusive, not
Switch one and Switch to Switch to Exclusive. Yeah, literally one.
And it's also not on PC, like I think that
might be the only game that was a single platform announcement.
Speaker 3 (01:25:17):
Yeah, and also they Silent the folks at South of
the Midnight officially announced they're coming to PS five and
Switched to, which is technically the first Microsoft game to
be coming to switch To.
Speaker 1 (01:25:29):
Speaking of Microsoft games, they showed that Microsoft trailer for
game Pass. They walked past a door that showed Gears.
Speaker 3 (01:25:37):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:25:38):
Do you think that was a subtle hint we're doing
something else with the gears here, because since it.
Speaker 3 (01:25:42):
Got Also, if you notice, if you notice next to
the year's logo, it says coming twenty twenty six.
Speaker 2 (01:25:49):
Yeah, I did. I was like, well, what are you doing?
Speaker 4 (01:25:52):
That was my thought, because they launched that Gears was
reload remaster whatever the newest version that they gave.
Speaker 3 (01:25:58):
Up, the Gears Remaster numb or three.
Speaker 4 (01:26:00):
Yeah, like for whatever reason, my my my digital least
at least.
Speaker 3 (01:26:04):
They gave it for free if you owned it.
Speaker 4 (01:26:06):
Yeah, my digital edition automatically upgraded. And then it's also
on PlayStation. But like I thought that if anything, they
would have had a new trailer for e eday.
Speaker 3 (01:26:16):
Yeah yeah, yeah, I'm assuming days next year.
Speaker 4 (01:26:22):
Yeah, or are they waiting for the summer to reveal
it at their summer showcase? Maybe because one thing?
Speaker 2 (01:26:29):
Yeah, oh sorry, go ahead.
Speaker 1 (01:26:31):
One thing I want to mention And and this goes
back to just the way the Award show was presented.
Speaker 2 (01:26:38):
The Muppets felt off this year.
Speaker 1 (01:26:41):
I was talking with Liam, and Liam is a very
eccentric individual, but he pointed something out to me.
Speaker 2 (01:26:46):
And I never quite thought about it. Miss Piggy sounds weird.
Speaker 3 (01:26:50):
Because it sounded weird for a while.
Speaker 4 (01:26:54):
Yeah, hasn't done it in twenty years?
Speaker 1 (01:26:56):
Yeah, and he's He pointed me out to a gag
that was on Family Guy called the wrong Muppet and
sounded fine.
Speaker 3 (01:27:07):
Has been the same person for decades.
Speaker 1 (01:27:09):
Yeah, so I'm like, okay, he still sounds great. A
little bit of a change, but whatever. But the mispigy
stuff felt so weird.
Speaker 4 (01:27:16):
And it sounded like like Seth MacFarlane doing it.
Speaker 2 (01:27:19):
Yeah, like it just it sounded freaking strange.
Speaker 4 (01:27:22):
Also, what was their purpose this year? Usually they're there
to tie into something going on with one of the games.
Speaker 1 (01:27:30):
They I want that beaker for untitled Goose game. I God,
I still want that.
Speaker 4 (01:27:35):
They weren't used to advertise anything other than the game Awards,
and I don't like, I know that Jeff is really
infatuated with it during the pandemic when they're trying was
it the Haunted House one he's in that he was
in that. It's like, I get it, he's like a
super fan, but like, does he not get that? Like
(01:27:57):
this sounds this might sound like mean and cul but like, well,
vast majority of people watching this don't care about the muppets.
Speaker 3 (01:28:05):
Uh, people of a certain age did care.
Speaker 4 (01:28:08):
But I mean issue is the general.
Speaker 3 (01:28:10):
Issue is Yeah, well the issue is Disney doesn't know
what the fuck to do with them.
Speaker 1 (01:28:16):
Yeah, and it's just because I've got friends of mine
who work on the Muppets property. I've got a couple
of them are puppeteers and some of them work in
creative departments, and we're not wrong. They don't know what
the fucking do with it. Like the Muppet Show. I
had a friend of mine worked on that and he
was like.
Speaker 3 (01:28:32):
The last thing we the last thing we heard about
is they're reviving the Muppet Show for Disney Plus and
Emma Stone and another major female actress are trying to
make a Miss Piggy movie.
Speaker 4 (01:28:45):
Well like, and I don't have a problem with it.
I was just thinking, like they're not popular. I mean,
like right now, what what would be.
Speaker 3 (01:28:53):
The yeah zero popularity?
Speaker 4 (01:28:55):
And it's like, okay, people our agent older love them,
do kids.
Speaker 3 (01:28:59):
I think I'm hoping with the new Muppet Show that
comes on Disney Plus, that will put them back into
the spotlight.
Speaker 4 (01:29:08):
Because like I would have figured they would have used
them to tie into a game, like like I don't
mean like to have them announced the game, but like
after like after there are so many after or after
the racing game or or Kotor or the or the
old public game was announced, I would have figured miss
picking them, they would have had them dressed up as
Jedis to like cross promote the games.
Speaker 3 (01:29:31):
Yeah, like seriously, Muppet Star Wars, come on.
Speaker 4 (01:29:35):
That's what I'm saying, Like like it would have been It
would have been great if, like I know, they had
Miss Piking.
Speaker 1 (01:29:39):
Or if she came out and did something with Claire Obscura,
like have her try to sing the theme in French
and like I don't sing that.
Speaker 4 (01:29:45):
That's what I'm saying. Have her do that and then
have like like you know, Kermit comes out and he's
got like, uh, you know a Jedi robond or or
you have or animal?
Speaker 2 (01:29:55):
Do you have a fair?
Speaker 4 (01:29:57):
Animal?
Speaker 5 (01:29:57):
Fair?
Speaker 3 (01:29:58):
Kermit's current voice sounds really bad?
Speaker 4 (01:30:02):
Okay, Okay, not that, Yeah, okay, why not have animal
back like they did? Was animal there when they did
the elden Ring thing? I think it was? Yes, why
do not have animal back? And they could have done
a skit with him as a pod racer animal and
he crashes his pod racer. But like like they had
a bunch of mark like a bunch of uh.
Speaker 3 (01:30:23):
Disney had a bunch of possible Yeah, cross promotion.
Speaker 4 (01:30:26):
Disney owned a bunch of things here that were shown
and they didn't use the Muppets to cross promoted at all.
Speaker 1 (01:30:33):
Which, okay, weird thing and again the wrong muppet gag
when they did the Batman lego thing. Again, I'm glad
this game exists for whatever reason. Did it not sound
weird to anybody else that that wasn't Will Arnett's voice
coming out of Batman?
Speaker 3 (01:30:48):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, I was like that, but I get it.
Speaker 2 (01:30:53):
Yeah, I get it.
Speaker 4 (01:30:53):
And the Deadpool crossover, I was like, I know that
NPH is doing it the other game, like why not.
I was like, oh, wait a minute, it makes sense.
Nolan North's been voicing it in games for like twenty years.
Speaker 1 (01:31:03):
Yeah, exactly, So like, all right, that's fine, that's the
Marvel Nolan North.
Speaker 2 (01:31:06):
Al Right, awesome, cool.
Speaker 3 (01:31:09):
Yeah, I don't know, and we knew and we need
new Deadpool was coming to Rivals like a year ago.
Speaker 1 (01:31:14):
Oh yeah, because like how could he fucking not. It's like,
I don't know, it just it felt like there's a
lot of weird thing. And that's something else too. I
mean speaking of Marvel, I mean Cosmic Invasion just came out.
They could have dropped a DLC character for for like nothing.
Tonight's Oh, by the way, if you are watching the
Game Awards, use this code get a free costume or
a freak.
Speaker 4 (01:31:34):
I thought there was gonna be more I thought there
would be more drops and all that was yeah was games.
Speaker 2 (01:31:40):
Yeah, would be fucking do man. Yeah, I said that
to Liam. I was surprised when.
Speaker 4 (01:31:45):
We were sitting here. What we were waiting on was
with all this Claire Obscure stuff happening, I was waiting
on for them to say, Claire Obscure is coming uh
to Prime Gaming, claim your game today. Yeah, because if
they had done that crazy, if they had been able
to work out that deal, it would have been insane
for their for the game's exposure beyond anything, because you
(01:32:07):
would have been like, what game of the year is free?
If they had done that great or if they had
done even something, you know, maybe not the exact same thing,
but now that that Amazon is making the tomb Raider,
what if they had just said, you know, the tomb
Raider trilogy, uh, you know, and and you know every
previous tomb Raider game, you know, activate it now on
(01:32:27):
Luna blah blah blah blah blah and get it for free.
But no, they I would have figured with the announcements
of those those two games, they would have done something,
you know, been like hey, here's a tomb Raider related
thing drop for free.
Speaker 3 (01:32:39):
Well they've already given away tomb Raider multiple times on
Prime Game.
Speaker 4 (01:32:43):
Okay, maybe maybe. Well the closest thing they did was
go og has the tomb Raider like of the New
Trilogy or the Newer Trilogy. The first two games are
on for like four or five bucks piece.
Speaker 1 (01:32:56):
Yeah, and they're fucking fantastic. Yeah, I mean if you
don't known them already, right, So yeah, but yeah, like
I mean, that's that's. That's all I really got to say.
Speaker 4 (01:33:03):
Like, I know we're meandering a little bit here, but
like there were a bunch of big titles that I
think we were expecting to see more of that were
already announced. There were a bunch of unannounced titles, Like
at this point, out of all the gig Gigaleaks that
have come out, Final Fantasy nine is the only one
we haven't seen and it's been like years and it's
still confirmed to exist.
Speaker 3 (01:33:22):
So like, how I mean the rumor, the rumor that
happened back in the summer was that Square just acted
it completely.
Speaker 4 (01:33:31):
And I don't know if they hope.
Speaker 3 (01:33:32):
I don't think. I don't think they did.
Speaker 4 (01:33:34):
It's been too long that they can't just really write
it off, like you know what I mean, like I'm
a little.
Speaker 3 (01:33:39):
Yeah, I mean the and it was a missed opportunity
this year because it was the it was the it
was an anniversary year for Final Fantasy nine.
Speaker 4 (01:33:47):
Well exactly all they did was they released a remastered
version of the song for streaming. And it's like, okay, okay.
Speaker 3 (01:33:54):
Really and and they got some and they got some
Japan exclusive merch. That's about it.
Speaker 4 (01:33:59):
And I mean, yeah, it's I'll say my final thoughts
on this. You know, I like the show overall. Obviously,
there was a lot of things here that I like.
Wasn't a ton of turbased RPG stuff that I would
normally be into. I was missing out on hopefully seeing
a lot of stuff that I would have liked to see.
But there's still cool stuff, you know. Some of my
major takeaways were that there's all a lot that I
(01:34:21):
feel behind the scenes was affected by all the GTA
stuff being moved. So I feel like some things that
they might have wanted to announce they chose not to
because now they're not going to meet the twenty twenty
six window, and like beyond that, there's there was cool
stuff here, but there wasn't like stuff that blue me
(01:34:43):
blow away. There's a lot of like stickering and like,
oh this looks neat. I can't wait to see what
you know, new projects in these studios have coming that
you know weren't announced here. I think what this tells
me is everybody should have all eyes on what Sony
has for their usual middle of January to early February
state of play, Slash PlayStation, you know, experience.
Speaker 3 (01:35:03):
Whatever, also whatever Nintendo does in January, because both they
always do something.
Speaker 4 (01:35:09):
Both of them basically have nothing announced. Soros is announced
with a date. Uh, there's no date yet for Tokon.
That's fucking it for Sony at all.
Speaker 3 (01:35:21):
Tokon's I mean, Token's definitely going to miss EVO, which
means it's a fall game.
Speaker 4 (01:35:27):
Yeah, And so like that's it for your whole goddamn year,
and even this year was kind of light for them.
And then Nintendo it's like you've shown.
Speaker 3 (01:35:37):
Us has to Nintendo has two titles that are going
to be switched, and then they have Fire Emblem next year,
which Fire Emblem is going to be their summer.
Speaker 4 (01:35:48):
Game yep, and then we don't know what their fall is.
We won't know that probably till summer anyway, but that
that's it there, Like an Xbox is like we know
that at some point FAB supposed to be coming. I
don't think they can cancel any more games, so they
won't have any games to release, Like there is a
point where you can cancel all these projects to save
(01:36:09):
money and then you have no revenue coming up.
Speaker 3 (01:36:12):
Well, the main problem is that it came out that
might I think I've said this on Mike before, but
Microsoft wants a profitability margin that's fucking impossible.
Speaker 1 (01:36:28):
Yeah, yeah, like you cannot have infinite growth.
Speaker 2 (01:36:32):
I mean like this, I don't know.
Speaker 1 (01:36:35):
This has been I feel like a very rough two
months for year end for a lot of the gaming industry,
and especially now with like Activision having to basically publicly.
Speaker 2 (01:36:45):
Say oh fuck, we're so sorry.
Speaker 4 (01:36:47):
And I can say this if you want to know
the state of uh of like big game, We'll take
a Nintendo out of it. Think of this right now.
The sales are on for the holidays, and all this
for for game console a PS five Slim without the
disk drive in Canada is four it's like for eighty
nine I think right now, and then you can pay
(01:37:09):
one hundred bucks to add the dis drive, So fur
eighty nine for a disc disk drive or diskless version.
It is eight hundred dollars for the diskless Xbox Series X.
Speaker 3 (01:37:22):
And I will also note those prices are gonna go
up at the end of the holidays because.
Speaker 4 (01:37:29):
Of yeah, not for Sony Sony.
Speaker 3 (01:37:33):
Has has Sony's got their stuff.
Speaker 4 (01:37:35):
They they apparently have six months of stock left of
yeah chips.
Speaker 3 (01:37:40):
But Sony's got their stuff settled at least until the
at least for the first half of the year.
Speaker 1 (01:37:44):
So for anybody, And do you have a PlayStation five
yet Nope, you should probably get on that.
Speaker 4 (01:37:50):
It might be time to get to use one for
like three hundred bucks.
Speaker 3 (01:37:53):
If you can't, yeah, which is what I'm looking.
Speaker 4 (01:37:56):
At, because like, get one, don't get a a digital
only launch edition. Get if you can, get a used
slim because then you can always pop the drive on
if you want to, right, yeah, but yeah, like it's
and I believe for the first time the Okay, here's
what's crazy. I looked at the pricing to get an
Xbox Series X with the disk drive. Now because of
(01:38:19):
the way the prices went up, and I sold mine
and it paid for basically half of my switch before
the prices went up. I got like four hundred and
fifty bucks. But that was way before the prices went
up now, right, But but prices went up. But nobody
wants to buy it, right, So it's not like I
would get that money now anyway, Right, but at the
time orright start even now, a Xbox Series X with
(01:38:39):
the disk drive, and I think it's it might be
the two terribile version because I think that's the only
one that they're selling with the disk drive now. But
like the standard edition there right now, as of as
of this recording, is the same price as the PS
five Pro. Yeah, Like, why why would anybody buy an
Xbox at all at this point?
Speaker 3 (01:39:00):
Maybe well even Microsoft saying don't buy an Xbox.
Speaker 4 (01:39:04):
I have an ASS and the ASS is great for
an additional system, if that makes sense.
Speaker 3 (01:39:10):
And like, don't get me, don't get me wrong, I
love my Series X it specifically because it has all
the Adobe features and the four WHICH and the four
K player.
Speaker 4 (01:39:21):
But yeah, so now that we're getting back on topic,
I guess within the end of the year, right, Mike.
So we've still got some programming coming. We've got some
uh last minute gift ideas is coming this week. We
also probably will have a review show as well. There
might be some stuff as we uh figure out what
the programming is because some of the stuff for Gift
Guide came in late or is still coming in. Yeah,
(01:39:44):
you know, we'll have some stuff to cover for that,
and obviously a review show or two. Uh, we'll have
holiday programming for Earth Soup. We're gonna see fingers crossed
that you and I can organize a quick little, uh
Christmas Eve show or something special. Yeah, and then you
you guys have a bunch of stuff that you're working
on as well, right.
Speaker 1 (01:40:02):
So yeah, me, Ken, Dave and Adam, we're gonna The
goal is we're gonna record those Lord of the Rings
specials we promised during the summer, but scheduling god in
the way. So the plan is we're gonna record the
first one Lord of the Rings Fellowship at the Ring
before Christmas, and that'll be released on Christmas Day, and
then before we come back on January twenty sixth, we're
(01:40:22):
gonna record the two Towers and we're going to record
the Return of the King, and then when we start
banking our summer content, because we're already talking about that,
we're gonna do the Hobbit trilogy over the next couple
of months, and then you'll see that next summer along
with the animated specials. Maybe me and Ken will do
that as where more of the animation affection audos in
(01:40:44):
our group, And yeah, we're working on those.
Speaker 2 (01:40:48):
We're gonna do. I'm vastly gonna be off Mike though,
outside of the.
Speaker 1 (01:40:53):
Loose cannons, and I'm definitely looking forward to.
Speaker 2 (01:40:58):
Yeah exactly, and.
Speaker 4 (01:40:59):
All the people it's like when when they hear you
say I'm not going to be on Mike, it's like, well,
you're on every episode. It's because some of that stuff
was recorded like months ago.
Speaker 2 (01:41:06):
Yeah exactly.
Speaker 4 (01:41:06):
Oh we have that.
Speaker 3 (01:41:08):
I mean, we've got so much. We've got a bunch
of loose cannons and uh random acxist memory, a.
Speaker 4 (01:41:14):
Lot of topics that that you know, you know, don't
have to be like record and released right away. It's
like topics that we could talk about whenever.
Speaker 1 (01:41:22):
Yeah, and then in the new year, you guys are
going to see us. Like I said, come back around
the twenty sixth of January, that is the goal. That'll
be the last Monday of January, and then Twig turns.
Speaker 2 (01:41:32):
I think eighteen or nineteen. I want to say nineteen.
Speaker 1 (01:41:36):
Years old, old enough to drive by pornography and join
the army.
Speaker 4 (01:41:40):
And technically drink by weed in Canada exactly.
Speaker 1 (01:41:44):
Other than that, though, like I said, I guess before
we go out for the year, because this is like
our best, our last, big live show. Big thanks to
everybody who's joined the team this year, such as Adam
Adam A. Donaldson from Gwelph Politic Cast and and It's
on CFOU in ninety three point three, but also having
David Denyer join us as sort of twigs resident.
Speaker 2 (01:42:08):
Librarian and other movie guy.
Speaker 1 (01:42:10):
Having him on LuSE, Cannon and Ram has been a
wonderful addition to our team. We're gonna do more stuff
with JT in the future now that we've gotten his
recording situation all kind of sorted out. Obviously, working with
Ken has been a wonderful thing this year. Aaron and
Darlene with Earth Versus Soup. I know next year Alex
and Aaron will be taking more control of Loose, not
(01:42:33):
Luscannon a future imperfect. I'll pop on every now and again,
but that'll vastly be their show. And obviously I'll focus
on Ram and Loose Cannon and me and Alex will
always keep doing the main show because that's sort of
our main drive. And yeah, I mean, honestly, we had
a pretty good.
Speaker 2 (01:42:49):
Year at TWIG this year.
Speaker 4 (01:42:51):
Yeah, not quite as many interviews as we've done in
the past, but maybe that'll change up because it's been
sort of like what ebbs and flows.
Speaker 1 (01:42:57):
Right, Yeah, it's basically when I get interesting people from
the tt RPGs.
Speaker 2 (01:43:02):
Basically, that's sort of.
Speaker 1 (01:43:02):
Where I'm finding my niche right now, and I'm very
comfortable in that. Speaking of t t RPGs, I guess
the physical version of the book I wrote comes out
next month, the twenty third Century Campaign Guide for Star
Trek Adventure, So go check that out. Hopefully I'll have
more stuff in the future. And yeah, I guess any
(01:43:23):
year end thoughts from you, Ken, and then we'll let
Alex have the final word.
Speaker 3 (01:43:29):
I mean, honestly, the Game Awards is always a great
end of the year kind of kick off. And yeah,
looking forward to some the loose cannon and ram stuff.
We've got some really interesting conversations banked already that you're
gonna hear over the holidays, and yeah, happy holidays to everyone,
(01:43:56):
and we'll see you back at some point.
Speaker 1 (01:44:01):
Yeah, I'm looking forward to Kenny emotionally destroying me with
more anime. Uh, Alex, what do you got as your
final thoughts this year?
Speaker 4 (01:44:08):
Uh? Hey, hey, hey, hey, spoke we every day, which
is which just I'm kidding, but I'm kidding sort.
Speaker 3 (01:44:17):
Of technically I can too, but I.
Speaker 4 (01:44:20):
Mean the difference is I can just go to the
store and be like, give me that and then just
start walking around of public right there's.
Speaker 3 (01:44:26):
I mean I can do that. I just have to
go up to the other to the town one over.
Speaker 4 (01:44:33):
So I guess the difference is we could go do
that while we go to vote at a federal election
in a federal building. That's that's the difference right there.
Speaker 3 (01:44:41):
Yeah, yeah, there, which.
Speaker 4 (01:44:42):
Which we don't but anyway, Uh, basically trying to take
it easy, stressful time of year, we don't find it
is our ship for everybody, YadA YadA, Tariffs, taxes, inflation,
all that jug just you know, don't feel stressed and
forced to press people by like I gotta get them
a give. Just do what comes from the heart and
(01:45:05):
try to you know, try to live an easy calm,
you know, loving life, YadA YadA, all that fuzzy fuzzy
stuff that might could take us away. You know what
I'm saying.
Speaker 1 (01:45:15):
Yeah, yeah, So I guess as our final year in thought,
and much like I said at the year end twig Show,
this holiday season, be as kind as you can, too
many as you can. If you have the capacity, please
consider donating to your local food banks. Even better if
you can volunteer. Look in your organization, look in your
local communities. There are always organizations that need help. Cash
(01:45:39):
is king because it tends to go directly to people
who directly need it. But just spread love and kindness
as much as you possibly can this year, because I
think that's the most important thing. Obviously when Christmas happens,
if you're gonna spend it alone, you can always reach
out to us on so social media. I'm sure we'll
(01:46:01):
always be willing to say hi hello, but we are
always with you.
Speaker 2 (01:46:04):
We'll always have tons of content.
Speaker 1 (01:46:06):
So as much as we like to say we are available,
that parasocial thing is there, and we will always reach
out and say hi and hello to you. But I
think the most important thing to remember this year, especially
in such politically turbulent times, I will say, is be
excellent to each other as much as you possibly can.
(01:46:28):
So as you go into twenty twenty six, have your
heads held, I your controllers charged, and hey, hey, hey,
spoke weed every day. So anyway, we are out of here.
So for this week in Geek from New Jersey, we.
Speaker 3 (01:46:40):
Have been Ken from Theme from.
Speaker 1 (01:46:43):
Kitchener Hell's the producer, and I've been Mike the Birdman,
saying be excellent to each other, Happy holidays, and we
will see you with our next live show two thousand.
Speaker 5 (01:46:56):
Boo boo boo boo boo boo boo boo boo boom
boom boom boom boom boom boom boom boom boo boom
boom boom boom boom boom boom boom boom boom boom
boom boom boom boom boo boom boo boom boo boom
boom boom boom boom boom boom boom boom boom boom
boom boom boom boom boo boo boom boo boo boo
(01:47:16):
boom boom boom boom boom boom boom boom boom boom
boom boo boom boom boo boo boo boo boo boom.
Speaker 4 (01:47:25):
At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you
even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought.
Speaker 7 (01:47:36):
