(00:00):
Really he ate our Thanksgiving turkey rawturkey sushi. Everyone has been destroyed because
of its freak. I won't allowit. These babies are say this sleep
that funday or double gu don't gopower double that are alive. You're coming
(00:42):
with me. One stand one fallI brought with your life so reckless.
One stand one fall waite fu shiday no day day. Let me do
right up? Hey, guys, what's going on? You are listening to
(01:15):
this weekend geek dot Net. I'myour host, Mike the Birdman, But
I'm not alone as we truck intowell, it's gonna be the American Thanksgiving
this week for us, it's justanother week in November. But I'm not
alone as we kind of just kindof enjoy this transitional weather period where's finally
starting to feel like winter fall ishadjacent from the city of Kitchener. I'm
(01:38):
joined with Alex the producer, who'sfinally not boiling because oh yeah, Like
I'm in a building that is likesixty years old that has boiler heaters and
it's they're on a timer. Theyturn them on because we can't control individual
heat for our apartments because it's anolder building, right, it's just boiler
heated. They turn on the boilers. I think it's like by the last
(02:04):
week of October and we had liketwenty one degree celsius weather for like a
week, and with the events onthat met my apartment literally was twenty nine
or between twenty nine and thirty fourdegrees celsius. It's like I can't sleep,
but I also can't use an airconditioner at that time. So literally
the last two days of the firstnights where I was like, oh,
(02:27):
it's kind of chilly, I shouldclose the window. It's like, thank
god. Yeah. Here in Guelf, where like I currently reside, my
heat has been on alex nowhere ofa lie since the end of August.
For some bloody fucking reason, ithas been terrible in terms of heat.
But this week has been so bad. I'm enjoying these last couple of weeks
(02:51):
before the snow comes, just toget out in my wheelchair. However,
that being said, I have discoveredin the last few weeks cold really affects
the wheelchair life on my battery,so I can't go as far anywhere.
Before I could drive across the citytwenty twenty five kilometers on a really really
good day. Now I'm lucky toget four to seven kilometers. That's interesting
(03:16):
because you know how it is withother devices. Generally a cooler battery lasts
longer because it doesn't overheat. Yeah, it's so strange because like I've just
noticed my battery just it just justjust go as far. Do you think
it's the battery or could it bethe motor itself is struggling more with with
not freezing. But like you knowhow things get a little more stiff just
(03:38):
when it's cooler out right. Fromfrom what I've heard, it is a
common issue with wheelchairs during the wintertime. You just won't be able to
go as far due to the cold. But see, I have a solution
to this. You're a Bill godSide, You're a big Fallout fan,
right, Yeah, we need weneed a friend who is proficient with diesel
(03:59):
eng to like hook up like Idon't know what, one or two horse
power diesel lawnmower engine or something tothe back of your wheelchair so that in
the winter you have a winter tank. My god, that would be so
much fun. I would have theyou just I think then we just put
like a plow and and and tanktreads on the side of you so you
can go out in the winter.I would be the Brotherhood of Steel mobility
(04:25):
device, and I can deal withdrive up and down the road, plowing
everybody's thing for for petty cash yeplike I will plow. I will plow
lane ways for Poke, for Pope, for poke, Pokemon cards. So,
as we often do, off thetop of each and every show,
we talk about the week that isand was for us in our personal lives.
(04:46):
And this week has been a rathermixed bag for me, uh in
some really fantastic ways. So Ihad a doctor's appointment uh this week,
and that meant I had to goout of the house go deal with that,
and uh, my wife Blair, didn't come with me. So I
went out, ran my doctor's appointment, ran my errands, and I come
home and I run into one ofmy other best friends, Jordan, at
(05:12):
my house and I'm thinking the hell. And he's got this big thing,
a cardboard he's carrying out of thehouse. I'm thinking, I don't remember
opening anything, Okay, I don'tremember Blair putting cardboard in the house.
Oh my god, he's been tryingto rob you this whole time. So
I come in, I drive intothe apartment and he has built this over
(05:36):
the bed desk for me, andI'm actually broadcasting from that thing right now.
And this is the most comfortable thingI've ever had. So I have
my microphone mounted on my desk now, one hundred percent mounted that I can
swivel it, I can swerve it, I can adjust it however I want.
(05:57):
My posture is proper. I havea place where I can mount power.
Alex Is, actually you're helping meget some USB power to this thing.
So looking forward to Cyber Monday.Yeah, Like if anybody out there
right now looking, a lot ofthe deals are for these cookie cutter,
very shady Chinese companies where they justput a bunch of random letters in their
(06:18):
name. It'd be like scissor Power, and you're like, what the hell
is that? Well, it's it'sthese are things that don't really pass proper
safety inspections and they throw them outon Amazon Marketplace for dirt cheap right before
Black Friday, hoping they can scamyou. The real deals will obviously start
either on Thanksgiving Thursday or Black Fridayslash Cyber Monday. So if you see
(06:43):
something that's too good to be true, and you don't know the name brand,
maybe don't buy it just yet.Yeah, so he built me this
desk, so now I've got everything. I actually have a bed for Beaker
and Dutch. On the one side, Beaker doesn't mind it. Dutch doesn't
seem to overly hate it. Infact, I've actually caught him in there
more than a couple of times. What's the difference between doesn't mind and doesn't
(07:08):
overly hate h Baker will just kindof like, oh, here's a bed,
Yay, I'm gonna cause trouble here, whereas Dutch is like, this
ain't so bad. I think I'mgonna hang out here for a while.
He hasn't slept in it a wholelot yet, although in the middle of
the night. Beaker has been aholy tear for the last two weeks.
He's been climbing on top of mycomputer trying to get behind my television,
(07:30):
so we had to build this barrierbehind the TV and hardboard and everything.
He's the fiend that tries to eatmy headphone cables. Is he going out?
Yes, No, he just wantsto get up there. For some
reason, we actually got up Isit the led lighting. We don't think
so, because we turned it offfor a week and we thought it was
that, and it's not that atall. He just wants to get up
(07:53):
there. So now we have myLord Draken helmet and my Master Chief helmet
up. They're occupying space. Hecan't get up anywhere, he can't get
behind the TV anymore, but hetries to get on top of my computer,
which thankfully we have bungee corded down. So we did that. And
then the other thing that happened forme this week this was actually I had
(08:16):
this incredible streak of good luck andthen bad luck and allow me to frame
this. So I was out todaygoing to grab stuff for Christmas baking,
which we're actually going to be talkingabout a little bit later on when we
talked about some of our reviews lateron in this show. And I was
coming out of the grocery store goingto seven to eleven to grab a drink
for the way home, and Iwas buying some Pokemon cards and a slurpee,
(08:39):
and my watch wasn't working with theI guess the cashier's paying thing,
the oh terminal, the wireless tapterminal, Yeah, the NFT NF whatever
it is NFC. Yeah, soand he's like, dude, don't worry,
(09:01):
I got you. And I'm like, oh my god, really,
and he's like yeah, because Ijust completed master set and I want to
see more people do it. I'mlike, oh my god, thank you
so much. So this guy paidlike twenty bucks. I'm like, dude,
thank you. Nerd. Oh yeah, nerd. Yeah, that was
cool. So I leave and justas I'm leaving, this older gentleman is
(09:26):
trying to get his car into thespace beside the seven eleven and he taps
me with it, like he actuallytapped the side where my AMPU, where
my amp where my amp pewputation is, and me and this woman just start
giving it to him because I'm like, you clearly like you were not paying
attention. I was clearly paying attention. I made sure I had plenty of
(09:50):
space behind him. It looked likehe was gonna let me through. And
then he starts backing up and hetaps me, and I feel my chair
start the tip a little bit,and I'm like pounding on his his trunk
saying dude, stop, and eventuallyhe comes out tries to apologize, not
in a particularly great manner, andeventually me and this woman we just kind
of get together and we just havea little chit chat and he's like,
(10:11):
hey, are you okay. I'mlike, yeah, I'm fine, just
a little bit shaken up. Butthat was what a weird way to go
from having a great data almost dying. Now, for any any of our
I guess product partners and friends outthere that listen to us, maybe it's
time that you used to start marketingand create a dash cam product specifically through
(10:35):
with chairs. And I don't meanjust like like a body cam. I
mean something that could go right onthe on the front of the chair,
just so you could be like, hey, cars stop backing into me.
You're gonna get sued. Well,I'm kind of wondering if there could be
a device that gets mounted to achair that would trigger those cameras that would
(10:58):
be like activate, like kind oflike an like ir strobe that said,
hey, there's an obstacle in yourway, do not approach, or something
like that. I mean, somebody'sprobably out there, you know what,
if we were to really dig deep, somebody in like the Raspberry Pie or
Linux space probably has you know, made some sort of algorithmic thing for like
(11:20):
the pie camera to do that becauseyou know it's going to be part of
that kind of community. Yeah,So I mean, other than that,
the only other thing that happened thisweek, I went to gwelf. You
are you are fine? Right?Oh yeah, yeah, I'm fine.
Just came home. I was alittle bit shaken up. Yeah yeah,
a little shaken up. So otherthan that, my week concluded. I
went to gwelf Spoken Word, whichis the poetry slam that I attend that's
(11:45):
been going for fifteen years. Thewoman who started at BA Beth and retired
last night. She's passing it ondue to some other people. And it
was a pretty good slam last night. Unfortunately, I did not place in
the top three last night, sothe guy who won slam walked away with
a hundred bucks. Well, welldeserved win. And it's been incredible just
(12:13):
being a part of that community. It's my first time being back in a
couple of months, so I wentwith my friend Skyler and a couple of
others and it was a fairly goodtime. Other than that, I've been
playing some game sure review. Sohopefully next week I'll have RoboCop Rogue City.
I'm working on that right now,and I got a couple other games
on the go, and I wasable to get myself a copy of Mario
(12:35):
RPG. But since I wasn't provideda review copy, I can play that
on my own time, and Ican actually enjoy it because I never got
a chance to play the Super NintendoOriginal one back in the nineties. So
Alex, what about you, myfriend? What have you beout? If
you were listening to the show thispast week, it was a lot of
a few stuff I'm catching up on, mostly because I wanted to get reviews
or at least impressions out before BlackFriday, before the big rush happens.
(12:58):
Because it's one thing to have somethingcoming out this week, but when you
only have a few days, mostpeople are already thinking, you know,
purely of Thanksgiving in the States,or thinking of the shopping that happens after.
I wanted to get some of thatstuff out ahead of time. Most
of the people in my family aresick, not with COVID, surprisingly after
(13:20):
years of hearing that over and overagain, more with a nasty cold.
Yeah, there's a pretty bad flugoing around right now. Yeah, like
my mom, it's definitely a coldbecause it's not there's no fever involved,
which is what you get with theflu. But like she's been down and
out for almost two weeks. Mybrother's been out and he never gets sick.
My brother's been out for like Ithink five days now, and I
(13:41):
you know, I keep I sendhim text messages these day you dead?
Let me know are you dead?Because if I don't hear from you in
a day, I want to know, are you dead? And then if
I don't hear anything, I say, all right, if you don't respond
to me in an hour, Iget everything you own, including your cat
and dog, and then magically, about ten minutes later, I'll get a
message you can't keep my dog.So I mean they are sort of on
(14:05):
the men from what I hear now. Because of that, didn't really want
to go out because I had beenhearing that it had been you know,
not COVID, but just like areally bad, nasty, you know,
flew cold, whatever you want tocall it. I had been going around
with bad bronchitess, and I'm somebodywho's pretty susceptible to that. So I've
been avoiding that. I've just beenplaying and reviewing stuff as well as catching
(14:28):
up on some things I hadn't seenbefore. I, as you know,
fell out of Doctor Who fandom whenMatt Smith took over, simply because I
didn't like him. I didn't likethe writing, and I didn't, you
know, pinpointed at the time thewriting was okay, I guess the beginning
of the season, but it's becauseI didn't like that the new showrunners had
taken over. We're just not,in my opinion, quite as talented.
(14:50):
And I just didn't care for Matts. I just didn't find him believable.
I found him too goofy, beyondgoofy, and I was like, this
is not fun for me, soI stopped watching. Never saw Paul the
or yeah, Pauldie's Doctor. Mydad did. He kept watching the whole
way through, and Jody uh WhitmerWhitaker Whitaker, and I skipped all that
(15:18):
just because I was like, Iheard that that when she took over,
that the writing team had changed again, and it wasn't just me at that
point. Apparently everybody hated her runlike it was just really poor writing,
and then they lowered the budget. It was getting really really poor. But
then I had heard that David Tennantwas going to be returning this year for
three specials that I think one isairing this week and then I think the
(15:41):
following week and the week after that, leading into who's going to be the
fourth fifteenth or fourteenth? Fourteenth technicallyfourteenth or fifteenth, I don't know.
Yeah, yeah, so he's returned. He's technically the same doctor, but
not the same doctor. It's oneof those sorts of weird things. So
I went, you know what,I'm going to go back. I'm not
gonna watch all the stuff. Youknow, Capaldi might have had some good
(16:03):
stuff. I'm just not going tohave the time to go back and watch
all of it. But what Ido have the time to go back and
watch are the last three specials thataired last year with the previous doctor.
Because I knew it would lead intowhatever's happening now with David Tennant and as
well as Russell T. Davis returningas the showrunner who was the showrunner for
the first four seasons, plus themovies that David Tennant did. So I
(16:26):
went, okay, I'll watch thesethree. First two. I was like,
Okay, I can see it's alittle hokey. I'll say this right
now. I don't think she wasa great doctor. I've heard she had
some pretty cool moments, but thestories were very inconsistent. That's if I
can see that with the first twoand also her mannerisms, the way she
(16:47):
moved around looked very I don't know, like she wasn't. They weren't doing
very many takes. I'll say thatthey seem to settle a lot for the
performances, and that's just my opinion, but the doesn't seem to only be
my opinion. That seems to beEver, it doesn't mean they're not great
actors. So they're all people onthe on the team. They're good actress.
One guy kept freaking me out becausehe looked like and he was like,
(17:08):
what if what's his name? Uh? The Mickey blue Eyes? Uh?
Uh no, No, what's hisname? The dude that did h
oh, what's it called? TheBritish guy that was that was the bad
(17:32):
guy in uh in the the NewDungeons and Dragons movie, Jeremy Iren't No,
uh you Grant? What if HughGrant was Scottish? That was literally
it was creepy. But I waslike, okay, uh watched it.
The first two were Okay. Thethird one was a full hour and a
(17:53):
half special that was going to beleading into this and that was like the
big anniversary one, and it wasreally well done. It had like twice
the budget. It looked like theones from when David Tennant was there.
I'm like, oh, it's quiteclear that they're making this because this is
the Grand Taras. And then wefound out after that Disney bought a pretty
big steak in the production of thenext series. So I watched it.
I would suggest, Michael, Iknow you haven't watched everything. You sort
(18:17):
of stopped when Capaldi was in charge, right, I left about halfway through
Capaldi's run, So I wouldn't mindwatching those specials. So yeah, because
they just watch that because it's liketwo fifty minute specials. And then one
one and a half hour special. Is that the one where somebody gets turned
it into a cyberman or something they'retrying to I think I saw part of
(18:37):
that one. They're trying to turnthe doctor into a cyberman. Okay,
I think, and the Master returnsand they brought back every doctor that's still
alive from before the current series.Okay, so they had uh. I
believe it's the fifth Doctor, thesixth Doctor, the seventh Doctor, and
the eighth Doctor Who only did thenineteen ninety five TV movie Oh that's cool,
(19:03):
Yeah here where Eric Roberts was themaster. They that was the last
time that they When the series endedin eighty nine, they revived it by
having the Doctor comeback Sevester McCoy totry to like he does this whole transformation
into the you know, the nextDoctor. And they thought, Oh,
(19:23):
we're gonna do this big pilot. It's gonna be a big movie. And
then the movie tanked. Nobody else, nobody in the States had ever like
really seen Doctor Who on like amassive scale, unless you were, you
know, a big PBS nerd asour friends are. Whereas in Whereas in
Canada, CBCVO and EVO had locallylike or provincially TVO and then CBC on
(19:45):
the wider brug had always had broadcastrights to it, so we we grew
up with reruns of it in theearly nineties, even if we thought it
was hoky. So they brought backall the living doctors to do roles.
They even brought they did some sortof look alike person to make it lo
like the original Doctor from sixty threeand the Doctor sort of meeting them their
(20:06):
previous versions of themselves. And Iwon't spile too much except that some of
the some of the companions from thoseperiods come back. The two of the
most recent companions I mean by recent, I mean from the mid eighties and
late eighties come back, so likewhat's her face and some other people.
Ace has the most action and probablybecause she's the youngest. I think she's
(20:30):
like fifty nine or sixty, soyou know, she was actually able to
do a bunch of the actionity stuffrunning around because a lot of the other
companions are in their seventies and eighties, right, because especially like there's a
companion from like the Third Doctor init, right, which means that then
she's like ninety, so they aregonna make her do any action, but
(20:51):
they have them come back. Nobodyfrom the previous stuff that we would have
seen, you know, of themodern era. But that was sort of
the fun. It was like anod to the previos stuff. It's worth
watching, and obviously I wanted tosee it because I wanted to see the
transformation into into David Tennant, whotransforms into Tenant and it's just like I
know this face and he's like what, and he's like feeling his own face.
(21:15):
He's like what, and then itjust ends with what. And then
that's how it ends. And it'slike, now you got to wait a
year till now to figure out whathappened. But it is worth it.
It's worth watching a bigger budget.A lot of shit happening in it was
well worth the watch. I mightactually be back into Doctor Who again.
This is and I think this iswhat they're hoping for. Right, So
(21:37):
that's sort of been what I've beendoing outside of review stuff and getting prepped
for that. I planned to gosee some movies in theaters. Timing hasn't
worked out, so I haven't seenThe Marvels yet. I don't think I'm
going to. I think that's goingto be a streaming movie for me,
seeing is how bad it's doing.I just I can't bring myself to pay
money to see it. I sawit, and it's fine. If you
(22:00):
saw it on a matinee and yougot nothing else to do, it's fine.
Ye, Like maybe I can theyget worse ways to kill two hours?
Yeah, if I'm gonna do adouble feature, maybe I'm being go
see that, but I don't knowif not, and I do want to
see Thanksgiving. The hope is thatyou can find time to come see it
with me. If not, I'llprobably see it on my own because it's
got It's the only certified fresh EliRoth movie ever, which tells me what
(22:23):
I was like, what, Okay, I got to see this, and
beyond that, I want to seeNapoleon. Then I'm gonna go see Wish
the Disney movie. But a lotof the other stuff that I've been hoping
to see has been pushed back tonext year. So uh, that's pretty
much what I've been doing, allright. So guys, to give you
kind of a preview of what isgoing to be coming up in the show,
we were actually going to be changingthings up this week, so instead
(22:45):
of having our Weird News segment,Weird News has been a little quiet during
the last two weeks, so soduring our Weird New segment, we're going
to be taking a look at someof the Black Friday deals and some of
the things we want you guys tocheck out for Black Friday and Cyber Monday,
which will be coming up by thetime this show airs. In addition
to that, in terms of reviews, got something really cool which you can
(23:07):
get on Black Friday sale. We'regonna be talking about the Ninja Creamy,
which is a countertop appliance that makesice cream. You might be saying,
Mike, why this has been aremarkable tool in the Berry actric circles so
to make high protein, low sugarthings. And to give you a preview,
I can make Wendy's frosties at homefor a quarter of the calories.
(23:32):
Right now, I'm actually astounded howclose this thing tastes. And then we're
also gonna talk about the big elephantin the room that is now premiering on
streaming services as a Friday, We'regonna be talking about the new Scott Pilgrim
anime series. I had a chanceto preview that this last week before it's
wide release on Friday with Scott Pilgrimtakes off. We're gonna give my thoughts
into that. Please don't send hatemail. I guess what kind of scene
(23:56):
with that of certain critics like it. Yeah, so we will wait and
see what my thoughts are on that. And then Alex, what are we
going to be looking at from you? Well? As we enter into the
holiday gift guide season. You know, we always tend to look at things
that are a little different than wedo in the rest of the year.
And I had an opportunity to checkout a gaming computer chair from a company
(24:19):
called black Lights. It's a newerstartup company based in Canada, which is
always you know, you've already hittwo points for me. New company.
I always want to check out newstuff. Canadian company that's neat entering into
a space that we know is dominatedby, you know, only a handful
of very large companies. Like howhow when you watch a streamer out there
(24:40):
or you go around, how manypeople are using you know, Secret Lab
or d X Racers. Yeah,like they're almost always d X Racers or
those really heavily branded Secret lab ones. Yeah, it's basically those two maybe
a third in that space. Andthey're trying to enter into that space with
something maybe a little bit more economical. So I've got I've got to look
at their Athena chair. I hadto look at a pre released version that,
(25:06):
so my packaging was a little differentbecause I got it sort of before
anybody else did, so yay me. So all right, guys, so
we are gonna be taking a lookabout all that and more. But we
got two large stories to talk aboutin our news cycle this week. One
of them has been very hard toavoid, and we're gonna be talking about
that. So all right, guys, we will be right back here on
this weekend geek dot Net. Butbefore we do, we're gonna go to
(25:29):
the faraway land of Toronto and we'regonna gonna take a look at our Netflix
streaming series of Scott Pilgrim Takes Off. This is my review. We'll be
back guys right here on this weekin geek dot Net. I've been Mike
the Birdman. He's been als producer. We'll be back right after this.
(25:56):
Hey, guys, this is Mikethe Birdman here. We're here to talk
about something really cool. We gota chance to preview from our friends over
at Netflix. But you can nowwatch this if you want to check out
Scott Pilgrim Takes Off, which isan eight episode anime series that you can
now stream all the episodes all atonce right now. So I had a
chance to watch this over the courseof the last week or so, and
(26:18):
I've got a bit of a historywith the Scott Pilgrim franchise, one of
my old roommates used to be anextra in this movie, which means I
heard about this thing endlessly. ButI also really enjoyed the video game from
Ubisoft that came out not too longafterwards, and I had the privilege of
seeing anim Nagucci perform the entirety ofthe soundtrack in Toronto a couple of years
(26:41):
later, and it was a fantasticexperience. So I kind of have this
love hate relationship with the franchise. When I found out that Netflix was going
to do an anime adaptation of this, I was actually fairly excited because I've
only read the first three volumes ofthe manga, and then I kind of
fell off I saw the movie. It's only in the last couple of years
I've learned to appreciate for what itactually is and I was actually able to
(27:04):
really enjoy it. So when ScottPilgrim takes Off got announced, I'm like,
Okay, maybe I'm gonna see somethingI've never quite seen before. And
well, I definitely got that. And I want to say that I liked
it, but I kind of didn't. And maybe I'm not the audience for
this because maybe I don't have thenostalgia goggles for this that a lot of
(27:26):
people did around the late two thousandsand the early twenty and tens. And
it's not to say Scott Pilgrim TakesOff is bad, because the first couple
of episodes definitely do their best tostick very close to the source material.
But then what you get is acomplete herd swerve. And I don't want
to say too much more about itbecause it's gonna kind of ruin the experience
(27:48):
for a lot of people coming in. But if you're expecting a straight up
adaptation of the material, you arenot getting that from what I understand,
and it's not entirely a bad thing. There are moments that are very interesting,
and I'm very happy how they takethe approach at looking of some of
the evil exes and kind of fillingin their kind of backstory. I'm particularly
(28:11):
fond of the Roxy Richter one,the Lucas Lee one. There's actually kind
of a neat homage to Tony Hawkpro Skater in there, which I think
is a particularly well done scene. But for the most part, this seems
very focused on Ramona Flowers as playedby the original actress, and that's something
else too. This unites everybody whowas in the original, so Michael,
(28:33):
Sarah, Mary, Elizabeth Winstead,Kieran Culkin, Brandon Rouse, Jason Schwartzman,
blah blah blah. The list goeson everybody's back, and everybody turns
in a fairly decent performance. Thereare ones where it feels like it's a
little bit, you know, kindof sleepy at times, but the thing
definitely looks the part. This feelslike a like an animated version of the
(28:56):
manga For Better or for Worse,And it's not the same that it's bad
because it's really not looking wise. There are some pretty cool scenes in this,
but other times it just it feelsa little bit off to me,
And I really wish I was inthat camp that would say, oh my
god, this is so amazing. You have to watch it right here,
right now. Your life will notbe complete. And this offers a different
(29:19):
adaptation of the Scott Pilgrim world thatI've heard other reviewers call it kind of
a remix and a weird analogy.I'm gonna give to this. It's kind
of like with Neon Genesis Evangelion, how they would take the characters and they'd
remix them like in the Rebuild moviesor in the video games like Girlfriend of
(29:41):
Steel, Like, here's the charactersthat you know and love, but we're
gonna change things while maintaining a basicplot. It's familiar elements but different directions,
and that's what Scott Pilgrim takes offvery much does with this. You
do get a familiar ish story, but not the one you necessary signed up
for, and I have a feelingsome people may be surprised by that.
(30:06):
Other things to note here, Ido wish there was more Animana Gucci soundtrack
in this, but I wanted moreof the stuff from the video game.
So maybe I went in with maybethe wrong expectations for this, and maybe
that's on me entirely. The thingI do like about this, though,
is the way this ends. Ithink getting there is a bit of a
(30:27):
trick, just because you're gonna findout what I'm me and around episode three,
probably episode three, and going onto about episode six or seven,
you're gonna be asking, Okay, where is X. And like I said,
it's interesting how this ends and howit all kind of wraps up in
(30:48):
the message that it's trying to giveyou, and maybe it's worth it.
For that, I'm gonna say,as for watching this, if you have
a Netflix subscription, why not.Right. If you're a super fan,
odds are you've already watched this showand you're already done with it, and
my review means nothing to you.But if you're curious about the world of
Scott Pilgrim, what I'm gonna sayis this, watch the movie from twenty
(31:15):
ten, then read the manga, then watch this, and if you really
wanted to, you could probably putin the video game in there too,
because honestly, you could beat thatin just just a few hours and it's
one of the best games out thereright now. There's a there's even a
limited edition version of the game thatyou can pick up from Limited Run Games,
(31:36):
and I think that's still available atleast on the secondary market anyhow,
and it is worth it. Soyeah, what can I say ultimately about
Scott pogram Takes Off. I'm gonnasay it's for super fans only. I
liked part of my time with it, but I didn't love it. I
did find myself throwing up my handsmore than a few times saying, okay,
what is this? But again me, maybe I'm not the audience for
(32:00):
this, and I say this asa person who virtually lived and breathed this
whole thing for the better part ofa year of my life. So maybe
that's coloring my review of this, but I will say there are elements of
this that are genuinely enjoyable. Someof the performances are really really well done,
and I do like how give someof the characters a little bit more
(32:21):
depth. So once again, thankyou to our friends over at Netflix for
sending this over this to us,and hopefully we'll be taking a look at
more stuff from our friends at Netflixas we move on in the twenty and
twenty four. Take my hand, the girl of my dreams. You want
(32:45):
to go out sometime. You wantto go on a date with me?
You like him? The Prime Ministerof Sweden visited Washington, and my tiny
little nipples went to France. Gossip, rumors, panic in the streets.
(33:05):
We're lucky this weekend geek New andwelcome back to this week in geek Net.
I'm Mike the Berman. He's Alexiproducer, and it's time to talk
about the news that happened this pastweek around the entertainment industry of the world
of geek and all the things thatwell typically matter because hey, we're nerds,
dorks, geeks, and dweebs, all right. So this first story
comes courtesy of Ghostbustersnews dot Com.Dark Horse Comics announces Ghostbusters Back in Town,
(33:30):
bridging the story between Afterlife and FrozenEmpire. It's been a while since
we've received an update on the upcomingGhostbusters compilcuation from dark Horse, but in
today's news, stemming from a screenrand exclusive, fans have not only been
given a new sneak peak, butalso have full reveal of the talented team
behind the miniseriies and the release datefor issue one, bridging the gap between
(33:52):
Ghostbusters After Life and next year's Frozensequel, Frozen Empire. David Boer will
pen the four issue mini series, with Blue dela Quante providing art. Well
Mildred Lewis and Chris Peter will handlecolors for issue one. The standard color
will be done by Kyle Lambert, with a variant cover created by Steve Morris,
with a first look featured below togive a description of this. You
(34:15):
see the San Francisco Bridge, Yousee the ecdo one. Paul Rudd's character
Calli the Little Girl, character andyou get the cee Ernie Hudson as Winston
in front of the firehouse in NewYork, it says. Given the title
of Ghostbusters Back in Town, themini series will follow Calli, Gary Trevor,
(34:39):
and Phoebe's move to New York Cityto ensure a faithful adapt in.
The filmmaking duo of Jason Rightman andGil Keenan have overseen the project, with
Rightman telling a screen at quote ourforendsic Dark Horse have picked up the Spangar
family and hand delivered them to Manhattanwhere they will begin a journey into ghostbusting.
It has been a personal thrill tocollaborate with this incredible group artists and
(35:00):
storytellers on this new chapter in theProton Jungle. Earlier this year, as
part of the as part of theannual Ghostbusters Day celebration, artists Blue de
la Quante provided our first sneak peekat the comics, showing off the animated
renditions of the Spingler family along withGary Gruberson. Ghostbusters Back in Town will
be available on comp book shelves beginningMarch twenty seventh, twenty twenty four,
(35:23):
mere days before Ghostbusters Frozen Empire Landsin theaters on Easter weekend. That's pretty
cool. I'm really glad to seethis. Sounds like it's gonna be quote
unquote officially cannon. But when itcomes to stuff like this, if it's
not on the screen, it's typicallynot. But I'm totally fine with this.
I think it's cool. It's notlike they're gonna fight Gozer in between
(35:45):
their adventures. That will probably justdetail how they moved, how they got
there. It's basically just gonna fillin the stuff that dorks like me really
kind of care about, like howdid they move, did they find anything
else? Did Egon leave any surprisesbehind at the dirt Farm? So to
speak? And it looks cool.I can't wait to see what some of
(36:07):
the other covers are going to looklike, because I guarantee you they'll be
retailer exclusives for sure. If Ihad to guess, a, probably Egon
probably left some Stecer stuff at theNew York base without them even knowing.
Yeah, Like, my guess isthey're going to go into the bottom of
the firehouse. They'll find Egon's laband it's gonna be like Calli's birthday unlocks
(36:31):
a safe and like, here's aslime blower that has like super slime in
it and stuff like that, becausesupposedly there was a video showing I think
it was on Instagram the other daywhere I think it was the London Ghostbusters
got a chance to go behind thescenes because that's where where they film part
of Frozen Empire, and I thinka slime blower was seen on set.
(36:53):
The proton packs have been getting abit of a modification, so we're probably
gonna see some pretty new equipment designs. We we know for sure some of
the older cast is going to bein it. Well for all we know,
you know, don't ever put inthe past Akroyd and crew to want
to put layer upon layer a thingwhere you know, they could be like,
(37:15):
oh, you know, Egon's gothis little lab down here, and
then they'll be like, what's what'sin the sub level below that? And
they'll be like what do you meanwhat's sub level below that? And like
something where akroy doesn't even know thatyou know, yeah, there's a second
basement that he worked on or something, you know what I mean, there
could be stuff that that you know, because he spent like twenty years or
(37:36):
twenty five years being all conspiracy theorythat right, So oh yeah like that
and they could easily and how theycould find something like that could easily be
something like they go to you know, his old apartment or something and they're
like they find the key and they'relike, what is this key open?
And then there's they'd be like,oh, there's a lock hole within Egon's
(37:57):
locker and when they turn that,it opens a door. Yeah. Like
I was listening to some podcast interviewsand just other things talking about the Ghostbusters
Frozen Empire trailer, and I knowone of the guys in it has sayg
This movie has been described as along episode of the Ghostbusters cartoon, especially
(38:21):
with the Red Park, as theRed Parks were seen during episodes of the
cartoon. There's been like other piecesof equipment that have been seen. I
know during After Life there was theeyeball ghost, which was a direct reference
to one of the Kenner toys.In fact, one of the first toys
that I ever owned. So itwouldn't surprise me, Alex if your theory
(38:43):
about Egon's lab if they put anEaster egg to the unproduced Kenner toy that
was prototyped appears in the movie. In fact, that would make me tremendously
happy, just for them to putin stuff like maybe they put in the
ghost popper for fun, or theweird thing that Vankman uses where he's like
(39:06):
squeezing it and it like measures airpressure or something like that. I remember
that thing. Yeah, yeah,So it wouldn't surprise me if you see
more toy Easter eggs in it,or if they bring in something from like
what would really please me. Therewas a series of figures called Fright Features.
We had squeeze their arms, squeezetheir legs, and their faces or
(39:27):
their bodily functions would take on ascared appearance. It wouldn't surprise me if
you see a version of Egon suitappear on a wall or something say oh,
yeah, that was prototyped but wecould never get it to work right,
or something like that. That wouldbe a funn east egg for me.
There'll be something or or you knowwhat, I would love to even
(39:49):
if they were like, oh,what's this, It'd be like, Oh,
it's our our disguise or costumes fromlike Halloween or something, and then
just have the wig for Egon bethe giant pompadour. Yes, I would
love be like, what's that andbut like they show that and then the
joke be that, oh it's BillMurray wore that. Instead, there is
(40:10):
one thing stupid, like I thinkit put stuff like that and they're easily
and make it a joke. Ohyeah, like one thing that would slay
me, even if it was apost credit scene for fun. In the
original toy line, there was somethingcalled the Highway Haunter and it was a
yellow convertible and it was kind oflike a Volkswagen Bug kind of but it
(40:31):
didn't have a roof on it,and it turned into like a praying mantis
sort of thing. And it wasalways in my mind it was always marketed
as like Janine's Ghostbuster car. Iwould love to see that make an appearance.
That'd be kind of fun. So, I mean, I'm really looking
forward to fro to Frozen Empire.Like like just like Mention comes out Non
(40:52):
Eastern, just don't don't bring ina fun slimmer unless you're gonna make it
good. Yeah, Like I've Iwas listening to Kevin Smith and Mark Bernardin
on their Fat Man Beyond podcasts andthey were saying the trailer does one thing
right about it. They don't advertiseit as this is a movie that will
(41:15):
redefine your childhood and you need tosee it. They're like, it's a
fun sequel like movies were in theeighties and nineties. It was just a
sequel that told a story. Itdoesn't need to be Avengers Endgame level of
epicness. It's just, hey, here's something cool, here's Ghostbusters, and
that's all that needs to be exactly. So, this next story has taken
(41:37):
on some legs, so to speak, and a lot of people have opinions
in the community regarding this, andwe hear a twig are of the mind.
The accusations look pretty strong. Theevidence is certainly there, and if
the evidence wasn't as strong as itis, outlets would not be reporting for
(42:00):
fear of being sued. Actions speaklouder than words and opinions. Yes,
so this article comes courtesy of IgM, but has been reported by multiple outlets
in the last couple of week orso. So YouTuber the Completionist Open Hand
Foundation, accused of keeping charitable donationsmore than six hundred thousand dollars has been
(42:22):
raised. So the article I'm readingwas updated on November fourteenth. The Open
Hand Foundation, charity which YouTuber TheCompletionist has a quote active role and has
been accused of keeping public donations despiteclaiming the money is being spent on dementia
research. YouTubers Carl Jobs and someordinary gamers uploaded videos of their investigation into
(42:44):
Gerard Careell, better known online asthe Completionists, and his charity, Open
Hand Foundation. The pair allege thatthe open Hand Foundation, which was founded
by the Completionist's father, Charles Khalil, in memory of his wife Karine,
in which the YouTuber says as foursiblings, play a quote active role.
According to the website, currently hasmore than six hundred thousand dollars in donations
(43:07):
untouched in a bank account and hasno evidence of paying that money forward to
organizations working against dementia. This comesdespite the Complete Sense, who boasts one
point sixty three million subscribers on YouTube, running yearly fundraising events called indie Land,
in which online personalities and celebrities cometogether to raise money directly for the
Open Hand Foundation. Quote indie Landis a celebration of indie games with a
(43:30):
mission to raise money for this charity. Over a thirty hour span with tons
of developers, influencers, and popculture icons dropping in for the cause.
The website reads, quote all proceedsearned during this event go to the Open
Hand Foundation, the completionists has saidduring these streams, the money raise goes
to quote organizations all over the world, as such as the University of California's
(43:52):
San Francisco's, the Alzheimer's Association, and quote so many more. Of The
open Hand Foundation is an listed asa partner or donator or donor rather on
the Alzheimer's Association website, and whilethe University of California's San Francisco doesn't keep
a list of donors, nothing onits website suggests a connection to the Open
(44:14):
Hand Foundation. According to Carl Jobsand some ordinary gamers, publicly available tax
filings show the charity has raised sixhundred and fifty five thousand, five hundred
and twenty dollars since its inception, but has donated none of that, despite
recording tens of thousands of dollars inquote or sorry in administrative expenses. Only
(44:35):
four years of tax filings were availablewhen IGN attempted to verify those details.
On the United States Internal Revenue servicewebsites from twenty sixteen, twenty seventeen,
twenty eighteen, and twenty twenty. When asked for an explanation by Carl Jobs,
the Completionis's brother, Jacques Khalil, said the Open Hand Foundation was quote
taking a vigilant approach to selecting whoshould receive the money and has been evaluating
(45:00):
potential beneficiaries a law who align withour vision since it's forming. While the
Open Hand Foundation claims to have beenoperating since two thousand and three, it
was registered as a nonprofit or organizationin twenty fourteen. Quote. Prior to
our official registration as a foundation,we donated body parts for research, made
(45:22):
financial constributions to an institution that,in our view, made insufficient progress in
the fight against these debilitating conditions. This prior experience has taught us the importance
of careful consideration in our partnerships andis the reason why we continue to search
for a proper partner and recipient ofour donations end quote. The Open Hand
(45:43):
Foundation is therefore claiming it hasn't donatedany of the raised funds because it has
spent the past nine years searching fora worthy partner to receive that money.
This comes despite the completist claim thatduring the Indie land streams that it has
actively supported charities and for example,is one of the quote main funding supporters
or sorry support partners of the Universityof California, San Francisco. As part
(46:07):
of the larger response to Carl Jobs, Jacques Colley denied any wrongdoing. Quote.
While we understand the necessity of duediligence in cheeritable engagements, this insinuation
of wrongdoing on the part of theOpen Hand Foundation is both unwarranted and unfounded,
he said, quote we conduct ouroperations within the bounds of legal and
(46:27):
ethical standards, and any implications ofthe condrear is baseless. Our foundation has
always acted in good faith and wetake suggestions of any impropriety very seriously.
We stand firm in our record andintegrity. Carl Jobs and some ordinary gamers
also provided audio of what is claimedto be a call with the completioness himself
quote I knew the money was sittingthere at a certain point, and that's
(46:49):
what made me proactively go about it, the speaker. Allegedly, the completionist
said, quote I was made awarein twenty twenty one that the money hadn't
moved yet, and that's what mademe go, that's not fucking cool.
That's when I got personally involved tomove it, and not twenty twenty one.
Last year, twenty twenty two,the speaker added quote, I assumed
it was all going to a charity, and I assumed incorrectly. Despite this,
(47:13):
the completion has said in a twentytwenty three stream that the Open Hand
Foundation was contributing to various or ororganizations, which Carl Jobs and some ordinary
gamers alleged he knew otherwise. IGennis reached out to the to the completions,
University of California, San Francisco, and the Alzheimer's Association for comment.
(47:34):
Well with it nine years about gettingvery sweary, I'll say that it's complete
bullshit in my opinion, as ajournalist, if you verify your sources,
and again these are citizen journalists. But if they have the evidence with tax
filings, if they if the audiois indeed verifiable, they have some serious
(47:57):
things well on their hands. Ihave with this reading into a few things
here. One, if you actuallylook at the paper, because it's a
nonprofit, they have to publish theirtheir internal documents, and their their tax
you know, all of their taxpapers everything. They haven't even filled them
out properly. I'd like to knowwhere all these administrative fees are going.
(48:21):
If the money's not moving, well, they're they're saying that they're well,
they're they're saying that no money hasbeen used, But that doesn't account for
certain things they they on the actualtax filings. They haven't even filled out
stuff. You know that it hasn'teven been signed by anybody certifying their documents.
(48:42):
So if you make the argument ofwe're being ignorant, you could still
be held liable and have criminal chargesplaced against you for fraud, not just
in holding the money, but fornot actually hiring somebody that can properly deal
with the paperwork properly, because there'sentirely like is this being used as a
(49:02):
slush fund? Is this is thisbeing held on to as a backup for
if the completionist's career knows dives andhe wants to just have a golden parachute
of a million dollars. Now Iwouldn't go that far in my personal opinion,
but why would be? What Ihave the problem problem is if this
(49:23):
wasn't discovered would they have ever saidanything? And would this have just continued
to rise till it hit millions? Now. I've worked with charities before,
I'm actually working with one right now. And my question is, if you've
been handling this money since its inceptionof twenty fourteen as part of your administrative
(49:44):
costs, why would you not behiring a consultant that you trust, that
has a verifiable background and proven trackrecord of Okay, we're going to donate
the money into these places. We'regoing to do so much here, so
much there. Now. One ofthe things that I've seen floating around with
this is we didn't want to donatepiecemeal at the time because little amounts don't
(50:06):
do much. They raised like onehundred k in like the first year,
yeah, like. And my argumentwith that is it would have done good
then as opposed now because that moneyhas been reduced. Here's an example.
If you in twenty let's say, let's say it might be a litlefit.
Let's say you raised a million dollarsin twenty fourteen. It's not the amount,
(50:29):
but let's say you did and youheld on to it till now.
Your money is worth about half asmuch buying power exactly. That's what I'm
saying that because of the inflation, they've actually lost money. The companies and
these research companies and charities and organizationsand research facilities have lost money because you
(50:50):
didn't donate the money when you weresupposed to. Yeah, And it comes
with a belief that within a timelymanner, let's say twelve months, within
twelve months of raising money, you'reexpected to pay it. And if they
want to make the argument that we'rewhen your first line of defense is we've
done everything within the bounds of thelaw. That says to me that you
(51:13):
are trying to cover your ass tosay, hey, we didn't do anything.
We didn't do what we were supposedto do, but you can't come
after us because we didn't do anythingtechnically illegal. Yeah, Like when they
said we've done everything within legal andethical boundaries, sure something. Yeah,
Like if you don't have anything tohide, then why did this take so
(51:34):
long? Again, like I want, I'm will into bet if this was
not brought up, we would havebeen another ten years and we went til
somebody would have said, hey, where's the money going, and that they
would have been even worship The onlyreason they're going to donate the money now,
I'm I am ninety percent sure. The only reason they're donating money now
is because they got caught, andwhether he had anything to do with it
(51:57):
is his family. You can ignorance, You cannot feign ignorance for ten years.
Yeah, like maybe one of thedefenses. And again, working in
charity, you know what, youwant to spend a year looking for somebody?
Sure? Why not two years?Okay, you're kind of stretching it,
but okay, sure, you wantto be really sure. Three Now
(52:20):
we have to have a conversation oror if you say, and if they
want to make the excuse, andthey haven't yet, but if they want
to say we wanted to raise onemillion first, then you should have said
that mm hmmm, because that wouldhave probably increased people donating too. But
the fact that you've just been hushhush. And then there's the website has
misspellings on it, like it's noteven proper English, and there's missing words
(52:43):
and things are spelt wrong on theirwebsite. Two, they're actively collecting under
the false guys that they're actively donating, they're not. They're just using it
as some sort of savings funded it'sprobably in some bank account, earning money
in a savings account. Yeah,Like, I would like to see what
(53:05):
the results of a true financial auditwould look like, because because if it's
just sitting in a bank account, accruing money or being used to invest for
the fund, then you're actually forprofit. Then you're not a nonprofit.
Yeah. Like I know with certainorganizations that I work with, you can
take a certain percentage of the money, at least within the province of Ontario,
(53:28):
and you can invest it in certainthings for it to gain money so
you can then do more with it. That's okay, but you have to
declare it the point you have tobe completely transparent, and it's going to
be a different state by state inthe States too. But the point of
a nonprofit is within a year, your mandate is to have made money to
donate within that year unless otherwise statedthat. That is like, if they're
(53:52):
saying that, hey, nothing inthe law says we can't do this is
your excuse, then I would askyou. Are you saying that there is
not a single organization in nine toten years that was worthy. Yet other
companies have been doing research like thisin the last three to four years.
(54:15):
We have seen multiple episodes of sixtyminutes, multiple episodes up here in Canada
of twenty twenty or W ORW fiveand other investigative shows where they discuss major
advances that they've done in Alzheimer's research. How come your money didn't go to
them? Yeah, like there's beenthere have been breakthroughs with companies that you
(54:37):
could have in the last three orfour years. Even just watched TV and
went, hey, they did abreakthrough. What research facility is that they're
looking for money? Well, wecan give them the money. No,
you did nothing, and nothing intheir books says that they were looking for
anybody. Yeah, Like that's mybig question too. If you've spent nine
years sitting on this money, wherewere your consult since where were your partners
(55:00):
within these research or organizations saying hey, we need the money to make this
happen. And this was a priorityfor the completionists. And he may be
a nice guy. People say thatpeople might like him. They may think,
oh, he can't do this becauseno, bullshit, Because he had
(55:22):
enough foresight and forethought during the pandemicwhen everybody was sitting at home and weren't
able to go and do it anythingto start planning out multiple things as shows.
He came back, did G fourwhatever left there. He spent plenty
of time coming up with grand schemesand projects, like buying every single thing
on the e shop before it closed. Remember that big project he was by
(55:44):
that took a lot of foresight andthought and planning and effort and logistics and
research. And he didn't do jackshit with this money that was sitting in
for a charity that he's been shillingfor. Yeah, like my big thing
bulls and found out in one wellthat's before he did all these stunts on
YouTube. Yeah, like, thisis something that reachs of negligence. Did
(56:07):
that question? Check the bank accounts? Did that fund his his big eat
shop purchases? Because you can't trustanybody when they do this. He he
has lost trust. And if anybodyis blindly defending somebody, actions speak louder
than words prove us wrong. Yeah, Like, I want all the records
(56:28):
to be surrendered without question to theirs, to a professional, financial,
unaffiliated third party auditor and say, okay, if if we did nothing wrong,
then we have nothing to hide. And at the very least, you
know, at this point, contactone of the major hospitals that's doing research
(56:51):
on it, and maybe just haveone shot from what one shot from them,
or you know what, or we'retrying to find one place. It's
not just one place. You knowwhat you should do? You should It
takes a day to look up onlineworldwide, not just in the States,
but worldwide. What are the fiveleading you know, leading research hospitals and
(57:14):
research firms that are doing the mostAnd if I made the most progress with
Alzheimer's invention research and cut a checkfor one point two uh, you know,
one hundred and twenty five thousand dollarsto each Yeah, or maybe have
a prominent research scientist say, okay, we're going to work with you for
the period of I don't know howeverlong it takes to donate this money where
(57:35):
it needs to go. And thatwould go a long way to making me
feel better. But at the sametime, your trust has been eroded.
Your biggest problem is even if he'sgood, what this yes and what the
shines of light on is if heis completely innocent, what that tells me
is his family or devious? Yeah, and it's this family in charge of
(57:59):
it, nobody else in charge ofit. You're telling me that they didn't
communicate. They didn't communicate for sevenyears to him, that they were holding
onto money he raised and that hedidn't and that he was continuing to raise,
and that they never spent it.That never came up in a conversation
with family when you're running a business. This is why a lot of times
family should not be running your business. Yeah, exactly like this. There
(58:20):
should have been more professionals on board. There should have been people who were
from the charitable sector saying, hey, here's what we need to do.
And again, guys, we're justgonna say this is our opinion. We're
not saying this that or the otherthing. It's not a good look,
and we want it's how long thenegligence happened, Yeah, exactly, like
(58:42):
that's inexcusable. A decade? Comeon, and you could say, oh
my bad might okay, fine, then you should divorce yourself of all business
dealings with anybody that had their handson that money. Yeah. And if
you go, well, that's myfamily, then I'd say, then why
should we trust you to do anythingever again? Because you may be ignorant,
(59:05):
but you can't play everybody else forfools. You know, fool me
once, you might get away withus once. He will never be able
to ask for charity money and he'llnever be able to do an Extra Life
run because why would we Because everysingle comment on his live streams are going
to be where's the money going?I can say, as someone who's run
(59:29):
Extra Life, I'm trying to remember, I'm trying to remember how that works.
He raise money and it goes intoa fund. There's different ways,
but I'm using it as an exampleof yeh, he tries to do a
charity run, a charity stream thathe doesn't go directly well, even he'll
have to show who's going to Idon't know if he'll be able to do
(59:49):
live streams from now and because forcharities at all, because the entire it'll
be taken over in chat. It'lljust be people trolling him about what's he
doing with the money, and thatpoint it distracts from what they're trying to
do. So he you know, hey, you know, hope you made
your money, buddy, because you'rekind of screwed. Yeah, Like too
big an amount, it's too bigan amount for too long a time.
(01:00:14):
Yeah. And like again, assomeone who's worked in news media. If
there wasn't enough strong evidence and receipts, at least enough to get a conversation
started, this would not have comeup in the news cycle. Lawyers would
have quashed this immediately. It's comeout, And the reason it's allowed to
(01:00:37):
come out is because they've had peoplehave been able to dig up the public
lead public records of the tax postingsand the filings, and they've shown that
they're not even running the nonprofit organizationproperly. They don't even have all the
paperwork signed properly. It's just it'slike a half baked project. And that's
why they're allowed to do it,because no lawyer can defend it because they
(01:00:58):
haven't even been running or filing thecompany properly. Yeah, and again it
is a lot of people have beensaying, but he was one of the
good ones, and unfortunately we've seenin the last couple of years, just
because somebody's a nice guy doesn't meanthey can't do terrible things. And in
(01:01:19):
this case, different person altogether. But remember how much people love Tommy Tallarico.
Mm hmmm, Yeah, and Imean by what kind of a scumbag
he is? Yeah, I meanlike it sucks to see this happened,
because from what I hear, he'sa genuinely great person. I really have
heard that. But good, that'sno defense for being stupid. Good guys
do dumb. Good guys do ignorant. We have to wait to see how
(01:01:43):
Hardy doubles down on this, becauseit's family involved. Yeah, like,
I hope it is my sincere hopehe'll do the right thing. It is
my sincere hope he'll surrender all recordsvoluntarily and say, hey, I have
nothing to hide and here's the money. Donate it properly. Donate all the
money, and you and your familyshould never again be allowed to run a
(01:02:06):
charity fund. Yeah, like, this is not something you can come back
from. You can participate, butyou should never be allowed to be in
charge of one again. Yeah,Like, I'm sorry, but this is
how the way it is. AndI've seen some pretty dumb defenses of this
over the past week. Oh theoh, don't lay off. He's a
good guy, says people who don'tactually know the person other than maybe meeting
(01:02:30):
them once and saying hi. Yeah, like air or like the allegations are
bs like an organization as large asthe outlets that broke this would not have
done so without running it past legal. Some editor in chief would have had
to say are you sure? Andthe receipts speak. The websites posting it
(01:02:55):
are websites run by multinational corporations thatwill not let you. You may think
that they get to post whatever theywant when it's like, you know,
my ten best things to happen inthis video game? No, no,
no, those things are easy.Anything posted like this gets passed up through
legal. Yeah, like when whenit runs on a site like Kataku or
(01:03:16):
ignor, or if it spreads beyondthose fears, they have a legal team,
they have an editor in chief,or its like Bloomberg and it's hitting
financial sites now people are questioning it. And if once it hits them,
they're not dude bros posting These arefinancial journalists and analysts that are starting to
(01:03:37):
question stuff because it's not very oftenthat charity scams happen anymore because they get
caught. Yeah. Like I said, I want this to have the best
possible result given the evidence, butI want it to be the result that
helps the most people. Because asI lost my own grand father, the
(01:04:00):
person who raised me to dementia.I don't like this. I don't my
grandma right now, and believe me, like, there's a lot of research
that can be done and should bedone in it. And it angers me
when somebody has influence that raises moneyand they sit on it and then go,
oh, Spaghettio's we got caught.I didn't even know we had it.
(01:04:23):
Oh oh yeah, no, youhad it. You didn't know you
raised it. You mean that you'reraising all this money over multiple years,
doing multiple funds fundraisers, and youdidn't once ask hey, where'd we give
it to? So we can talkabout who we gave it to? Yeah,
Like, as a person who's donepr for people, that's the sort
(01:04:45):
of thing where that can get youpooked, that can get you booked on
a talk show, that can getyou local newspaper coverage, that can get
you national newspaper coverage. If someonehad said, hey, we know we
saw you raised six one hundred thousanddollars for dementia. You're just a YouTuber
who isn't mister beast? How wouldyou like an interview in USA Today or
(01:05:09):
the Chicago Tribune or whatever. Itis the kind of thing that you raise
Let's say you raised five hundred kand you make you make an announcement,
Hey, guys, look we becausethey didn't even say how much they raised
properly, if they went and said, hey, we raised five hundred k,
that's the kind of thing where someonelike Microsoft or Apple or or PlayStation
(01:05:29):
like Sony, most likely something likeXbox or even the game Wars and that
will then say, hey, youknow Xbox w Well, guess what,
that's an amazing thing you guys did. We'll match your five hundred k to
make it a million dollars and well, we'll give the big check donation at
the Game Awards or or or atyou know, at the Game Developers Conference
(01:05:51):
or or at PAX. Yeah, and they'll like, they'll do a ceremony.
And the reason people started to questionis people kept asking why hasn't there
been a ceremony to show that theygave the money over Yeah, Like,
this is something that has amazing PRoptics written all over it, because in
(01:06:12):
PR we have this thing not asthe bank of goodwill, and the bank
of goodwill is something you can buildup over time, either by doing good
things, having a good public image, not being a controversial figure, in
your particular community, and it's somethingthat's built up over time. It's something
a lot of the bigger YouTube personalities, if they're smart, they've been able
to get it over a number ofyears and whatnot. And it's fantastic when
(01:06:36):
you can use it properly. Andin my opinion, the Completionists had probably
one of the best track records becausepeople liked him. He didn't have much
controversy at all following him, andhe was always known as that nice guy
you could run into it packs Ethree, GDC whatever. He's the only
one that made it out of theG four relaunch unscathed and in fact,
(01:06:56):
probably in a better position than hewas beforehand. Yeah, and this is
catastrophic. So my final word onthis is, I hope you do the
right thing. I hope the recordsgo what it needs to, and I
hope this money goes to the peoplewho need it the most, because people
(01:07:17):
deserve to have their faith rewarded inwhat they did, what they believed they
were donating to. And I hopethis money helps the people who it affects
the most. And I guess withthat we're going to take a small break
here on this weekend geek Is it'sbeen a very very serious topic. You
could donate to Alex's Human Fund.I swear, I swear all the money
(01:07:40):
goes to humans and not just intorobots robots and robots that can feed me
grapes in bed. I swear,I swear, and I promise I'll show
you where I donated to. Sodonate to the Human Fund that the sorry
just yeah, god, our humorstop, so stop assholes, people exactly
(01:08:01):
responsible, which kind of transitions intowhat we're going to talk about next,
because we're going to talk about Thanksgiving, Black Friday, cyber Mondays. And
you might be wondering, well, what does that mean. Well, if
you're American, this is your Thanksgivingand Thanksgiving is one of those things.
Are we not stopping the show?Oh no, no, no, we're
(01:08:23):
going to. I'm just going topreface this so okay, because I'm just
like, this is a different segment. So before we transition into our next
review, where Alex is going totake a look at the black light chair
that he got for review, Ijust want you guys to think about what
you're thankful for, and when wecome back, we'll talk about some of
the things we're thankful for as Idon't think we did a show on Canadian
(01:08:45):
Thanksgiving back in October, so whenwe come back, we'll talk about that.
Some of the cool deals that youcan get from some of our friends
and partners that we've been had achance to take a look at this holiday
season so far and kind of apreview of our up coming holiday gift guy.
But also these are some deals youcan definitely get right now if you
act fast. So we'll be backguys right after this. Right here,
(01:09:06):
on this done now, Alex hereand I want to talk about something a
little different. It's that time ofyear where we start to plan our holiday
gift guides and we usually get tosee some more unique and interesting products to
review leading into that you know, for gift guide consideration. And one of
these is from a new company calledblack Light. They are a Canadian company
(01:09:30):
that is producing gaming chairs and furniturelike gaming desk accessories. And I had
a chance to check out the blackLight Athena chair prior to its release.
You can now purchase it on theirwebsite. I'll put links in the description
for you. And I'm not somebodywho's actually owned a gaming chair like a
specifically you know, designed gaming computerchair. Ever, I had always sort
(01:09:54):
of been just the standard office chairguy. I had different sizes of those
big, big and tall office chairs. I had one at one point a
manager style chair, and then justyour standard stuff. And I've seen a
lot of people that have gone andhad from big name brands, different you
know, racing chair design computer chairs, and I thought, okay, well,
(01:10:15):
you know what, they've given anopportunity to check it out before it's
released. Let's let's let's see it. So it arrived in a big box,
I was able to take it apart, you know, pretty easily and
figure out exactly you know, whichpart was for what what you know,
attachment as well as I came withinstructions. I should note that I had
a prototype chair ahead of release,so the instructions that you'll receive in the
(01:10:38):
retail box will be slightly different, and that mine was more of a printed
sheet that was pretty simple. AndI have had a chance to look at
the final retail assembly sheet and it'smuch more detailed with very clear instructions with
you know, bright pictures and everything. But either instruction set was actually pretty
easy to follow, just a littlemore user for with the final retail version
(01:11:00):
that you'd be getting if you pickit up. It's available in a few
different colors. There's black, thereis a white, and then there is
a pink color which is kind ofneat too. Mine was a black and
it has some pretty neat features.Comes with a like lumbar pillow, also
a neck pillow, all pretty strongmemory foam. The wheelbase is pretty starty
(01:11:25):
and strong. You know, I'ma bigger guy, So that's one of
my pick concerns is is this achair that you know is rated for a
decent amount of weight, and whileit's not like an official big and tall
chair per se, in comparison toa lot of other office or computer even
gaming chairs, where you know theyhave a recommended weight usually of one hundred
kilograms as the max, this hasa recommended of less than one fifty,
(01:11:47):
which means it's rated for slightly higherthan a lot of its contemporaries, which
is also a big bonus because evenif you're not a big person and you're
sitting on it, let's say youknow you're only one hundred kilograms or ninety
kilograms or eighty kilo and wait thatmeans this thing's going to last you a
heck of a long time because you'renever going to go over the recommended weight
on it. What is one ofthe bigger features of this is just how
(01:12:12):
maneuverable and how customizable and adjustable thearm rests are. You can both raise
and lower them, just like youwould on a lot of standard chairs.
It also has a button you canpress that will shift the armrest either innerwards
towards your sides or farther out ifyou have a wider arm gate. There's
also the ability for them to tiltinward or outward like shifting, so depending
(01:12:36):
on how you want to rest yourarms on it, which is actually pretty
cool. There is a little leveron the side for a full tilt back.
We tried that here with my dadand my brother that came over and
checked it out, and they leadit all the way back and they went,
whoa, this leads back far,so you can adjust it that way.
Just make sure that you're balanced yourself, because it's not going to tip
(01:12:57):
over. But you'll want to makesure that if you're tilting it back like
that that you turn on the littlebrakes that are one of the selling features
of this that has really quiet, sort of rubberized outside to the roller wheels,
but they also have like a lockingmechanism so that they can stay in
place. That's something you're going towant to make sure you have on if
you're tilting backwards. Then of coursethere is a lift, you know,
(01:13:19):
to go up and down with alittle gas chamber lift, and you can
adjust it to pretty much any heightyou'd want. My brother is six foot
five with longer legs than me,and when he had it at the highest
setting, he found that it wasjust the right height for him. So
you can be a taller guy orgal and have no problem at all,
which is a big feature because alot of times you'll find chairs are made
(01:13:41):
for generally shorter people or people thathave shorter legs. But to give you
an idea, like I'm six footfour and my end seam on my leg
is only thirty so I'm wear youknow, a thirty inch or length leg,
whereas my brother is a thirty four. He's only one inch taller than
me. So we sit down nextto each other. My head sits above
(01:14:03):
his because I'm all torso height andhe's all leg height. So it's got
some pretty good range on the adjustabilitythere, and at its lowest setting,
my brother's wife, who is Ithink she's like five to three, she
was able to sit on it andonce we lowered it down it was at
the right height for her. Soit is very good and how much you
(01:14:24):
can adjust it quite comfortable, verystrong memory foam, decent enough width for
the seat itself, good center ofbalance, and it's very quiet when you're
rolling around. I could see itbeing something you can sit on very comfortably
for extended periods of time. Again, if you're somebody who is like on
the much larger side of the scale, it isn't something that is rated for
(01:14:45):
like overly big and tall. Ifyou're a plus sized person, you might
want to consider that. But whenyou go onto their website you can actually
see the product dimensions and the heightand width of everything of the chair,
so you can get an idea ofif it's going to be a chair that
fits. But I think it's goingto fit the vast majority of our listeners.
If you're looking for one, it'son the website here. It has
(01:15:09):
an MSRPs six ninety nine ninety nine, which you know you might think,
oh, that sounds like a lotwhen you consider a lot of other gamer
chairs out there are you know, listed at that price in American you're looking
at saving a couple hundred bucks purchasingit, you know, in Canada from
here also in the States. TheirAmerican site is selling it at a cheaper
rate than what you'd see a lotof the other contemporaries. So I can
(01:15:30):
say that if you're on the fence, it's not a poor bill quality uh
you know, piece of furniture. It's actually quite high quality at at or
exceeding when I think a lot ofthe contemporaries out there are offering. And
it's always nice to see, youknow, a new startup enter into this
field and you know, take onthe big the big boys out there with
(01:15:53):
a pretty good product that I thinkis going to satisfy most gamers. And
even if you're not a gamer andyou're just want something that's a nice,
comfortable chair that's fairly adjustable, itisn't going to completely break the bank as
some of the really high end,you know, crazy computer chairs can do.
This is something you might want tolook at. So I'll put it
in the in like our description forthis episode as well as our Gift Guide
(01:16:16):
will probably put a feature up forit, and I'm looking forward to seeing
more from black Light. Hopefully wecan check out some of our other products
soon. I thank the day afterThanksgiving is, in my opinion, the
biggest shopping day of the year, and I will not spend another year giving
Dallas Maverick scrap because the Cowboys stuffwas all sold out. Hey, guys,
welcome back to this We can keepout no Normally you would hear the
(01:16:36):
weird news here where we talk aboutthe unusual things that have happened upon the
Big Blue Marble this week, butwe're not doing that this week because we're
going to take a couple couple ofmoments and to talk about the Black Friday
and Cyber Monday sales that have beenhappening on the internet this week. But
we're going to take just a coupleof minutes here and talk about Thanksgiving as
we Like I said, I'm prettysure we didn't do this during the Canadian
(01:16:57):
thank Thanksgiving Here and a lot ofour listeners are based in North America and
a good chunker in the United States, so just want to take a moment
to just say thanks and kind ofgive thanks for me. I'd say the
thing I'm most thankful for is ultimatelystill being able to do this show for
(01:17:18):
sixteen years going on seventeen, withstill the same drive and passion that I
had the moment we first started backin two thousand and seven, all those
many many years ago, and allthose many co hosts to go. I've
made a lot of friends on thispodcast. I've lost a lot of friends
on this podcast, but I've reallylearned a lot about relationships. I've learned
(01:17:43):
a lot about friendship. I've learneda lot that maybe my family isn't the
one I was born into, it'sthe one that I've chosen for myself.
And by having friends like Alex who'svery much become a brother, by having
other people on the show like Aaronwho's become a mentor friends like JT,
(01:18:03):
who is a very interesting fellow, but I've sent a very common goal in
him. Ken, this person I'velearned to depend on when it comes to
if I need a day for notto record a show, I can always
be very real with him to tellhim what's going on with me, and
he always he gets me. AndI'm mostly thankful for the last year becoming
(01:18:26):
friends with people like Enrique and Davidfrom Welcome the Primetime, who are just
beginning to start a new podcast calleddo You Even Movie? And they talk
about Thanksgiving in their first episode ofPlanes, Trains and Automobiles, And that's
kind of what it inspired this today, just thinking about I'm most thankful for
the relationships that I have, Likelike I was just saying there, I'm
(01:18:48):
also thankful for people in my personallife like my friend Jordan, who built
me this wonderful desk for Christmas, who's allowed me to record Twig in a
completely new and wonderful manner. I'mthankful for my wife Blair, who stayed
with me for after all these yearsand all the dumb crap that I've done.
I am thankful for the community thatI've built here in Gwelph, with
(01:19:11):
so many of the community or organizationsI've started to work with, helping out
the disabled community, the indigenous community, and not for clouts. One thing
I'm very thankful for is the bestgift that I can give is knowing that
doing the right thing doesn't have tobe recognized. And I've been asked a
(01:19:35):
number of times to consider running forpublic office, and I've always said to
them, no, I don't wantto, not because I don't want recognition,
because I really really don't want that. But I'd rather be part of
this, of the solution that helpsmake things better. So I'm thankful for
the gifts and lessons that I've learnedthrough all my friends and family. Over
(01:19:58):
the last couple of years, I'vetried to live by the seven grandfather teachings
that comes from my indigenous background, and it has been a tremendously good year
for having good people in my corner. Alex has carried the show when I
was really sick, and he's donegreat things in the background, that stuff
that I literally can't do because I'mnot smart enough. And I'm thankful for
(01:20:24):
everybody who's ever taken a show onbecause I'm having a bad day. So
that is what I'm thankful for.Thankful for all of you, and for
all of you that interact with uson the platform formally known as Twitter x
whatever. I'm thankful for you.Thankful for everybody who interacts on Facebook,
people who interact on Instagram and TikTok. I still get recognized here in the
(01:20:45):
city, and yeah, it's justit's been great. So I'm thankful for
all of you and just thank youfor making my life a little bit brighter
as we head into twenty twenty four, I'm sure when we close out our
holiday gift guide, I'll have somesimilar thoughts, but I'll try and put
a little bit more oomph and panashinto it when I eloquently sling some words
(01:21:09):
at you in just a couple ofweeks. So, Alex, what about
you, man? What are youmost thankful for this year? Well?
Crap, uh, ditto you Justyou touched on everything that's not fair,
pretty much everything you said. Tobe honest, I'm also thankful for cheese,
(01:21:29):
like cheese existing that shirt bitey stuff, especially from Costco. I'm not
trying to be to be to belike Buddy or were, just I am
thankful for cheese. I like cheese. I'm thankful that I'm able to have
a roof over my head, andin this the way the economy and the
renting market has gone. I'm I'mhappy that my family knock on wood as
(01:21:53):
the health that they have. I'mhappy that my friends are here for me,
and I'm happy to always trying tobe experiencing new things things. That's
I'm happy that we have an outletfor our creativity so that we don't go
start raving mad in our houses. And that's you know what Twig has brought
me the last seven years and sevenyears holy crap, I know, right,
(01:22:14):
And like, I'm always so thankfulthe fact that you and Aaron and
now on Enrique and Dave expose meto so much new media I just have
never seen before, like loose Cannon. Is always that chance for me to
see new movies. When Aaron bringsme new random old sci fi movies or
Enrique brings me horror movies, it'salways so interesting to say, I never
(01:22:38):
saw this in my youth. I'venever experienced it before, so it's always
the wealth of knowledge is something I'mdefinitely thankful for, and it's that depth.
The hard part has been trying tofind time to record all these extra
things with each other, because wewant to do a lot, but there's
only so many hours in a week, right, So I'm just thankful that
we can record and do what wecan when we can. Yeah, Like,
(01:23:01):
yeah, I mean it's been good, and like I said, we've
got a lot of cool stuff comingup. We've been recording a few things
that are really looking forward to releasingover the holiday break, so it's gonna
be good. But that being said, speaking to things that are good,
it's time to talk about the meatand potatoes of this segment, and that
is the Black Friday. I've gotsome flyers up, and these are going
(01:23:25):
to be the flyers at least aregoing to be Canadian flyers, because obviously
we're based in Canada. They're gonnabe similar deals in the States. And
I know that you've got some thingsto talk about that are going to be
more Canada slash US International. Wouldyou like me to sort of just briefly
go over some of the things I'veseen in these flies. Yah, sure
on, Because you know today's dayand age, we don't really get the
big flyers delivered to the home anymore, right, I don't know what guys
(01:23:49):
are living, but we don't anymore. Maybe once or twice a year we
get proper flyers. So it's alldigital. So I've gone and sort of
skimmed through Walmart Art, which isgonna have similar deals to the States in
Canada. Sometimes they have slightly differentskew numbers. Because there might be a
the Canadian version might be something like, you know, one letter off and
(01:24:09):
it does the same thing. Butthey've got if you're looking for a television
under two hundred bucks, they gota forty three inch of their own brand
on ONN that's a Walmart brand. It's not going to be great, you
know, it's not going to beblowing your socks off anywhere, but it
does have it's Roku built into it. It's ten DP. So if you
(01:24:31):
just need something that is bigger thanwhat you've previously had, it might be
worth looking at. But if you'regoing to look for anything bigger or anything,
you know four kN that you dohave to up your price point to
like the three hundred dollars price range. But I thought i'd mentioned that that
you can get a TV between athirty two and forty three inch sub two
hundred dollars, which for our Americanfriends would be something like paying one hundred
(01:24:56):
and twenty bucks. So that's prettygood. Now. There is an advertised
bundle for the PlayStation five, andit's the new PlayStation Slam. I guess
with being built the one with thebuilt in Remova will be built in disk
drive one you can remove, andit comes with Spider Man two. They're
(01:25:19):
saying it's six forty nine. Sowhat they're saying is they bundle in a
digital copy, like a ninety dollarscopy of Spider Man two six forty nine.
You're likely would be the game thatyou'd probably want to buy this year
anyway, if you're getting a PlayStationbundle, So that I think is pretty
(01:25:41):
good. Also something to keep inmind is that the Slim actually has more
storage space. It has a fullterabyte instead of the eight hundred and twenty
five gigs that ours came with.So in your case, this would be
the kind of thing where it's likemaybe you would if you've somebody who's had
just a digital edition previe, youmight want to sell yours, you know,
(01:26:01):
get a few hundred bucks and thenupgrade to the one with the removable
drives. For somebody who maybe wantsto actually get physical discs to play or
watch movies on physical discs and youdon't have other means like on an Xbox
Series X or standalone player, thisis a pretty good way to get a
solid Blu ray player, an ultraHD player. That the bonus to it
(01:26:26):
is if the disk drive in mylaunch PS five breaks, I'm kind of
screwed. If the disc player breaksin the new Slim, you just pop
it off and either have it aservice or buy a new one and pop
it on. So that's something toconsider. Uh, six point fifty Canadian.
If you are an American listener, you're thinking that's kind of crazy.
Remember that everywhere except the States hadtheir prices increased during the pandemic, So
(01:26:49):
there's that. If you want aSeries X console, it's six hundred bucks.
So I have seen them go aslow as five hundred and twenty five.
If you look at place is likeStoppers, drug Mart and Staples.
Yeah, yeah, look around, but don't don't go rushing because they're saying
fifty bucks off because they raise theirprices here too. So you're looking at
(01:27:11):
six hundred for an Xbox Series exitWalmart, or six point fifty for the
PS five, which is the Slimversion. It's the revision, so it's
already a better performing console and hasSpider Man come with it. You don't
get anything with the Xbox, butit is still a nice brick. It's
a it's a heavy duty big boy, but it does play pretty much any
(01:27:31):
media format out there. So ifyou're looking for something that will play everything
you want to play as a mediacenter, the Xbox is probably your better
bet. But if you're looking forSpider Man already, maybe looking up greater
or get your first PS five, that's probably worth it as well. Other,
you know, bigger deals like there'sgonna be stuff on cheap, you
know, junkie tablets and stuff. If it looks too good to be true,
(01:27:54):
I'll tell you right now, don'tgrab it like that onn On brand
from Walmart sixty eight dollars seven inchten tablet. You're better off getting an
Amazon Kindle Fire, to be honest, because you know it's going to be
old tech. So you know,if it looks too good to be true,
don't bother because it's going to bejumped that the kids throw it anyway.
But back to their actual gaming stuff, you can pick up a Nintendo
(01:28:16):
Switch Light Bundle which has Animal Crossingbuilt in or or download code for it
two fifty nine. Remember that's theone that only plays portable. If you're
somebody who's been looking to get intothe the VR space, the Medequest two
all in one heads that now thethree is out, but if you want
to get the two, which iswhat I have, which previously went up
(01:28:40):
in price by a couple hundred bucks, has now been brought down to three
forty nine. I paid three ninetynine four two years ago, so it
is on sale. It is alsoa larger storage capacity that my mind was
thirty two gigs. These are goingto be I think the sixty four gig
or one twenty eight model, soyou get a little more. There also
new releases for controller, the PDPafterglow Wave wire controller, one of which
(01:29:02):
I actually covered on the show lastweek, is on sale now at Walmart.
They want forty bucks Canadian. Itis MSRP at fifty bucks. It's
a pretty good controller, so itmight be something you want to check out
if you're looking for a third party. And then of course, you know
they always have like the bundles ofdifferent packages of games where it's like here,
(01:29:23):
pick from these select games at aselect price point. Nintendo games,
you know, almost never go downin price, but you could pick up
the same sort of standard with Zelda, Kirby, Luigi's Mansion three fifty five
bucks regularly I think eighty because theynever come down in price. At the
(01:29:44):
thirty dollars price point, you canget Spider Man Miles Morales, and that's
probably the only good one. Arrestare sports titles at the thirty dollars price
point for PS five. At theforty dollars price point, there's a couple
titles like Ghost Tsushima the PS fiveversion. I know you love that game.
Oh it's so worth it. Yeah, Like it's regularly eighty nine because
(01:30:05):
remember it's the version that came outa year later. That's specifically for PS
five, So you can get thatfor forty bucks if you're already buying a
console. That's one of the goodones to get that is it was a
cross generation transitional title, but alreadywas good enough on PS four. And
then Horizon is that price point aswell, the complete collection. At the
(01:30:26):
fifty dollars price point, you canget Assassin's Creed Mirage regularly eighty nine,
which pretty dark. I mean,we had a good time playing that.
Oh yeah, gotta War Ragnarok PSfive versions fifty bucks. That's a good
deal too, because that is oneof the one of the best games in
(01:30:46):
the last several years, for sure. And then at the forty five dollars
price point. It's a lot ofsports titles this year. You'll notice that.
And let's be honest, the sportstitles aren't worth it. If you
didn't buy it at launch, it'sprobably not worth it now, So keep
that in mind. And plus alot of them you can access via I
think the EA Pass if you havethe add on for PlayStation or Xbox Game
(01:31:10):
Pass exactly, there's always an optionfor that as well, and the same
goes for some of the Ubisoft titles. You can actually have a subscription to
get those games too, so itmight be worth subscribing for a month for
twenty bucks or ten bucks whatever theadd on prices for it, and then
just playing those games during the holidaysif you're not somebody's keen on collecting physical
editions. There was I was aboutto say to kind of talk about some
(01:31:31):
of those things that like you weregoing to mention I know for sale right
now, and some of the flyersyou can get. And also on PlayStation
plus you can get Mortal Kombat oneis I think twenty or thirty thirty dollars
off right now. You can getResident Evil four, which is one of
the best titles to come out thisyear. I think it's a Game of
the Year contender at the Game Awards. That's definitely worth kind of looking at.
(01:31:57):
I think I just mentioned Street Fighters. I think twenty or thirty thirty
dollars off. A lot of peopleforget that Star Wars Jedi Survivor came out
this year, and that's at asignificant discount too, and that is absolutely
worth your time. Now that they'veadded new game plus, you can unlock
(01:32:17):
different lightsaber colors and all sorts ofcrazy crap once you beat the game.
It's a fantastic story too. Likethere's a lot of really good stuff out
there if you want to play.Black Friday deals are already popping up for
game Stop Canada formerly known as EbieGames, which I find it funny that
they transitioned the name completely the gameStop right when everything was tanking for them.
(01:32:40):
But they have a separate bundle, their PS five bundle and comes with
Modern Warfare three. Go to Walmartand get the Spider Man Bundle. Don't
get the Modern Warfare three bundle. It's not worth the price point. Let's
be honest. You get a bettervalue if you get the Spider Man Bundle,
right, Yeah, yeah, Imean, Spider Man provides you a
(01:33:02):
better single player experience and all lastlike hours, Spider Man provides you a
ninety dollars game. Yeah, whereasModern Warfare unless you're really into the multiplayer
and in the zombies, not somuch. But as of this recording,
me and Alex will have our fullreview of Call of Duty Modern Warfare three
coming out probably on Wednesday at somepoint, maybe Thursday, but either way
(01:33:24):
you're gonna hear that. I'm sayingthat just as somebody who is like,
if you're looking for what is thevalue number? Is only best value for
the dollar? It's going to beSpider Man. Yeah, it just is.
Yeah, head and shoulders. That'sthat would be like it's hard to
beat when it's a first party title, you know what I mean, because
(01:33:44):
you know first party games, theydon't drop in price. Call of Duty
games do eventually drop in price. So other deals that they have is they
all seem to have Gotta War Wagnarockon sale. One that you might be
interested in if you're getting a PSfive is the Last of Us Part one,
the one that I review, andI believe did you get a review
copy of that as well? Idid yeah, and it was utterly fantastic.
(01:34:06):
Now. The reason that is it'sdown to fifty bucks Canadian down from
ninety right when it was announced thatI guess sort of leaked and then they
had to confirm it that the Lastof Us Part two is getting a deluxe
remastered version for the PlayStation five aswell. So looking for that, I
think it was January twenty fourth iswhat they announced for it. Oh so
(01:34:29):
yeah, So if that's the case, and I think that, I'm pretty
sure that's the case, you mightwant to pick this one up now because
you're going to you know, beable to go through that graphical fidelity upgrade,
you know, in a one twopunch. This way, you'll beat
this game just in time for thenew version to come out of the second
game. Another great deal here isFinal Fantasy sixteen. They have the deluxe
(01:34:49):
version listed at eighty bucks. Don'tget the Deluxe version. It's just a
steel book case, which is notthe best quality steel book case, and
a couple digital downloads that are ultimatelyuseless after about ten minutes into the game.
So it's only worth getting the standardedition because the standard edition is forty
nine dollars and it's well worth thatfor a single player, high quality you
(01:35:13):
know, very like a visual feastat that price point. Skip all of
the sports titles. Like I said, there's other titles on sale that are
like, eh, maybe if youwant physical like you said, Mortal Kombat
won. They have it for twentybucks off, which is pretty good for
a fighting game that can fighting gamethat only came out a little bit ago.
Usually you have to wait a yearuntil you start to see any discounts
(01:35:34):
on fighting games, if not longer. Sometimes if they're popular, so that's
a good deal. And then ofcourse there's gonna be other deals on some
of the previous games that came out, or used games. They're always trying
to sell those. Obviously, ifyou're somebody who doesn't mind getting used copies
of games or what they call them, recertified or renewed or whatever, they're
(01:35:56):
worth it. But there isn't awhole heck of a lot of crazy good
deals this year, and I thinkthat's just sort of a sign of the
times when it comes to and youknow, with inflation being what it's been
in the market and everything. Ialways try to check out some of the
other companies like London Drug because rememberLondon Drug back when the I think it
was the PS five came out andwhen the Switch came out and all this,
(01:36:19):
they were one of the few placeswhere you could find consoles because nobody
thought about London Drug. But nothingreally spectacular at London Drug this year.
Neither with the real Canadian superstore Staples. If you're looking for computer hardware,
you're probably going to find a betterdeal elsewhere. Nothing big on their front
(01:36:40):
page, so I wouldn't waste mytime with them this year. The one
final one I'll say is Toys rUs for our American listeners. Yes,
Toys r Us exists here still. It's actually still pretty big. It's the
biggest toy retailer and Canda still.I guess that the States haven't. They
had some pop ups happen at Targetor something. No, I think they're
inside of Macy's or something like that. Is that what it was or something
(01:37:03):
like that or something, where whereashere Toys r Us is still full sized
like giant retail. Yeah, theyyou know, keep an eye on them
for those of you at the borderbecause of their large size, even in
comparison to the States. Even thoughwe're a smaller market, they're still like
they're probably the biggest toy retailer outsideof like Walmart when you consider it because
(01:37:26):
of the fact that there isn't reallyanybody in the state's doing it. If
you live near the border, youmight want to make a trip up here
just to see what they've got instore, because you're gonna have a better
options when it comes to money conversion. You know, if especially if you
come up here, you know, use your credit card or something. I
don't know. I don't think theyuse Interactis. They have a different name
for it for their debit cards. But you know, even with conversions or
(01:37:48):
fees that you might have, you'reprobably gonna save a bunch because they're gonna
have buying power to have deals oneverything from you know, kids toys to
games to model hits and things thatyou might be able to get cheaper than
you can get on Amazon or gettingit shipped down to the States. So
now actually border friends, you know, keep an eye out now. I
(01:38:10):
was actually in Toys Arrest the otherday because of course I was. I
know, they do have a dealfirst Transformers where you can get anything that
is the studio series, which isthe toys that I typically review here on
the show. Stuff that's very collectorfocused. I think I think you can
(01:38:30):
get the I think it's by oneget one off transformers, Gin Legacy figures
that says assortments everything from the generationLegacy is fifty percent off. That is
completely worth it, depending on Yeah, twenty bucks Canadian meaning if you're an
American wanting to come up you wantto get your shopping done up here and
(01:38:51):
probably avoid some of the crazy crowdsdown in the States. Uh, you'd
be looking at fifteen bucks a figure. Yeah, and you will find a
lot of older stuff, just becauseCanada is a little bit behind when it
comes to getting some of the newerstuff. But if you do live in
a border city, you are morelikely to find some of the newer figures.
But obviously if you're looking for transformers, your best bet are still your
(01:39:14):
targets, your Walmarts, your Walgreens. But coming up here, if you
did miss a figure in insay anolder wave, like if you wanted to
get something that might work for thelegacy collection, So if you wanted to
get a piece of motor or notMotor Master Menosaur. So if you want
if you maybe want to find adead end or a wild rider or anything
(01:39:40):
like that, you might be ableto find that. I know, Tarantelis
is showing up cheap, Like justlook around. You might be very surprised
what you might find. Yeah.Like basically if you're like Ontario bound,
because there's more stores of toys rus I think on Ontario than anywhere else.
So our Detroit, our Buffalo friends, they're willing to come up and
(01:40:02):
drive over. Uh. It's notjust that there's Transformers, Rescue Bots,
Academy, all those classic heroes, toy line that's fifty percent off. Uh,
stuff is really worth it. Yeah, if you got really little ones
in your family, uh you knowthe little uh little people. Uh,
(01:40:23):
it's like you know you remember thoselike little I think it's just called little
people, like those playsets, thoseare schools type stuff, right. Yeah,
everything from Playmobile is fifty percent off. You if I had to give
one recommendation from anything playmobile, ifyou can find it, and I don't
know if it's on sale, andI really hope it is. The Ghostbuster
(01:40:45):
stuff is fantastic, like literally nextlevel. I've got both versions of the
ECDO one and I am so not. Sorry, my sister bought me the
DeLorean. It's astounding. There's aneight Team one, there's a James Bond
one. Anything licensed that Playmobile doesis next level. Like if you're an
(01:41:10):
abounding level, if you're an AWfan, all AW figures and toys and
playsets and belts all, yeah, like that's that's a fantastic game. All
seven inch G I Joe figures fromany series are now fifteen bucks. Yes,
seriously, do not sleep on GI Joe Declassified. If I had
(01:41:32):
to give some recommendations, if youcan find the bat Trooper, which is
the battle Android Trooper ship wrecks,a fantastic figure, grunt. If you
want some of the older figures likeRoadblock Lady J I think crock Master is
one that's worth kind of checking out. I think Barbecue and blow Torture available
(01:41:54):
if I'm not mistaken. If youcan find the Snake Eyes it has Timberwolf.
All Pokemon plush toys are twenty off. Yeah. Most board games,
uh they say for grown ups basicallyanybody fourteen plus. All these board games
are thirty percent off. Family boardgames uh like classic ones, uh like
(01:42:14):
Sorry and Trouble and all that they'reforty percent off. Uh. They have
a bye two get one or bytwo get a third free on all playing
card decks, which some of themare licensed, some of them are fancy
looking beyond that. Uh, andthese are the pre ones. They said
that they're gonna have stuff like inthe in this you know, pre slash
(01:42:35):
Black Friday week stuff. They saidthat that there are going to have stuff
that is only available in the stories. You'll have to show up to see
what the real specials are for uh, for Black Friday the day itself.
So they're trying to entice people outtoo. So hey, here's some good
deals. But by the way,we'll have some door crashers as well.
So yeah, you're not sure necessarilyexactly what they're gonna be. Lego sets
(01:42:56):
are on sale. You remember youremember that playt or a place to play
mat where it's like the little kidstown. It's like a rug that you
get. Oh yeah yeah, carson everybody had it except me, but
yeah, yes we had what wegot from a garage tale. Well the
guy that I think drew that passedaway this year last year a few weeks
ago. That classic playmat is fiftypercent off twelve bucks in they're including a
(01:43:20):
couple of toy cars to play onit. So that's a that's a pretty
cool set. Like normally what you'dbe looking at twenty five bucks for the
play mat, and then you'd belooking at like ten bucks of the cars,
So like thirty five, you gettwelve to fifty for thirty five dollars
worth of toys, and that playmatcan be used for basically anything. It
(01:43:41):
became my my base of operations forevery action figure for a long time when
I was a little kid, rightso, and then beyond that, of
course, they've got things like trollsthat are on sale because you know,
the new movies out in theaters nowI think as of this recording, and
they've got some of the newer linesof that stuff on sale for ten percent
off lots of stuff. So again, for our American friends who are collector
(01:44:03):
fans or have kids or want tobuy toys, don't forget and don't sleep
on it that Toys r US isstill a big thing up here and they
still have the buying power to actuallyprovide these kind of deals. So some
of the things that I want tomention and Alex is going to post the
website because this is going to bethe review you're going to hear next from
(01:44:25):
me. But the guys that makethose Ninja Food appliances, they've got a
sale going on right now. Andthe item that I'm reviewing this week is
the Ninja Creamy, which is thisice cream maker that has been making huge
waves in the bariatric health community rightnow. You should definitely be checking that
out. One of the things thatwill be featured in a holiday gift guide
(01:44:46):
maybe in a review show later onthis week will be the Ninja Foody Power
mixer system. Let's just say ithas leveled up my wife's holiday baking game
to the next level. So anyweight I've lost has now been negligible just
because this thing is made cooking somuch, so much easier. Yeah,
Like, seriously go there and checkthat out. Like these are if you
(01:45:11):
live in a college dorm. Theseare great to have if you want to
again just change how you're kind ofeating habits are These are great things to
have like in your home in general. I'm honestly surprised how useful they have
been and how much they can reallychange your eating habits and lead toward a
healthier kind of lifestyle. To goback to Walmart for a moment. If
you are into Pokemon cards like Iam, I know, Walmart has a
(01:45:35):
pretty significant collection of cards on forat least twenty five percent off for like
most tins and even elite trainer boxes, so if you're into the new Paradox
rift, but if you have towant older stuff like Paldea Evolved Obsidian Flame.
I actually got a Pokemon Go Elitetrainer box with features mewtwo on it
(01:45:57):
for like sixty bucks Canadian and thatnormally retails for a hell of a lot
more. You can also find Pokemonone f one which has the booster bundles,
has the poster collections, the deckthings where it's like where it gives
you the selection of Alcazam and zapZappados and stuff like that. And the
binder which features a Squirtle Pika orSquirtle Charmander and bulbousort. You can get
(01:46:25):
that at discount. But you alsoget some older box sets for the Galarian
birds so stuff like that, socheck them out. But there's a big
yellow box set which I think youget six boosters for like twenty five thirty
dollars. That's a really good dealand there are some really good pulls in
that set. And then this Iwant to highlight because I've reviewed a bunch
(01:46:47):
of their games this year. Sofor the entire month of November, Renegade
Game Studios, the same company thatproduces Transformers, Power Rangers, Gi Joe,
Little Pony, Vampire, the Masquerade, they are giving a free PDF
away with each book that you buythere. So if you don't want to
(01:47:11):
bring out your physical books to yourlocal game convention or your local gaming table,
it's a lot easier to pass arounda tablet than it is to pass
around a physical book, especially ifsomeone decides to spill soda on it,
not naming names, And in thatcase, that might be one of the
use cases for one of those likefifty sixty dollars tablets you see on sale
for Black Friday or Cyber Monday, either Beat Yeah and Amazon Fire tablet or
(01:47:35):
the Walmart one. Don't expect todo gaming on them, but it doesn't
mean they can't be perfect for passingaround PDFs. Yeah, exact yeah,
like And honestly, a lot ofthe Renegade Game Studio stuff this year has
hit tremendously well. Like some ofthe books that I really want to kind
of highlight from them this year isthey did something called the Essence twenty role
(01:47:58):
playing systems Field Guy to Action andAdventure. That's where you can cross over
Power Rangers, Gi Joe and Transformers. Although in theory you could have Starscream
fight Rainbow Dash from My Little Pony, I think the rules are fairly compatible.
I am. I'm going to betaking a look at that later on.
Another book that is absolutely essential youcan grab is the Cobra Codex,
(01:48:24):
which gives you stats for a lotof the main Joe's but if you want
to have a Cobra focused campaign,I know, I reviewed that game a
couple of weeks ago. Here onthe show, they've got the Decepticon Directive,
which is the Decepticon book. Youcan also get the Sergeant Slaughter Pack
from Gi Joe. Like, there'sso much good stuff coming out of Renegade
(01:48:47):
Game Studios when it comes to anybodywho handles licensed ip they're kind of becoming
my favorite game company outside of thecompany that I work with for like Star
Trek, because you field the lovebehind the material and they're supporting it and
having access to a PDF is sofantastic and so easily available for so many
(01:49:10):
people. So while you're waiting foryour book the ship, you can have
the PDF like right then and there, So that's really accessible. So really
again, guys, go to RenegadeGame Studios dot com Anything Essence twenty you
get a free PDF whenever you buysomething that is fantastic value. Like I
said, I really support these guys, and a lot of their stuff is
(01:49:31):
going to be in a special holidayGift Guide selection this year where I dedicate
to role playing games. I didn'tsee a lot of whole other sales or
like Dungeons and Dragons, but donot be surprised if Amazon puts on a
sale because they typically do around likeforty percent off or buy two get one
free. I don't know if they'regoing to do that this year, but
(01:49:51):
do not be surprised if that doespop up. Yeah, like it's Black
Friday week for us leading up toit, but remember that there are going
to be stuff that sales go onright before or you'll see it posted the
day of. So these are justsomething like if you want to jump on
things early or you have an idea, maybe think about it now, and
(01:50:11):
then you know there's gonna be stuffon this coming Friday, and then all
the way through until Monday when allof the digital deals start going live for
Cyber Monday. Yeah. So,like I said, there's some really really
really cool stuff out there that likeyou can check out. I really hope
you guys end up doing this.So again, guys, this is what
(01:50:32):
you can check out as you dosome of your holiday shopping, as you
do Thanksgiving madness. So hopefully youwon't end up in a plane's trains and
automobiles sit situation. God for billeach other for a two dollars toaster.
It's not worth it, absolutely,So guys, we are to take a
small break here on this weekend Geek, and we're gonna go into the review
(01:50:55):
that I talked about just a momentago where I talk about the Ninja Creamy.
This thing's gonna change how I loseweight in twenty twenty four. Kind
of excited, so I'm gonna enjoymy non Wendy's Frosty, but it's just
as good. So we'll be backguys right after this, only on this
week can geek. Hey, guys, this is Mike the Birdman here' here
(01:51:15):
talking about something really cool we gotfrom our friends over at Ninja. We're
gonna be talking about the Ninja CreamyNC three ozho one. See. This
is an ice cream, gelato, milkshake, sorbet, smoothie bowl, and
light ice cream maker that has aseven one touch program. So I've been
seeing this thing on TikTok for quitesome time. So about a year and
change ago, my wife and Iboth had bariatric surgery to help us maintain
(01:51:40):
a healthy lifestyle lose some significant amountof weight, and for the most part,
our journeys have been fairly successful. But this is one of those toolkits
that we've seen people use in theirjourney to a healthy lifestyle that has been
utterly invaluable. You might be saying, well, what difference does an appliance
make? Well, what this doesBecause we have different nutritional requirements. We
(01:52:02):
basically have to eat super high inprotein, low and fat and lower in
sugar. But you know, welive in North America, so everybody wants
the super high fat and sugar stuff. It's just kind of the way the
North American lifestyle is. And whenyou have bariatric surgery, that's not so
much a good idea. So whatthis thing is It allows you to create
all these different amazing concoctions that arekind of amazing. In fact, as
(01:52:29):
we got this thing for review,my wife made this like proteiny ice cream
concoction thing, and I would belying to you if I told you it
didn't taste ninety nine point nine percentlike a Wendy's frosty. By using chocolate,
protein powder and whatever recipe magic shewas able to concoct for this thing,
(01:52:54):
and I was utterly blown away byjust how good it was. And
the fact that this fulfills neutral traditionalrequirements for us really kind of blows my
mind. And as we go intothe holiday season, this is definitely something
you're going to want to have inyour toolkit to do different types of holiday
baking, holiday busy, any sortof cooking. But also if you're a
(01:53:16):
student and you want to live alittle bit healthier as you're living in dorms
or residents coming up to the nextsemester, I could see this being also
invaluable too too as well, Likethis is just one of those kitchen appliances
that reaches right across the spectrum andif it wasn't for TikTok, I may
never have even found out about this. I'm really amazed by how easy this
(01:53:41):
thing is to use, how manyrecipes exist out there, be it on
TikTok, Instagram or Pinterest. Like, if you want to get a hold
of this thing, not kidding, you're really going to have to try hard
to find this thing because this thingdoes not stay in stock very long.
That is how highly in demand. And this thing is so as of right
now, as of this recording, there is a Black Friday sale. I
(01:54:04):
highly recommend you check that out. This is most definitely getting a recommendation in
our Holiday gift guide and this isnow a great tool for us to have
in our belts over here at thisweekend Geek for me and my wife to
live a healthier, happier lifestyle aswe move forward. So once again,
this has been the Ninja Creamy NCthree oh one see basically does everything machine.
(01:54:28):
You want to check this out. This thing retails for about two hundred
and fifty bucks Canadian. Trust me, this thing is astounding. Hey guys,
welcome back to this week geek dotnet, and thank you for joining
us for this definitely different show hereon the Twig, and yeah, we
(01:54:50):
talked about Thanksgiving. We've had someawesome reviews from Blacklight. Big thanks to
our friends at Ninja and Netflix forsending over a early preview screener of Scott
Pilgrim Takes Off, which you cannow stream on Netflix dot Com or any
of your smart devices. So yeah, me and Alex have a pretty packed
(01:55:10):
week of recording. Right We're gonnabe recording The Doctor Who Specials with Aaron,
which is gonna be really exciting asI've never seen any of the movies
from the nineteen sixties. We're gonnabe recording our review of Call of Duty
Modern Warfare three, mostly talking aboutCampaign. I'll be talking about some of
the multiplayer and some of the zombiestuff. I'm not gonna be talking about
(01:55:31):
war Zone because it's literally the samething, maybe with some minor tweaks,
but they don't tend to change warZone, so it's a universal experience across
all kind of platforms. We havesome thoughts, we'll say about that particular
title this year. What else wegot We're probably gonna record Star Trek in
(01:55:53):
the next two weeks is we definitelywant to get that done before the end
of the year, because I knowProdigy Season two is out on Blu Ray
right now. We what else diddid did we want to talk about?
I know I recently started watching DSnine, which, by the way,
the first season isn't that bad andChief of Brian's a Boss Quest is a
(01:56:17):
pest. I will say that,Well, yeah, he starts out that
way, and we've got a bunchof other stuff. It's just no point
saying what specifically, because we've gotplans to have things recorded to release when
we're on our hiatus. Yeah, like, there's that stuff on the go,
plus plenty of episodes of Earth VersusSoup plus uh, there's a loose
(01:56:39):
cannon on anime that is done. We're just figuring out what what week we
should Probably it's either gonna drop nextweek of the week after that, depending
on scheduling, and then beyond thatwe've got some stuff in the works.
It's just it's mostly like, hey, we're in a holding patternuntil Black Friday.
Stuff is all we'd over with andthen it's onto the big one two
(01:57:03):
punch that we have every December, which is the first week of December.
We always have the Game Awards coveragefor the prototype, and then our Holiday
Gift Guide usually a day or twoafter that. Yeah, so the last
live show for TWIG will probably beI think Alex and I decided December fourth
will be the last live show. But during that week, as Alex just
(01:57:27):
said, we're gonna have our GameAwards show and the big Holiday Gift Guide
show that'll be dropping on. HolidayGift Guide should go live on December ninth,
so you have plenty of shopping timeto hit up Amazon or your local
kind of retailers whatnot. Game Awardscoverage will probably come out the day afterwards,
just so we have a little bitof time to digest that. I
know. I'm recording some stuff withDavid Denoyer that'll be coming out in December.
(01:57:53):
He actually pitched me a couple ofreally cool ideas that we should be
able to almost maybe even take intothe the new year. I have recorded
an episode of Botched Role I recordedan interview with Matt Forobeck, who is
the designer of the new Marvel roleplaying game, Marvel the Universal Role Playing
(01:58:15):
how him and his son designed thatgame, featuring the new six y one
to six die system. For thatparticular title, I'm going to edit that
this week, so it'll probably comeout sometime. I guess it is either
next week or early December, sothat'll be some content. I am still
recording some stuff regarding my ongoing StarWars campaign, which I'm currently in the
middle of planning right now for myprivate group and whatnot. And then yeah,
(01:58:42):
it's I know, I've got somestuff I want to record with JT
and Ken. JT's pitching a showright now that I think will probably premiere
sometime early next year about the Marveluniverse, and I'll probably be tied in
the sun Sunday Funnies is just tryingto get people wrangled right now, but
with holiday stuff good luck. AndI know we're gonna do something on the
(01:59:03):
Mortal Combat film film universe, becauseI didn't realize how big this was till
I went down to the beat goeson the track down some of these movies,
and I'm like, oh my god, this is a stack. Why
did this get so huge? Andwhy did I not know about some of
these? So I guess I'm abad combatier whatever you want to call me.
(01:59:24):
So yeah, we got a lotof stuff to talk about on the
program, but a lot of thatwill be coming out in December because me
and Alex you're taking a break.I'm gonna play Mario RPG, probably with
Alex as I'll probably get stuck.I'm gonna play Persona Fire Tactical and a
crap ton of modern Warfare zombies anddon't bother me for a month. But
(01:59:45):
I am going to play all ofthe RPGs that I either didn't get for
review or have time to purchase formyself, hopefully right around Christmas. I'll
be spending basically probably two to threeweeks where maybe I'll do some streaming while
we're off, so you might seeme popping up on the YouTube like we
have Twitch, but YouTube, let'sbe streaming at four K and fourteen forty
p oh and it's actually less ofa load on my computer because I can
(02:00:11):
do av one, So I mightbe streaming on there. I might just
be recording clips. We might havesome funny stuff come out. Christmas is
a Monday, which is when weusually have a show come out. Maybe
we'll have a special We'll see, yeah, like we have been talking about
it, like I would love todo something about like there's always Christmas episodes
(02:00:34):
of like sitcoms, and I knowJames Rolf did Halloween specials. I kind
of wouldn't do mind doing like aChristmas special like our favorite sitcom or something
that might be really simple, likeI might dig in and try to find
stuff from the sappy era of theeighties and nineties sitcoms of maybe maybe we'll
see what there was available. Maybeyou and I can watch a couple and
(02:00:55):
talk about them. Yeah, becauseI think that might be a lot of
fun, because come, Christmas specialsin the eighties and nineties hit way different
than ones that were done post twothousand, especially when people started to think
about how things were portrayed. Imean, you think about the Friends Thanksgiving
episodes. As classic as they are, that show has been seen as problematic
(02:01:20):
in the last couple of years. So yeah, I think it'd be fun
to look at stuff from a differentperspective from our childhoods. You know that
we have to talk about the SeinfeldFest of Us episode in that Oh my
god, I forgot about that.Yeah, A Fest of Us for the
rest of us, not a nondenominational, non religious holiday where you can
(02:01:44):
air all your grievances wrestle for poweraround the pole. Around, which for
years after that, Walmart and otherplaces sold a festiv Us poll locally.
Oh oh my god, that's thevital Goodbye to Day. It's just a
steel pole with a like basically justan aluminum pole that was like fitted with
(02:02:06):
a Christmas tree stand and you couldjust decorate it. It was just called
the Festivus Pole. I love it, and that's what'll probably be ending end
up being our holiday special. Butguys, it never stops here. I
know. Next week on the show, I'm gonna have Rubocop Rogue City.
I'm currently working through that game andit's better than I expected, so that's
(02:02:29):
my early preview on that. Ishould have some dungeons and dragon stuff for
next week. I might have someother stuff, but either way, me
and Alex are gonna barrel towards it. You're gonna hear a thing from me
on Alex's review show that'll be comingout this week. I'm promising it right
now, so I get it done. You're gonna hear the Ninja FOODI power
mixer system, and that means Blairwill be doing more Christmas baking, which
(02:02:53):
I'm sure Alex will be delighted tohear. Yes, very much. So
I should be receiving some more stufffrom Kensington to check out before the Holiday
gift Guide comes out, which,as you know, I've talked before about
the keyboard and the headset and someof the other stuff that they sent for
back to school, and now they'vegot some stuff for their holiday times and
I'm checking out some I think it'sa couple of different mice, one with
(02:03:15):
a track ball, as well assome other stuff that fits into the multiple
ranges of like sub twenty five dollars, some fifty dollars, some one dollars
categories for gifts as well as I'mworking on Like a Dragon. The man
who erased his name Sega set thatover a few days back, and I've
(02:03:36):
been working on it well about aweek ago now, and I've been slowly
working on it because i had tocatch up on some of my other stuff
and I've got a few other thingsin the pipeline to look at, some
stuff from CBS Paramount Video sent over, and probably by the time this comes
out, probably more games. Ohmy god, the game. So guys,
(02:03:57):
we are going to have a lotof cool stuff to talk about.
So again, thank you for joiningus. We definitely appreciate you. So
guys, have yourselves a happy Thanksgivingand we look forward to seeing you on
the last show of the year.Actually, no, is it the last
show. No, we still haveone more show after this, so we'll
be back on the twenty seventh withRoboCop and more weird stuff. Either way,
(02:04:18):
guys have yourself as a fantastic andsafe Thanksgiving. Do not reach across
the table and punch grandpa. It'sjust good advice. So until next time.
We have been unless his heart stopsand that's gonna kick it back into
gear. Yeah, exactly, unlessyou have to save his life. It's
okay to punch grandpa. We havebeen Alex the producer, I'm saying saying,
(02:04:40):
only punch grandpa that saves his life. I've been Mite the Birdman saying
try not to eat too much turkey. We'll catch you guys again next week.
