It was not the weekend in Charleston the Mountaineer basketball team envisioned.

A gut-punch loss to Clemson on Friday was followed by Xavier’s record-setting shooting display on Sunday, sending previously undefeated WVU home with two defeats in three days.

Now the question becomes: How will they respond? The Mountaineers have a full week to reset, regroup, and recalibrate before hosting Mercyhurst next Sunday in Morgantown.

In this episode, the “Guys” break down the numbers behind the struggles in South Carolina and explain why WVU left without a win.

The crew also recaps their weekend event and closes the show by answering listener questions and comments.

I'm coming back.

Speaker 1 (00:25):
I don't know what's going on there. Senator came in.
He's got some type of virus. I mean, I'm sitting
here in a human Petrie dish. Probably won't be able
to last through the show. Cold and Flu Season is
just amazing. Can't take these guys anywhere had Immune systems.
Three guys before the game brought to us by go Mart.
Get a Gomart rewards app, download it and immediately begin

(00:47):
saving on food and fuel. Three guys brought to us
by Lou Wendell Marine Sales in Saint Albans. They sell
family fun. Big news coming on, Lou wende I'll tell
you about that a little bit, really okay, Yeah, lu
Wendelmarnes Sales dot Com. Three guys brought to us by
Tutors Biscuit World. Start your day the homemade way with
a Tutor's biscuit by Comac's Business Systems, keeping West Virginia's

(01:11):
business data safe, secure and efficient for twenty five years.
I got new news on them too.

Speaker 2 (01:16):
Wow. I think they're breaking news everywhere.

Speaker 1 (01:19):
Things are happening. Three guys brought to us by Jan
Dill's attorneys at law. They won't they will not take
no foreign answer, and by Connolly's CPA group providing value
beyond numbers. They'll be bringing us spreads on stats all right.
The three of us are back in. Had a good

(01:40):
weekend a couple of days several days in Charleston, South Carolina.
Weather was nice. However, the Mountaineer basketball team suffered its
first two losses of the season painful fashion. West Virginia
falls Friday night to Clemson seventy to sixty seven in

(02:01):
the first game of the of the event for WVU,
and then on Sunday lost to a blistering hot Xavier
team who made sixteen three pointers in twenty five attempts,
equaling the record for the most threes by an opposing

(02:21):
team in Mountaineer basketball history. That took six Other teams
had hit you for sixteen. No one's ever gone above sixteen,
and it's a wild game. Seventy eight to sixty eight.
West Virginia falls. Both teams make the identical number of
field goals. They each had twenty five, but the ten
extra three pointers that the Musketeers had is a ten

(02:46):
point victory. Kind of an a statistical anomaly there, but
that's how the way that worked out. Coming up on
our program, we will talk about hoops. We will kind
of dive in, see where we are, what's going on,
what's going forward. They've gonna we off now, they don't
play again until next Sunday, and then things get busy
next week. They go Sunday, Wednesday, Saturday, so that's going

(03:07):
to get busy. Meanwhile, we've we've really never had this
happen before.

Speaker 2 (03:12):
What's it.

Speaker 1 (03:13):
The Mountaineer women's basketball team is going to be playing
while we're recording right now, playing in their first game.
So we'll do live updates of a game that will
be over by the time the show has posted. Okay,
kind of a real time kind of a real time thing.

(03:34):
We had a great event Saturday in Charleston, South Carolina,
the folks at Fred's Fishworld.

Speaker 2 (03:40):
Lawrence's Lawrence is a fantastic We had a great event.

Speaker 1 (03:45):
We've got some pictures that will that will share with you,
but we had a great crowd, over two hundred people
turned out. It couldn't have been a better sight. I mean,
the sun, the beach, the sand, had everything, it had
everything and everything there and also do techctual healing as well.
I guess we have to start with your obvious observations.

(04:05):
Hoppy was Happy was there for the basketball on Friday.
Kind of just weird seeing him there on the road,
isn't it, Brad?

Speaker 2 (04:14):
It was weird.

Speaker 3 (04:14):
It was great glad to have him there.

Speaker 2 (04:16):
There's no question.

Speaker 1 (04:17):
All of a sudden, I mean, he just didn't see
in the first half I had, I had the second half.
I come back, He's sitting in my seat. I said,
what the hell are you doing? Get on my chair?

Speaker 2 (04:25):
I didn't know.

Speaker 4 (04:26):
I saw there was a broadcast location and nobody was there.
I thought, what is the game starts? Got to jump
in there.

Speaker 1 (04:32):
Now we we we haven't figured out we know when
the halftime's done. You know we'll get that done. But anyway, uh,
we we move ahead. What do you say we start
with a little bit of Happy's obvious observation.

Speaker 2 (04:44):
He's got thoughts that sound rand new yep, but that
things we already knew.

Speaker 1 (04:48):
Absolutely no got his bomb ready.

Speaker 2 (04:51):
Heaven knows, I take it quick before.

Speaker 1 (04:56):
Yep, obvious.

Speaker 4 (05:06):
Perfect guys, Let's start with the game. Yes, game on Sunday,
Xavier made sixteen three pointers, Tony back to you, including
a bank, then three on that.

Speaker 3 (05:17):
I know you're joking, but that's almost that's.

Speaker 2 (05:21):
Yeah, is it? Milicovitch, Milicovich, Miliicvitch. His name is Milicevitch, Milichiev.

Speaker 4 (05:28):
Miler chiefs anyway, Milachievis, Milcheviks, Carol and Wright were those
three Milichuvich, Milchuvich, Carol and Wright. Those three bread were
fourteen of eighteen from three point range. That's seventy eight
percent for those guys. It was a freak show, right, Xavier,

(05:53):
I thought, and Brad, I'll defer to you on this.
I thought they did a good job of making extra
passes to the open man.

Speaker 2 (05:59):
But they made him unguarded. They made him guarded, they
made him.

Speaker 4 (06:03):
As the shot clock was about to expire, they banked
him in, and as Tony Comedy said, on the bank shot,
good God, Almighty.

Speaker 1 (06:11):
Christ shouldn't have gone there. But yeah, I did say that.

Speaker 4 (06:14):
So I'll be interested. We haven't talked about it. I'll
be interested to see what you guys say. But I
think they make sixteen threes, you tip your cap and
move on. I mean, you can't keep up. You're not
gonna make sixteen threes and he can't keep up with twos.
It was good to see Trey Eagle Staff start to
get in a groove. He did not make three point shots,
but he made other shots eight to fifteen five rebounds forces,
so it was good to see him get into the flow.

(06:36):
We're starting to see why although we didn't we saw
this early, really why coach Hodge wanted Honor Huff. I
hope Tony he can hold up physically because he gets assaulted.
He gets assaulted and held. I mean, if it were football,
they'd be throwing flags on what happens with him, like
holding past interference. I mean, whatever it's And he's not

(06:58):
the biggest guy. He's still made in credible shots, Brad,
despite being what he's up against with these defenses.

Speaker 1 (07:06):
Now.

Speaker 4 (07:07):
Overall, despite the losses, it was a great event. West
Virginia fans represent they show up and at times in
both games it felt like a home game. There were
so many Mountaineer fans yesterday, and a lot of that
is there's a lot of Mountaineer fans who took the
Hillibilly Highway and are in the North Carolina South Carolina
region and Mountainer fans could get to the game or

(07:27):
they have relatives down there. How many people do we
talk to this say, well, my kids moved down here.
So it was a great place to have that.

Speaker 2 (07:36):
Kind of event. And the Shriners did a wonderful job.
So it just was.

Speaker 4 (07:40):
And I love the venue, man, I mean four thousand,
but at times it felt like there was fourteen thousand
in there gets loud in there, It gets loud in there,
and you're right on top of the game. So it
was just a really outstanding tournament. And then finally, I
know we talked about this Saturday, but it wasn't on
the podcast, but I wanted, I see, I'm gonna, if

(08:01):
I can get this, going to declare Clemson as West
Virginia's top non conference non traditional rival rival. Okay, because
for some reason, every top non conference non traditional rival rival. Okay,
they're not in the conference, they're not Maryland or not

(08:22):
Virginia Tech, they're not pitched. But for some reason, Brad
Clemson pops.

Speaker 2 (08:25):
Up every few years.

Speaker 4 (08:27):
Right, you run into it, You run into and you
run into them, not just games, but in significant games.
Did seventy to thirty three win in the Orange Bowl
in twenty twelve, one of the significant wins a mountain
of football history. West Virginia's lost to Clemson needed on
Gator Bowl last game for Major Harris. The w women's
basketball team come from behind victory at the Colisseum in

(08:48):
the NCAA tournament years ago, the men winning the nit
against Clemson under John Bline, West Virginia hiding Rich Rodriguez
from Clemson the first time around. Then the Friday game,
which was a great game like a tournament atmosphere means
a tournament, like a postseason atmosphere.

Speaker 1 (09:06):
It was.

Speaker 3 (09:06):
It was a great atmosphere.

Speaker 2 (09:07):
It's a great atmosphere.

Speaker 3 (09:08):
Yesterday had more fans there.

Speaker 2 (09:09):
I think, I know it was. It was incredible.

Speaker 4 (09:11):
So Clemson as West Virginia's top non conference not non
traditional rival.

Speaker 2 (09:17):
Rifle. There you have it.

Speaker 1 (09:19):
Yeah, it was good.

Speaker 2 (09:20):
That picture.

Speaker 1 (09:23):
Already knew you.

Speaker 2 (09:24):
Do that all of that.

Speaker 1 (09:26):
Just didn't say it obviously brought to us by listing.
He's really going at it now they have blistucks smooth,
that's the plan. Yeah, late November on average over under

(09:49):
times you go into lip bomb per day. The number
is at four and a half over eight and a
half over go over at eight times, So you're just
constantly getting a dip off that blisstecks. Yeah tis the season.
I mean you got, you got the guys got to do.

Speaker 2 (10:08):
Some of us just habit in nerves too, Like I
get tired.

Speaker 1 (10:10):
It's a nerve thing you just can't that's your Yeah. Yeah,
kind of like licking your paws, Like if you were
a dog, you'd be the same thing.

Speaker 2 (10:17):
And similar with the blissticks.

Speaker 1 (10:20):
Three guys before the game is brought to us by
Comac's Business Systems. Hey, let's talk about your business phone system.
If you're a business owner, chances are chances are you've
got one that doesn't do what the new ones do.
If it is old, if it's time for repair. Many
benefits to a new phone system from Comacs. Sound better,

(10:41):
able to stay in touch with your employees, a lot,
easier remote calling, capability, forwarding, and more. If it's time
for you to get a business phone system, the folks
at Comacs have been doing it for a long time.
Competitively priced and efficient. You can call them for a
free quote, safe secure, a fishing for over twenty five years.

(11:03):
Comax Business Systems. See these guys got mea coughing now
it's it's ridiculous. I'm gonna come out of here with
typhoid something like that.

Speaker 2 (11:12):
Power through.

Speaker 1 (11:12):
Yeah, Tudor's Biscuit World. As we get ready for Thanksgiving holidays,
they can do this. If you've got people coming over
for breakfast, whether it be Friday day after Thanksgiving or
people come in here Wednesday, Tutors caters. All I gotta
do is call them up. Give you a big box.
Got a big box, a bunch of stuff, biscuits, get
yourself big cimon roll, biscuits, things like to do this,

(11:34):
do that, Got some gravy and whatever you want on there.
Plus the I'm sure if you ask nice enough, they'll
give you those three new sauces that they have. So
they are doing it. Tutor's Biscuit World will cater your
next event, whether it be a breakfast, holiday season, tailgating,
winding down, but holidays as well. Why go through all
the craziness to try to do a breakfast in your

(11:55):
house or lunch? Just go to Tutors.

Speaker 3 (11:57):
Yeah, I'll hook you could do it this weekend noon start.
You're gonna be tailgate and early. Be a great time
for tutors tailgate breakfast.

Speaker 1 (12:02):
Yeah. By the way, we're going to preview West Virginia
and Texas Tech, the final game of the regular season
coming up on Wednesday. Plus, we've got the details finally
on the Golden Blue Enterprise event that's going to take
place in Charleston the night before the Wake Forest game
on the fifth of December. We'll tell you about that.
Details now available. Do you have any obvious observations before

(12:28):
you go into spreads on stats?

Speaker 3 (12:29):
I do have an obvious observation, go that Xavier game
working in reverse here, That Xavier game is a game
where threes are worth more than twos. Obviously I thought
you were going to take that. It's crazy, though, when
you look at these numbers. West Virginia scored on forty
six percent of its possessions. Xavier scored on forty six

(12:50):
percent of its possessions.

Speaker 1 (12:51):
That's hard.

Speaker 3 (12:52):
Xavier was plus thirty points from three point range. West
Virginia plus eighteen points in the paint dominated inside, but
minus twelve if you take their best area. West Virginia's
best area game was one by ten.

Speaker 2 (13:07):
Didn't you keep waiting. I kept waiting for them to miss.

Speaker 3 (13:11):
Yeah, we had halftime. They blistering hot eight of thirteen
sixty two percent in the first half. So okay, okay,
all right, greate, half hang around. You were still within
shouting distance. That's great, They're going to cool off. They
did not. They got better eight of twelve in the
second half. And you guys mentioned it. And I don't
know if I'm in the spreads on SATs now, but.

Speaker 1 (13:31):
Don't go there yet. We have to play the music
before good.

Speaker 2 (13:34):
Go ahead, Yeah, no, go ahead and play the music.
Play the music.

Speaker 1 (13:37):
You ready for that?

Speaker 3 (13:38):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (13:38):
I thought you were just gonna make a general.

Speaker 2 (13:39):
Talk about it.

Speaker 3 (13:40):
I just had the one free production meeting. Threes are
worth one of than twos.

Speaker 2 (13:44):
You can't catch up.

Speaker 1 (13:46):
So I checked the numbers.

Speaker 3 (13:48):
I'll just go right to the numbers.

Speaker 1 (13:49):
Yeah, ninety percent of the time, ninety percent of the
time a team cools eventually during the game. That was
the ten percent where they stayed hot the whole.

Speaker 2 (14:00):
Maybe more than ninety percent happened.

Speaker 1 (14:02):
Spreads on Stats. Spreads on Stats brought to us by
the conleygue CPA group. They provide you, as a business
owner with so much more beyond the numbers. They are, yes,
a general accounting firm, they can do all that, but
their consultation services are absolutely have a premium quality. They
will answer the questions that you have, what's the best

(14:24):
way to do this and what's the best way to
do that for your business. They can also outsource your accounting,
take it away from your headache and just go like,
we got this. We can outsource your account You can
even outsource your CFO services. It's Conley's CPA group. I
take a shoulder. You guys got coughts. I mean this
show we may as well do it from a nursing

(14:45):
homes that pretty soon what do you got?

Speaker 3 (14:51):
Straight into the numbers? It was the at least I
walked away with a feel of two different games. I
do think there's an element as disappoined as you were
with yesterday's game. You do have to just kind of yeah,
the coaches won't because I know that'll drive Ross nuts
that that a team was able to make that many
threes against you. It's certainly the most that he's seen

(15:11):
as a head coach, so that'll make him creaz So
he can't just say, oh, oh well, they made a
bunch of shots, but I think we can, right. I mean,
that's one where you walk away and go, what are
you gonna do? There's a lot. I'll get into some
numbers there. You did some things that were good enough
to win that game. But a team's gonna drop sixteen
on you. That's a hard one.

Speaker 1 (15:28):
That's a Shulder shot.

Speaker 2 (15:29):
You lose ninety nine percent of time.

Speaker 3 (15:31):
The klebson ones harder to agree to swallow, and it
will be harder to get over because you you look
at that one, and that was West Virginia was playing
tremendously well. You led that game for nearly twenty seven minutes.
That that was your game to go win and close out.
And and it was you know, we've been talking over
the last couple of days, Tony, it was. It was
one of a couple of areas and not all together.

(15:54):
You make three more free throws, you probably win that game.
You make another three or two, probably win that game.
Will eliminate one. Carter Welling. Three kids made five threes
all year. Carter Welling, and give him credit, this is
not even a fake. All due respect, all due respect
to that kid. He stepped out and banged two on
back to back possessions when he'd had three all season

(16:15):
going into that point, and then followed it up with
a layup inside. So that one, to me, though, that's
the hard one to swallow. That was just a player
two in a couple of different areas from walking out
of there with what would have been a really good win.
Let's go work and reverse again back to as Xavier
for just a second. Went into that game knowing they
were a bottom forty team and two point field goal percentage.

(16:35):
The whole story was guard the three. You got to
get him forced into miss threes. That's what the team
message was for the entire two days of preparation. They're
going to shoot threes. They're going to shoot volume threes.
They're gonna s keep shooting threes. Those numbers played out
nine of thirty from two point range. They shot thirty
percent from inside the arc and sixty four percent.

Speaker 2 (16:55):
From outside the arc.

Speaker 3 (16:56):
I mean, just just mind blowing numbers.

Speaker 2 (16:59):
Was Brad, do you have stats contested versus uncontested?

Speaker 3 (17:03):
I do, but I don't have them all.

Speaker 2 (17:05):
That's well.

Speaker 3 (17:05):
I did look this morning. The bulk of them were
contested and guarded, so it was like they got a
ton of open shots. They made some wild ones. You
guys referenced that banked in shot. There was one that
was a scramble, the ball was getting kicked around. They
catch it in the far corner from us in front
of the Xavier bench, knocking a corner three there. It
was just some crazy stuff that went down. Nine of

(17:28):
thirteen from three from the left wing, nearly seventy percent
from the left wing three in the game. Just remarkable.
And I'll close with this on the three points made.
You mentioned that's the seventh time West Virginia's had sixteen
threes made against us SO school record made threes by Xavier.
But listen to these attempts for the other team. Xavier

(17:49):
had twenty five attempts, so it was it was almost
the percentage, maybe more so than the total makes. That's
mind blowing. You ready for this. In the other six games,
Cincinnati thirty eight attempts, Pitt thirty eight attempts, Kansas thirty
seven attempts, Bowling Green thirty two attempts, Kentucky thirty two attempts,
Temple thirty seven attempts, Xavier twenty five.

Speaker 2 (18:13):
That's what stand zone.

Speaker 3 (18:14):
They did it in twelve or thirteen less attempts than
most of those teams that you played.

Speaker 4 (18:18):
Against, and most of those coming from three guys who
haven't had an even better percentage.

Speaker 3 (18:23):
Fourteen to sixteen of their threes came from those three
guys that you mentioned. And they and we had mentioned
this with West Virginia scoring before they did it in
kind of a hand off the baton fashion. Trey Carroll
really good in that first half, carried him. Then Brandon
Laurent started matching up one on one with his former
teammate Trey Carroll and Carlton do a whole lot in
the second half. But Milichevic stepped up and he started

(18:44):
banging some in and then all right, of course was
the third guy that made those some other things that
you did well, and again that you did other things
well enough in a normal situation that you win that game.
Held him to just five fast break points. That's the
fewest they had all season. They'd been averaging more than thirteen.
Kept them off the offensive glass. West Virginia has now
moved into a top ten defensive rebounding team. They didn't

(19:07):
get much on the in the way of second chance points,
just five he held Clemson to even less the night before.
I mentioned the thirty percent shooting from two point range.
You did that. You held them below what they had
been shooting, and they hadn't been very good to begin with.
How about from the free throw line. They came into
that game shooting sixty nine percent as a team from
the free throw lines, they banged twelve of twelve. Yeah,

(19:28):
so just crazy. You got to tip your hat to them. Now,
that's one of those I'm still going back through it.
I've got that is the second or third most points
that ross Odge team has given up. So that's what
he's going to point to on both nights, is the
defensive part of that and the let's go to Clemson
now for a second. The jarring number against Clemson again,

(19:49):
I mentioned you led for nearly twenty seven minutes in
that game. You came out and we're playing that hobby
about as well as you can play it. Defensively, they
were really struggling. That was a team that was top
thirty nine nationally in offensive rebounding. You held them to
just two second chance points the entire game. You were
doing a great job there. But here's the number that's
stuck with Ross that he literally described it as inexcusable.

(20:12):
Twenty four points scored by Clemson in the final eight
thirty two, so almost three points a minute right there.
They turned it over just one time in that stretch.
Clemson led at the twelve to forty nine mark of
the first half, did not lead again until three point
fifty one of the second, So it was even you
were right there, but it was just that final few

(20:33):
minutes where it came undone. And I think one of
the interesting things if you look at that game, guys
we talked to Ross about this Tony, it was that
it was the last eight minutes where you couldn't get
enough stops. It was that three possession stretch where Carter
Welling took over the game scored eleven of the twelve
final points for Clemson. But you could also go back
in the first half when you had that eleven point

(20:55):
lead and you probably needed to stretch that to fifteen
or sixteen because Sin did what I didn't think a
team would do. Hoppy, I thought, and maybe this will
still be the case moving forward. We'll have to watch this.
If this West Virginia team got a double digit lead
in the final eight to ten minutes of a game.
I thought, that's a secret sauce, like then it's over
because you're going to be so patient offensively, you're going

(21:17):
to still be efficient. They're gonna have trouble getting enough
possessions to get back again because you're going to guard defensively.
And it just didn't happen. That was the perfect situation.
You're up ten with eight thirty two to go is
fifty six forty six And as Ross told the team,
he said, guys, fifty six points at that that's enough
to win the game. You gotta hold them under that.
That's enough to win the game. And they just scored
a couple too many times and you didn't get a

(21:38):
basket or two and he needed finally eight and a
half minutes and you let that game slip away. That's
the one that I'll go back to, even more so
than the Xavier one.

Speaker 1 (21:46):
Hmm, all makes sense. Yeah, So you come out of
there and now you go from five to oh to
five and two. So basketball, man, is a lot of games,
and this comes at a perfect time. I think this
week off that they have and now you know, now

(22:09):
you've seen different styles of play, you've played against bigger bodies.
Now that's the third time they've played against truly bigger bodies.
Pitt was the other one. And so coaches now will
dive in. I've got total confidence with this staff, the
tweaks that they'll make. Now now they really truly have
a good feel as to what they can and what
they cannot do. So are you bummed out that you

(22:32):
lost too? Obviously? Sure you are. And like Brad, I
mean the Clemson game, couldn't hold on to a lead.
It was there. You get that one, and if you
split down there, you would have went, okay, fine, we
got one. Now we got let's go the Xavier game. Unfortunately,
sometimes those happen. Sometimes you do that to other people,

(22:52):
and it happens and you're sitting there and you're you're
giggling while you're making all these shots, and the poor
buddies over on the other side of going like they're
throwing their hands like what are we supposed to do?
It happens on both sides, and you got one of those.
So now it's as much about really honing in on
what you can do, what you can't do, what the
adjustments are going to be. Fortunately, we'll finally get a

(23:13):
full roster, and Jackson Fields is on deck to rejoin
the team after coming back from the hand surgery. So
you just got to clean yourself up and on you go.
Still a ton of opportunities here. You got wake Forest,
you got Ohio State. You still have your non con
games for the next month and then it's big boy time.

(23:33):
But the big boy was good because we saw a
big boy yesterday and on Friday, and you need to
play that.

Speaker 3 (23:38):
Yeah, flip this around out of some positives. You're right
about Jackson Field's coming back. That'll help. That'll gives you
another big athletic body inside. You saw Chance more on
Friday against Clemson. What a difference team makes I feel
bad there, Tony. That's a wasted, unbelievable play, right that
happened for steel Basket. We'd be talking about that for
a long time had it turned into a win. But
Chance was really good, and I think people saw what

(23:59):
he can give this team. Times you mentioned Trey having
an offensive performance on Xavier that I think that gave
people a look at the skill set that he has.
Your right three didn't follow, but you can see he
made two guys look silly like as the kids say
that broke their ankles on a crossover move. That the
guy like his wobble, and he showed that he can

(24:19):
get to the basket, he can step in and hit
the mid range. Those threes are coming. He also initiated
some offense, had four assists, So that's the other part
of that. You're going to need a second and third
scorer that's consistent to get people off on her huff,
because you're right, you saw what they're going to do
to him. Clemson did this for a while. They just
flat face guarded him. They pulled the old Steph Curry
and just went and stood right next to him and

(24:40):
you took him out. Now, Westbury took advantage of that.
They went four on four and had some drives to
the basket and Clemson had to get out of that
tactic because Westford he made a pay. Their second tactic
was just to simply hug him, hug him, grab him,
hold him, chicken wing him when he was coming through screens.
And that's what other teams in this league, a physical league,
are going to do for you. And you still saw
his ability to get shots off, so he's still going

(25:02):
to do what he does. You need the chance moors
of the world to come along tracing with a great
performance offensively, that the stack on that and he just
kind of keep coming. And Meir Jenkins is a guy, right,
We've talked so much about him, a highly touted freshman
finding his way at this level. I thought he had
a really good tournament both nights. I thought he did
did some things that show you, Okay, this guy's going
to be okay too. He's really talented.

Speaker 4 (25:24):
You can tell that Anna Huff has had to learn
to shoot those tough shots because I'm sure he's been
roughed up all his life because he's not the biggest guy.

Speaker 2 (25:34):
And some of those shots he made over the weekend
were amazing.

Speaker 4 (25:38):
Fall Away guy just pushed him, I mean, pretty incredible
and ego staff you guys know him. I don't know him,
but you would think that that helps his confidence Tony,
because he had his shot had not been fun, didn't
hit the three, but still scored.

Speaker 2 (25:51):
So that's got to help him.

Speaker 1 (25:52):
It's coming. It's coming. He's played too much basketball and
this is just getting comfortable. And this is not a
total stunning surprise. I don't think. To Ross Hodge, we
talked about it before the season never began. It might
take him a month or so to get comfortable, because
we've said repeatedly on this program he's being asked to
play a different game than he's always played throughout his career,
and he is adjusting to that. And then once he

(26:14):
gets cranked up, obviously you teams have to make a
decision as to how they're going to guard on or
Huff differently if Trace and Eagle Staff becomes a factor.
So yeah, it's it's coming. It's a process.

Speaker 2 (26:27):
Bred.

Speaker 4 (26:27):
I thought it was all going to be outside shot
for Eagle Staff and he was taken it to the whole.

Speaker 3 (26:31):
Well, that's what he does. He really good a score.
He's a scorer. He's a he's a really talented shooter,
but he's a scorer. And that's what he was doing yesterday.
He's like, all right, fine, I'm not hitting an outside shot.
I'm going right to the basket on you. So it
was really good to see and you see the attention
he draws. That's how he ended with four assists in there.
So yeah, he's going to continue to get better and
he listen, maybe he has maybe his confidence waned a

(26:51):
little bit internally that hasn't shown externally at all. You
talk about a guy hasn't hung his head, has been
a great teammate, has been cheering, he has been guarding
extremely well, he's been getting on the go. So those
pieces continue to get together. You play really good teams,
that happens sometimes, right, it's the margin of error gets
thinner against those teams. And we saw that over the
last couple of days.

Speaker 1 (27:10):
So off we go. They don't play again until Sunday
and at the Coliseum it'll be a three o'clock starter,
and again get through this stuff, and again opportunities are
coming up here against some good competition before league play
starts with the Buckeyes and with the Demon Deeks, who
are pretty solid and across the board. It's a process.

(27:36):
It's a process. Big news, big news out of the
Big Twelve earlier today on that Players Era announcement kind
of wild. So the league has partnered with the Players Era,
and that means that going forward, starting next season, the

(28:00):
Big Twelve Conference each year will take its top eight
teams the way that they finished the previous season, and
those eight teams will go into this tournament, which takes
place Thanksgiving weekend in Las Vegas thirty two team tournament,
and the Big Twelve each year will have eight of

(28:21):
its teams based on the order of finish the previous
season in that event. It's big news. It is it's
a big news thing and it's very much significant.

Speaker 2 (28:34):
So that means so West Virginia obviously wants.

Speaker 4 (28:37):
To get in that finish in the top eight, finish
in the top eight, But is that what does that
do for having this kind of tournament that we just came.

Speaker 1 (28:44):
Home from there? These are I mean, these multiple tournament
events probably are going to become less and less on
your schedule because they've made changes to The reason multi
team events were popular is because they would count as
one game even though you'd played more than one game,

(29:05):
So it was a way to get away from one
game count. Now they just extended the number, increase the
number of games that you can play, so you don't
need to hide behind a multiple tournament event. But that's
pretty significant of what they came with, and so you'll
hear more about that. But the Big Twelve guarantees itself
that they'll have eight teams in that field each and

(29:26):
every year.

Speaker 4 (29:27):
Is it feasible to think, what are the odds today
West Virginia will be in the top.

Speaker 1 (29:30):
Eight this year.

Speaker 2 (29:31):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (29:32):
Hard, It's hard as a beast. I mean, you're picked,
what eleventh, tenth, it's gonna be hard. You would have
to you would have to exceed expectations. Is it possible
going forward, Yeah, it's possible going forward.

Speaker 3 (29:45):
We'll see because there's a lot of teams. It's there's
some bunched up teams in here. When you start to
talk about I don't even throw Kansas in this mix
because who knows what Kansas will be based on whether
Darren Peterson returns soon or he's out a while. But
you've got teams like Baylor, Cincinnati, Kansas State, Oklahoma State, UCF, TCU,
Arizona State, Colorado, Utah, West Virginia. That's a big chunk

(30:07):
of that league. That's like, okay, short that out for
me right now. You can't tell me which one of
those is going to finish and give me the order.
No idea, you no idea, no idea. Houston, Arizona BYU
look look good. Texas Tech took an absolute drubbing at
the hands of Purdue, which was surprising to see. But
I'll still give Texas Tech they're they're up there.

Speaker 2 (30:26):
JT.

Speaker 3 (30:26):
Topping and Christian Anderson to the best in the league.
And Iowa State hasn't played anybody yet. That starts this
week for them, so we'll see what they have. But
that's that's a good what I just named twelve of
the sixteen teams right there that are throwing in a
hat and pulled out. It's going to be a wild,
wild league season.

Speaker 1 (30:41):
Again, big money, as you might imagine, for this tournament.
Players ERA will commit no less than fifty million dollars
to Big twelve basketball in rights fees over the course
of the six years that they signed this deal. So
this will be the thing like it's you know, it's
not relegation, but it's going to be a carrot that's

(31:02):
waving in front of every program in your league every
year because that puts you into the forefront. This thing
will be obviously a massive media event.

Speaker 3 (31:11):
Now we're going to have to know tie breakers for
the eighth spot. Sure, that'll become a talking.

Speaker 2 (31:17):
Point now exactly how it now. But also what's your goal?

Speaker 4 (31:22):
Your goal is do well in the league tournament and
get to the NCAA tournament. Now it's also get to
that tournament right.

Speaker 1 (31:29):
Finish in the top eight. Yeah, it helps does a
lot for you. Yeah, it does a lot for you.

Speaker 3 (31:35):
Three guys before because real quick, because the players are
a knitz there is they're providing nil funds.

Speaker 1 (31:40):
Yes, that's money.

Speaker 3 (31:41):
That's where that goes. That's why that's become a hot
button topic over the last couple of years.

Speaker 1 (31:45):
I mentioned we had big news on lou Wendel Marine Sales. Yes,
like significant news.

Speaker 2 (31:51):
Okay, go ahead.

Speaker 1 (31:52):
Lou Wendo Marine Sales has become a Honda Marine premium dealership.
I said, a Honda Marine premium dealership. You know why.

Speaker 3 (32:03):
That's how many of those in the state Tony one.

Speaker 1 (32:05):
Excuse me, they're the only Honda Marine premium dealership in
the state of West Virginia.

Speaker 2 (32:12):
That's strong.

Speaker 1 (32:13):
So Honda does not throw these things around, right like chicklets,
they don't throw them around. I mean, it's a real deal.
So lou Wendel Marine Sales now a Honda Marine premium dealership,
and they've got an incredible opportunity. If you got you
want a big you want a big old boat motor,
want a big old boat motor. Got a three hundred
horse power McLaren that is known for absolutely rock power,

(32:36):
performance and a lot of speed, and that is now
available at lou Wendel Marine Sales. You can visit them
in Saint Albans or online at lou Wendelmarine Sales dot com.
That's lou Wendelmarinesales dot com.

Speaker 2 (32:52):
Did you see? Did you see how many of lou
Wendel boats were docks there?

Speaker 1 (32:55):
And Charles stunned. We'd go for a morning walk and
we looked over into that water and there was just thousands,
thousands of boats. Best I could tell, I didn't walk
all the way over to look. You didn't, I mean,
but the best I could tell they were all from
lou Wendell. They're in Charleston, South Carolina.

Speaker 2 (33:12):
The only one that wasn't was that big aircraft carrier
we saw, the.

Speaker 1 (33:15):
Rather large vessel. I don't think Lou does military. Does
he do military or I don't think he.

Speaker 2 (33:19):
Has a military country? Does that yet?

Speaker 1 (33:21):
Okay? May you got the Honda Premium dealership. Now he
might do military air carriers and things like that.

Speaker 2 (33:27):
That's a giant port, a big port.

Speaker 1 (33:30):
Yeah, A lot of stuff, A lot of stuff comes
in going on there. I mean, some of our product
might come in there coffee or I mean that might
come through Charleston, South Carolina.

Speaker 2 (33:38):
You don't know. Might We're more domestic manufacturing anythink.

Speaker 1 (33:42):
By the way, speaking of the popcorn, talked to Trayvon
westco He was at our event the other day. He
was great to say, knows the guy that owns Mountaineer Popcorn.

Speaker 3 (33:49):
Of course he does.

Speaker 1 (33:50):
Familiar with the two hundred plus acres that he has
that he grows the kernels.

Speaker 2 (33:53):
On Eastern Panhandle guy.

Speaker 1 (33:54):
Yeah, it's good to have, good to have him. He
looks good, he does. Yeah, he's staying in shape. See
a big dude. See why he helps?

Speaker 2 (34:02):
You have used him, could have used him this year.

Speaker 3 (34:05):
See why he It's just a massive human being.

Speaker 4 (34:10):
Like but you see like you see people, you see people,
and you see him, you go, whoa, he's a big man.

Speaker 1 (34:14):
That's a different person. Yes, he played.

Speaker 3 (34:18):
We did see Casey leg Yeah we did.

Speaker 2 (34:20):
He's doing great.

Speaker 1 (34:21):
He's the best. So it's constantly chilled out, isn't he
He is just constantly smiley, chilled out. Lives down there
South Carolina, got the wife, got the wife down there,
and he's in the finals.

Speaker 3 (34:31):
His wife Kendall or a wife, Kendall.

Speaker 1 (34:33):
You're saying, okay, very good, Yeah, very good. Three guys
also brought to us by Jen Dill's attorneys at Law.
They simply won't take no for an answer. They've got
clients where we were in South Carolina plus the other
forty nine states, based in Parkersburg, but they serve people
across our country specializing in military benefits and social security claims.

(34:53):
If you or someone that you know needs help in
those worlds of military benefits or social security claims, reach
out to Jan Dill's Attorneys at Law. They do it
every single day, and they can walk you and guide
you through the process and all the bureaucracy that goes
with it. Doesn't cost you a dollar, doesn't cost you

(35:13):
a penny until they get a settlement for you. So
if you've got a claim social security or military benefits,
contact Jan Dill's Attorneys at Law. They simply won't take
no for an answer. All right, you guys ready to
jump in. We're gonna, by the way, as I said earlier,
on Wednesday of this week, we're going to do the

(35:33):
Texas Tech Preview Show. It'll be over Wednesday afternoons. I'm
kind of thinking, Yeah, as a lot of people get
in their vehicles to drive to wherever you're going to
enjoy Thanksgiving, be great listening for a family. Take in
our special Thanksgiving Texas Tech edition of Three Guys.

Speaker 3 (35:51):
Before they get The kids would love that.

Speaker 2 (35:54):
Absolutely.

Speaker 3 (35:54):
They have their own funds, they can put their own
headphones in.

Speaker 2 (35:56):
Yeah. Yeah, Hey, by the way, some listen, kids, you listen.

Speaker 1 (36:01):
Do we need to do a tutorial based upon a
conversation you had a fishworld here the other day because
I still think some folks don't understand the ease of
how you can listen to the show. And I'm not
being like funny about this or condescending about this, but

(36:21):
talk to you. Talk to a gentleman that was really
making it difficult to get access to the show.

Speaker 3 (36:26):
Yeah, I appreciate the effort to get there, but there
was an easier way to do that.

Speaker 1 (36:30):
So if you have an iPhone, If you have an iPhone,
you scroll around a little bit and you're going to
get yourself a little icon and it's purple and it's built.
It comes with the phone and it says podcasts on it.
All you have to do is hit that bad boy

(36:52):
downright corner search, put in three guys before the game
right there like that, and then click on follow, and
then every time we do an episode, it pops in
there and will notify you and say, hey, there's a
new three guys because Brad talk to a buddy and

(37:13):
he was really doing a salamander kind of just weaving
his way to try to get a hold of it.
But that's on iPhones. You can do that super simple,
or you can watch us on Metro News TV or
YouTube and the same thing. Just hit subscribe, hit follow,
and every time there's a new episode that goes there.
I think sometimes I just don't think the industry, and

(37:34):
I'm talking the big the whole industry. I just don't
think anyone really has taken the time to explain access subscribe,
get it, you know what I'm saying.

Speaker 4 (37:44):
Yeah, because there's so much stuff, and if somebody is
really tech sav you go to somebody and you go,
how do you get this?

Speaker 2 (37:52):
Oh, you just do this like there's.

Speaker 4 (37:53):
Some sort of knowledge brand that I don't know where
it comes from, but some people just know it and
other people don't.

Speaker 1 (37:59):
Well, got digit natives and you got digital immigrants, the
digital natives, the digital natives, know exactly where to go.
I mean Brad's kids, they know, they kind of they
kind of laugh at you snicker, right, oh, you don't
know how to do that kind of talk a little
trash and uh. But like for us, I mean, we
weren't born into it, so it's not as easy. But
that's all you have to do to get the show.

(38:19):
Don't make it, don't make it a difficult. It's easy
to get. Or hop he'll just come to your house
and he'll talk.

Speaker 2 (38:24):
Then you and I will be there scratching our heads together.

Speaker 4 (38:27):
We've just put in the number three on the search
number three, and then guys, it will come up.

Speaker 3 (38:31):
Yeah, just throw that forgot major oversight that man, what's that?
Major oversight than me? And spreads on SATs. We're talking
about putting a number in there from fish World.

Speaker 1 (38:40):
Oh yeah, this is a good number. Well hang on
to it.

Speaker 3 (38:44):
Wait, you got another.

Speaker 1 (38:44):
We're gonna talk about that. Let's do this.

Speaker 2 (38:57):
All right.

Speaker 1 (38:58):
Textual Healing is brought to us by episode eight zero
zero dot Com. Episode eight hundred dot com coming up
later this week. On our Wednesday Texas Tech Preview, we're
releasing our Christmas shopping guide that's on Wednesday's episode.

Speaker 3 (39:14):
Like the old JC Penny catalog.

Speaker 1 (39:15):
There very very very very similar, very similar to that.
So on Wednesday we'll have our Christmas shopping guide out
and available for you.

Speaker 4 (39:24):
We need a new picture for the for that for
three guys. That's Brad looks totally different. I look, I
had hair then different glasses. That Tony looks about the same.
You're a little grayer now, but I mean it was
just picture taken.

Speaker 1 (39:39):
Eight years ago, like the first episode eight years ago.

Speaker 2 (39:42):
You can update that.

Speaker 1 (39:43):
That's fine, it's fine, it's good. So here's a couple
of pieces. First, let's uh, hey, Jake, if you would
put the graphic up on the Golden Blue Enterprise event
that we're doing Friday night, December five, will be two
days after the football recruitment signing. What we're going to do.

(40:08):
Brad and I will be there the night before the
Wake Forest game. We will be at the Marriott and
Golden Blue Enterprises is hosting a football signing day celebration
and you are invited. They're taking sponsorships and there will
be a limited number of seats available as well. That

(40:30):
is the website wlvusports dot com slash FB for Football
Signing Day, So FBS Signing Day, go there and that'll
give you all of the information. Who will be there.
Head coach Rich Rodriguez will be there, DOUBLEV defensive coordinator
Zach Ally will be there. Travis Trickett, now it's near assistant,

(40:52):
will be there. And what we're going to do is
talk about the recruiting class and we will have video
of the recruits and we will say, Okay, here's so
and so. Talk to us about him, what makes him
a good player, and we'll do that. So that's the

(41:12):
night before the Wake Forest game at the Charleston Marriotte
brought to us by Golden Blue Enterprises.

Speaker 3 (41:19):
If you head to that site, you can purchase your
table right through there, so correct table purchase available and easy.

Speaker 2 (41:25):
You said you said you're in bread, so you're out.

Speaker 3 (41:28):
That'll be fun. I'm looking forward to hearing about that
recruiting class.

Speaker 1 (41:33):
Actually it's not. It's not a three guys event. It's
a Golden Blue Enterprises event.

Speaker 2 (41:36):
So I'm not included.

Speaker 1 (41:37):
No, you're out. It's not I mean, it's not us,
it's not us.

Speaker 3 (41:44):
You need some rest time, you've been traveling too much.

Speaker 1 (41:47):
I mean, you got a cold. You got malaria from
the Sahara. I thought I was going to need to
sit tight. Now you're out, all right, you spend more.

Speaker 2 (41:58):
Times, that's see. All this goes. Yeah, suddenly not get
any playing time happens.

Speaker 1 (42:06):
I mean it happens. Sometimes you start the game and
then season's over.

Speaker 4 (42:09):
You're not you know, this is the first time hearing
about this. Sorry, nobody's nobody's rallying for me either. Brad's
leaving and hanging all right, all right, fine, homeless. Didn't
talk to you about this.

Speaker 2 (42:25):
No at the home, I never mind. Whatever.

Speaker 1 (42:28):
H Well, sometimes we have their production meetings whatever on
their Hey, we had the event. We had the event
at the beach on Saturday. We've got several photos we'd
like to share with you. Again, Low Country Mountaineer Alumni
group is absolutely terrific. And uh, they couldn't. I mean, so, Brad,

(42:49):
go ahead and give us some of the stats of
the number of clams that were oysters, oysters that were
that were consumed.

Speaker 3 (43:00):
Fourteen bushels of oysters consumed at the event, forty pounds
of oysters in each bushel.

Speaker 1 (43:10):
It's five hundred and sixty pounds of oysters.

Speaker 3 (43:11):
Five hundred and sixty pounds of oysters in the three
hour timeframe of the event.

Speaker 1 (43:16):
You can zip through those quicker guys.

Speaker 3 (43:18):
Just it just it seems like a lot.

Speaker 1 (43:19):
Yeah, it's a ton five.

Speaker 2 (43:21):
Yeah, how many oysters in a bushel?

Speaker 1 (43:24):
Forty pounds worth?

Speaker 2 (43:25):
I know, forty pounds. I'm just I'm gonna do some man,
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (43:28):
I mean, then five hands, high five, the beatles they
all played, including high five, was just terrific.

Speaker 2 (43:35):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (43:35):
If you get the water in the beach, right the water.

Speaker 1 (43:37):
Back there and there's a happy there's a happy guy.
I mean he got he had a glove. That's a professional,
that's a professional clam eater.

Speaker 3 (43:45):
He probably did that. All you can eat oysters, right,
that's what that is right there. Yeah, people are just
crushing throw those things out, you just hammer them.

Speaker 1 (43:51):
Yeah, it was really good.

Speaker 3 (43:52):
We had them. They were very good. How many cocktail
sauce on it?

Speaker 1 (43:55):
There's a rare appearance. There's homeless right there, homeless right there.
He probably had a message for Hoppy that he hadn't
laid to him at that point.

Speaker 2 (44:01):
How many bushels forty.

Speaker 3 (44:03):
Fourteen fourteen, forty forty pounds for Brushell all right.

Speaker 1 (44:08):
So anyway, thanks to everyone out there, and it was
a good event. Here you go, President Benson.

Speaker 3 (44:15):
Benson was there, he and Wren. Thank you to both
of them for coming.

Speaker 1 (44:18):
His son Truman was it. There's Hoppy. He was looked good.
Very there's having a little fun there, good time. How
about Director of Athleticsren Baker was in there. Took a
couple of good shots at Hoppy, which we kind of enjoyed.
So it was a lot of fun that.

Speaker 3 (44:33):
The Alumni Association, Golden Blue Enterprises did a great job
of putting that thing on. That was packed, guys, Oh
it was. It was a great little indoor outdoor. We
had that whole back patio there. So thanks to everybody
that came. There were a ton of folks from South Carolina.
Mountaineer fancy, yeah, it came over. It's great to see everybody,
So thank you.

Speaker 1 (44:49):
A lot of fun. From the text line, being from
beautiful Monroe County, it's a very easy life except one
issue that puts me forty five minutes from Blacksburg with
the high of James Franklin still thinking about his firing.
The excitement from a lot of my friends is building. However,
glaring issue with today's game is the unrealistic expectations. For instance,

(45:11):
how in the Nitney Lion do you go eleven and two,
ten and three, thirteen and three and then get fired
the next season. I'm not quite sure, but I do
know the coaching circus will only continue to grow worse.
I'm thankful for coach Rodd and our program. We haven't quit.
Things are going to continue to build. Prayers to a
wonderful season, beautiful Thanksgiving to you and yours, and we'll

(45:32):
see in Charleston for the holiday hoop Fest DJ Monroe County,
thank you very much. Yeah, they'll be a little They
got to crank it over there Virginia Tech right now.

Speaker 2 (45:41):
Yeah, he was at the ballgame. Yeah, last ball game.

Speaker 1 (45:44):
Got a forty one million dollar deal plus nine million
dollars from Penn State on the restructured buyout, so he
got himself fifty million dollars. It's good life, Texter. Three guys, longtime,
first time Texter. I was walking into my office the
other day. Gentleman stops me and he says, oh, I'm sorry,
I thought you were Ren Baker out of the corner
of my eye, to which the guy with whom I

(46:07):
was about to meet, replied, Yeah, maybe Ren Baker's before photo.
He then took a picture and texted it to me
to prove his point. I'm trying to decide if I
should be offended. Please help me decide if I should
still call this fella a friend.

Speaker 3 (46:21):
So there he is.

Speaker 1 (46:22):
That was his pre That was his pre Wren picture.
Hop thoughts.

Speaker 2 (46:27):
I'm not sure I understand.

Speaker 1 (46:30):
He's saying that guy looks like Reren before Ren lost weight.

Speaker 2 (46:34):
I mean, I don't know.

Speaker 4 (46:35):
Maybe I'm just so used to seeing Wren, who looks
now lean and I mean looks.

Speaker 1 (46:38):
Great, fighting machine. Yeah, looks like a fighting machine. Absolutely, Yeah, No,
don't mean I mean yeah, I mean there's some similarities.
That guy's got two legs, Rent two, Wren's got two
two arms. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (46:50):
Well, if somebody, if somebody's coming up to you and
they're commenting on your weight, yeah, get out on my face, man, Yeah,
what are you talking about?

Speaker 1 (46:58):
Michael and Clodin writes, Listen.

Speaker 3 (47:00):
You're supposed to read this why it says, please don't share?
Which one the Michael and clodon.

Speaker 1 (47:09):
Where do you see that?

Speaker 3 (47:10):
The last sentence?

Speaker 2 (47:11):
Oh, please don't share, but please don't share my opinion
if we can't.

Speaker 3 (47:16):
But my opinion is, oh yeah, don't yeah, don't be
just for you to read.

Speaker 2 (47:20):
Don't read well.

Speaker 1 (47:21):
Stop writing stuff that doesn't get out in the air. Okay, fine, gentlemen.
I don't want to exaggerate my contribution to landing the
commitment from Kevin Brown to the Mountaineers, but as an
employee of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, proud alumn of WV,
I've been faithfully driving my vehicle with the flying West
Virginia plate and hitch covers on the streets of Harrisburg
in the hopes that Kevin would follow country roads to Morgantown.

(47:41):
My only piece of advice for the youngster is to
quickly learn it's West Virginia University, not University of West Virginia.
I recall sitting in the stands as a student when
the stadium booed James Earl Jones for saying University of
West Virginia. I couldn't believe we booed Darth Vader anyway,
so excited to have coach rode back, let's go Mountain
ears matt in Central PA. I'd say this with the

(48:01):
level of recruits both in basketball and football. I'll take
a University of West Virginia. If I can get the
young man, I'll fix the WVU later. Not a problem,
whatever you want to call us. Nathan Charleston, South Carolina,
first great senior All Saturday, A lot of fun about basketball.
I'm not discouraged. Friday learning moment for everyone involved. Against
a good Clemson team last night, one of those nights

(48:22):
you ran into a hot team. Like y'all say, the
team is allowed to improve, and I think it will.
Two concerning things seem to do a lot of isolation
and at times we drive it in and just stop.
These things seem to bog down the offense side note,
let me know where you guys ate while you were here.
I know y'all had some good food, you know.

Speaker 3 (48:39):
One note on that there is a lot of isolation
and that's by design. And Friday night you saw at
a bunch with Jasper Floyd and there were times when
it worked very well. You're backing down so a couple things.
You're working clock at that point, you're trying to bleed
the shot clock there to give the other team limited possessions.
It also forces the defense to identify what you're doing.
If you stay one on one against you, there's a

(49:00):
lot of times with his strength he's going to be
able to get in and finish. If you have to
bring a second defender over, that's going to leave a
shooter open on the perimeter. So it's also a way
to flesh out defensively what you're trying to do there.

Speaker 2 (49:12):
By the way, Friday night, coach Hodge very engaged, very engaged.

Speaker 1 (49:19):
What does that mean?

Speaker 4 (49:20):
I mean he was he was working it, he was working,
he was having and I think we talked about this
before the season, how how was he going to approach officials?
And he says, you know, he wants to have discussions,
he wants to have relationship, but he's not just not
going to bark at him all the time. He was
very animated Friday with some of the officiating.

Speaker 2 (49:39):
Rightfully so.

Speaker 1 (49:40):
And you had a guy that had a horrific night,
just bad, you know what.

Speaker 3 (49:46):
It's yeah, let's leave it there.

Speaker 1 (49:52):
Made What really makes you angry is when an officials
having a horrific night, but he doesn't quite realize that
he's having a horrific night.

Speaker 2 (49:59):
That's bad.

Speaker 1 (50:01):
Uh. Pete Thamil didn't ask me anything On Twitter Okay,
did you put that graphic up? Please? Taking questions here today?
Ask away. Guy writes in how do how do you
keep getting West Virginia's stories before? Hoppy and Pete wrote
secretly Tony Kreedy leaks them all to.

Speaker 2 (50:22):
Me like him.

Speaker 1 (50:27):
Yeah, one of these days, one of these days your
paths will cross. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (50:32):
He puts me to shame and my time is over. Yeah,
and he's just he's peaking a texter.

Speaker 1 (50:40):
Hey there, it's Joe from bo as quick question, what
happened to the jumbo package for the football team? Why
wasn't it utilized in the latest game against Arizona State.
So that's a fair question. They put it away for
a while before they made Curtis jim as a running back,

(51:02):
But they had Curtis Jones as a running back against
Arizona State, So you would think because Ty Edwards was
the reason why they were using it, if you remember,
that's when they did it against Pitt So you would
think maybe maybe even this week, if you got a
short yardage, you could put Curtis Jones back there as
the big back and then all those big boys nine
offensive lineman, quarterback and a big running back. Texter I

(51:27):
was watching the program about the Buffalo Bills, and you
guys are right. There's always a connection, no matter where
you are or what you look under. So if you
see that guy right there, he's got a flying WV
on the right side of his chest there hoppy below
his armpit.

Speaker 2 (51:42):
Of course he does. Why wouldn't he?

Speaker 1 (51:45):
Yeah, Texter three guys Quinn from quinn Wood, probably not
his real name. Last episode multiple Texters giving free passes
to their kids for Sweet Caroline. I thought i'd share
my story from the pit football game as all after
when my daughter goes down to the wall gives high
fives to our players as they go by. Our seats

(52:05):
are near the visitors tunnel. After the win against Pitt,
she went down to the wall. Unbeknownst to her, I
was a little bit behind her. I then noticed her
arm extent as she gave Nardoozi the bird his entire
walk down the wall. To this day, to this day,
she does not know I saw it. Obviously, geez, she

(52:26):
got a free pass.

Speaker 2 (52:28):
Can you believe what Pitt's doing rolling? I mean football?

Speaker 1 (52:32):
Yeah, surprising season, it is surprising. Yeah, almost gave that
one away there against the Rambling Wreck on the.

Speaker 2 (52:39):
Well a yard return for.

Speaker 3 (52:44):
Help him hit basketball not rolling?

Speaker 2 (52:46):
Not rolling?

Speaker 1 (52:46):
No ad lost her against Quinnipiac.

Speaker 3 (52:49):
Hurts West Virginia like Handley a business against Quinnepiac.

Speaker 1 (52:52):
There, yeah, text her all capital letters, warning, emotional postgame text.
I drove the whole way to the in law house
listening to the game. I've got a bruise on my
thigh from repeatedly punching it in the car. I cannot
believe that on tonight, of all nights, I have to
sleep in this hell hole.

Speaker 2 (53:11):
Jeez.

Speaker 1 (53:13):
So apparently he's got Clemson in laws. There's the house.
They got the Clemson Tiger above the fireplace. Tomorrow morning,
I'm gonna have to ride in a Clemson golf cart
and drink Clemson coffee, and wear a Clemson shirt and
go to the Clemson box. No tongue clicks. See a
Sunday for the loser's bracket game. I thought we had it.

(53:33):
Let's go Mountaineers.

Speaker 3 (53:35):
There's a lot of Clemson stuff in that house.

Speaker 2 (53:37):
Is that right?

Speaker 1 (53:38):
It's the Early Orange House.

Speaker 4 (53:39):
They are West Virginia's biggest non conference, non traditional rival rival.

Speaker 1 (53:49):
From now until December. The yeah, I'll go with it.
I don't know who else would be. We run into him,
We run into him, Yeah, I mean they pop it's
it's a thing.

Speaker 3 (53:58):
And who else would be on that list. We'll get
some texts on the texts on that what'd say it again?

Speaker 4 (54:04):
Non conference they're the biggest non conference, non traditional rival rival.

Speaker 3 (54:10):
Yeah, so obviously like a Virginia Tech can't be included
because it's a traditional rifle. So here here you're going.

Speaker 5 (54:14):
Okay, three guys brought to us by I mean now
to Ohio University, the good folks at Gomart right now
until December the nineteenth, we invite you to go in,
take your rap with you.

Speaker 1 (54:25):
Do the Marty's Merry Spin. You hit up there inside
the store on the QR code and you spin, and
you've got the opportunities to win great prizes and stuff,
thousand dollars gift card, five hundred dollars shopping spree, five
thousand bonus reward points, one hundred and fifty bonus reward points,
or just free candy. So go in, scan the code,

(54:47):
do yourself a spin. Marty's Spin available at Goma. You know,
got a new one opening up in Beckley really yeah,
like soon, like in the couple of weeks new Beckley
store open.

Speaker 3 (54:58):
At the new build like a new build, right and
great build.

Speaker 1 (55:03):
Let me see here. I met this guy in Charleston,
South Carolina. He said that he was from Hagerstown and
my group is from Martinsburg. So we went down a
rabbit hole and he asked if I've never heard of
Homeless Dave after I told him I'm a three Guys listener,
and that's where things got really awesome. So there is
Trayvon Westco his buddies from Martinsburg, and then Homeless Dave

(55:26):
studying announcement. Homeless Dave. I'll just just prowl in the
streets at Charleston, South Carolina.

Speaker 3 (55:31):
Those guys are great. So they were at Lawrence's, all
three of them, including Travon there with the game, sat
just a couple of rows behind us.

Speaker 1 (55:37):
Study. Yeah, Texter, Joe and Holly Marshall. Right, hey, we
found Hoppy, but where is everyone else? There was Hoppy
there right in front of Larry's Fish World. They found
no one else was there. Well done, thank you very much, Texter. Welp.
If we learned anything from last year, it's that mtes

(55:59):
don't mean a thing. Come selection Sunday Love the Show.

Speaker 3 (56:03):
Eric, Well, that's a good point.

Speaker 1 (56:04):
South Jersey last one, Devin and Goshen. I'm not saying
it's Hoppy's fault we lost, but I am saying that
he's been in attendance at the last three games and
we've lost each one of them.

Speaker 2 (56:19):
Causation correlation, that's true. At you can.

Speaker 4 (56:23):
I mention a couple of things absolutely other things. Yeah,
two things. One is that the wv men's and women's
soccer teams had great years, and the men's team lost
yesterday to high point three to two. Season comes to
an end, another great season for head coach Dan Stratford,
end of the career brand for one of the.

Speaker 2 (56:43):
Greats, Marcus Caldera.

Speaker 4 (56:44):
Yeah, Caldera, two time All American, might be a third
on the way, three time All Conference, current Sun Belt
Conference Player of the Year, Offensive Player of the Year,
twenty twenty four Academic All American of the Year. Third
in WVU history with forty two career goals and program
record seventeen game winning goals.

Speaker 2 (57:05):
Brad one of the all time greats.

Speaker 3 (57:07):
Seventeen game winning seventeen.

Speaker 2 (57:09):
Yeah, So Marcus caldera career comes to an end. But
what a career for him.

Speaker 3 (57:13):
Interviewed him a bunch over the years on Sports sign
Really fun guy to talk to. He was terrific, no doubt.

Speaker 2 (57:18):
One other note. So Thursday night then an event at
the Mylon Park for Don Neeland.

Speaker 4 (57:23):
Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, honoring Don Neeland, who, by the way,
turns ninety next month. And I tell you what did
I was happen to be the Masters ceremonies because Tony
you weren't available, and so I filled it. But former
players Jeff Hostetler, Kevin Cochin, Mike Logan, Fred Small's, Mike
Collins were all there. Brian Jose Wax in a video,
Bill Krolavitch sent a video. Dwight Wallace was there. You

(57:45):
know what stood out to me about all this players
brand is not one of them. And they spoke anywhere
from like five to twenty minutes. Not one of them
mentioned a game, a particular game. What they all talked
about was coach Neeland as a person, how he impacted
their lives, the lessons that they learned from Donnelan, and
that program that they use have used in life to

(58:08):
become successful. Because all these guys are successful and sometimes
in these and you guys gets into the players. But
we get caught up as we should in the games
and in the outcomes and things like that. But these coaches,
if they're doing their job, like don neland did as
well as anyone better than most, have impact lives. And

(58:28):
I just was taken aback by how much those players
were deeply moved and affected by their personal relationship with
don Neilan.

Speaker 3 (58:35):
Yeah, you're right, I think that gets passed over a
little bit now, but super important part of the part
of the process. Certainly don't talk about it nearly as
much as we did back in the don Nalan era. Yeah, right, right,
You just don't hear that as much anymore, No.

Speaker 4 (58:48):
Because it's all about because there's a lot more player
movement those kinds of things. But Tony, those guys, and
you know, all those guys, and all those guys have
been very, very successful. And Fred Small's was very poignant
because he came in. He's spoken and he says, I
was from the streets. He says, where I came from,
you didn't talk to people. People didn't talk to you.
I came here and people talk to you and don
nieland and of course Neiland told me later said Neil

(59:10):
Fred Smalls drove me crazy.

Speaker 2 (59:12):
But Fred Small's had a very.

Speaker 4 (59:15):
Successful career in security for celebrities and now is an
ordained minister. And he says, I don't have the words
to tell you what don Neeland meant in my life.
Think about that for a second.

Speaker 1 (59:24):
Yeah, I mean most of the time when these guys
are out of it, they say that the games are
like secondary. When they're here, obviously it's the only thing
that they think about. But after it's all over, it's
the relationships.

Speaker 2 (59:36):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (59:36):
And Don constantly gets phone calls from former players back
those days of Bowling Green. They just hey, coach, just
want to say hi, because they change it, you know.

Speaker 4 (59:45):
Can I give you a coach moment too? Because he's
still the coach, right. And So there was a wonderful
event at Myland Park, Ugleish summers at a wonderful job.
But it was fairly long, a lot of people speaking.
The Senator was there, Senator Justice and a lot of
other people. So, and the players are supposed to go
five to seven minutes, and you know, somewhat a little
bit longer. And Donnelon is on stage the whole time.

(01:00:07):
So about halfway through so I'm coming back up to
the microphone after somebody spoke and coach is sitting about
where you are, Brad, and he says, hey, hop you
tell them it's five. They're supposed to go five minutes.
They're going too long.

Speaker 1 (01:00:20):
That's my guy.

Speaker 4 (01:00:21):
Anybody that's the coach follow what the coach. So it
was it was a wonderful event, and uh, it was
just it was just so meaningful to hear those players
talk about Don kneel and and Brad, you both know
what he has meant to not just the football team,
but the university and.

Speaker 1 (01:00:41):
The state state. Absolutely, yeah, absolutely, all right, very good.
Court is a court's out of session here. We are
going to turn this thing around and be back. We're
going football. Last regular season preview.

Speaker 2 (01:00:55):
What an off What a weird off week.

Speaker 1 (01:00:57):
Very weird off week.

Speaker 2 (01:00:59):
Because the season over witm it. There's another game.

Speaker 1 (01:01:01):
Weird, really super weird off week, Texas Tech and West Virginia.
The good news is we got a noon start Texas Tech.

Speaker 2 (01:01:08):
Won't know where the winder watcher.

Speaker 1 (01:01:10):
Yeah, I mean body clock here, the big body clock,
body clock, Brad, big bodyclock. Game hasn't seemed to hasn't
seemed to have been a problem for him in the past.
We've we've played the body clock with him. Texas coming in.
They're gonna be eleven in the morning. Haven't had good
results against those fellas, you know.

Speaker 5 (01:01:27):
Line up one last shot here Nuts since Nuts, since
Pat Mahomes played for him.

Speaker 1 (01:01:30):
Yeah, bring that Mahomes back so we can get a win.
