On, Switch Off with the Specialnews podcaster again. Welcome back, Paul.
Hey guys, I'm back. Firstspecial guest appearance. I love being
here and we're gonna talk about Bmovie tonight. All right, So,
(00:52):
B movie switch On, Switch Offis a nineteen eighty five song by English
rock band B Movie from their firstfull album, Forever Running, which is
released on November nineteen eighty five. The music video for switch John Switch Off
was directed by John Scarlett Davis andcurrently has seventy seven thousand views on YouTube.
The John Scarlett Davis Hectarlett Johansson Davis, Right, Yes we have that's
(01:19):
right. A friend of the podcast. John Scarlett Davis, the director of
Ross Clouds Across the Boon that's whatit is. Oh, it's crazy.
He has like a he's directed. We'll probably end up doing another one of
sure, because he has so many. Yeah, he has a vast library
of work here. I'm sure we'lldo one of his erasure videos. Oh
(01:41):
yeah, who needs love? ButI'm actually surprised. He did a lot
of Cocktail Twins songs too, andjust Moral Coile Oh wow, a lot
of songs and the Siren by thisMoral Coyle, a lot of Asta camera
yep, and then a lot oflike that. Those bands like Lilac Time
Associates, Ryan's favorite band of alltime. A lot of them just lost
the bands man, he did DonnieOsmond, Soldier of Love, im Soldier.
(02:05):
Look, that's like something that youwould figure actually. Okay, guys,
Ryan Louis and Paul, what isyour history with B Movie or Sir
John Switchoff or whatever? What haveyou? Take it away? Yeah,
that's all Here B Movie is badass. B Movies one of the premiere
post punk bands of all time.Nowhere Girl always has a special place in
(02:30):
my heart. The album with theGirl on it, it's always a sought
after artifact. I think I've ownedseveral copies I've lost several copies of the
LP. Yeah. Yeah, it'slike the official release with the beautiful girl
in the front. It's like aMaxi single, right that one. Yeah,
Yeah, it's reminiscent of the Damnkind of reminds me of that too,
of what is that the fantasmic area, Yeah, kind of has that
(02:53):
kind of effect, you know thatthe pictures inspired by I forgot his name,
but like there's photographs the same kindof pose with the so it's a
it's a reincarnation of that photograph. It's iconic. Interesting, it's in the
classic British upbringing right of of likethe Oscar Wild Days come taking. I
think the new Romantics and the postpunks the kind of like you know,
(03:14):
they were they were longing for thatromantic connection with I don't know if it's
Victorian or not. Maybe maybe VictorianModern Night for sure. Yeah, but
I will I will say this though, Al's brought the big movie back.
I mean we always knew about thehits and stuff, but I think Al
and Ryan brought the like the postpunk, gritty stuff, and then we
(03:36):
started going, Wow, this stuffis good. It's real good. Yeah,
I'm totally with you, because Idon't. Obviously, we just knew
about the hits, right, right, we all knew No Girl Maryland Dreams,
I think remember and say that versions. Yeah, yes, so we
knew those, and they also theyplayed in the clubs, right. But
I remember clearly we were at LouiseAue and your aunt was she had the
(03:58):
CD of the Dead Good Tapes, and we were like, what they have
this and then like the contrast ofthe new wavy kind of synth, kind
of a pop music in contrast withthe more early hits of the post punk
sound like you said. So whenwe heard that, we're like, wow,
I didn't know they made those earlysingles. And that's when I really
got hooked. And I think,I don't know. I bought the ceat
(04:18):
way later though, Did you everget it like that? Yeah? I
actually there was a record store nearbyhere in winter back in the late nineties
called Al's Records, right, norelation, but yeah, like and they
they had that Good Tapes on vinyl. Oh, and I like, okay,
like I want to hear this versionof ogir. Do you remember that
(04:39):
when you're bought it? You know, the back in those days, you
had like the CD now or theAmazon with Amazon was just books and CDs.
I couldn't believe like that that thatexisted, Like it was a CD
of like old like versions of theI didn't. It's basically their EP DeVos
exactly. And the thing was that, like you know, back then we
were in a band, right, yes, And the music they were playing
was kind of like in the scenein Vain, those those were playing,
(05:01):
they were as they were, butlike it was an unlike like joy division
meets yeah, like like getting afour almost yeah, because it had that.
It had those very like bass lines, Yeah, that's what it was,
and then those glassy guitars that arejust like blasting in your face.
Right. I mean it's also verylike the production isn't very high, so
it's still very It's the thing thatwas really attractive about it was the raw
(05:25):
punkness of it mixed with the romantickind of dark dreaminess which it was post
punk was. It was a perfectcombination the creamy, the savory, the
dark. It was nice. Iremember hearing B Movie, I think through
you know, through Nowhere Girl, but then I remember finding a Sire like
mix Vinyl and B Movie was onthat too, and I forgot what I
(05:47):
think it was like Remembered Today orsomething like that, one of those songs,
and I was like, oh,wow, this song's fucking cool too.
Remember when you would go to likea third Story and you would find
like a sampler album and they wereon the sampler album, Oh thing with
like Sire is, Sire had them, Sire had like my Bloody Valentine.
Sire had like all these really bandstoo, and so I would buy all
(06:09):
I first, I love compilation albums, especially vinyl, because then I could
take less things when I go becauseI could play like four songs off that
thing. So I remember finding that, and I was also super jazz because
that's around the same time that theCD fell into our ears and we needed
hearing all their other stuff too,So it was kind of like all like
a all happening at the same time, you know. It was just kind
(06:30):
of one of those things. Iwent to through store. I was just
looking through the albums. There wasin ship there. I found that one,
and I was like, oh,that's a score. Yeah, that
happens every once in a while. It still happens every once in a while.
It was nice. I don't knowif I'm dreaming this. But I
almost think Al made me a Bmovie tape, probably probably with with like
a hand drawn penis cut, No, a hand drawn cover, like or
(06:54):
not a hand drawn maybe a handcompiled cover. Well. I I used
to make tapes and then he woulddraw, yeah, for a few of
them, actually not too long.Yeah, because we we were having like
a couple months trip on B movie. They were like there was just so
like, yeah, it's so gritty, we like it. So who we're
doing that? I remember that,Yeah, I probably did. I probably
did, because when I found theDead Good tapes on Al's records, you
(07:16):
know, it was that vinyl,I just like, oh my god,
you guys got to listen to this. It's like, that's what it's like
our band if you're actually are good. Because I remember we're goofing on on
Institutional Way. That was the track, and that was that was That was
the one we meaned on the most. And pretty pretty quickly you learn how
to play like the Maryland Dreams onthe keyboard, right. I remember buying
(07:43):
you know, we talk a lotabout in this podcast about going to Tower
Records and buying expensive ass import singles, and there was a I think it
was the third party probably unofficial BMovie twelve mention there No We're you know,
the the six minute version of NoWe're goirls on one side and the
B side was Rememman State and thenMaryland Dreams, and I just saw,
like, wow, these three tracksare just like mind blowing to me,
(08:07):
you know. And that's kind oflike how I kind of started having this.
I was calt like obsession with BMovie. Yeah, it was just
all you. It was all you, right, and it's like, you
know, and then anything by BMovie, even bootlegs, I would just
grab. And I know not everybodyknows about them. It's just like that's
the if there's like a cult bandthat I followed, it was this band.
You know what's even more exciting isthat you know, like they have
(08:28):
one hit song, right, it'svery popular, but you realize there's so
much more, so much more.Catalan Girl was pretty high on the Flashback
five hundred list, right twenty Yeah, nohe Girl peaked at like number eight
or seven or something. And kRock Splashback five hundreds, right, and
that was a vinyl that you wouldfind that a lot of their was all
the time. Yeah right, Yeah, I told you I had multiple I
had multiple copies over the years, multiple copies. That's I remember Ryan scoring
(08:54):
on Forever running on the Third Story, and I was so jealous the actual
yeah, the whole album. Yeahyou found the record. Yeah, you're
right. Yeah, and that's sobad. I'm like, I can't believe
it. I was so I wasfrom That'd have been funny if that would
have you would have had a Netflixdocumentary because you would have killed Ryan with
(09:16):
like something like count mister Ripley's style. Let's talk about how recently how b
movie broke your heart? What isthat true? Wait? How did you
break my heart? Didn't you buytickets for Oh? Yeah, yeah because
of them? And then they didn'tthat that heartbreak? Yeah? Okay,
Like there was a time about beforethe big festivals that Cruel Worlds and Darker
(09:39):
Waves are hitting this part of thecountry, southern California. There was a
fest I think. I'm sure thepeople who started Cruel World Darker Waves are
the same promoters. It's like itwas a long beach riders, right.
It was gonna be at Huntington Beach, the same place where Darker Waves happens.
They were having a new a festivaland I'm like, hell yeah,
b movie was performing and I wasso stoked and I'm like fuck yeah,
(10:00):
bought tickets first day. And thenhow many years ago this is twenty nineteen,
and at that time the current administration'svisa issues were so strict that like,
be we cannot secure a visa,so they drop out, Yeah,
drop out of the bill. Andso I was like that, like yeah,
man, wall I was back ininitional walls for me. And then
(10:22):
they still and since then, theystill haven't been on any of the big
eighties bills, which is a bumman, right, And I mean they're they're
constantly touring there we see right nowto a bunch of their right five shows.
Yeah, last week they just performed, you know, they performed locally,
and you know it's probably way cheaperfrom and their following is usual there.
But it just sucks that they can'tcater to me here. It's come
to me, come to me likeSorrio. Wow. But yeah, you
(10:46):
know, like besides that, whatI whatever he said here is like yeah,
no, Ora girl. I justfell in love with that song originally
because I was everyone's introduction to thatband. Right. Basically, it's a
girl and just that just the breakdownin the composition of that song, even
the long ass intro. It justkind of lit some endorphins in my head
that, like only a few songscan do. Is there no video for
new work, not an official video, No, like there's a few fan
(11:09):
made ones, and you know, but for me, it's like, yeah,
I really I I read as songas I just started going deeper into
their catalog and when this rabbit holethey they came up with newer EPs during
this decade, well to the twentytens too. Now they always throw out
new new materials, but it's nevera full album. And they actually had
two more albums in twenty thirteen andtwenty sixteen. Yeah, but the twenty
(11:31):
sixteen one, I actually have iton vinyl. But my cat ate the
corners well cat right, But it'sit's a great album too. It's more
refined definitely than the old dead goodtape style. Of course, of course,
you know, production value, thetechnologies got better, but it's still
the theme as far as lyric concernis still the same. A lot of
(11:54):
heartbreak, semi political, there's alot of social commentary, you know,
that's Steve Huffington, the singer andbassists Forte. I guess when when he
writes his lyrics for the band.Yeah. But okay, guys, on
top of that, before we getto switch on to drop, it's time
for the pop quiz. But itwill be right back after these messages.
All right, guys, that popquiz Bone up on your B movie?
(12:16):
Yeah, you know the B andB movie sounds for Bone upon Up Movies.
Contrary to proper belief, B isfor the second reel. Okay,
guys, first question, right right, Okay, I'm gonna go through second
three guys and tell me whether it'swhat the answer is? Okay, it's
you know, basically multiple choice.Yes, okay. This BBC radio session
(12:37):
and Forever Running Track for Running beingB Movies album and they did a BBC
session as well a couple of years. Okay. This BBC's radio session and
Forever Running Track is about a breakdownof a relationship and how it was likened
to a harsh environment. What trackis it? Is it a Mediterranean b
(12:58):
Welcome to the shrink see Arctic summeror d just Ancho summer, Paul says,
Arctic summer. All right, right, it's good with the shrink,
right, walk into the shrink.I'm gonna go Mediterranean. Paul is right,
(13:18):
Beginner's luck. It's because I sharea deep, deep connection with the
Arctic Arctic fox. Turn. Youknow, some polar bears are there?
You did you know that polar bearsare actually breeding with grizzly bears because their
food source is so low that they'recoming so close to inland that they're mixing
up with And they're called grollers, and and and scientists surmise that eventually there
(13:41):
will be no more polar bears. There will only be a colony of grollers.
Grollers. Yeah. I wonder ifthose grollers would be I mean,
because you know, like how whenyou make the like a donkey, right,
they can't have I wonder if they'llbe sterile because because mules, right,
meals, mules are only males.Yeah, I can't have any females.
Give a new bank called the BayCD Grollers City Grollers alright, sod
(14:05):
question. After their first breakup innineteen eighty five the movie Keyboards Falls OUTA
moved on to take part in abacking band for his charismatic singer Okay Hey,
Brian Ferry b Peter Murphy, CEEBaltimoa or D George Michael. Okay,
Louis, I don't want to sayPeter Murphy because I think you put
(14:26):
that in there because he's your favorite. So I'm gonna say I'll say Brian
Ferry. But even though I don't, Okay, Brian Ferry, louises Brian
Ferry, Ryan, it's Peter Murphy. Rhymes is Peter Murphy. I think
Louis one hundred percent right. Itis Brian Fairy Awry, Guys, sorry,
guys, rhymes Peter Murphy. Yeah. He took part in a couple
of Peter Murphy's albums in his peakof a solo career which he was known
(14:50):
there. He took part in thewhole Cut You Up? Did he play
that fern to cut you up?Well? Maybe he did, but in
the music video it's okay with seethe guy playing the bow, but I
think that was actually pauls Adam playingThat's impossible to get with a base.
I don't know remember's day? Bambitrack takes place on? What day?
(15:15):
All right? Okay? So ANovember eleven, B December eighth, C
January fourth or D January nineteenth that'smy birthday to again, who gets a
November eleven? November eleventh? Yeah, Louise, wait is that your birthday?
(15:39):
No, you Knowmber birthday. I'mgonna say November, Louis eleven eleven.
I'm gonna go November. You're allright, are veterans? That's right?
Yeah? Because is it not forarmist to stay or no? Correct?
In England, that's called amiss stie. So yeah. In the United
Kingdom, the mean of servants isRememberance Sunday, held on the Sunday nearest
(16:03):
to eleven November. That's when youwear the red the red flowers. Ah
wow, look at the brain onmoving. You come here for those kinds
of things. And then because thatone of those flowers on my scooter Remembrance
Day really quick, there's no videofor Rememberance, say no, not if
I see that. But that waslike their biggest hit, which is weird.
That was their biggest hit. Butthis came out before the Heyday.
(16:25):
They n have the budget for areally right, they just paid for studio
time. Yeah, how dare you? We had a budger. But they
know they know was hit was ahit because they you know, we recorded
it for the forever running album. They probably had a budget. They spent
it on a party, but didn'trecord it like slowly. That's true.
That's true. Yeah, if youif you read the liner and the their
(16:48):
Peel Sessions CD talked about parting witha lot of fucking drugs. Many yeah,
okay. Question number four, whatB movie track was featured in the
iconic nineteen eighty one compilations Some BizarreAlbum Louise? Okay? Maybe okay,
a Moles b Nowhere Girl see Institutionalor d Scared some Life into me?
(17:17):
Which iconic track you said? No? Which I'd say iconic compilation? Oh,
it's not necessarily an iconic track.Okay, you know it's always iconic.
I don't remember. I'll say MolesLouis's Moles. I'm gonna go with
Institutional Walls. Right, I toldyou that was it. That was Moles,
(17:37):
Yeah, most Ryan Louis. Yes, tell you a little bit of
a certain pride in my B moviefandom. You know, boys pretty active
in their social media thing and especiallyon Facebook, and they were asking fans
like, hey, what the songshould we be performing as an opening track,
(17:59):
you know, our opening song? And I suggested Moles and they fucking
took that through heart man. It'sexactly what they did, really, because
Moles has a great build up.As far as it's hard to start a
song, it's hard to find. It's not remember that title, Okay,
Yeah, Like I remember going tovideo on Aaron's Records and I bought a
B movie Maryland Dreams like c DE me thing, and that's the first
(18:22):
time I saw that song. Andit's not for either No, it's not
in there. Yeah, Moles. It has a great build up. It's
also a great sound check song too, so you know, like I just
thought like, yeah, it's agreat opening song for like, if you're
going to perform a gig, suggestionmiss it so much that Moles was actually
about Moles because we love Moles thetime. About Moles underground, they can't
(18:47):
be found. That's the actual harryfor the song. Okay, time for
the lightning round. Since this musicvideo deals with a heist, these are
heists in history, tell me ifthis heist actually happened or not? All
right, So I have one, two, three, four, five,
six heists to tell you. Allright, So I'm going to cycle through
(19:10):
one of you guys, it's goodand tell me if this heist actually happened
or not. Okay. First one, the Dunbar Armored robbery in nineteen ninety
seven, Six men stole approximately eighteenpoint nine million, thirty seven million dollars
adjusted for three dollars from the DunbarArmored facility in downtown Los Angeles. An
inside job. The heights was mastermindedby Alan Pace, who was the regional
(19:34):
safety inspector for Dunbar. He wasfired the day before the highs for tampering
with company vehicles. Knowing all theins and outs of the facility, Pace
employed his longtime friends as they assembledat a house party to establish an alibi
before leaving, where Pace uses keysto gain admits to the facility. Once
inside, the ambush, the guards, who were on on their lunch breaks
(19:56):
of doing all the employees with ducttape before they could signal any alarms,
and no shots were fired. Ina half hour, the robbers had loaded
eighteen point nine million into a waitingU haul truck. Pace knew exactly which
backs contained the highest denominations and nonsequentialbills. He also knew where the recording
devices for the security cameras were locatedand took them group then returned to the
(20:18):
house party. Okay, well itwas a house party. They're playinghouse play,
was hanging out there, and thenafter the robbery, the group used
various money laundering methods to conceal theirill gotten goods. One of them,
though, made a critical error whenhe paid a real estate broker a stack
of cash bound together with the Dunbarbranded currency straps. Oh rookie moved yep,
(20:42):
suspicious. The broker then went tothe police with that first domino.
The FBI caught up to all thecriminals and they all received heavy sentences.
Okay, so is that one trueor false? Was al Pacino the cop
that caught them? Or no?Was it? It sounds like what's that
movie? He sounds like he I'mgonna say that's false. The movie says
(21:06):
it's false. Ryan, Okay,I'm gonna go true. Right, that's
true? All right, d dingding That's one hundred percent true baby,
All right, Yeah, these guysare right. He's wrong. It is
still everybody knows the duns very fuckingheigh. It sounded like a movie.
I was like, this is fake. Yeah, thanks a guy. Synopsis
of a movie. Little did youknow? The B movie favorite heist was
(21:26):
the Dunbar heist. It did happen. It's actually at that time, in
nineteen ninety seven, the biggest heistin la alright, So this one,
second one, the Banco Central burglary. All right. The thief started landscaping
business near brazil Central Bank. Overthree months, they tunneled through two hundred
and fifty five feet disabled the securitysystems. It broke through three point six
(21:51):
feet of steel reinforced concrete to enterthe bank vault. Ultimately, the Brazilian
Federal Police made several arrests in connectionwith this heist and covered a portion of
the stolen seventy plus Brazilian dollars undredthirteen million adjusted inflation. True or false?
True or false? So okay, cyber faull Okay. I know that
(22:11):
the way that they did it istrue. Whether it's in Brazil or not,
I don't know, because I've heardthe same story where guys drilled.
I'm gonna go with true. Pause, that's true, all right, I'm
gonna go with false. RYA's false. I'm gonna go with false. It
sounds like a movie. Also,No, that Paul is right and it's
true. Well, that's true, too, that actually happened in Brazil was
(22:32):
what's her name? We did whatevervideos? The comedian from Simpson's Well,
did you have a movie where theyhave a pizza place? And then they
throw into the time about the WoodyAllen movie in the theater? Yeah,
from Small Time Crooks, Small Times. Oh my god, forgot about the
(22:52):
movie. Okay? True? False? Chicago's first national bank Golden Joe Swinsky
was an illegal gambling gang in Chicagoduring the Prohibition era who collaborated with the
six man Suggings gang to hold upChicago's first national bank, stealing more than
thirty thousand dollars six hundred and eightyeight thousand adjusted for inflation today. During
the hest, three of the menblasted her tommy guns against the wall to
(23:15):
scare off any would be heroes beforerunning out with the money. Eventually,
all criminals were captured or killed bythe police, but the money was never
recovered. True or false? Okay, Louis, I would think that would
be false, But I've said falsethree times. I'm gonna go false again,
Luis says, false. What yearwas it again? I missed that
part during I didn't get an Actually, it's probably true. Well that's forties,
(23:38):
righties thirties because there's giving a lotof money in the bank. She
we got some prohibition era scene,so right, true, all right,
I'm gonna go with false because Idon't believe in the Sugs Gang, the
Seconds Gang. All right, Ryanis wrong? True? Yes, the
(24:00):
Suns Gang is a is a standup bid by John Wully, John mullaney
Shane. It was telling about likeold old timey bank criminals. Hold up.
He's like, because how you we'vebeen hit by Gold and Joe the
Suggs Gang. I knew the SubsGang was made up. I'll nail that
it was real post comedian first, you know how these things were. I'm
(24:22):
a sex median, okay. Numberfour hot the Boggyo Bank cyber heist.
Oh, the Baggyo Bank cyber heist. In twenty sixteen, twenty five fraudulent
instructions were issued by security hackers bythe Swift network to illegally transfer close to
one billion dollars from the Federal ReserveBank of New York account that belonged to
the Badyo City Bank, the Centralbank of Bagia City, the summer capital
(24:48):
of the Philippines. Philippe come tothe Philippines. Five of the twenty five
fraudulent instructions were successful in transferring twohundred million, with portions of the money
erring to India and Saudi Arabia. The Federal Reserve back in New York blocked
the remaining twenties transactions due to suspicionsraised by that typo within the instruction.
I guess the code instruction right. And then as of twenty eighteen, only
(25:12):
around eighteen million of the two hundredmillion transfers the poteenes has been recovered and
all of the money transferred to Indiahas since been removed. As of this
date, no formal arrests has beenmade due to complicated extradition laws. Okay,
fall Fall says it's true, rightfalse, rhys false. I'm gonna
(25:33):
say false. Also, Okay,Paul is wrong. I did base this
off a real thing that happened, but it was in Boggy It was different,
but the same idea. Oh okay, But the thing is that they
did catch the people who got themoney back them. They caught it before
it really got bad. Okay, this one a little more local as well.
(25:57):
The Eastern Sunday Heights. The thefthappened at gard Old Facility in the
Los Angeles suburb of Somar. Theburglars managed to break into the money storage
facility completely undetected as they broke throughthe facility's roof and wall institutional walls and
it used to steal thirty million dollarsfrom the ball as. At this date,
(26:18):
there have been no arrests. Whatyears is it happened this year?
Oh? What's it's in a bank? They it's a place where they actually
money hold money. Oh, Ithink a million. I don't care that
much. There's one of those placeslike in Montery Park. Yes, exactly.
I'm gonna say that's false. Ididn't think I would have heard of
it if it happened. I don'tremember hearing that. I'm gonna go with
Paulus as well. Yeah, I'mgonna go true, just because why not
(26:42):
mister try and fall is correct?Yes? Oh wow? Yeah that this
happened back in April. Oh shit, back in Easter Sunday Sunday Heights.
Where was the They still haven't caughtanyone? Wow? And they got away
with that much yain. They burnedthrough the roof and then there's a side
wall as well, and they madeoff with that much money. Damn,
that's a lot of money. Ehyeah, Yeah, that was a complete
(27:03):
shot in the dark eye. Andthen finally the Swiss Golden Rod plane heist.
All right in two thousand and oneand a known amount of organized thieves
stole the shipment of golden guts froma Swiss plane, valuing over eleven million
dollars just for inflation. Of course, the plane carrying the loot was in
the middle of a transfer when therobbers, disguise as airport security personnel,
(27:25):
stopped the jet with a fake emergencynotice. With a distraction, they snuck
out over three hundred pounds of goldto a waiting van, which was then
moved to a rented garage on theairport grounds, and then called for a
tow truck to have have it hauledaway. As of this date, there
have also been no arrests or suspects. When didn't this happened two thousand and
one? Okay, Louis false?Louis says false. I'm gonna go with
(27:45):
false. Bryan says false, I'mgonna go false. You guys are all
right, that's fast to pull outthat much gold. That's heavy. Yeah,
that's the central plot of the movie. Heist with Gen and Brian's feveritactor
ball time. I'm delry Lindo boy, he's my boy. He's awesome del
Okay, So that concludes a Bobquiz. Time to talk about the music
(28:08):
video. We're job switch On,Switch Off. This reminds me of a
classic eighties video like you. Yeah, it's like a mini movie, like
they come up with a premise andthe director is the one who wrote Hi
up with the premise. He wrotethe video. It says it's written by
him too, damn. So yeah, he finally story boarded. He had
(28:29):
people. I think he even SweetSweater the Griffin. They're at Hogson.
They're at Hogwarts playing a show,Hogwarts Residency, Hogwarts, and there's this
ball happening red well yeah in theokay, they're in the Saltburn Mansion.
(28:51):
What it is is I think it'sa prom right and they're the prom band.
No, I don't think it's becausethey're all older people. Yeah,
they were all builtsered. Certainly itwasn't a problem because they're always where.
It's like bicycle students were played bythirty year olds. But it's like a
they're definitely a rich persons. Yeah, you're not gonna have high school students
carrying expensive tiaras they have, butif they're rich kids, but you need
(29:18):
you do need like a Fidelio passwordsto get into this party, right,
you can tell that there's money there. It's one of those fundraisers where like
you go and everybody's all you knowthat that. Yeah, it's like it's
like an episode of like Batman, you know, and like Baman cartoons.
Bruce Wayne is always doing some kindof fun all the time for the Orphanage
(29:41):
in Gotham. Who shows and thenthe shows up? But this time it's
a band. That's right, who'sdoing the who's doing the theming? But
yeah, they're they're enjoying yourselves.Like I've never seen a band perform so
happily because they probably know their planis gonna work, right. Well,
they're they're so happy they're gonna hitthe a pun chop after and get that
sweet cat right, get that sweetsound as a pound. So but here's
(30:06):
the thing. Who's the secret Nowherea girl that they that they pulled into
their gang because she's not part ofthe band. Right, she's not part
of the band, but she's she'sthe I guess, the liaison between them.
She probably got them the gig, that's true. You know, she's
the inside because she tells her friends, Hey, I know this cool band.
I'll get them to play, andthen they're you know, scheming the
yeah with the sticky fingers. Whatare they called. They're called b movie,
(30:30):
baby Movie. I think they madea song called inside Girl you living
in Mules in the walls. Butseriously, as a for first time viewers,
you see this girl he's kind ofgoes forward in front of the row
and like checking out the band thatshe's really into their music, and the
band's just like happily performing, smilingat each other. Drummers like, yeah,
(30:55):
they all look new romanticked out rightclassic eighties quaff. They have a
look that's like right in between newromantic and then also kind of like echoing
the Bunnymen, where they're kind ofeither with the layering, you know,
and then also they have you know, you know what I'm saying, that
kind of cash, but it's stilldressy. Years is eighty five eighty five.
That's probably abc up a little bita little bit, but not not
(31:18):
that like suit ye suit era ABC. It's kind of cool. Look,
yeah, you know, they're they'rejust comfortable with what you look like classic
British cause like they look like blowmonkeys. Yeah. And the thing is
that they wouldn't really fit in thatkind of event, which is kind of
cool. Yeah. You know,I I've dated a couple of fancy parties
(31:40):
in the you're the help, You'renot like you, You're not like the
server of the because people started drinkingthe like to remind you of that when
they ask for the same some times. Yeah, and I remember Louis Orchestras
in a high stew when you wasDJ. There's been a couple of parties
where I'm like, that's fine thesetwo four two. I've never done it.
(32:04):
But have you guys ever taken anythingfrom a party or again? One
time, my ex girlfriend and Iwere at this strange bar party and they
were blitzed out of their mind, you know, and I was blitzed too,
but I wasn't blitzed as them.Where they just started picking up the
ash trays, these beautiful ash traysand beautiful lanterns. They just they start
taking them. They're made of ametal. Their crafted very nice. So
(32:29):
it was like they were they werelike these lanterns. Yeah that's what they
weren't ash trays were there were lanternssome sort of and they were just like
walking out one by one and theygot so pissed and they stopped them and
they got into a fight, andI was like, twenty one could do.
I'm like, I'm not involved.I didn't take these ship. I'm
fucking I'm out of here. Ohthey got caught. They got straight up
and it was funny because the promoterof that bar or club was like wasn't
(32:53):
like old or anything. She waslike a young girl too, so so
they got into like a straight upcalf. They're like me, that's crazy
because those girl I think I knowthe girls you're talking about that were theven
I mean they have money. Theyall went to private school and ship like
and they're just was still. Theyjust said we want these They were Winona
(33:13):
writing it just give us our ship. We'll give you everything you want,
just you know nothing. Did Iever steal anything from a party. I've
always wanted like a CD. I'mlike I want that CD, but I've
never done it, you know,I personally, haven't. I've had my
I remember when I was a kid, my mom had a party and then
(33:36):
like someone stole jewelry from from yourmom. Yeah, and that was a
bummer. So I think I've seenthat and I'm like, no, that's
kind of fucked up. I don'twant to do that. And these people
are having me to their house. But I'm not sure if you guys went
to this party. But was itcalled the Blooms There die rockers die playing.
You can remove all this part, but dis are removed, and it
was people were not actually people werejust like dancing. Everybody's buzzed or any
(33:59):
probably you know, like around ten. So the party, you know,
because start in the daytime. Andone of the people that lived at this
it's a big house, big backyardthat had like the photographer, like the
white it was like a really setup take pictures, you know, professionally.
And then one of the people wholived there, he came down.
He was fucking crying, dude,he was crying his shirt off, He's
just wearing his jeans and he's likeit's like hysterically just like yelling at somebody
(34:22):
stole his wallet and and he stoppedthe party and he made this huge scene.
Man, he picked up the table, he fucking threw it over and
it broke, and then everybody wasjust like frozen just watching him. Dude,
and he wouldn't it almost like hewanted to stretch out his his hysteria.
It's like he wouldn't be pissed ifsomeone stole my ship. That's and
(34:43):
then of course parties touching his backpocket. He's like, he's like,
hey, I drive off my caroff on me. Hey, guess while
said do this. The coolest thingis that one time to go over at
the carpet cleaner to this guy's ida. So I don't know if this counts
(35:07):
as stealing or not. It probablydoes if you have to ask, No,
it does, but it does. But there's an art to it,
so it might it might get anexemption. Brian Jordan and I were at
a party and we were fucking lacedup on We're laced up on some somehowusinagenics
and weed and all these rich chicksthey had like a like a loft party
(35:28):
or some shit and uh, andthey were inviting us to the room to
listen to records and stuff and somewhereor another there was this Viking hat and
I just decided, Okay, I'mgonna invoke a flavor flav and I'm gonna
wear this Viking hat. And theyall fucking loved it. And I was
doing like weird antics with the Vikinghat and that wasn't my Viking hat,
and I just fucking walked out withit. So I don't know if that's
(35:50):
stealing, but I did entertain themfor hours with Viking antics and shit,
So maybe I paid for it throughspirit spiritual tax maybe maybe right. I
mean, you were you were inthe influence of a substance, so you
you just thought just how to makeassumed it was yours because it's part of
your. It was you, itwas part of you, your a private
flame. Yeah, he just said, put on the hat, do some
(36:13):
flame. I think the last thingI ever stole, but I didn't know
I was stealing. It was likeI was at a seven eleven. This
is like a nineteen ninety eight orsof it. I was seven eleven and
I was reading an issue of BatmanMister Freeze at a seven to eleven,
and I was open at that time, and I just like, I was
so into it, and we hadto get out, and I was reading
it on the way out before Irealized we were in the car. I
saw the issue on me, SoI mean that was no part was pictures
(36:37):
on the spiritual karma out of thatas well. You had to go back
like the rock and go payback that, right and I still have that,
yeah, of course, just stolen. But yeah, but this caper right
here, the lights, the lightsgo out, the lights go up because
there was a tiber. There wasa time because there was four at there
(36:59):
was best way too early for aparty. And this is four in the
morning, which I doubt a partycould be that peaking at four in the
morning as well. This is atfour pm. But it's pitch Blacks All
Rights Act. Summer outside of Englandright now, highlands you know in the
Salbury Castle, the moors. Yeah, maybe the marsh and the moors or
(37:20):
the bog the bog take me tothe bog. You know there's bog hounds
and you gotta watch out for those. But yeah, there was a timer
at four o'clock. All the powerwent out and so in this power all
the rich people are like, oh, what's going on? Cheer what is
going on? But that is goingand kissing the ladies, but then stealing
(37:42):
their stuff. Right there, theirearrings jaras wearing the black gloves, right
they put on examina black gloves, forensic forensic black cloves. They do nice
little kisses and then they gently liftthe earrings off the ear lobes, which
is crazy. Who couldn't tell theirearrings are being And that's the darkness would
be? Movie just regaling you andswitch on to the chop you know.
(38:06):
Yeah, the music plain but startedthe instrumental breakdown part of the song when
this happens. But when you putthe black gloves on, no one feels
your touch. That's a good point. It gives that extra stell the black
mas. That's so funny. Theyput the black gloves on, and then
everybody has tattoos after when the lightsshurt on movie tattoos. I want to
(38:28):
violate you. How do you getin here? And then so eventually the
lights turned on again, but someof the band just like grunts in the
stage and they're late, right yeah, continue just playing the song without any
prep or sound checks or anything.Yeah, they're back, you know,
everything turned back on and they're stillhappily playing on the whole crowd is like,
yeah, would you say that everythingswitched on? Switch on and switch
(38:53):
on wearing the gloves? Right?Oh? What am I doing this?
You know? Did you play guitarwith leathery gloves? Latex? I believe
so? Okay, but yeah,so they start picking up again, and
then and then slowly though the peopleyou know that they start to crowd start
to realize that their precious jewels aregone, and then they just like,
(39:15):
Okay, the jig is up,We're out of here. But really mentioned
in the beginning of this movie, the band and driven in by a beautiful
was it a Bentley right? RoyRolls Royce silver Ghost? I mean,
this is beautiful condition to do you? Okay? After watching this video,
(39:37):
do you think they made enough moneyto go buy more instruments and still have
a little bit of money a profitbecause they left their instruments there. Yeah,
but what if they rented in ifthe instruments were already there, they
just had a setup already for them. Yeah, We've been to parties where
there it's already a bad set upand we just go play them and we're
like the rudest people at the party. Was one of the butler's in on
(40:00):
it because there was a classic Butlerscene where he's with the candelabra and he
gives you that like creepy look. It's always the Butler because they're like these
people man, they're like man.But you don't see him in the car
later right now, he wasn't in. Yeah, I think he will get
his cut out. Maybe he's theone that got get our instruments for us,
that's true. Yeah, but yeah, Bad takes off with jewelry with
(40:22):
the girl. You're all happy. This is daytime now right for you know,
well the sun's coming up right, yes, yeah, so I think
it is for in the morning.I think it is party hard that hard,
but they look good, solid people. Probably it's probably an after party.
They probably clubbed it up. Theyprobably went to see some neuromatics club
and then they went there. Theparty isn't an eyes wide shirt thedally soyleth
(40:43):
party, right. It seems like, well, yeah, I'm sure that
sweater they were going to force thebad get naked. It would have been.
It would have been the Tom Cruisemusic with blindfolds in the beginning,
right. If they would have gotcaught, they would have made like Tom
cruise and make him their clothes off, and then the girl would have said,
I will be What did she She'slike like, I will speak for
(41:06):
him. That's why she said Iwill speak for him. Kubrick got the
idea for shut from this video.Maybe I think I like that. Yeah,
Like Sandy Krek was having an eightiesbender this video, like I'm going
to make a movie solely directed onthis. Not only will I fake the
moon landing, I will make amovie based on B movies. Heist,
They get me that far fetched andthen they dream they drive the car off
(41:30):
of a cliff. Well, no, it was for evidence because then it
would prove that they drove it offor eighties forensics, that would have been
a valid way to do it right, to go around things. Or it
seem like they died, yeah, like oh well they all died. Yeah,
you know they must have been inthere, this before the infancy of
DNA. Right, they just hadhoboes in the back, and I didn't
(41:57):
know they had such long beards, camp beans. It is perfectly working,
probably seventies rolls Royce that they justrolled off casually, And I've never seen
people so happy rolling a thing likethat. It explodes too, and they
looked down at it like and thenyou know it's crazy when they roll it
down there, it's like somebody's backyard. You see those homes were there,
(42:21):
crazyn't care moving, man, they'recrazy, bro, They're just sticking it
to the bou joss Z. They'rejust like, hey, you know what
rolls Royce, they left them outof the They said take this to the
bog hounds. The rolls when ithit an institional walls hit someone's backyard.
(42:42):
I told you someone's offence. That'dbe funny if they just stole the jewelry
to wear it, and at theirnext show they're all wearing the jewelry like
they're like, we didn't want tosell it, wear it. We just
wanted to multiple earrings on and alla tiara. Even now, in the
future music videos, you boy,George would have enhanced this video if you
(43:07):
made a guest appearance as like asleuth. Then he's like doing some investigation.
Now we have rocketed the quality ofthis music video. He says,
that's the karma karma chameleon that's goingto get you. As the New Orleans
dancers with him, and so yeah, it's basically the music video First Wish
On to a Job. It's aheist gone right, right, says Fly.
(43:30):
We've tried to try to bleed itfor everything that it's worth, but
it's a pretty straightforward video about aband who is actually cat burglars who actually
hist a party. It's very well, it's very well directed, too well.
It took a short film. Ilove I love how they show them
stealing the stuff, like going upto their you know, like almost like
giving them a kiss, start whisperingin their ears, and then you know,
that's kind of cool. So howwould you compare this to his work
(43:52):
of the same year, Cloud Acrossthe Moon movie. Oh, that's a
way different video. That's like thirtyseven seconds. Actually, yeah, that's
just like a loop of stuff, right, it's eight minutes with thirty seven
seconds. That's the same year. That's the same They must have gave him
like fifty bucks for that video orsomething, yeah, because that's but he
(44:13):
was able to pull up a decentset across the movie, but it looks
like they were using like an oldbeer factory or something like that. Yeah,
the only thing that was cool is, uh, the Lizzy's apartment.
That's pretty cool. I like that. Oh that's right. I mean imagined
a cool place for a video.I liked it. Yeah, yeah,
I'm sure it's a real message withthe chandeliers, you know, it's a
place. Yeah. Well, inmy buddies, he's always looking at like
(44:36):
property in England. It's like that, and he says it's like you could
buy like an old castle for likeeight hundred thousand dollars over there. I
mean it's fucked up, but likeyou could buy. Like, guys,
that's our money. Let's just moveda fucking castle. Yeah. Yeah,
I'm sure there's multiple rooms. Yeah. Probably those toilets that just you know,
like every day, those toilets thatare just like you put your butt
(44:58):
outside the window and it goes tothe floor. Englyn Paulus will finally get
to live his dream of being theFrench taunter Niggas. He's like, someone
wants to come into the postman.I'm like you for your mother smells of
elberries or something your mother smells.Okay, so I'm included the music video
(45:21):
for switch on, Switch Job.We'll be right back for some notable YouTube
comments. All right, guys,it's time some notable YouTube comment. Okay,
so bit Petrol four thirty says. The part where the lights are switched
off for the jewelry to be stolenreminded me of a nineteen eighty three episode
(45:42):
of night Rider called Kit the CatWow, where Michael Knight investigated a series
of burglaries where the daughter of arecently deceased notorius cat burglar played by Gena
Davis Blake for a set of elaboratemodern day Robin Hood esque robberies. You
guys unders that, but Gid Daviswould have been a good catwoman back in
(46:04):
the eighties. She hasn't thought aboutit. I would have been sold.
She's so tall and luscious, andshe's an archer too, like an Olympic
or really really can she shoot withher feet? Maybe it's pretty limber and
have you seen those feet shooters? They're great? Okay. Next YouTube comment
is by Chee Chee boy Pumpy ohAh the days when I struggled to copy
(46:25):
the hairstyle of Dave Gone and beforethen I was too young and not yet
into New Way and can't tell bmovie camouflage from defest mode but too young
for New Way. Well, youmust have been like ten years old because
I was ten, I was inthe old way. Is like any British
looking people with you know, coops are are new. It's called before
(46:47):
the internet. Say, I meanthe camouflage song. You could be like,
oh, maybe this is defechement.I don't know camouflage, that would
be yeah, I could see thattotally. Yeah, Like if I heard
it real without with being competent nottelling you who it is, I would
have sworn that was dependent being moviethere. I don't I don't hear that
at all. Connection but all tomake that mistake as a kid, I
(47:08):
didn't remember hearing switch On, SwitchOff on the radio. Okay, Well,
before we get on the last YouTubecomment, what do you think of
the actual song of switch On,Switch Off? Their better ones? I
think yeah, of the later yeah, from that this is not in the
dead Good tapes right, No,definitely, Yeah, this is completely made
for the album. It's a differentanimal. It's it's more polished. I
(47:29):
mean, it's a good song,but I'm more of a classic. Yeah,
it's the old post punky And that'sthe thing with this personally, like
my old My if I threw youthis forever running album, they really lean
hard into the romantic sound, youknow, the kind of went almost like
Coast one oh three level, youknow, with Nowhere Girls, it just
sounded. So the edge was goneon Nowhere Girl and Remembrance Day on their
(47:54):
newer takes on this album. Alot of the lyrics of the Forever Running
album is more about of the theiredge of during the BBC session Dead Good
tapes about political stuff and it's gone. I'm sure, well you see that.
That's it's a common thing. Theyhad angst as a pure animal,
and then what happened is is they'relike, well, we want to market
you guys, right, I'll putyou on the radio. So they had
(48:15):
to do that little thing right, and I think CY Records did try to
push him as a legitimate new waveback, but apparently this album flopped as
well, and they just decided tolike, Nope, we're cutting you guys
off. Where you guys are done. That's well enough. But the Nowhere
Girl that we know that's not inthis album, right, No, that's
same exactly cut production. No,that was from the nineteen eighty two,
(48:37):
like eighty two. Even the NowhereGirl that we know that we know nineteen
two. Yeah, yeah, okay, okay, that was from nineteen eighty
so early then yeah, three yearsbefore him. So yeah, they re
record No Girl for you know, for this album it sounds like a coast
one oh three. Ay. Yeah, the adult contemper were contemporary all of
a sudden. Oki Okay, Andfinally Mike Super says the B side switch
(49:01):
off and back on again, dedicateto all the ID professionals out there.
You know, well that was thenumber one comment on YouTube. Course there's
ae d movie don't switch On,Switch Off, dedicated all the I tst
(49:21):
there He's back. He switched backon. Okay, guys, switch on
switch off by the movie? Areyou keeping it or are you throwing back?
Looie? Oh, I gotta gofirst. I like the video,
I don't like the song. Reallynot into this song at all. I
don't know. It doesn't have theyoung banks that I crave. Way yeah
(49:45):
yeah, you know, like sometimeslike an older band. You know you
like the older stuff too. Let'ssay, like just like Heaven, right,
even though I love Early Cure.Just like Heaven's a pretty good song,
but the rest of that album isgarb. But Lily, you're making
me cool. I know, I'mproviding you to get a bunch of hate
for this you taste, man,I don't take that from from you.
(50:07):
But no, I'm gonna keep thevideo. I really like the video.
You know, it's cool. Yeah, yeah, I really like the video.
I think it's cool. I thinkit's a cool premise. I love
the you know, I love thethe videos that have like a like a
movie that fill to it really reallycool. The directors really did really well.
I want to watch some of hisother videos to other than you know,
Clouds Mood, because it's such adeparture from it's such a different video.
(50:30):
It's crazy and I can't believe inthe same year. It's weird,
like they paid him with like Idon't know, freaking with the jewels who
rise. You know, that's probablywhy cloud the cost of Mood looks like
they give him like a twenty fivedollars Starbucks gift card, you know,
like God, But no, I'llkeep this video. I'll keep the video
video. But that's the thing, you know, because because knowing that here
(50:52):
the clouds across the moon, thisvideo actually yeah, skyrockets a little more.
But you know, overall, yeah, it's definitely a pass for me
because it's good and I enjoy videoslike that where there's a narrative and they
stick to it and they there's it'ssmart. I like the camera work.
It is pretty fun, you know. I like, like you said,
with they love loves and they getcloser and then as the music's going along.
(51:12):
But it's enjoyable. I think thebands playing what is that called where
I always forget what it's called whenthe music in a film is actually happening
in the film. There's like aterm for not didactic. I forgot what
it's called. But I like thatthat they're playing they're the band in the
and then they're also the heist. It's it's kind of cool. I like
how it's not like a soundtrack,it's actually yeah yeah, and they're not
(51:35):
they're not the band. And thenthere's like a cool like pink panther thief
walking around stealing it while they're playing. You know, there it's there,
it's them, which is I thought, I thought that was really cool idea.
I thought that was really really cool. All right, Paul, what
do you think? The video wasamazing? It was very fun. I
liked all the funness of it.The band looked great, they looked amazing.
And it was a great promotion forthe image of the band. Uh
(51:59):
and I did it enjoy the thematicmovie Kitchy Fun Pink Panther heist thing.
The song I don't. I don'treally like at all. I mean it's
cool, but I know so manymore great things from like moles Awesome.
I'll just listen to it over andover. But that switch on switch Off
(52:20):
is like one of my least favoritetracks. And no girls amazing. That's
that's a hit right there. Okay, look, it's a time capsule.
It's it's a moment in time.Hey, let's make a Heigt video and
promote the band in a certain kindof light. And for that it worked.
I'm keeping the video for nostalgic purposes. But do I actually like the
song? No, I don't.So it's a Keith for Paul. So
(52:40):
it's three keeps for you guys, and ask for me. I am actually
going back to this video. Ihate this video. I love song though
weird reverse right yeah, But tome, it's like I love this song
because this is actually, believe itor not, this is the first B
move song I've ever heard in mylife. I was actually a kid when
this song came out and actually heardit on the radio, so it stuck
(53:01):
to me. And then when Ryanbought the Forever Running album, I didn't
know that was by me. Thatsong was by b Movie, So I'm
like and then actually like the actualimpact of that song sullied when I saw
the music video. I'm like, this is a really bad music video.
You know. It's like, Imean, I know, it's just a
they're just young twenty somethings enjoying life, and they're just doing what they were
(53:23):
told by John Scarlett Davis here. You know, he was just telling them
a couple of months ago. Iwas just titling some robot to dance and
you guys, you guys can justlike perform or whatever, and we're gonna
steal some jewels. But no,it's just like I wish I'd never seen
this video, so my actual feedingfor this song would have been just somewhat
(53:44):
pristine. Actually took away some.It took away how much I liked the
song by music video, But thatargyle sweater is amazing. I want so
bad that our guy Swetter is akiss to the heavens, so I have
to I think you can be trackeddown. I'm gonna find it. I
have to throw the video back.I love the song though, like it's
something about there's a guitar technique andyou guys are more of the guitar things
(54:06):
than I am, but like there'sa guitar technique that they use in the
song. Like what do you callthat technique? Like a pituator, a
pigeo. It's an our artstock guitar. I don't know. I just remember
hearing that, like as I'm gettingready to school and the radio stuck with
it. It stuck with me.It is a cool lick. It's a
cool yeah. You know. Ilove this song. Hate the music,
especially if they blew up a beautifulRolls Royce and they're so happy about it,
(54:30):
even if it's not really their money, because the studio is money.
They're not doing it for. Yeah, the destruction. Yeah, that's part
of my sy records fire, Likewe fucking blew up a goddamn Rolls Royce
for you guys, and you onlysold us like forty five records or something.
Come on, and Ryan had tofind one in a thrift story.
Serious. I think they blew itup to impress the girl, ye to
(54:51):
get back to get back in theman. So yeah traded apparently in the
music video band I Fucking Love soWe I had to feed the bog Hound
Boghounds eat the rose Verses. Ikind of feel bad for them because career
trajectory they try, you know, like three times just they're better off like
(55:13):
today where they're just producing their ownmusic and they're free, they're not really
tied to they this song now,I haven't seen it, but they do
a lot of the you know, deserve the classic hits and dead good tapes,
and they're you know, newer materialas well. Ran have you heard
the ballad version of Institution Walls? It is out there on YouTube. He
(55:35):
just performed it a week ago,a ballad ballad version of Institution Walls.
It was a keyboard and him singing. It's not very good because we're so
used to how Institution Walls is.But personally I love that song. You
know, we make fun of it, ye delivery, but it's the way
