This episode I was joined by an inspirational young lad by the name of Charlie Frost and he’s an ambassador for the Multi Schools Council but also a brilliant artist.

Charlie spoke to me about his Tourette’s diagnosis and how there needs to be more awareness and acceptance.

As we were talking about the importance of awareness month, it was brilliant as both Tourette’s and Mental Health month both coincided with each other.

Charlie spoke about his Autism and his message is that “he embraces being different because it makes him who he is”

Charlie spoke to me about some of his brilliant hobbies and interests such as how he got into drawing as a way to help him regulate and keep him calm.

Charlie spoke about his Pokémon interests and although I knew nothing about Pokémon i was glad he felt comfortable talking about this with me.

Charlie spoke to me about being the leader of the ADHD group for the MSC and this is something he is looking forward to doing.

A bit soon I will be releasing a separate clip of what Charlie said which I think is important for you all to hear.

This is a great listen and I enjoyed recording the episode with a great young lad.

Speaker 1 (00:14):
Hello, everyone, welcome to a brand new episode of the podcast.
Today I have the pleasure of introducing Charlie. We're going
to be talking about a range of topics such as
Tourette's ADHD, mental health and autism and his brilliant work
with the multi schools Cancel and some of his drawings
as well. So Charlie, welcome to the show. How are

(00:37):
you doing? Fantastic? So, Charlie, I I just wanted to
ask you this really because I've noticed the little teddy
you've got next to you. So what are some of
your hobbies and interests?

Speaker 2 (01:08):
The one I hear, yeah, I love drawing, playing with
power Orange toys, and Pokemon Go and Go is number one.
The play with my best friend. She also knows everything
about Pokemon, got the Master of Pokemon.

Speaker 3 (01:27):
He found me.

Speaker 2 (01:27):
Also play with me and they're already good at the
game and they always help me when I'm needing.

Speaker 1 (01:33):
Oh wow, that's absolutely brilliant, Charlie. And just to just
to expand a little bit on that as well, with
the hobbies and interests and so how long have you
had like so how long have you been into Pokemon?
It's it's really interesting to know that four years four years? Wow?

Speaker 2 (01:58):
What okay?

Speaker 1 (02:06):
Oh brilliant? Could you just tell everyone the teddy you
have next to you.

Speaker 3 (02:12):
This is knuckles.

Speaker 1 (02:13):
Knuckles. What a name. That's a brilliant name. So I
guess this, I guess this is the next question I'm
going to ask you, Charlie, is we're going to talk
a little bit about Tourette's now, which is something that
you have. So how does tarrette impact your daily life?

Speaker 2 (02:38):
Sometimes my tics are bad, they can have my body
and is just normally one I feel really anxious and worried.
Sometimes my aunt was bad as much, I don't notice
them as much.

Speaker 1 (02:56):
Okay. So that's that's good explanation, Charlie. And it gives
people an insight as to what you deal what you
deal with in regards to that, So, how does tact
impact Sorry, no, I've really asked that. Okay. So this

(03:21):
next question I'm going to ask you, Charlie. So in
regards to you know, we're gonna talk a little bit
about mental health now. So in regards to that, you've
got anxiety disorder, and and I just want to I
just want to ask, like, ask really because I've obviously
I've had anxiety myself and you know, I know that

(03:44):
I know some of the stuff that that you can
go through with that. So with with the anxiety disorder,
how does that impact you, Charlie.

Speaker 3 (04:05):
Mhm.

Speaker 2 (04:06):
I do something that I like that is relaxing and
coming also makes me also I like to draw stain
in my dark dinners the lights on.

Speaker 1 (04:17):
Oh nice, And speaking of you know, sort of like
sensory seeking comfort. We're going to talk talk a little
bit about autism because that's one of the one of
the topics that that is important. Obviously we're currently in
Aprils Autism Awareness months. So Charlie, do you know roughly

(04:38):
what age you would diegnosed with that? Seven oh seven
years old? That's quite quite recent then, quite recent. Yeah,
I think I got mine when I was like two
and a half years old, so quite quite a long time.
So Charlie, what would be your mess then that you'd

(05:02):
want people to understand about disability?

Speaker 2 (05:10):
I was like, people would always be kind to remember
you cannot always see if someone has a disability diverse also,
I think disabilities and diverse to be spoken about home with.

Speaker 1 (05:25):
Families absolutely spot on and yeah, yeah, it's it's something
that does need to be spoken about more, not not
just like schools and stuff, but everywhere. Really, I think
the more people that know, the better it builds, how
much it builds more of an understanding in regards to

(05:47):
you know, autism. So I guess I'm gonna ask this, Charlie,
what is it you like about being different? Because being
different is just awesome?

Speaker 2 (05:55):
Right? I like being different because it makes me seat.
I love my circle special interests and I spent I
spend and I spend time researching them.

Speaker 1 (06:09):
Oh it's good. And I noticed I know this as well.
Obviously you spend quite a lot of time, you know,
really taking really taking quite the impact on the special
interests and having the knowledge about them. I thin that's
the thing with autism, that is that when you have
a special interest, you research it religiously, you proper delve

(06:33):
yourself into it. And for me, it's like football. I
know loads of things about football. I'd know start from
like thirty forty years ago or something, and I wasn't
even born then. So it's it's the it's the quirks
that make us who we are. It's definitely the uniqueness. So, Charlie,

(06:59):
I noticed you do a bit of drawing as well.
I've seen some of your drawings and they've been absolutely brilliant.
But what's the what's the favorite thing that you've so far?

Speaker 2 (07:13):
Their favorite sketch is Miles Morales because it is a
really cool picture. I followed a tutorial and I was
really happy with how it came out the first time.

Speaker 1 (07:24):
Oh wonderful. And have you watched any of the spider
Have you watched any of the Spider Man films? You're
a big Spider Man fan.

Speaker 2 (07:35):
Spider Man and one, two, and three?

Speaker 1 (07:38):
Oh wow, awesome.

Speaker 2 (07:44):
Spider Man three was my favorite one.

Speaker 1 (07:46):
Oh nice, nice, Yeah, that was a really good one. Yeah,
I did quite like I quite like the Miles Morales
film personally, and I hope they I don't know if
they are going to do another one, but if they do,
then I'm sure it would be absolutely incredible. And yeah,
I like Spider Man Free but as well personally as

(08:07):
one of my favorites. You know, I did, I did like,
I did like Far from Home and obviously some of
the recent Spider Man films. Yeah, that Spider Man's had
the absolute pinnacle of the superheroes. So just carrying on
on to the drawing topic, really so what is what

(08:31):
inspired you to start drawing, Because I know you've drawn
Pokemon characters before.

Speaker 2 (08:40):
Drawing has always made me feel happy. I was really young,
I wasn't very good. I couldn't even draw a sick man.
Then I started to learn how to draw number of
blocks and alp for blocks, and started to learn how
to draw out and spend more time practicing my drawings,
always around my special interests.

Speaker 3 (08:59):
I wow.

Speaker 1 (09:00):
Okay, And so there's been a lot of like awareness
months for important topics like mental health autism. Tourettes, why
do you think it's important to continue the conversation around this?

Speaker 2 (09:17):
It is important, of course, we need to keep raising
awareness about different disabilities and how people may have the
same disability but are not necessarily they are all unique
and different.

Speaker 1 (09:36):
Yeah, so I guess, Charlie. Another question that I do
want to sort of ask you just really quickly, do
you know what month Tourett's month is?

Speaker 3 (09:50):
May?

Speaker 1 (09:51):
Oh?

Speaker 3 (09:51):
Wow?

Speaker 1 (09:53):
Coincides with Mental health Month, which is absolutely brilliant. So
I'm sure I'll we seeing on the scrampage that you're
doing a lot to raise raise acceptance and awareness around
it because it's important that we continue to talk about
those topics and different disabilities, neurodiversity. It's so important. So Charlie,

(10:20):
what is autism to you?

Speaker 2 (10:24):
Autism to me? Everyone who has autism is different. And
even though somethings can be the same, we have a
lot of different things that can make us happy and sad.
The same thing to make me happy may not make
another autistic person.

Speaker 1 (10:44):
Happy exactly exactly. We all have we are things that
make us, make us feel safe, make us feel secure,
and they make us feel you know, at peace within
us elves, which is absolutely important. So so I just

(11:04):
want to say, Charlie, you've been absolutely brilliant on the
podcast Stave. You know, we've come across really well and
and most importantly, most importantly keep going because you're doing
really well. And you should be absolutely proud of proud
of yourself for the awareness and acceptance that you're doing

(11:24):
around in different conditions. So you should be really proudly self.

Speaker 3 (11:29):
Made proud of you. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (11:41):
Oh good lad. So Charlie, just a quick one, what
would be your message to someone out there that that
is feeling that is feeling sad or or not happy
within themselves.

Speaker 3 (12:02):
We're just trying to someone who is maybe feeling very happy,
and what could they do to help them.

Speaker 2 (12:08):
Do something that they like.

Speaker 1 (12:12):
That's brilliant.

Speaker 2 (12:14):
I've got sometimes like when I fill up that sometimes
something that I like and it helps.

Speaker 1 (12:20):
Brilliant Charlie. Absolutely, that's an important message to bring out
as well. And anyways, just want to say, yeah.

Speaker 3 (12:29):
You can do that. B this part by the multi
school content.

Speaker 1 (12:36):
Yeah, go on, yeah, go on, it would be good
to I'd good to speak a little bit about that.

Speaker 3 (12:43):
Sorry, we just got a technical error, and so this
was just about the multi school council and what inspired
you to get involved, wasn't it. Yeah, I'm almost told
about their multi school council and I had been involved
into action video to awareness and I was told I
thought I'd love to be involved because I'd like to

(13:06):
help raise awareness and help other people.

Speaker 1 (13:10):
Oh that's brilliant, Charlie.

Speaker 2 (13:12):
Be a good team leader like you and Mason. I
hope I can help raise awareness for a help my
team with anything they need.

Speaker 1 (13:22):
Absolutely, you'll be a brilliant team leader, Charlie. You'll you'll
excel at it. And yeah, trying with this to be
a good team leader for the mental health group. But yeah,
it's great that you're becoming that you've become a leader
for the ADHD group that I really benefit from your
insight and your ideas. Yeah, anyways, Charlie, thank you for

(13:48):
coming on to the podcast. You've been brilliant and I
just want to say thank you all for listening to
the podcast and any final words, Charlie, thank you. Okay,
no worries, an't. I'm going to stop re
