12 Marzo 1922, Lowell in Massachussets - nasce Jean-Louis Lebris de Kerouac, più comunemente noto come Jack Kerouac, fra i più significativi scrittori statunitensi del XX secolo. Insieme al poeta Allen Ginsberg e all’autore William Burroughs fonda il movimento letterario dei Beat, meglio conosciuto come Beat Generation. Sempre in cerca di una risposta all’esistenza, tormentato dal senso di vuoto e dal bisogno di libertà dalla “buona” società borghese, viaggerà per le Americhe in compagnia di Neal Cassady, personalità chiave che figurerà come Dean Moriarty nel romanzo che rese celebre Kerouac e la Beat Generation: On the road. I suoi libri si distinguono per il nuovo stile letterario che Kerouac stesso definisce jazz, un suggestivo connubio di prosa e poesia; una scrittura autentica, immediata e sincera, capace di attingere alla vita e farne metafora ricca di sentimento e spiritualità.
