Speaker 1 (00:09):
Nail couldn't word what your back and doors.

Speaker 2 (01:21):
Hey ell and welcome to the Treasure Votex podcast with
Gypsy Jewels from YouTube's zero Discrimination, as well as her
website gypsydigs dot com and visit the history channels beyond
Oak Island and myself Amanda diggerd Guys. Happy Saint Patrick's
Day first and foremost so uh happy say Patrick stage Gypsy.

Speaker 3 (01:48):
Thank you Happy St. Patty's Day. Hopefully you didn't get
pinched by anyone today.

Speaker 2 (01:55):
I have not yet, but the day is still young.

Speaker 3 (02:00):
I don't know if anybody does that anymore, but you know,
I remember in school it was a big deal. And
then there was always you know, the where you're Lucky
Green and the clovers and luppy Lucky Leprechaun, and then
you got the Leprechaun and the rainbow pointing to you know,
the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.

(02:21):
And I didn't see any rainbows this weekend. It was
very windy. March came in kind of like a lion,
and it's kind of kept to be an aeon this
March almost got blown away then making fast felt like
I heard.

Speaker 2 (02:39):
I mean, obviously a lot of what The central to
southwest got hit pretty hard.

Speaker 3 (02:49):
Yeah. In fact, so some of the people that came
in that first night that will be that I know
from the the Missouri hunt that I'm going to be
going to soon. They had come in and there were storms,
you know, all through Missouri and Oklahoma and all of

(03:12):
that area, and wildfire's going on. I'll come to crazy weather.
And I was talking to one of my friends and
he said that they saw that a family member because
they from Missouri, they had just gotten into Arkansas and
was straight in line for a tornado and so they
called them and at that moment they woke them up,

(03:37):
they got warned them about the tornado. They didn't even
know the tornado was coming, and they got in their
tub with their animal, and it saved their life. Literally
saved their life because their whole house was destroyed, but
they lived because they were in the backup. Can you
believe it? That is just insane. So they were lucky

(04:01):
in a way. I know that was before Saint Patti's Day,
but they were lucky that they, you know, had their lives.
I know they weren't lucky, and you know, they lost
their home, but oh my goodness, I can't even imagine.

Speaker 2 (04:15):
Yeah, that's crazy, that's crazy. And here here, I mean,
we finally got warmer weather. The last patch of snow
is gone, which is very yep. I haven't really tried
to see if I could get my shovel in yet.
I was surveying talking with property owners, reconfirming promissions for

(04:40):
this year, and uh, pretty excited. I can't wait.

Speaker 3 (04:48):
And I'll be seeing you before too long.

Speaker 2 (04:50):
I know, yeah, about a month, three weeks.

Speaker 3 (04:54):
Oh my goodness. Woh, I can't wait. I cannot wait.
And I'm going to bring some warmer weather with me too,
yes please, and the wind please, the wind can stay away. Yes,
it's done.

Speaker 2 (05:12):
So I did. See. So I went to my first
pop up museum.

Speaker 3 (05:20):
Wow, tell me about that.

Speaker 2 (05:22):
So the Historic Society of Wells and Algunquit, Maine had
their first pop up museum and it was at their
like historic society. And what they did is they set
up tables and stuff. And I'd gotten invited to be
able to set up a table myself, but I just
I have too had too many things going on this weekend.

(05:43):
But I was able to stop in for about an
hour right before it got done, and it was so neat.
There was one gentleman who had like miniature like homes
and model trains and stuff. There was a world fair
table like with all the collectibles from all the different

(06:06):
world fairs.

Speaker 3 (06:07):
Oh, man, I love that. That is so cool because
I know that I don't know about you, but I'm
sure so many detectorists and and and dump diggers a
lot and collectors of things have collected stuff from those
worlds trade, you know, world fairs, and I know I've

(06:28):
found some world fare stuff. I always thought they were
so cool.

Speaker 2 (06:31):
Yes exactly. I was like, oh, that's actually a really
neat idea, because yeah, I think I think a lot
of us do come across, you know, whether it's the
souvenir pins or the spoons or the key fobs. Trying
to think away where I've seen or found, but it's
just so cool.

Speaker 3 (06:51):
I found like a key or watch bomb.

Speaker 2 (06:54):
Yeah, yeah, that's cool. And then there was a table
with all the different like rocks like amethysts and stuff
like that that can be found in main. And then
there was I'm not sure what one was. I think
it was like bag designs, I'm not really sure. And
then like Roman outfits and swords and all that type

(07:19):
of stuff and then want to go to England. Yes, yes, and.

Speaker 3 (07:24):
Stuff like that.

Speaker 2 (07:25):
It would make me absolutely absolutely. Justin Pattel was there
with his he's a bottle he's a scuba diver and
bottle digger, and he had a table set up with bottles.
And then another Justin was there and he had a
table set up with marbles and he had two sulfid
marbles Gypsy, you know the ones with the like the thing.

Speaker 1 (07:51):
Ye.

Speaker 2 (07:52):
And then there was a new to detecting lady that
had you know, she had found metal detecting and dump
dinking dump dump digging for her first time last year
and she just got to detector and I was like, hey,
I'm always looking for someone to go out and dig with,

(08:13):
so might have made a buddy.

Speaker 3 (08:19):
Well, I hope, I hope so. And that's that's amazing.
And it's neat that she's showing her and sharing her
fines as well.

Speaker 2 (08:28):
It's nice to see. It's nice to see not not
knocking anything, but it's nice to see like a revitalization
of like the historic committees. So like that's interesting to me,
like that you're you know, you're putting it out on
social media you're getting people in, you're getting people involved,
and yeah, that's that's awesome to me. So I thought

(08:52):
it was pretty cool, pretty cool, but I know, super cool.
We're somewhere that was supposed to be a pretty fun
weekend you want to tell us about.

Speaker 3 (09:03):
Yeah, So I went to the Arkansas ozark Silver Horde
and it was so much fun. I got to catch
up with, you know, some of my favorite friends. You know.
I got to see Merle from Brooklyn or give me
from Brooklyn, Yeah, New York. He was there, and I

(09:27):
got to see him and one of my favorites, which
is Keith Jones from History Seekers, and my buddy Ray
Jones from Florida, and another friend from Florida, John's, and
I had met them originally, I think when I was

(09:50):
at a Florida hunt. And it's just amazing, you know,
getting to these hunts and seeing friends which you know,
you only get to see a couple times a year
at some of these hunts, and we've all become, you know,
family in a sense. And like Ray from Florida, he's
purchased like for my paintings, so he's already anxious to

(10:15):
get his painting. I said when I didn't know he
was coming to the hunt. I saw him and I said,
if I would have known, I would have brought brought
to you your painting. And he's like, no, you can
just ship it up for it to be too hard
to try to travel back with. So that that was
really amazing, and so we had a fantastic time hanging

(10:37):
with them, and then we met some new lots of
new people too, and new people to the hobby too
that got to know that hopefully we'll be at the
Missouri Hunt. Then I get to see again there and
it's always neat to see people new in the hobby
and what they're how you know, what they're finding, what

(10:57):
their detectors are using, and and and it's just wow.
And then you know how you meet those people and
they're like, oh, you should come here and not you know.

Speaker 2 (11:14):
So I heard there was a big foot was bigfoot.

Speaker 3 (11:18):
There, So yeah, that's part of the Ozark logo. They
have like a big foot on their logo. It's really
cute for the Ozark. I think they've actually got a
club there, the Ozart Club, which is I think a
local metal detecting club in that area. So I also

(11:41):
met a local metal detecting dealer that I talked to
that you know, he doesn't have a storefront, but you know,
sales basically from his home and et cetera. And we
talked and it's just I just love going to these
things because it's it's it's about you know, the people

(12:02):
are the real treasures. And you know, with that said,
we'll go into I'm uh, I am. I've already seen
you know, mixed reviews on the hunt, and all I
will say on that is is you get that almost

(12:24):
and I know you can attest to this that every
hunt we've almost ever been to, uh, at one point
there's going to be somebody that you can't please everybody. Yea.
And things had gotten a little off schedule, and I'm
not sure why. Maybe there was a really good reason,
uh because emergencies happen and stuff, and uh of course

(12:48):
that upset people and and people left early. But you know,
all in all, there there were lots of amazing prizes,
time of feel were given away and then sometimes you
do you're coiled, just got to go over the silver,
you know too, or good tokens and stuff. So Garrett,

(13:12):
we gave away two board texes and pinpointers and edge
diggers and shovels and and hats and yes, all kinds
of stuff and so some everybody should have walked away

(13:33):
with something from from somebody because you know also Debby
from mine Lad was there and they were doing the
Masters of Metal and they were doing the gold panting
stuff and so you know everybody, you know, she gives
away tons of stuff and she sponsored like I think,
the Night Hunt and so just so much for people

(13:57):
to do, and so we can get those complainers, which
should happens. You know, you know that you can't please everybody,
and you know I understand because I've done my own
hunts and things can go wrong and things can you know,

(14:19):
but you know, you get in there, you do your
best and you try, you try your best to you know,
main thing is you want everybody to have fun. Everybody
to have fun, and uh not everybody's going to make
their money initial money back, especially on those paid hunts
like that.

Speaker 2 (14:39):
If you're like booking a trip like that to like
make money off it, I mean, good.

Speaker 3 (14:47):
Luck, yeah, or at least make your money back. Yeah,
good luck, because especially if you're having to drive a
distance or fly number one that's already costing you and
then to get in the hunt whatever that cost is.
So uh, if you're doing uh, if you're doing a hunt,
just you know, go in with no expectations, no expectations

(15:14):
except for you're there to have fun, enjoy the hobby
and enjoy meeting like minded people that enjoy the hobby
and enjoy you know, what they do. And I think
of it is like a vacation. That's what I think
about it as it's a fun, fun time to get
together with like minded friends. And I always have a

(15:35):
great time at those hunts.

Speaker 2 (15:37):
And regardless the hunts they do, they get expensive. They
are between they do they are getting in because it
costs money to all that stuff. It does. It gets
very expensive, it does. I forget which one we spent,

(15:57):
but it was a lot of money. And uh, how
well most of them have been. And again we kind
of book our vacations around it to kind of all right,
what else can we incorporate into this? You know, are
there people we know in the area we can go
hang with, go dig other stuff. Like we have other
hobbies that we enjoy, you know, going to go do

(16:18):
as well. So I'll always do searches around the area.
For stuff like that. But yeah, you know, I don't know.
And of course there's so many of them, there's so
many events.

Speaker 3 (16:29):
They're all over, they're all over, and you know, here's
the thing, the stuff that's planted and put in the ground.
There are some people that just go to these seated
hunts and they want to make their money back and
possibly win a detector that they can sell or trade
in their own one tell or other, get an extra backup,

(16:50):
et cetera, et cetera. And there are some people that
are those ones that are out there and they're swinging
so fast and I don't know, they wind up with
twenty or thirty silver were more and five tokens and
that's what they do. They go to these all and
they've been doing it for like fifteen years too, that
they love more of a competition hunt is what they

(17:13):
call them. And there's some people that and they're good
at it, they're really good. They got a fast retrieval.
And then there's people. I went out and helped one
lady out and field like her first several times she
got out there and she only found like one silver dime,
you know, and no tokens, And so I told her

(17:37):
on your next one hunt, I'll go out there with
you and I'll help you, and I'll showed her some
tricks on retrieval. Number one, she had the knockoff carrot
and you know that you can get for nineteen dollars
pen pointer or whatever. And so I was like, you
got to get you a penpointer that's worth it, or

(17:57):
you're just you're killing so much of your time. Your
retrieval time is important in a in a hunt like that,
And I mean I went for like what fifteen years
without using a pinpointer. It can be done. You just
have to get proficient at that as well. And you
have to be good at pinpointing, and you have to
be good at you know all there's so much and

(18:18):
that takes time and practice, but you know there's there's
just going to be people that are going to be
able to out hunt you if you haven't been in
the hobby longing and and so you can't go expecting
the moon. I mean, you might get lucky, you might
find a token where you might.

Speaker 2 (18:41):
Exist.

Speaker 3 (18:42):
Yeah, it does exist. We've seen it time and time again.
And so yeah, there's my Those were my two cents
three cents.

Speaker 2 (18:58):
Well it sounds like that was a kind of what
I mean, all all the stuff I've seen on it,
it looked like it was a good time. It was
a great Did you did you participate in a night hunt?

Speaker 3 (19:10):
Right? Yeah, there was a night hunt. I didn't do
the night and hunt. We had been kind of standing
all day helping people and uh we uh. I was
helping marine at the Garrett booths and so you know,
I was doing some autographs and photos and you know,

(19:30):
just meeting people and the wind was about to blow
us away half the time, and it was cold because
of the wind. It was great weather, it just got
cold because of the wind. But so we did a
test garden and so I was showing my my own

(19:51):
thing is I wanted to show people all the nice
features about the because I'm learning my machine more and more,
you know, the Vortex, and so that's what I had
loads of people coming over there and testing out at Vortex,
and I would show them. I would go run through
all of the features. And I'm getting to know the

(20:13):
machine so well now and all the little nuances and
all the little nice fancy bells and whistles. So I'm
really really even more impressed now with the machine. Than ever,
So I can't wait to just keep getting it out
there in the field. I did hunt for just a

(20:33):
short while. James the hunt Monster came and brought me
a little tag and let me hunt for a while,
but I was only out there for a while. I
got some silver dimes, and then I just don't feel
right if I'm not you know, I know I'm helping
at the hunt, but I'm not a paid participant, so
I wouldn't ever feel right going out there and getting
tokens or getting a bunch of silver. It's just not me.

(20:56):
I'm not that kind of person. So I a few
little silver dined and then I just kind of walked
around and talked to people, and then we went off
the field. It was fun now to just swing for a.

Speaker 2 (21:08):
Few minutes, and it sounds like you got to help
out people, so that's always fun.

Speaker 3 (21:14):
Yeah, and man, it's I love hearing the stories. Oh
my goodness, I saw so many fines from all over.
You know, people always show us how it is. Oh,
you all believe what a fan last blah blah blah
blah blah. You know, and then you meet fans of
the treasure. You know, the vortex, the Treasure Vortex our podcast.

(21:38):
You know, people that listen and all that, so it's
always it's always wonderful, it's awesome, always fun, awesome.

Speaker 2 (21:48):
Well, I know you are on your drive home from Ozarks.

Speaker 3 (21:55):
Yes, right now, I'm actually I am parked. I had
to take a picture and send it to you. But
I am at the Garrett Metal Detector's headquarters here where
they manufacture the metal detectors. So I just dropped Maureen
off and then she just left and I helped her

(22:17):
unload some of the stuff that we had brought and
tables and extra stuff and anyway, very neat. So I
decided to stay here because I can't drive to Dallas
and do the podcast. And I know we're getting close
to time.

Speaker 2 (22:34):
So yeah, your signal does not make it for some
reason through there, and plus it's probably.

Speaker 3 (22:42):
And yeah, at this time of the day, everybody's getting
off work and so it's crazy traffic and it's you
had you need both hands on the wheel and all
eyes on the road, so you know what I mean,
all attention on the road.

Speaker 2 (22:59):
So we'll called tonight a short one so you can
get moving moves in on home.

Speaker 3 (23:06):
It's been great catching up with you, and I'm glad
you're getting better weather. And I love that museum thing.
I want to hear more about that too, and very cool.
And I guess I will see you maybe next Monday,
or from you next month.

Speaker 2 (23:24):
We'll next Monday. Great, everybody, have a wonderful Saint Patrick's
Day and a very good week, and we'll catch you
next week on the treasure for.

Speaker 3 (23:36):
You have the luck of the Irish out there with
you when you're out there treasure hunting, search for that
pot of gold. Yeah, all right, good luck, good night everyone,
Bye bye, good night.
