Fan films are an integral part of Star Trek history, with lovers of the franchise creating homemade versions of the show as far back as when the original series first hit the airwaves. Nearly six decades later, the tradition continues, but now with higher budgets and more impressive effects.
“Farragut Forward” is the latest entry in the ongoing saga of the Farragut crew, a fan-made homage to Trek with nearly two decades of stories produced on film. Their newest feature debuted on October 1, 2024, combining practical effects with modern CGI and classic Trek storytelling to make a compelling movie.
Trek Untold chatted with producer and star John Broughton, director Johnny Karzai, and performers (and “Farpoint Toys” store and museum owners) Penelope and Justin about the making of “Farragut Forward” and why this fan film is worth checking out.
