fifteen minutes late.
Speaker 4 (01:56):

coasters where I'm like really really energized, and then all
of a sudden, I'm like at my desk falling asleep.
Speaker 1 (02:04):
So I get these roller coasters where I eat some
crappy food beforehand and then afterwards. Fair. That's fair.
Speaker 4 (02:10):
I'm it, look at it. It's the evening. I'm trying
to stay awake after a long day of work, a
long week of work, a long week of being alive.
We're not going to talk about that right now, though,
because we're here to talk about the Buffalo, the Buffalo Bules.
Speaker 1 (02:25):
Yeah, so let's talk about the red, white and blue
that brings smiles to faces right now.
Speaker 4 (02:29):
Buffalo completes the season sweep at the Miami Dolphins with
a thirty thirty, almost said, thirteen thirty to twenty seven victory.
Buffalo moves to seven and two in the season and
four to oho at home. Buffalo has won thirteen to
fourteen against Miami, the last thirteen to fourteen against Miami,
and John head coach Sean McDermott becomes a thirteenth coach
in NFL history to win eighty plus games in his
first eight seasons as a head coach. To jump into it,

Speaker 1 (03:27):
With musician comes have it. Man Adhd will do that
to you.
Speaker 4 (03:30):
Wrapping up the augus here, John quarterback Josh Allen twenty
five to thirty nine, two and thirty five passing yards
with three touches, one pick, two rushes for seven yards.
Before we jump into it, what were your thoughts on
Josh Allen's performance on Sunday.
Speaker 1 (03:45):
Did what he needed to do again, I wasn't really
concerned about the interception. Similar to the week before, he
did what he needed to do, and he's putting the
ball in play, he's making moves where he needs to.
I mean, pretty status quo. Honestly, I would she could
offer meteor insight than that. But he did the job.
He came to work and did his job and did
(04:06):
what he needed to do, so you know, not to
you know, kind of go ahead to the notes that
I'm seeing here, But it was pretty much status quo,
business as usual, whatever terminology you want to use to
say that, Like, he didn't do anything. He didn't do
anything great, but he didn't do anything poor either.
Speaker 4 (04:27):
He was just he did it exactly what he did.
Speaker 1 (04:28):
They want in the game exactly.
Speaker 4 (04:30):
I would agree with that. The learning, the learning moment
for kan Coma on that interception was just that the
ball was where it needed to be. Kean Coleman popped
it up and Jalen Ramsey doesn't miss I mean, let's
be honest, it's very where he misses. Excuse me, So
two interceptions is here for Josh Allen. Everybody wants to
hit that turnover number, Josh a turnover.
Speaker 1 (04:51):
Yeah, that's just but that's just people there. They those
are the trolls that just look for things to look
for things like if he would tell me.
Speaker 4 (05:00):
Josh Allen's a turnover merchant and then I show you
the two interceptions he's thrown this year.
Speaker 1 (05:05):
I mean, if you want to go overall, sure you
can say he's had some key issues with turnovers, but
if you look at his season this year, it's very
clear he did something between last year and this year
to work on him. To again, two interceptions heading into
week ten, you know, that's not really uh that that's
that's far better than he's historically been. So instead of
(05:27):
going back to, oh, here we go, he's doing this again,
like maybe applaud the fact that his first interception didn't
come until last week and his second inception didn't come
until the week after that. You know, like start focusing
on some of the positive things here and don't get
too freaking over critical about like a rando thing that
(05:48):
you know, for for that again learning moment for Keon Coleman.
You know Alan put Alan did the right thing. It
just was something to happen. It wasn't his fault. He
put the ball where he needed to be. Keon Coleman
just put it in a right probably comes with experience.
Speaker 4 (06:02):
He put that ball in a really good spot where
only Kean Coleman could have got it. But also you
know it popped up and it happens.
Speaker 1 (06:09):
It happens in football. Yeah, it could be it all
the time. I mean, you know, here's here's something Aaron
Rodgers has thrown, you know, quite a few interceptions, but
there's been a few of them that have been you know,
between the numbers and it would pop out and got
an interception. Like those things happen in football now as
time is going on. I've seen that happen a couple
of times this year. But it's happened to Burrow, it
(06:29):
happens to mahomes HAPs to everybody.
Speaker 4 (06:32):
As time has gone on. I've also noticed too that
it's very subjective, Like it's very easy to look at
the numbers and go, oh wow, he's thrown a lot
of interceptions blah blah blah, and you're like, eh, you look.
Speaker 1 (06:41):
At it and you go, yeah, but arm punt exactly exactly,
you know, hit between the numbers, did what you You know,
it's all very subjective. It just really depends on you know,
who you are and what type of football fan you are.
Speaker 4 (06:58):
So looking at the stats here, Josh Allen passes Joe
Ferguson for second all time in franchise history after recording
as one hundred and eighty second touchdown pass on Sunday.
Josh Allen finishes Sunday with one hundred and eighty four
career touchdown passes, trailing Jim Kelly by fifty three touchdown passes.
Zulds the franchise record with two hundred and thirty seven
passing touchdowns. Sunday was Josh Allen's seventieth win. He has
(07:18):
seven wins away from tying Joe Ferguson for the second
most wins all time in franchise history. Joe Ferguson was
seventy seven and eighty six. Also, Chris Downey, our unpaid
intern pass this along at aj Feldman TV points out
daylight savings time ended ends on Sunday, so it ended
last Sunday. The last three Bills games on the day
when daylight saving times ends. Twenty twenty three or twenty
(07:41):
twenty one was a nine to six Bills lost to Jacksonville.
Twenty twenty two was a twenty to seventeen Bills lost
to the Jets. Twenty twenty three was a twenty four
to eighteen loss to the Bengals. Josh Allen threw one
touchdown in five interceptions in those three games. So again,
but great that Josh Allen turned things around on Sunday.
Speaker 1 (07:58):
Staff for everything. I mean they said it, there's a
stat for everything.
Speaker 4 (08:01):
Well, there is a stat for everything. But we didn't
even realize, friend, brother.
Speaker 1 (08:04):
I didn't even really think to, you know, kind of
correlate the daylight saving time shift to how one plays football.
But that's actually my favorite, very good stat that's actually
something that could be researched.
Speaker 4 (08:19):
I think my favorite one continues to be Kyler Murray
when Call of Duty comes out, before and after.
Speaker 1 (08:27):
I don't know that I'm familiar with that.
Speaker 4 (08:28):
His performance after Call of Duty came out for a
few years, it was really bad.
Speaker 1 (08:35):
It's staying up so late playing.
Speaker 4 (08:37):
Yeah, yeah, that was the presumption. That was the presumption
that after like it's a double XP weekend, Kyler Murray
plays like dog shit. Sorry dog crap. I know, Sorry,
that's actually very funny. John. I also have to point
out too, I need to apologize to our unpaid intern, Chris,
his his mother and father. I feel like we've got
off on the wrong foot because the first podcast that
(08:57):
they listened to in a while with Chris on it,
I'm cursing like a sailor. So mister and missus Chris's
mom and dad. So sorry, I said my best. I'm
really a nice guy. I'm sure we'll meet at some
point in time.
Speaker 1 (09:11):
Mister and missus Downey, I'm the jackwagon. It was it
was me. He was channeling his inner me.
Speaker 4 (09:16):
So John gets me going and I start to swear
a lot. You know, I can't help it.
Speaker 1 (09:20):
I'm usually usually I'm the one. I'm the one bringing
the f bombs. I'm trying to be better about that though, But.
Speaker 4 (09:25):
So running through this, running through the rest of the
stats here for the offense again, it was a boring game.
Felt like it was a boring game just doing your job.
The game really felt like a slog. That's that's a
good word I think to describe it. It was dragging along.
There was no real explosion. Miami made Buffalo play their
game and still lost, which feels really good because that's
a sign of a very good team in Buffalo. Miami
out possessed Buffalo thirty one minutes and fifty three seconds
of twenty eight minutes and zero or seven seconds. Miami
(09:49):
had one more play than Buffalo, sixty to fifty nine.
But the second half for Buffalo, this is what makes
Buffalo so hard to beat. Touch in the second half
of their drives were touchdown, touchdown, touchdown, field goal with
five seconds remaining. Buffalo outscored Miami twenty four to seventeen
in the second half at yards per pass. Pointed out
by the way the Bills end of the half and
(10:10):
game end of game clock management worked out to perfection.
Buffalo had eight drives. Miami had nine, but two of
them were end of the first half and end of
the game drives where they had to combine twelve seconds
of game time, so Miami really had seven drives. Basically,
the extra drive the Bills got by managing the clock
won them the game. Being able to manage the clock
a lot.
Speaker 1 (10:30):
This year with game management, I think originally, and this
is just Monday morning quarterback here, but I think that
they may have upped the game management clock management plan
coming into the season, believing the hype that this was
their year, that they were not going to be as competitive,
they were not going to be in the upper echelan.
(10:51):
YadA YadA YadA, And I think that they kind of
moved to that strategy because of that, and yet it's
working so well for them that they're not gonna veer
from it, and they shouldn't veer from it. There's that
was That's one big because I feel like last year
they they were very you know, high powered, very kind
(11:15):
of fast. They would put points, They could put points
on you at the drop of a dime. And now
they're taking their time and they're kind of like the
python squeezing, you know.
Speaker 4 (11:25):
And it allows that defense to rest up because again,
this Buffalo Bill's offense can go put up thirty forty
points a game. But the problem is, if you've only
got the ball for fifteen minutes, that defense is going
to get beat up and they're going to they're going
to break at some point in time. Where this this
defense is I mean, Sunday's game was not a defensive
was not a game the defense was gonna win.
Speaker 1 (11:43):
You that that if you like points, you you liked
that game.
Speaker 4 (11:47):
That appeared to be obvious early. But we've talked about
this so many times, John, there are gonna be some
weeks the defense is gonna win the games. There's gonna
be some weeks the offense when you gain wins the games,
there's gonna be some weeks where it's gonna end up
being where it's gonna end up being the kicker that
wins to the game.
Speaker 1 (12:03):
And one thing you always got a factor in two
is Miami always plays Buffalo is tough. No matter what,
they always play Buffalo tough.
Speaker 4 (12:12):
Yeah, it's I mean those it's those interdivision those interdivisional
games that are very very difficult. You can never predict
them because it's almost like the teams step up and
have a little bit more a little bit more gump shit.
I guess when it happens because it's it's more pride
or whatever. But the reason John the Bills were so
(12:32):
good and so so methodical, I should say offensively team rushing.
They had nineteen carris for ninety four yards. It's four
point nine yards per carreer. Between James Cook, Ty Johnson
and Ray Davis and Josh Allen. Nine different players recorded
at least one target on Sunday, Ray Davis two receptions
for two targets or two receptions on two targets for
seventy yards and a touchdown. A career long sixty three
(12:53):
yard touchdown reception, the longest touchdown reception by a Bills
running backs and CJ. Spilett recorded a sixty six yard
touchdown reception in Week seventeen of the twenty twelve season
on December third, twenty twelve. That does not feel that
long ago, but that's what happens when you get old.
Wide receiver Khalil Shaker six receptions on seven targets for
fifty yards. Again another you throw the ball to me,
(13:15):
catches the ball. He makes things happen. Tight end Quinton
Morris one catch on one target for two yards and
a touchdown. Josh Allen was mauled at that point. He
threw the ball directly to Quinton Morris, who was not
open at the time. See the ball, catch the ball,
get a touchdown. Absolutely incredible work from Josh Allen Quinton
Morris on that play. Wide receiver key On Coleman one
catch on two targets for twenty one yards. He recorded
(13:37):
a catch on the two point conversion in the third quarter.
Left the game with the wrist injury, which looks, excuse me,
not good. Jordan Poyer's helmet excuse me, crushed Keyan Coleman's
wrist it into his chest. I got the hiccups and
all of a sudden, I'm sorry, Sean McDermott said postgame
or this week. Really, Coleman's injury could be quote more
than just this week, but added that Coleman still has
(13:57):
a chance to play on Sundays game. He says, quote,
I'll know more or still an ongoing evaluation. Would not
be a would be a big loss for the Buffalo Bills,
but another big loss. The Bills play without Amari Cooper
on Sunday with a wrist injury. He was limited in
practice this week with a rist injury. Looks like he
might be able to play, but we'll see how that
plays out on Sunday. Also, one last thing before we
(14:18):
move on John. Last week we talked about Mac Hollins
and the Curse of Mac Hollins. Well, the Buffalo Bills
reversed the curse on Sunday. Last week. Talked about from
at yards per past the Bills are six and oh
when Hollins gets two or less targets, and oh to
two when he gets more than two targets. This week,
five catches on five targets for thirty yards and a touchdown,
so reversed that curse. But uh per at mike him
(14:40):
on Twitter became the forty fourth Bills player in Mac
Hollins became the forty fourth Bills player to catch a
one yard touchdown and only the fourth ever wide receiver
in franchise history to accomplish his feat. The last wide
receiver to record a one yard touchdown catch was Andre
Holmes versus the Jets on September tenth, twenty sixteen.
Speaker 1 (14:59):
And oh list he but he now belongs to congratulations Mac.
Speaker 4 (15:03):
One more thing, Buffalo moves to nine for nine on
fourth down conversions this season, tying the Washington Commanders for
the current NFL lead.
Speaker 1 (15:12):
Now that's insane, that's insane to me. That but that
that goes to show that how much you know to
all of those you know, anybody that may be firing
up the Josh Allen turnover machine, how how much does
Buffalo trust him? Trust him an awful lot? Yeah, you're
not kidding. And also, I really I still have a
hard time calling the Washington Commanders the Commanders to me,
(15:35):
they're still the Washington football team.
Speaker 4 (15:37):
Yeah, that's every time I see it. That's what I
think about it, I wish they would have just kept
that name. It was dumb at the time, but it's
it's really stuck. It's really endeared.
Speaker 1 (15:48):
WFT Washington football team. That's second three hockey.
Speaker 4 (15:52):
Club or second with the three big things here, They're
gonna be the Utah yettie. I love that. That's a
that's a little bit of a of a tea leaf.
I got here wrapping up the defense and special teams.
I'm gonna run down the defense quick, John, because i
want to get your thoughts on special teams, because boy, wow,
Buffalo one sack, five tackles for a lost, one pass defended,
and two quarterback hits.
Speaker 1 (16:12):
John.
Speaker 4 (16:12):
Maybe I'm just an asshole and keep your comments to yourself,
but it seems like Miami is very tactful at getting
away with holds. There were some very gaping holes for
Miami's running backs to run through, which is relatively unrealistic
and unseen for Buffalo's defense. They don't often get exposed
in the run game, but it seems like every time
against Miami they do. There were also a couple holding
(16:34):
calls against the Bills offense that were a little suspect
because there was one play where Dion Dawkins just blocked
the defensive end of the ground and they called it holding.
The play that Josh Allen had a twenty yard I
think it was a twenty yard rushing touchdown on the play,
got called for holding, got called back for holding, was
not holding. So again, not gonna wax poetic about this,
(16:56):
but just again something to keep an eye on. Buffalo.
There are plus eleven turnover differential, tie for the fourth
best and team history through nine games. Only twenty twenty
one at plus fourteen and the nineteen ninety three and
nineteen sixty five seasons at plus twelve were better. Defensive end,
Greg Russo had seven tackles for solo, one sack, three
tackles for a loss, and a quarterback kid. He's up
to four and a half sacks this season and twenty
(17:17):
one and a half sacks in his fifty five career games,
becoming the fifth fastest Bills player to reach this mark
in the last forty years. Also, quarnerback Kyer Elam had
a fumble recovery. Quarterback Taron Johnson recorded a very clean
peanut punch and Elam cleaned up the trash. It's the
first force fumble this season for Johnson and the first
career fumble recovery for Elam his first fifth career takeaway
(17:39):
including the playoffs. Although Elam did say on the during
the game his shoulder popped out and pop back in
on the sideline. He's been limited this week with the
aforementioned shoulder injury. He did start for cornerback Christian Benford,
who was out with the wrist injury, but Benford has
been a full participant in practice week, so hopefully Benford
will return be a big return for the Buffalo Bills defense. Also,
(17:59):
defense and Duyne Smoot left the game of the wrist
injury did not return. He did undergo surgery placed on
the IR. It's possible that he can return at the
end of the season or the beginning of the playoffs,
but Sean McDermott says they will need to learn what
doctors discover about the severity of the injury during surgery. Also,
defensive tackle Casey Two, who left the game with the
knee injury, did return and was a full participant in
(18:20):
practice this week. Now, john the man of the hour,
the reason we're here talking a Buffalo Bills win this week.
Speaker 1 (18:27):
Absolutely absolutely, because if it went the other way, we
would be talking I think differently about him. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (18:32):
Kicker Tyler Bass one for two on pats, was very tentative.
The first one he missed went over the upright, you
get those invisible lines that go up in the air.
Kicked it over it. The second one very tentative, almost
a double doink. Very uncomfortable to watch because again you're like,
this man's so fragile mentally, he just it.
Speaker 1 (18:54):
You know, it is what it is, you know what. Honestly,
I'm sorry, go through the whole thing.
Speaker 4 (19:00):
Okay, had to get some water, thank you. He was
three for three on field goals forty forty nine and
sixty one. Yes you heard that right, a sixty one
yard field goal. The third straight game is I will
get there absolutely, Oh okay, third straight field game with
no field goal misses. Postgame in the locker room, bassalls
borderline emotional when talking with the team about what he
has gone through this season after receiving the game ball quote,
(19:21):
it means everything, very emotional, just reminding myself that I
love this, I love the sport. This is what I've
dreamed of them, and when I was out there, I honestly,
wasn't thinking about anything that went through my processes and
trust my preparation, and that was it. It is a
career long and franchise record sixty one yard game winning
field goal.
Speaker 1 (19:38):
Excuse me insane.
Speaker 4 (19:40):
He has the ninth kicker all time in first sense
Greg Joseph on December twenty fourth, twenty twenty two, with
a game winning field goal of sixty or more yards
in the final two minutes of regulation or in overtime.
The previous franchise record fifty nine yards by Steve Christy
versus the Dolphins on September twenty sixth, nineteen ninety three.
Speaker 1 (19:56):
It is the I love the tie in there record
broken against the Dolphins is the.
Speaker 4 (20:00):
Fourteenth field goal of fifty plus yards for Bass, tie
in with Dan Carpenter for most all time by a
Buffalo kicker. Bass moves to thirteen or fourteen on field
goals inside the final two minutes or an overtime, and
this is the seventh such made field goal to give
Buffalo a lead. His sixteenth straight field goal in the
second half when Bass has the chance to tie or
take the lead, and he moves to nine for nine
(20:22):
on field goal attempts in the last minute of the
fourth quarter or overtime. In his career, he has made
five game winning field goals in the final minute of
a game. And also for his efforts, Tyler Bass named
the AFC Special Teams Player of the Week for the
first time in his career.
Speaker 1 (20:38):
You know what, good for him, very very happy for him.
He needed this, is very clear he needed this, arguably
more than the Buffalo Bills needed him to make that kick.
I think just when athletes struggle, I think, as fans
it's tough. I don't think I want to say it's tough,
(21:01):
but I just I don't know where or why the
human element gets taken out of it. Because Tyler Bass
has been pounded on and pounded on and and just
like I said last week, where you can't tell me
these folks don't listen to trust the podcast Wink wink,
or listen to Sports Center or watch you know, NFL
(21:25):
Live or any of those shows, and hear these experts
sitting on there being paid to talk shit for all
intents and purposes about you or your team or how
you're performing on your team, and really analyze it and
be very critical of it in front of a nationwide
(21:46):
audience who then curates their own interpretations and they and
that translates to, you know, whatever they post on social
media or however they or if they boo him in
real life when he's trying to do his thing, or
you know, he's walking around at a grocery store and
someone makes a reference to it or whatever instead of like,
(22:07):
you know, acknowledging the human element of it. So you
have to you have to feel good for the guy
just for that alone. Like he he the focal point
came on him. I'm sure most fans, maybe not necessarily
the legacy ones, but maybe most fans that are you know,
(22:28):
cling to Sports Center and all these different shows with
all these different analyst takes and all that. I have
to believe that the initial thought when it came to
Tyler Bass kicking a sixty one yard field goal to
win the game against the Dolphins. I'm fancying there's probably
a good portion of fans that were rolling their eyes
and like, oh, great, here we go. We're gonna blow
(22:49):
this game, you know, I mean, and then he drilled,
and then he drills it, and the jubilation you saw
how the team reacted around him, you saw how emotional
he got, he got the game ball, you know all
of that. And if you don't think that that team,
that Buffalo Bill's team was riding with this dude in
spite of all of the misses and all the struggles
(23:11):
that he was having, that there cleared it all up.
I think this was I couldn't be happier for the guy.
I really couldn't be.
Speaker 4 (23:18):
Yeah, I mean, going throughout the season, you know, we've
talked about the Buffalo Bills need to move on from
him because he has struggled so much. And again the
human element comes out because you don't hear from him
very often. You know, kickers don't really ever talk to
the media unless you know, you have a game like
this where they make a game when you field goal
or do something terribly wrong. But at the end of
(23:38):
the day, I mean, the Bills, I think if they
were going to get rid of him, they would have
done it by now. But financially it does not make sense.
So this man has been a mentally a punching bag
for so long, right, so now at this point he
gets this, this moment of redemption. And even on the broadcast,
I remember them saying, you know, hey, why why would
you go for a six one yard field goal? And
(24:01):
I think it was a nine mile an hour wind
back at bath yep.
Speaker 1 (24:04):
But you know what at all it wasn't It wasn't
the Bills radio network that said that. That must have
been the television.
Speaker 4 (24:10):
No, it was the actual television broadcast that.
Speaker 1 (24:12):
Yeah, I was. I was listening on on the radio,
And I don't know that the Bill's television the Bill's
radio announcers were overly critical or or mailing it in.
They certainly had their reservations, but I think they were
more along the lines of, you know, it's clear Sean
McDermott trusts his kickers and trusts his players to play
(24:34):
and do their jobs. So it seems to me like
that approach with it.
Speaker 4 (24:39):
Looking back on it, revisionist, revisionist history style. First off,
you and you and Chris got the video of me
on my camera, uh, watching the video or watching the kick,
which was I thought was pretty funny. Trying to be
as quiet as I can when my wife and daughters slept.
My wife had woken up, but daughters were still sleeping
on the couch taking a nap with my wife.
Speaker 1 (24:57):
I was in I was at a at a cheer
comp tissue, my daughter's final to your competition season, so
it was very very loud in there. I couldn't hear
a thing.
Speaker 4 (25:06):
Look it, man, it's it. It seems like the Bills
had been slowly but surely but in quietly building up
Tyler Bass's confidence, brick by brick by brick, and this
was the final piece of the puzzle for him to
prove to himself that he's still he still has it,
he can still do it, he can still perform under pressure,
obviously a career long kick, the team rallying around him,
(25:28):
the team putting their their their their trust and their
their patients, podcast, their patients, everything into Tyler Bass, and
he pays it off with this game winning field goal,
which dude, I could not believe my eyes when I saw.
But I will take.
Speaker 1 (25:43):
It absolutely and you should. And and again, good for
good for Tyler Bass. If anybody deserves a break from
from the ship storm that social media can bring on people, uh,
it was him.
Speaker 4 (25:56):
Good for him absolutely. Well, Hey, we're going to take
a quick break here. After this quick break, we'll be
back with more Trust the podcast here on the Gear
Radio Network, and we're back here on trust the podcast John.
As always, our third segment around the NFL.

Speaker 1 (27:14):
Oh so so he added this one. Uh I he
added he's calling himself the Holy One.
Speaker 4 (27:23):
Just let it slide.
Speaker 1 (27:25):
Now over to our unpaid intern, the Holy Jackwagon Chris
Downy for around the UNAVL. Here on Trust the Podcast, Thanks.
Speaker 2 (27:33):
Ryan and John, and now here is your Week eight
recap from around the National Football League. It was a
fourth Sunday in October, the bye week for the bye weeks,
and it was also National tight End Day around the league.
And what a day it was. All told, there were
sixteen touchdowns and one hundred and seventy seven receptions caught
by the league's hybrid lineman receiver combination on Sunday, the
(27:54):
most receptions by that position in any single day throughout
league history. Really showing up for your day there, boys.
The top tight end battle happened down in Tampa Bay
in an NFC South matchup, as Atlanta took down Tampa
Bay thirty one to twenty six. It was a game
that showcased both tight ends very well. Kyle Pitts and
Kate Anton scored twice for each of their respective squads.
(28:16):
Pits with four catches for ninety one yards and two scores.
His second score bit of a question mark, as it
looked like the ball may have been jarred loose before
the goal line, but review upheld the play. Kate Oughten
for Tampa Bay had nine catches for eighty one yards
and two touchdowns, and now to the AFC North in Cleveland,
(28:37):
rivalry game between the Browns and the Ravens lived up
to the hype. Cedric Tilman caught a thirty eight yard
touchdown pass from famous Jameis Winston with just under a
minute left as the Cleveland Browns upset the Baltimore Ravens
in an AFC North matchup. Jameis Winston was the first
start for him since Theshaun Watson went down last week
with season ending injury. Through for over three hundred yards
three thirty four to be exact, three touchdowns and no interceptions.
(29:00):
Here's your stat of the day from that game. Jameis
Winston and Joe Flacco, who now plays for the Colts,
have had seven starts for the Browns and they've thrown
for three hundred plus yards six times. Deshaun Watson, he
has had zero such games in nineteen starts for the
Cleveland Browns. Lamar Jackson threw two hundred and eighty nine
yards and two touchdowns and the loss, and Zay Flowers
caught seven passes for one hundred and fifteen yards. Back
(29:24):
to the NFC another last second win on the dock.
At this last Sunday, Washington with an eighteen to fifteen
win over the Chicago Bears is Jayden Daniels. A sixty
five air yard fifty two from the line of scrimmage
hell Mary was zero's on the clock, gave the Commanders
a win over Chicago in the first battle the top
two picks of the twenty twenty four NFL draft. Daniels
(29:45):
threw for three hundred and twenty six yards and a
touchdown in the win. Terry McLaurin caught five passes for
one hundred and twenty five yards. Kayleb Williams only three
fo one hundred and thirty one yards, but DeAndre Swift
ran for a buck twenty nine on eighteen touches for
a score. Another note from that game. During the hell
Mary play, Bears cornerback Tyreek Stevenson was seen a bit
(30:08):
prematurely celebrating and talking toward the Commander's crowd before the
snap and even during the start of that last play,
causing him one He was out of position and two.
He was late to the play. But to cap it
all off, as they say, karma is you know what.
He was the one that tipped the ball up and
fell in No Brown's hands in the end zone, unguarded. Lastly,
(30:30):
we head to the Motor City as Detroit absolutely Trounce's
Tennessee fifty two to fourteen. Detroit scored thirty five first
half points, including twenty one straight after a fourteen to
fourteen tie to go into the half up by three scores.
Jared goff only had three incompletions on the day, Detroit
seven touchdowns. And if you were listening last week, we
(30:51):
had a stat through four games, while it's now updated
through five games. In the last five games, Detroit twenty
five touchdowns to Jared goff only eighteen incomplete.
Speaker 1 (31:00):
Again a good.
Speaker 2 (31:02):
Recipe for success. Now, if you're looking at stat line,
you're mat thinking man. Detroit had fifty two points. Jared
Goffin's had a day. He did twelve to fifteen passing
for a total of eighty five yards. That's right, eighty
five yards three passing, touchdown total fifteen passing. He was efficient.
He didn't need to do much as Jamior Gibbs ran
eleven times or one hundred and twenty seven yards, including
(31:23):
a seventy yard touchdown run back to the tight ends
on National tight End Day, Sam Laporta led the Lions
and receiving with six sketches. He had forty eight yards
on those six sketches and he scored.
Speaker 1 (31:36):
Again.
Speaker 2 (31:36):
Kansas City won. They're still undefeated. Big whoop. They host
Denver and Tampa Bay the next two weeks before traveling
to Orchard Park, and that is a game that has
big potential to have early playoff seeking implications both for
the Bills and Chiefs. Buffalo only a game and a
half back at Kansas City right now, Buffalo has its
by after Kansas City. I know we're still a couple
(31:58):
of weeks out, but the top seed in the AFC
could have big playoff implications after this. And lastly, some
injury notes coming out here. On day of recording, Tuesday,
October twenty ninth, Stefan Diggs went down in their game
against Indianapolis and it was revealed he has a torn
ACL He is out for the year. Another quote injury note,
(32:23):
Anthony Richardson left the game, took himself out, benched himself
whatever you want to call it, in that same game
because he was quote too tired after a certain play
and now he has plenty of time of the rest.
Joe Flacco will get the start this coming week, his
fourth start of the year for the Indianapolis Colts. As
his tradition here on Trust the Podcast, Now, you know
(32:44):
when a episode is done recording, there happens to be
news that breaks shortly there after. A couple of weeks ago,
it was the Amari Cooper trade to Buffalo, but this
one now applies to around the NFL, so I'll take it. Thanks,
Ryan and John. Baltimore has added another wide receiver, trading
for Deontay Johnson from the Carolina Panthers, giving up a
(33:05):
mid round, mid to low round draft pick looks to
be a fifth round pick. Johnson already joins the group
of Za Flowers, Bateman Aguilar, and Mark Andrews on the
wide outs, as well as Derek Henry in the backfield
along with Lamar Jackson. A big ad for the Ravens
getting another weapon for Lamar to throw to. We'll see
how it plays out. You know, Baltimore is really gearing
(33:28):
up for a playoff run and for Buffalo's sake. Maybe
you don't want to play them after the way their
matchup played out earlier this year. Maybe you want revenge.
Either way, Baltimore edited another weapon for the second half
of the season, going into the turn of the calendar
year as well. We'll see how it plays out. And that,
my friends, is your Week eight recap from around the NFL.
(33:50):
Ryan and John back to you.
Speaker 4 (33:51):
Thank you for that, Chris. We are we are back
talking our look ahead here.
Speaker 1 (33:55):
John one.
Speaker 4 (33:58):
It's funny because you know, I was. I feel like
I've been waiting for to do something like that, because
he knows how religiously we run through this lineup to
make sure that we keep the podcast on the track,
so he almost I did not notice that. I've been
working on this all week long. I did not notice
that until literally I started read.
Speaker 1 (34:14):
I didn't even notice it at first. Originally I was
just kind of going through the ad read and then
I see that, and I see the Holy One, and
that is like a Now, I.
Speaker 4 (34:23):
Got to pay attention now because no.
Speaker 1 (34:25):
No, that's fine, that's great. It was I enjoy I
enjoy the humor there. So well done, Chris, and also
shut up, Chris excuse.
Speaker 4 (34:33):
Me, I look ahead here. First off, John trade deadline
came in passed this week. Buffalo did not make any
big trades, but they do make some moves on the
back end. To shore up their defensive line. They signed
defensive tackle Quentin Jefferson, recently released by the Cleveland Browns.
Jefferson spent the twenty twenty season with Buffalo, recording three
(34:54):
sacks in sixteen games. Buffalo also signed defensive tackle Jordan Phillips,
recently released by the Dallas Cowboys. His his pro football
focus and again I know disclaimer pro football focus is
you can't base directly off of that, but you can
use it as part of a bigger argument to to
look as bigger part of your research. But if it's
your only research, eh, Jordan Phillips, his numbers did not
(35:17):
look good this year with Dallas Cowboys, But then again,
the Dallas Conboys have not looked good this year. So
you know, I'm sure Lewis.
Speaker 1 (35:22):
Is even Dak Prescott's like they suck Lewis Is.
Speaker 4 (35:24):
Yeah, he literally like Lewis has been very quiet in
our in our Gear Network chat about.
Speaker 1 (35:28):
For Lewis actually forwarded me something very funny in reference
to the Dallas Cowboys, and it is politically tied. It's
tied to politics, but it's actually quite humorous because of
the fact that Lewis is so such a Cowboys fan. Yep,
and you know we'll go to no end to defend them.
(35:49):
For him to send me this, this is him conceding that, yes,
they do suck this year. But it's this meme and
it says Clinton served four years, Bush serve eight years,
Obama served eight years, Trump served four years, Trump lost reelection,
Biden served four years, Trump won again, all before the
(36:09):
Cowboys advanced past the second round of the playoffs. Sitting
there just.
Speaker 4 (36:16):
Like, man, I mean, you got a feel for Dak
the dude tour part of his hamstring off the bone,
just just being a quarterback. But hey, good for him
getting that, Good for him getting that. Get in that paper, man,
get that.
Speaker 1 (36:27):
No one, no one ever, no one ever was mad
about Dak Prescott being a nice guy. He's one of
the nicest guys in the NFL. It kind of sucks
the situation he's in now. But he earned his pay
for sure.
Speaker 4 (36:40):
Oh absolutely absolutely, because if Dallas wasn't gonna pay him,
somebody else was so to clearp roster spot, the Bills put, uh,
my brain just completely touted out Farted Edwards. Now they
they cut Mike Edwards, who subsequently sun with Tennessee Titans
after requesting a trade. He's an off season acquisition, got
hurt in training camp, got hurt again before the season,
(37:03):
just never found his way that he was never able
to get back into the lineup, So that makes sense.
And they also put Dwayne Smoot on IR as mentioned before.
So two roster spots opened up, and there they are now.
Week ten, Buffalo at Indianapolis one pm on CBS. A
big game for me personally, John, because my job is
based out of Indiana. A lot of my coworkers are
Colts fans, so this is going to be a this
(37:25):
is a rivalry game for me.
Speaker 1 (37:27):
There you go. So the Josh Allen's against the Joe
Flaccos Joey.
Speaker 4 (37:32):
Joe Flaka Indianapolis Colts four and five, three and one
at home, second in AFC South. Last week they lost
twenty one to thirteen to Minnesota Joe Flacco. Five games played,
eight UNDERD ninety five passing yard, seven touches, two picks.
Sounds like the Colts have moved on from Anthony Richardson,
which is wow, that's that's quick. But hey, look at it.
Do be like that sometimes. The one thing I want
(37:53):
to point out, John though, wild but true per at
NFL on CBS, Wild but true. The last Bills quarterback
to win Indianapolis as Doug flute and he beat Peyton Manning.
Since nineteen ninety nine, the Colts are a six and
zero at home against the Buffalo Bills.
Speaker 1 (38:10):
You know what, I really I didn't know that that
really is wild. But with that said, it was Doug
Flutie all those years ago.
Speaker 4 (38:17):
Dead ass. I wouldn't lie to you. Wow, I don't
think I would lie to you. ESPN matchupredictor sixty five
one percent of American Blues Buffalo ahead to Indianapolis and
come home with their eighth win of the season. John
we Got.
Speaker 1 (38:30):
I'm going to say Buffalo on this one, but I
would I would say it's going to be a closer
game than I think. Probably people will give it credit
for Joe Flacco, you know, especially the last couple of years,
kind of having a little bit of a renaissance and
playing you know, very well. Actually, he's been playing very
well helped lead Cleveland to the playoffs last last year
(38:51):
and now kind of coming in relief here. When you
put those numbers there, in five games played, throwing seven
touties to two interceptions, that's a pretty good ratio that timeframe.
So I think they're going to be a little bit
smarter on offense. And that's not to you know, throw
shade on Anthony Richardson or anything like that. I think
he kind of along the same lines of Carolina's quarterback
(39:15):
Bryce Young. I think this is his name. I can't remember.
His name is escaping me right now, but it's kind
of like what Brady said, uh not too long ago,
where it's kind of a travesty where the expectation now
is that rookie quarterbacks just play right off the gate
and and not have that time to fully develop and
sit behind a veteran and learn because we're in such
a win now mode, right And I think that's kind
(39:38):
of sad for Anthony Richardson that they gave up on
him so soon.
Speaker 4 (39:41):
But in this same real, real quick I saw something
last night that I shared with one of my one
of my coworkers, a Colts fan who who Mike Colts
fan coworker did ask me. He said, hey, do you
see in Anthony Richardson? What what you and Buffalo saw
in Josh Allen? And I said, look at raw tent wise. Absolutely,
(40:02):
dude's an athletic freak like Anthony Richardson, He's got all
of the tools to do it. But the difference is
is that Josh Allen has like the football mentality where
Bruce Arians I was running through TikTok and I know
barstool Sports is trash, but sometimes they pop up on
my for you page and one of the things was
an interview with Bruce Arians where they asked him, you know,
(40:22):
are they giving up on young quarterbacks too early? And
Bruce Arians said, Bryce Young can still probably make it
happen in the National Football League. His height is it
is trouble. It's worrisome, But if Doug Flutie can do it,
I'm sure someone can build an offense around in the
right system, Bryce Young could be okay, he could be
a good NFL quarterback. Anthony Richardson, though he's just an athlete,
(40:43):
and athlete athletes at quarterback, not quarterbacks who are athletic.
There's a difference. There's right, He's in, he's he's in.
There's there's quarterbacks who are athletic and athletic quarterbacks. Quarterbacks
who are athletic that can translate athletic quarterba that doesn't
often translate because those players are very good in college
(41:03):
and when they come to the NFL, everybody is athletic.
So don't have the skills in the talent to take
yourself to that next level. That's when guys fizzle out.
And it seems like it really seems like and Bruce
arians brought up Jalen Hurts, same type of thing where
he had to make that transition between being an athletic
quarterback and a quarterback to a quarterback who is athletic.
Speaker 1 (41:26):
Well, yeah, and I know thee defense. He wasn't an
immediate starter right off the gate. Well sure, I'm just saying,
like a spot starter. He had like these these plays
that he was worked into, almost like a wildcat type
play in the very beginning, but he was largely on
the bench. He didn't take over I think until I
think the second year, maybe even midway through the second year.
(41:47):
I'm corrected, But.
Speaker 4 (41:48):
What I'm getting to is, you look at guys like
Anthony Richardson and you say, man, he's got all the tools,
but why can't he put it together? Because I know
that has And that's part of.
Speaker 1 (41:57):
What I think the Brady argument is where folks like
him were were kind of expected to go into Now.
Mind you, when they're in college and they're playing in
the college system, are they adults. Yeah, by the time
they get out, yes, they're technically adults, but they're still
competing with kids and very young adults. And they're coming
(42:18):
into a league where you've got an age range of
twenty one through forty two, you know what I mean,
And it's a very different level. And to go from
college to pro I don't care who you are, there
is an adjustment there. You saw what Peyton Mannings first year.
Even Peyton Mannings first year, he wasn't Peyton Manning tom Brady.
Tom Brady was the six round draft pick, could even
(42:38):
even see the field the first year, and even in
the second year when he took over for Bledsoe, he
still wasn't Tom Brady. You know, he needed that time
to develop. And you can go back over the analyst
of time and you can look at Aaron Rodgers when
you know he was famously sitting behind far for three years.
Even a little bit before that, Philip Rivers was on
(43:00):
the bench while Drew Brees was in San Diego marinating
and developing. And to go back to the Packers, Jordan
Love where it was sitting there marinating and developing while
Aaron Rodgers was still doing his Ayahasca thing out there.
There is something to be said about these quarterback these
(43:22):
rookie quarterbacks coming into the league and just having that
time to sit there and wait. Mahomes prime example, he
sat behind Alex Smith, and Alex Smith's last year in
Kansas City, he didn't start until the very last game
of the season. By that point, Kansas City was already
playoff bound anyways, and then they went back to Alex
(43:44):
Smith to start the playoff game that year, and then
went to Mahomes the next year and onward. Pat Mahomes
had that time to sit there and watch the game,
knowing that he's a quarterback and football minded for sure,
and that he's athletic, but he's still had the time
to watch the speed, watch the game, watch the flows,
watch the things like that. That's what's a missing from
(44:06):
a lot of these quarterbacks. So maybe there is something
to Anthony Richardson. Maybe he's not the quarterback right, but
I don't think he was given a fair shot to
develop and sit behind someone that may have been established
a Jacoby Brissette even or or a Joe Flacco. Now,
you know, maybe now he has the opportunity that opportunity
(44:26):
to do that, and maybe they won't give up on
him next year. I'm not sure, but I just think overall,
by practice, that's what happens in the NFL is they
expect rookies to be able to lead right from the
get go, and it more often than not doesn't work out.
Speaker 4 (44:40):
Absolutely, It's all about the what have you done for
me lately? And if you don't get a chance to
prove yourself, then.
Speaker 1 (44:44):
Josh Allen wasn't Josh Allen even. I mean, I know
he he didn't start all all of his rookie year,
but he at least sat a couple of games and
then and then learned over time. But at least he
had the ability to sit a couple of games while
you know, the other options that may not have been
the better options. Nathan Peterman, I'm looking in your direction
(45:04):
wasn't working out very well. So you know, there there's
that too. But you know, Richardson was I think right
from the get go he was starting.
Speaker 4 (45:13):
And then he then he messed his shoulder up. Then
he came back and got hurt again. So again it's
it's it also sounds to me like they're trying to
figure out their direction of their team and all that.
But but that said, I think, I mean, I think
Buffalo's going to take it.
Speaker 1 (45:24):
Yeah, yeah, I don't see what I do. I do
think they'll take it, but I do believe that it'll
be it'll be. It won't be a blowout. I don't
think it'll be close like Miami close here. But you know,
if Buffalo scores thirty points, they'll.
Speaker 4 (45:37):
Thirty thirty one to seventeen something like that.
Speaker 1 (45:40):
Yeah, I would even yeah, thirty one seventeen or thirty
one twenty one or something like that. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (45:45):
But hey, with that being said, Boomer, please by all
means take it away.
Speaker 1 (45:49):
No one circles the wagons like the Buffalo bills.
Speaker 4 (45:54):
For John Somino and Chris Downey. I am Ryan Wolf.
We are trust the podcast or not. We'll catch you,
same time, same place next week, my friends. Thank you
for tuning in and as always.
Speaker 1 (46:04):
Go bills, show show y'all. The preceding presentation has been
