The Buffalo Bills headed out to the West Coast to take on the Los Angeles Rams in what would become a game that will go down in the history books.
Ryan Wolfe and John Cimino are back with a brand-new edition of Trust The Podcast, joined by Chris Downey.

Fans of football saw things on Sunday afternoon that they had not seen previously - both teams scoring a ton with no turnovers.

Even though Buffalo suffered a loss, Josh Allen's assault on the NFL record book was evident as well.

game that was.

Speaker 3 (01:00):
Much better than I and than I anticipated it being.
Not that I thought that it was going to be
a terrible game, but I did not expect it to
be what was on display.

Speaker 1 (01:09):
So we'll just jump in head first, I mean our
rundown Buffalo's seven game win streak comes to an end
at the at the hands of a forty four to
forty two loss. That is, that's so frustrating, really because

(01:30):
it's a it's a loss that will be remembered for
a long time. The Bills moved to ten and three
in the season. Again, they're still headed to the playoffs.
The one seed might be a little far out of
reach at this point, but we'll we'll get there. You
never know. There's there's four weeks left. Yeah, and the
Chiefs still look like they made a deal with the devil.

Speaker 3 (01:47):
There's that, honestly, Honestly, I feel like the Lines may
have struck a similar deal. Fair.

Speaker 1 (01:54):
That's very fair. We'll find we'll talk more about that
a bit.

Speaker 3 (01:57):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (01:58):
Once again, John, I am sick and goddamn tired of
the Buffalo Bills continually being on the losing end of
historic games. You know those games where they go, yeah,
oh my god, what a crazy ending. The Bills lose,
You're like, wow, what a crazy game. This was forty
four to forty two. But here, but I'm you're gonna hear,

(02:19):
You're gonna hear all about it today. Sure this game
will go down in history because there were so many
records set or broke in. But again, a Bill's loss.

Speaker 3 (02:29):
Right, And I and I feel and I hate to
be the guy to do this and say this like this,
but the common denominator in all of those historic game
losses always seems to revolve around the coaching.

Speaker 1 (02:46):
And the lack of and the lack of and the
lack of or or.

Speaker 3 (02:49):
Or the strategic or lack of strategy for clock management.

Speaker 1 (02:54):
I was going to bring this up later in the podcast,
but I will mention it now. Sean McDermott did take
credit for the failed for the time out after the
failed QB sneak, saying, looking back, for sure, I don't
want to have to burn a time out there. But John,
I have said this before and I will say this again,
the Buffalo Bills should not have been in that situation

(03:15):
in the first place. You your team should not be
in the situation where you have to convert that to
keep yourself in the game. Placed on the defense. There
they looking at looking at the thirteen second game with
the Chiefs looking at thirteen seconds. Yes, you can look
at that and go Sean McDermott, drop the ball, screw

(03:37):
the pooch, whatever. I look at this and go. People
are looking for somebody to blame. Sure, and it's very
easy to look at Sean McDermott and say, hey, that
guy sucks at his job. Are there situations where he
could be better? Shirt? Does he need to be better
with managing time management and all that. Sure, but at
the end of the day, the Dams played a perfect

(04:02):
game and the Bills defense offensively did not show up. Yeah,
I mean the defense didn't show up on either side
to the ball. So if we're gonna be you know,
if anybody should be dissecting anything, it should be the
defenses of both teams because neither could handle the offense
from the OpenD. When you come into when a team

(04:23):
comes into playing against the Bills, and John you can
speak to this because you're a Jets fan. The Bills
played them twice a year. Yeah, you're not going into
that game saying, man, our defense has got to step
it up and we really got to slow them down.
It's no, we just have to score more points than
they do. Because again, it's hard to stop this Bill's offense.
It's the it's the first game, Uh where that's not

(04:46):
what I'm looking for. Now, the seventh straight game where
the Bills have scored thirty plus points, which is a
new franchise record. Again, you're not coming into this going,
you know what, We're gonna slow them down, We're gonna
hold them to ten points. No, you're gonna say, we
got to score one more point than they do. And
that's and that's what I mean by the Rams played
a perfect game every time that makes the scoring.

Speaker 3 (05:05):
Yeah, and and yes, that's that's true. Plenty of blame
to go around as far as you know defensively is concerned.
But offensively, man, I gotta tell you, even in defeat,
Josh Allen is the MVP hands down. There's he locked it.
If they would have won, it would have been a
sure bat. He could have just easily walked to the award.

Speaker 1 (05:24):
Now, I'm sure people were saying that he clinched it
even in the loss.

Speaker 3 (05:29):
Like, yeah, agree, There's nobody did what he did that game.
Nobody in the entire of the NFL history, no one
did what Josh Allen did. That's not me being a homer,
that's not being me being a sympathizer. That's just stating
a straight up pro football fact. The game that Josh
Allen played, the numbers that Josh Allen put up this

(05:51):
past Sunday, Nobody in NFL history did that.

Speaker 1 (05:57):
Uh yeah, and that and again that's what we'll talk
about here in just a minute.

Speaker 3 (06:01):
But we're gonna I will say this. You mentioned you
mentioned something about me being Jets fan. I'm gonna share
some breaking news, ready, breaking news. The Jets are eliminated
from playoff contention. It's all buffalo for me for now.

Speaker 1 (06:17):
I thought you were just gonna say breaking news and
just farting into the end of the thing.

Speaker 3 (06:21):
But oh no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no no,
I'll save that for another time. But but the New
York Jets are out of the playoff contention. We already
knew this, probably by the third snap of the first
preseason game, but they are officially eliminated.

Speaker 1 (06:34):
So for me, for this guy, it's Buffalo all the way,
Go Bills. I love that.

Speaker 3 (06:41):
And then by this but by this time next year.
And I may have said this to you either last
week or maybe off maybe off air, I'm not sure,
but I've been I've been having this. I've been having
this big debate with myself because I've been a Jets
fan for forty years opposite you know, opposite this. I've
been a Jets fan for forty years, and I recently

(07:04):
just turned forty four years old, So I'm approaching statistically
the end of the first half of my life right
by the time I hit forty five, and as I
stare the next forty five years ahead from a sports perspective,
you know, how long am I going to be a

(07:25):
fan of mediocrity? How long am I going to be
a fan of a team whose owner I just I
don't support in any way, shape or form. How long
am I going to be a fan of a team
that consistently raises the bar on lowering the bar? And
I have to and I look back, as I'm going

(07:46):
on my soapbox here, I look back on why I
was a fan of the team in the first place,
and without getting too personal, the reason that I was
a fan of that team, the person whom I would
credit as you know, having that tie in is not
in my life any longer and hasn't been in a

(08:06):
very very long time, for reasons that do not need
to be listed on this podcast, and put and put
out to print. But it was for it was because
of that person and my tie to that person. What
what I thought I had with that person, you know,
back when I was five years old, six years old, right,
that was you know that the New York Jets was

(08:28):
the thing that I at least held on to that
was like, okay, this was a good memory with with
this person and I right, but through the you know,
last forty years, it's really just kind of been me.
And then I look and you look, and you look
at these his at these at these fan bases that
they have, you know, second third generation of of of

(08:54):
you know, fanhood in that in that team, right, and
like for me, for the New York Jets, like I
was really the first. And my kids have never seen
a Jets winning season. They've never seen a Jets playoff game.
They always hear me complain about the team, and so

(09:15):
so much so to the point where my fourteen year
old daughter has asked me repeatedly, why are you even
a fan of this team? I've heard nothing my whole life,
I've heard you complain about this team, and I'm just like,
you never know, you don't know, you don't know, you
know what I mean, but by this point next year,
I'm going to give the New York Jets the offseason
to figure their lives out again in this millionth rebuild

(09:36):
in my life. But by this point next year, if
things aren't going you know, if things aren't going good
or at least giving the vibe that that team will
be ascending and looking like a normal run professional football franchise,
then I think I'm going to take my investment elsewhere.

Speaker 1 (09:57):
Well, the Bills mafia would be glad to have you, John.

Speaker 3 (10:01):
Well, yes, I do know this, and believe me, there
have been a lot of people like, all right, when
are you coming in? When you join in, when you
join in, come on, you're you know, And someone told
me the other day, you're mister Rochester, You're mister red Wings,
You're mister Amerks. Why wouldn't you you know, you're you're
a Homer, you know what I mean? And so the
next the natural progression to me would be rooting for Buffalo.

(10:25):
So we'll we will see. By this time, I shu,
I don't want to be the guy that's you know,
given the optic, giving the optic of I'm abandoning ship
and bandwagoning, I could certainly tell I could certainly talk
Buffalo Bill's history from nineteen eighty three on through present
day with the.

Speaker 1 (10:43):
Best of them. If anybody ever decided would wanted to
doubt you, just give them to link to the podcast
and say right, I'm a bigger fan than you are.

Speaker 3 (10:50):
Let's be like, bro, I've been a Josh Allen guy
since day one.

Speaker 1 (10:53):
It's documented. I'll get the podcast fired up, man, I
will get it fired.

Speaker 3 (10:57):
Up well, and I'll we'll bring more listens to it.
But anyway, that's my soapbox.

Speaker 1 (11:00):
Any of that was so looking at this game. Oh wait,
more breaking news.

Speaker 3 (11:03):
I'm sorry, hold on, hold on, hold on.

Speaker 1 (11:08):
There we go, ready for this? Yeah, okay, thank you.
I knew something was coming. The first game in NFL
history john which both teams scored forty plus points but
neither committed a turnover, the second game all time with
five plus combined passing touchdowns and five plus combined rushing
touchdowns and no turnovers. It happened also in nineteen sixty five,

(11:28):
and the Chiefs first Broncos entering Sunday teams with at
least six touchdowns and zero giveaways in a game where
two hundred and forty five and zero in the Super
Bowl air including the playoffs. Buffalo is the first team
to do so in a loss, and now Buffalo moves
to thirty eight and one all time when scoring forty
two or more points in the game. I am not
going to expand on that. I'm just going to move

(11:48):
over to our three big Things brought to you by

As always, please gam a responsible now, John, I was
thinking about changing the name of the podcast this week
to Trust the Josh Allen Podcast, because well, wrapping up
the offense, quarterback Josh Allen, if you have lived under
a rock twenty two of thirty seven, three hundred and
forty two passing yards, three touchdowns, no interceptions, with ten

(12:31):
cares for eighty two yards, and three rushing touchdowns. Over
the last two weeks thirty five of fifty four passing
at sixty five percent, four hundred and ninety pass yards,
one hundred rushing yards, seven receiving yards, five passing touchdowns,
four rushing touchdowns, and one receiving touchdown. As it says
here in the show notes, holy guacamole, brother, where do
we even begin?

Speaker 3 (12:49):
It's it's it's hard to to say, it's hard to
figure out where we begin when it comes to this guy.
This this dude is that dude like, we've never seen
anything like him. And I'm not saying this just as regional,
we've not really seen anything like him overall in in
national football legue. When you start putting these things together
and seeing what he's done, and and Ryan, you do

(13:10):
an incredible job of documenting it week after week, the
things to call out, the things to point out. I
often call you the best in the business. And this
is the reason why we have we have witnessed firsthand
the ascension of Josh Allen as he is, you know,
progressing and progressing, and really this is nothing anybody, not

(13:32):
even the greatest, not even the biggest of fans who
who said, you know episode three or four of the
first year of Josh Allen.

Speaker 1 (13:40):
Hey, you guys did get the right Josh. Just give
it time. If he's developed appropriately, why he can be
really good.

Speaker 3 (13:46):
But I don't think any of us, anybody expected this.

Speaker 1 (13:51):
No, and again, take a seat by the campfire or
by your fireplace because it is the holiday season, throw
a log on a fire, and we're going to take
you on the history of the NFL with Josh Allen.
Let's do it. First quarterback in NFL history to record
three plus passing and three plus rushing touchdowns in the
same game. He's the second Buffalo quarterback all time with
three rushing touchdowns in a game, joining Jack Kemp who

(14:12):
did the same thing October twenty sixth, nineteen sixty three.
First the Boston Patriots. It's Josh Allen's twenty seventh regular
season game with three hundred plus passing yards, breaking a
tie with Jim Kelly at twenty six For you.

Speaker 3 (14:23):
Remember, do you remember when he didn't have a three
hundred passing yard game and you were like, when is
that gonna When is that gonna happen?

Speaker 1 (14:29):
And then he and then it's when he owned the
record for fourteens all the time in franchise history. Josh
Allen is the fourth such quarterback in NFL history with
three hundred and forty plus passing yards and eighty plus
rushing yards in the same game, joining Cam Newton, who
went for three forty and one hundred with the Carolina
Panthers on December twenty, twenty fifteen, quarterback Russell Wilson, who
went three eighty eight and eighty four for Seattle on

(14:51):
October twenty fifth, twenty twenty, and quarterback Justin Herbert who
went for three eighty two and ninety for the Los
Angeles Chargers on November twenty first, twenty twenty one. Josh
Allen finished the game with sixty two career rushing touchdowns,
becoming the second NFL quarterback all time with sixty plus
career rushing touchdowns, trilling only Cam Newton for first all
time at seventy five.

Speaker 3 (15:10):
Now here's something, here's something to throw in there. His
second his his career rushing touchdowns right now. They exceed
Oj Simpson and Terrell Davis, both Hall of famers.

Speaker 1 (15:24):
And he is not too far behind Thurman Thomas for
all time. I didn't grab that record, but I'll grab
it right now.

Speaker 3 (15:31):
Thurman Thomas twenty eight years old.

Speaker 1 (15:34):
Still remember the Buffalo Bills. Thurman Thomas had sixty five
rushing touchdowns in his career. That's the all time franchise
record for the Buffalo Bills. So there's a potential chance
that Josh Allen is going to get that year.

Speaker 3 (15:45):
Oh yeah, he's he's going to get that at all.
But I mean, like, now it's time. You know, do
you remember the ongoing I don't say ongoing, but do
you want to Do you remember the gag when Patrick
Mahomes was on his ascension and I kept calling him
future Hall of Famer Patrick Mahomes. I think it's safe
to say Josh Allen is a future Hall of Famer.

Speaker 1 (16:03):
It's fair. It seems like it's heading in that direction.
I mean again, it was his twenty third game on Sunday,
with two plus passing touchdowns and one rushing touchdown, breaking
a tie with Cam Newton at twenty two for most
such games all time in NFL history. He recorded two
plus passing and two plus rushing touchdowns, marking his fifth
such career game, breaking a tie with Hall of Famer
Steve Young at four for most such games all time

(16:26):
in NFL history. Josh Allen reached two hundred and fifty
total touchdowns in his one hundred and seventh career game,
tying Patrick Mahomes for the fewest games all time to
get to two hundred and fifty combined touchdowns in NFL history.
Josh Allen also set the record for most seasons all
time with twenty plus passing and nine plus rushing touchdowns,

(16:46):
this being the third season he's done that. Josh Allen
also recorded his three thousandth passing yard and four hundredth
rushing yard on the season on Sunday for the sixth time,
tying Russell Wilson, moving Alan into a tie for second
all time behind only Cam Newton, who has recorded seven
such seasons. Josh Allen also became the fifth quarterback in

(17:07):
NFL history all time to record twenty five thousand plus
passing yards and four thousand plus rushing yards in a career.
Allen currently set at twenty five thousand, seven hundred and
thirty six passing and four thy twenty seven rushing, joining
Russell Wilson who is at forty five four to thirty
seven and five thousand, three hundred and fifty one passing
and rushing, Steve Young at thirty three thousand, one hundred

(17:29):
and twenty four and four thousand, two hundred and thirty nine,
Cam Newton at thirty two thousand, three hundred and eighty
two passing, five thousand, six hundred and thirty one rushing,
and Randall Cunningham at twenty nine thousand, nine hundred and
seventy nine passing and four thousand, nine hundred and twenty
eight rushing yards. If you thought John, if you thought
it ended there, you are mistaken. Allen's tenth career game

(17:49):
with three hundred plus passing and fifty plus rushing yards,
extending his own NFL bettor tenth his game doing that,
his ninth career game with three plus passing and one
rush one plus US rushing touchdown, tying Tom Brady and
Drew Brees for most such games all time in NFL history.
It's his second career game with three plus passing and
two plus rushing touchdowns in the same game, tying Cordell

(18:12):
Stewart for most such games all time in NFL history. Furthermore,
John that three plus passing and two plus rushing touchdown
performance marks the twentieth time this has ever happened in
the history of the National Football League, and all the games,
the twentieth time, and that's goddamn impressive. Another thing I
came across, per Tim Graham. Over the final twenty three

(18:35):
minutes and twenty six seconds of the game, Josh Allen
went twelve for nineteen, passing one hundred ninety one passing
yards and two passing touchdowns, with seven carries for eighty
one yards and two rushing touchdowns. There have been only
ninety one games in NFL history, including the postseason, where
a player has had multiple passing and rushing touchdowns in
the same game. Josh Allen did it in a quarter
to a half, so again he was on on Sunday.

(19:01):
It's his fourth straight game with the rushing touchdown. I
should say we're going to move back to normal, boring,
non historical programming now. It was Josh Allen's fourth straight
game with a rushing touchdown, marking the fourth time in
his career, he has done that. I had a game
of four straight streak of fourth steer games his forty
first career game with at least one passing on one
rushing touchdown for shy of Cam Newton at forty five

(19:21):
for most such games at all time in NFL history.
Buffalo now has twenty four team rushing touchdowns on the season,
fourth most in a single season for the franchise. In
nineteen sixty four they had twenty five, nineteen seventy five
they had twenty six, and then twenty sixteen they had
twenty nine. Per John Warrow on Twitter, Buffalo is thirty
and six when Allen does not commit a turnover in
his career. Buffalo is twenty and seven when Allen has

(19:44):
three hundred plus passing yards. Buffalo is three and six
in the regular season one two in the playoffs when
Allen rushes for eighty plus yards. So I guess just
don't let him do that. But also at the right time,
he's very dynamic. He can take over a game, which
he did because again, John, the one thing I wanted
to mention before wasn't mentioned, and I'm gonna mention it now.
At one point in time, of the game, John, it

(20:05):
was thirty one to fourteen. Yep, the Bills were down.
The Bills had fourteen points. They ended up scoring forty
two points and that was eight twenty six. And the
third there was Kyrien Williams had a seven yard rushing
touchdown thirty one to fourteen. And then Buffalo turned it
on outscoring the Rams twenty eight to twenty in the

(20:30):
second half of the game. And that is including twenty
one points three touchdowns in the fourth quarter alone. So again,
offensively it was it was very impressive from Josh Allen
and not really impressive from other people. I know I
didn't update the stat here, but I will tell you

(20:52):
James Cook ended the game six rushes for twenty yards,
which really shows that again like this shows us that
Joe Barry or Joe Barry good, Joe Barry, Joe Joe Brady.
I don't know why I said Barry Joe Brady still
has work to do. When the running game, aside from
Josh Allen, can't get rolling, the scheming clearly needs to

(21:13):
be better to get the backs involved, a great example
being that forty one yard touchdown pass on a running
back screen to Tdy Johnson something that looked like, well,
first off, Buffalo doesn't do a whole lot of right
and then and you're like, oh crap, that's awesome. That's
what you have to do to get those running backs involved.
If you can't run the ball successfully against a really good, young,

(21:36):
tough Rams defense, don't let the points, don't let the
story off. That defensive line is for real.

Speaker 3 (21:41):
I feel like, I feel like this game carried a
much different but it's almost had almost felt like a
playoff vibe. And I and you know, I think the
under normal circumstances, yes, I would agree that Joe Brady,
you know, definitely still has some work to do when
it comes to being in these situations. But the Bill,
they're not in this situation too often, So I don't

(22:03):
think Joe Brady needs to solve for these types of
things very often. I do think, though, having been experienced
with this and now as we're looking ahead towards Detroit
as well, probably gonna be a lot of the same
style of play.

Speaker 1 (22:18):
And when we get in the playoff time, it's good.

Speaker 3 (22:20):
So Brady's really going to have to get to these
schemes and maybe dedicate some time to practice to simulate
situations like these where it needs to be where everything
needs to be executed perfectly in order to keep the
things moving like that. Traditionally, though, they're not in this position,
or at least they haven't been all seasons, so it's
kind of hard to say that. You know how much

(22:43):
work Brady still has to do with relation to this subject.

Speaker 1 (22:45):
I mean, the Bills could not stop Pooka Nakua. That
was very hard to watch because again they just had
nothing for him. And I'm going to kind of wrap
up the defense and special teams and kind of merge
these two. I've got some more offensive stuff, but defensively,
it kind of rolls into the offense. When I mentioned
about needing to get the run game going, they ran
the ball at seventeen times ten in which for Josh
Allen time of possession, the Rams outpossessed the Bills thirty

(23:09):
eight thirty to twenty one thirty. That's right, the Buffalo
Bill scored forty two points in twenty one minutes and
thirty seconds, Absolutely insane. The Rams ran seventy two plays
the Buffalo's fifty four plays. But again, this is where
when it comes down to needing to possess the outpossessed

(23:29):
the other team because hey, your defense may be having
a bad day, or you just know that they can't
the other team can't have the ball. When you played
against Kansas City, you just continue to matriculate the ball
down the field and just chip away, chip away, chip away,
chip away, the point where they just don't have the
ball enough to win the game. That is what you
have to do with the run game, and days like

(23:51):
this will happen. You're gonna play short. You find ways
to make it work. And they literally almost found a
way to make it work without any sort of a
run game outside of Josh Allen. But again, when you
try to look at these games and say, okay, it
was a tough loss, it was a close loss. What
can they learn from this to be better? And normally
this Bill's defense can adjust, there was no adjustment on Sunday.

(24:12):
Everything the Bills defense threw was it was like a
wet paperbag. I mean yeah again, bouncing down to the defense, John,
the Bills allowed the Rams to be eleven for fifteen
on third down and one for one on fourth down.
You literally make a stop or two on one of
those third downs and then you get the ball back,

(24:33):
you get an extra possession, you could win this game.
Like That's that's what I'm saying when I tell you
earlier on in the podcast, when I say, yeah, Sean
mcdermottrobably shouldn't called that time out, But guess what you
shouldn't have been in that situation in the first place.
That's what I mean. The Rams were eleven for fifteen
on third down, and then one of those third downs
that the Bills stopped them, the Rams went fro an
on fourth down and were successful. So again you're like, well, damn,

(24:57):
what do we do now? So again, the defense needed
to be better. They have not looked that bad in
a very long time. But the offense stepped it up
and was able to make a game of it, which
is fantastic because, again the tone on my end of
the podcast, John would have been a lot worse had
the Buffalo Bills not come back and made it a

(25:17):
two point loss. I mean, if this twenty one to
forty four or whatever, you might be like, hey, pump
the brakes. But I told you and Chris, I'm gonna
call my shot. I know they're playing Detroit and know
I don't want to jump around here. I don't know
how I see this, Bills. If this offense is this
good and plays this well for the rest of the season,
I don't see how they lose again. I would one

(25:38):
hundred percent agree with you.

Speaker 3 (25:40):
Really, I The only way that I could see them
realistically losing if this offense plays as good as they
do is if the defense matches how poorly they played,
you know what I mean in comparison allowing you allowing
more points to be scored. If they're facing a high
powered offense like that and the defense can not stop them,

(26:01):
that would be the only way that I could see
Buffalo losing out losing again. And you know, this was
not We've discussed this before, and we've said that we
feel Buffalo plays up or plays down to their opponents.

Speaker 1 (26:14):
I don't think this was a case of that at all.

Speaker 3 (26:16):
I think this was more a case of Buffalo's offense
showed up, and you know, really Josh Allen showed up. Josh,
you could tell Josh wanted this for reasons. You know
that maybe personal to him. It had to be for
the LA But you know, because it's just the l
A Rams, there's not really a major tie in you know,

(26:38):
between hell, the the La Rams and the Buffalo Bills,
other than maybe a Super Bowl matchup down the road.
But he wanted this for some reason. And and that's
the kind of Josh Allen we're going to need to see, unfortunately,
I feel, in the playoffs, especially if the defense kind
of comes up the way that they did, which was

(26:59):
often and the short end of the stick.

Speaker 1 (27:03):
Yeah, and I mean, looking at it, it's it's it's
it's tough because you don't ever want to waste a
performance like this. But also remember the Rams are despite
their seven and six record now, they are very good.
They're very talented. That offense healthy is wow, Like Matt
Stafford is a is a great quarterback. They've got Cooper Cup,

(27:25):
They've got Pooka Nakua, They've got Kyrin Williams. Oh yeah,
they're they're they're good. They're they're good put.

Speaker 3 (27:31):
Together, they're they're a good team, you know, and and
of course coached up very well. Guy that's been uh
in Sean McVay, that's been to two Super Bowls and
one and one in each you know, one on one record.
He's I mean, they're the Rams are not uh, the
Rams are not the Jets. You know, they're not the Jags.
They're They're a pretty good team. They're in a competitive

(27:51):
division out west, and it could go any you know,
don't let the record fool you, as you appropriately said, yes,
because the division out there is pretty pretty competitive.

Speaker 1 (28:03):
I am going to roll back real quick, just to
finish up the offense here. Seven different players recorded at
least one target on Sunday. Again, played without tight end
Dalton Kincaid, who was a participant all last week in
practice with a knee. We talked about it and the
trusts the text message chain that the Bills. Someone on
on social media had pointed out the Bills how they've
done it is normally they have a player to a

(28:25):
full week of practice, sit out the game, and then
do another full week and then come back. Looks like
that's going to be the case for Kincaid. Keim Coleman
also did not play on Sunday with his wrist injury,
but looks to be close. I'm scrolling through Twitter to
catch injury updates as we record here, so I will
passes along at the appropriate time of the podcast. Wide
receiver Marik Cooper six receptions on fourteen targets for ninety

(28:45):
five yards. He looks healthy. He looks like he's going
to be a problem down the stretch for opposing defense
as Cooper surpassed ten thousand scrimmag yards in his career,
becoming the one hundred and nineteen player in NFL history
to reach the milestone. Nine nine hundred and sixty seven
of those yards are via recept. With thirty three more
receiving yards, Cooper would become the fifty seventh player in
NFL history with ten thousand plus receiving yards in a career. Also,

(29:07):
Khalil Shakir five receptions and eight targets for one hundred
and six yards. He recorded his third touchdown reception of
the season, a new career high. It's also his fourth
career game with one hundred plus yards, becoming the twenty
second player in franchise history with four such career games.
As mentioned, wrapping up the defense and special teams, I mean,
sheish this sucked. The one thing we didn't talk about

(29:28):
the blocked punt return for a touchdown. First block punt
return for a touchdown against Buffalo. Since September twelfth, twenty
twenty one, LA must have seen something on tape because
Reed Ferguson and that offensive line got absolutely steamrolled and
they got to the ball and blocked it and returned
it for a touchdown, And looking at it again, there
were many different things that could have been a turning

(29:48):
point in the game, that potentially being one of them.
And again the Rams when they got the ball, they scored,
so who knows. But again, special teams needs to be better.
You can't have that happening, especially when you get closer
to the playoffs, or get into the playoffs where every
possession is that much more important kick.

Speaker 3 (30:05):
Or you get to a point where you're playing a
team like you're about to play.

Speaker 1 (30:08):
Yeah. Kicker Tyler Bass six for six on pats hundred
points for the fifth straight season, matching Steve Christie for
the longest streaking team Mystery, who also had five straight
seasons of one hundred plus points from ninety two to
ninety six. Bass is also the third Buffalo kicker in
franchise history with five plus seasons of one hundred plus points,
joining Steve Christy at eight, Ryan Lindell at six. John
With that being said, I am going to take the

(30:32):
biggest gasp of air. Yes, you sit here first and
take some drink some water while you're at it too.
Holy Yeah, I'm gonna sit here in silence for a
few minutes while we take our commercial break here on
Trust the Podcast Stick Around. We'll be back with more

just work with me. Here the Holy jack Wagon Chris
Downey for Around the NFL.

Speaker 1 (32:17):
Take it away, Chris.

Speaker 4 (32:19):
Thanks, Ryan and John. Here's your Week fourteen recap from
around the NFL. The Detroit Lions their second consecutive Thursday game,
beating the Green Bay Packers Thursday Night Football thirty four
to thirty one lines, improved at twelve and one and
remain at top of the NFC standings. Minnesota put up
forty two points behind Sam Darnold's five touchdown day and

(32:39):
nearly three hundred and fifty yards passing forty two to
twenty one victory over the Atlanta Falcons to move to
eleven and two on the year, but still trailing the
Detroit Lions by a game and sitting fifth the NFC playoffs,
simply atop the wild card but not atop the NFC
North Tampa Bay twenty eight to thirteen over the Raiders

(33:00):
Pittsburgh and then AFC North Battle twenty seven to fourteen
over the Cleveland Browns, and that's a big one. Pittsburgh
improves the ten and three, which is tied for a
second excuse me, tied for second in the AFC. The
Buffalo Bill is the Bill still holding on the second
place due to tiebreakers, you know, but Pittsburgh has a
little bit tougher stretch down the line, Buffalo a little

(33:22):
bit easier. We'll get into that. Monday Night Football the
Bengals twenty seven twenty winners over the Dallas Cowboys in
Jerry World, Joe Burrow three hundred and sixty nine yards
passing in three touchdowns and Lady Luck, she must have
a mansion in Kansas City, because the Chiefs keep finding

(33:43):
ways to win when it doesn't seem like it's going
to happen. Nineteen seventeen winners over the LA Chargers on
Sunday Night Football, six to three score in the fourth quarter,
including a game winning field with that doink off the
left upright. Kansas City yet again finds another win to win.
They now sit at twelve and one at top of

(34:03):
the AFC. Two games I had a Buffalo despite the
Bills being their lone loss. The Bills with four games
left trail by two, but with the tiebreaker, things could happen.
All right, Now, let's take a look. Let's take a
look at what each team has ahead. I know John
and Ryan are probably gonna talk about this a little
bit in some capacity, but it's fun to take a
look here around the NFL segment. Pittsburgh with four games

(34:26):
left in the regular season, they travel to Philly, travel
to Baltimore, battle of the Birds back to back, and
they close out at home against Kansas City and Cincinnati.
None of those games are easy. None of those games
are going to be easy for them. As you know,
they could go oh to four, one and three. Bengals
with Joe Burrow could be hot bunny in the year,
who knows. Kansas City with Lady Luck on their side,

(34:48):
and Philly and Baltimore are always tough outs. So as
Buffalo looks old on the two seed, that's what they
have in Pittsburgh now in Kansas City as they're trying
to chase down to the one seed. Kinnessity travels to Cleveland,
they host Houston, but then they finished the season at
Pittsburgh and at Denver. You know, there could be a
couple of losses built into there. You don't know which

(35:09):
way you wanted to swing with that Pittsburgh game. Now
is Pittsburgh is tied and Buffalo's two back is Buffalo
as I sure, like I said, John and Ryan I'm
talking about, they travel to Detroit and they get three
AFC East matchups with a pair of games against New
England and the New York Jets. It's gonna be a
tight race down the line. As the Bills and Steelers
tied for second, but they hold two game lead over

(35:30):
the Texans and Ravens in the playoff seeding. Look at
the AFC East or excuse me, just the AFC playoff picture.
Kansas City, as we said, is at the top. Buffalo
is sitting in the second, two games back, Pittsburgh at third,
also at ten and three, Houston leading the ANFC South
at eight.

Speaker 5 (35:49):
And five, Baltimore, LA and the Broncos all at eight
and five, all in wild card spots, all with two
game leads over the on the bubble teams, if you will,
of Indianapolis and Miami.

Speaker 4 (36:05):
Looking at the NFC side, the Eagles second team in
the NFC to clinch a playoff berth. They are sitting
at eleven in two, one game back of Detroit, who's
at twelve and one. Seattle leading the NFC West at
eight and five. Tampa Bay jumps into the fourth seed
with their seven and six record, sitting a top of
the NFC South wildcard spots. The eleven and two Vikings,

(36:27):
nine and four Packers, three teams from the NFC North
are in the playoffs. As it stands today, then the
Commander is at eight and five, looking just on the outside.
The Rams, with their win over the Bills, are now
one game back of a wild card spot in the
NFC Falcons at six and seven a couple games back
of a wild card spot, but only one game back

(36:48):
of their division, then Arizona at six and seven, San
Francisco six and seven, and then a slew of teams
at five and eight or lower. This has been a
year round in the NFL. John and Ryan, back to.

Speaker 1 (37:00):
You and Chris, We thank you for that. Looking ahead
now another another another heavyweight battle for the Buffalo Bills.
Week fifteen, slugfest Buffalo at Detroit four to twenty five
pm on CBS John. It's the eleventh time in franchise
history Buffalo and their opponent each of ten plus wins

(37:21):
enduring the game. The second time it's happened against Detroit.
Last happened December twenty second, nineteen ninety one. A thirteen
and two Bills team faced off against an eleven and
four Detroit team and lost time. I remember in overtime.
I remember that game. I was two and a half
months old at the time I had.

Speaker 3 (37:40):
I was freshly, freshly minted eleven year old watching Barry Sanders.
I remember Barry Sanders and of course the uh casting
characters of those Bills teams. That was that was a
that was a good time man.

Speaker 1 (37:52):
In those ten previous games, Buffalo is seven and three
in such games and four and two on the road.
Hoping that continues on Sunday afternoon, buff Hello. The injury
bug continues to get better and get worse in certain situations.
First off, Ian Rappaport reported earlier today wide receiver key
On Coleman and tight end Dalton k and cad are
expected to practice fully today, a positive step forward in

(38:14):
advance of the showdown with the Lions defensive end Casey
two Hill Ribs will be limited. Russell Douglas with the knee,
Taylor Rapp of the neck will not practice today. That's
not good. Sean mcderwin says they'll be taking that a
day at a time. Again, also not great. But Bill's
defensive line Dwayne Smooth and linebacker Bale Inspector will both

(38:35):
have their twenty one day practice windows opening today, so
they will be able to return from the IR if
the Bills deem them fit.

Speaker 5 (38:44):
So.

Speaker 1 (38:45):
Looking at the Detroit Lions twelve and one, six and
one at home first in the NFC North last week,
a thirty four to thirty one win versus the Green
Bay Packers, I'm just going to run down the Detroit
Lions stats because they are unbelievable. Jared Goff quarterback and
sixty five passing, twenty five touchdowns, ten picks, five of
those coming in one game. A two headed monster at
running back Jumior Gibbs one hundred and seventy eight carries,

(39:07):
one thy sixteen yard ten rushing touchdowns with thirty four
receptions for three hundred and twelve yards and two receiving touchdowns.
David Montgomery one hundred and eighty carries for seven hundred
and seventy one yards and twelve rushing touchdowns, with thirty
two receptions for three hundred and ten yards and no
receiving touchdowns. The passing attack Aman Ross Saint Brown you
all should know him by now, eighty one receptions for
eight hundred and sixty three yards and nine touchdowns. Jamison

(39:29):
Williams thirty nine receptions for seven hundred and ten yards
and four touchdowns. He spreads the field, as you can
tell by the thirty nine to seven hundred and ten
statistic there. Defensively, though, John, the Detroit Lions feel like
a Buffalo Bill's team from a few years ago, where
they're really good, they're hitting their stride, you think they're
going to be a contender for the Super Bowl, and

(39:49):
then they cannot stop getting hurt defensively right now, well overall,
the Lions have eighteen players currently on the IR team.
Of those players are from the defense. Four of those
players were opening night starters, so again, goodness. They have
faced a lot of adversity defensively with injuries, but they're

(40:11):
still twelve and one. They're still the cream of the
crop in the NFC. Sure ESPN matchup Predictor, fifty seven
and a half percent of America believe Detroit will defend
their castle and four field, successfully handing up the Buffalo
Bills their second loss in a row. John, how do
you see it if?

Speaker 3 (40:29):
And only if? Because I think the offensively, with those
defensive woes of the Detroit Lions and their injury, I
think the offense is going to be good. Where Buffalo
needs to solve for is defensively, particularly against the team
that loves, loves, loves to go for it on fourth down.

(40:50):
And if they don't stop them on fourth down, because
Detroit plays four down for do all, they don't care
to punt, they'll put it. They'll punch you in the
face and let you know that they're about to do that,
and then after they do it, they'll let you know
that they did that. That's Stan Campbell football. If the
Bills cannot solve for those kinds of trick plays and

(41:12):
those kinds of things, they will lose this game.

Speaker 1 (41:16):
Personally, I feel like.

Speaker 3 (41:17):
They will because of what we saw this this past
week with with La I think even in defeat, there
there's a bit of momentum that kind of carries with
how the offense performed. So I feel that offense will
kind of carry over, the momentum will be there. More

(41:39):
of Western New York will likely make the travel to
Detroit because it's closer than LA. Detroit is kind of
like a second home to Buffalo, and in many ways,
snowstorms and things like that that maybe close. The close
high Mark Detroit Ford Field is where they go. So
I think that the Bills have a a better advantage

(42:03):
I think physically and mentally being playing in Detroit then
maybe playing in LA.

Speaker 1 (42:09):
They still did well in LA.

Speaker 3 (42:11):
I think it's going to translate here in Detroit. I
think they're going to win in a close one. I
don't know the score yet, but I can't say that
it'll be in the foury point range. But I wouldn't
be surprised if it would be either a very high
scoring contest. I'll say thirty five thirty three Buffalo.

Speaker 1 (42:29):
While we have talked about in the past Kansas City
and Buffalo being a potential AFC Championship game preview, this
is a legit potential Super Bowl preview.

Speaker 3 (42:42):
Yeah, not only this is the Super Bowl America once.

Speaker 1 (42:45):
But the betting favorite to be the super Bowl matchup.

Speaker 3 (42:48):
Yes, you see those memes that you know, I saw
one the other day and it would be so it
would be. It's one of those things where you can
see it actually happening and being true and being like, oh,
where it's at the super Bowl? America wants it's Buffalo
over Buffalo Detroit and it says the super Bowl we're
likely going to get and it's gonna be Kansas City
and Philadelphia.

Speaker 1 (43:07):
Yeah, that's fair. I don't disagree with that, and that's
it sucks, but that is that it does.

Speaker 3 (43:13):
So get your get your chicken wings ready, get your
I mean, I'm gonna even break out my bills Vandana
on Sunday. Also mean picture of me in it and
send it to you, right, so so you have proof.
But we'll be doing chicken wings. I'm gonna be treating
this like the super Bowl. I I I expect to
be royally entertained these two teams just overall watching them individually,

(43:38):
they're they're they're entertaining to watch well, regardless of how
you feel about Detroit and maybe are they beginning to
make the deal with the devil that the same devil
that the Chiefs are making. You know, argue, it depends
on where you are on that. But overall, Detroit plays
and Detroit plays entertaining football, so does Buffalo. You put
those two together, it's appointment tele and get your chicken

(44:01):
wings ready, get your popcorn ready, and uh and.

Speaker 1 (44:05):
Go to go frost yourself. A stay bigh that you
may have done something that you may be a marketing
genius with them.

Speaker 4 (44:13):
Man.

Speaker 3 (44:13):
Uh you know what sometimes, man, when I go into
stick mode and JC money comes out. When I do
these things, you never know, man, You never know what happens.

Speaker 1 (44:23):
Having having watched a lot of Detroit. Because again, I mean,
I can go back and look at my fantasy football
the wolf and Center Football League, which John I'm the
second seed by six points. A little salty about that?

Speaker 3 (44:32):
Sure, are you make the same you make the deal
with the devil in the Wolfensteiner Football League that Mahomes
makes in the National Football League.

Speaker 1 (44:40):
I cannot I cannot apologize for being very good at
being able to draft talent and understand what wins championships.

Speaker 3 (44:47):
Brother, But but that being your your Wolfensteiner Football League was
the league that I was like everywhere else I did
well except for that one year, that one glorious year
where I won the where I won the Chip and uh.

Speaker 1 (45:00):
In Wolf and Ciner Football League.

Speaker 3 (45:01):
But every year else that I was thereafter, I don't
know what it was, man, something about that league just
wasn't jiving with me. I was always bottom of the
barrel there, but always top everywhere else.

Speaker 1 (45:12):
Is really weird. I'm gonna have to go do the
research and get back to you because I'm not currently
signed in. But I have had aman Ross Saint Brown
on my fantasy football team for numerous years now, so
I try to keep an eye on on Detroit because
I enjoy watching him play football and it's been fun
to watch him become a superstar. But that being said,

(45:34):
Detroit is a very scary team. They play. They take
no prisoners. They are fearless. They are not afraid to
make a mistake because they don't really often make mistakes,
and if they do, they rally around it, as you
saw in the Texans game or golf through five interceptions
and they still won. YEP. I mean it all depends
to me how Buffalo comes out defensively. Are they going

(45:54):
to continue to be shell shocked? Are there going to
be some changes. Are there going to be some differences,
especially like if Taylor Rap can't play, does that mean
Michael Hyde is going to make a season debut. I
have no idea. If if Rasul Douglas can't play, is
it going to be kyr Elamer Is it going to
be JaMarcus Ingram? I don't know, but that makes a
big difference. Again, so just just you know, hopefully you

(46:14):
would you would look to see some more rallying around themselves,
some more accountability to defensively because you look at the
performance that Josh Hallen had on Sunday and those guys
got to feel like absolute crap because you wasted a
historical performance on a game that you you probably should
have won. But that is that is the past. Looking

(46:36):
looking towards the Detroit Lions now, I think the first
team that blinks and makes them makes a mistake, whether
it is a fumble, loss or a pick or anything
like that, he's a turnover. I think that will be
the difference. Because again, it's it's either gonna be I
I don't It's either gonna be a last week of

(46:57):
forty four forty two, or it's gonna be like thirteen
to ten. I don't think there's any any either. Both
teams are gonna be so locked in that they're not
gonna be able to get anything done, or they're just
gonna be free flying and it's gonna be another really
fun game to watch. But I really feel like Buffalo
maybe locked in a little more offensively. I feel my worst. Ye, yes,

(47:22):
but all yeah.

Speaker 3 (47:23):
I wouldn't be surprised, honestly, I wouldn't sleep on the
defense for Buffalo coming in with a chip on their shoulder,
knowing they gave up forty five and and are like,
you know, f this man, We're not gonna do this again.

Speaker 1 (47:36):
Josh Allen will show the league again in my opinion,
why he is the MVP. I've got the Buffalo Bills
winning forty one to thirty eight around. Okay, so we go.

Speaker 3 (47:48):
So we've got the We've got the We both of
us at least agree it's gonna be It should be
a close.

Speaker 1 (47:53):
Game, I think, so. I don't seen you watch.

Speaker 3 (47:58):
It be a defensive battle and it's like seven to six.

Speaker 1 (48:02):
Three to three to six, like that that Cleveland Brown
three to three to two. Someone got a safety. It's
three again, Either way.

Speaker 4 (48:10):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (48:11):
We will be here, same time, same place next week.
The Buffalo Bills announced today as well earlier today, that
they have confirmed the addition of ten limited partners to
the ownership group with the first time in franchise history,
which tells me Terry Bagoula probably broke, but maybe you should,
uh pay attention to your hockey team. That's a different podcast.
It's a different podcast.

Speaker 3 (48:28):
We can restore the Saber cast with you and someone
else that watches the Sabers for that one here.

Speaker 1 (48:32):
Well, yeah, that'll be Brighton, but Brayton can do it.
But him and I when we text about the Sabers, man,
we are just it's it's bad.

Speaker 3 (48:39):
So it's like reverse trust the podcast.

Speaker 1 (48:41):
Yeah, yeah, it's just misery. But John, before we go, Yes,
let's fire up Berman real quick here.

Speaker 4 (48:47):
No one circles the wagons like the Buffalo Bills.

Speaker 1 (48:52):
For John Somino and Chris Downey. I am Ryan Wolf.
As always, we are trust the podcast. You're not. We
will catch you, same time, same place next week as always,
my friends. Thanks for tuning in and go Bills. Shout
out y'all.
