Speaker 2 (00:03):
The following is a presentation of the Gear Radio Network.

Speaker 3 (00:10):
I believe it's a big challenge for our building to
keep things in perspective and to if we're going to
get addicted to anything, let's get addicted to the process.

Speaker 2 (00:21):
And with that we welcome to Trust the podcast powered
by Better Live than Dead end the Gear Radio Network.

Speaker 1 (00:25):
This yere is episode one seventy, Episode one seven zero
My Baby's Buffalo Bills versus the Denver Broncos. In the
wild card name super it's Super Wildcard Weekend. Yeah, Super
wild Card Weaker.

Speaker 2 (00:43):
Which is interesting because then the divisional round is just
the boring division round.

Speaker 1 (00:47):
But we'll talk about that shortly. I don't I don't think.
I don't think. I don't think the divisional round is
going to be boring Sunday at six thirty. But I
could be wrong.

Speaker 2 (00:54):
No, it's not gonna be boring at all. But Hey,
I'm Ryanwolf at Better Live than Dead dot com Bluekie,
joined by as always Johnson you know at I AMJC
money on threads and at IMJC money dot bskuy dot.

Speaker 1 (01:05):
Social on blue Sky. John. How you doing, buddy? How's
it going? I I am doing currently right now in
a in a walking boot on my over my right foot.
I don't I didn't really injure it. I didn't really
injure it at wrestling, but it was probably because of
the shoes that I was wearing at the GCW show

(01:25):
this past Friday at Water Street Music Hall. I went
there and I went there right after the normal nine
to five, so I was in my loafers and it
was standing room only. Where I was standing, I was
kind of with some of the other local and surrounding
area wrestle congregation that was there. Local school was helping
out with ring crew, and a buddy of mine happens

(01:47):
to be in production there and invited me. So I
came in, I got in through the back, met a
few of the people, and then just had a good
time there. And it was a great time. But because
of the shoes that I was wearing, I think that
probably had something to do with it. And then of
course it was amplified the very next day I had
a UPW show where I was wrestling on it. So

(02:10):
I just think the impact of that and and and uh,
of course the the wrestling and then just walking on it,
putting weight on it. Might be a little overused. So
I'm I'm doing the I'm doing what any normal, any
good football player would do in a situation like this,
is more protecting anything than anything, keeping it elevated. But

(02:31):
aside from that, pretty well, how you doing, buddy, that's
a fair man. I'm hanging in there.

Speaker 4 (02:35):
You know.

Speaker 2 (02:35):
It's it's getting colder. It feels like it's the dog
days of winter coming up. It's going to be pretty
damn cold here the next few weeks.

Speaker 1 (02:42):
But hey, in that crea, we're closer to the we're
closer to spring football. Well, I mean we're just closure
to spring.

Speaker 2 (02:49):
But yeah, yes, I mean looking at this but looking
in western New York, Man where the sunsets after five pm,
which is a nice uh a nice watermark to get
back above. But you know, again, it's going to be
the wind chills next week's Yeah, it's perfect.

Speaker 1 (03:06):
It's got all between the holidays and and really baseball,
the start of baseball season for me, and it's perfect.
It's kind of like that that lull where it's just like, eh.

Speaker 2 (03:18):
Jump over to our rundown. Despite what felt like a
slow star John Buffalo handles business and defeats Denver Broncos
thirty one to seven on Super wild Card Weekend.

Speaker 1 (03:26):
It's crazy.

Speaker 2 (03:28):
It's the third largest playoff victory margin in franchise history.
And the only offense that Denver really had was an
opening drive touchdown, which we'll talk about here shortly. But
it didn't really feel like and we can jump into
our three big things here, it didn't really feel like
there was a lot happening. And then next thing, you know,
game is clearly in hand. Now, yes, it's it's been

(03:50):
a thing that Buffalo has done a little lately, but
also at the same time, it works, so I'm not
gonna complain.

Speaker 1 (03:57):
Sure, I mean, it certainly didn't seem like there was
after that first touchdown a level of urgency. I didn't
really see a whole it just it it very much
for Super wild Card Weekend. That game in particular, felt
like a traditional one pm Sunday game on CBS that

(04:18):
really had no meaning. Like it was. It was very
clear to me that the Bills, that the Bills were
the superior team, and it almost felt like based on
their game plan, and I know the score indicates a
large disparity between the two, but it was an incremental
build throughout the game, and I almost feel like they

(04:39):
were pacing themselves as if to say they are saving
themselves and the full onslaught for this week now that
we're going to be approaching.

Speaker 2 (04:50):
So are three Big Things brought to you by Buffalogo.

be sure to use the code trust the process for

Speaker 1 (05:25):
I know, I'm ryan how much off of the purchase?

Speaker 2 (05:30):
Fifteen percent that's Buffalogo. Yeah, and I want to say
I have made my purchase. I'm waiting very excitedly for
my new Josh Allen T shirt to come to the
mail and make sure to share it when we Oh yeah,
when it comes.

Speaker 1 (05:45):
The new t shirts, shout out to you and hook up.
Let me just tell you I took the picture, and
first of all, I recorded a wrestling promo while wearing
my Trust the Podcast sweater, which is awesome and comfortable,
and believe it or not, I'm wearing it right now

(06:05):
as we're recording because it's cold. It's cold down here.
But I took the picture with the Buffalo Bill's headband
that I have, the Junk brand headband that I have,
saying hey, this is my rooting you know, reiterating, this
is my rooting interest for the playoffs now that you
know the other team is out of it and and
you know we're here, and you know, it feels right.

(06:28):
Vibes are immaculate, as you s you said, and I've said,
this is my rooting interest, and you know, more often
than not, most of the Bill's mafia was very very
welcoming throughout the throughout the year. And then once I,
you know, displayed the Trust the Podcast thing, and they're now,
you know, and they're all like, oh, the colors look
great on you, man, colors look great on you, which

(06:49):
I agree. I do agree that the blue definitely brings
out the tan, the winter tan that I have. You know,
but there are some in the mafia. I won't name names,
but they were a little less than you know, inviting,
and it was very They can get, they can get bent,

(07:10):
they can get like. It's like I looked at that
and oh, yeah, no, you're jumping on the wagon. Where
were you seventeen years ago? And I'm thinking, brother, where
were you during the Kelly era? Oh, you weren't born yet.
One thing that I was in a Buffalo fans.

Speaker 2 (07:26):
One thing that Buffalo fans don't often do is gatekeep.
So when people do gatekeep, they can they can get ben.

Speaker 1 (07:32):
Yeah. No, I've times mafia any any of the bills
mafia that I have, I've come to know. I feel
like they've they've been, you know, actively recruiting me for
forty years, saying, well, your spots here if you want,
when you're ready. You know, I've been trying with the
podcast for seven years now. Brother, I've been looking.

Speaker 2 (07:48):
At if you're going, even if you still root for
the Jets, it's good to have you on board at least.

Speaker 1 (07:54):
No, I enjoy it, and you know what, the community,
The community is better. Of course, being living here in
this in this area certainly helps and I've always said,
and Ryan, you can back me up on this, I've
always said that when the Bills do well, the area
is just better. Overall. They're a lot nicer. Yeah, people

(08:15):
are a lot nicer. People are strangers are walcome by
Go bills, Go bills, you know what I mean. And
it brings the camaraderie that I can only describe as
being a Western new York thing. Those you know, when
Western new Yorkers really tend to stick together. It's why
you go and you find bills backer bars everywhere that
there is, you know, a colonization of Western new Yorkers

(08:38):
that have relocated, you know.

Speaker 2 (08:40):
What I mean, or even not even there are there
are some places that are just they're just Bills fans.
Because again we've talked about this before, but the bills
were good when people you know, my age and really John,
even your age too. You're our parents in people that
are our parents' age. They grew up in the area
with the bills, and then it passed is that on

(09:00):
and then the kids become Bills fans and so on
and so forth, and absolutely, it's it's just it's it's
it's fun to see because even when the bills were
not good. You still heard a lot about that, but
you hear a lot about it now because it's it's
celebrated more, which is fantastic.

Speaker 1 (09:14):
Yeah. Of course, with a sensationalization of media and social
media and everything, you know, everything is magnified. But there
is a and and for those listening outside of the
parameters of Buffalo Rochester, and we have listeners all over
the United States and even in some parts of the world.
So thank you all first of all for listening. But
anybody that's a Western New Yorker or a native Western

(09:36):
new Yorker can agree. I feel that there is a
special camaraderie with those of us at that that live
here in this area, in our festivals and our minor
league teams and our Major League teams and things like that.
Like there's a great camaraderie that it just comes having

(09:56):
lived here. So experiencing something like this with a vibe
for the Buffalo Bills are immaculate. As again, as you
have articulated very well, it's a really cool time to
be just here and taking it all in. It's a
really really good time, and especially with you know, perhaps
what may be coming a minimum for the next four years.

(10:17):
Anything good is good.

Speaker 2 (10:20):
I mean, I walked into the local gas station to
get myself a Celsius prior to the game, to get
myself real hyped up. Had to tone Bill's gear. Lady
says to me. Older lady says to me, Hey, I
like your outfit. I said, hell yeah, go bills like
it is a way of life around here.

Speaker 1 (10:33):
Man.

Speaker 2 (10:33):
It is a hello goodbye go bills like that is
that is That's what I love about it so much
because it travels, and I rather it began so much
absolutely wrapping up the offense here, it felt like Josh
Allen had a quiet day, which is insane to say
when you think twenty for twenty six, two hundred and
seventy two passing yards, two touches, eight cares for forty

(10:55):
six yards our history of the NFL segment with Josh
Allen finishes the game with twenty three career postseason passing touchdowns,
surpassing Jim Kelly for the most all time in franchise history.
Jim Kelly In twenty one, Alan's career playoff interception percentage
drops to zero point nine to nine excuse me, which
is four interceptions in four hundred and four attempts, the

(11:15):
fifth lowest in NFL history with a minimum of one
hundred and fifty attempts. Alan also tied Peyton Manning, Joe Montana,
and Kurt Warner for the most postseason games all time
at three each with a one hundred and thirty five
plus passer rating, and also with six hundred career six
hundred and nine career postseason rushing yards, Allan surpassed Steve
Young with five ninety four and Lamar Jackson at six

(11:37):
oh two for the most career rushing yards by a
quarterback in the NFL postseason all time. Obviously, that one's
going to go back and forth, but right now, going
into the game Sunday, Josh Allen is the all time
career postseason rushing yard leader when it comes to being
a quarterback. So again we will uh well, we'll see
how that develops. But again, just just doing doing exactly

(11:59):
what John needed to do on Sunday is what got
the Bills. I mean again, we we continue to see
the maturation and the growth of Josh Allen where it's
there's no panic.

Speaker 1 (12:12):
It's it's yes, I know what he used to do.

Speaker 2 (12:17):
Yeah, I I know that if there's a checkdown available,
I'm taking a check down. I know, if there's a
if I extend the play and the guy opens up,
I'm going to that guy. Like it's not just a
hero ball arm punt situation.

Speaker 1 (12:29):
It's it's yeah.

Speaker 2 (12:31):
Everything is is schemed up and thought out so that
way Josh can be as successful as possible, which is
exactly what we saw on Sunday afternoon.

Speaker 1 (12:39):
Right and that and that flip, that switch really flipped
when Joe Brady took over his offensive coordinator last year.
That not to say that he was that Josh wasn't
good or on the path to where he is now,
but it almost seems like it was accelerated once that
switch was made and they incorporated more of the running,
the running and the and the and the checkdown plays

(13:00):
where before they were not doing it was more of
the punt, you know, arm punt or Josh Allen takes
that it takes the ball. Now with that the with
Rady's scheme opening everything up there, it really opened up
a lot for Josh Allen and you could just see how,
you know, the swag now that he that he has
the confidence that he has going in there he's not,
you know, wearing his emotions on his face or on

(13:23):
his sleeve like he used to. When we think back
to the Hale Murray game, right, and it was very
very noticeable like he was rattled and it looked like
it and he played like it. You don't see that anymore.
Like this dude, whatever it is, he's he's figured it out.
His game has completely changed. His demeanor has changed for

(13:46):
the better, not for the worse. His his leadership skills
have changed, his commitment has changed, and as a result
of all of that, his stats have changed for the better.
And and where before, you know, maybe last year, the year,
the year before that, you could you could make an
argument about, you know, well, Josh Allen should get MVP consideration.

(14:06):
Like to me, it's it's only down to a two
person race only because Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens
are also doing very very well. And that's but to me,
based on just the growth that I've seen and just
how Josh Allen has been this year and what he's

(14:29):
meant to this team, again, greater than eighty percent of
the offensive production comes from him, and they're in this
position that is MVP caliber that is something that you
just cannot like, you can't pass up on that, you
know what I mean. He's done a tremendous job of

(14:52):
getting this team past the whole rebuild quotes in air
year that this was supposed to be and turn this
into a holy crap, this really could be the year,
you know. So kudos to him and kudos to the
entire staff for just keeping to the game plan, keeping focused,
and keeping the Golden Site well.

Speaker 2 (15:15):
Coming into the game, we also knew that running back
James Cook would be very important, and he was. I
mean twenty three cares for one hundred and twenty yards
and one rushing touchdown. Became the first player at the
top one hundred rushing yards in a playoff game since
Hall of Famer Thurman Thomas at one hundred and fifty
eight rushing yards versus Miami on December thirtieth, nineteen ninety five.
Buffalo moves to eight and one all time in the

(15:36):
playoffs when a player tops one hundred rushing yards. Also,
this is kind of a backwards way of putting it,
but Cook's opening touchdown for Buffalo broke a four game
streak for tight end Dawson Knox who had scored Buffalo's
first touchdown in the last four straight postseason games, becoming
the only player in NFL history to score the first

(15:56):
touchdown for a team in four consecutive wild card games.
No pun intended here, pretty wild stat Also, eight players,
eight different players, recorded at least one target on Sunday.
Wide receiver Curtis Samuel and his NFL playoff debut, had
three receptions on three targets for sixty eight yards and
one receiving touchdown. Josh Allen on Curtis Samuel postgamesaid quote,

(16:18):
I'll speak on behalf of Curtis. He probably didn't have
the season he wanted to have, but he just continued
to work hard. And that's kind of the mentality we've
had all year, because everybody eats and today was his day,
and that is what I absolutely love. Or again, looking
at Khalil Shakir, he had six receptions on six targets
for sixty one yards, but because Brandon Codrington was out

(16:41):
with a hamstring injury, Khalil Shakir filled in on the
pun game. He had two returns for thirty yards. He
had a twenty three yard long return. Again finding ways
for guys to step up. Everybody eats, but everybody steps
up as well. Running Back Ky Johnson had nine carries
for forty four yards and two receptions on two targets
for twenty six yards and receiving touchdown on his touchdown

(17:03):
catchdown the play that never dies. It's it's funny because
I'm gonna make this about myself really quick, if you'll
let me. I personally have mentioned to a group of
friends that two fifty four, I'm just like you know,
I love what Ty Johnson's all about. What he does
for the team. He always steps up when he's called upon.

Speaker 1 (17:17):
Just a dog. Just well, we'll hit you in the mouth.

Speaker 2 (17:21):
Five minutes later, Ty Johnson scores his incredible touchdown that
he scored on Sunday. According to Next Gen Stats, it
had a fifteen point six percent completion probability, and Ti
Johnson became the tenth different receiver to score a touchdown
or to receive a touchdown from Josh Allen his postseason career.
Those three guys just again stepping up when you're called upon,

(17:47):
or I can even say four guys, because Keyon Coleman
only had one reception on three targets for five yards.
But recorded the third successful two point conversion in franchises
playoff history. John Tracy did it in Buffalo's first ever
playoff game, first Boston versus the Boston Patriots on December twenty,
nineteen sixty three, and Stefan Diggs also did it at
Kansas City on January twenty third, twenty twenty two. But

(18:10):
these four guys now, when called upon, step up, I mean,
Curtis Samuel john We've talked about it like, whoof man,
what a bright What just an awful year for a
guy who was supposed to come in and had really
high expectations, but when called upon in the playoffs, stepped
up and stepped out. Ty Johnson a a second or

(18:31):
third string running back depending on who you ask, when
called upon, steps up, steps out. Khalil Shakira has been
there all year. Kean Coleman when he's been on the
field for not not dealing with his wrist injury, same thing,
when called upon, steps up and steps out. I'm I'm
just saying this because I'm not I'm not trying to
be hyperbolic here. No matter what happens on Sunday against

(18:54):
the Ravens, this season is marking a shift I feel
like in the in the Buffalo Bills vibes department, I
guess is the best way to put it. This team
feels different. They have a different attitude. It's not it's
it's not me against the world, it's us against the world.
And I think Sunday really showed that as well.

Speaker 1 (19:15):
I think so. And usually when you look back over
the annals of time and you see the teams that
are consistently on top and consistently, you know, playing to
the level like this where they either are super Bowl contenders, perennials,
super Bowl contenders, close to it, in a dynasty mode
or whatever, those teams usually operate very similar and have

(19:37):
the very similar mindset of next man up, and everybody
does the part. You know, it's always, you know, you
always want to be able to say, oh, yeah, I'm
the greatest of all time. I have the great I
have all the stats I get, you know, Mike Williams
Tampa Bay, for example, eleven straight seasons, a thousand yards
like personal achievements and things like that. Sometimes that falls

(19:58):
into your favor right other times it may not. What
you're seeing with this Buffalo Bills team is usually on
par with like what you've seen with some of those
New England Patriots teams, where it's been it was about
the it was about the team. It was about the
team effort, it was about the team dynamic, the team unity.
It wasn't about individual personal statistics. You saw what's his name,

(20:21):
Amari Cooper when he was traded here, and he was
that one game that he wasn't targeted at all, or
or maybe may been targeted very little, but didn't contribute
at all, and he was like, Hey, you know what,
I've had my chance to do all these things. I'm
in a winning program. Now I'm here to help. And
that's the type of mentality you need for sustaining success.

(20:41):
There is not one, not one past MVP that hasn't
said and one point or another that they would trade
in all of their personal accolades for a team championship.
And I would have to imagine Josh Allen feels the
exact same way. Even if he wins the m v P.
I don't think that's it for him. He's gonna he's

(21:03):
not gonna be like, oh got my MVP. Whoo, finally,
off I go. He'll be like, yeah, okay, cool, awesome,
story I want. I want the Lombardy and and I
mean that you need as a team, you need that
in that leadership role. Josh Allen has that. It clearly
shows with everybody else I would agree with that.

Speaker 2 (21:22):
I mean, again, looking at this team, it continues to
be next man up, it continues to be again. Ray
Davis goes down with a concussion. Ty Johnson gets a
little bit bigger of a role, perfectly fine. Like again,
it's not there's no there's no surprise, there's no drop

(21:42):
off of tay. Where we live as a team, we
die as a team, and it's becoming it's very fun
to watch, especially I mean with the with the with
the perspective matchups coming up. My mouse just stopped working.
I'm trying to scroll down on our on our thing
and now it's there we go. Nope, okay, let me
just refresh this really quick.

Speaker 1 (22:01):
There we go. Okay, I was broken for a second.
Now it's fixed.

Speaker 2 (22:05):
Seeing what Buffalo did on Sunday again, it's a it's
a team effort. They scored on six of their first
seven drives. Buffalo outpossessed Denver forty one minutes and forty
three seconds to Denver's eighteen minutes.

Speaker 1 (22:18):
In seven seven. I mean just that's that's a that's
a Python like squeeze. You know, that's what they managed
the game and were able to not only control the
time of possession but score just about every single time
they had that. So that's where you know the thirty

(22:39):
one to seven score, right, was that what we said
it was? I can't remember. Thirty seven. Thirty one to
seven on paper looks like it's a very very in
it is. It's a sizable difference, but it's not like blowout.
It's not rookie mode on Madden where you're where you
put all thirty two points up or thirty one points
up in the first two minutes of the game and
then you're just cruising. No, they were just cruising very incrementally,

(23:02):
very very meticulous, very you know, not cautious, but you
know they were keeping a nice pace. They knew their pace,
they knew their game plan, and they perfectly executed it. Like,
there's not really much to write home about with how
the Bills performed offensively and defensively other than they hit

(23:25):
all of their targets. They did what they needed to do.
And now because of that they're playing host to Baltimore.
Total yards, Buffalo had four hundred and seventy one to
Denvers two hundred and twenty four. It's the fifth most
yards in a playoff game in franchise history. For Buffalo,
They're two hundred and ten total rushing yards are fourthmost
in a playoff game in franchise history. It's the second
time in franchise history where Buffalo has ran four and

(23:47):
through four two hundred plus yards each. They also did
it in the nineteen ninety AFC Championship game verst the Raiders.
The two hundred and twenty four yards allowed of the
fourth fewest allowed in a playoff game in franchise history,
and their plus two forty seven yardage was the biggest
in any postseason game in franchise history, the largest differential
since Carolina had plus three h eight versus Arizona.

Speaker 2 (24:09):
On January third, twenty fifteen. So again, an absolute, an absolute,
categorical just how cool is it?

Speaker 1 (24:18):
How cool is it to say? And I know this
may be thinking way way way far ahead here, Ryan,
but you know, ten years from now, fifteen years from now,
maybe perhaps the Bills may be in a bit of
a rebuild.

Speaker 5 (24:32):
Mo.

Speaker 1 (24:32):
It happens for everybody, and go through success, then you
go through law, right, But how cool is it to
be able to say, hey, we covered this in real time?
You know? Yeah, man, it's like just I'm I'm very unbelievable.
Every time I every time I do one of these
podcasts with you, and every time I put well, you know,

(24:52):
we put the posts out, we do this, we do that.
I tend to take a look and especially at the
end of it, after of every season that we do
and looking at the list of episodes that we've had,
one hundred and seventy of them and just seeing the
rise kind of even through just episode descriptions, seeing the

(25:12):
rise of what this team has become historically, it's been
unbelievable to watch and unbelievable to highlight it just this
and this adds more to that. So it's gonna be
wild because in ten fifteen years when we're doing this podcast,
we're gonna be comparing to something to this and and
we're hoping this version of the ride doesn't end. Oh yeah,

(25:36):
not anytime soon. I can't see it ending anytime soon.

Speaker 2 (25:39):
Before we mention the defense and special teams, we look
at it now first downs. Buffalo had twenty six first downs,
fourteen rushing first downs. Denver had thirteen total.

Speaker 1 (25:53):
Wow, it's just again, that's insane. That's Buffalo.

Speaker 2 (25:57):
Buffalo controlled the clock, Buffalo controlled the pace of play,
They controlled everything they possibly could to make sure that
they came out on top.

Speaker 1 (26:07):
That's a great segue though, when you talk about the
amount of first downs that Denver had overall in comparison,
because the second of the three big things focuses on
the defense, and the defense was absolutely spectacular.

Speaker 2 (26:23):
Yeah, and looking at the defense, wrapping up the defense
and special teams. Again, Buffalo mentioned it's all about attitude.

Speaker 1 (26:29):
Now.

Speaker 2 (26:30):
The first play, the first play of the game, well,
the first drive of the game, I would say, Denver
came through. Evelyn is making her appearance on the podcast. Hi,
Evelyn Denver pulled the top off of Buffalo's defense on
the opening drive. We talked about that, We had mentioned
that that was a possibility of happening.

Speaker 4 (26:53):
Hi.

Speaker 1 (26:55):
It's a hey, you know what, Welcome to Trust the podcast, Evelyn.
Pretty soon you're gonna be you can hosting it.

Speaker 2 (27:01):
So Rasul Douglas, Bill's cornerback, was asked after the game,
how do you guys keep a positive mindset. He said,
quote easy, easy, it's fifty eight more gate minutes left
in that game.

Speaker 1 (27:11):
We can't harp two minutes. You know what I mean.
You have a bad day for four minutes. Do you
say you had a whole bad day?

Speaker 2 (27:17):
You got twenty three more hours and some change to
change it. That's how we look at it.

Speaker 5 (27:21):
And that's a brilliant way of Josh that after the
opening drive touchdown, Denver went punt, punt, missfield goal, punt, punt,
and then three three and outs.

Speaker 2 (27:33):
There were one hundred yards allowed on twenty five plays
and sixty on the eight play drive. At the end
of the half they allowed zero points, which there was
one very loud ass dondinkin. I got so hyped about that,
not just because it was a misfield goal, but it
was a very good audio. I found the video online.

(27:53):
I was gonna try to clip the audio for the podcast.
Didn't come across as good as it did live on TV.
But still send me the video I may be able to.
I could, I could watch I could watch a Doink
compilation all day.

Speaker 1 (28:06):
Long, every single time. It doesn't matter what game it is,
doesn't matter what team it is. It doesn't matter who
does it. Every time I hear the doink it it freaking.
It triggers a laugh. It really doesn't give it excellent.
It's one of the funniest sounds and one of the
funniest reactions because you see you just going. You see
the kicker and he kicks it up and then here

(28:26):
and then it's from the crowd or whatever. Yeah. Absolutely,
and then you just see the head just got low
and the slow walks. It's embarrassing for everybody involved. Yeah,
it's just I don't know.

Speaker 2 (28:38):
There was one third down conversion in eight attempts, only
eighty two passing yards from Bonix and twenty five rushing
yards from running backs. But Flo pressured Bonix on fourteen
of twenty seven of his dropbacks. That's fifty one point
nine percent. Matt Mulano h Vintage Malana was back, baby.
He looked great on Sunday. Five tackles, three solo, a sack,
and a quarterback hit his sideline. The sideline speed was

(28:59):
on display against Denver, allowing to keep bo Nicks in
the pocket or at least if he was going to run,
keep it to a small game. So that will be
important for Sunday's game against the Ravens. Greg Russo two tackles,
both solo as sacked two tackles for lost in a
quarterback hit. Von Miller onlyo the only tallied one quarterback hit.

(29:21):
But in the regular season he played about twenty five
point two seven percent of the snap share. On Sunday
played fifty percent of the defensive snaps for Denver, So
clearly the goal was to keep Miller fresh during the
regular season. So he's ready for the postseason.

Speaker 1 (29:35):
And I don't care how old he is or or
where he is in the athlete spectrum. The dude is
still a physical unit and a presence. And it's like
when Smart played with by Buffalo.

Speaker 2 (29:47):
There it's like goal It's like goal scores. You don't
you don't forget the NHL. You don't forget how to
score score goals. You don't forget how to sack a quarterback.
And that and again that is that is that is
very impressed that von Miller is still effective at this
point in time. But again that will come to roost
on Sunday. We hope kicker Tyler Bass three for three
on field goals, two for two on extra points, fifteen

(30:09):
career postseason field goals. That's second most enfranchise history behind
Steve Christy at twenty two. Seventy three career postseason points
scored the third most Enfranchise history, behind Steve Christy at
ninety seven and Thurman Thomas at one one hundred and
twenty six. So again, you know what, good for you,
Tyler Bass?

Speaker 1 (30:25):
Very good. That's also been a theme of this of
the podcast this season two. Good for you, Tyler Bass.
Your boy JC over here supports you.

Speaker 2 (30:33):
And with that said, John take a quick commercial break.
We'll be back with more Trust the Podcast here on

I'm paid into the Holy jack Wagon, mister Chris Downey
for a round the NFL. Take it away, Chris.

Speaker 4 (32:06):
As always, Ryan and John, thank you. Now here's her
on the NFL recap. First, on Saturday, there were a
pair of games that took place, both in the AFC
side of the bracket. Houston thirty two to twelve winners
over the Chargers in Houston. TJ. Stroud threw for a touchdown,
also had nearly three hundred yards passing at twot eighty two.

(32:28):
Justin Herbert two hundred and forty two yards passing, but
he threw four picks. That was not the recipe for
success for the Chargers, who book ended the game with
six points on each side. Houston thirty two twelve winners,
advancing to the Divisional round Saturday night in Baltimore, an
AFC North matchup, the third meeting between the Ravens and
the Steelers went the way of the Ravens twenty eight

(32:50):
fourteen winners over the Pittsburgh Steelers. Saturday Night, Ravens led
twenty one to nothing at the have. Pittsburgh put fourteen
up in the third quarter, but it wasn't enough. Derrek
Henry rushed for one hundred and eighty six yards and
two touchdowns in the win. Sunday, as Ryan and John
have already talked about, Bill's big winners over the Broncos
in the middle game the afternoon four to thirty slot,

(33:13):
the Eagles kicked off the NFC side of things for
the playoffs twenty two to ten winners over the Green
Bay Packers. Jordan Love threw for two hundred and twelve yards,
but also had three interceptions in the loss for Green Bay.
The Eagles fourteen and three, advancing to the Divisional weekend
of the NFL Playoffs. Sunday Night Commanders with a dwink

(33:34):
of win twenty three twenty winners as a last second
field goal joinked in from Zane Gonzalez Commanders twenty three
twenty winners in Tampa Bay Jay Daniels two hundred and
sixty eight yards and two touchdowns in the win. And
then on Monday Night Football, the Rams concluded wild Card
weekend with a resounding twenty seven to nine win over
the Minnesota Vikings. They led twenty four to three at

(33:56):
the half. Sam Darnold only threw for two hundred and
forty five yards and one touchdown in the loss for Minnesota,
LA also advancing to Divisional weekend. Now we look ahead,
the number one seeds are in action. They will get, respectively,
the Chiefs host the Texans and the Lions host the Commanders.
On the other side, the Bills and Ravens. Probably the

(34:17):
biggest matchup of the playoffs Eagles and Rams for the
two versus four Now the Texans and Chiefs Saturday at
four thirty, Lines and Commanders at eight pm on Saturday,
Eagles and Rams at three on Sunday, and then the
Bills in Ravens conclude divisional round weekend at six point
thirty matchup. Everyone's been waiting for. Definitely nerves on both

(34:38):
sides for sure, Ryan and John.

Speaker 2 (34:40):
Back to you, Thank you, Chris, I appreciate you as always.
Moving forward to a look ahead or injury report, pick
your point. Return to Brandon Codrington missed the game of
the hamstring injury was questionable heading into the game. It's
something where again I'm sorry about the noise of back.
My daughter apparently or as out of all of the times,
has decided to sit down here and screen.

Speaker 1 (35:01):
Let me tell you when Gianna and Emma were young
and I was in the early days of Gear Network
and you know, the old the BLTD podcast. How many
times did I appear on the old b LTD podcast
where I'd be like, honey, come on now, daddy's doing
a podcast, you know, and the old any of the
old talking wrestling, get Ready America, Jason Muddy shit whatever.

(35:21):
As they were getting older, they they made their appearances
there this is this is nothing normal. This is cute.
I love it. It's a family thing.

Speaker 2 (35:28):
Yeah, she's doing the three major thing where every time
I talked to her, I could look her in the
face and she just pretends I don't exist, which is.

Speaker 1 (35:33):
Wonderful, but a three major I like it.

Speaker 2 (35:36):
Brandon Codrington said that he was ready to go for
the game, but they believe that he was just held
out for precautionary reasons. Again, you don't go into a
game saying we're probably gonna need you next week in
the playoffs. But there was there was a business decision
made here. It seems like cornerback Tarren Johnson had a
head and neck issue. He jammed his neck on a

(35:56):
tackle clear protocol during the game. Looking back on it
probably should have been a flag on the offense because
Taron Johnson went down to tackle like normally and the
line or the running back lowered his head boom head
into head and there was some neck compression there. It
didn't look too good. As mentioned, running back Ray Davis

(36:17):
was ruled out with the concussion. He's currently practicing this week,
but non contact with a guardian cap on. Also, defensive
back cam Lewis head injury cleared return of the game.
Piers have been practicing this week. Same with offensive lineman
Alec Anderson, who's become very important on the Buffalo Bill's
six offensive lineman sets had a calf injury. It's been
a full participate in this week. So John really no

(36:41):
time like the president to move over to the divisional round.

Speaker 1 (36:45):
Preview, the big the big game here. Honestly, to me,
if I have not seen enough from I know, Kansas
City's Kansas City, right, and Houston cool story, bro. The
winner of this game probably is going to be going
to the super Bowl. Yeah, and I would aglieve that.

(37:06):
And I know we're going to get to the point
where we I know earlier in the week that it
was fifty to fifty split on ESPN. I don't know.
I didn't look ahead, so I don't know if that
has been changed at all. But I am among the
fifty percent riding with Buffalo on this one. I'm already
this deep into it. Let's just freaking go on.

Speaker 2 (37:28):
Don't don't worry, man, It's it's changing every day. I mean,
I've got a gun at the bottom here. It's it's
pretty close. But looking at the divisional round. John, I mean,
obviously everybody knows that. I mean, this is this is
this is it. This is what everybody's been waiting for.
Sean McDermot said after the Broncos game. He said, this
is what everyone's exact quote, this is what everyone's been

(37:49):
looking for, everyone's been waiting for. Right So it'd be
a nice week and everyone be looking forward to it.
They're a great football team. I mean, they handled us
pretty good the first go around, and they're certainly playing well.
Buffalo did loose at Baltimore week four, thirty five to ten,
but they were without Matt Malano, Terrell Bernard, and Tarren Johnson,
Khalil Shakier and Taylor Rapper injured early in the game,

(38:10):
and also Amari Cooper was still a Cleveland Brown, And.

Speaker 1 (38:13):
That seems more lifetime ago.

Speaker 2 (38:14):
Actually, it seems like a completely different football team, right right, right,
So Baltimore twelve and five, they're six and three away
the third seed in the AFC, the AFC North champions
last week a twenty eight to fourteen victory over Pittsburgh
in the wild card matchup. Don't want to spend too
much time on this, John, but I've never seen and

(38:34):
I'm just gonna I'm just gonna get the one swear
out of the way for the day. That was the
most limp dick performance I've ever seen from a football
team ever.

Speaker 6 (38:44):
Like, sorry, mister and missus Towny, Like, you're in the playoffs,
you have the opportunity to win and go further to
play for the Lombardi Trophy.

Speaker 1 (38:56):
And the Steelers showed up and played as if they
would literally rather be anywhere else on the face of God,
God's green Earth. And it was hard to watch. Yeah,
it was. It was pretty brutal. It was pretty like
I know, I mentioned earlier in the podcast that this
didn't that this the Bills Broncos game felt like a
one o'clock PM CBS Sunday game that was pretty meaningless.

(39:21):
This game between Baltimore and Pittsburgh felt like a freaking
Thursday night Football Week five and and al Michaels is
pissed off that he's even there type game like that.
It was. It was a It was very porous, So.

Speaker 2 (39:34):
Lamar Jackson, we in all bought him. But we're gonna
run down here really quick. Four and seventy two passing yards,
forty one touchdowns, four interceptions with one hundred and thirty
nine carres for nine hundred and fifteen rushing yards and
four touchdowns, a weird stat. Lamar Jackson has played two
road playoff games in his career no passing touchdowns, obviously
looking to continue that on Sunday. He also has played
one of those two games against the Bills and lost.

(39:55):
Lamar Jackson likely is the NFL MVP. The last time
the first Team All Pro Quarterback and MVP Quarterback where
different players was nineteen eighty seven, when John Elway won
the MVP and Joe Montana was First Team All Pro,
per CBS Sports quote. Even though the All Pro vote
is almost always a precursor to who wins the MVP,

(40:17):
and this also John I mentioned this because this kind
of puts a bow on the conversation we've been having
since it's coming to a head. Let's also consider how
close the All Pro vote was. Jackson got thirty first
place votes for First Team All Pro and Allen got eighteen.
It was the closest vote since two thousand and three,
when it was also separated by twelve votes. Peyton Manning

(40:38):
was First Team All Pro over Steve McNair, but they
did split the NFL MVP award the last time the
NFL had CO MVPs there.

Speaker 1 (40:44):
Telling me that would be a cop out BS thing
if they if they split and did co MVP this year.
There are also there would be a lot of pissed
off people with that one. I agree.

Speaker 2 (40:55):
There are also some parallels to twenty twenty four. In
two thousand and three, one Manning had a better support
cast with Marvin Harrison, Reggie Wayne, and Edward James and
McNair did. There was also a two thousand yard rusher
with Jamal Lews in two thousand and three that stole
five MVP votes from Steve from from I would presume
one of the guys I did not get that far.
Who's to say Saquon Barkley won't steal a few MVP

(41:17):
votes from say voters who picked Jackson as their first
team All Pro choice.

Speaker 1 (41:21):
Also perhaps for another wild card out for you there too,
Joe Burrows getting some chatter, you know, for some courtesy
votes as well. You never know.

Speaker 2 (41:31):
So also, perhaps some more emphasis will be placed on
the quote unquote most valuable over quote best season when
flipping from All Pro to MVP vote. Speaking of MVP
Derrick Henry first ballot, first ballot Hall of Famer, in
my opinion, the only the only running back to have
I think it's over nineteen. I think the nineteen hundred

(41:52):
yards is like the watermark. Only running back ever to
have a season of nineteen hundred more yards twice, three
hundred and twenty five carries year for nineteen hundred and
twenty one yards, sixteen rushing touchdowns, nineteen receptions for one
hundred and ninety three yards and two touchdowns. Oh but John,
it gets better. And do you see do you see
that guy? That guy's workout plan, Like the dude is
a freaking beast.

Speaker 1 (42:12):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (42:12):
I remember when he came out and everyone's like, man,
running backs are their bs, and he just no, just
churning through. I think putting a hole in a in
a mother effort. Man.

Speaker 1 (42:21):
I'll tell you why I think I think it came out.
I can't remember exactly how much it was, but it
was a large, large amount of money that he spends
on his body in conditioning and then off season and
rehabilitation things like that. Like he does what kind of
Lebron James and Steph Curry do where they are very
much preserving their bodies though the tanks and the things

(42:42):
like that. Like he's been doing a lot of that.
I can't remember what the exact dollar figure was, but
it's a lot of money that he spends on keeping
his body moving like a like a brand new Ferrari.

Speaker 2 (42:53):
Yeah, I mean you have to you have to do that.
You absolutely have to invest in yourself in order to
continue to play at the highest level.

Speaker 1 (43:00):
I mean the rate.

Speaker 2 (43:01):
Now, let me see here, Derrick Henry is thirty one
years old, just turned thirty one a few days ago,
actually on January fourth, and he just he just ran
three hundred took the ball three hundred and twenty five
times on the ground.

Speaker 1 (43:17):
That's that's unbelievable. That's unbelievable. That age. I mean, even
even at that age, Emmett Smith was slowing down, you know, Walter.

Speaker 2 (43:25):
Pat's gone, like, unbelievable because I want to I want
to keep that transition because this is unbelievable, and I'm
sorry to jump in front of you. Baltimore's defense has
been unbelievable. Per Fox Sports. In the first ten weeks
of the season, Baltimore's defense allowed twenty five point three
points per game. Three hundred and sixty seven point nine
yards per game. Uh, and then two hundred and ninety

(43:45):
four point nine passing yards per game. Baltimore improved to
giving up just fifteen point four points per game, two
hundred and sixty one point seven yards per game, and
one hundred and seventy one and a half passing yards
per game over the last seven weeks of the regular season.

Speaker 1 (43:58):
So a lot of this has to do Its gonna
be a dogfight, is what it's going to be.

Speaker 2 (44:01):
Yeah, a lot of this had to do with moving
Kyle Hamilton uh to to safety.

Speaker 1 (44:06):
I believe it was.

Speaker 2 (44:09):
Correct me if I'm wrong, but moving Kyle Hamilton around
allowed the defense to open up something they did not
have previously.

Speaker 1 (44:16):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (44:16):
It's gonna be a chess match on Sunday and and
Ravens fans are already out there talking about talking about
what might happen the ref crew. A Ravens fan pointed
out Carl Scheffer's is the head referee for some the
night's game. The home team has won seventy three percent
of the game Scheffers has refed this season. Home teams
are seventy nine and fifty two twenty sixteen, with him

(44:37):
officiating and Buffalo with Josh Allen's eight and two with
Scheffer's as.

Speaker 1 (44:41):
The head ref. So keep thinking that's an incredible reach. Well,
it's you know, it's it's Ravens.

Speaker 2 (44:46):
It's Ravens fans wanting to to well, we got.

Speaker 1 (44:48):
Screwed or whatever. I mean, they're gonna put it to anything, right,
They're gonna play, but you could put a stat to anything.
But in the same that that's me just seems like
they're already pre building the excuses putting a stat to anything.

Speaker 2 (45:01):
ESPN's matchup predictor has fifty five to zero point three
of America believes Buffalo will continue that oh percent, it
jumped up on four revenge tour. We'll continue with the
win over the Baltimore Ravens and John It's gonna be
a knockdown, drag out. Dare I say slob or knocker

(45:22):
of a football game. I got no reason to believe,
even with Buffalo getting their cheeks clapped in Week four,
I've gotten no reason to bet against this Buffalo Bill's
team on Sunday. On Sunday, I started thinking about it,
and I'm like, maybe this is it. Maybe you know,

(45:43):
just trying to kind of like process emotions and think
about the podcast and Okay, how do we want to
how do we want to navigate this and how do
we want to kind of frame the discussion. As the
week has gone on and you hear how the Bills
players are talking and how they're saying, you know, hey,
it's like one foot in front of the other. They're
they're they're they're going through and reading like old I

(46:05):
don't know if it's like it wasn't the Iliad, but
it was stuff like that where you're like, Okay, these
guys are like getting really into it, like very spiritual
about you know, flip the page.

Speaker 1 (46:15):
It's you know, what is.

Speaker 2 (46:17):
What what is was, and what will be is what
where we will be going? Just making stuff up right now?
But I get very they're very well. I mean I
just make make shit up all the time. My favorite
is being like the guy from Boondock Saints, you know,
the bartender. Let's make like a tree and get the

(46:37):
fuck out of here. You know you're again but again
just just you're hearing all the stories about how the Bills,
how Sean McDermott has developed as a coach, and how
this is like his best coaching year that the Buffalo
Bills have seen players who have left and come back
saying the same thing like, this is a completely different guy.
There's a reason why players wanted to play for Sean McDermott,

(46:59):
and essentially an nutshell, it was related to the first child.

Speaker 1 (47:02):
The second child.

Speaker 2 (47:03):
Your first kid, you're so hands on, you want to
control everything. Second child, people are helping me take care
of the kid and raise the kid. You're just kind
of look more hands off. He's become more hands off.
And to mention, I wanted to make sure we mentioned
this too, John, because what a name of an award.
This is the Maxwell Football Club. Earlier today announced Sean
McDermott is the winner of the thirty sixth Greasy Neil

(47:23):
Award as the most outstanding coach in professional football, marking
the first time a Bill's head coach has earned the
Greasy Neil Award.

Speaker 1 (47:34):
Greasy Neil Award. I have to be honest, Ryan, I've
never heard of that me either. Congratulations Sean McDermott, me either,
But the Greasy Meil Award. After I did look into that,
we'll have to. I need to know what this Greasy
Meal Award is and maybe between this at the end
of this episode in the beginning of the next one.

(47:55):
I we'll find that out.

Speaker 2 (47:56):
Well, I can tell you right now. Greasey Neil Alfred
Earl Greasy Neil November fifth, eighteen ninety one to November second,
nineteen seventy three a American football and baseball player and coach. Interesting, interesting, lamar.
You know a college logo. There a college football Hall

(48:17):
of Famer. He played. Wow, he did a lot man.
He coached this guy? Is this guy's impressive? He coached
the real deal college football, college basketball at Marietta, and
college baseball at Virginia. His coaching record in college eighty

(48:38):
two fifty four and eleven, basketball twenty six and eleven,
college baseball eighty seventy three and two. He was sixty
six forty four and five in the NFL three and
one in the NFL playoffs. Yeah, he also a two
hundred a point. Wow, I'm you can tell him not
in baseball talk here. He was a two to fifty
nine career hitter. He had eight home runs to hundred
stolen bases one hundred and thirty nine or two hundred

(48:59):
runs ad in starr one hundred and thirty nine stolen bases.

Speaker 1 (49:03):
What a what a life?

Speaker 2 (49:04):
A Pro Football Hall of Famer, Philadelphia Eagles Hall of Famer.

Speaker 1 (49:10):
I mean, well, I'll tell you this. God. Normally, normally
when I when I post the podcast, I just kind
of leave the traditional, you know, trust the podcast logo
on there. But I think I may make the cover
ours a picture of Greasy Neil. Our our logo is
too pretty. You can't do that.

Speaker 2 (49:30):
No offense to grease and God bless God.

Speaker 1 (49:33):
Sorry, sorry, Greasy Neil. I tried look at her. Shout
out to Greasey Neil. It was an absolute unit in
the freaking late eighteen hundreds. Hell, John Brother, they don't
make them like they used to. They don't make them
like they used to.

Speaker 2 (49:46):
That being said, gurger loins, ladies and gentlemen, fasten them,
seat fasten them, seatbelts. Eat fire, up to grill, get
that shovel in that red meat, Get yourself hyped up,
ready to go, energy, drinks, beers, whatever it takes.

Speaker 1 (50:07):
Man, I don't care whatever you yourself lit up for
the game. There's only one other thing to actually add
to that. Goddamn right, Boomer.

Speaker 2 (50:19):
No one circles awagons like the Buffalo Bills, and.

Speaker 1 (50:21):
Hey, look at I'm not hoping.

Speaker 2 (50:24):
I'm hoping the season continues no matter what happens on Sunday,
this continues to be a very special team on a
very special run. And I'm hoping when we talk to you,
same time, same place next week, that we're talking AFC
Championship game.

Speaker 1 (50:39):
I'm talking it into existence and I'm gonna put I'm
gonna put this into the end of the hemisphere to
Buffalo hosts Houston.

Speaker 2 (50:48):
You know what, I'm really hoping that. I'm really hoping
that to be the case. That's my best although although
I am gonna have to be in Kansas, uh that week,
oh no, uh for work. But you know what, all right,
I may have just made sure that I may have

(51:08):
just made sure to make my flight so I can
make sure I'm at the hotel by the time the
game starts so I can see there.

Speaker 1 (51:14):
Well, look at you wheeling and dealing Wolf.

Speaker 2 (51:16):
Over the priorities, Brother, priorities for John Somino and Chris Downey.
I am Ryan Wolf. As always, we are trust the podcast.

Speaker 1 (51:27):
You are not.

Speaker 2 (51:29):
We will catch you same time, same place. Thank you
for tuning in, my friends. As always, go bills.

Speaker 1 (51:35):
Shout you, everybody. The preceding presentation has been brought to
