and we'll talk about that in just a second. But
before John, well do that, you can hear us on

My co host John Samino at I'm jac Money on
Threads at right There.
Speaker 1 (01:36):
I'm right there with you. On the social media thing, buddy,
I'm I'm this close to quentinam.
Speaker 4 (01:43):
I'm off like all of them. I've i've I've logged
out of x I have logged out of TikTok, I
snapchat once. Every once in a blue moon, I go
through threads and now to find some news because even
though it is part of the the bad side, you know,
the dark side, I feel like I can't go on
like CNN to read my news because I will uh
(02:05):
sing a song in the Kurt Cobain's microphone by the
end of the evening, and nobody wants that Lord Lord
paint the paint the town red. With the inside of
my head.
Speaker 1 (02:15):
What I said, this is what I what I'll say
is going back to what I said a few episodes ago,
or maybe it might not have even been on this podcast,
but uh, you can't let him have your mind, like
literally and figuratively. You know, well, John can't let him
have you have your mind. You just keep doing. You
focus on you and yours and you you keep moving forward.
(02:40):
Your business is moving you forward.
Speaker 4 (02:42):
Speaking of killing myself, Chris Downe's here with us today
on the podcast The Holy jack Wagon.
Speaker 2 (02:49):
Guys, how are we doing?
Speaker 4 (02:51):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (02:51):
That was supposed to be an applause, not a laugh for.
Speaker 2 (02:53):
Hey, I appreciate the effort.
Speaker 4 (02:55):
I mean that that was That was the best transition
I think possible. So now your mom is gonna say,
why did Ryan say that? And you'll just say, well,
Ryan has mental health illnesses and she'll say, oh, it
all checks out then, which is really true.
Speaker 6 (03:10):
And that will probably be her cue as to when
she will text me about the episode.
Speaker 4 (03:14):
Is you'd be very surprised. You'd be very surprised whenever
someone said you just tell somebody you're medicated, and they're like, oh, okay,
it makes sense now, and I'm like, it does well,
I'm always medicated.
Speaker 1 (03:25):
I think you guys know that, but you know, I
guess I'll just get it out of the way now
in advance. I'm really sorry, mister and missus Downey.
Speaker 4 (03:35):
It's gonna be a good one today. I'll tell you
what because here's the thing. Here's the thing.
Speaker 1 (03:39):
I love how that became a tagline for the podcast.
By the way, every episode we have to apologize to them.
Speaker 4 (03:45):
John It's it's it's like anything. It's like a TV show.
It's like a it's like a I mean, I really
like a TV show. You just you find it, you
find a common theme, and you run with it. The
Bills had mister Brightside. They they ran with it, you know.
The Red Sox were the idiots. They ran with the
cowboy up. They ran with it. We're just running. We're
having a good time. We're enjoying ourselves because again not
(04:06):
really in this game was not really enjoyable. I mean,
it was a thirty two to twenty nine loss. It
was for the second in in row. It was the
second year row I can't apparently read, and the fourth
time in five season. The Buffalo Bills season ends at
the hands of the Kansas City Chiefs. I mean, I've
been ready to talk about this probably about a week now,
(04:27):
but through travel and illness, it's time to put this
to bed.
Speaker 1 (04:30):
Might as well.
Speaker 4 (04:31):
At the time of the game, I was actually in Kansas,
which is the flattest place I have ever been to
in my life. The people are wonderful, that that Midwest
charm is real. But I watched the first half of
the game. I was decked out head to toe in
Bill's gear, blue hat, Josh Allen jersey, my blue Zuba's jagam.
Speaker 1 (04:56):
Please tell me there were more of you out there too,
because you know the mafias everywhere.
Speaker 4 (05:00):
John, I walked into a bar and everybody was wearing
red and stared all through me.
Speaker 1 (05:07):
So it was like that John, like that cartoon where
it's like every you know, everybody, just.
Speaker 4 (05:11):
So much so that the the person whom I was
working with on site, who runs the company part of
like the ownership group of the company we were working with,
said to me afterwards that he has the utmost respect
for me because of what I did that day. And
I'm like, man, I just love the bills. So like,
I'm not gonna stand down because I'm in Kansas because
(05:33):
I'm you know wherever. I don't care.
Speaker 1 (05:35):
But you know what, you know what, You're not in
Kansas anymore, Toto, not yet.
Speaker 4 (05:42):
Use the freaking laughter this man, but uh but yeah,
I mean, it was, it was. It was interesting because
you know, being in Kansas from the Chiefs when everyone
was very happy about the Chiefs, and I could give
a hit. But at the same time, what else was
I gonna say? Oh? Yeah, I almost went to the game.
(06:03):
Really work ended up taking over and we were way
too busy. But when I got to Kansas, when I
got boots on the ground in Kansas, that.
Speaker 1 (06:11):
Would it have been a work trip or would it
have been just like an out of your pocket trip.
Speaker 4 (06:14):
It would have been out of my pocket, but I
had a car lined up that the man, the gentleman
who told me he had the utmost respect for what
I did, landed. He said, you're the Bills fan. Said yeah,
because it's the once in a lifetime thing, you gotta
do it. I'm a big fan of doing things when
you can. And I talked to another guy on site
who was not a Bills fan, not a Jews fan,
but said we got to go. Yeah, And then we
(06:35):
ended up getting caught up. Like I was legit ready
to spend two hundred and fifty three hundred bucks for
a ticket. It had been a great experience, but.
Speaker 1 (06:42):
Well, you know what, and it's crazy because that's those
ticket prices are crazy as is, But when you compare
that to what the Super Bowl ticket prices were, like
you're talking, I think the lowest or the cheapest ones
were in the three thousand dollars ring.
Speaker 4 (06:56):
I mean if I had been if I had if
I had gone to the game and the Bills had won,
it would have been a priceless experience. But again we'll
talk about that.
Speaker 2 (07:04):
Moving for you.
Speaker 4 (07:06):
I I will be headed back to Kansas at the
end of the month, tentatively, and I am making a
point to make a pilgrimage to Arrowhead Stadium, uh for
no specific reason right now, but I'm sure you will
see some things, are you?
Speaker 1 (07:25):
Are you gonna do the classic Calvin and Hobbes.
Speaker 2 (07:29):
Arrowhead?
Speaker 4 (07:30):
I mean I told, I told someone that I was
going to do that, but I probably I don't want
to get I don't want to lose my Jobey was.
Speaker 1 (07:36):
That you that he told?
Speaker 2 (07:37):
I don't remember.
Speaker 6 (07:38):
But I also don't encourage bad karma. But I do
enjoy the humor in it all.
Speaker 1 (07:44):
Yes, that's all. That's all we're about.
Speaker 4 (07:46):
Where about the I don't want to get myself on
a list, you know.
Speaker 2 (07:51):
The idiot that the Jericho list, the list I don't
want to.
Speaker 1 (07:56):
I don't want to do that idiot from the Yankees,
the Yankees game that that World Series game that interfered
and now he's not allowed at the part.
Speaker 7 (08:04):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (08:04):
Absolutely, you don't want to be on that list. That's
probably a good idea, Ryan.
Speaker 4 (08:07):
No, I want to be allowed within five hundred yards
of a school. Very good looking at our three big

wrapping up the game and kind of the season, I
know we'll probably do a pot in the coming weeks
breaking down exactly what we saw this year with the
Buffalo Bills. So kind of putting a bow on this
game very quickly, Josh Allen suffered a hand and or
wrist injury. Brandon Bean downplayed the seriousness of the injury.
(09:12):
But from everything that I was told from multiple friend
groups and multiple groups of people that I trust, there
was some sort of broke, break or fracture in his
throwing in Josh Allen's throwing hand. Obviously it was very
swollen and he ended up having a brace on it
the day after the game or two days after the
game at locker clean out. But what do you guys
(09:32):
think how Josh Allen performed? How do you guys think
that Josh Allen performed considering that there's a lot of
stuff that was thrown at the Bills that was not
on not on film this season from the Kansas City Chiefs.
But I will open the floor to you Chris first,
what were your thoughts about Josh Allen's performance against the Chiefs.
Speaker 6 (09:52):
I think, I mean early on. I think it was
what first or second play he had that throw that
sailed down the sideline. It just kind of gave the
vibe of this is uh, it could be one of
those games with the you know, the magnitude.
Speaker 2 (10:06):
You know, not to not to.
Speaker 4 (10:07):
Jump in, Chris and cut you off here, but let
me just set the expectation very quickly. The Bills came
out of the tunnel and you were already texting me saying, oh, buddy,
vibes are off. This team doesn't look like they got
it today. And I'm like, Chris, the game literally hasn't
kicked off yet. You gotta take a breath and just
relax for a moment.
Speaker 2 (10:26):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (10:26):
Now, it's funny. It's funny you say that too, because
where I was. I was at my my buddy Dangermine's
house with my buddy Brandon as well, and that is
you know, mega heavy Bills household, you know what I mean,
And and your mind was like nervous, like he was like,
oh my god, Oh my god. I'm like, dude, breathe, breathe,
It's okay. Let let the coin toss happen.
Speaker 4 (10:50):
Yeah, I mean that that's where I was I was.
I was thinking to myself and again for the for
the wild card weekend, well for the divisional weekend, and
then for the AFC Championship game. I said the same
thing to Chris and to you John oddly at piece
oddly Colm. If they win, they win, that's awesome. If
they don't, then well shit, you know.
Speaker 6 (11:12):
Yeah, I mean I think starting out, like I think,
it was a different magnezine. I mean, we talked about
this team at the beginning of the year and not
sure what was going to happen. And now you come
into a game where you're arguably the better team on
the right night, and you have to go and slay
the giant that has ended your season the last few years,
and it just, I don't know, the first couple of
plays looked like it was the nerves are setting in,
(11:33):
so that really obviously didn't help me, as we saw
in the group chap. But I mean, I think overall,
Josh did what he could. I mean, he settled down.
You know, obviously that hand injury doesn't help in the
second half, but I mean, you know, Josh is Josh,
and I think you know, twenty nine points doesn't happen
with many other quarterbacks in that game.
Speaker 1 (11:52):
Absolutely, and he played MVP caliber football and as he
always has done, he's made he and I've noticed this
especially over this past season, but really over the past
two or three seasons where he's played hurt. You know
what he's played hurt. You know he hurt his hand
last year or the leg the year before, or something
like that. There was some sort of injury that he
(12:14):
was working through and continuing to work through, and he
just adapted his game. He's smart enough to understand how
to do that now, and that's part of what helped
carry and get those twenty nine points and help the
Bills in spite of his injury in that first half,
still remain in the game with an opportunity to win.
So that's that's what MVP players do. And I know
(12:39):
I've said it a couple of times and Ryan, we
already spoiled it earlier and we already know that he's
the MVP. But it's just it's mentalities like that. It's
not making excuses, it's playing through the pain. It's his
desire to win. He's the real deal, man, and he
showed it that game.
Speaker 4 (13:01):
Sorry, I'll edit out that that area there I was
my breaking down the fourth wall. I had to fix
my microphone before the podcast because my cord died stop working.
So I'm trying to fix the court while the podcast
is happening, so the microphone stops.
Speaker 1 (13:14):
The microphone get we were we were just praising Josh Allen.
Speaker 4 (13:19):
So the microphone doesn't get pulled down as I'm talking,
and then I sound like I'm across the room yelling
at you guys. Again, I think, personally, I think Josh
Allen did everything that he could. There were a few
plays that I know everyone's hot about, the Dalton Kincaid play,
which we'll talk about here just a minute, that Josh Allen, Yeah,
Josh Allen had Khalil Shakir wide open. But guess what
(13:40):
the Kansas City Kansas City chiefs sent something the Bill's
way and Josh Allen's way that had not been on
tape at all this year and shocked everybody. And at
the end of the day, like, yes, there needs to
be there needs to be better anticipation of those things.
But I think about it this way, and I know
it's very cliche and a very very feels very much
like a cop out, But you shouldn't have been in
(14:04):
that situation in the first place. I mean, there were
a lot of things to go Kansas City's way that
that if it broke for Buffalo, could have made it
for a for a different for a different result. I mean,
Christian Benford left the game early with a concussion, which
was very ugly. They had to they had to cart
him off the field in a little golf cart and
(14:26):
then excuse me, they had to actually like lock him
in with a seat belt, which is not great.
Speaker 2 (14:34):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (14:34):
He just definitely was not his He was not there
at all. But Sean McDermot said of the defense, quote,
we really played. We've played really good defense for a
long time here. I would say this year not as
good as we played in the years prior. One of
the things we did a really good job at this
year's taking the ball away. Part of scoring on offense
is taking the ball from taking the ball away. That
being said, we didn't perform well enough in the Kansas
City game. It always continues to feel like we just
(14:57):
didn't perform well enough. And I mean that's going to
be the conversation when you lose. But the one thing
I must say, guys that I do love is Josh
Allen downplayed his hand injury, that that's not why we
lost Dalton Kincaid. It was confirmed by tight end Dawson
Knox that Kincaid played through a torn pcl on one
kneed and had a bunch of fluid in another knee. Again,
(15:19):
a lot of wrist injuries, a lot of a lot
of soft tissue injuries. But there were no excuses from
the Buffalo Bills team. You know, they just they say, hey, no,
we got out played. You know, we we gave it
our best in Kansas City and it just wasn't enough.
Speaker 6 (15:35):
Yeah, I mean, I want to go back to the
thought on Josh Allen if I had one gripe, because
obviously Josh Allen is not perfect, but he is a
robot and he's our robot. And I'm sure we might
talk about this later if we want to talk about
it now. The constant going back to the wheelhouse of
the Josh Allen push push in that game.
Speaker 2 (15:56):
I think, if there's one short coming.
Speaker 6 (15:58):
Schemes better, yes, schemed better, but also, you know, definition
of insanity's doing the same thing over and over again
expecting results. You know, maybe on that first down, yes,
no play on that fourth down play someone you know,
Josh says, hey, let's run something else.
Speaker 2 (16:18):
You know, you look to your on field captain, your leader, and.
Speaker 4 (16:22):
Well, again there were those. There was the miscall on
the fourth down that Josh Allen clearly looked like he
had the first down. But again, you cannot put your
team in that situation. Should have something better beforehand or
more efficient beforehand, so you don't have to keep relying
on that tush push on the on the fourth and one,
(16:42):
because again, at the end of the day, you're you're
not playing no offense to I don't know, the worst
team in football. You're not playing against the New York Giants,
right You're you're playing against the Kansas City Chiefs, one
of the best defenses in the league, one of the
best defensive minds we've seen in a very long time,
Steve Spagnola. Where they find ways to innovate, they find
(17:03):
ways to make things happen. And I feel like this
is part of the growth of Joe Brady as an
offensive coordinator and Josh Allen as a as a leader
under center. I mean, this team is a year of
the rebuild. We've talked about it. This team took a big,
a big, big, big leap forward. But at the same time,
there's still is a little left to be desired, and
(17:24):
I feel like it's.
Speaker 1 (17:27):
Yeah, well, they're gonna have the opportunity to talk about
a minute. But like getting the opportunity to do that
over the offseason though we were getting a pressure defensively, right, Yes,
because again, yes, would have Would Christian Benford have made
a difference in the game.
Speaker 4 (17:40):
Maybe I think he probably would have. But you can't
you can't speak. We only have to speak to what
we know, and what we know is the same thing
we've talked about before. That Buffalo Bill's defensive line very
good at getting pressure, not very good at finishing that pressure.
And against the quarterback like Patrick Mahomes of of his
ilk there are many out there, sure, but if you
(18:02):
give him just a little extra time, he's going to
make something happen. And he did with ease.
Speaker 1 (18:07):
I don't know why I just thought about this, but
you know, because when the Christian Bedford's by, because I'm
looking at the the show right up here and see
Christian Bedford. But when when that happened, I started to
feel the energy in the room drain a bit. I
was still optimistic though until the botched first down call.
Like from there at that point, that was when and
(18:29):
I didn't tell you guys this in the chat, primarily
because I was under an influence, but I that was
when I went back to when Chris said that the
vibes were off, because once that happened for me, that
was where I was like, sh can.
Speaker 4 (18:44):
We can we just bring it full circle here really quick? Though,
before we moved through looking at the off season, you
guys are talking about in the way that I'm talking
about this game, you'd swear to God if you were
in a coma and woke up in the first thing
you listened to was trust the podcast, which if that's
the case, let me know, I owe you one exactly.
(19:04):
But you would have sworn that this game was a knockdown,
drag out, beat him down type of game. The Bills
lost thirty two to twenty nine, So again, there were
a lot of opportunities for this game to turn on
its head and be a win for the Buffalo Bills
and a trip to the super Bowl. But again, at
the end of the day, something will click at some
(19:27):
point in time. I don't looking towards twenty twenty five.
I don't necessarily think that you have to do a
ton to this offense. Maybe spread a little bit more out.
But if stay, for instance, the team locked this offense
up in a ziploc bag, brought him back next year,
(19:47):
stuck him in a box, whatever you want to do.
We're not sponsored by zip blocks and no free advertisement,
you assholes. You stick them in a cardboard box, you
bring them back, thank you. I'm here all week for
better or for worse. If you bring this offense back,
you probably would be fine.
Speaker 1 (20:06):
Right, Yes, the defense, defense, upgrading the defense, They're gonna
have the cap room to be able to make some
kind of splash if they like, not even not even.
Speaker 4 (20:15):
Being as broad as saying the defense needs to be
better John and Chris. But I think again, every time
the Buffalo Bills play the Kansas City Chiefs, every time
you watch the Kansas City Chiefs, there's that game changing
defensive player named Chris Jones. And Buffalo has shown the
(20:35):
ability and the capability to take on all comers many
they have beaten the best of the best, of the
worst of the worst. They beat Kansas City in the
regular season, I mean they can do it. I know
the playoffs are a different kind of monster, but the
one thing that Buffalo lacks in a game like this
is a Chris Jones is a guy who will come
in and say, I don't care how good indifferent you are,
(21:02):
I'm gonna be the one that's calling the shots today.
I'm taking this game over and again, I know we're
looking toward, we look toward the Super Bowl, which I
don't know about you guys, felt really goddamn good to
just watch Patrick Mahomes get crunched what felt like a
million times, and then you say to yourself, I know, Chris,
you and I talked about this briefly. Oh man, this
(21:25):
is a lot of missed opportunities for the Bills defense, yes,
but also at the same time, the Bills defense and
the Eagles defense are on two different levels. That team
has been built from the bottom up with very good
young talent, where the Bills have very good talent, but
the problem is they need to find a better scheme,
(21:45):
a better way to get consistently get to the quarterback.
Pressure's fine, but you need to be able to get
to that quarterback and have a guy come out and
get double digit sacks, get ten twelve fourteen sacks next year,
because that's really what you're missing.
Speaker 6 (22:04):
Yeah, and I think, like you said, we talked about it,
and I know obviously the Eagles defense is quite different
than ours, but I mean, I think the stat that
stands out is, you know the fact that they did
not blitz in that Super Bowl at all and Mahomes
got lit up like a Christmas tree.
Speaker 1 (22:20):
Yeah, that was that's all.
Speaker 4 (22:22):
That's all scheming that. I feel like that is all scheming.
I mean, there is more talent, yes, but the Buffalo Bills,
it's it's been a big change, and I think there
will be a big change coming into next year. We'll
talk about that coming up as to why.
Speaker 1 (22:37):
But I do feel that there's going to be a
change within Kansas City as well. I don't think you're
going to get a guaranteed shoe in Super Bowl appearance
Kansas City Chiefs team for at least the next couple
of years.
Speaker 2 (22:50):
No.
Speaker 4 (22:50):
I think that right now they may have they're going
to have to retool on the fly that I think
they're like twenty before anything happens this offseason, they're like
twenty second in the league in cap space, with like
fifty million dollars. There are some guys coming up that
are gonna have to get paid, and they're gonna have
to continue to flex their muscles with their with their
draft capital, and how they've been able to bring talented
(23:11):
veterans in on the cheap, going out and getting a
guy like DeAndre Hopkins via via trade with some draft capital,
making sure that the guys you're drafting you can coach
him up. And then all of a sudden, you're you're
now in a a you know, a pick like Rashie
Rice or a defensive player where you're just like, yeah,
(23:33):
that was not what you expected to happen, But they
got him, they coached them up, and now he's now
They're incredible, right, and Buffalo has been able to do
the same thing, don't get me wrong. But again, it's
that Greg Russo is fantastic. I think one of one
of the top defensive ends in the league. I would say,
at least, you know, top ten in my opinion.
Speaker 1 (23:53):
Yeah, but if you get.
Speaker 4 (23:54):
Someone opposite of him who's also that good, watch how
much better he gets, Watch how much better at Oliver gets.
Speaker 1 (24:02):
Because again, they can I don't everybody everybody is expendable.
Speaker 4 (24:09):
I don't have stats here, but I can just tell
you obviously if if you double team a guy and
the guy you leave unblocked is notably worse than that
person you're double teaming. Yeah, nothing's gonna happen. I mean,
let's be honest here. And another big thing too. Wide
receiver Marik Cooper was injured. There was a suggestion that
(24:29):
he let me see here. Brandon Bean said on a
Marii Cooper quote, you're talking about a player who's never
been in this offensive system. He's got to learn the playbook.
He's never thrown with Josh Allen. You have to acclimate
with your team, learning offense. The games keep going, and
so I think he did a great job of learning
our offense. And fairness to him due to time, he
suffered the wrist injury obviously, banged his back up, missed
(24:49):
some games, but fought through it. Honestly, his wrist could
have required surgery, and I feel that at least I
feel sure that at least one of the doctors recommended it,
but he wanted to keep playing. So Amari Cooper not
at a one hundred. The Bills lose by a few points.
Imagine again that swing the opposite way. The Bills have
had a lot of bad injury luck, but again.
Speaker 1 (25:08):
This was this was a pretty pretty terrible season injury
wise for them.
Speaker 4 (25:12):
Amari Cooper says, quote, I just seemed like we were
so close. He had so far away. Overall, I felt
like it was a great experience, a lot of great teammates,
and it isn't over coach out of the meeting. The
experience is going to make winning feel that much more sweet.
I feel like a guy like Amari Cooper wants to
be here, and if you can make it fit financially,
why not. Because again we've heard stuff about Keon Coleman,
which we'll talk about in just a little bit, But
(25:34):
like this team needs to have a veteran I think
they need to have a veteran wide receiver in that way, ye,
because again, the one thing that the culture's won, the
culture we talked about coming into this year, lack of separation.
We've talked about that so many times. Right, the Bills
don't have a guy who can separate and help create that.
There's there's there's Khalil Shakir who is usually playing the slot.
(25:57):
He can separate, but Ian Coleman's a fifty fifty guy,
So like, what are you gonna do there?
Speaker 1 (26:02):
But yeah, you don't, you don't know yet. You're you're
really not gonna know the true potential of someone like
a Kean Coleman until you're about year three, Like next year,
it should be a year, a year of improvement for him,
right Naturally, you you saw, you saw some you saw
some bouts of like, hey, this is why they drafted
him during during the season with some of the plays
that he made. Now they're gonna tailor a lot of
(26:24):
the offense in the offseason to really start incorporating him
a little bit more and getting him a bit more
reps and a bit more end of the flows. And
I think by year three will know for sure he's
certainly not a Garrett Wilson. Right where Garrett Wilson was
drafted very high, you knew he was going to be
good regardless of the situation.
Speaker 4 (26:45):
He's not that bucking of Speaking of drafting, sorry John, no, no,
go ahead. Speaking of drafting Kean Coleman and the Bills
trading the Xavier Worthy pick to the Chiefs to get
Xavier Worthy, how how funny because obviously if you just
look at if you look at the stat line, You're like, Wow,
(27:10):
that guy had a really good game.
Speaker 1 (27:12):
Mhm.
Speaker 4 (27:12):
That was the most and in part in my French,
that was the biggest limp dick performance I've ever seen
in my life in the super Bowl because all all
of his all of his statistics came in garbage times down.
Speaker 6 (27:28):
I apologize, Chris, what do you think about that? First
of all, sorry to my parents, But we're all adults here.
Speaker 2 (27:40):
No, it's it's funny.
Speaker 4 (27:41):
I saw adults. Okay, I cannot be just because I
legally am responsible.
Speaker 1 (27:47):
Why do you ask Chris question and then cut him
off every time he talks?
Speaker 6 (27:52):
This is why, this is why I record my segments,
because I can just talk free from five minutes.
Speaker 1 (27:58):
You say three words to in response to a question
Ryan asked, and then he's like, the goddamn podcast and
keep it up. I am.
Speaker 4 (28:08):
I am hyped up on a black cherry kickstart.
Speaker 1 (28:12):
Oh oh my.
Speaker 4 (28:13):
On top of some riddling and some coffee, bro, I'm
feeling like I'm feeling like Scott Steiner over here with
the God.
Speaker 2 (28:19):
He's gonna start giving us poor math lessons.
Speaker 1 (28:22):
Yes, yes he will.
Speaker 2 (28:24):
No, I don't remember good, Oh thank you? I appreciate
this from this.
Speaker 4 (28:30):
No, it was how you feel, Chris.
Speaker 1 (28:32):
Ryan, shut up and let the man talk going.
Speaker 4 (28:35):
Chris, tell me more, Chris.
Speaker 2 (28:38):
Am, I good? Am? I clear?
Speaker 1 (28:39):
Yeah, you're very clear. But Ryan, he's still having audio issues.
Speaker 4 (28:43):
Apparently he mixed over.
Speaker 6 (28:46):
Yeah, like I have the box store pulled up here
from the Super Bowl and you know, eight for one,
fifty seven and two touchdowns from a receiver you'd expect
to win the game and not lose by eighteen.
Speaker 2 (28:56):
But yeah, I don't remember what it was.
Speaker 6 (28:57):
I think you had a couple of receptions for like
nine yards at one point, and it was like through
the third quarter.
Speaker 2 (29:03):
Yeah, it was. Yeah, I mean that. I mean that
whole Super Bowl it was.
Speaker 6 (29:08):
It was an ass whipping from start to finish until,
you know, until the backups came in. Everyone's like, oh,
what a bomb by Patrick Mahomes and it's like cool,
you're doing that against their third string, you know, final
preseason game lineup. Essentially that's out there.
Speaker 4 (29:23):
I mean, as the Eagles are running base defense.
Speaker 2 (29:26):
Yeah, exactly. I saw a video today.
Speaker 6 (29:28):
I can't remember who it was on, but it was
a show that Shady's on. I believe Lashawan McCoy and uh,
whoever he was with, asked the guy that was on there,
I'll find the clip and you know, send it to
you guys. But they asked, when did you need to
know this the game was over? It was one of
the Chiefs players. He's like, when did you know like
this was done? He goes with like thirty Oh it
(29:48):
was Emmanuel Acco show and he goes, uh.
Speaker 2 (29:51):
The guy laughed and he goes, was when it was
thirty four? Nothing?
Speaker 6 (29:54):
And then Shady goes, was it when Kenny Pickett came
in the game.
Speaker 1 (30:00):
The most super Bowl champion Kenny Pickett?
Speaker 2 (30:03):
And uh, I mean that's what the guy said.
Speaker 6 (30:05):
He goes, you know, and he goes, you don't see
a Super Bowl with many backup quarterbacks coming into the
game like that, right right?
Speaker 1 (30:12):
Yeah? I can't remember the last one. I think it
was the forty nine Ers. Well no, I mean, I'm
sure it wasn't that. But the last one that I
vividly remember was the forty nine Ers Chargers where Steve
Young had the monkey ripped off his back. I think
the backup saw some playing time in that one too,
And I remember it being.
Speaker 4 (30:27):
Talked, how about Carson Wentz having to watch his backup
quarterback win the Super Bowl for the Eagles twice in
his life.
Speaker 1 (30:38):
Well, let's see. I think there's a sound for that.
Speaker 4 (30:40):
Hold on, Yeah, that's fair, That's very fair. I mean again,
super Bowl felt very cathartic. Looking looking back at the
Bills here, they've got a lot of pending UFAs, a
lot of a lot of important people that are for renewal.
Speaker 2 (31:01):
What is like?
Speaker 4 (31:02):
What the am I talking about? They're free agents locks
I have here. Read Ferguson long Snapper. I can't imagine
he's going towhere. Same with Reggie Gilliam mac Collins. I
have him as a lock. I think it may cost
a little more money to get him to come back
to Buffalo because I feel like teams like Houston may
want That's one team I saw tied to him. They
love the fact that he is all in on being
(31:23):
a leader in terms of blocking, in terms of being
a character, being a good locker room guy, making sure
that he's doing all the little things and getting everybody
else to buy in, because that makes a big difference.
Speaking of running back Ty Johnson, same thing may cost
a little more. I think he comes back. I've got
Amari Cooper down as a lock. Not sure yet how
(31:44):
the lock might kind of slightly be locked but still unlockable.
I'm not sure yet. I had Damarrow Hammond down as
a lock.
Speaker 1 (31:50):
But the let me, you know what, It's funny because
I wanted to ask the both of you, knowing that
the both of you were were going to be together
in this setting. Here, where are we at with Tamar Hamlin?
Because the bills household that I was in, we're okay
with him, but also thinking they could probably do without
(32:11):
and upgrade. But what's say? What what say you guys?
How where are we at with with Tomorrow Hamlin?
Speaker 6 (32:19):
I think it's a situation and this is I say
this with the utmost respect for you know, what has
happened is part of it, I think is you know,
you have an amazing story. He has an amazing story.
How you know, died on the field, you know, came
back played, still didn't win Comeback Player the Year twice
maybe next year. But I think it's also one of
(32:39):
those like you want to, you know, do right and
let him play, but also there is very much a
detriment in that area when he was on the field,
you know, so I think if you know, do you
want to win a game or do you want to
you know, have a field good story. If you want
to have a field good story, I say you keep them.
But if you you know, you want to improve, I
think that is an area you have to look at.
(33:00):
And whether it's through the draft or through free agency,
and you know, keep him as a backup, keep him
as a you know, an extra death guy if he
wants that, but also realize that that upgrade probably has
to happen.
Speaker 2 (33:12):
Sure, Ryan, you know, go Ryan. I'll let you talk myself.
Speaker 1 (33:18):
I thought I thought you were done. I'm sorry, it
was it was coming down like you were landing the plane.
Speaker 2 (33:22):
And then you know, you're good. You're good, You're good.
Go ahead.
Speaker 4 (33:24):
I'm gonna strategically, I'm gonna strategically meet myself here. Hey, guys,
you can go yourself.
Speaker 2 (33:33):
Talk to ourselves.
Speaker 4 (33:36):
I said the effort when I muted myself, so that
way you can. I don't know, because I'll forget, I'll
forget to edit it out, and then I'll say it's
a clean podcast, kids, And then you know, a five
year old listens and says, always said that Ford, you know,
whatever it is, what it is. I'm probably here speaking
of the speaking of the efford we're talking about tomorrow,
Hamlet Kayer Elim. I will buy your plane ticket out
(33:58):
of town, dude.
Speaker 1 (33:59):
Anyway way, anyways, you know Ryan didn't give his answer
about tomor Hamlin.
Speaker 4 (34:03):
Though, Tomar Hamlin, I thought Chris. I thought Chris was
gonna say when he said respect, I thought I was
gonna say respect for the dead. But that would be
my joke because I'm come on, look Hamlin, that we
forgot about the game from early last season when we
were talking about the Buffalo Bill's record overtime and couldn't
(34:26):
figure out where that sue Chris and John. That is
what happens when there is like a PTSD type thing. Yeah,
you just kind of it just like becomes like a
like a protein on your brain or whatever it is.
It just you just never go there again.
Speaker 2 (34:42):
Tomar Hamlin now accord.
Speaker 1 (34:43):
Having said that the evil side of me and then
I'll shut up. Oh yeah, in postop listening, there is
kind of humor to us discovering that on air in
real time. I mean, I thought it was kind of
funny and you know, thinking about it, but like us
realizing that we completely blacked it out. Like that's the
(35:04):
funny part, not the situation. The situation is freaking what
happens man?
Speaker 6 (35:08):
Yeah, listen, any I just want to add this one
bit on DeMar Hamlin. If they do move on from
him and he does go elsewhere, I hope we keep
the his number on the ambulance because I enjoy the
means of it being the ambulance.
Speaker 4 (35:21):
And never forget, never forget the ambulance, man. That is
that is one thing where.
Speaker 5 (35:28):
Oh shit, you die on a football field. I did
not know about that one.
Speaker 1 (35:34):
I did not know about it.
Speaker 4 (35:35):
There are memes about it, John, We'll get them. We'll
get them in the chat here real quick. But yes,
the you die not only look at not only do
mar Hamlin. Do you die on the field and the
best thing they do for you is give you an ambulance.
But how can this man who has died on a
football field and come back to life to play football
(35:55):
at a relatively reasonable clip but I would say above average?
How can this guy lose Comeback Player of the Year twice?
Speaker 1 (36:05):
Yeah, I don't get that at all.
Speaker 2 (36:06):
He died on the field.
Speaker 1 (36:08):
That what I gotta do. I'll never under I'll never
understand that, never understand that at all.
Speaker 4 (36:14):
Well, I said to Chris, I said, what does he
gotta do?
Speaker 8 (36:16):
Die?
Speaker 4 (36:17):
And Chris goes, well, then he wouldn't It wouldn't be comeback,
would it. And I'm like, I guess he got a
good point there, thank you. But tomorrow, Hamlin all respect,
put some respect back on a man's name. Accordian Pro
Football Focus Again. I always say this, but we know
Pro Football Focus is not the end all be all.
But I don't have enough time in my life to
(36:37):
grade this stuff myself, nor do I know where to start.
With that being said, against the Chiefs, Tomorr Hamlin's twenty
seven point five grade from Pro Football Focus was the
worst among the Buffalo Bills defense this year. Among one
hundred and seventy safeties, his grade of sixty point two
was one hundred and seventh. He played the forty most
snaps out of those one hundred and seventy players. He
(36:58):
did have two interceptions, which was awesome. But I feel
like the Buffalo Bills may be transitioning more towards putting
more on Cold Bishop's plate, allowing DeMar Hammond to maybe
walk or take a lesser role and Taylor Rapp. When
Taylor rap is on the field with Demorr Hammlon helps
cover up those those issues that Damar Hamlin has. But
it just doesn't look like Damar Hammon is able to
(37:19):
step up into that bigger role and be the guy
when the time comes. Now. Also another thing that I
think of that I'm kind of connecting the dots to
that I will pull out of a later on part
of the podcast and bring it up here. But the
man who was credited with saving the life of Deamar
Hamlin has gotten a promotion, and that promotion is I'm
(37:46):
trying to pace it here and it's not letting me whatever.
That promotion for Denny Kellington is joining the Carolina Panthers
as the VP of Player Health and Performance. So he
has left the organization to take a bigger job. Well
deserved understandably, but people think that maybe that means DeMar
Hammond may go to Carolina. There's talking him going to
(38:09):
Pittsburgh because he's a Pittsburgh nay To, he played for
he played uh, he's from the area, play the or whatever.
There's there's a potential of that. I think the Bills
will bring him back if if the price is right,
but I can't imagine they're going to trip over themselves
to spend more than what they feel he's worth.
Speaker 1 (38:24):
And there will be a market for him. Some team
will get will we'll pick him up, and we'll use
him and and he will still be able to have
his story. So you know where he lands, he'll land,
whether or not. I just wondered from you guys. You know, if,
if you like, we're married to the idea of him
continue landing here in Buffalo.
Speaker 4 (38:46):
No, I'm married to the idea of getting better. And
I think that even though DeMar Hammon has stepped up
and grown since he was drafted by the Buffalo Bills
and since he first took the field where you, you're
giving him the kayr Elm treatment of Buddy. I will,
I will take you, sorry, dumps, I will take I
will take you to the airport. I will load your
bags onto the plane for you, and I will buy
(39:08):
the ticket to send you out of town. He's done
enough to keep a stick around if if the Buffalo
Bills can get him back at the right price. But
if you want to be more serious about having solid,
more solid depth, especially because Taylor rat plays the game viciously.
You're gonna need to get someone better in that depth role,
(39:29):
then excuse me than Demorrow Hamlin now looking defensively, A
lot of the defensive line is up for free agency.
Defensive tackle Austin Johnson, he played one hundred and fifth.
These are off per Pro Football focused. I'm not gonna
repeat myself. You know how we feel about it, but
one hundred and fifth out of two hundred and nineteen
defensive interior players in snaps, one hundred and thirteenth overall,
(39:53):
he get eight pressures, which puts him at one hundred
and ninth. Tommy Doyle not enough snaps on the offensive line.
Quarterback Rasoul Douglas one hundred and thirty secon have two
hundred and twenty three cornerbacks, he was thirty seventh in snaps.
Again another player or if you can get it back
at the right price, more than happy to see him here.
Jordan Phillips one hundred and eighty ninth out of two
hundred and nineteen players defensive interiors, one hundred and fifty
ninth and snaps. Quinton Jefferson one hundred and forty fourth
(40:15):
of two hundred and nineteen defensive interiors. He was one
hundred and twenty fifth in snaps, but he did have
thirteen pressures, which puts him eighty ninth out of two
hundred nineteen. So again, when when he's in he's been
able to be effective, that's great to see. And the
defensive Enduayne Smoot one hundred and twenty ninth of two
hundred and eleven defensive ends. I'll just put it there.
I can't remember what the word is. They use hundred
(40:36):
first and snaps, eleven pressures, which puts him at one
hundred and fifteen out of two hundred eleven players. So again,
there'd be a lot of depth players. I think the
Buffalo Bills will continue to do what they've been doing
with shifting guys in and out. I mean, as we
saw during the regular season, von Miller did not play
a lot in the regular season, but in the postseason
ramped it up. Let him play a ton. One thing
(40:58):
that I did want to touch on here really quick,
Keon Coleman. Brandon Bean said he was disappointed in Kean Coleman.
Thirteen games this year, twenty nine receptions on seven fifty
seven targets for five hundred and fifty six yards and
four receiving touchdowns. Brandon Bean said quote, I would say
probably was a little disappointed in the return from the
injury for Coleman. Obviously, I did not see the same
player down the stretch from a physicality. Some from physicality,
(41:20):
some of the things that he needs to use his size,
Some of that is youth, Some of that is I'm
not sure how many injuries he had to overcome and
season and come back. That takes a certain experience level
how to deal with an injury and how to return.
He has a skill set that we think will play
well in this offense, but it's up to him. He's
gonna have to work very hard the softseason, him and
Josh continue to work on that report together. But I'm
optimistic that he'll do those things and we'll see him
continue to improve going into year two. So that sounds
(41:42):
like some very constructive criticism.
Speaker 1 (41:45):
Very constructive criticism. There sounds a lot like he almost
kind of to the point we were making a little
while ago about him and his progression and where we
think we may see that. This is him essentially saying
I'd like to see a lot from year one into
year two. In the offseason, So This is probably going
(42:07):
to be where offensive coordinator Joe Brady mixes him in
a little bit more, factors him in into the scheme
a little bit more, and then in practice as he
gets his reps with it is where you're going to see,
you know, any improvement, any any you know kind of
how his reaction and timing all of that stuff. So
(42:27):
he's mirroring and echoing the sentiments of seemingly a lot
of Bill's Mafia.
Speaker 2 (42:33):
Yeah, I think ke.
Speaker 6 (42:34):
I think he also benefit if Amari sticks around. I
feel like their style can you know, can be very
similar with you know, the ability to go up and
get a ball, but also create some quick separation. It
was interesting seeing the numbers after his injury and before
his injury. I think he showed flashes beforehand got hurt
and then, you know, like being said, not sure how
(42:55):
he bounces back after an injury, but you know, now
he gets a full season with Josh and Joe and
hopefully Cooper sticking around, that you know he can be
a viable threat in the second year.
Speaker 1 (43:06):
Sure and hopefully you know, it's not like a Ben Simmons.
He's not like a Ben Simmons kind of personality. You
know what I mean, where Ben Simmons was great starting
off and then he got hurt and then he hasn't
been the same since. And I'm hoping that's not the
case for Keon Coleman. Too early to call there, but
you know, I certainly wouldn't want him to be Buffalo's
(43:28):
Ben Simmons.
Speaker 4 (43:29):
Well, I think right now too. It's it's something that
it looks as if you know, the Buffalo Bills aren't
married to anybody except for Josh Allen, right, so it's
not necessarily and this is just this is just me
like trying to make you know, the fifty thousand foot view,
trying to just look at that and split those split
the fine hairs here. But the thought being is that
(43:51):
if Keon doesn't come back and that ends up being
his ceiling, as you know, thirty catches for six five
hundred and fifty six hundred yards and four touchdowns, the
Bills won't be afraid to move on because again, they're
in a spot right now where they need a guy
like him, and they need a guy like him to
step up and do something bigger, and if he can't
be a part of it, they'll find someone else who
(44:13):
can be a part of it. I don't think they're
afraid to do that, especially because this was a rebuild year.
This was a reset, this was let's get money off
the books. Let's move forward and see what happened.
Speaker 1 (44:21):
And it's great that you said that they're not married
to anybody but Josh Allen because and the reason for
that is because the Josh Allens along the course of
NFL history, the Josh Allens are very rare. You have
to kind of build everything around a player like that
who consistently plays well no matter who he's throwing to.
(44:43):
He's had quite a few receivers over the course of
the lifetime of this podcast, and he's made every single
one of them better. So, yes, they're married to him.
The others need to step up. The Buffalo Bills have
shown that they're very they're very good at finding talent
and coach talent up and building from the ground up.
You know, everybody is expendable, and that's where I think
(45:07):
the mind shift of the coaching staff should focus and
maybe perhaps let everybody know that and start opening up
competitions over you know, overall all positions except for quarterback,
and you know, made the best person win. Maybe that's it.
I agree.
Speaker 4 (45:26):
I agree with that, and real quick too before we
take a commercial break. Safety Micah Hyde official announced his
retirement as expected after twelve seasons in the NFL. He said,
quote so much love and way too many thanks, from
Fostoria to Iowa City, to Green Bay to Buffalo. The
goal was to leave an impact that was one hell
of a dream onto the next one.
Speaker 2 (45:42):
Mh.
Speaker 4 (45:43):
He played one hundred and fifty one hundred and fifty
eight games in eleven seasons, ninety five games and seven
seasons with the Buffalo Bills, six hundred and forty four
combined tackle, five sacks, twenty four picks, sixty six passes defended,
five forced fumbles, and eight fumbles recovered. A hat tip
from all of us that trust the podcast and Michael
Height on an incredible career in the national.
Speaker 1 (46:03):
Absolutely, congratulations on a great career, Mike Hid. I know
you will listen to us, so uh, you know, thanks
for listening. But congratulations. Nonetheless, thank you for for your
dedicated service to the field and the game of football
from all your fans. You're well wishes, Chris.
Speaker 4 (46:22):
You want to say something nice, Chris, say something nice
to Michael.
Speaker 6 (46:26):
Oh, thank you, Michael Hyde. I had to make sure
I got it all in there before I got cut
off by Ryan.
Speaker 7 (46:31):
Again, we have we have apologies to mister and missus
Downey and then baby boy Downy getting cut off by Ryan.
Speaker 4 (46:41):
What oh, I can I can remove? Let me remove
that user from this from this meeting here.
Speaker 1 (46:46):
Real, you do that? So you know what? We're way over?
We need a commercial break.
Speaker 4 (46:50):
You know what we're gonna do right now?
Speaker 1 (46:52):
John, what are we gonna do?
Speaker 2 (46:53):
Take a commercial break.
Speaker 4 (46:55):

Oh thanks John, glad to be doing this live. H
This will be quick. Uh huh.
Speaker 6 (48:42):
Eagles with an ask kicking in the Super Bowl over
the Chiefs. It was absolutely glorious, amazing. I thought you
were just gonna say nothing has happened because the.
Speaker 1 (48:53):
No, we have not we have not recorded, we have
not recorded. That was beautiful. I loved the improv of that.
Speaker 2 (49:00):
I just I want to point out two things. We'll
keep it short and sweet. Uh.
Speaker 6 (49:04):
Eagles wyd beat the Commanders. Convinced anything fife in the
NFC Championship, go to the Super Bowl. Wonder who wins
and it's the Eagles. Ask kicking over the Chiefs your
fun stat and I'll turn it back over to Ryan.
Speaker 2 (49:16):
Eagles.
Speaker 6 (49:17):
They won sixteen out of their last seventeen games dating
back to their loss over the Bucks. They only lost
one other game, and that was on.
Speaker 2 (49:29):
A couple of weeks for the season. I don't know
the date. I haven't pulled up though.
Speaker 6 (49:31):
It's against the Commanders and it was on the Jade
and Daniels last second with like their oh second touchdown.
Speaker 4 (49:38):
That was their last one loss.
Speaker 2 (49:40):
That was their only loss since Week four.
Speaker 4 (49:45):
In time too, that was the Jalen Hurts game where
he got his face stuffed into the turf and came
up and did not he was not in He may
have been in Washington, but it was Washington State, it
was not Washington, DC.
Speaker 2 (49:57):
Yes, so that is your fun fact.
Speaker 6 (49:59):
The Eagles rattled off sixteen of seventeen wins I of
the year.
Speaker 1 (50:03):
I can't believe how low that stat flew under the radar.
I feel like I feel like that hasn't been highlighted
or mentioned in all.
Speaker 4 (50:13):
I didn't share this with you guys either, but thanks
to the uh. Saquon Barkley is a dude's dude, a
good friend. He was on Jimmy can or Who's on
Jimmy Fallon tonight show Jimmy Fallon, which what an epic
fall from grace from Jimmy Fallon off to talk about
that at sometimes remember when he was doing really good
Top show and then he like fluffed Donald Trump on
(50:34):
air and everyone's like, this guy's stupid as hell and
they stopped watching him. Really funny how you can destroy
your own career that way. But anyways, Jalen hurts Saquon Barkley,
we're going to be on Jimmy Fallon, and Saquon Barkley
reportedly said, I'll be on if the offensive line can
be on. They all showed up with him and also
How does one thank an offensive line for the most
(50:57):
rushing yards in a season, regular season and postseasond How
about guys, you know those big old trucks that are
at like your local speedway if you're in Western New York,
that are full of beer? Yes, how about one full
truck of bud light for each individual offensive lineman as
a thank you from Saquon Barkley.
Speaker 1 (51:18):
Wow, that's quite a bit of beer.
Speaker 4 (51:22):
That's a lot of beer.
Speaker 1 (51:23):
That's pretty freaking awesome.
Speaker 4 (51:25):
That's a gift right there. I'll tell you what I
try to be. I try to be creative with gifts.
That takes the cake and indeed, looking ahead, Josh Allen
put some respect on his name league MVP, the NFL
MVP from a one zero star recruit to the twenty
twenty four NFL MVP. I think the guy the fix
(51:47):
was kind of in. I was at a concert that
night with my wife and I saw that. I believe
Chris told me, or it was a different friend group.
I can't remember. Chris is usually very on top of
the stuff that I miss, which is why this is
such a fruitful friendship, because we're always going back and
forth like a tennis match with weird inane things that
(52:09):
John just giggles at, which I really love. But I
was told that Lamar Jackson did not show up to
the to the NFL Honors, and I'm like, at this point,
he probably did not win, didn't.
Speaker 2 (52:22):
I believe I saw something? Was it?
Speaker 6 (52:25):
I don't remember what year with Josh Allen a few
years ago? Did not show up, and I believe he
was playing trivia with some of the Barstool guys. They are,
they're in orange jumpsuits. I can find it and share
it if you guys are not.
Speaker 4 (52:39):
Yeah, that'd be great.
Speaker 1 (52:40):
I didn't. I'm not a big fan of the NFL
Honors as a production, to be honest, I thought you
were gonna say, you're not a big fan of Barstool.
No I'm not. I'm not a big fan of Barstool either,
but I'm not. I'm not a big fan of the NFL.
So I didn't watch the ceremony, but I was following
through you guys in the tax and when I learned that,
you know, Josh Allen had won the MVP, I wanted
(53:02):
to check the speech the next day just because I
wanted to see what he would say. And boy, he
can that man deliver a speech like that. He hit
all the points, you know.
Speaker 4 (53:17):
He called out slick Rick.
Speaker 1 (53:19):
Yep, slick Rick. And and then you saw the video.
I think the Bills put it out there. They interviewed
him and he got all emotional because he was like,
he mentioned me by name in front of national television.
It's pretty awesome.
Speaker 2 (53:31):
Did you I was about to say, did you no?
Speaker 6 (53:36):
I know, I didn't slick Rick apparently let me go
find it here on Twitter. Yes, courtesy of Andy Young TV.
On on Twitter. He got a courtesy car or a
car courtesy of West Hare. Got a nice uh nice
new car because apparently he had been taking public transit
for for numerous years to work.
Speaker 4 (53:57):
Oh wow.
Speaker 6 (53:59):
He got an Chevy Traverse and had been taking a
bus for over fifteen years. Oh wow. And that was
very awesome, very awesome. Here listen, he's keeping to the bit.
And this is not a slight to slick Rick, but
he's keeping to the bit. He he still has his
lanyard with his ID badge and microphone on like he
did in in.
Speaker 2 (54:17):
The video at the practice facility.
Speaker 1 (54:19):
He knows this gimmick.
Speaker 6 (54:21):
Oh hey, shout out to all the slick around.
Speaker 1 (54:25):
He so he knows the gimmick real quick.
Speaker 4 (54:28):
Some changes here. First off, Demorrow Hammin has mentioned a
comeback Player of the Year finalist offensive coordinator Joe Brady
assistant Coach of the Year finalists. We talked about Super
Bowl Licks Philadelphia completely shell lacing the Kansas City Chiefs
of just making me a happy a happy boy. Not
that they did it for me specifically, but I envisioned
(54:48):
the How.
Speaker 1 (54:49):
Come when I keep scrolling down, there's more and more?
How long is this podcast?
Speaker 4 (54:53):
So I actually because this one is a little different
in terms of the format, I wanted to make sure
that I copied the format so I didn't lose it
for next year. Oh okay, thinking outside the box. Brother, Hi.
Buffalo Fires special teams coach Matthew Smiley. He's been the
special teams coach for the last three years. There were
multiple instances of wrong number of players on the field
(55:15):
or incorrect personnel. They allowed the fifth highest yards per
kickoff return in twenty twenty four at thirty point eight
yards per return. Rick Gosling, who special team's rankings are
considered quote the gold standard, had Smiley's unit ranked fifth
and twenty twenty two, twenty eighth, and twenty twenty three,
and Bill Huber, who took over Goslin's retirement after Goslin retired,
ranked Buffalo twenty seventh. In twenty twenty four. Buffalo reportedly
(55:37):
fire strength and a digiting coach. Eric I believe it's Siano.
I have no idea. You guys know how I am
with names, but he was employed with the franchise since
twenty thirteen. Ryan Nilsen is joining the Buffalo Bills as
a defensive senior defensive assistant. Again a big reason why
I think there's gonna be some changes on the defensive
side of things. Bring in some extra brains and some
extra eyes and some extra experience to change things up
(56:00):
a bit. Because again I know there is so such
thing as too many cooks in the kitchen. But when
he got us start to think of things and try
to beat the Kansas City Chiefs among other teams, it
never hurts. Nielsen has been a coach since two thousand
and five. Worked in the NCAA until twenty seventeen. He
worked his way up in New Orleans until leaving to
become the defensive coordinator of the Atlanta Falcons. In twenty
twenty three. He also spent twenty twenty four as the
(56:21):
defensive coordinator in Jacksonville. Per the Athletic, he drew high
interest from multiple teams in this cycle. On per SI
dot com quote, Nielsen has notable experience in designing and
operating a man coverage scheme. During the twenty twenty four season,
the Buffalo Bills defense played a heavy amount of zone
coverage seventy one point three percent and only blitz twelve
point eight percent of the time, one of the lowest
rates in the National Football League. In the playoffs, the
(56:42):
Buffalo Bills reduced their own coverage to less than sixty
percent of the plays and ran more man demand coverage
with occasional blizzes to pressure opposing quarterbacks. So it looks
like they have recognized a weakness and they are going
to work to make it a strength strength. Speaking of
Mike Peltgrino also joins the Buffalo Bills defensive staff. As
they reported, nickel Backs coach, not nickelback coach like the band,
(57:03):
like Rockstar like the nickel Backs. That was thank you
John for the police, please thank you word laughter this
time worked for the New England Patriots from twenty fifteen
to twenty twenty four as a coaching assistant and subsequently
as their cornerbacks coach. Per Pro Football Talk, he will
work closely with cornerbacks coach Jamila Daye in safetiess coach
(57:23):
Mike Dana. But also a big thing here, Pellegrino helped
coach Stefan Gilmore, J C. Jackson, and Christian Gonzales to
All Pro recognition. So this man is gonna work with
tarn Johnson, among others. So damn, that's gonna be a
lot of fun to watch.
Speaker 6 (57:44):
You know, it's interesting. I like seeing these coaching changes,
especially early on. You know, they're not waiting waiting till
June July, post draft, post free agency to make these decisions.
I think the Smiley decisions interesting, not you know, taking
a side here, but you know, Sean McDermott at what
was his end of season conference press conference, Uh, was
(58:06):
you know, gonna look at you know film?
Speaker 2 (58:08):
I believe it was.
Speaker 6 (58:09):
But also it's like, yeah, I know he'll be here
next year, and then two weeks later he's gone. So
I did enjoy the meme sloating around of saying, oh,
he actually looked at film and took the time to realize.
Speaker 2 (58:19):
There were issues going on.
Speaker 4 (58:20):
Happened what happened?
Speaker 2 (58:23):
I do too. I uh, you know it's you know,
someone says, hey, you got it. You know, we're confident.
You know, he'll learn from your mistakes. You know.
Speaker 6 (58:29):
I guess he will learn from his mistakes at another
NFL organization next year.
Speaker 4 (58:38):
Yeah, I mean, I was gonna the one thing I
wanted to ask from you guys here now, wrapping things
up here, we'll talk soon. I'm not sure when life
is busy. I'm going to Kansas again. We all got
things going on. Uh, on the on.
Speaker 1 (58:50):
They gotta get up and at least have some sort
of baseball podcast on the personal injury front, John, I
need to tell you this is very important, John, mm hmm.
Speaker 4 (59:00):
I finally got vaccinated again, so I should not be
getting sick anymore. Right as the season ends, I'm feeling good.
Speaker 1 (59:07):
Breaking New Brian got faxed.
Speaker 4 (59:14):
It's funny because the doctor, Chris, the doctor told me,
he goes, he looked me dead in the face and goes,
these are so bad. It looks like you were not vaccinate,
that you're just not vaxed. And I said, that is
exactly what I was going for.
Speaker 1 (59:27):
And then the silence or after the you know, he
touched your you know area for the physical.
Speaker 4 (59:36):
Oh no, doctor got to touch my pp and this
time John.
Speaker 1 (59:39):
Oh no no, no, bunch of polkes.
Speaker 4 (59:41):
No no, no, no, no, no no. That's why I stop
by your house afterwards for John.
Speaker 1 (59:46):
Oh yes, well you know what doors wide open, buddy,
h yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah yea.
Speaker 4 (59:50):
Anyways, yeah, so, uh wrapping up, what do you guys
think about the Bills season?
Speaker 6 (59:58):
I have one I have one question is I know
it's probably gonna get touched on, but who knows them
we'll be together again, all three of us.
Speaker 4 (01:00:07):
Christ in twenty minutes when we text each other in
the text.
Speaker 6 (01:00:10):
But you know, podcast wise. The other news that kind
of the other news that started leaking was the the rumor,
the the suspicion of a certain Bills running back wanting
high dollar.
Speaker 1 (01:00:26):
Uh yeah, top dollar.
Speaker 2 (01:00:27):
Who knows.
Speaker 6 (01:00:28):
I bring it up because who knows when we'll be together?
Who knows if there would be movement on that by
the time.
Speaker 4 (01:00:33):
Let's put it this way, it's the silly season for
the National Football League. Indeed, there's gonna be a whole
lot of Wolf and a whole lot of people, A
whole lot of people, Wolf and a whole lot.
Speaker 1 (01:00:44):
Of ship right on want who's winning the off season?
Speaker 4 (01:00:48):
But well, we'll we'll talk about that. We have not
we have not yet reached the best shape of my
life season yet in the foot in the national football
You give it a couple more weeks, we'll start to
get around the draft, We'll start to hear about guys
many camps and I'm in the best shape of my life, brother,
I've been, but whatever, and then the guy you know
tears his acl and in September pay yeah, exactly, Yeah,
And you know food in La beats up a couple,
(01:01:11):
beats up a couple of people, and uh, well, you know,
has sex with his best friend's wife on camera, gets called.
Speaker 1 (01:01:17):
Out for being a racist low key on the McAfee show. Yeah,
you guys see that, right with all Gogan, that was
that was incredible freakish.
Speaker 4 (01:01:28):
But I feel like once you walk through that door,
m hm. And you got to go to one Bill's driving,
look Brandon Bean in the eye in the face and
say and Sean mcderbott and say, I ain't playing unless
I get fifteen a year.
Speaker 1 (01:01:42):
I think good luck.
Speaker 4 (01:01:44):
It doesn't deserve it.
Speaker 2 (01:01:45):
Does he deserve it?
Speaker 4 (01:01:46):
Yes?
Speaker 1 (01:01:47):
Look, yeah, no, he deserves it. But I don't think
he's quite at the level where he should be making
those kinds of commands just yet.
Speaker 4 (01:01:54):
Like I feel like some people have mentioned, and I
don't want to point fingers, but Alvin Cook, lack of
a better explanation, wolf's a ton of shit, right. A
lot of people think that maybe his brother has just
gotten a little too far in his ear. It's like, bro,
get your cash while you can. And believe me, the
(01:02:15):
audience knows this. Get your bag while you can.
Speaker 1 (01:02:18):
Yeah, I mean, at the same time looking out for himself.
But in the same you know you're in a good situation.
And that's usually what happens when good players in a
good situation think that they're the reason. So not necessarily
the sole reason for it, but that one of the
main reasons for it. And he may have an argument
for sure, But in the same the Buffalo Bills have
(01:02:41):
adjusted very well with whatever pieces that have moved out
of their out of their place. So it's like again,
married to Josh Allen, not not not to not to
this kid.
Speaker 4 (01:02:53):
Hey, and if you know what happens. If you fuck around,
you're gonna find out at some point in time. And
you know what, the first thing I thought of when
James Cook said I want fifteen mil or he liked
the comment about getting fifteen million a year?
Speaker 1 (01:03:08):
What's that?
Speaker 4 (01:03:08):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (01:03:09):
He was the one that made it and pinned it.
Not good luck?
Speaker 4 (01:03:12):
Good luck playing for the Cleveland Browns when excuse me,
you get traded for Miles Garrett or something, you know
right right?
Speaker 2 (01:03:21):
I had two thoughts when I saw it. You hit
on the Dalvin Cook.
Speaker 6 (01:03:25):
It reminded me a lot of the Diggs brothers, but
also the the idea that Brandon Bean doesn't want to
pay top dollar for running back. I've seen that float
around two. Also, you got a lot of areas to
upgrade on the other side of the ball before you
start paying.
Speaker 4 (01:03:44):
I exactly, I think what's going to happen? And I
don't have my I got to get this up in
front of me really quick.
Speaker 2 (01:03:50):
Here.
Speaker 4 (01:03:53):
I think what will end up happening? Because right now
James Cook is going into finally final year of his deal,
a five point six to two million dollar cap hit
he's gonna make, He's gonna he's gonna make a base
salary of five point one to nine million, right, darn.
I think what will happen is he maybe he'll get
(01:04:15):
a short term Maybe they'll he'll get a short term
extension that'll take him to like you know, age twenty eight.
Rip up the final year of this deal and give
him some cash, give him some more cash. I can't
imagine that the Buffalo Bills are in a spot right
now where they want to commit long term, but we
can talk about that more. I know this podcast has
gone very long, and we've talked about touching and squirting
(01:04:35):
and leaking and the Bills, Josh Allen and all sorts
of different things. It's it's a normal better live than
Trust the podcast dead show. Mm hmm.
Speaker 1 (01:04:46):
Indeed, it's the season finale.
Speaker 4 (01:04:48):
It is. It's the season finale for now, and then
we'll talk about the season coming up again. Oh also, John,
I before we wrap up, well, first off, I just
want to say I extend we extend all of our
well wishes to one mister Perez who tried to his body,
tried to sell him out. He's doing much better now,
(01:05:11):
but he's on the mend. Hopefully we'll talk to him soon.
You're in a podcast, but indeed, get well soon, mister
Perez and h shut.
Speaker 2 (01:05:20):
Up, Chris, I wasn't even talking.
Speaker 1 (01:05:24):
That's this time.
Speaker 6 (01:05:25):
Yeah, but I will say, you know, last year this
time I'd only done the new logo in mock and
now I'm a part of it.
Speaker 2 (01:05:33):
So thank you guys for that.
Speaker 1 (01:05:34):
Welcome on I budget, Chris, I am reading. I am
wearing the logo on my chest right now as we speak.
Speaker 4 (01:05:42):
Hold on real quick, real quick. I of have to
take a picture intend to you guys because I have
a camera on this computer. But uh same weird how
that works out. But thank you to Chris John. Thank
you as well for all the time, for all the effort,
for all the the late nights of of you know,
(01:06:02):
making this work around cheerleading, family, friends, everything else that's
going on work Chris, the commitment to again doing everything
that you've done. Uh, maybe we can Uh.
Speaker 1 (01:06:18):
I turned the camera on.
Speaker 4 (01:06:19):
I did, I did see it? Yeah I did there,
but it was it was maybe Chris can be. Maybe
Chris can be.
Speaker 1 (01:06:25):
We got to talk about this.
Speaker 4 (01:06:26):
We gotta have a meeting that, but maybe Chris can be.
Uh uh elevated to unpaid correspondent or something. I don't know,
that would be really funny. But at the same time, again,
it's been a lot of fun.
Speaker 1 (01:06:38):
Maybe we can bring him on every week just to
have you cut him off after every three words or he.
Speaker 4 (01:06:44):
Says like a half a sentence and I just go
thanks Chris, and that's it. You know, it will come
up with something wunder but anyway, right now, yeah, but anyways,
you're welcome as always. Let's get Chris Berman in here
real quick.
Speaker 1 (01:07:01):
One more time, one more time, Boomer, Let's hear it.
Speaker 6 (01:07:05):
No one circles the wagons like the Buffalo bills.
Speaker 4 (01:07:09):
For Chris Downey, for Johnsonmino. I am Ryan Wolf as always,
we are trust the podcast. You're not Chris. You can
also do it too.
Speaker 2 (01:07:20):
You are also not. Thank you.
Speaker 4 (01:07:23):
We will catch you, same time, same place, not next week,
in a few weeks, a few months, who knows, the
draft will be right around the corner. Before you know what,
the sun we'll start to see the sun again. We'll
start to get the draft Mini camp, brother summer football
training camp. John's gonna try to get us to watch
the UFL, which I don't know if that's gonna happen.
Speaker 1 (01:07:40):
It's gonna happen. Maybe let's go DC.
Speaker 4 (01:07:43):
One of the teams has got a lot of really
good players on it. We'll talk about it off the air.
But again, thank you everybody for tuning in, for continuing
to stick with us, for waiting for this episode. I
know this breaks everything that John and I and Chris
all believe in in terms of making sure we get
out quality content in a timely fashion. But again, if
the Bills had won, we would have made it work.
(01:08:04):
They lost. We wanted to let it sit a bit because.
Speaker 1 (01:08:07):
The damn episode. They know what they know what it
was about.
Speaker 4 (01:08:11):
Thank you John, Thank you John.
Speaker 1 (01:08:15):
They're welcome.
Speaker 4 (01:08:16):
Well anyways, with that being said, I think we just
need a little time apart.
Speaker 8 (01:08:20):
Right now, Go Bills, gotcha, everybody.
Speaker 1 (01:08:40):
The preceding presentation has been brought to you
Speaker 4 (01:08:42):
By the Gear Network.
