This year is episode one seventy.
Speaker 1 (00:28):
Five, And for the first time today I am saying
episode one seven five people Buffalo Josh Allens versus the
Baltimore Ravens at Josh Allen. He's such a hunk, isn't he. Ryan.
Speaker 3 (00:43):
Yeah, that's the second time we did the intro because
right afterwards I said, you know, one seventy four feels
pretty uh amused already, feels pretty used already. And I
went and looked at the website Better Live than Dead
dot com cheap plug and yep, this is one seventy five.
So welcome, Welcome to the first game of the season,
which I mean it's it's I'd look at my watch

Speaker 3 (01:47):
The Buffalo Bill's John. I mean, everybody knows by now,
but we'll recap it for everybody in case maybe you
were in a coma. I don't know. Buffalo defeats the
Baltimore Ravens forty one to forty on a thirty two
yard field goal as time expired, per at Mike him
on x on Twitter. It's the fourth time in franchise
history that Buffalo has scored as the clock hit triple
(02:07):
zeros to erase a deficit. On September tenth, nineteen eighty nine,
there was a Jim Kelly two yard rushing touchdown at
Miami September twenty first, two thousand and eight, there was
a Ryan Lindell thirty yard field goal versus Oakland, and
on October seven, twenty.
Speaker 1 (02:23):
Eighteen, is a name from the past.
Speaker 3 (02:25):
There Stephen Hauschka a forty six yard field goal first Tennessee.
It is the third time in Bill's history they trailed
by fifteen points in the fourth quarter and one in
nineteen sixty two October twenty at Denver they trailed thirty
eight to twenty three, one forty five to thirty eight,
and September tenth, nineteen sixty seven versus the New York Jets,
(02:47):
they trailed seventeen nothing and one twenty to seventeen. Now, John,
the other thing about this forty one to forty game,
it was the one thousand ninety second time that we've
had a score on me the snow Boy. That again,
it's the one thousand ninety second score Goami of all time,
the first of the twenty twenty five season. It's the
seventh time in ten seasons that a score of Gami
(03:08):
has occurred in the season's opening week. This is Buffalo's
fifty eighth appearance in Scoreagami. They are all time thirty
twenty seven and one when it comes to the score
of Gami's so that's pretty interesting. Josh Allen is his
fifth score of Gami and he's now a record of
three and two, matching up with Dak Prescott, Mark Brunell,
(03:29):
Matt Ryan, Steve Bartkowski, and Warren Moon. So that's interesting.
But johns now that I've now that I've verbally diarrheaed
all over the podcast, give me your thoughts in that game.
Speaker 1 (03:42):
So I'm gonna I'm gonna say that I was of
the mindset of a lot of people probably watching by
the point in time just before the comeback started happening,
I was fading, as it's been well documented Buffalo Bill's game,
under a certain influence and wait to look at the
(04:04):
trust of the text message chat until like after the
quarter or after the half or after the game. You know,
it's it's a different level of entertaining for me. But
like a lot of the people that were there at
the stadium that were leaving because they thought it was over,
I had turned the TV off in my living room
(04:25):
and excuse me, didn't mean to clear my throat your
ears there everybody. I turn off my TV and I
start getting ready to wind down for the night, you know,
doing the normal night time stuff, brush teeth whatever. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (04:36):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (04:38):
And it was a simple transition between my living room
and my bedroom where I was going to on my phone,
put the game back on to just kind of cruise
the rest of the game, and if I fall asleep,
I fall asleep. By the time I get I turned
the TV off, I go, I brush my teeth, get
my jambos on, get in bed. The phone blew up,
(05:02):
like unbelievably from you guys, you and Downey, and I'm like, okay,
you know, and it's not uncommon during Bill's games, folks.
I'm going to break down the wall here. It's not
uncommon for Ryan Wolf and Chris Downey to go on
an unbelievable roller coaster of emotions that I can only
(05:23):
describe as Homer talk, Homer hats being worn during that time.
And that's cool. So it's not uncommon to put my
phone down, go somewhere, come back, see ten to fifteen
messages and know it's you know, the plays that were
being talked or the big plays or whatever, you guys
(05:44):
kind of dissecting what happened in real time, but at
that point in time, at that point in night, when
it seemed like the chat was starting to die down
a bit, to have seventeen on unopened messages between the
time I left my living room in the time I
got to my bedroom, told me something's going down. And
(06:06):
don't you know, I bring up the YouTube TV on
my phone and it's a whole new ball game. I'm
no longer like tired. I'm tired, but I'm like no
longer like tired, Like my eyes are fighting to stay open,
but my energy is all amped up, like I'm watching,
like what the hell is going on here? And Josh
(06:27):
Allen again displays his Rookie mode Madden on Rookie Mode
type play and the play that earned him that gold
C patch on his on his jersey, the MVP patch.
It was just it was unbelievable. It was I would say,
it's unlike anything I've ever seen. But I was around
(06:49):
for the Oilers, the Bills come back, and the Oilers
that legendary game at that playoff game where the Bills
and Frank Wright came back and ended up beating the Oilers,
and people were leaving and trying to climb back and
get in the stadium. That gave me those vibes. And
it was just week one, so I was not like
(07:13):
I was ready to go to bed. So I was
a little like, I'm tired. This is cool. I'll talk
more about it tomorrow, but it was. It was wild.
It was just incredibly wild, and it's very apropos of
this Buffalo Bills team what it has been like under
McDermott and specifically Josh Allen, Like you can never ever
(07:34):
ever count this team out.
Speaker 3 (07:37):
Yeah, I mean, looking at it now, there's there's really
no situation where you can ever count them out until
the clock has hit triples years. I mean I was
nervous energy throughout, just trying to play a game on
my phone but also pay attention to the game, because
if not, I would have just scrolled through my phone.
The entire time problem I have, John is I know
that that YouTube TV, even with decreased broadcast delay, as
(07:58):
a couple seconds behind. So I can go onto Yahoo
Sports if there's like a third down, big third down,
I can go on Yahoo Sports, happen, refresh it really quick,
and see what's gonna happen before it happens, so I
have to keep that in mind and staff with my phone.
Speaker 1 (08:11):
During the game, which right, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 3 (08:14):
I was reminded that I have purchased a few things
in the past and then not too distant past. They're
like stuff to keep people because my problem, if you
can believe it, listening to one hundred and seventy five
of these trusts the podcast, I get very excited and
jump in and cut people off, and I've been working
on trying not to do that, but you getting out, yeah, right,
So looking at uh, looking at that, maybe I need
(08:36):
to utilize those during the game because I just need
to be able to focus on the football game. But still,
uh got way too amped up because I was again
watching the game, like you know, I still want to
see what's gonna happen. Who's gonna get garbage time, touchdowns, yards,
all that stuff to see like how are they, how's
the team? Because the game started and I'm gonna, actually
what I'm gonna do here, I'm gonna run, I'm gonna
say what I'm going to say. I'm gonna un through
(08:56):
all these stats and get us over to the offensive
side of things, because that's really where the is going.
To hang out. Today's on the offensive side of the ball.
Speaker 1 (09:03):
Yeah, the defense was nothing to write home about.
Speaker 3 (09:06):
One of my friends pointed out the Bills were it
felt like they were playing a preseason game. In the
first half of this game. They were calling strange plays
at strange times. They're calling the same place back to back,
both of them ineffective. Like there was one where there
was a back to back where they just did like
a wide receiver or a tight end screen and they
(09:27):
both were not very effective. But you're just like, this
team is going through the motions. But come to find out,
it seemed like they were trying just to get their
feet under them, get everybody comfortable with everybody, because once
they got going, brother, they got going, and you saw
it absolutely. Oh yeah. Kicker Matt Prater was elevated from
the practice squad on Saturday, filing Tyler Bass being placed
on the ir last Friday. Prader, at forty one years
(09:47):
and twenty eight days on Sunday, became the oldest player
in Buffalo Bill's history. That previously belonged to quarterback Bill Munson,
who wore a Bill's uniform at thirty eight years and
eighty five days old. Back in nineteen seventy nine, the huh, yeah,
you're not kidding Tyler guys rule Tyler Bass placed on
the IR with a pelvic injury, but the inkling suspicion
(10:08):
that this could potentially be something related to a sports hernia.
That's at least what I've been hearing, which for a kicker,
not good noo. It's the first ever week win match
between players that finished first and second and MVP voting
the year before, and it absolutely delivered. Buffalo became the
first team in NFL history ever to be down fifteen
plus points with under four minutes left in the game
(10:28):
and win that same game in regulation. Buffalo is the
first team in NFL history to allow forty plus points
in two hundred and thirty five plus rushing yards in
a victory. Teams who had done that previously were oh
in two hundred and seventy seven including the playoffs. So
Buffalo is the one and one in two hundred and
seventy seven, which is also pretty incredible.
Speaker 1 (10:50):
Per they seem to be the one in a lot
of things in the Josh Allen.
Speaker 3 (10:55):
Yeah, you're not kidding, that was per NFL plus teams
are three going into I believe this was going into
Sunday teams or three and twenty three hundred and twelve
by fifteen plus points in the final four minutes of
the fourth quarter, the first such win since New Orleans
cleared out a thirty one to sixteen deficit against Washington
in twenty seventeen.
Speaker 1 (11:15):
It is an overall professional wrestling record three twelve.
Speaker 3 (11:19):
It's Baltimore's first lost in franchise history when scoring forty points.
That's now twenty five to one. Over the last ten seasons,
It's been kind of tough to be a Ravens fan
in this aspect throughout the regular season in postseason. In
the last ten years, John Harbaugh has coached the Ravens
to a league leading seven double digit leads blown in
the fourth quarter. Also another thing to add here. Per
(11:41):
at Next Gen Stats, the Buffalo Bill's win probability was
as low as one point one percent with thirty eight
minutes thirty seven seconds remaining in the fourth quarter, trailing
forty to twenty five. This was the most improbable comeback
by the Bills with Josh Allen at quarterback, and the
thirteenth most improbable comeback by any team over the last
decade again per next Gen stats. I know John that
(12:05):
you lived through the you saw the comeback against the Oilers,
But for me, this is this is arguably the most
improbable comeback I've ever seen in sports.
Speaker 1 (12:16):
But I was saying as with the Bills as well,
I would say it's the most improbable comeback in regular
in the regular season again, but you know, to your
your point in mine earlier, I lived through the oiler ones.
So that to me, when I think of improbable comebacks
(12:37):
in Buffalo Bill's history, immediately my mind goes to that,
like that game is such a core memory for me
as a youth, and then just being able to see
it now and look back on it in a historical
aspect and say I was there. That's it's no matter what,
it's going to be one of one for me when
it comes to this particular subject. But this one here
(12:59):
is as the regular season is concerned right up there.
Speaker 3 (13:03):
And aside from the defensive performance, which we'll talk about,
it's clear that this team is special. There's something we've
seen the Bills get completely shlacked by this Ravens team,
even as recent as last season when Derek Henry did
the same thing and ran all over them. But this
team just did not give up. They kept fighting and
they got the stops they needed when they needed and
they got a big turnover when they needed it, which
(13:25):
again we'll all talk about.
Speaker 1 (13:26):
But yeah, like we talked about last week to a
little bit with the Hard Knocks experiment here with with Buffalo,
Like the feedback you hear you heard was it wasn't
like you know, the it wasn't entertaining so to speak,
you know what I mean, Like it didn't have the
personality because you didn't need it. I think if you
watched Hard Knocks and you took it for and you
(13:46):
watched it for what it was, you saw a Buffalo
Bills team that was close. Right.
Speaker 3 (13:54):
They're extremely focused, Yeah.
Speaker 1 (13:56):
And they are focused. So was business and that's I
think where what the world saw, uh, last Sunday night,
was the Buffalo Bills conducting their business their way and
doing it in a manner that said, hey, y'all, y'all
(14:17):
need to look out for us.
Speaker 3 (14:18):
And that's the other thing too. I Mean, they have personalities.
We've seen that they like to keep that stuff at
the house, which is fair. But as we saw on Sunday,
John and We've seen this for years now. You and
I both the Buffalo Bills do their talking between the lines, right.
They let they look at their game speak for for themselves.
Speaker 1 (14:39):
Absolutely absolutely, and that's why win or loss, they they
they put it all on the field and that's where
they that's what they need to do and that's what
they need to be. And you and I think that's
why people have have fallen in love with this team
because they are you know, I would say in the
same manner, to a lesser extent, with the New England
(15:03):
Patriots when they started kind of doing the Patriot way,
it was very similar in terms of, you know, keeping
things in house, putting on the field, put in the work,
staying focused, you know, come to work, do your job.
Buffalo is just doing in. Buffalo is doing that now.
The only difference is is that is those proverbial playoff
(15:25):
humps quote unquote, but not every story is the same
in terms of what's written. I think where Buffalo gets
the love and the respect and the adulation is because
of the fact that they had near two decades of
mediocrity and expectation and very very low expectations, and they've
done an unbelievable one ady on that and now they're
(15:48):
expected to be upper Echelin and that's where they want
to be. That's where it's not where they were during
the drought era, even though they were trying to sell that.
Now they're selling the product of success. It's showing on
the field and people are showing up for it, and
I think that's what people like the most about it.
It's a big comeback story. If the Buffalo Bills can
(16:10):
get to the super Bowl this year, I think that's
going to be an epic like that will complete the
whole The trust the process era needs to be studied
for future because that's how you successfully turn a franchise
around and consistently make it in the mix and respectable.
Speaker 3 (16:31):
Again. I think it's it continues to be a situation
where they have they have built things the right way.
They have surrounded them their talent with with good complimentary players.
I mean, you've seen.
Speaker 1 (16:46):
This year.
Speaker 3 (16:46):
I think there's going to be a lot more growing
pains on defense than maybe most would like. But if
Josh Allen has taken this step in this offense is
taken this step, or they can go off and score
that many points in a short amount of time, and
there's no adversity that they can't overcome. It's gonna be
a long season for a lot for other teams, for sure.
I mean, it's you gotta stay healthy, you gotta stay effective,
(17:07):
you gotta have a plan when another team punches you
in the mouth. But absolutely one game in looks good
so far. It's the bills twelfth straight regular season win
at home, their second longest streaking franchise history, which they
won fifteen games in a row at home between nineteen
ninety and nineteen ninety one. I was about to respond
with my Internet shit posting of why what happened? Because
(17:29):
they were really goddamn good. It's the first time the
first time the Bills have opened an NFL season on
Sunday nights since September third, two thousand versus Tennessee, when
they won sixteen thirteen Heading into Sunday night. It was
the eighteenth prime time game since twenty twenty two, tying
Dallas for the most in the NFL, and that span
Buffalo a league best thirteen and four now fourteen in
four in those games. They also entered twenty twenty five
(17:51):
with the league best eight twenty four win percentage at
home in the regular season in the playoffs. I believe
in the last five years I didn't grab that. The
rest of that one here also, there was real quick.
I'll mention these milestones and I'll talk about Josh Allenfest
milestone watch. Sean mcdermy enter the twenty twenty five season
(18:12):
with a sixty eight or an eighty six I'm sorry,
and forty five record. He's thirteen wins away now from
one hundred career victories. He's twenty six away from one
hundred and thirteen victories, which would be the most all time.
Is the head coach of the Buffalo Bills, Marvel Levy
at one hundred and twelve wins. Also, the Buffalo Bills
franchise enters twenty twenty five with an all time record
of four hundred and eighty six five hundred and five
and eight, which means they are now thirteen wins away
(18:33):
from five hundred victories as a franchise all time.
Speaker 1 (18:36):
Now, love, I love that you've been able to find
different types of milestone watches like this and have some
sort of active countdown going every week like every season.
Like the last few seasons you've done this, and it's
really cool. I like the fact that we're now thirteen
wins away from five hundred. That's pretty cool, you know,
thirteen forty, fifteen, sixty, seventeen, eighteen, eighteen wins away from
(18:58):
five hundred record. There you go, assuming assuming they win
eighteen straight, which is possible.
Speaker 3 (19:04):
Hey, hey, your lips of God's ears. Man, I'll tell
you what postgame. Postgame, Josh Allen criticized some fans. He said, quote,
I loved it, and I'll tell you a little bit.
That's okay.
Speaker 1 (19:16):
We'll be fine.
Speaker 3 (19:17):
We have some have some faith next time. I originally
was kind of like, well, that's kind of crappy, but
then I thought about it and spoke with some friends.
Raise the bar, expect unexpected with this team. It ain't
over to the clock strikes triples years. They've been saying
it for years. Now they're now they're continuing to put
their money where their mouth is. You are not going
(19:37):
to You're not going to see a Bills fan leave
that stadium. I mean, I get it. It's Sunday night.
People got to work. It's at that point, ten thirty
eleven o'clock. No, not many fans. I mean again, there's
seventy thousand people at the game. We know how many
people live in Orchard Park.
Speaker 1 (19:54):
Construction in the park.
Speaker 3 (19:56):
All those people are not All those people are not
living in Orchard Park. It's to drive to get home.
Traffic is nasty in that area. I get it. I
totally understand it. But at the same time, yeah, so.
Speaker 1 (20:07):
I I look at look, I look at I looked
at that, and I thought that you're gonna hate this comparison.
But I thought that that was this generation's Aaron Rodgers
with the Packers r E l a X. I don't
know if you remember that one, but the Packers were like, yeah,
Packers were not doing well, and everybody was like, oh,
(20:27):
just they and blah blah blah, and Rogers was like, relax,
r E l a X will be fine, and then
they went on a run. That that gave That gave
me those vibes. I love Josh Allen.
Speaker 2 (20:38):
Man.
Speaker 1 (20:39):
He can do no wrong in my eyes. Like, dude
could say our E l a X and I'll be like,
that's right, brother.
Speaker 3 (20:45):
You're not wrong. Yeah, you're not wrong. Let me get
this is one thing I know I did not do.
So let me get this really quick here. We're gonna
move over to our three big things here now, John,
which excuse me, my idiot self. I did not update
Josh Allen's stats or any I don't think I updated
(21:07):
any player stats. I did everything else though for that.
But we'll talk about Buffalogo here really quick. Here we go,
Buffalo Logo are three big things are brought to you
by Buffalogo. Buffalogo a Buffalo based marketing and merchandising company
that specializes in screen printing, embroidery, and branding services. They
also have their own clothing line that is full of
fun Buffalo themeedesigns. Follow them on Instagram, Instagram, dot com,
(21:30):
forward slash Buffalo go Co that's Buffalo Goco, Facebook dot com,
forward Slash buff Logo for their latest designs, and when
you visit their shop at buff dash a dash logo
Dash being a minus sign buff Dash a dash logo
dot com, be sure to use the code trust the
process for fifteen percent off of your next purchase. Oh boy, John,
(21:55):
you know how this is going to start. The podcast
has started this way, I think most of the time
this way for the last almost decade. At this point,
we're gonna break down the offense. We're going to talk
about the Buffalo Bills offense. I had to pop up
the stats because I'm an idiot and didn't I did
everything else but didn't update the stats. Josh Allen thirty
(22:16):
three of forty six passing three hundred and ninety four
passing yards and two passing touchdowns. He also carried the
ball fourteen times for thirty yards and two rushing touchdowns.
You may have noticed something different about Josh Allen's jersey.
This year, NFL MVP and Players of the Year will
wear gold shield patches on their jerseys. Instead of the
traditional white NFL logo, they have a gold NFL logo.
(22:38):
Josh Allen, obviously MVP, Offensive Player of the Year Saquon Barkley,
Defensive Player of the Year Patrick Surtan, the second offensive
Rookie of the Year Jayden Daniels, and Defensive Rookie of
the Year Jared Verse will have those gold gold logos.
This is a pretty cool touch looking at Josh Allen.
A great thing that was shared to me from c
(22:59):
Mike's spin move dot Besky dot social John. You'll love this.
If Josh Allen came out in the seventies, his scouting
report would just read quote, well he's a big son
of a bitch with cigarette ash caked all over the page.
Speaker 1 (23:13):
That is that is not an inaccurate statement. That is
absolutely true.
Speaker 3 (23:20):
So John, I need you now, though, to take it.
Take a pull up a chair, because you said you
love them, the Milestone watches. Pull up a chair, take
a seat. You're gonna need a minute. I may need
to get the oxygen bottle ready, so just just please
have it on standby. We got a lot here, if
you can believe it, We got a lot here about
Josh Allen. Per Yahoo Sports. Here's the stat of the year,
perhaps per ESPN research via or via Elena Getzenberg at
(23:44):
ESPN dot com, Josh Allen had two hundred and fifty
one passing yards in the fourth quarter. It's the most
of any quarter in his career. The next question here
is where does that performance rank as to any quarterback
in any quarter at any time in leak history. Get
on it, nerds. This is what Yahoo Sports said. The
number is staggering. It projects to one thousand and four
passing yards over the course of an entire game, and
(24:05):
it came out of time when the Bills desperately needed
it per Pro Football Focus. In the second half versus Baltimore,
Josh Allen was twenty one of twenty nine with three
hundred and eight totally yards and three total touchdowns with
no turnovers per at OPTA stats. Josh Allen the first
player in NFL history to have two hundred and fifty
plus passing yards and two plus rushing touchdowns in any
(24:25):
single quarter of the game, which took place in the
fourth quarter as part of Buffalo's incredibly improbable comeback. Now
to our new segment, John that will be highlighting every week.
It's called rewriting the record books. Rewriting the record books
with Josh Allen entering twenty twenty five, follow me on
this one. Entering the season before he played it all,
Josh Allen already has the most wins seventy six, total touchdowns,
(24:47):
two hundred and sixty two and totally yards thirty five
hundred and ninety five by any player all time in
their first seven seasons without taking a snap in twenty
twenty five. Allen has also recorded the most total touchdowns
in NFL history prior to turning thirty at two hundred
and sixty two. Wild Patrick Mahomes is second with two
hundred and fifty nine, but he turns thirty on September seventeenth.
Josh Allen does not turn thirty until May twenty one
(25:09):
of twenty six, So again, Josh Allen's gonna run with
that one. No pun intended or pun intended. His seventy
seventh victory on Sunday Night, tying Joe Ferguson for second
most all time in franchise history. Josh Allen is three
touchdown passes away from two hundred for his career, forty
one away from two hundred and thirty eight, which would
(25:30):
make him the all time franchise leader in passing touchdowns
for passing Jim Kelly at to thirty seven. He recorded
his sixty sixth career rushing touchdown on Sunday Night, breaking
a tie with Thurman Thomas for the most rushing touchdowns
all time in franchise history, joining Cam Newton with sixty
three in the Carolina Panthers as the only other quarterback
to lead a franchise in rushing touchdowns all time. Okay,
(25:54):
Josh Allen seven three passing yards away from twenty seven thousand,
five hundred ninety one that would put him second most
all time in franchise history, which is currently owned by
Joe Ferguson at twenty seven, five hundred and ninety. Josh
Allen is two hundred and seventy four rushing yards away
from four thousand, four hundred and forty six career rushing yards,
which is would be fourth all time, currently held by
(26:14):
Joe Cribs at four thousand, four and forty five. Josh
Allen recorded his sixty ninth touchdown from scrimmage on Sunday.
Speaker 1 (26:22):
Nice nice waiting for you. Sorry delayed reaction, but nice,
very nice touchdown. I was following along, right, I was
following along at your pace, and then you just stopped
what I kept reading. I kept going with.
Speaker 3 (26:33):
Got you got too lost in assaults. I appreciate it.
Speaker 1 (26:35):
I did sixty nine so much.
Speaker 3 (26:37):
There is a lot. This was again, This was me
going through it, going like did I get everything? But
also how is there so much? It was a sixty
ninth touchdown from scrimmage. That's rushing and receiving time O J.
Simpson for third all time in franchise history. Thurman Thomas
and Andre Reid hold the franchise record with eighty seven
touchdowns from scrimmage. That's sixty five rushing for Thurman, twenty
two receiving for him, one rushing touchdown for Andre Reid
(27:00):
in eighty six receiving touchdowns for Andre Reid.
Speaker 1 (27:02):
But wait, there's more.
Speaker 3 (27:04):
But wait, there's more. My email just signed me out.
Thirty one thousand. I can still go. I just can't edit,
which I'm not going to have to edit. Thirty one
nineteen total yards in this first eight season is traling
Patrick Mahomes for most total yards and the player's first
eight seasons at four thousand, six hundred and three. Also,
I met up there when I said that entering first
(27:26):
time in all seven seasons. It's the first eight seasons.
So Josh Allen has already set the record. John, let
me just fix that for most wins, total touchdowns, and
total yards by a player all time in their first
eight seasons without taking a snap this season. So that
record's just going to be extended out. That's why that
one didn't make sense to me. Also, for all of
his troubles, Sean, for all of his troubles, not only
(27:48):
did he get a paycheck, which that rules AFC Offensive
Player of the Week for the sixteenth time in his career,
extending his own franchise record, and his sixteen AFC Offensive
Player of the Week awards honors are the most of
any player since Josh Allen entered the NFL in two
thousand and eighteen. Wow good lord, wow wow.
Speaker 1 (28:08):
Well, I mean, I honestly, I don't even know what
else to say about Josh Allen at this point. You know,
two hundred and fifty one passing yards in the fourth
quarter alone, again mad non rookie mode with that, Like,
I've done that in rookie mode playing on Madden. I've
thrown I've had my created quarterback thrown for one thousand
and four yards in a game because I played he
(28:30):
and he did that in real life. It's wild. Yeah,
But then you throw in the two rushing touchdowns in
the same quarter, and you know, as you appropriately mentioned,
their opt the stats confirmed it.
Speaker 4 (28:40):
Literally nobody has ever done that in the history of
this league. Like we're watching it get We're watching the
record books be rewritten in real time. Like I I
don't know if I could appropriately articulate.
Speaker 1 (28:58):
The level of in a newness that this all is, Like,
this is this is new. This things that have never
been done before you are witnessing this, so you know.
And then as you had mentioned, before he even took
a snap, he already had the record for most wins, touchdowns,
and yards and the players first seven seasons and now
creeping up on Jim Kelly's record, this record, don't know
(29:20):
record not being first first eight seasons because I eight seasons,
eight seasons. I'm sorry, yes, first eight seasons. But he's
creeping up on Kelly's record and this and that not
even being thirty. Like I really really hope our listeners, truly,
and Bill's not just Bill's fans in general, but fans
of the game of professional football appreciate this because this
(29:45):
is this is something you're not going to see every
you know, Josh Allen every year.
Speaker 3 (29:53):
That's the same reason. And I'm sorry to jump in,
but that's the same reason. Like Patrick Mahomes, excuse me,
drives me absolutely insane. Watching Lamar Jackson play football drives
me absolutely insane because it's usually happening against the Bills
and it's not a good thing. But it's the same
(30:15):
thing that's happened to me with baseball, with natscar with
with any sort of motor sport, with golf, with hockey,
every sport out there, you have to take a step back.
I mean, because I feel like we're When I was
a kid, it was a day and age. If you can't,
you have to like who you like, and that's it.
(30:36):
But right now, it's about stepping back and understanding what
it is you're seeing and appreciating that.
Speaker 1 (30:43):
Like I think, I don't know anyone could hate Josh Allen.
Speaker 3 (30:47):
Patrick Mahomes could go look the bottom side of a
of a shoe. I was gonna say something a little
bit more offensive, look at the bottom side of a
shoe after someone stepped in dog crap, and I would
that's fine. But watching them play football, You're like, we
are witnessing something that we probably will never see again,
exactly Christ Taken for that instance. I hope we never
(31:08):
see them be that good again.
Speaker 1 (31:10):
It's I'll tell you, it's like, you know, you saw
Brady versus Manning, right, and it was kind of like wow,
you know, this is like wild, like you know Brady
versus Manning. But now you and now this generation, now
this this era. You have Alan, you have Jackson, you
have Mahomes, and it's and you're seeing you know how
those guys all play, and it's just it's unbelievable and
(31:34):
it gives you, it makes you wonder, like ten years
from now, what will be next? You know, these guys
have evolved this game. They've evolved the quarterback position in
ways that you know, the Warren Moons and the Michael
Vicks and in the Cam Newton's even like like that
style of play has now become the norm. But they've
(31:56):
all Aaron Rodgers, you know what I mean. And and
like that's style is what the Lamar Jackson's and the
Patrick Mahomes and the Josh Allens grew up watching and emulating,
Like they've played this style their whole life, and now
we're beginning to see that in real time here. And
that's why some of these things are fun. It's kind
of like in basketball in the NBA, Steph Curry with
(32:18):
with you know, drilling the threes and being able to
do what he has done for so long. Lebron James,
same thing. It's it's it's just it's an era, man,
and it's.
Speaker 3 (32:29):
Really something we've talked about. But I just I just
literally thought of this. How the Chiefs had their too
high safety look which was really messing up the league.
So then teams last year really went back to running
the ball, and we had a lot of very successful
running backs in the league. So now it's going to
transition back at some point. But I think the different
here is that Josh Allen can run successfully and throw successfully. Yeah.
(32:53):
One thing that I saw, which I believe it was
dan or Lobski on Get Up the Monday morning after
the Bills, he said something along the lines of like,
Josh Allen could beat you with his arm, and then
he could beat you with his legs, and now he
can beat you with his brain. And that's that's that's
the evolution of Josh Allen as a player. Like you
(33:15):
saw in Hard Knocks, how he used to throw the ball,
how he would throw with his with his shoulder. Now
he's throwing in with his arm. Now he's throwing with
his body. He's making that evolution to make him a
better player. He's seeing things differently. He's he's he's using
his wisdom to make the team better and more efficient
and more effective. Where excuse me, you see a guy
(33:37):
like Kean Coleman, who looked like a number one wide
receiver on Sunday night. I mean he had the first
half one catch on three targets for seventeen yards, the
second half seven catches, eight targets ninety five yards in
a touchdown. He ends the game with eight receptions on
eleven targets for one hundred and twelve yards and a touchdown.
That's what the Bills need. They're not going to get
(33:57):
that every game, but that's Coleman and.
Speaker 1 (34:00):
He but I love I love it because when I
saw when I saw all of those and I saw
that quite frankly, I would I would deem this a
breakout game for him absolutely to to to uh to
an extent. You know, seven catches nearly one hundred yards
and a touchdown. That's that's wide receiver one type numbers.
And the way that Josh leaned on him down the
stretch tells you everything that their chemistry is starting to click.
(34:22):
And it's funny because as I'm seeing this and I'm
saying this, I go back to training camp. I don't
know if you remember this, Ryan and that trust the
text message chat you and Chris were a little, uh,
a little unsure and Kean Coleman because he dropped the pass.
Speaker 3 (34:38):
Well, they were were you remember that they were going
they were getting hot about and I was I was
very anti like, hey, media, it's July.
Speaker 1 (34:46):
Lets be real curious. It's bust your chops.
Speaker 3 (34:49):
Josh Allen sneezed? Is he injured? It's like, bro, it's July.
Speaker 1 (34:54):
You know, I'm busting your chops there. But seriously, it's
good to see that that's happening. And you know he's
he's young. He's there last year, so he's got time
and he's and he's going to start. You know, the
more reps he gets, it is what we talked about
last week. We can get the.
Speaker 3 (35:09):
Red boss Man. Let's put our boss man hats on
for a second. Let's let's go to corporate America real quick.
It's like anything. It's like anything in life. You don't
know you can do it until you do it and
you're successful. Exactly Now that Keon Coleman has put this
game on film, I'm not expecting Keon Coleman to go
for ten one hundred to touch every game. Right, that's nuts,
that's nuts. That's not going to happen. But these are
(35:33):
the types of games that boost your confidence tenfold. It's
not a small victory. This is a very hey look
at you did this, you can do this, and it's
not look at it's not. It is that that that
secondary no slouch. They have no of the They have
some of the most talented players on their back half
(35:54):
of their defense. And that's what you did to them.
So take that and remember that and build off of that.
Speaker 1 (36:01):
That's what's going to earn him those reps, that's what's
going to earn him more looks from josh down the
stretch and I'm telling you, if he can show he
doesn't have to do seven touches one hundred yards every
single time, but if he could, and they know he could,
that's a different type of game plan that these defenses
are now having to plan around each week coming in so.
Speaker 3 (36:22):
Open up which, as we know, will open up more opportunities,
which brings me John to my next point here. He
may not have to be the guy of a game
because you've got don't forget Khalil Shakir, returning from the
hin ankle sprain suffered in the preseason, did not look
like he missed a step at all. Six receptions on
nine targets for sixty four yards. Joshua Palmer making his
(36:42):
Buffalo Bill's debut, five receptions on nine targets for sixty
one yards. I was gonna mention James Cook, I'll mention
him here quick. Five receptions and five targets for fifty
eight yards. Dalton kin Kaid was four for forty eight
with a touchdown. Dawson Knox had a quiet game, but
again you've got I mean, Jackson Hawes in his first
NFL game, had an incredible catch that continued the comeback.
(37:05):
There are, let's see on this list here one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine,
ten different players who had at least one target on Sunday.
You know what that sounds to me? Like?
Speaker 1 (37:15):
John? What does it sound like?
Speaker 3 (37:17):
Everybody eats?
Speaker 1 (37:19):
Everybody eats and he look, you know what he Cook's
not flashy, but he's steady, you know what I mean?
Speaker 3 (37:25):
And again thirteen rushes for forty four yards and a touchdown.
He does He will have those breakout games. He adds
another dimension to this offense that the Buffalo Bills desperately
need to have. Without him, there are certainly a different offense,
maybe not a huge drop off like it would have been,
but they still need him.
Speaker 1 (37:44):
They he fills a void. He is insurance. He's the
insurance policy to Josh Allen's legs in my opinion.
Speaker 3 (37:52):
Well, here's the other thing too. Fiftieth career game, maybe
four rushing yards away from twenty seven hundred and sixty six,
which would put him fifteen in Bill's history for rushing
yards all time, surpassing Marshaun Lynch at twenty seven to
sixty five. So again, next game or two, he should
be fifteenth all time. We'll keep an eye on that
as well, John m hm. For the sake of time,
(38:13):
because we could talk about I could talk about that
offense until the next game, no joke.
Speaker 1 (38:16):
And they and they would have they would have earned it.
Unlike the defense.
Speaker 3 (38:19):
Yeah, the defense man Jesus Christ. Yeah, shifting to the defense,
it's probably the best way to say, just wow, holy hell.
Uh my question. Has the defense ever played against Derrick
Henry before? Have they ever seen it? Have they ever schemed?
Speaker 5 (38:34):
Now?
Speaker 1 (38:34):
Now, I feel like every time Derrick Henry plays against
the Bill's defense, it's a mismatch.
Speaker 3 (38:40):
So Derrick Henry in his own right is a future
Hall of Famer. He is a monster. Yeah, but scary dude,
it is you are picking your poison knowing that all
of the poisons are going to kill you.
Speaker 5 (38:52):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (38:52):
Right.
Speaker 3 (38:53):
If you say, well, we're gonna sell out on Derreck Henry, Okay, well,
then Lamar Jackson is gonna pick yell apart. Okay, We're
gonna sell out for Lamar Jackson. Okay, then Derrick Henry
is gonna rag doal Cole Bishop and make him look
like a twelve year old.
Speaker 5 (39:04):
Like.
Speaker 3 (39:04):
That's just the way that the Bill's defense handles Derrick
Henry obviously not efficient, but excuse me, it may be
a scenario in the future where yes, you can win
the game forty one to forty, but you may also
just have to keep the ball away from them because
Dereck Henry will eat your team alive.
Speaker 1 (39:23):
Hey.
Speaker 3 (39:24):
Joebascalia of The Athletic pointed something out very well in
an article that like, the Bills defensive line had to
do this, which then caused the linebackers to be in
this position, which caused the cornerbacks to be in this position,
safety be to be in that position. It's all able
to be broken down and understand that, like it was
a painful mismatch, this defense should be able.
Speaker 1 (39:44):
To figure it out.
Speaker 3 (39:45):
They've got a lot of talent, they've got very smart coaches.
They're gonna have to figure it out. I mean that anybody,
because they're probably gonna have to play the Ravens again.
Speaker 1 (39:54):
Yeah, I mean they have to figure it out. They
have to solve for this Derek Henry problem. Every single
time that Derek Henry plays the Buffalo Bill's defense, there's
some sort of highlight involving him and them, and it's
I mean, John out there.
Speaker 3 (40:10):
Real quick because I didn't mention this. I'm sorry. The
Bill's defense allowed eight point two yards per carry.
Speaker 1 (40:17):
That's not just that's historic domination. That's an historic domination
of one one person mind you defense. That's wild.
Speaker 3 (40:26):
Most of it was. I mean, Justice Hill had two
rushes for negative fourteen yards. Rashin Ali had one for five.
Za Flowers had two for eight, Lamar Jackson six for
seventy in a touch that's eleven point seven yards per carry.
Derrick Henry eighteen carries for one hundred and sixty nine
yards and two touchdowns. That's nine point four yards per carry.
John every time he touched the ball he almost averaged
(40:48):
a first down.
Speaker 1 (40:49):
It's wild, Like if the Bills didn't win, we would
be talking more about this. But oh, of course this
would that would the meat of the sandwich to this
podcast that we gave to the offense. We would be
talking about defensively if the Bills lost this game.
Speaker 3 (41:03):
So the safe position way has already become a problem.
The Bill's angles to tackling on in the secondary got awful.
Now hopefully the return of a healthy Tradavious White will
will we'll bring some stability to that and they can
maybe take a little pressure off. My first thought on
Sunday though, and again I don't know what the deal
is with with Mike with I always said Micah Hyde,
(41:24):
with Jordan Poyer, if they're gonna make a hide it,
we're like, we're gonna keep you round in case we
need you, but if we don't, you're just gonna be.
Speaker 1 (41:29):
On the practice squad.
Speaker 3 (41:32):
I don't know, but I'm my first thought was like, okay,
Jordan Poyer's got to be like, okay, when when am
I getting the call? Because this looks this looks awful.
There's gonna be a lot a lot of adjustments that
have to be made, but credit whords due in the department,
Uh Warren Sharp at sharp Football on Twitter, points out
after scoring forty points on eight drives and getting four
hundred and ten yards on those said drives. The Ravens'
(41:53):
final three drives, they had a three and out punt
gain six yards yards, two plays fumbled it four yards.
That's when Buffalo got the ball back, and then they
had a three and out punt gained only seven yards.
The Bills defense, though, did give up per Howard Simon
on Twitter, eight runs of ten plus yards five passes
of twenty plus yards. Forty points is the most given
(42:14):
up at home since twenty twenty one, when the Indianapolis
Colts scored forty one points. All the bad stuff, I'm
flushing the toilet because the one thing I do want
to talk about the difference maker on this Buffalo Bills
offense always has been and will continue to be at
Oliver if he stays healthy. Healthy, God blessed the opposing
(42:34):
offensive lines of Bills face for the rest of the year.
John he had six total tackles, also lo a sack,
a quarterback, hit three tackles for loss. He was a monster.
Speaker 1 (42:46):
Absolutely If this version of him sticks around all season,
opposing offensive lines are in trouble you, that's just insane.
Speaker 3 (42:57):
In looking at the stats here, because I know I
had Chris Downey share something in our chat group, I've
got to scroll back up through it. The game from
at Oliver on Sunday also was statistically fancy stats wise,
one of the one of the best games. I believe
it was the best game in the league by a
(43:18):
player on Sunday.
Speaker 1 (43:20):
There we go.
Speaker 3 (43:21):
Top ten defensive EPA contributors Week one, at Oliver had
a negative eleven point two four total EPA, So that
means he was really goddamn good on Sunday.
Speaker 1 (43:36):
Okay, I was about to say, explain that, Explain that
to somebody that maybe in kindergarten he was good. That
was great for all of you. At Oliver was the man.
Speaker 3 (43:49):
Yes, I'm just I'm trying to find an example so
I can explain to you, John.
Speaker 1 (43:53):
Don't worry about it. We got time constraints, brother, keep
it rolling.
Speaker 3 (43:59):
Why you gotta do me like that because now I'm
stuck here. So essentially, if it's if it's defensively, I gather,
then it's negative, it's good. If it's offensively and positive,
it's good. If it's negative offensively, you're bad. If it's
positive defensively, that means you cost your team yards. I
suppose I don't know. Someone will explain it to me,
(44:19):
but yes, kicker Tyler bass I put this on the
sheet before he hit the ir But we'll talk about it.
Entering twenty five, fourteen points away from six hundred and
seventy one career points scored, that would be third most
all time in franchise history, currently Scott Norwood at six
hundred and seventy points. But some special teams news and
some other housekeeping. Buffalo Bills punter Brad Robbins was waived
(44:40):
on Tuesday afternoon, Week one. Per at the punt runs
on Twitter, which is a great handle, Brad Robbins was
dead last in punt above expected per EPA or expected
punt average. I don't I whatever he was. He's been
the worst punter in the NFL in twenty three and
did not punt last year. On the flip side, Buffalo
(45:02):
signs punter Cameron Johnston, who looks a lot like comedian
Bill Burr, who has also commented on the look. Johnston
has played in ninety six games over seven seasons. He
appeared in one game for Pittsburgh in twenty twenty four,
Johnston's career average of forty seven point three yards per
punt ranks him tied for eighth all time for most
(45:23):
average yards per punt in NFL history all time. Also,
the Buffalo Bills not shockingly signed Matt Prater to the
fifty three man roster, and on Wednesday morning, the Bill
signed defensive tackle Fidarian Mathis or apparently he just goes
by Phil to the practice squad. Six four, three hundred
and twelve pounds, big boy, big boy alert. On that one.
(45:45):
Twenty three career games over three seasons with Washington, He's
head in his career twenty five combined tackles, two tackles
for loss, one pass defended, one fumble recovery, and one
quarterback hit and John Before we hit the commercial break here,
I do want to make sure that we mentioned this
very quickly because this is filed under don't be a
(46:08):
moron and the Bill's fan has been banned indefinitely from
the Bills stadium in NFL stadiums per a team official
was he shoved DeAndre Hopkins and then was promptly planted
into his seat by Lamar Jackson. You love you love
to see that stuff like a I don't care who
you are. Yeah, if you watch a fan get too
(46:28):
involved in the players, like nah, nah, we're gonna find
out real quick. But I don't report that fan has
been injected. That's all the time I'm given on the podcast.
Dot you, sir, are an idiot.
Speaker 1 (46:39):
You're an idiot, Bills. Those fans are much better than
are much better than that. Anyways. You know, there's always
going to be out leaders in every fan base. That
guy was one, and hopefully uh he learned a lesson there.
Lamar Jackson has a hell of a shove.
Speaker 3 (46:56):
Goh, you're not kidding John, what that said. We're gonna
take a quick commercial break. We will be back right
after this with more Trust the Podcast here on the
Gear Radio Network. And we are back here on Trust
the Podcast Around the NFL, John take it away.

(48:24):
want to say about Chris Downey? Or hooray for Downey?
For the Round the NFL?
Speaker 6 (48:29):
Take it away, Chris, Ryan John, thank you as always,
and thank you for having me here for another season
of Trust the Podcast. This is Around the NFL, and
welcome to week one of this segment. We're gonna do
it a little differently this season, outside of your traditional
news We're gonna make this a best and worst of
the week, highlighting the best games and performances and well
(48:51):
you know they're not so good games and performances as
well of the week. Now with that, let's get into
it Week one around the NFL. First, we'll look at
the good, the top games and performances of the week.
As Ryan and John have discussed already, the Bills and
Ravens Sunday Night game already a Game of the year contender,
possibly the game of the year, but so sixteen weeks
(49:12):
left to go, plenty of games left, but easily a
top game of the year.
Speaker 5 (49:16):
Hell of aid. To start the last season in.
Speaker 6 (49:19):
The Ralph Thursday Night Football, the defending champion Philadelphia Eagles
edged out Division arrival the Dallas Cowboys twenty four to
twenty to kick off the season. Billy scored the lone
points of the second half, though just a third quarterfield
goal from Jake Elliott to take the win. The Chargers
knocked off the AFC champs from last season, the Chiefs.
(49:40):
They jumped out to a ten zero lead early in
the first half, and they held on for a twenty
seven to twenty one win over the Chiefs last week
in Brazil. Now, even though it is week one, we
do like to put a bill spin on things here
around the NFL. It gives me a little bit of
a chance to do that. That early loss by the
Chiefs does create at least a game separation between Kansas
(50:01):
City and Buffalo, which between the Bills, the Chiefs and.
Speaker 5 (50:04):
The Ravens vying for that top spot.
Speaker 6 (50:06):
Bills already have a game up on both of them,
and they still get the Chiefs later in the year. Cincinnati,
they narrowly got by the Joe Flacco led Cleveland Browns
on Sunday seventeen sixteen. Barn Burner and the AFC, but
Joe Flacco great performance. He threw for forty five times.
Forty year old Joe Flacco threw forty five times with
(50:27):
one score and two hundred nine yards, but came in
the loss. Speaking of veteran quarterbacks, Aaron Rodgers made a
Steelers debut in style. He threw for two hundred and
forty four yards and four scores as the Steelers were
thirty four to thirty two winners over the New York Jets.
Justin Fields got to start for the Jets, throwing for
two hundred and eighteen yards and rushing for forty eight.
(50:48):
And the battle of quarterbacks who last played for the
other team. Justin Fields played in Pittsburgh last season. Rodgers
last played for the New York Jets. Monday Night, JJ
McCarthy had a fourth quarter comeback of his own, leading
the Vikings to a twenty seven to twenty four win
over divisional foe Chicago Bears. The Vikings, they tried seventeen
(51:09):
to six going into the final quarter, scored twenty one
unanswered to take the win. Now that's good performance is good.
Speaker 5 (51:17):
Of the week?
Speaker 6 (51:17):
You gotta look on the flip side the not so
good of the first week in the NFL. Starting right
off before we even get a snap of regular season football,
Jalen Carter warmed up, but he didn't even play a
snap for the Eagles. Defensive tackle was involved and engaged
in a spitting incident with Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott where
looked like Dak spit at least in his direction, but
Carlers did spit on him, was flagged and immediately ejected
(51:41):
before a snap was even taken between the Eagles and Cowboys.
He won't miss any time, as his pregame injection served
as his game suspensioned.
Speaker 5 (51:49):
He was also fine for the incident.
Speaker 6 (51:52):
Now Miami, they traveled Indianapolis to take on the Colts
open the season, but I guess they forgot they actually
had to play the game. Yampolis scored thirty straight points
before Miami added eight in the fourth quarter, falling to
the Daniel Jones led Colts thirty three to eight. Yes,
the Daniel Jones from the New York Giants. Jones he
shined in the opener, will two just fourteen to twenty three,
(52:14):
only one hundred and fourteen yards in a score, but
he also added two picks. Zach Wilson also saw time
for the Dolphins under center, going five of eight for
just thirty two yards. Russell Wilson speaking of the Giants,
Russell Wilson led the Giants under center on Sunday, and
he led them in passing and rushing yards. I had
a recipe that was not successful for the New York
(52:36):
Football Giants, falling into the Commanders twenty one to six.
Russell Wilson threw thirty seven times or one hundred and
sixty eight yards. But no scores, and he also rushed
for forty four yards in the game. Team high tyrone
Tracy only rushed for twenty four yards and that was
second best on the box score. Now, lastly, in the
NFC North, the Packers. They shined in their season over
against the Lions, but Detroit, coming off a great season
(52:58):
last year, lost both of its coordinators. That seemed to
be the big question mark. After Week one, the defending
NFC North champs struggled to get the ball moving on
the ground as both Montgomery and Gibbs, they're two headed
monster in the backfield, only combined for forty four yards
on twenty touches and they failed to reach the end zone. Now,
not so good of the week. Let's look ahead to
(53:19):
week two. Yes, it's already Week two of the NFL.
We have a potential NFC Championship preview this Thursday night.
Commanders travel up to lambeau Field to take on the
Packers and an early NFC contest that could have again
early standing implications, could be a potential NFC Championship preview
come January. We also have a Super Bowl rematch at
(53:43):
Arrowhead this weekend the Chiefs. They host the Philadelphia Eagles.
The Chiefs coming off their loss the Eagles with their
narrow win. Eagles who decimated the Chiefs in the Super Bowl.
See can they do it again in Kansas City or
just Kansas City? Use a home field advantage home opener?
Do they take advantage and get their from the Super Bowl?
Now a reminder, we also have two Monday night games
(54:04):
this week. First one is seven pm kick in Houston,
Texans so Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and at ten pm Eastern
the Chargers make the trip for Vegas to take on
the Raiders. This has been your Week one recap from
around the NFL. Ryan and John as always.
Speaker 5 (54:20):
Back to you.
Speaker 3 (54:20):
Thanks Chris, as always, we do appreciate you. Bud our
look ahead John, Week two. Train doesn't stop. We're moving on, man.
Speaker 1 (54:29):
Moving on too, up too. Oh, I'm sorry, You're all good.
Speaker 3 (54:33):
The Buffalo Bills at the New York Jets Sunday, September fourteenth.
They one pm kickoff on CBS after last Sunday's game. Man,
thank the good lord, we got a one pm game.
Is like a palate cleanser here the New York Jets.
Speaker 1 (54:45):
I kind of, I kind of, I'm kind of mother
hucking it because I'm working. I'm working the second job.
It is the season of the home finale for the
Rochester Red Wings, sadly competing against Buffalo. Probably not going
to be very highly attended there, but uh.
Speaker 3 (55:03):
Stinks and hey, sometimes nature calls brother. Indeed, the New
York Jets o won one tie for second in the
AFC East last week, thirty four to thirty two loss
to Aaron Rodgers and the Pittsburgh Steelers. The storylines here
the rushing attack will definitely give Buffalo fits if they
don't make adjustments. Thirty nine total carries for one hundred
and eighty two yards four point seven yards per carrying
(55:25):
three touchdowns bresee Hall Justin Fields had a field day,
no pun intended with the Steelers very talented defense. One
thing here to point out with new head coach Aaron
Glenn cornerback Sauce Gardener per ESPN and the Jets thirty
four to thirty two loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday,
Gardner followed wide receiver DK Metcalf just about everywhere. In fact,
he lined up across from him on thirty of thirty
(55:46):
four pass plays. According to the Next Gen stats. My
guess would be that Sauce Gardner will probably play opposite
of Kean Coleman on Sunday, so that could also have
an effect as well. But the Buffalo Bills, as we
have talked about, do have a bevy of options on
the offensive side of the ball. So John, Prediction.
Speaker 1 (56:05):
Time, Prediction time, I'm I'm gonna go. It's see, it's tough.
I'm trying to determine if the Jets are you know,
if the Steelers are not you know who they say
they are, or the Jets improved enough to to you know,
(56:26):
kind of compete with them the way that they did.
The Jets ultimately went Jets, and Xavier Gibson, as you
can see, has been released from the New York Jets,
which I will say that is a bit of a
different vibe from the New York Jets. Gibson of course,
caused the turnover that allowed Aaron Rodgers to score again
and get give Pittsburgh League instead of keep the Jets
(56:47):
ahead in that game, which may have cost them the game.
Speaker 3 (56:52):
And normally, if you're going to preach accountability, you've got
to put your money where your mouth is. It's a
tough it's a tough, cold business out there, but the
end of the day, it is a business.
Speaker 1 (57:01):
But but historically, or at least recent history, the New
York Jets wouldn't have done what Aaron Glenn did and
actually outright cut the dude. They would have benched him
or some crap like that, because they just never did that.
Speaker 3 (57:14):
So this they would just let him keep playing.
Speaker 1 (57:16):
Right and and so this was new. So that's that's
a tone setter for Aaron Glenn, which I like and
I respect. Do I think that the Jets, that the
Jets will compete with Buffalo in the same manner that
they competed with Pittsburgh. I don't know that it'll be
as close, but if the but if the Buffalo Bills
(57:37):
defense does not show up that rushing attack, and then
of course factoring in Justin Fields, whom, to his credit,
played better than I've ever seen him play like in
his entire career, Like that was one of his If
he had three good games, that was one of them
in his career. So I got to give him. I
gotta give him that. And he's got the type of
(57:59):
running ability similar to Josh Allen, where you have to
plan for it and if the Bills don't plan for it,
he's going to make them look silly. Now that said,
the Buffalo Bill's offense, on the other hand, I don't
think is like the Pittsburgh Steelers offense in terms of
level where they are now. I think the Steelers offense
(58:21):
is good, but I think the Bills offense is ten
times better. And because of that, and because of Josh
Allen and the fact that this is that proverbial rebuild
year again for the New York Jets, I'm taking Buffalo
winning this one. Don't think it's going to be a
close one, but I don't think it's going to be
far either. I think it'll be respectable. But I'm going
(58:42):
to go ahead and say thirty one twenty four Buffalo.
Speaker 3 (58:49):
I've got the Bills twenty seven to seventeen. I mean,
I know that it makes no sense and it's kind
of pointless for us to just sit here and throw
random numbers out and discuss it, but like it's fun
because then we get to go, what the hell were
you thinking?
Speaker 1 (59:00):
How close were we? You know exactly exactly?
Speaker 3 (59:02):
Are we worth our weight? And Salter? Are we just
two stupid podcasters sitting in our offices talking to each
other about the Buffalo Bills on a Thursday night. It's
a very good question. It's a very good question. We
can talk about that at some point in time. But yeah,
I think if the Buffalo Bills can't adjust to the
rushing attack, I certainly think that it will be a
(59:23):
bit of a longer afternoon for the Buffalo Bills, at
least defensively, but offensively the well, defensively for the Jets.
Offensively for the Bills. Both have shown the ability to
put up numbers, and for the Jets defense that's a
negative thing. For the Bills offense, that's a good thing.
So again, I don't think they will have too much
trouble scoring points if they need to score a ton
of points. But again, I think this will be a
(59:45):
twenty seven to seventeen probably garbage time touchdown situation for
the Jets, where they.
Speaker 1 (59:49):
Yeah, yeah, that's where the twenty four for me came from.
Was like the majority of it would probably be not
the majority of it, like the last of it would
probably be garbage time.
Speaker 3 (01:00:00):
I would like to see, not a huge uptick, but
at least a marked difference in this Bill's defense. Whether
it's of its intensity, or it's tackling angles or something like.
Just just don't look as inept as you did on
Sunday Night Football. It was week one. It is a
long season. A lot of guys didn't play in the preseason.
(01:00:20):
I understand that, but right can't You can't ask Josh
Allen to go out and score forty one points every
single No.
Speaker 1 (01:00:29):
And that's the thing too, is I want to see
that way all season.
Speaker 3 (01:00:35):
Even if he does. Even if Josh Allen and the
Bills go out and average forty points a game all
season long, which would be unbelievably crazy. You cannot go
into a game expecting that to happen. Because things, something
will happen. Defenses will figure you out, You'll you'll have
some fumbles, you'll throw some picks, whatever the situation may be.
And then what are you going to do just say, well,
(01:00:56):
we're just gonna lose. No, you got to be able
to have a full sixty minute game plan and be
effective on both sides of the ball and with special teams.
I just totally want coach speak there for a second.
I'm sorry, but like that's the truth. You cannot expect
Josh Allen to he's an MVP, proven, got the got
the trophy to prove it. But you can't expect him
(01:01:19):
to do that every single week. You got to give
him a little help and then maybe it'll be forty
to ten instead of forty to forty one to forty.
Speaker 1 (01:01:27):
It'll be right exactly exactly, or realistically it could be
like twenty eight to ten and he doesn't have to
put in that effort to get them to forty in
order to win the game. So defense is gonna be
The defense is gonna be again the I think the
key story for the Buffalo Bills this season. I think
(01:01:48):
their wins and losses not necessarily are going to rest
on the laurels of Josh Allen. But that defense, how
you say, the defense setting the tone for how hard Josh.
Speaker 3 (01:01:58):
Really needs to play? Get Can they get the ball
back when they need to like they did on Sunday?
Can they get to stop when they need to like
they did on Sunday? That defense bent bent bent bent,
cracked in a few spots for sure, but they did
enough to help Buffalo get the ball back to win
the game offensively. And you think about playing the Chiefs
(01:02:19):
in the playoffs. You just need to stop. You just
need to stop. You don't want to get to that
point where you need to have just to stop, but
if you do, you have to be able to make
that stop. That's what's held Buffalo up the past few years.
And again it's the it's funny for us, John, We've
talked about it before, We'll talk about it again, I'm sure.
But the preseason is much more of the preseason. The
(01:02:40):
regular seasons are much more of a preseason warm up
for us. Like, we know the Bills are going to
be good. We know the Bills are most likely going
to make the playoffs. Even with seven teams per conference
in the playoffs, it's very for a team this talented.
It would take it would take a lot. It would
take a lot for this thing to go south, right,
I would think, yes, So I we're just trying to
(01:03:04):
follow the storylines, see which direction this team is going,
and pay attention to what matters the most. But I did, John,
I did just get your text. I was I was
in the process here, I was about to say, I
was about to say, are you ready?
Speaker 1 (01:03:20):
Are you ready?
Speaker 3 (01:03:21):
I'm asking you if you're ready, I'm ready. I was
born okay, Boomer, Boomer, take it away, my man.
Speaker 5 (01:03:27):
No one circles the wagons like the Buffalo Bills.
Speaker 3 (01:03:32):
Just wanted to make sure you didn't miss the cue
on that one.
Speaker 1 (01:03:34):
Nope, nope, I had it ready.
Speaker 3 (01:03:37):
With that being said, for John Smino, I am Ryan Wolf.
We are trust the podcast.
Speaker 1 (01:03:43):
You're not.
Speaker 3 (01:03:44):
We will catch you same time, same place next week,
probably a little sooner because quick turnaround. Next week the
Buffalo Bills, after playing Sunday afternoon do play Thursday night,
so we will catch you a little sooner than this week,
but still same time, same place. Thanks again for always
tuning in. As always, go Bills.
Speaker 1 (01:04:02):
Chow chow, everybody.
Speaker 3 (01:04:05):
