Trust The Podcast returns with a special Thursday Night Football edition of the podcast!

Ryan Wolfe and John Cimino kick off the podcast but are quickly joined by a special guest, Adam Roberts, who breaks down his trip to Buffalo - food, tailgating and more.

Ryan and John go on to break down the Bills' victory over the Miami Dolphins, looking into why people are upset about Josh Allen not displaying his raw arm talent, as well as Buffalo's defensive issues with third down.

The guys are then joined by the Unholy One himself, Chris Downey, who takes us Around The NFL.

team all time to do so in two straight seasons.
The only other team to do this John was the

the bat. Our first of the three big things, John,
Trust the podcast at Thursday Night Football.

Speaker 1 (04:30):
All right, Trust the Podcast. Thursday Night Football. Phone call
to the Trust the Podcast voice. Now, this is Adam Roberts. Adam,
take it away.

Speaker 5 (04:41):
Hey, this is Adam Roberts calling in and just to
tell you my experience about going to the Buffalo Bills
versus the Miami Dolphins at Thursday night football. I you know,
being from Indianapolis, of course huge Colts fan, but I'm

(05:01):
a Josh Allen fan.

Speaker 4 (05:02):
You know, he's awesome.

Speaker 1 (05:05):
For the record, isn't he a dream about Ryan? Isn't
he dreamy? Is he dreamy in real life like when
you saw him?

Speaker 2 (05:12):
Yeah, he's a great.

Speaker 1 (05:12):
He's a great guy.

Speaker 2 (05:13):
He's he's it's it's I'll preface this too as well,
that he's he's very soft spoken in terms of it's
hard to get reactions out of him. It's like the
exact opposite of what I am, which makes us our
our friendship so interesting.

Speaker 1 (05:30):
Okay, but continue please, all right, that's that's.

Speaker 4 (05:33):
Fair, big dude, big meaty quarterback. You know.

Speaker 5 (05:38):
Uh so.

Speaker 4 (05:39):
But I've you know, I've known Ryan for you know,
uh five years, work with him.

Speaker 1 (05:46):
Uh.

Speaker 5 (05:47):
And I get a text Sunday from my brother in
law who's a big Bills fan here in Indy and says, hey,
I've got uh, I've got Thursday and Friday off. Oh,
they're going to go into the game. We're thinking to
go into the game. My two brothers in laws and

(06:07):
then my wife was like, you should go, and you
should text Ryan if he wants to go. So immediately
I text Ryan Sunday morning saying, hey, I might go
to the game. Details coming, I'll let you know. Do
you want to go? And of course yes, So about
four o'clock we finally get the details worked out, went

(06:30):
got some tickets, some seat geek. We got ninth row
on the end zone. I don't know really what end
zone it is, north or south, east or west. I
don't know how the stadium is, but you know, Originally
about five tickets.

Speaker 4 (06:46):
I only needed four, but that was okay.

Speaker 5 (06:50):
I was able to sell one of them, got some
of my money back. So yeah, so I put in
the PTL request and Thursday morning, seven am we left
for Buffalo, New York, and we got there about three pm.
You know, Ryan was like, yeah, you got to go

(07:10):
here here, so he we met him at bar Bill
Barbill North, and he was there.

Speaker 4 (07:19):
We we met we Now.

Speaker 1 (07:22):
Let me ask, has this guy ever been to Buffalo before?
Did you? Did you cover that already?

Speaker 2 (07:27):
I don't believe he's ever been to Buffalo before.

Speaker 1 (07:28):
Okay, so he so this would be his first experience
experience in the seven one six correct, okay, continuing, we.

Speaker 5 (07:38):
Had some really good wings. I got just you know,
like medium, and then I also got the Sicilian, which
I've heard about so so I really wanted to try those.

Speaker 4 (07:50):
They were really good.

Speaker 5 (07:51):
And then you know, we got we had to get
the beef on weck, which was really good.

Speaker 4 (07:57):
You know.

Speaker 5 (07:57):
I put a lot of horse radish on it, dipped
it in and adrew and that bun was amazing. Kind
of reminded me of like a pretzel.

Speaker 4 (08:07):
Bun, but not really. And I love that.

Speaker 5 (08:09):
Kind of salt on it so that you know, the
beefy salty. I mean, I love it all, you know.
And it was a really cool place. You know, we
have pizza logs and all that stuff.

Speaker 4 (08:25):
Uh yeah, and then we then we made our way
to the game.

Speaker 5 (08:28):
Uh and I was just like really excited because you know,
I've been the Colts games.

Speaker 4 (08:34):
I've been to other.

Speaker 5 (08:35):
Stadiums, Saint Louis, you know, we've I've been to Saint
Louis game and whenever the Rams, I saw the Colts
destroy him, you know, taligated at other places. So I
was really excited to see this Bill's tailgate. And let
me just tell you, the Bills tailigating.

Speaker 4 (08:59):
Did not disappoint. It was hands down.

Speaker 5 (09:03):
Some of it was the craziest, the best, the the
most insane scenes I've ever seen at a tailgating. They
have everything there. It was huge. You know, it took
us an hour to get in. But it's kind of
reminds me of being here in Indianapolis. You know, the

(09:25):
stadium is just in the middle of a town and
you drive into Orchard Park and you just park in
people's yards. They're just hey, park here, you know, pay
the sixty bucks, pay the forty bucks, pay the seventy bucks.
That's what we did. We pulled in the some poor SAPs,
you know, right off the road. I don't know what

(09:48):
road that is, but we pulled right in there, parked,
parked right in his grass, didn't care.

Speaker 4 (09:53):
You know, where we parked. Were able to just.

Speaker 5 (09:55):
Pull right out onto the road. Reminded me being here
in any Annapolis.

Speaker 4 (10:02):
You know, when at the speedway. So yeah, so we
pull in.

Speaker 5 (10:08):
You know, I could see the new stadium as Ryan
called it, the Death Star, and it does. I mean,
it's gonna be really cool. But I guess that's where
they used to tailgate and stuff, so yeah.

Speaker 4 (10:19):
That'll be cool. And so then we just started walking
around and.

Speaker 5 (10:22):
My goal was I wanted to either see a tape,
see somebody go through a table or go through a
table at the bills. I wanted to find a bootleg shirt,
I mean just the bootleg of bootleg shirts, and you know,
maybe see the famous ketchup mustard guy, you know, and

(10:44):
just experience the tailgating as I did. And let me
tell you, we experienced it all and more. I mean
we were just walking and you know, within the first
ten feet we saw people just selling stuff. You know,
like a flea market. Some guy had some hats. He
was like ten dollars. Ten dollars, you know, my my

(11:06):
brother in law's what he went with.

Speaker 4 (11:08):
He left his hat in a car.

Speaker 5 (11:10):
The guy was was literally ten feet from the car
and he said, here's a hat. And he was like, oh,
you know, I just left binding the car and he
was like, well, for ten dollars, you can have this one.
And he was like, well, for I could just go
back and grab mine, you know, crazy stuff like that.
And you're just walking down and just to see a

(11:31):
people just people just eating, celebrating, drinking loud music. You
know at Colts games you'll see like the little you know,
one Colt's bus. There's like this one blue bus that's
real famous. There's probably fifty bills buses. I probably saw.

(11:51):
I saw two or three big bills RVs. Like it's
insane the amount of people and how much tailgating. So
we were like walking around looking at shirts. I mean
I finally bought. I saw the chicken wing necklace that
Ryan had he was wearing. I bought that instantly. That

(12:13):
was an instant by I almost bought one of the
Big Bill's hats.

Speaker 1 (12:17):
With the you rock the chicken wing necklace. Well, hell yeah,
proud of you.

Speaker 4 (12:23):
You know, the buffalo head.

Speaker 5 (12:26):
But so we were still looking around, going around, and
finally we go to a place where it was my
kind of T shirt. It was a fuck to a
T shirt, go spit on that dolphin, you know, And
I was like, this is the T shirt I need,

(12:48):
this is the T shirt I want. So I paid
my twenty five bucks with my ten dollars chicken wing necklace,
my twenty five dollars shirt, and we just walked around
to see it.

Speaker 4 (13:00):
Of madness of tailgating.

Speaker 5 (13:02):
Just just walking around, and then finally we found the
hammer Lot, which is where the craziness happens. So yes,
we go in and we're walking around and we just
stop in this one place and we just sit there

(13:25):
and then my brother in law notices behind us. He's like, hey,
that's that's the guy. We turn around and it's the
famous Pento ron looking normal, and when we look around,
we notice we're right by a van that's decked out

(13:47):
and you could just see like the ketchup and mustard
stains on it, and also like on top of it
is some kind of contraption they've built to I guess
for people to walk on, and and then we noticed like, oh,
we found it. We found pent Oroon. This is where
it's gonna happen. So we're like, well, we're gonna stay

(14:07):
right here because we had a front row seat. And
as we're sitting there, Channel Channel seven News came up
and and they were going to have like a live,
a live show, and I guess they and they streamed
it live and did like a live you know, ceremony
for pent Oroon during their live broadcast. I did that,

(14:31):
And so we're sitting there waiting and I saw people.
I saw the pizza, the the uh the pizza oven
where they do the you know, serving pizza out of
the file cabinets, and just the amount of people, you know,
it was crazy that was in there. And it was
you known Bills fans. There was a couple of Dolphins

(14:53):
fans and they were They're very gracious, and all they
kept saying was, well, this is crazy.

Speaker 4 (14:58):
You guys do it right.

Speaker 5 (14:59):
I could you know they'd never do anything like this
on Miami, Like I got no shit, man, like.

Speaker 4 (15:04):
Like come on. Uh.

Speaker 5 (15:06):
So yeah, So we're sitting there and I'm watching these
guys do you know, shouts out of the bowling balls,
you know, everything that you want to see.

Speaker 4 (15:14):
And then I.

Speaker 5 (15:14):
Noticed, you know, they're uh, they start putting ladders on
these vans and and you know, they did very good
with the safety.

Speaker 4 (15:23):
They they had these nice bungee corps.

Speaker 5 (15:25):
They were really bunging up the ladder so they would
not fall off this van. Uh, you know, really good
safety there. And I noticed some guy with a watermelon,
and like, man, he looks really familiar. And I was like,
he kind of looks like Ross Chastain, a NASCAR driver.
I'm like, ah no, that can't be. And he kind
of goes up there and I'm like that, seriously, is

(15:48):
Ross Chastain and the NASCAR driver with the watermelon? I mean,
who else would have a watermelon? Uh with them? Then
you know Ross Chastain, and that's a celebration. So fir enough,
it was. He was there, you know, before Pentoran came out.
He went and you know, broke a watermelon from there.

(16:10):
So yeah, so they they did the whole ceremony. It
was glorious. It was the as my wife said, top
ten stupidest things a human being can do. You know,
the news guy was up there. They announced him. They
play the song Pento Iran comes out with his cheeseburger

(16:32):
or whatever. He has his hot dog. It just walks slowly,
you know, it's almost like a religious experience. As he
comes out, wants his ketchup and mustard, and then they
just pour it on him and squirt it on him.
And this man gets covered in ketchup and mustard and

(16:53):
there's a ketchup and mustard people and they run around
him and I guess he's done it like five hundred
times or something crazy like that. You know, we had
to look it all up, and it's just it's one
of the most glorious things. One of the dumbest things,

(17:14):
but one of the I can't like explain the joy
I got, but also like just the like.

Speaker 4 (17:26):
Dumb fountains I got. It was just amazing.

Speaker 5 (17:29):
So so yeah, we get that, and it's still it's
like seven fifteen.

Speaker 4 (17:34):
You know, we still got to go to the game,
so that happens.

Speaker 5 (17:38):
You know, we go through the SEAA people, we go
to the stadium. You know, it's for being from the seventies,
you know, it's still a pretty cool stadium. You know,
our tickets are right there we go to the game,
Bill's fans are nuts. The place is loud the whole time.

(18:01):
You gotta do the the you know, the Bills Bills
make me want to shout. You know that's like anytime
you hear that constantly anytime they score. But you know,
as you're tailgating the whole time, and it's just nuts.
The atmosphere there is electric, like I can see why. Uh,

(18:23):
you know that place is such like uh like you know,
it's probably one of the top five most electric like
stadiums to play like.

Speaker 4 (18:33):
It was so loud you can barely hear the PA.

Speaker 5 (18:38):
And what I liked was like just like you know,
going to a Colts game, Like, yeah, it gets loud,
but it is loud.

Speaker 4 (18:46):
There the whole time, right, It's NonStop. It is loud. Uh.

Speaker 5 (18:53):
And then the like the music they play is like
it's music to get you pumped up. You know, in
the Colts game, you know they'll play a mixture, but
in there it's just like pan tearra metallic hard rock,
like crazy stuff to get you like pumped up.

Speaker 4 (19:11):
The game was awesome. You know, it came down to who.

Speaker 5 (19:14):
Could make the the first mistake and of course, you know,
to through that interception, that.

Speaker 4 (19:23):
Other thing. My gosh, this is already fourteen minutes.

Speaker 1 (19:28):
Yeah, yeah, so.

Speaker 4 (19:29):
Yeah, Bill's won. You know, it was great. I thought
we were gonna see a fight.

Speaker 5 (19:36):
There was a Dolphins fan in front of us and
another Bill's fan who just kept saying fuck you, fuck you,
fucked you to him the whole time. I thought they
were gonna fight, but they didn't. We almost caught a
T shirt but slipped through our hands. You know, I
got a popcorn bowl.

Speaker 4 (19:59):
There's and then we left.

Speaker 5 (20:02):
We're coming home and as we're coming home, or as
we're going back to the to the to our car,
we hear somebody just screaming and yelling I fucking hate you,
I fucking hate you from one of the parking lots.
I'm gonna fucking kill myself and just and just runs

(20:24):
past us full speed, runs into the traffic, but luckily trips,
falls flat on her face and just lays there, and
and her father or whoever comes up and like, stop,
why are you doing this? And and me and Ryer

(20:47):
just kind of looking at each other like you know,
that's that's what happens, That's what happens here. You know
that's the Bill's that's what happens, and and people are
just like, yep, that's Bill's football, Bills, and uh yeah,
if he just.

Speaker 4 (21:04):
Kept screaming, if I can hit that family.

Speaker 5 (21:08):
So I don't know what if he was on some
drugs or too much to drink.

Speaker 4 (21:14):
I mean I know that.

Speaker 1 (21:15):
So this guy clearly had himself a good time.

Speaker 2 (21:18):
Oh yeah, he has to make sure he got the
full story out there and and and yeah, so what
had happened there was that that whole like what is
going on? And then I looked at him, and then
two guys next with one guy goes, well, that's not good,
and then the guy literally next to him just goes,
that's Bill's football, and then like that's another game day
in Buffalo. And I looked at him and I'm.

Speaker 6 (21:38):
Like, I literally have no words right now, Like that's
that's I been to Bill's games before, but the level
of inebriation at halftime was oh.

Speaker 1 (21:51):
On yeah, And that's and that's any game, Like I
can imagine the last game at at at the Ralph
is gonna be freaking nuts with that.

Speaker 2 (22:00):
But I got to one for you.

Speaker 1 (22:03):
What's that I'm on be there what ya wo be there.

Speaker 2 (22:08):
You know that sounds because uh, unpaid intern Chris Downty,
We're gonna be there.

Speaker 1 (22:12):
Yes, oh, yes, that's right.

Speaker 2 (22:15):
You did.

Speaker 1 (22:15):
Uh you did let me Uh you did let me
know about that. I don't know if I was, but we.

Speaker 2 (22:20):
Had we had it. We had all of the time,
got to see the sites, got to enjoy it, as
you could tell. H It's funny because I felt so
much better about the experience after I heard Adam talk
about it, because again he's not not not boisterous now, like,
oh my god, that was crazy, this amazing MAMAS was
a great time, very calm, cool, collected, as you could tell.

(22:41):
But to hear him be like, no, I had an
incredible time. It was so much fun. It was amazing.
I'm like, damn, I feel like so much better about it.
I'm so glad that we ended up doing that because
it was really it was a long, long ass day,
but it was so worth it, and we got to
see a Bill's victory.

Speaker 1 (22:57):
It's very good.

Speaker 4 (22:58):
You know.

Speaker 1 (22:58):
It was a great game to go to. Obviously, as
it sounds, I wasn't there, but I was nearby home
and I was watching on the Amazon Prime. I didn't
see you on the on the TV, Ryan, but I did.
You can definitely tell it did radiate through the screen
that it was just a fun time there, as I

(23:20):
imagine all Bills games are like just the happenings, they're like,
I mean, I I vividly remember when, you know, going
to my first game there, and mind you Jet, you know,
Jets grew up, the Jets were my favorite team as kid,
you know. And so I'm coming into Bill's Country never

(23:41):
having gone to a Bills game before, and it was, dude,
it was fun. Like I've always said, I loved a
party with the Bills mafia, Like these guys have a
great time. It's a it's a it's a it's a
great community. It's an interesting community out there.

Speaker 2 (23:59):
Oh yeah, but.

Speaker 1 (24:00):
It's a great community. And nonetheless it's very welcoming.

Speaker 2 (24:04):
I would agree with that one. I mean, it's it's
but it's very interesting. Yes, And I'm hoping that when
when Chris comes into town, we can get in a
little earlier, depending on I'm really hoping that everything's wrapped
up by that. And the Bills don't play on Saturday night,
and it's a it's a Sunday one o'clock game, because
that would obviously be selfishly way cooler.

Speaker 1 (24:22):
Yeah yeah for.

Speaker 2 (24:23):
Me because I'm old, uh and I want to go
to bed. And I was tired for three days after
the Bills game because I just could not get caught
up on sleep. It was a lot of fun.

Speaker 1 (24:32):
Oh yeah, but out what times jen them get home?

Speaker 2 (24:35):
That one? One one? And I went to bed and
at about two thirty and woke up at six?

Speaker 1 (24:41):
Hey, is is like leaving the stadium as bad as
it's been advertised? With the new stadium in the parking lot?

Speaker 2 (24:50):
Uh, I mean, there's there's a lot less room to
park now. But they have made their way, they have
they have figured it out, and we're around it for sure.
The problem was is we waited. We sat through the
whole game. We didn't leave until security started to kind
of usher people out so lively. It's Southwest Boulevard, Southwestern Bulevard,

(25:13):
whatever the road is. It was backed up for quite
a while. But you know, again, worth it the whole day,
the whole afternoon evening, absolutely worth it. Running down the
offense real quick. Josh Allen twenty two of twenty eight,
two hundred and thirteen passing yards, three passing touchdowns, four

(25:34):
cares for twenty five yards. He wore a shield for
the first time in the regular season. People were worried
that maybe that was the reason why his numbers were
a little less, I guess, but there's we'll talk about
that a little bit here. He's got forty five total
touchdowns at Josh Allen does in fifteen regular season games
versus miamister, passing Dan Marino, who at forty two versus
the Jets in his career. For most total touchdowns by

(25:56):
a quarterback in their first fifteen games against an opponent,
Josh Allen moves to twenty one to seven in prime
time games and our weekly segment John rewriting the record books.
With Josh Allen, he became the fastest player to record
three hundred career offensive touchdowns regular season and postseason combined
in NFL history, surpassing Patrick Mahomes. Per at uber Hanson

(26:18):
on Twitter, Alan averaging Allen is averaging two point three
six touchdowns per game. Quote. If that number seems low
to you, just remember that no qualifying quarterback in NFL
history has averaged more touchdowns per game than that. If
you remove every one yard rushing touchdown. Of Josh Allen's career,
he averages two point one six touchdowns per game. Of note,
that remains top five all time. Also, Josh Allen recorded

(26:40):
his two hundredth career passing touchdown, hying Russell Wilson, Dak Prescott,
and Kirk Cousins for sixth fastest in NFL history to
reach two hundred career passing touchdowns. Josh Allen up to
two hundred and sixty nine career regular season touchdown. That's
two hundred past sixty seven rush and two receiving, which
is ten more than any player in NFL history through
their first eight seasons. Of note, Josh Allen has fourteen

(27:01):
games reigning in his eighth NFL season. And here's a
fun one for you. Since being drafted in twenty eighteen,
Josh Allen has more offensive regular season touchdowns at two
hundred and sixty nine than twelve NFL teams. The Falcons,
the Patriots, the Texans, the Commanders, the Steelers, the Bears,
the Raiders, the Broncos, the Panthers, the Jaguars, the Giants,
and the Jets.

Speaker 1 (27:21):
None of those teams surprise.

Speaker 2 (27:22):
Me, no, but that's that's fun. And then to wrap
this up here, forty one touchdown passes away from two
hundred and thirty in his career, which we bought the
most all time in franchise history, four hundred and two
passing yards away from twenty seven five hundred and ninety one,
which would be second most all time in franchise history.
He's one hundred and ninety rushing yards away from four
thousy four hundred and forty sixth career rushing yards, which

(27:43):
would be fourth most all time in franchise history. Josh
Allen trails only Patrick Mahomes by three thy one hundred
and thirty nine total yards for the most total yards
in a player's first eight seasons. Allen is currently seventh
most all time, trailing Derek Carr by nine hundred and
seventy total yards for sixth most of the time or
six most all the time. I'm sorry. Also, Allen's two

(28:05):
hundred and sixty nine regular season touchdowns our fourth most
by an NFL player in their first nine seasons, trailing
Dan Marino at two seventy two, Peyton Manning at two
eighty eight, and Russell Wilson at two eighty nine. John,
I will remind you right now though, that Josh Allen
is currently playing in his eighth NFL season.

Speaker 1 (28:22):
So let me ask this because because we're in season eight, which,
depending on position in football, may be considered the halfway
mark of a career. And I don't think Josh and
I'm not suggesting that Josh Allen is at the halfway
point of his career at all. He's probably gonna play
twenty plus years. But we're at a point now where

(28:43):
we start to think of, you know, historical and now
that we have this you know this, this history you know,
chasing history thing going every week, it begs the question,
hypothetically speaking, if Josh were to retire now right for
some reason, you know, would he be Hall of Fame

(29:06):
considering the pace at how he's playing in the numbers,
like almost like a sterling shark type deal, or would
he be Hall of very good? Right now?

Speaker 2 (29:16):
I think it's you've not seen someone like him before,
so it would be Hall of Fame.

Speaker 1 (29:19):
Outside looking, I would agree, I would agree. I think
the MVP gets him there the super Bowl. If a
Super Bowl win or even an appearance, would I think
solidify it for him. Well, that's just the one because
of the market.

Speaker 2 (29:32):
A guy like Matt Ryan. This is more than BLT conversation.
But a guy like Matt Ryan, I I struggle to
think that he's a Hall of Famer because yeah, he
put up stats, but he never, at a point in
time was he the best quarterback of his of a
season in the area he played. And it makes it
kind of difficult.

Speaker 1 (29:47):
I mean he did, he did win one MVP and
he led the Falcons to a Super Bowl.

Speaker 2 (29:51):
Sorry, who was I thinking about? Not not Matt Ryan.
Then it's it's there's someone else. There's someone else. I'm
I'm I don't know. I'm it's it's late. I'm I'm
trying to drink this coakes here to keep me awake
over here.

Speaker 1 (30:02):
It's okay.

Speaker 2 (30:04):
Pro Football References Hall of Fame monitor has an average
NFL quarterback at a one oh three five eight. Josh
Allen is forty second right now all time at sixty
point one to three. So you can go spend your time.
You can look into that and see. Obviously, not every
quarterback is a one hundred and three point five, sure,
but the average. Uh so, there are players around him,
I'm sure or getting up on two players that are

(30:25):
getting catching up to players who are lower.

Speaker 4 (30:28):
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (30:28):
We'll talk about that later.

Speaker 1 (30:29):
Yeah, no, no, no, no, And I don't mean to, you know,
I don't mean to you know, pre say, Josh Allen
retiring and he's halfway through his career. Anything, it's just
hypothetical BS talk. They were talking. That's a good being
a Hall of Famer after year three, you know, that's
a good.

Speaker 2 (30:46):
Yeah, that's a good bye week conversation. If you remember that,
remind me and we'll talk about that.

Speaker 1 (30:50):
I We'll try my best.

Speaker 2 (30:51):
I want to run through the rest of the offense quickly.
I want to ask you about the the upset people
from the game. James Cook running back nineteen cares for
hundred eight yards and one touchdown, with three receptions on
three targets for ten yards. He rushed for a touchdown
in the seventh consecutive regular season game. Time the franchise record,
I didn't update this stat so I'm just gonna surpass that.
About where he is all time in franchise records. I

(31:12):
will let you know. Oh, he surpassed Marshall Lynch for
fifteenth most all time in franchise History's now twenty nine
yards away from surpassing Jim Braxton. I'll verify that that's correct.
If not, I will look it up next week and verify.
Dalton king Kaid has recorded four plus catches in all
three of Buffalo's games, becoming the first tight end and
team history to do so to open a season. He
had five catches on six targets for sixty six yards

(31:34):
and a touchdown. Khalil Shaker looks like he's getting back
to business four receptions on four targets for forty five
yards and a touchdown. And Jackson Hawes, the man who
blocks his ass off, caught his first NFL touchdown a
one reception on one target for five yards and a touchdown.
Now John the question here upset about lack of downfield passing.
Per Syracuse dot COM's Matt Parino quote, Bill's quarterback Josh

(31:57):
Allen attempted to just one pass that traveled more than
ten yards down few. Allen's three point seven intended air
yards per past attempt is second the second lowest totally's
posted in a game since the start of the twenty
twenty one season. The only other instance where his iay
dash PA or intended air yards per attempt dip below
four yards per attempt was twenty twenty four against the
same Dolphins team. Essentially, what's being said right now is

(32:20):
that people are like, why is he not chucking the
ball down the field? They've got the offense to do it.
Josh Allen is taking what the defense gives him. It's
another piece of that development of that smart of being
able to beat you with your mind is that he'll go,
all right, if you're gonna let me fill the ball
five yards and they can go run it for ten,
I'm gonna do that. There's no need to push downfield
and do more than you need to do, which is

(32:41):
why he is performing so well, which is why the
Bills are performing so well. So, yeah, is it fun
sometimes to watch a dink and dunk offense for sixty minutes? No,
but guess what, you know what's more fun than that?
What's that getting a dub?

Speaker 1 (32:54):
Indeed, indeed, you know, I will say, and the lack
of downfield passing, you know, so what he attempted, only
attempted one pass beyond ten yards? Who cares you know?
Because this is where you know you can determine the
checkers players from the chess players and This is where
you see the chess game of football. You know, teams

(33:14):
are forcing Buffalo into underneath throws and instead of getting greedy,
you know, Josh is showing patients and letting the guys
rack up the yard after the catch. He doesn't need He.

Speaker 2 (33:24):
Tells you he can read those defenses.

Speaker 1 (33:26):
And under can read the defenses. That's maturity in his
game there, and Joe Brady nailed it. You know, if
Allen keeps proving he can carve defenses underneath, at some
point teams are just gonna have to adjust and and
that's when the deep ball would be back on them
and you that's that's chess football. We've seen that happen
era after era after era. You know, with big arm

(33:47):
quarterbacks that Roethlisberger and Pittsburgh. He was known for the
deep ball and his wheels in the beginning, and then
he was known for kind of something else after that.
But then his as his game changed and he matured
with his football playing game, he would go dank and
dunk if he needed to as well. Brady had a
big arm. He didn't need to display it, but he

(34:07):
had a big arm. He could throw the ball. He
didn't need to and then when everyone.

Speaker 2 (34:12):
Is going to be a member of the Russell or
the Russell the Rex Grossman fan club, which Russels and
I've been doing recently of the someone's got to be
down there. I'm going deep.

Speaker 1 (34:20):
Yes, yes, indeed, take.

Speaker 2 (34:23):
The shots when they're given to you, not when you
think that you've earned it, essentially.

Speaker 1 (34:26):
Indeed, indeed, but I mean realistically, you know, like I said,
it's it's checkers versus chess, and the Bills are matching
everybody very very well right now. And I don't want
to hear excuses about how easy this schedule is on paper,
because even some members of the Bills mafia that I
know are like, oh, well, the schedule's easy, you know.

(34:48):
I mean, they're not playing blah blah blah, like even
if they were playing you know, the Eagles every week,
and these guys or whatever, like, this team has shown
that they adapt very well, that they play with very
well under pressure. And you have Josh mother mother Allen. Yep, absolutely,
that's that's the captain of the ship there. And he

(35:10):
he's not Josh Allen year one. He's not Josh Allen
year two, and he's not Josh Allen. Half of year three,
he's Josh Mother Mother Allen, MVP. Give that man his respect.
He's the new bad man of the NFL. And if
these defenses don't give him that respect and they think that,
you know, they are you know, just when they think

(35:31):
they got the answers, he manages to change the questions.
Do you know what I mean?

Speaker 2 (35:36):
That's why guys like James Cook are so important in
this offense. Last James Cook has eaten because hey, yeah,
Josh will throw for two hundred and twenty yards. Wow,
that's a that's a real like there was the fan.
The one thing Adam didn't mention is how everyone was
chatting MVP for Josh Allen and the Dolphins fan and
mentioned like, oh wow, two hundred and thirteen yards. Wow,
that's a whole lot for an NBA.

Speaker 1 (35:55):
Yeah, Okay, it.

Speaker 2 (35:56):
Doesn't matter because guess what. Guess what Buffalo's walking away
with win. Guess what Buffalo's three and No, Like, doesn't
matter how you do it, just do.

Speaker 1 (36:04):
It right exactly. I think what did they say he
was headed into the game the Buffalo that Buffalo and
Josh Allen was was it was he seven and one
heading into that last game against the Dolphins, something.

Speaker 2 (36:16):
Like that everybody has owned. He has owned the Dolphins.

Speaker 1 (36:18):
He's owned that team, like in the same manner that
Brady owned everybody else. Josh owns Miami.

Speaker 2 (36:27):
Brady like the Bills. I remember those days where the
Bills have like one victory in ten years, and I
was like, I hung my.

Speaker 1 (36:32):
Right on that broad and that's where the Dolphins are now.
So Dolphins fans really, you know, shouldn't be talking like
part of me hopes that this on schedule, this easy
on schedule, like this easy schedule that they have on paper.
I hope they run the table. I hope Buffalo runs
the table. It would give me, it would give me
great joy, great joy in the best two years and

(36:54):
not have the Miami Dolphins claim and on a perfect season. Again,
I'm not going to get ahead of myself yet, no
I know, but it's looking it's lining up at least
to the bye week right now to be.

Speaker 2 (37:08):
Pretty good. And we'll talk about that coming up, because
again we got to talk about the game here in
a few minutes coming up on Sunday. But I'll run
through the defense really quick and something I'll point out
something because I know we're running a little tight on
time for forst segment here. First off, shifting to the
defense injury updates, players are improving. At Oliver miss Thursday's
game with an ankle injury, but videos have shown he

(37:28):
shed the walking boot even this week. No more boot,
but he's a little stiff in his gait, which I
thought that was a nice ten dollars word to throw
in here. Matt milanom miss Thursday's game with a pectoral injury.
Sean McDermott quote, feels like the pectoral injuries not long term.
We did get the update on Thursday that Spencer Brown
calf injury. He's DNP both Thursday, Wednesday and Thursday, but

(37:51):
he did mention on the radio that just been acting
up and he's just resting, and he sounds like he's
going to play. Ajpanessa limited both days so far. But
Joe Bascalia of The Athletic pointed out that Epenesa seemed
to be moving around well during the media portion of practice.
But Matt Malano and at Oliver both the NP Wednesday
and Thursday. My guests would be they're not going to
play this weekend and nothing against the Saints, but there's

(38:14):
really no reason to rush them back. We'll talk about
that in just a minute, though. Okay, Buffalo was forced
to turn over in fourteen straight home games, the longest
since a thirty one game streak in nineteen eighty eight
through ninety two. What else happened?

Speaker 1 (38:24):
Then?

Speaker 2 (38:25):
Linebacker Trail Bernard seven tackles, five solo, one tackle for loss,
a pass deflection, and a very impressive interception. Since twenty
twenty three, Bernard is tally to eleven takeaways, tied for fourth
most to the National Football League and John, before we
take it.

Speaker 1 (38:37):
Back to that's that's huge right there.

Speaker 2 (38:39):
Oh yeah, before we take a commercial break, I want
to mention the Buffalo Bills were piss poor on third
down On Thursday, Buffalo's opponents and twenty twenty four were
successful on forty four point five four percent of third
down conversion, third worst in the league at the time
of recording. Buffalo's opponents are successful on forty three point
two four percent of their third down conversions, twenty third
in the NFL. As Buffalo solve this problem, Terrell Bernard

(39:01):
post game for Sports Illustrated, it said, quote, just our fundamentals,
there's a couple times where we have we have him,
we missed the tackle here, he gets out of the pocket,
creates to play. That's what comes back what it comes
back down to. That was really the emphasis at halftime.
We felt that we were finishing first and second down
and getting him to the third and long, but we
just weren't detailed in finishing those drives. Something has to
give against Miami. It won't hurt in the playoffs, it

(39:24):
will hurt. You've got to figure this out. This has
been an ongoing achilles heel for this Buffalo Bills defense
as a whole. The players aren't the same, the coaching
is the same. You gotta figure it out. Yeah, I mean,
he put it perfectly. It comes down to fundamentals.

Speaker 1 (39:39):
You know, they're in position, but miss tackles and breakdowns
are extending those drives and that's going to be a
killer ultimately at some point, you know what I mean.
That's what they need to tighten up on if they
want to, you know, remain serious contenders, because throughout the
course of the season, as as wear and tear builds,
it could it could potentially it worse for them. Third

(40:01):
could get better, but it could also get worse.

Speaker 2 (40:03):
Third down stops may not be the the worst problem
against the Miami Dolphins on Thursday Night football, but when
you're playing the Chiefs at Arrowhead in January, right right,
that's that's that's the difference between going home and going
to the super Bowl.

Speaker 1 (40:17):
That's absolutely.

Speaker 2 (40:21):
With that said, we'll take a quick commercial break. We'll
be back right after this with more Trust the Podcast
here on the Gear Radio Network. And we're back here
on Trust the Podcast, our fourth of the Three Big Things.
For the first time ever, we're supersizing the three Big Supersize.

Speaker 1 (40:40):
Hooray for supersize.

Speaker 2 (40:42):
All right, thank you, John. It's kind of like the
recession indicator at McDonald's where they brought back the extra
value menu. We are supersizing a recession indicator. We are
supersizing the three Big Things this week. John, Here we
go take it away around the NFL. Brought to you

Speaker 1 (41:47):
And now on to the moment you've all been waiting for,
especially you, mister and missus Downey.

Speaker 7 (41:55):
I'd like to say the unholy Jackwagon Chris Downey is
going to give you his Around the NFL wisdom rights.

Speaker 8 (42:06):
Now, Ryan and John as always, thank you, and welcome
to Week three of Around the NFL. A week of
late game field goals both made and blocked on Sunday
set the tone for the weekend, and our Lake Erie
neighbors in Detroit gave us Bills fans a helping hand
on Monday night. Let's get right into it. Starting off

(42:29):
Detroit thirty eight thirty winners in Baltimore on Monday Night football,
two headed monster of David Montgomery and Jamier Gibbs combined
for two hundred and eighteen yards on the ground and
four scores, Montgomery one hundred and fifty one on just
twelve touches in the win. Meanwhile, Ravens running back Derek
Henry rushed for just fifty yards in the loss, scoring once,

(42:52):
but also fumbling late in the game once again. The
loss helps Buffalo mentally in the AFC standings, holding a
two game lead along with the tiebreaker over Baltimore, essentially
a three game lead over the Ravens and it's only
three games into the season. Now, let's look, I know
I mentioned some field goals a moment ago. We're going

(43:13):
to do a blended best and not so great performances
this week surrounding these late game field goals. Cleveland got
its first win of the season with a time expiring
fifty five yard field goal at home over Green Bay.
Was an early scenes an upset of sorts for the Packers,
who they had a field goal of their own blocked
with twenty seven seconds left in the game.

Speaker 1 (43:33):
Dick er.

Speaker 8 (43:33):
The kicker won the game for the Chargers with a
forty three yard field goals time expired to knock off
division vote Denver at home. The Chargers moved to three
and zero, and with the tiebreakers currently in place, they
sit at top of the AFC standings. Philadelphia, they trailed
by nineteen early in the third quarters, scored twenty six
straight over the Rams to take the seven point win.

(43:55):
The last touchdown, a block game winning field goal attend
by the Rams, was returned sixty one yards for the
scoop and score to pad the Eagles lead. The defending
champs moved to three to zero. We'll stay with that
game though, and earlier in the contest, the Rams were
victims to another blockfield goal. Yes, the game winning attempt
as time expired was not their first blocked field goal

(44:17):
of the game. Their first one happened a few minutes prior,
late in the fourth and would have put them up eight.
And it looks like the Rams this week will be
focusing on protecting the kicker. The Jets, they look the
stun Tampa Bay on the road, as they also blocked
the late fourth quarterfield goal. The block kick was returned
for a touchdown to give the Jets the lead. But

(44:38):
unlike the Rams, the Bucks were able to protect their
kicker for their game winning field goal on their next
drive as time expired. Other notable games from the league
forty nine Ers game winning field goal of their own
sixteen to fifteen win over the Cardinals. In Mac Jones's
start for the San Francisco forty nine Ers, the Vikings,

(44:58):
they didn't need a game winning field weal, they rash
that Joe Burrows Bengals forty eight to ten. And the Panthers.
They shut out the Falcons in their home opener thirty
to nothing, and it's there Panthers first win of the season.
Now let's look ahead to next week, Week four. We
have a few intriguing matchups for this week. In the NFL,

(45:19):
a pair of three and zero teams do battle down
in the Sunshine State. Eagles head to Tampa Bay for
a one pm kickoff against the Bucks, and on the
flip side, a pair of oh and three teams do battle.
Battle of Houston. There's the current occupant Texans do battle
with the former Tennessee Titans, both teams again zero to
three looking for their first win of the year, and

(45:42):
in the four to twenty five slot. An intriguing watch
for the Bills fans. Hopefully the Bills are just coming
off a comfortable win against the Saints. Tune into this game,
is there, you know, driving home or sitting on their couch.
Kansas City hosts Baltimore. Both teams are one and two.
One's going to get the five hundred. One's going to
drop to one and three barring a tie. And for

(46:04):
rooting interests for Bills fans, let's take a look at
this as we chase the top seed later in the season.
Baltimore Kansas City have been those teams something to look
forward to. You want to Baltimore win in this game.
The Ravens, they sit two back of the Bills, but
with the tiebreaker from the season opening win for the
Bills that is currently three games. The Chiefs are still

(46:26):
only two games back at one and two, and they
come to Buffalo later this season, so you know they
haven't we haven't played them yet. Kansas City drops to
one and three, however, and the Bills, again, like I said,
take care of business against the Saints. That lead is
three games just a month into the season. A treat
us Bills fans will enjoy considering last few years we've

(46:47):
been chasing the Chiefs and the Ravens. You know, if
you told me at the beginning of the season, a
month in, we'd be three games up on both of
those teams, again, I would have taken that any day
of the week. And with that, this has been your
week three. We kept from around the NFL and Ryan
and John take her home.

Speaker 2 (47:05):
Thanks Chris As. We didn't talk about how we were
going to do that, so I was afraid to talk
too much because I knew you were gonna hit that.
But yes, thank you Chris as always for your insight
around the National Football League. Thanks you especially especially interested
this weekend in the Ravens and Chiefs. I mean, if

(47:28):
you had told me of a month ago that one
of those teams will start the season one in three.
It's interesting because if Baltimore wins, then Buffalo technically has
a three game lead on both of them. But if
Kansas City wins, it's a four game lead on Baltimore
in a two game lead on Kansas City. Either way,
it doesn't matter at the end of the day, John,
if you just win your game, but.

Speaker 1 (47:46):
If they just keep winning, then there's no.

Speaker 2 (47:49):
The conversation, the conjecture is fun going into October here
right right? But our look ahead Week four, the Buffalo
Bills first in New Orleans Saints Sunday, September twenty eighth,
looks like it's going to be a I believe a
beautiful day.

Speaker 1 (48:03):
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (48:03):
Let me check the weather really quickly, as my phone
is not recognizing my face. I don't want to say
it's going to beautiful and then it's pissing.

Speaker 7 (48:11):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (48:11):
Yeah, a beauty. It looks like a beautiful Sunday uh
in Orchard Park, A beautiful one pm kickoff for a
fall game. Now that I realized this week it officially
became fall. Always corrects me up to that that they
you know they they the one of my favorite jokes.
I can't rememberho set up, but you know, England calls
it autumn because it's a beautiful.

Speaker 5 (48:31):
Time of year.

Speaker 2 (48:32):
America calls it fall because leaf fall down. M I
can't stop thinking about it.

Speaker 4 (48:36):
That.

Speaker 2 (48:36):
I thought you were gonna laugh or give me something.

Speaker 1 (48:38):
But that was no.

Speaker 4 (48:40):
No.

Speaker 1 (48:40):
I I you have a booing?

Speaker 2 (48:42):
Do you have someone that can you boom?

Speaker 1 (48:43):
I have I have? I think I actually I think
I accidentally removed the booing. I have to reinstall the
booing there. But I think the joke I had would
have had some sort of political humor tied to it.
And right now, make.

Speaker 2 (48:57):
Sure you take your make sure you take your tile
on al John.

Speaker 1 (49:00):
Yeah, I think I'd argue that I did.

Speaker 2 (49:02):
The New Orleans Saints oh to three to fourth in
the NFC South last week of forty four to thirteen
loss at Seattle. Now, not that there's any excuses here,
but the Saints had to fly to Seattle, go back
to New Orleans, and now they have to fly to
BUFFALOWFU absolutely awful the storylines here. The spread is spread
the early line Buffalo minus sixteen and a half per

(49:22):
Pro Football Reference quote. The current point spread would make
the Saints the biggest underdogs they have been in a
game since Weak nine of the nineteen seventy five season. John,
How big of an underdog are the Saints? Per cpssports
dot com, If you bet ten dollars on them to
pull off the upset, you'd win roughly one hundred and
six dollars. And per Syracuse dot com quote, this is

(49:43):
the most that Buffalo has been favored by since they
listed as a seventeen and a half point favorite against
the Houston Texans in twenty twenty one, a game that
they would go on to win and beat the Davis
Mills led Texans forty to nothing.

Speaker 1 (49:54):
I remember that.

Speaker 2 (49:56):
Spencer Rattler, quarterback a fifty one point seven QBR, eighteenth
in the w League, fourteenth most passing yards of six
hundred and thirty nine, has got four touches and one pick.
He's zero to nine and nine career NFL starts. A
big name to watch out for on Sunday. New Orleans
tight end Juwan Johnson. He has nineteen receptions, tied for
eighth most in the league. He has had at least
eight targets in each of New Orleans This three games

(50:17):
this season. Is a very big body, very talented, able
to catch the ball and make things happen. John Prediction
time ESPN's Matchup Predictor has seventy nine point six percent
of America predicting that Buffalo will defeat New Orleans. Who
you got, I'm with them.

Speaker 1 (50:32):
Let me be the one that adds that to bring
it to an even eighty percent. Not only will the
Buffalo Bills defeat the New Orleans Saints. But I think
the game is gonna be over by halftime, and I
think the end score is probably going to be more.
You know, Buffalo will have scored their points pretty early
and New Orleans will have scored their points in garbage time.

(50:53):
I'm going to say, with a final score given the spread,
if seventeen and a half half translated to forty to nothing,
the sixteen and a half I'm going to say will
be thirty eight nothing Buffalo.

Speaker 2 (51:12):
Fine, I'm gonna go. I know, last week we talked
about Bills buy a billion and they're going to destroy
the Dolphin to end up being a lot closer. I'm
a lot more confident in this game that you know
you want to see a team put up a fight,
because I mean, I guess you don't. Doesn't really matter
if they Bills be their.

Speaker 1 (51:30):
Dome team in an outside stadium, well the Dome.

Speaker 2 (51:34):
The Dome team in an outside stadium that traveled from
New Orleans to Seattle, to New Orleans to Buffalo, who
clearly looks like that they really want Arch Manning to
be the second Manning to play for the Saints.

Speaker 1 (51:47):
Among other things.

Speaker 2 (51:49):
Arch Arch I'm exactly I am John Belt to ass,
I'm saying, yeah, at least at least but Bill's by
at least thirty.

Speaker 1 (52:00):
I mean yeah.

Speaker 2 (52:02):
To me, the only way John, that this is not
a categorical complete beat down is if the Buffalo Bills
take the foot off the gas pedal. I mean it's
it's yeah, ye, Saints, they've they've they go they go
down quick, they go down early. Keep your comments to yourself.
And with this team, how are they gonna They don't

(52:24):
have enough firepower to come back from that.

Speaker 1 (52:26):
I don't, I I just I don't. There are games
that you can that you can comfortably say that, there
are games that you can't. This is one that you
comfortably can say that you you pretty much. Anything less
than buff than Buffalo winning would be a monumental surprise.
Like I don't know, I don't. I don't even think
New Orleans thinks they're winning. They're winning against Buffalo.

Speaker 2 (52:48):
At all every every uh.

Speaker 1 (52:50):
It's not a homer hat thing. This is not a
trust the podcast thing. This is a you look at
the spread, you look at the team, You look at
the way that they're designed, both of them, You look
at the way that they're playing, both of them, how
you say, John is the you know heads in above,
they're the NFL team. New Orleans is the UFL.

Speaker 2 (53:09):
I don't think that the Uh damn it? What was
I gonna say?

Speaker 4 (53:12):
Oh?

Speaker 2 (53:12):
I don't think the Seahawks are by any means a slouch. No,
but they are not there. They looked incredible last week
and they were up big early. The game was over
by the half. I mean, if if the Bills do
half of that, it's gonna be it's gonna be. Yeah,
let's go this way. Let's put it this way. But uh,
every time the Bills score in the in the trust

(53:34):
the podcast household, we play Shout on my phone from
YouTube until my buddy's working on my old coworker, A
good friend is working on making a button I can
hit that plays the song hopefully cool and EV and
I the soundboard. That'd be great. I've let and I
dance around and I throw up in the area, have
a good time. It's a lot of fun.

Speaker 1 (53:54):
Nice.

Speaker 2 (53:55):
We may I may be getting my workout and on Sunday,
I'll just put it that if we play it a lot,
I'm gonna be doing a lot of dancing and I'm.

Speaker 1 (54:01):
Not gonna by the third quarter, Ryan's holding his back
after having a couple of time.

Speaker 2 (54:07):
The Bills score enough. I may be shouting because my
back hurts, not because exactly, yes, exactly now, before we
wrap this thing up, boom or please, by all means,
my friend, take it away.

Speaker 5 (54:20):
No one circles the wagons like the Buffalo Bills.

Speaker 2 (54:25):
For John Somino, for Adam Roberts, for the Unholy jack
Wagon Chris Downie Down, I am Ryan Wolf. We are
trust the podcast.

Speaker 1 (54:40):
You're not.

Speaker 2 (54:41):
We'll catch you, same time, same place next week. Thanks
again as always for tuning in.

Speaker 9 (54:46):
