Gearnetwork dot Com. The following is a presentation of the
Gear Radio Network.
Speaker 2 (00:10):
I believe it's a big challenge for our building to
keep things in perspective and to if we're going to
get addicted to anything, let's get addicted to the process.
Speaker 1 (00:20):
And with that we welcome you to trust the podcast
powered by Better Live Than Dead and the Gear Radio Network.
This year is episode one seventy nine.
Speaker 3 (00:29):
Episode one is seven and nine Buffalo Bills versus New
England Patriots. I've already forgotten more than I care to
know about this game.
Speaker 1 (00:39):
I don't blame you.
Speaker 4 (00:40):
John.
Speaker 1 (00:40):
First off, I'm Ryan Olphi, Johnsonmino my co host O
me as always yes, John, Well, first off, before we
get too far, you can hear us on Better Live
than Dead dot com, which if you did that this week, Sorry,
I forgot to update the website. My apologies, gearnetwork dot com.
Wherever else you listen to podcasts, make sure to hit
the subscribe button as well to stay up to date
on the latest podcast. John, I don't disagree with you,
(01:03):
very forgetful Sunday night for the Buffalo Bills for me again,
I'm not doing this. I'm not fishing for compliments. Here,
but Sunday was my birthday, so it was a very
nice way to end the day until the game happened
that I'm like, man, this kind of this kind of stinks,
but it is what it is. You know exactly, You're
not going to win every single game, right, And I
(01:23):
don't want to sit here and pretend like we are Nostrodama.
If I don't know, if I don't know, if it's
like a deer deer, goose, goose, geese geese thing, I
don't know, but I don't want to sit here John
and be like, hey, we we knew this was going
to happen. But like we have been talking about this
for weeks now, where we have been saying, if the
Buffalo Bills continue to play like this, they're going to
lose a game that they win. And here we are
(01:45):
the debut of the of the rivalry. Jersey goes belly
up a twenty three to twenty loss to the New
England Patriots. Again fart sounds.
Speaker 3 (01:53):
Of Buffalo with those jerseys on. Though, I mean it
looked nice. I think it would have probably hit home
harder if this were in like December.
Speaker 1 (02:00):
And yeah, but the problem with that is that you
would not be able to see the players, and that
would be a very big disadvantage. It would be it
would be better if, like it was snowing and you
made the road team wear white and you wore the
color uniform so you could see your team. Yeah, because
that's that's more of an advantage. But uh yeah, I mean,
first off, we don't want to blame the referees, but
(02:21):
Sean Hockeyley was not awful.
Speaker 3 (02:26):
You guys, you you guys can stick to that that.
I'm not on the freaking Sean hockey was awful, Yes,
but it definitely was not the cause of any of
Buffalo's transgressions in that game.
Speaker 1 (02:39):
Again, they ended the game with eight penalties and two
turnovers in the first half for the for the first time,
or they had sorry, they had six penalties and two
turnovers in the first half, or the first time since
twenty fifteen. The end of the game with six offensive
penalties and three offensive turnovers, or maybe it was eight penalties.
I don't remember. A lot of penalties.
Speaker 3 (02:59):
So many flags we forgot, We forgot more than we
care to remember.
Speaker 1 (03:03):
Yeah, my wife went to bed because she had just
had enough and said, this is boring. It's hard to
get into because it's just play play flag, flag flag flag,
play flag flag flag, play flag, and you're just like,
I can't, I'm exiled. I'm going to bed.
Speaker 3 (03:16):
Oh in the sentiment, I maybe got through like the
beginning of the fourth quarter when I realized where it
was and I was just like in.
Speaker 1 (03:23):
A so I understand. I understand that the Buffalo Bills
do have a poor record when when Sean Hockeyley is
the referee against the Buffalo Bills, he calls a lot
of holding calls against the Buffalo Bills. But here's the thing,
it's much like losing on a game ending field goal
or as a field goal as time EXPIRER. Sorry, I'm
(03:45):
a little I took some use in X today and
my sinuses are currently draining and my brain is like
in a fish bowl. So I'm trying my best here. Shockingly, John,
I could knock you over a feather. It's trust the podcast,
and I think I'm getting a cold.
Speaker 3 (03:58):
Stop me.
Speaker 1 (03:58):
If you've heard this before, Ryan's sick.
Speaker 3 (04:01):
Everybody breaking news. I'm not.
Speaker 1 (04:05):
I'm not super sick yet, but it's going around the
house and I'm I'm I think next in line here
Howard Simon points out quote the last time the Bills
went an entire half without a touchdown in a regular
season game was Week nine versus Miami last year. It's
the lowest scoring half in a regular season game since
Week five at Houston last year. John, again, if if
(04:25):
the referee is going to call the game tight, tighten
your game up.
Speaker 3 (04:29):
It was.
Speaker 1 (04:29):
It was stupid mental mistakes like, oh, the tackle was
off the line and the wide receiver wasn't on the
line of scrimmage, but therefore he was he was uncovered,
making it a formation, an illegal formation, or whatever the
situation was. Again, there were some calls where you know, hey,
that you didn't get a pass interference or you didn't
(04:49):
get whatever. But at the end of the day, you
have to adjust because complaining about it not gonna get
you anywhere, as you can see. And again, it was
just it was. It was a miserable game. Usually when
the Bills lose, it ends up being a miserable game
because you know that they're capable of so much more,
Yet here we are.
Speaker 3 (05:09):
It's it's it's that thing, and we'll delve into it
as part of the three big things when we run
down the offense and we talk about that dream boat
Josh Allen and what he does consistently every game.
Speaker 1 (05:23):
But it reminds me this meme I saw.
Speaker 3 (05:27):
I think it might have been Monday or maybe Tuesday
after the game, where it was you know, Josh Allen
doing Josh Allen and it said I'm something to the
effect of, I am completely convinced that the Buffalo Bills
are run by inept people, but that Josh Allen somehow
manages to save their job week to week.
Speaker 1 (05:49):
I mean, I'll just I will just jump into the
three Big Things here because I actually know something I
wanted to share. Oh, okay, Three Big Things brought to
you by Buffalogo. Buffalogo is a Buffalo based marketing and
merchandising company that specializes in screen printing, embroidery, and branding services.

Running down the offense here Josh Allen twenty two of
thirty one, two h and fifty three passing yards, two touches,
one interception, and nine caris for fifty three yards. Friend
of mine pointed out that Joe Brady calls the game
(06:55):
like Josh Allen is not his quarterback, and that came
to a head last night while on Sunday, right, And
I think that kind of goes to your comment of yes,
there are there are times where, I mean, this offense
has to go through Josh Allen, There's no doubt about it.
Speaker 3 (07:09):
Yeah. Absolutely, he's too good to keep on a leash
when they and when they when they get conservative. That's
exactly you know, in terms of the game plan, that's
exactly what it's like. He calls. Brady calls a game
like Josh Allen is in this quarterback like you don't.
You don't trot the MVP of the league, who only
is getting better and is on record watches every single
(07:31):
week and it's consistently, consistently keep bailing out the defense,
bailing out a bunch of like you. You have to
go with that. You can't just for the sake of
switching it up, switch it up to something that doesn't work,
you know what I mean. You've got to give the
man you're paying the opportunity consistently first rite or refusal.
(07:54):
You have to keep them in the game. You just
you just can't do that.
Speaker 1 (07:57):
And let's be honest. This week, the defense did their
job and the offense needed to bail them out.
Speaker 3 (08:02):
Yep.
Speaker 1 (08:02):
And there were again the interception. Josh Allen had no
business making that throw.
Speaker 3 (08:09):
That was it.
Speaker 1 (08:09):
That was an old school Josh Allen interception where you're
just trying to do too much. There's two high safeties
and you try to force the ball to Khalil Shakir
and the safety just jumps right in front of it.
Speaker 3 (08:19):
Human error.
Speaker 1 (08:20):
You know, you should not be you should not be
forcing that throw. There were a couple throws to Keon
Coleman that were incredibly forced where for some reason, and
I don't necessarily think it's Josh Allen. I think it
may be the play call, or maybe it's a bit
of both. They seem to love to try to force
the ball to Keon Coleman in a fifty to fifty situation.
I understand that that is his bread and butter. But
(08:42):
at the same time, every pass to Keyon Coleman does
not need to be a fifty to fifty ball because
well it's fifty to fifty for a reason. It's gonna
work half the time. But Josh Allen did mention after
the game quote we played. We just played sloppy, not
going to win a football game. Turning the ball over
three times in our red zone, gave them one in
their red zone. That's just bad, bad football. And we
did not play good, just did not play good tonight.
(09:04):
We shouldn't have even been in it with three turnovers. Again,
that's just piss poor offense.
Speaker 3 (09:09):
And I don't you know, yeah, I don't disagree at all.
I mean, you can sense right from the jump that
the offense wasn't completely in sync. I think we talked
about it even during the game where it just felt
like it was off a little bit. Three turnovers are
going to kill you, you know, I don't want to
say every single time, but just about every single If
you turn the ball over three times, that that pushes
(09:31):
the line back a little further for you.
Speaker 1 (09:33):
Yeah, you've got the one where they were going to
the call they called what appeared to be a jet
sweep to Dawson Knox, which you're like, why the hell
would you ever call that play? And then that was
it was a fumble on Josh Allen because Dawson Knox's
on his thigh his ass cheek hit the ball out
of Josh's hand.
Speaker 3 (09:50):
But again, you know from the files, I'm doing well.
I mean, I will say this from the files of
Josh Allen, that man can do no wrong.
Speaker 1 (09:58):
In my eyes.
Speaker 3 (10:00):
You gotta love the fact that he's not making excuses
and he's owned he's owning it, and he's holding self
and his team accountable like he's not you know, the
he's not ref's this, ref this, he's he's straight up
saying this is bad football. We just simply did not
play well. Like those Those may be the health answer,
it may not be the sexiest answer to hear. It
may not be like what modern what brand new fans
(10:21):
want to hear, like, oh, what the hell you should
be that mad? Like no, he's saying, straight up, we
sucked and we could have played better, and we're gonna
go back to the drawing board and we're gonna do it.
So I I love that when you know. And that's
another thing to put in the files. Like I said
of Josh Allen, the man can do no wrong in
my eyes.
Speaker 1 (10:37):
I mean again, there's there's if you made no mistakes
and you threw for four hundred yards and four touchdowns
and you just got a bad cal from a ref
or something didn't break your way.
Speaker 3 (10:47):
I get it.
Speaker 1 (10:48):
But at that point, again, you still I've always said
this over the years, you cannot put yourself in that position.
If you continue to put yourself in that position, let
teams hang around, it's gonna burn you at some point.
D I mean again, the defense did their job. We'll
talk about that in a few minutes. But offensively, again,
there was no flow. It was very clunky.
Speaker 3 (11:07):
Again.
Speaker 1 (11:08):
I understand that a lot of penalties don't help out
with that, but just the play calling again, you wonder
to yourself. Joe Brady has proven it, and I know that.
We watch Bills games and we go, yeah, they're just
not You're getting seventy percent of the playbook or sixty
five percent of the playbook. And it's like, Okay, you
watched the Eagles play on Thursday Night Football and they're
doing They've got three wide receiver or three receivers lined
(11:31):
up on the line, and then they have that weird
they like pitch it to Dallas Goddard and he dives
in the end zone for a touchdown. It's like, Okay,
that's probably when you want to keep for the playoffs
in case you need to get a touchdown. But again,
the Bills aren't doing stuff like that because again they
keep that stuff in their back pocket. But then you
wonder to yourself, are they hamstringing themselves. Plus also, after
(11:53):
I read that Josh Allen quote and put it in
our notes here for the show, I'm not guaranteeing anything
with the Welkins game next week, but I said, oh boy,
this offense is gonna come out next week with some
oh a big old with a big old chip on
their shoulder.
Speaker 3 (12:09):
And that's the one thing that Noah one wants is
the new modern day bad man JA seventeen. With any
sort of chip on his shoulder, he makes people look
silly without alone with one. You give that man any
kind of motivation, he's gonna he's gonna dice you. And
it's and it's not even gonna be he's gonna put.
Speaker 1 (12:28):
Up video game numbers.
Speaker 3 (12:29):
And we've seen it before, and so I'm kind of
with you on that, like not saying, hey, look at Atlanta,
but you know you might want to prepare.
Speaker 1 (12:40):
We writing the record books with Josh Allen our weekly
segment here, he is up to two hundred and seventy
four career regular season touchdowns, which is twelve more. I
don't know if I adjusted the twelve, just it's more
than any player in NFL history through the first eight seasons.
Let's just be thank you. His two hundred and seventy
four total regular season touchdowns are now third most by
an NFL player in their first nine seasons, trailing only
(13:01):
Peyton Manning at two hundred and eighty eight and Russell
Wilson at two hundred and eighty nine. Again, reminder, Josh
Allen is in his eighth season, so he still got
a year and three quarters of a season of seasons
to catch them. You know what I think about that,
But I love it, Always loved that thirty four touchdown
(13:21):
passes away from two hundred and thirty eight career, which
would surpass Jim Kelly for the most all time in
franchise history. Josh Allen Josh Allen completed the game with
twenty seven, six hundred and fifty one career passing yards,
surpassing Joe Ferguson for second most passing yards all time
in franchise history.
Speaker 3 (13:35):
They have a feeling there's going to be a lot
more of these coming down the pike.
Speaker 1 (13:38):
But so now this might not be a hoorray. This
is more of a just an FYI saw, you know,
because it's a bit of ways away. But Josh Allen
now being second all time eight hundred and seventeen passing
yards away from three thousand or thirty five thousand, four
hundred and sixty eight care passing yards, excuse me, which
would be the most all time in franchise history, currently
(13:59):
held by Jim Kelly thirty and sixty seven.
Speaker 3 (14:02):
I don't know that I have a sound for like
those kind of middle of the line type things like
it's not a hooray, but it's not an eh, it's
it's I don't, I don't. I'll have to try and
find something neat.
Speaker 1 (14:13):
Well, if there's enough Josh allenclips out there, we'll have
to find something that's like neat or cool. Well, we'll
set you know what, Chris, Chris Downey, you know you're
clearly how about this one?
Speaker 3 (14:22):
How about this one?
Speaker 1 (14:23):
Dog? Sure that works for now, But Chris Downey, if
you're listening, there's your new job. Go find a cool
Josh allenclip where he says neat or cool or awesome
or radical. That's what we need, Josh Allen exactly. I
always forget about that damn clip.
Speaker 3 (14:42):
I never will.
Speaker 1 (14:44):
Josh Allen is ninety two rushing yards away from four thy,
four hundred and forty six in his career, which would
be fourth most all time infranchise history. Joe Cribbs currently
holds that record. Josh Allen is thirty two thousand, twenty
four total yards in his first eight seasons, traliing Patrick
Mahomes for the most total yards players first eight seasons
by two thousand, five hundred and seventy nine total yards
Currently Josh Allen is seventh most all time, trailing Derek
(15:06):
Carr by just four hundred and ten yards for sixth
most all time. Moving over to James Cook real quick
here fifteen carries for forty nine yards, no receptions on
one target. His franchise record eight game regular season rushing
touchdown scoring streak was snapped. That was a difficult sentence
to write because I feel like it didn't make sense.
But essentially, for the first time in nine games, he
(15:27):
didn't score a regular season rushing touchdown. He did surpass
Cookie Gyiochris though, for twelve all time in franchise history.
He is now sixty four rushing yards away from surpassing
Devin Singletary for the eleventh most rushing yards all time
in franchise history. He has won rushing touchdown away from
twenty six career rushing touchdowns, which he is oh good
(15:50):
lord here currently tied in ninth with Lashaw McCoy and
Jack Kemp with twenty five career rushing touchdowns. Eighth most
would be Antoine Smith with twenty six. He's also two
rushing touchdowns away from twenty seven career rushing touchdowns, which
would tie.
Speaker 3 (16:04):
Man Swan Smith shout out name of the past.
Speaker 1 (16:07):
But this is an even better one for you. Okay,
two rushing touchdowns away from twenty seven career rushing touchdowns,
which would tie him seventh most all time in franchise history.
With Travis Henry.
Speaker 3 (16:18):
Oh my goodness for that, that is a great name
from the past. I forgot about him. I got you, dog,
I mean much forgot about him, but for you know,
you know what I mean.
Speaker 1 (16:28):
No, but he's got a name that when you hear
you go, oh, yeah, I.
Speaker 3 (16:30):
Remember him, you know. But to go over, you know,
just a small thing like yeah, only forty nine yards,
no catches in that touchdown streak snaps. But when you
zoom out of the overall body of work with James Cook,
he's really been one of the more consistent pieces of
this reference absolutely, and.
Speaker 1 (16:48):
It's pretty impressive. So it's just a matter of rhythm.
Speaker 3 (16:50):
You know. If the run game never gets really established,
you know, it forces Josh to do much more than
he needs to. But when Cook gets going, the whole
offense tends to breathe these year So maybe you know,
come Atlanta, maybe you know I feed Cook a little more?
Speaker 1 (17:06):
Well, I did, I did send you a clip rate
before the show, John, that you can add to the soundboard.
We don't need to use it this week because well,
James Cook did not cook very much. Sure, sure, we'll
hold on to it. I'll look someone who did cook
titand Dalton kin Kid six receptions on six targets for
one hundred and eight yards, a career high one hundred
eight receiving yards. He continues to appear to be the
key to unlocking this offense. Wide receiver key on Coleman
(17:29):
four receptions for seven targets on twenty three or for
twenty three yards in a touchdown. He was benched for
the first offensive drive on Sunday, per Buffalo rumblings. Quote
in what McDermott described as a head coach discipline, McDermott
kept Coleman on the silence for Buffalo's first drive, which
ended when tight end Dawson knocks bobbled the hand off
and fumbled the ball. Excuse me, fumbled the ball away? Quote. Well,
(17:49):
we expect more, McDermott said, when asked of reporters if
he was disappointed in Coleman's actions. Quote, and he has
shown growth this year, he has. We're looking for more
consistency continues to be a problem with Coleman. Doesn't seem
like it was a big deal, but good on, good
on McDermott to say, look at you. You didn't you
didn't meet the expectations set before you. So we're going
to have to take some some pun right and we're
(18:10):
going to have to show you that you got to
get your stuff together, get your things in line, because.
Speaker 3 (18:15):
And I would argue that you know, we responded with
message received, coach. Sorry, absolutely, you know I mean, and
that's good, and that's that's that's healthy, not just in football,
but in any line of business, disciplining where appropriate to
help develop a if you can tell the underlying tone
in my voices from our prefits from our previous conversation,
(18:38):
But the same rules apply, you know what I mean.
If if someone's not meeting uh an expectation, you know,
especially in a gain in in athletic competition of any kind,
doesn't matter the sport, you know, you gotta do what
you gotta do to move the team.
Speaker 1 (18:53):
For does Helt too ass Helt to ass There you
go water Eltow number two exactly exactly, say you get it.
Wide receiver Curtis Samuel two receptions on two targets for
twenty six yards and a touchdown. This is important because
he is the eighth Different Bill to score a scrimmage
touched on the season, which is tied for second most
to the National Football League Baltimore leads the league with nine.
(19:15):
And a quick injury update, center Connor McGovern suffered a
hand injury, did not miss any playing time. Sean McDermott
is quote hopeful McGovern will play in Atlanta on Monday night.
Shifting to the defense. Now, John again, the rolling mass
unit that is the Buffalo Bill's defense. I'm going to
get the injury report popped up here. Defensive tackle at
(19:39):
Oliver miss Sunday's game with an ankle injury. He did
post on Instagram on Wednesday that it appears he is
returning to the field. He was limited on Thursday in practice.
Linebacker Matt Malonell left Sunday's game with a pectoral injury.
He lasted one half and John my boy has got
himself a weak titty. He cannot stop messing up that
pectoral injury. He has missed twenty seven game since the
(20:00):
start of the twenty twenty three season. His status has
been described as quote week to week. The Bills did
respond by signing linebacker linebacker Balen Specter which I put
in parentheses barf and cornerback Jalen Kimber to the practice squad,
releasing linebacker Otis Reese the fourth in a corresponding move.
So again, Matt Malono plays an important role in his defense,
(20:21):
but it seems like the Buffalo Bills may need to
start planning to play football without him. I know Shaq
Thompson has stepped up in his absence, but again, you
may need to make some adjustments, maybe I don't know,
a trade or signing somebody, or just again continuing to
build your depth because injuries are going to happen. If
anybody in this league knows, it's this Buffalo Bills franchise
(20:43):
that injuries are going to happen, and well, Matt Milano,
I don't know. I don't know what to do with him.
Speaker 3 (20:52):
I mean, week to week sounds optimistic, but he's been
through the hell and hopefully this injury.
Speaker 1 (20:59):
Is not season threatening.
Speaker 3 (21:01):
But yeah, I think to your point, you may want
to if you are the Buffalo Bills brass the general manager,
try to look to see where you can fill and
backfill that linebacker position there because who knows who.
Speaker 1 (21:14):
I just I just wonder if right now you you
slow burn it, let him come back as he comes back,
because again he clearly wasn't healthy, despite the fact that
he may have felt good. Yeah, and those pectoral injuries
are are tough.
Speaker 3 (21:27):
I mean regard regardless of the result of this game,
and how they play a bad game every now and
then is not uncommon in football. So I expect Buffalo
is going to bounce back and be okay. So from
that aspect, I would say the slow burn for Milano
would probably be the the you know, smart a good
strategy there.
Speaker 1 (21:45):
I mean, only only one team has ever gone undefeated
and it's them annoying as Dolphins.
Speaker 3 (21:51):
I had to hear freaking Mercury Morris from the grave.
Pop is goddamn cork again. But but no, I mean, like,
if the play here that hindered the Buffalo Bills in
this past game turns out to be a consistent thing
that where we begin to see, then at that point,
you know, the.
Speaker 1 (22:12):
The gravity of.
Speaker 3 (22:15):
That injury becomes a bit more heavier and they may
need to take some action. But I think right now,
I think they realize where they are, where their areas
of opportunity were. It was kind of exposed this past Sunday.
So this week will be a very very good determination
and whether or not they are able to successfully make
(22:35):
whatever adjustments they need to make to get back to
kind of cruise control like they had been. And then
if they can, then you know, never fear. Let Milano's
injury heal and kind of do what you can to
get everybody healthy. You know, It's it's just it's it's
it's tough because there's just so any injuries and right now,
(22:56):
thanks to this loss and the Eagles losing as well,
not just not only last week but last night, the
NFL is more wide open now than it's ever been.
Speaker 1 (23:05):
Yeah, I mean not.
Speaker 3 (23:07):
For the chests, they're tone already, but like literally there's
you know, the point we made yet last week about
the margin of error from elite team to good team
in the NFL is much tighter than it would be
in Major League Baseball. This past week showed exactly that.
Speaker 1 (23:25):
So I do have something for you on that gun.
Speaker 3 (23:29):
It's not something you know, I think Buffalo need. I
hope they don't get comfortable. I hope they they had
come in with that chip on the shoulder and adjust
and treat every game like it's their first and not
get caught up in record and were this far ahead
and blah blah blah blah.
Speaker 1 (23:43):
You know what I mean, absolutely, and don't forget the
Yankees lose, shut up ran, Thank you. Linebacker Dorian Williams.
I think his I think his status John is going
to be more important to what the Buffalo builds needs
to do at linebacker because he's While I'm not one
(24:06):
hundred percent sure if if he's the answer, he's He's
been effective, had some struggles this season. Missed the game
on Sunday with kne injury. Considered day to day. He
was limited in practice. But if he can't come back,
your depth at linebacker is is pretty pretty pretty rough.
Uh So again, maybe they force him to do something,
(24:26):
but God forbid, please don't. I don't want to see
Baylen Spector playing again for the Bills. Man. That's rough.
That's very rough. Defensive tackle TJ. Sanders miss Sunday's game
with the knee injury suffered in practice. Has not been
ruled out for the game on Monday night, but was
a d NP in Thursday and practice, joining only Matt
Malana with that status. Cornerback Dorian Strong was placed on
(24:47):
the IR with a neck injury. He will be seeing
a specialist. There is a potential this injury could end
his season. Looking at the rest of the of the
injury report here, Dan Dawkins limited with a thumb, Damar
Hamill limited with a pectoral injury, Dalton Kincaid limited with
an oblique at Oliver limited with his ankle, Taylor rap
nose injury limited, Curtis Samuel neck and ribs limited, and
(25:08):
again Rory and Williams linebacker limited. So again, we have
already reached peak. It's October, almost mid October, and we've
already reached peak football injury season, which is always the best.
Speaker 3 (25:19):
It seemed it seems to be peak injury football season
for the Buffalo Bills, like towards the end of training camp,
but it really isn't always.
Speaker 1 (25:25):
It never fails. Wrapping up the rest of the defense here,
they allowed Stefan Diggs old Friend to amass one hundred
and forty six receiving yards on ten receptions, most receiving
yards allowed by a former Bill against Buffalo, which again Okay,
they made a point to get him the ball a lot,
and he did a very good job. And you know,
I don't understand all the Stefan digs hate people are
(25:48):
being idiots on the internet, which is shockingly what people
on the internet do. But I digress Buffalo bills exactly.
They had four team sacks in total, one sack each
for Greg Rusau Cole Bishop and checked in a half
a sack each for Dean Walker and Agepanessa. Buffalo's defense
held New England to three for nine on third down,
seventy one rushing yards and also recorded the takeaway. Last
(26:08):
thing here. Mitch Wishnowski signed to the active roster earlier
last week. Two punts for seventy yards a thirty five
yard average not great, but also at the same time,
you don't want this offense to be punching the ball
a lot, So there is that.
Speaker 3 (26:22):
Yeah. I mean this whole the whole game game it
wasn't pretty. I mean the game itself wasn't pretty. And
you know, it's one of those wins that you know,
it's one of those things where good teams will always
find a way to win. And I don't want to
excuse I don't want to throw shade on the Patriots.
I think they have something there with Drake may and
and Vrabes in the culture there, like I think they
(26:46):
I don't think they're a piss poor team. I just
don't think they were at the I think Buffalo played
down quite a bit in this one. You know, turnover,
the turnover is the big thing. But even though the
defense you know, still held strong. Just they just got
(27:07):
to clean up some ship before Atlanta. It's just really
what you just gotta They were exposed for some of
the ship. They needed to clean up and they need
to hope they hopefully between Sunday night and and you
know Sunday, right.
Speaker 1 (27:21):
That's why they're playing Sunday, right, Yeah, the Bills. The
Bills are playing on Oh no, they're playing Monday night.
Speaker 3 (27:26):
So so between Sunday night and Monday night, hopefully they clean.
Speaker 1 (27:30):
It up and sure, you know they'll be good. But
speaking of speaking of cleaning things up, we're gonna take
a quick commercial break here with more Trust the Podcasts.
I should say, we'll be back right after this quick
commercial break with More Trust the Podcast here on the
Gear Radio Network. And we're back here on Trust the podcast,
our third of the Three Big Things. As always John

the Unholy jack Wagon The Unpaid In turn, Chris Downey
Around the NFL, take it away.
Speaker 4 (29:01):
Chris, Ryan and John, thank you as always, and welcome
to Week five of Around the NFL. We're gonna dive
right in starting off no more unbeatens in the National
Football League has previously discussed. Our Bills unfortunately took their
first loss of the year Sunday night, but the other
unbeaten Philadelphia. They suffered their first loss this past weekend,
(29:24):
a twenty one seventeen defeat at home against the bow
Nicks led at Denver Broncos. Nicks and the Broncos scored
eighteen straight in the fourth quarter to seal the win.
Now Monday Night helped was helpful for the Bills in
the AFC standings. Jacksonville, they knocked off Kansas City thirty
one to twenty eight. The Chiefs, one of the top
contenders AC champion last year. They blew a fourteen point
(29:46):
lead in this one for their third loss of the season.
Trevor Lawrence scored the game winning touchdown on a broken
play late in the fourth quarter. He was stepped on
by his own lineman, fell to the turf and he
went untouched in the backfield, got up and was able
to scamp in for the score. Now, the other AFC
team we've been focused on for the first few weeks
of the year that could be a threat to the
(30:06):
Bills atop the AFC the Ravens. They took a bad
loss this weekend. I know they've been out with injuries,
forty four to ten at home against the Houston Texans.
Lamar Jackson was out for this game, as well as
numerous key defensive players. Baltimore, they are one and four
on the year. Now, I'm not saying it's time to
(30:27):
focus on other teams in the AFC, but the Chiefs.
We still have to play the Chiefs. But there are
two games back of the Bills through five weeks and
Baltimore they're now five with the tiebreaker. I don't want
to write them off because anything can happen, but Baltimore
would have a lot of work to do just to
catch our Bills. Jonathan Taylor. He continues his strong start
(30:49):
to the season, scoring three times and the Colts is
forty to six win over Vegas Sunday. Taylor has six
rushing scores and almost five hundred yards on the ground
through five games the Colts. They are the current number
one seed in the AFC, sitting at four and one.
Jacksonville's the other four and one team, but they are
sitting in the top wild card. Those teams will have
(31:11):
a pair of matchups later this season. Bucks wyedt I
Mecha Buca had his second consecutive hundred yard game on Sunday,
pulling in one hundred and sixty four yards to one score.
He now has five touchdowns on the season. He has
scored in four of the five games for the Bucks
played this year. The Bucks they went up to Seattle,
(31:32):
got the thirty eight to thirty five win in an
absolute barn burner of a game, twenty five points by
the Bucks in the second half to take the win.
Tennessee they got its first win of the year and
come back fashion the Titans Trial twenty one to three
in the first half, but they scored nineteen straight, including
sixteen in the fourth quarter, down the Arizona Cardinals twenty
(31:54):
two to twenty one out in the desert, cam Ward
through for two hundred and sixty five yards and the win.
One hundred and thirty one of them went to Calvin
Ridley and lastly, well before we get to this, looking
at the standings, really quick. The Jags and Colts they
play twice at the end of the year in December,
so those will definitely have some AFC standing implications. The
Bills tied for first, but sitting in second due to
(32:17):
a tiebreaker that's currently in place both four and one
Steelers three and one leading their division, three and two
Chargers in the fourth spot leading their division.
Speaker 3 (32:27):
Now.
Speaker 4 (32:28):
The Patriots, who currently the tiebreak over the Bills, sit
in that second wildcard at three and two, with the
Broncos also at three and two in the last wildcard spot.
Out in the NFC, we have a log jam at
the top. All four divisional leaders have four wins through
the first five games. Green Bay is at first wildcard,
(32:50):
Seattle and Minnesota at three and two for the second,
but Washington and the Rams are also at three and two,
lurking right behind the Saints. They got their first win
of the year this weekend this last weekend, twenty six
to fourteen over the New York Football Giants on Sunday,
(33:10):
and that motivated Giants because they turned right around and
they beat the Eagles last night on Thursday Night Football
thirty four to seventeen. Philly drops the four in two
on the year the Giants. Yes, the New York Giants
improved a two and four, and yes that is breaking
the fourth wall. This is a Friday recording, so yes
we can share Thursday game results Camp Scataboo though in
(33:33):
the win for the Giants over the Eagles ninety eight
yards three scores as the Giants again thirty four to
seventeen winners last night on Thursday Night Football. Again, we
can do what we want. And with that, this has
been your week five, Week six Thursday Night football recap
(33:54):
from around the NFL. Ryan and John take her home.
Speaker 1 (33:57):
As always, Chris, thank you you down. I did wait
this time for that. I'm getting better, I'm getting better.
Paying attention. Hell yes, hell, yes, our look ahead here
now John. Week six Buffalo Bills at the Atlanta Falcons Monday,
October thirteenth, uh seven to fifteen pm on ESPN. Yes,
(34:18):
it's a little earlier because there's a double header on
Monday Night Football. The Atlanta Falcons are two and two,
second in the NFC South right. Now, no idea where
they are in the NFC, because again I did not
look that up, but I would presume it's early. They're
in it. Last week was a thirty four to twenty
seven win over the Washington It is the NFC South,
(34:40):
so yeah, exactly.
Speaker 3 (34:41):
I mean the na could be in it. They could
be the New York Jets could be in the in
the NFC South traditionally.
Speaker 1 (34:47):
I mean, at this point, the NFC South is so strange, man,
It's always been so strange. Storylines. Here quarterback Michael Pennock
Junior seventeenth in the National Football League with fifty seven
a fifty seven point six qb A are running back
Bijon Robinson, who's probably set to give this Bill's defense
some sort of a headache. He's got three hundred and
fourteen rushing yards, tied for fifteenth National Football League, but
(35:09):
he leads Atlanta in rushing and receiving yards. So again,
keep an eye on Bijon Robbins and he'll probably eat
because again, he's really really damned. If you haven't watched
Bijon Robinson play football, you are in for a treat
on Monday night. I promise you that they've they've learned
very well how to use him and how to utilize
his talents. I say this because I've had him on
(35:31):
my fantasy football team. Multiple times and watched enough Atlanta
Falcons games to go. Do you understand what this guy
can do? As I'm yelling at my tablet and then
they figure it out and it's very impressive, you know. Indeed,
predictions here ESPN the matchup predictor has sixty two point
five percent of America predicting Buffalo will defeat Atlanta. John
what you got.
Speaker 3 (35:51):
I'm gonna stick with them, and I'm willing to roll
with Buffalo on this one because Atlanta they may be fun.
You know, Pennix has shown flashes god to it. And incidentally,
it takes a lot for me to not say another
word whenever I reference Michael Pennox Bjon's electric. But let's
be honest, if they clean, if the Buffalo Bills clean
(36:15):
up what was exposed this past Sunday night, I do
think this Bills team should handle business. The defense has
been opportunistic, the offense has a lot of firepower. Josh
Allen is Josh Allen.
Speaker 1 (36:27):
He's the bad man.
Speaker 3 (36:28):
If Buffalo can protect the football and the defense can
limit Bijon's yards after contact.
Speaker 1 (36:34):
They'll pull away late.
Speaker 3 (36:35):
I'm gonna say, I'm going to say I've got the
Bills winning thirty one to twenty.
Speaker 1 (36:39):
Taking care of business. I feel like the Buffalo Bills
have to do what teams have done to them and
limit the opportunity for the opposing team to exactly get
back to holding onto the ball, getting the run game going,
get the short pass game, so that way again, you
eat the clock, you score touch downs again. You just
(37:01):
need to just get back into a rhythm. Stop doing
dumb things, stop calling the stupid play. Do the more
of the score points play please right? I think again,
the defense, if they get out at Oliver back, that's
going to be a huge, huge, huge thing for this
defense because the one thing they struggled with without Oliver
being out is getting any sort of internal pressure on
(37:24):
that defensive line, which again has really negated the exterior
pass rush of Joey Bosa and Greg Russo, which they
still have gotten theirs for sure, but having that dominating
force up the middle has been a point of emphasis
without at Oliver being in the lineup, and again it's
not been there. So hoping that at Oliver returning will
(37:46):
take some pressure off the back end of that Bill's defense,
I mean, I think this is a get right game
for the Buffalo Bills. I would have to say it's
it may still be a game with the half, but
I think again after the half, the Bill start to
pull away, and especially if they get their their things
in line. And I've got the Bills taken this one.
Not sure what the score is, but I've got the
(38:07):
Bills taking this one because again, get right, get back
on track, figure things.
Speaker 3 (38:11):
Well, we'll roll with mine. Thirty one twenty was my
was my prediction. I'm gonna stare with that. One of
these days.
Speaker 1 (38:17):
I'm going to land it. That's fair, land the plane,
one of these things.
Speaker 3 (38:20):
And then and then there'll be plenty of this.
Speaker 1 (38:25):
That would be I would I would, I don't know
what I would do. If you've got the right score,
I would tell you to go play the lottery. I
don't even know if you do that, but play the
lottery man, maybe maybe. Well hey, with that with that
being said, I think we've got a friend who's ready
to help us take it home. No one circles the
wagons like the Buffalo Bills. For Johnstonmino and Chris Downey,
(38:47):
I am Ryan Wolf. As always, we are trust the podcast.
Speaker 3 (38:51):
You're not.
Speaker 1 (38:52):
We'll catch you, same time, same place next week. As always,
thank you for tuning in and go Bills shout.
Speaker 3 (38:58):
