Speaker 1 (00:04):
Thanks for listening to our upcoming podcast on Erskine Radio.
Gordon Chang, It's an honor having him with us. He's
a columnist, He's more than that a columnist. He's probably
one of the best experts on China that we have
in this country. He's a columnist, a blogger, television pundit, author,
and lawyer. Widely, we're known for his book The Coming
(00:26):
Collapse of China. The Coming Collapse of China, Gather those words.
That's a book you need to read. Mister Chang speaks
Mandarin fluently, having worked for almost twenty years in Hong Kong,
Shanghai and mainland China. China is using colleges and universities
to influence US policies obtain information in a cold tech war.
(00:50):
His website is Gordon Chang dot com. His Twitter handle
is Gordon g Chang at Twitter. And We've got a
lot to talk about. We want to talk about about
the coming default in China, the possible Biden bailout. Biden
wants to partner with China and space. This is a
very dangerous move, isn't it, mister Chang.
Speaker 2 (01:12):
Oh, it certainly is China. Biden's transition team has been
talking about these cooperative ventures with China and space, and
that is just so misguided. First of all, it would
be the biggest transfer of US technology to China ever
in the words of some experts. But also we're going
to remember that China's ambitions in space are military and
(01:35):
they intend if they can do it, to deny the
Moon to other countries if they're the next country to
get there. So we've got to be mindful of China's ambitions.
And a lot of people say, oh, you know, we
need to develop these cooperative relationships with Beijing so that
we can have a good overall tone with China. You
(01:55):
can't do that if there's no common basis and no
common interest, and we certainly don't have common interest with
China right now. That's unfortunate. But we've got to recognize
the world as it is not the way the world
we would like it.
Speaker 1 (02:08):
So that's important absolutely. Now. One of the differences, and
I thought this was the most dangerous thing in the
world today China arrogance, and second most dangerous is Chinese insecurity.
You combine arrogance with insecurity and you've got a real problem.
This is what they have in China. Part of the
(02:29):
reason you understand this, and my friend Robert Brigadier General
Spaulding understands it. You're two of the few people who
speak Mandarin. We can't understand China unless we through the
war colleges at other places we graduate people who can
speak Mandarin. We can't understand what they're saying or what
they're talking about unless we talk their language. We need
(02:52):
to incalcate this in some people. If you're going to
be an ambassador in China, you should know the language.
Speaker 2 (03:00):
Well, my Mandarin is not very good. I speak it
through my wife. But General Spalding is fluent, and he
is really critical to the defense of America because he's
been talking about China for as long as I can remember.
So this is really important. And yes, what we've got
right now is a very arrogant China that thinks that
(03:21):
should rule the world. But it's also one which realizes
that there are some real failings in China, and I'm
worried that they may decide that now is the time
to try to realize historic ambition. So this is going
to be a consequential period for us. You know, people
worry about China ten years twenty years from now. I
worry about China in the here and now because this
(03:43):
is the time when they might actually act and surprise us.
Speaker 1 (03:47):
And their ambition is that they're going to become the
center of the world. They have a divine right as
they to do as they wish, but they have one
problem with that. They do magnify every major read a
little problem, don't they That's their one problem. But they
feel like they have a divine right to rule the world,
and they go back and they have a mandate from
(04:08):
heaven to rule.
Speaker 2 (04:10):
Yes, that's absolutely right. Sijmping, the Chinese ruler, has been
talking about this mandate of heaven notion, dropping hints for
more than a decade, but recently his references have become unmistakable,
and so have those of his officials. And he's actually
acting like a divine right emperor. So we've got to
be concerned that he believes he can do whatever he wants.
Speaker 1 (04:33):
Well, they've been taking down pictures of Jesus and other
religious icons and figures and putting out pictures of Jik
jingping and also pictures of mouse they tongue, So they
are considering, they're considering themselves to be demigods.
Speaker 2 (04:52):
Yes, well, you're referring to what they're doing in Christian churches,
which are increasingly fewer and fewer. And what's happened is
Christians are now praying in what's called house congregations, which
are illegal, but people do it because then they have
the freedom to pray as they want, not as the
Communist Party demands.
Speaker 1 (05:11):
Now what they have in the US. They have Confucius
centers in the colleges. You've got people like Harvard professor
or Lieber who had the Chemistry department being paid fifty
thousand a month by China. You've got three hundred and
seventy thousand students in the US in colleges and universities
who are Chinese. All are required to spy if demanded.
(05:34):
Is this true, mister Chang, that they're all required to
spy as demanded.
Speaker 2 (05:41):
Yes. Articles seven and fourteen of China's National Intelligence Law
of twenty seventeen require every Chinese national and every Chinese
company to spy if demanded. Which is not to say
that every student in the United.
Speaker 1 (05:55):
State rights spy.
Speaker 2 (05:56):
But it's estimated that somewhere around thirteen percent are engaging
in activities which are inconsistent with their status as students.
In other words, they're spying for Beijing.
Speaker 1 (06:06):
We're too open and too free a society makes us
very vulnerable and they know it. They go for our weakness,
and we had to reduce consulate staffs because they had
too many people there. We have to reduce or eliminate students,
and we'd rather train the Uscia China diplomats and Mandarin.
I think those are three things that need to be done.
Speaker 2 (06:30):
The other thing that I would do is cut all trade,
cut all investment, cut all technology sharing agreements, close all
the Chinese consulates, and reduce the embassy in Washington to
just the ambassador and his personal staff and family. And
the reason is China uses all contacts to undermine our society,
and we have not been able to deal with China
(06:50):
with less, less drastic measures. So unfortunately, I think we're
going to have to go full Bote and actually get
these guys out of our country.
Speaker 1 (06:59):
Can we really cut off all trade with China?
Speaker 2 (07:02):
We can if we make a political decision to do so.
And I know that it sounds unrealistic. We are decoupling.
President Trump has started that process. And also it's happening
because of business reasons as well, but we need to
accelerate that with the political decisions made by the President
(07:23):
of the United States, who can use his emergency economic
powers to cut much of this trade.
Speaker 1 (07:29):
This would not happen under a President Biden.
Speaker 2 (07:32):
It certainly is not going to Biden has the view
that we've got to cooperate with China, that if we
strengthen the Communist Party, it will become benign. Well, we
have seen that that theory over the course of five
decades doesn't work. But nonetheless, the Biden team comes in
with that view. I think China will disabuse Biden and
his officials, and but it's going to take a little
(07:55):
bit of time and we're going to lose ground. While
you know, Biden clings to an outdated ideology, it was the.
Speaker 1 (08:01):
Same theory that Nixon had opened the open the doors
to China. Now, a couple of things that we have.
They've got some problems. They've got the COVID nineteen, they've
got roving blackouts where they haven't got electricity. Their shortages
are akin to North Korea, and they've also got some
major environmental problems. My wife when she was over in
(08:22):
China said that some of the cities are just almost
unlivable because of all the pollution. So this is a
major problems that they have going and they don't seem
to be doing too much about it. Because if you're
a citizen journalist over there, you're in d real serious trouble.
They've had some major things. They arrest anybody who's trying
to report the truth out there. You can't even get
(08:43):
the information your articles. One of the few I've read
about the blackouts in China. We're not hearing about that,
are we No, we're not.
Speaker 2 (08:52):
And you know you talked about citizen journalists. They just
sentenced one John John for four years and she reported
on the epidemic in Wuhan at the height of the disease,
which means that she's one of the bravest people on earth.
But you know, she got a four year sentence, But
the way China calculates these things, she's probably not going
(09:13):
to see the light of day for a decade. And
there are other citizen journalists who we have not heard from. So,
you know, Erska, this is a situation where they have
been a suppressing information with much more rigor and much
more determination than we think.
Speaker 1 (09:29):
The other key that a lot of people don't understand
is China does not fight a one pronged war. They're
not just into a military war. They're fighting on a
number of different levels. They've got five or six levels
in which they're fighting on. We need to be aware
of this. We are definitely in a war with China,
starting with COVID, starting with what's happening in the school system,
(09:50):
starting with their buying officials in the US and buying properties,
intellectual properties. They are going They are all out war
on different levels. We're used to fighting a war militarily.
This is beyond military. It's a range that we've never
been into before.
Speaker 2 (10:11):
Yeah, China is changing the definition of warfare, expanding it.
And as you point out, spreading of the disease is
one way, which has now killed more than three hundred
and thirty five thousand Americans. Right, we don't know how
this disease started, but we know that teaching paying the
Chinese ruler took steps that inevitably led to the spread
of the disease, so he knew what he was doing.
So this was a malicious spread.
Speaker 1 (10:32):
It definitely came out of you Wuhan and I've seen
enough evidence to prove to me from people like doctor
Charles Simone and others that was created in the laboratory.
Now we've also got the fact that they're stealing intellectual property,
and they're stealing all anything that they can technologically, and
we've got companies in the US working with them to
(10:55):
help them, Companies like Apple, companies like Google and some
of them, do we not know what's going on? Are
just a question of greed. I know it's a big market,
but you said even India is getting to be as
large population wise as China. India is somebody we all
to be really courting because they're supposedly on our side.
Speaker 2 (11:16):
Yeah, and you're absolutely right about that. India is one
of our quad partners. The others are Japan and Australia.
We share values with India. You know, we have a
lot of disagreements with India, but at least two democratic
societies we can get along. We cannot get along with China.
Unfortunately it's not us, it's them.
Speaker 1 (11:36):
Now, you say that China has pretty well taken over
in many respects Australia.
Speaker 2 (11:42):
Well, certainly the economy, but China has pressed Australia much
too hard, and there have been really serious disagreements this
year where you see now the Australian political class and
indeed ordinary Australians are now rebelling against China's attempt to
dominatempletely Australian society. Remember it's Australia was the first country
(12:04):
to press for an independent investigation of the origin of
the coronavirus, and so Beijing has punished Canberra this year
and Australians just don't like it.
Speaker 1 (12:14):
So what is going to be the outcome of this?
Are we going to be having a much more rational
approach with China? It seems like the President Trump has
done this. He understands what's going on. He's the first
president in our history that I've seen who really understood
China to a degree. He actually is looking at from
(12:35):
an intelligent viewpoint, and he understands. I think the art
of war. This is what they're following, is the art
of war. It's very simple. It's all there in writing.
It's just like, if you want to understand President Trump,
you read the Art of the Deal.
Speaker 2 (12:48):
Yes, the two Chinese Air Force colonels in nineteen ninety
nine wrote a book with the title Unrestricted Warfare, and
that's what's going on right now, with disease and with
either way. China is trying to overthrow the US government
and we Americans just oblivious. We were oblivious about al Qaeda.
We were a radious about Japan, and you know, periodically
(13:13):
these incidents, you know, our adversaries come and they kill Americans,
and unfortunately China has more power than al Qaida ever had.
Speaker 1 (13:22):
This is very close to al Qaeda, same type of thing.
We're very open, society, very open. This is same type
of thing. We've got about five more minutes with Gordon Chang,
and I want to tell you his Twitter is Gordon g.
Chang at Twitter and his website is Gordon Chang dot com.
It's all off at Hurskinradio dot com. So just go
(13:44):
up there. All of this is there, plus this interview
will be archive twenty four to seven Erskine Radio dot
com and Freedommail dot US. As Americans seek a stable
economic direction during the health crisis, many are predicting the
rise and precious metals Bank of America is predicting gold
to nearly double to three thousand dollars. This will followed
(14:05):
up by Citibanks called for two thousand dollars gold this year.
Gold is often the most sought after investment during times
of economic uncertainty. Nearly forty million jobs lost. I'd say
these are uncertain as times can get. President Trump as
team are fighting an uphill battle. But America will recover,
no doubt have her. In two thousand and nine, it
(14:27):
took many investors seven years to get back their gains
they lost during the Great Recession. Is your portfolio diversified

com Patriot Gold Group. We're speaking with Gordon Chang, and
I feel honored to speak with him. He is so
intelligent on these issues. The thing that's really scary to
(15:56):
a lot of us is how deep the tentacles of
ch is our into our Senate and our House of Representatives.
When you've got people like Slowell who are just basically controlled,
You've got people like Diane Feinstein, who chauffeur for many
years was a Chinese spy. Uh, and you've got people
(16:17):
on like the Intelligence Committee. Now you if you've got
a spy on the Intelligence Committee, or somebody sleeping with
a spy a honey pot like Slollwell was, then you
are in real danger. You have no secrets. Are we
going to have to require anybody running for Congress have
(16:37):
an FBI background check? I think it is almost time
where we almost have to do that. We can't have
spies running for Congress, and we have had it obviously.
Speaker 2 (16:48):
Yeah, Swallowell is really disappointing. You know, it is no
sin being targeted by China's Ministry of State Security, right,
That's true of every single member of Congress, every single
member of the Senate, that everybody who's ever stepped foot
in the White House. But the point is Swallow's reaction
to this. He was told around twenty fifteen by the
FBI that Christine Fong was suspected to be a Ministry
(17:12):
of State Security agent. Swawell didn't talk about China though.
I mean all he did after that was go Russia, Russia, Russia.
And as a member of the House NFL Committee, he
knew that China was the far graver threat. And by
the way, you know, you remember you mentioned the honeypop thing.
Swalwell has been not forthcoming. He has not been talking
(17:33):
to the American people about his personal relationship with Christine Fong.
We don't know what it is, but what is really
troubling is that he's not willing to talk about it,
which means there's probably something there that we need to know.
Speaker 1 (17:46):
There is something there. I think he got in bed
with the enemy. Literally.
Speaker 2 (17:52):
Well, certainly he needs he needs to talk to the
American people, not just just not just an Nancy Pelosi
Speaker of the House, not just to the FBI. He
owes an explanation to us about his personal relationship, I
want to hear it. If he doesn't want to talk
about it, that to me is a warning signal that
(18:13):
there is more there that we need to investigate. And
you know, as I said, being a target not a
bad thing, because that's everybody. But it's the reaction to this,
and that is where a swallowealth I think fails the test.
Speaker 1 (18:26):
If you lie about it about being a target, that's worse.
That's much worse. I think that somebody like that needs
to go. But I do think we need to have
more more interest. We need to be looking at people
before they run for Congress. We need to do background
checks on them. I know that sounds a little weird
to some people, but I think we need to know
(18:47):
where their loyalties lie.
Speaker 2 (18:50):
Well, we certainly do, and we certainly need background checks
on interns because Christine Fong apparently placed an intern into
Swallwell's office. Now interns now don't get background checks, and
you know it's unfortunate, but I think we're going to
have to do this because China's attempts to penetrate our
(19:10):
political system are comprehensive from the top to the bottom,
and that means interns need background checks.
Speaker 1 (19:18):
The next thing we need to be watching very very closely.
I think you'll agree with me, Gordon Chang, is we
need to be watching our Internet. We've got to have
better internet security otherwise we're going to have so many breakands.
It isn't funny. We're starting to see it more and
more right now. But I don't think people realize how
connected we are to the Internet and to all things
(19:40):
dealing with the web. That is so easy for a
lot of people to hack into. They can destroy our
entire banking.
Speaker 2 (19:47):
System, yes, and our grid and everything else because it's
all connected, and it'll be even more so with five
G fifth generation of wireless communications.
Speaker 1 (19:57):
You're absolutely right, which is coming out of China, right,
Gordon Chang, thank you for all you've done, Thank you
for the warning you've given us. We need to heed
your warning. Go up to Gordon g. Chang at Twitter
