We got ourselves a fun episode foryou all. We've got special guests Michael
Felder from in the Bleachers also aTV host on stadium dot Com at watch
stadium dot com. So we're gonnatalk week four recap kind of basically the
first quarter slash third of the Coastfootball season. We're gonna dive into what

(00:27):
it means, who's real, who'snot, who's fake, all of that
and what each conference looks like andthe players to keep your eyes out for
it. So thank got for pullingup to Unfair Sports. We take a
pensive approach to these sports conversation.I'm your host, Jay, and thanks
for watching a turn on YouTube channelas well as listening wherever podcasts are downloaded
and listen to while you're here.Go ahead and like subscribe, rate review,

(00:50):
give us five stars and to youdeserve it. Let's give us five
anyway and a gifted. So let'sdive right into the conversation with our guy
Felder. What's good, everybody'sh yourboy ja here with Unfair Sports. I
got a special guest with me today. We're gonna talk college football. It's
the first quarter. We are nowat week five, So four weeks in.

(01:14):
This is the opportunity to us forus to actually figure out who these
teams are. If I've always toldyou I'll before here on the show.
I do not like polls before weekfour because we don't know who these teams
are. Too many new players comingin all that jazz. So I got
Michael Felder here in the bleachers, one of the best newsletters out there.
Michael, tell the people where theycan find you and introduce yourself to my

(01:36):
people. Yeah, what's up,folks, I'm Michael Felder. I played
football at UNC, or practice alot of football at UNC, and you
can find me at It's Felder dotsubs dot dot com. I'm on Stadium
as well if you have Stadium,if you have Samsung Quats, if you
have a Samsung Smart TV, youprobably have Samsung Quats. It's also available

(01:56):
OTA over the year and you canfind it also on the Man on Stadium.
But I do a show called InsideFootball with Joshua Perry, former Ohio
State linebacker. We it's really funbecause I get to talk about football like
not with a host, but withlike a football player. So it's very
cool. The conversations that we getinto and it's very fun. Like I
have a really good time talking footballwith him because he's so like everything that

(02:20):
he does is it's we're kind ofon the same Page's very it's it's it's
you know what it's like. Youknow what it's like. It's like cooking
with my mom. Like it islike, yeah, yeah, like cooking
with like me and my mom. When we cook together, it's like a
it's like a choreograph like movement inthe kitchen. And it's the same thing
with Joshua Perry when we get achance to talk about football because we both

(02:43):
we set each other up and thenwe knock him down. Yeah. No,
that that's and that's the best. That's the best way to describe it
is cooking with mom. Are dancingsalso with someone you're they're teaching you how
to move and how to do emotionsand everything. That is one of the
Yeah, that is that's so spoton. All right, let's dive into
some ball here, all right, because Michael always dropped a newsletter every week

(03:06):
with his nuggets and everything, andI'm looking at the first quarter of football.
Let's talk about this what jumped outto you so far? Because I'm
looking at the latest rankings that camedown. You've got Georgia, You of
course got Texas, You've got Michigan. Obama's fallen off a cliff. I
guess you could say, what hasjumped out to you about these teams that

(03:27):
are showing up in the top tenof college football? Who's your favorite two?
Here's here's my favorite two, Washingtonand Penn State. Oh good picks
Washington and Penn State. And here'swhat we're gonna do. I because here's
the thing. I'm gonna Georgia. We still don't know who they are,
right like, we don't what arethey? What are they? Because I'll
tell you what. When Brock Vandergripgets in the game, they look like

(03:47):
a completely different football team. Nowhe hasn't been in the game much,
but when he does get in thegame, they looked like a different football
team. Number two. For me, it looked like I'm just gonna go
in number order Michigan. We didcollege Sports Now and myself and Alex Kirshner
and Stephen Hartsall, we were likeRutgers going roun with these boys. We

(04:10):
said it, we said it,It's on the show. Go check out
college sports now from Friday, wesaid, I said, this is a
thirty five to forty minute it willbe a one score game. And that's
exactly what it was. Because Michiganrefuses to stress themselves. If you want
to beat Georgia, if you wantto beat Ohio State, and I know
they beat Ohio State the last twoyears, but if you want to beat
Florida State, if you want tobeat Penn State, you want to beat

(04:32):
Washington, you need to start throwingthe ball down the field. Jji McCarthy
didn't throw the ball past twenty yardsin that football game. You can't win
that way. So we're at Michigan, we we're at Texas now. We
called the we talked Heart's I calledthe Wyoming game too, And I don't
think that Wyoming game was a blister. I think that Wyoming game was.
Oh if you make it hard forthem, they don't know what they're gonna

(04:55):
do, and that's the reality. And then obviously they go out, they
take care of business, get sailor. When you look at Ohio State,
Ohio State, in the words ofwhat in the words of the kids,
quarterback situation is mid they feel likeit right, like you got Marvin Harrison
junior. You got in Bucca, you got like you got Kate. I

(05:17):
love Kate Stover. I think KateStover might be the most underrated player in
college football. And it takes youthis long to get going. Come on,
dude, let's go. Florida State. Up and down, up and
down, up and down, upand down. Survive. They beat a
Clemson team. Obviously Clemson's is noteven in the top twenty five anymore,

(05:38):
but they took care of business againstthem on the roads, and you have
to give them credit for that.Penn State again, Penn State. I
think Penn State's very happy with wherethey are. They have two teams in
their own division that are ranked aheadof them, but I think they still
might be the best team in thatdivision. They know who they are.
Yeah, that is that crazy tosay? No, No, it's not
crazy because for me, it's andyou're right, Michigan and O House to

(06:00):
be ahead of them, and that'smainly because we've seen what Michigan House they's
done year over year. Pin Statehas always fallen short only when they reach
those two teams. Like like,James Franklin is not a bad coach.
He is consistent in getting them nineten wins, almost eleven if he doesn't
face Ohio State or Michigan. Butthat's the only team they gonna get past.
Once they get over that hump,I think I'll be more of a
believer, but I have to it'sone. I'm the type of person that

(06:24):
I have to see it first beforeI can truly believe that it is real.
And once they got beat one ofthem, then I'm I'm all head
gloves are off. Hey, youguys probably are going to be much better
than I expect. Dude, you'renot my family's from I got family from
Missouri, so like to show mesay, I do need to see it
as well. But when I watchedthis team, this pinn State team play,
the only thing I'm waiting for isto find out who they need.

(06:46):
They need a wide receiver, theyneed a dog, they need an Alan
Robinson, they need they need likea guy that can go down and make
plays, and they don't have that. And that's the part that I'm worried
about watching Watchington. Washington is numberseven right now, they should be number
one in the country. Nobody haslooked better than Washington. That team gets
the job done. I know theygot one vote from somebody, I don't

(07:10):
know who. The one person votedfor them to be number one in the
country. Michael Pinnox Junior is anabsolute dog. They got two guys on
the edge of the three guys onthe edge of the wide receiver spot.
And by the way, don't sleepon that tight end room either, because
those guys all make players. Sowe're we're at seven USC yep. I
let me you know, I letme flip this on you. Are you
impressed by USC? So? Okay? It's kind of tough for me to

(07:32):
talk about this as an Oklahoma fan, and people will take what I say
as being a hater regardless. Butno, their defense is questionable steel because
who's their defensive coordinator Alex greench wean Oklahoma French center. No, no,
not questionable. The defense is bad. Okay? Well, all right,
So see y'all heard from somebody else. Y'll heard from a national guy.

(07:54):
Y'all didn't hear it from me?The Sooner homer is a lot of
people like to say I am becauseeverything that I've seen out of them,
Arizona State scored twenty eight points onthem in Oklahoma State beat them and helped
him to fifteen points. Like that'snot good, and Oklahoma State is bad.
They're bad. They're like really likethe definition of being down bad.

(08:18):
Yes, And now this week nextweek against Colorado, it's gonna be fascinating
to see if they can actually stopbecause the difference we'll talk about them a
little bit later between Oregon YEA andUSC, we know what that is.
But for me, USC's defense hasalways been questionable. Lincoln rod is gonna
give you a great offense, butthe thing that always holds him up has
been his defense. And so yeah, I don't I think their defense isn't

(08:39):
very good either. No, they'rebad. They're bad. They're a bad
defense, and it's really rough towatch them like go out there and like
be in a game with Arizona State, who we know is also bad,
and watch them be like, Iguess what, I guess we're gonna give
We're gonna give up. They gaveup like a million yards that little running
back, Like what are we doing? So it's crazy to me. And

(09:00):
you throw in Oregon Organs at nine. So the Pac twelve's got three teams
in the top ten. Organs atnine and organ I think four Utah,
four, four Washington usc in Utah, Yeah, yep. Four, So
Oregon I think is good. Theirdefense. I was waiting to see what
their defense looked like, and theirdefense looked very good against Colorado. That

(09:20):
was I thought that was a reallygood performance. And then you throw in
Utah Utah. They're at ten.I'm when are we gonna see game Rising?
Like, that's the biggest question forme, because they're like, the
craziest thing is they're a top tenteam cobbling it together with this two quarterback

(09:41):
system and finding ways to make itwork. But we haven't seen Keithy,
we haven't seen Rising. They're twobest arguably they're two best playing, so
they can be even better than theyare right now. And that's kind of
scary if you think you're in thePAC twelve. Actually quite terrifying if you
think about it. Yeah, Andit's funny because those last four are PAC

(10:03):
twelve teams. Of course, forthe most part, we don't respect PAC
twelve teams because the PAC twelve doesn'texist anymore. This is the last year
of his inneration because they're gone, and that leads us into the conference realignment
conversation. But for the most part. The Pac twelve, probably the Pack
twelve does have the best out ofquarterbacks in college football right now, yet
top to bottom, no conference isbetter. It's beautiful, Like you make

(10:24):
some pinnocks. I'm a huge fanof panicks. I mean, transferred from
Indiana, going to Washington, finallygetting a coach and knows how to use
them, and then you just putup Heisman numbers. And he's doing it
two years in a row. It'samazing. It's so good. It's so
good to see and he's just youcan see he's got wide receivers around them,
and they want to push the paceand they want to push them all
down the field, and they're like, like watching him, I've got like,

(10:48):
I wrote down so many notes fromthat ball game because the play calling,
the play design is so cool.To see what they're doing creating space.
It reminds me a little bit ofBobby Petrino, where it's there's levels
to everything that he's doing, andso he makes defenders have to make a
choice where hey, if I'm theif I'm supposed to be in the intermediate

(11:09):
as a defender, there's a guythat's really kind of tailing me he's at
sixteen. Should I be pushing backto him? But there's also a guy
at nine, and should I becoming up to I don't know what I'm
supposed to do. And what's myguy back here doing because there's another guy
coming over and is he carrying him? Because if he carries so basically,

(11:30):
if Pennax rolls out to his leftside and you've got a guy at nine,
you got a guy at eleven ora guy at sixteen, and then
the guy from the front side, the side he's rolling to is running that
post back there. That safety isgetting taken away, and now this intermediate
guy has to make a choice, and whatever choice he makes, he's wrong
because if he chooses to drop deep, you hit the short guy and then

(11:52):
the guy that's running deep can blockhim, and now we have an opportunity
to make a big play. Orif you drop, you go, you
run on that short guy. Nowhe puts the all over your head and
all of a sudden, the guythat was supposed to be there is running
with that post. Now we gotanother big play. It's unbelievable. And
the way that Pennick's able to locatethe ball in the sideline I have found
to be tremendous his ability to keepguys in bounds. I think sand is

(12:13):
also very good at this. Yeah, keeping guys in bounds, but also
making sure the ball cannot be intercepted. Yeah, that's that's the thing.
Nothing has impressed me with Shaldur.Let's move on into Colorado real quick,
because coming in my prediction for Coloradoback in like February, I said they'll
go six and six. Figured theystart three and oh, they'd upset TCU

(12:33):
because they's gonna be prepared for thefact that Colorado has a quarterback. Shudor
is a legit quarterback, but Coloradohas a lot of holes they have to
feel and by this, as aseason goes on, attrition's gonna kick their
tail. And it's starting to dothat now losing Travis Hunter, the offensive
line isn't very good good at all. But at the same time, it's

(12:56):
because they brought up sixty players. But they can ball, They hustle,
they work hard, and unfortunately heartworkdoes not get you to the end every
time. Sometimes it requires talent too. And so he Prime is doing something
that has had me shocking in theworld. And I understand that people are
pissed off that we're talking about him. But this is a story that this

(13:16):
is the best most compelling story incollege football, Like who else has done
this? So here, here's here'swhere I am. I'm actually I'm in
the middle of writing four hard downsfor this week, okay, and I'm
really super conflicted because one, Idid not think that they were going to
be this good, this fast.I also recognized the holes. I got
a chance to talk to shahanjar Raja, who covers Texas football for a relieve

(13:41):
CBS Sports, and he was like, they're very small. Like I just
saw them practice when they were Isaw there like walk through when they were
playing TCU, and like, they'revery small. They're a small team.
And like and then I here's thething, here's here's here's my pat You're
you're a black man. I'm ablack man. Here's the thing. I
don't want to put this dude down. I don't want it. I hate

(14:03):
I hate every person that's like,he's too loud, he's too noisy,
he's too boisterous, he's too outin front, blah blah blah. I
don't want anyone to lump me inthere within my critique of Dion is purely
rooted in is this sustainable with respectof bringing in seventy eighty guys from the
transfer portal, It isn't sustainable froman offensive and defensive line standpoint. That's

(14:28):
where they are weak offensive and defensiveline. When I watched this team play,
I've watched that game. I watchedthat organ game twice, and that
three times, I guess because Iwatched it live. Then I watched it
two more times on Sunday. Yep, it Sunday, Monday. Yeah,
guy, I couldn't remember what daytoday is. Monday. Yes, I
watched it such two times Sunday.Good grief. My mind is like,

(14:50):
but like, literally up front, they don't have a lot to offer.
They don't have and I love whatthey're trying to do. They're trying to
kind of take a page out ofTCUs playbook, which is, let's slant,
let's stunt, let's bring pressure, let's figure out a way to be
disruptive so that we help our secondaryout, especially with our best player in
the secondary not playing. I thinkShilo is a maze. I think he's

(15:13):
a really good football player. LikeShader gets all the credit and all the
headlines. He plays quarterback. He'sthe beauty position, right, this guy's
gonna win the beauty paget. Butman, Shilo does some dirty work for
this football team. This guy,he's your he's the wolf like for this
team like he is he's Harvey Keiteland pulp fiction. He shows up,
he'll scrape the brains off the backof the thing, and he'll get it

(15:35):
all set up so that you cango like. I love that about Shilo.
He is such a good football player. I remember he's played way more
football than just about anybody else onthis roster, and nobody gives him credit
for that. This guy's experience,So I love that about him. But
again, I don't want to belumped into when I critique Colorado with the
people that are rooting for Dion tofail, because that's not me. I

(15:58):
want this guy to succeed. Iwant them to be successful. I want
to see someone who looks like me, someone who looks like you. I
want to see someone that looks likeus, someone who looks like I'll be
honest, someone who looks like myteammates that don't get the opportunity like I've
got teammates a ton of guys thatplayed football with the UNC they're still running
backs coaches, there's still wide receiverscoaches, special teams coordinators, they're still

(16:22):
dB coaches. They don't get achance to be a coordinator, let alone
a head coach. And so adondoes it. Hopefully that puts it in
the right spot the same reason Ilove Mike Tom like, put it out
there until the eighth there, putit out there to the universe and then
let's go. And so yeah,I just don't want to be lumped in
with these people that are rooting forhim to fail when the reality for me,
here's and here's something we haven't eventalked about. Colorado has hired three

(16:45):
black head coaches in a erup threeblack not no, not was it in
a row because I know Mike McIntyrewas in there too. You got Mail
Tucker, Carl Durrill and now DeonDeon oh and yes and then in between
her but yeah, yes, sothe drill was fired mid seasons. So
yeah, but it's it's like they'rethey're making a choice, they're making a

(17:08):
decision, and I think that's verylike and again that's why I relate it
back to the Pittsburgh Steelers. They'remaking a choice, they're making a decision,
they're doing They're being intentional. Andfor listen, I don't mean to
go all you know this, butmy twenty twenty three for me was about
being intentional with my words and intentionalwith my actions. And I can see
that with Colorado, and I amrooting for this to succeed. I wanted

(17:29):
to succeed. The questions that Ihave are solely rooted in football. It's
not me hoping for their failure,Like I want them to succeed. I
want every team to succeed, butI want them to succeed a little bit
more because there's there's a guy likethat's an example from my kid, that's
an example for your kids. That'san example for a lot of folks.
And I think it's I think thatdoes matter. I think it is important.

(17:49):
I need. The big thing forme for Colorado too, is a
Colorado's historical I mean, I'm inBig twelve country, so this is something
that I'm used to Colorado being adecent or competing. I remember in the
eighties win, you know, earlynineties, win a national championship. Always
a team, right, Cordell.I mean the Hail Mary. That was
just that's a historical play. Therewere so many things about Colorado they should

(18:11):
have been more, and we justit's they've they fall on the face of
the earth the minute they left theBig twelve and so well, they had
that one year where they almost Ithink they wanted up went to the Pac
twelve Championship game, but besides that, they just fallen off the world.
My my defensive back coach, DaleHunt Sucker, he called us in.

(18:32):
He said, hey, man,I need you guys tomorrow. I need
you guys to come in thirty minutesearly. And he showed us a Colorado
teach tape of cover two and coverfour from the early nineties that had like
Deon figures in it. And we'resitting in his science he was a science
teacher. We're sitting in his classroom. There's eight of us right, the

(18:52):
dB room is in there, andwe're watching Deon figures and the rest of
that secondary play cover two and coverfour because we were that was our install
and he wanted us to understand youhave to be ready to like, as
a safety, you got to beready to snap this guy's neck and as
a corner, you have to reroutethis guy so that the safety can get
to the point where he can destroyhim. And it was one of those

(19:14):
things where it was like like that'swhat like, that's what color has always
has always been to me is that. And I think they're in a rough
spot because and I don't know,like I'm frustrated because one, I want
high school kids to go play collegefootball. I don't want high school kids
to wait until they transfer it toget to play colleghoob. I want the
high school can just get recruited andgo play college football. The other thing,

(19:34):
though, Colorado is in a roughspot because fundamentally, from a university
philosophy, they align with cal theyalign with Stanford, they align with UCLA,
they align with with those schools. But they weren't able to go and
get those kids from California that theythought they were going to get access to

(19:56):
because what's happened in the world ofcollege football is everybody has access to everybody
now there isn't there is no reasonthat a kid from Florida should want to
go to Oregon, but they dowant to go to USC Sure kids Trump,
I mean, listen, I knowhe's back at Oregon State now and
they had a rough game there. They came back, but they couldn't finish

(20:18):
the job. But Oregon State.DJ Young delays from California and he ends
up at Clipson. Bryce Young isfrom California and he ends up at Alabama
and like the world is so wideopen. It's still a regional game,
but the world in terms of recruiting, access to recruits, being able to
see recruits. I'll be honest, the only state to me that's got it

(20:41):
locked up is Louisiana because then everybodystays in state most of the time.
Yeah, then kids, then kidsgrow up loving LSC like of course there's
a land in Collins. And weremember his his his hat day commitment where
his mom was like what are youdoing? But like at the end of
the day, like ls is theonly place that's really got things on lock.

(21:02):
Even Alabama and all Alabama and Mississippiare like back and forth, back
and forth, back and forth.I mean, na, Kobe danis from
Like he's from Mississippi and he's like, nah, I'm going to Georgia.
I was like, no, I'mnot. I'm want to skip Alabama to
go to this one, and soFlorida's got their own problems. I mean
going all the way like it's notall the way back. But C J.
Spiller went to Clemson and like thatwas like a was like mind blowing

(21:26):
to people, Like the idea thatthat a guy from when he's going here,
what Cramson Clemson is getting people? And then all of a sudden you
saw a difference. It's just whyit's wild, Like I think that the
sport being opened up and and theother part of that, and and I
don't mean to derail I didn't meanto derail you good, You're good.
The real thing for me here isit's a combination of all the games being

(21:49):
on television now, so you seewhat your options are. More money being
pumped into football than ever, whichwe can tell because of the amount of
commercials that are played during a game. And the other thing though, is
these kids know each other. It'snot it's not to the AAU level,
it's not to AU basketball level. But when you go to a Nike camp,

(22:11):
everybody's got their own cell phone. So if you go to a Nike
if you go to the opening, you go to this camp, you go
to that camp. These kids aretexting each other, right, they all
are instagramming each other, They're tiktokingeach other, and so these guys have
this network that for me coming upas someone that played in college, I
had like it was like Kenny Moore. Kenny Moore played at Wake Forest,

(22:33):
played in the NFL for the Lionsand the Panthers for a little bit.
But it was like Kenny and Ihad like flip phones and we could like
text each other, but like itwas not the same as like Instagram and
like having yeah yeah lives. Itliterally would just be like on a Saturday
morning, it would be like areyou going to are you going to UNC

(22:56):
this morning? After the game?Like we didn't even text during the week
at all, Like I don't mean, I'm not even gonna puport to be
like he's like one of my goodfriends. It was just like are you
going to you and see or wewould We wouldn't even text. It would
just be we both show up atyou and c for an unofficial visit and
he was like, oh, what'sup man? Yeah yah, yeah man,
y'all did y'all play well last night? I saw you on Friday Football?
Blah blah, blah blah blah. Now it's like kids from across the

(23:18):
country are like, hey, man, I'm gonna go I'm going for three
hundred to day. What are yougonna go for? And they're like,
Okay, let's do it, betlet's do this. Let's and it's just
like it's a different world. Andso when you have that connectivity and you
have it's not rivalry anymore. It'smore just like everyone wants to be better.
And I really I appreciate that aboutit, Like I mean, we
we even mentioned bo Nicks at Oregonlike this dude. For him, he

(23:42):
had to he had to get outof Alabama, yep, to go to
go be he he did the oppositeof bright shows, right, he went
to the West Coast instead of stayingin Alabama where he's from. So it's
very interesting. We got two ofTungla Bailoa and Talia. Talia is a
heck of a football player and theybeat the Let me tell you something,
man, my wife she said, can I cuss on this? I want

(24:06):
to cuss, my wife said.My wife said, if this I'm not
watching these guys play sucks. Ifshe went to Michigan, say she just
turned the game off to Leah, gave them the Blues. But this kid
from he's from Hawaii, what's hewhat's he doing at Maryland? He's in
Maryland because Locks was at Alabama? But what is Ta doing at Alabama?

(24:29):
He's from Hawaii's supposed to be atUSC, He's supposed to be at UCLA,
but Nick Saban got in there, got him right, and then he
plays for Locks, Locks goes getsthe head coaching job at Maryland. Locks
is like, hey, to yourbrother, I want him, let's go.
So Taliah could have been at Hawaii. He could have been, He
could have been I don't I don'tknow if he was a USC caliber quarterback

(24:52):
coming out of high school, butcould have been at Boise State. What
about boy, what if Boise Statehad him? Although they do have Taylor
Green, who I really like, but like what if what if Ordergon could
add him? Then bow Nick doesn'tgo there? Or like there's a caw
Caw could have had him. There'sso many variables that comes into play when
it comes because and that actually isa perfect way of wrapping up the let's

(25:12):
talking about realignment and everything, howNash, how worldwide these players? Because
I've always argued, like NBA wisenot to derail myselncle too far. But
I've always talked about how the playersin basketball today are different from the eighties
and nineties because and eighties and ninetieswhen they were kids, seventies, sixties,
seventies, eighties, when they werekids, they only saw each other

(25:33):
when they went drafted. They didn'tsee of an au and stuff. Nowadays,
these kids are teammates on national team. Hell I AMG Academy has a
football team built up some of thenation's top players that are just focused on
football and they're all friends. Imean, Oklahoma, we just got David
Stone, who's from Oklahoma but playsat I AMG to come back home because
he's in Florida today. So yeah, it's crazy how the landscape has changed

(25:57):
in conference realignment has got people allup in arms. I'm just like,
the only thing that bothers me aboutconversation realignment is that the regionalization of teams
do bother me as far as rivalriesgo. And you had a great write
up talking about that. And theone thing I've talked about is that the
good thing about Oklahoma versus Oklahoma State, Oregon versus Oregon State, Washington versus

(26:18):
Washington State, Iowa Iowa State. Is that the people that live in those
states, you're sitting next to someonethat's probably a fan of a rival team,
and so you can jab each otherNonStop. Auburn Alabama, you know,
but like Ohio State Michigan, there'sa gap. There are two different
states, so you don't really seetheir fans interacting until those games. So

(26:38):
it's of course she's good old fashionedhate for them, but for everyone else,
you're gonna lose the opportunity to besitting next to somebody and jab them
whenever. Like if Washington was tolose Washington State, which Cameron mort is
really good, there's a chance Washingtonfans can get jabbed by Washington State fans
in Pullman. It's you're losing thatcomponent of it. But let's move on,

(27:03):
go ahead. I think you're right. I think that the thing for
me that I think about because Ithink Michigan and Ohio State is still a
thing because those two sets they have, like the statewide it's a two states
that hate each other. It's thesame as Noiz like we just don't like
we're like, you know, thesand Lappers people don't even know that that's
what they're called. But the sandLappers they can, they can gtfo okay
like truth seriously, like tar Heelsversus sand Lappers. We play that game

(27:27):
every year. It's called the ShrineBall, and we play each other.
The same thing with with with withwith uh Georgia Florida right like they have
they don't those states, they don't. They don't get down with each other.
And I think even like Georgia andAuburn, and because so many people
don't realize how close Auburn is toGeorgia, they don't realize that, like,
oh, this is a game thatwill be played forever because these two

(27:49):
teams. Like if it's easier fora kid from like Savannah or Columbus to
get to Auburn than it is forthem to get to Athens, like that's
that's an easier trip. Same thingwith that panhandle of Florida. For some
people, it's easier for them toget to Lsu than it is to get
gamesmis true. It's so it's oneof those things that it is. It's

(28:11):
interesting. But the big thing thatfor me is when you bring in a
million transfers like we saw Colorado.Do I wonder what that does to the
rivalry. That's kind of what mymain kind of impetus was, Like,
like Colorado State's got a bunch ofkids from Boulder, from Colorado Springs,
from Fort Collins. Those kids goto school there. Colorado has twenty players

(28:33):
on their roster from the state. It's a roster of one hundred and like
ten twenty of them are from thestate. They got three players from North
Carolina, and I can guarantee youno one in North Carolina grew up being
like I can't wait to watch thisfootball game. So I wonder where the
fire comes from in that, inthat in that rivalry, And I think
that's gonna be the interesting part.Like how do we build with USC going

(28:56):
to the Big ten, Washington goto the Big ten, Like you just
build it all of what, Likeyou just have to win a game.
It's just it's a game. Look, yeah, you get to play in
the Horseshoe or you play at theBig House, or you play you know,
you're playing it in Beaver Stadium. But like the juice, I just
feel like the juice isn't gonna bethe same. And I'm not complaining about
it. I think it is.I think we're gonna we I think we

(29:17):
are going to see better football.Yeah, because you're gonna see changing styles.
And in the words of my guyGeorge Whitfield, styles make fights.
We're gonna see different styles. We'regonna see this West Coast style. Have
to come East coast. We're gonnasee this West Coast style. Have to
come East coast in November. Andnow what are you gonna do? Now,
what are you gonna do? We'realso gonna see this East Coast style,

(29:37):
right, We're gonna see whether it'sRuggers or Maryland or Penn State,
they're gonna have to go all theway to the West coast and they might
have to do a big neon kickoff. You're gonna you're gonna have to do
a big neon kickoff. Is gonnakick somebody's tail? And I don't I
don't know. And here's the thing. I'm sure you've traveled as much like
the same as I. I don'tknow if it's worse going back or going
forward. Yeah, yeah, Ican't figure it out yet. I'm I'm

(30:02):
central and I've gone I've gone westso many times, and so many times
I'm just like, okay, yeah, between that and I don't know which
one is worse. That's the thingthat's funny. You say this because that's
true, because the variable is thegame start time. Because if if the
game, if it's a noon kickin Piscataway, that's probably worse for UCLA
after going on a cross country flight, yep. But if it's a ten

(30:26):
thirty kick in La or in Seattle, and you had to travel that way,
and now that ten thirty kick foryou, it's a seven thirty game
for them, ten thirty for you, and you're like, what are we
doing like this? I shouldn't bedone for the day. Yep. My

(30:48):
body's not built. My body's notready for this. My body thought that
we were going to be relaxing atthis point, resting up. We were
hyped up three hours ago. Yeah, I hype when I woke up at
my normal time and I hope, right, the sun is still up.
What are we doing? Yep?It's gonna be really weird. It's gonna
be weird. It's gonna be weird. It's gonna be fascinating to see how
the schedules align and how they tryto make things to be keep some sort

(31:12):
of a competitive balance. But likeyou mentioned, the beauty is going to
be the styles going to gets toeach other going forward. So let's jump
into this next. I'm looking atthe Big twelve right now. Of course
they're gonna expand we're gonna add Colorady'regonna be add Colorado, Utah, Arizona.
You know that there's gonna be acompletely new look, especially with Oklahoma

(31:33):
and Texas leaves. But Colorado,Arizona, Arizona, State in Utah.
That's the additional four they're adding fornow. They may add more. We'll
see if Oregon and State in WashingtonState gets lucky enough to be pulled into.
But I'm looking at this conference today, but it's it's it's run by
the two Blue Bluffs. That's Iguess you could say ran it since the

(31:55):
inception. What's your thoughts on Texasright now after they after the Bama win
and kind of looking out and playinga whole bunch of backup quarterbacks since,
how do you feel about them today? They're fine, They're fine. Like
if this is the third best teamin the country, I think everybody's just
bad. Like it's fair. Itfeels like everything's opened up, like this

(32:19):
is the first year. I reallyfeel like there's like an open race to
the top because, like you said, George is not proving yet. We
just know Georgia. Georgia. Theydeserve that spot because they've won two titles
in a row. Kind of gottato beat the bandy, you gotta beat
the man. Like I literally,I look at I look at the Baylor
win. That's a good win forthem. Baylor's an okay team. Wyoming
that Wyoming game, let's not forgetthat was a one score game in the

(32:39):
third quarter. Yeah four yeah,So like, don't don't listen, you're
not gonna I'm not a box scorescout, baby, I'm watching these games
like third You can tell me thirtyone to ten all you want, but
guess what I know that that gamewas. It was ten ten, baby,
Let's go and don't don't play me. The Bama game, that's a
that's a good win. But wesaw there's two things and I mean,

(33:02):
keep derailing. But like Alabama Alabama. In two weeks, Nick Saban sent
a message to his team and thatmessage was received and the message was executed
this past week where in the Texasgame, the Texas game was like,
mill Row, you're not good enough, and defense you have to step up.

(33:25):
And then the next week he goes, I'm gonna pull I'm pulling the
plug on mill Row because everybody inthe media, they keep every single one
of you guys. It's tweeting atus and telling him me to play Buckner
or telling me to play Sympton.I'll show you what you get with these
guys. Yep, this is whatyou get within. So maybe we should
put Jaylen in and Jayleen, youneed to be better because we can't win

(33:46):
without you. And then we seethem go out there and that's what they
do. They win with him,and they run the ball a million times
and the defense is better and sothey've learned their lesson. And I think
this is a team that Nick Sabanabsolutely loves because he does have to work
and he does have to coach. And Nick Saban's I've read it. I
read it was his first book,How Good Do You Want to Be?

(34:07):
And he just he struck a chordwith me, which is you get you
get to decide, you get topick how good you want to be.
It's true if you if you putthe work in, it'll happen, and
I think he loves this because it'smaking him put the work in. It's
not an autopilot because he doesn't havea bright shong. So going back to
the Big twelve, Texas, tome, they're fine, they are fine.

(34:29):
I am very curious to see.I'm way more interested though, with
respect to the Big to the Bigtwelve, I'm way more interested in Oklahoma,
Kansas and by U. Yeah, and BYU. With that shocking win
in Arkansas in Arkansas that that threwme for Luke because I I had Arkansas

(34:50):
predicted at ten wins this season withtwo losses and it wasn't gonna be PYU
best based upon the way that conferenceis set up, and that shocked me.
And by U, yeah, therethey've become a team. I'm like,
huh, let me pay attention.Because my Sooners do travel out to
Provo. I think I'm tickets andgo to that game because that would be
an intriguing game in November. It'sgonna be a November, so it's don't
be probably cold and wet altitude ontop of that, versus a team that

(35:15):
looks like they're playing some good, disciplined football. And yeah, I of
course, I said, my showis mainly around Oklahoma. This portion of
it is me talking all college football, and I want to talk Oklahoma.
So defensively Oklahoma. Oklahoma is theonly team in college football with a top
five offense and defense and scoring rightnow, which I am honestly perplexed and

(35:38):
shocked that it happened this fast.Because they're coming in. You turn over
eighty two percent of your roster, which no one's really talking about that,
and now it looks like Venables hashis head and plays on defense. That's
crazy, it's it's it's unbelievable.Seventeen is what the most. That's that

(35:59):
was the holds of game. Butthey continue to roll. This is a
team that they do look like they'regetting it. You know what it looks
like to me, it looks likethese guys are worried about getting taken off
the field, which it didn't seemlike a year ago. It looks like
they're And that's to me, everybody, I don't Venables doesn't have a defensive
style. To me, he's We'veseen him go three down, we've seen

(36:20):
him go four down, We've seenhim play over, we've seen him play
underfronts. We've seen all those thingsfrom He's done everything. He does what
it works with his pieces. Butthe one thing very adaptive. But the
one thing to me that has alwaysstood out about Vinibles is he will take
your ass out the game. Yep, he will take you out of the
game. And this is so whenyou say discipline and you say guys are

(36:43):
getting lined up and all those things, that's because he knows he can take
them out the game. I'm readyto take this guy out the game.
He won a national championship at Clemson. He won it for them. I
listen, I'm not gonna go devil. Don't need no credit. I'm Vinables
won a national championship game for Clemsonby taking out three starters and putting in
backups, one of whom is NolanTurner. And they were and he got

(37:07):
an interception and he was like, listen, I don't care if you don't
do what I'm telling you to do, You're not gonna stay in the game.
And now I think that's that's theenergy. When I watch Oklahoma play
on defense and I listen offensively.I love Dylan Gabriel, and I think
they're figuring it out we're gonna We'regonna see how far this goes. As
they've started to play a little bitbetter defenses. But the key for me

(37:29):
is that defense. They get linedup, they communicate, they talk,
they point, they're pointing things out, and it's to me, this is
a defense that recognizes, hey, man, if I don't do my job,
coach is gonna put me on thebitch Yep. Yeah, that's the
crazy part. That's why it's supposedto be. I didn't think about it

(37:49):
that way, but you're right. That is something that Brinnibals forces you to
have a sense of urgency when youplay in his defense because, like you
just say it, if you're notperform, there gonna get And he shanked
some people here so far, likewe've seen players not show up. It's
like, wait, I thought hewas more Oh and then next thing you
know, that position has gone forthe rest of the season because this player

(38:13):
is doing as needed. And soyeah, that's the one thing that has
jumped out the most to me aboutOklahoma, and I talk about it at
nauseum to my people. That's theyreally look like they care on defense.
Like the defense said, we wantto be the reason why we win,
we don't want the offense after wedon't have to want to go on the
offense, which has been the traditionof Oklahoma since the end of the Bob

(38:36):
Stoops era. The offense is wejust put it on the back of some
superman quarterback and the next thing youknow, you got two Heisman Trophy win
three high technically three Heisman Trophy winners, one as a former player, and
then you had a guy that gotsecond place in Heisman voting that came from
Alabama. So you build your teamon the backs of guys carrying you all
the time, and the defense doesn'tcontribute like you would like because for whatever

(38:59):
reason schematic plea, it never works. And you're right making him think you
can lose your job if you don'tplay hard. Yeah, defense, defense
is strong backs. Defense is defenseholds you. Defense will keep you tintos
down. Like defense works like welike I say we because I'm a defensive
guy. But like defense, wedon't need the ball to play. We

(39:19):
show up every single day, that'sall. Listen. I don't care if
you like us or not. Ifwe're gonna we're gonna show up. And
I think that's really cool. Towatch the way that that that evolution,
because that's who Vinibles is as acoach. Is he like he He's never
asked for the spotlight. He's he'sand I don't want to. I'm not
pitting him again against each other, him versus out with how the defense is

(39:46):
playing, uh for Colorado. Butat the end of the day, the
thing for me is Vinables has neverasked for the spotlight. He's never He
doesn't even like doing interviews. Hedoesn't like to do press. He's like,
listen, man, all I wantto do is coach football. That's
it. That's all I want todo is coach football. I want to

(40:06):
build these guys into a unit thatworks together. So I just I'm it's
very it's very cool to see.And the other part, to relate it
back to grinch usc, It's possible. It's possible if you care. And
I wrote about this already. I'vesaid this a ton of times. Defense
is about effort and commitment. That'sit. You got to be committed to

(40:31):
learning and knowing what you're supposed todo, and you just got to give
me effort. And the coolest thingabout watching Oklahoma is seeing that they are
now getting they're getting eight, nine, ten, sometimes eleven hats in the
frame. And for folks that arelistening that don't know what that means,
you get eleven players on defense, right, So you want to see eleven

(40:52):
helmets in the frame of film. When somebody's making a tackle, you want
to see eleven. You want tosee everybody run into the football and that,
I'll be honest, man, Shoottwenty eighteen, nineteen, twenty twenty
one. We're looking at like threeguys, and guess what it's really easy
to do. Make one guy miss, one guy's out of position, and

(41:13):
that other guy misses a tackle,and all of a sudden, that's a
touchdown. Gone every time, everytime, gone, just gone, get
gone. God, God that youpointed that out. I love the swarm
tackling that we're seeing, or atleast it the defense is trying to become
sworms. At first. You're seeingthat effort. It's all it is is
that additional one percent effort, andwe're getting it degrees. It costs you.

(41:35):
It costs you nothing to give effort. It costs you nothing to to
to to run full speed. Guesswhat they're if listen, if you're tired.
You know what they'll do. They'llget you out of the game and
you'll come back in as long asyou give effort. If you're gonna make
a mistake, that's fine. Makea mistake fast, don't make a mistakes
slow. And we're seeing them makefast mistakes. Not many mistakes though,

(41:59):
and that's the part where Vinables comesinto play. They're not making very many
mistakes. And I think that's avery as someone who watched a lot of
Oklahoma with Venables and Clemson with Venables, doing your job is paramount. Vinibles
made guys that were they had nobusiness starting at Clemson, yep. But
he made them all ACC guys becauseall they had to do was just do

(42:21):
their job. And that's all youhave to do, just do your job.
Yeah, he taught at his jobs, taught on their job, and
then they get executed on something that'shard to do. So let's dive into
the ACC. You're a conference,you're a people, You're a people.
Right. Florida State is of courseright now at the top. North Carolina
feels like they're moving because Drake May, the Heisman Trophy candidate, one of

(42:44):
the guys I love is a restartfreshman. Dude's a monster. I love
everything about Drake. I just wantto see him be successful. Looks like
they're climbing. Duke is causing problemsMiami. I don't I can't believe it,
But Mario christ the ball might havethis train going in the end.
Of course, Clemson's out for now, but I think Clemson will be back
up in the conversation because they alwaysare. They find a way. Even

(43:07):
though Dabbo doesn't have these elite coordinatorsthat he's had for fifteen years on staff
right now, I mean he hasto. Now he's going through the cycle
of replacing coaches. And so yeah, when you look at the acc top
to bottom, how comfortable, howconfident are you in Florida State coming out
or even North Carolina coming out?So we got what we have. We

(43:28):
have a four and O Duke. We've got a four in Oh Miami,
We've got four an O UNC fourO Florida State. So the thing for
me, honestly, I think FloridaStates for real. We took we worried
about him for a second against BC, then they take care of business against
Clemson on the road. So Ithink Florida States for real. They got

(43:50):
a couple of first place votes aswell. They got more first place votes
than Michigan and Ohio State. That'swild combined. So I think that's gonna
be interesting. I love Jordan Travis. I want him to be healthy.
Somebody was talking to me the otherday. Some some guy got on Twitter.
It was like, Jordan Travis needsto run more. And I was
like, did you not see whenhe almost broke his entire shoulder off,
Like, don't run more? Runless, run less, scrambling fall something

(44:15):
like don't like don't run, like, don't don't just throw the ball away.
Please, don't do this. Iknow it's not your throwing shoulder,
but if your pain is excruciating, don't don't subject yourself to more pain.
I think Duke's interesting with Riley Leonard. Mike Elko is the heck of a
football coach, and Riley Leonard's agreat quarterback. When I was at ACC

(44:36):
media days, I was asking aboutKade, I was asking about Jordan Travis,
ask about Drake May and people keptgoing. Everyone was like, what
about Riley Leonard? What about RyleyLearning? What about Ryley Learning? What
about Ryley Leonard? So it's verycool to see him live up to those
expectations from folks. Very cool forme. Miami, I'm still not a
believer, Honestly, I'm not.I'm not, and it's it's not I

(44:59):
don't know if it the coach orhow long is this Van Dyke bounce back
gonna last? Like I just theydon't have weapons that I really trust all
the way like they're they're they're again, they're Honestly, I think they can
get on the field against Texas andwe would see a football game. Yeah,
but that's not because I think Miamiis super good. It's because I

(45:20):
think that both of these teams arelike they're a little inflated. Like I
think that, I mean, goingdown the ranks. I think Oregon State
would probably put the screws to bothof them. And I know organ State
just lost yep, But I likeI like Oregon State more than I with
the I like Duke more than Ilike Oregon State. But I don't like
Miami more than I like Oregon State. And that's gonna be the interesting part

(45:40):
of how this shakes itself out.By the way we've been talking about kids,
kids is really good. By theway they're good. Yeah, they're
really good. They're they're flying.Yeah, they're they that's a scary football
team, like they are. Lightholdis like, yeah, we're we're not
playing we are coming for your heads. Let's go quick side track on that
when they play Texas this weekend, and I cannot wait to see. I
can't. I will be locked inon the television for that game. Dude.

(46:04):
I've had such a hard time betweenJalen Jaden Taalen two Daniels in agree
and I'm like, which one areyou? You're that guy right, I
don't know, Like you're look, you get going in the floor of a
conversation when you're doing a radio spot, and then all of a sudden they're
like and you're like, oh yeahkids, and they got Jalen d is

(46:27):
it Jayden Jalen Jalen Yes, yes, okay, yeah, pim that that's
the same kid. Daniels Dan theDaniels kid is good. So it's been
very interesting, but I'm excited forthem. As far as the ACCY goes,
though, Clemson, I mean, the Florida State got over the hump
already, which is good for thembecause if that game would have come later,

(46:50):
maybe Clemson figures themselves out, yep. But Florida State also they avoid
this Notre Dame game, so theydon't have to play Notre Dame this year.
They do play Duke. That's shouldbe a that could be when they
when they played it could be atop fifteen matchup. And then they've got
Wake. Wake is not hitting onit. They just lost to Georgia Tech.
Pitt just got what by you andsee you and see and Drake may

(47:10):
you and see the most interesting partfor me is the defense has started to
show up, which we I wasn'texpecting at all. So that's been good
as a defense again. Yeah,it's it's weird. It's weird, like
it's Jane Chessick has a defense again. If we've got Cheesygains, it's,
oh my god, Jesu Chesick ishis decordinator. Yeah, and then they
play Florida and I don't think Florida'svery good. So we'll see what that

(47:34):
looks like. Like they're like therethat are they? Are they good?
Is Florida good? I don't know. I don't know. I know that
Graham Murtz is not good and he'sthe guy for them, So we'll see
what happens. I know they havea really good run game, so we'll
see what happens. But in theACC, I mean, this is what

(47:58):
the last is? This the islike this is the last time, Like
we're gonna I don't know, thisis gonna be interesting because obviously they're gonna
play here in Charlotte and there's nodivisions. So what we're looking at right
now are five teams because I knowNC State is three and one, but
they are one and ozer in theACC. Yep, So there are five

(48:21):
undefeated teams in the league. FloridaState, Louisville, Duke, u n
C, NC State. We alsohave to throw Miami in there because Miami
is a team that hasn't played aleague game yet. So we're looking at
six teams that are undefeated in theleague. You can throw I mean,
listen, I'm not gonna throw VirginiaTecher Syracuse in their Virginia Tech man.
Oof. What a what a dropoff for a team that, like growing

(48:46):
up, was from Grace gold. They were part of the gold standard.
I mean they say built, theybuilt ESPN two when they used to have
the deuce in the little two inthe corner Thursday Night football. VIC Like,
shoot, I'll go all back allthe way. I'll go Jim Drunken
Miller. Yeah, like d theyplayed football. They were good and they

(49:10):
were always good, and they wereI mean they won ten games and ten
games and this is when we hadeleven games schedules. They wont ten in
a row, ten games every year, always going to a bowl game.
So they're in a rough spot. But you have you and C you have
you have so you have. Youstart with Florida State, you have UNC,
you have Ncy State, you haveLouisville Still is gonna be kind of

(49:31):
sneaking around in there with brom becausethey just want to talking about Petrino offense.
That's what they're doing. They're they'rerunning that same offense again, which
is when they've been very good. That's what they do. So you have
them in the mix. You haveMiami in the mix. So we're gonna
see what this looks like going forward, because Clemson's gonna ruin somebody's weekend.

(49:52):
Oh and Dukes in the mix aswell. Clempson iss gonna ruin somebody's weekend,
and it's gonna be it's probably gonnaend up being like towards the the
end of the season, when Clemsonfigures some stuff out and they're desperate and
they want to make sure they canstill try to get to a New Year's
six Bowl or something, and they'vegot un C at the end of the
year before they play South Carolina, they've got Notre Dame in the back half

(50:16):
of the season with in November. If Clemson shows up and be like,
Clemson has an opportunity. We justmentioned what we mentioned, Miami, NC
State, UNC, Yep, Clemsoncould beat the Clemson Clemson already lost the
dude, yep. Oh yeah, they're done. Yeah, that's it.
Yeah, they've already payd them Cfirst. So yeah, yeah, but

(50:37):
they could. But Clemson could beatMiami, North Carolina State, Notre Dame,
and un C in six weeks ina row. Yeah, in a
five week span. They plenty allfive of four the teams. Yeah yeah,
and then South Carolina and they couldruin. They're like, they're you're
like no, what, no,why, And they could do that.

(50:59):
They're good to do that. Soit's gonna be really interesting to see how
that shakes itself out. Yeah,I'm the ACC is a very fascinating because
just like every conference, they're gonnacannibalize each other. But yeah, there
is so many games in here towhere we're trying. We're heavily sleeping on
Clemson and I and I have faith, even though I may not be a

(51:20):
big Diabo fan, I have faiththat he's gonna right the right the ship
by late season when it matters themost. That seems to be when he
gets done. Kind of leads meright into the SEC. And I talk
about LSU and the way that BrianKelly does things. All his teams always
sleep walking the first couple of gamesand all of a sudden they rattle it
off and go that's a Brian Kellytradition going all the way back to Cincinnati.

(51:42):
And you look at the secing besidesGeorgia being of course the monster at
the top because of just you know, they get that they carry over because
of two titles, it doesn't feellike anybody in the conference has really got
a stronghold on winning it or evenbeating Georgia if we go that far.

(52:04):
I'm still high on LSU, thoughI think that four game was just a
bad matchup and it was early. It seemed to like I said, messed
things up. But I like JadeDaniel Jayalen Daniels. Again it's another Daniel
Jayleen I liked a lot. Ilike Jaden a lot because he has the
capabilities of carrying the team at certainpoints and make the right decisions. And

(52:28):
so when you look at the SEC, Bama to me, will figure it
out by end of season. They'llwin ten games and we won't be talking
about them. I mean, here, they just handled oh miss at the
number fifteen team in the country. How are you feeling about the SEC?
Who's going to take this conference? Before he wrap things up? All right?
So here's what we got. SoI look at this, I like
to go to the standings and justlike kind of tool around a little bit

(52:51):
because right, again, there's somuch there is so much parody, and
like we're looking at Miszoom Zoos hasn'tplayed an SEC game. They're four no,
but like who cares, Like it'sinteresting to see if they can do
that. Kentucky's only played one SECgame. They're four and oh so we
haven't even talked about these teams.Right, there's there's two four no teams
that no one's ever talked about. There is not a single undefeated team in

(53:14):
the SEC West, which is buckwild. But but LSU and Alabama are
undefeated in the conference yep, andthat sur I know, man good,
I don't know what they're wolf,I don't know what they're doing man buzz
buzz or girlfriend wolf like good, this like it's it's wild. And Tennessee's

(53:38):
own one. But Tennessee is stillnumber twenty one in the country. So
I think the big thing for me, let's go division to division. And
so I love your take on LSU. I think that they are a good
football team, but I am worriedabout what we're gonna get out of them
week over week. And I thoughtwe saw some of those cracks. Was

(53:58):
it this past weekend? Uh?Get uh yeah, it gets exactly.
It gets Arkansas Arkansas team that wejust all lose the BYU Arkansas team.
Honestly, Arkansas should have slammed thedoor and they did not. Arkansas,
Like I say this all the time, I think Arkansas lost that football game
more than LSU won that foot thegame yep. And that's the part that

(54:21):
was interesting to me, Because Arkansas, they knew they needed to get a
win. They tried to rebound. They couldn't do it because they couldn't close
the door, and so they justthey kind of left that gate open and
listen, we left the gate open, the dogs get out the house,
and all of a sudden, yougot a problem. And so LSU survived,
which is good for them though, because that keeps them in the hunt.
So I like that about them. And then Alabama we talked a lot.
We already talked enough about Alabama.Like they're just gonna they're gonna ball

(54:43):
their fist up. What my buddies, Holly and Spencer, they call it
murder ball, and that's what they'regonna do. And they're gonna make They're
gonna make you hurt. Yeah, shout out to shut down fullecast and shout
out to my man at Seahawk. He's a Texas guy, but he was
like he he sent me a himand he said, he said, hey,
man, Alabama, they're not they'renot good, but boy baby,

(55:06):
hitting like they they they hurt youlike this. They they are a handful
of teams in the country. Alabamais one of them. I think Iowa's
one. Utah is won. Likewhen they hit you, you're like,
why why does this hurt, Sowhat are these dudes eating? Like,
why does it hurt so bad whatthey're doing? Like I've been tackled before,

(55:30):
but this tackle feels different. Andso they're gonna continue to do that,
and they're listen, they're gonna playa very I'm not gonna like say
Iowa style, I'm not gonna sayWisconsin style, but they're gonna play We're
gonna run the ball forty five timesthis game, and then every now and
then we're gonna catch you with aplay action pass and he won't be prepared

(55:51):
for it. In Milroe has theability to throw the ball a thousand yards,
So let's go ahead and knock thisout. So Alabama to me,
they're your number two. Albert isanother team, by the way, that
hits very hard, like they Idon't understand, Like that game this past
weekend against A and M. Iwas like, how are these A and
M guys still getting not because likethey're not Albert is not good, but

(56:15):
they will hit you. And Ilove listen. I love a team that
hits, Like listen, if you'regonna go out there and you're gonna drop
someone like a sack of potatoes,I'm in for it, So we got
that oh Miss is maybe to me, in the entire sec, ah missed
the most intriguing team because, withthe exception of Alabama, maybe Georgia,

(56:37):
who's gonna stop him? It's agood question who's gonna stop them? Like
they like they're a team that likethey they let it all hang out,
like they just they're like, what'sthe difference, Like we don't we don't
care. We're just gonna We're gonnago for it on fourth down and we're
gonna keep going and we're gonna keepgoing and Lank Kivin is gonna run a
bunch of stuff like I am.I wouldn say this. Hats off to

(57:00):
Alabama's entire analysts staff for knowing whatoh Miss was gonna do. Most teams
are most teams are gonna have noclue. And then we flip it over
to the East. Tennessee still feelslike they have an opportunity. They still
gotta play Alabama, which is gonnahurt them, and they still gotta play
Georgia, which is gonna hurt them. Florida, what are you, man?

(57:21):
What are you? Because you're notwhat you want to be that's for
sure. They're not what they wantto be, and I don't know how
close they're gonna beat it with thetwenty nine to sixteen like that. Nobody
is happy about that, like outlike just gonna be Florida fans are like,
why this, We might as welllose. This sucks. Solfen sucks.
Is not fun. I don't wantthis. I want to score fifty

(57:44):
five points in game. This isa horrible. Yep, Kentucky. I'm
excited for Devin Learry. I lovehim. Missoo obviously we're gonna see what
Cook can do. Vandy. Sorryto my boy Stephen harts All. He
thought Vandy was gonna be good thisyear. He's he was all in on
the Clark Lee experience and they arehaving a really rough going it. And

(58:04):
then Georgia, and I think forGeorgia, we got to figure out who
they are. They got to figureout who they are, and yep,
it's I feel like we might beliving in a very Jalen hurts to a
tongue ab lower world where you feelway more comfortable with Carson Beck no problem,
but then you get to see BrockVandergrift and practice and you're like,

(58:27):
yo, I am surprised he hasn'ttransferred yet. And again a Jalen to
a situation where you're like, butwe haven't seen Brock even the two years
of Stats and Bennett, because Iremember Riley recruiting him to Oklahoma and he
ended up staying home. But hehe could nobody could even beat out Stats

(58:49):
and Bennett. I'm just surprised that'sthe Rock hasn't has to set him out.
I think it's a Kirby thing man. I think far quarterbacks at all.
He plays everything close to the vest. He Kirby is a big fan
of the devil he knows and ofcontrol. He loves being in control.
And a guy like Stetson Bennett,a guy like Carson Back, they allow

(59:10):
him to control. He can control, he can control things, versus a
guy that's I mean, I watchedI saw vander Griffin high school. There's
I don't even remember where it is. I think it was on like the
Elite eleven page. There's a videoI'm like in the background of a Brock
Vandergriff video and I'm like, yo, this dude's a monster. He worked
with my guy, Quincy Avery, and like this is a like this dude.

(59:35):
He's a different type of animal. And I really do think that if
they have to call his number atsome point, I think he's gonna be
ready. So it's good for themthat he hasn't left, because Yo,
he's got he's got real skills, man like this dude's got real By the
way, while we're talking about Corterick, can I can I get your thoughts
on Dylan Gabriel. I think DylanGabriel has we wrap it up? I

(01:00:00):
think Dylan Gabriel is a right exactly. I think he is a capable quarterback.
If you go defense, you thinkhe's a quarterback that should have just
went the army like he was supposedto see yup. No, no,
no, no, so no,no, nothing like that at all from

(01:00:21):
me. When it comes to DG. I like DG. And the thing
is is, as a fan ofa team that has had elite quarterback play
year and tire out for almost twentyyears, it's hard giving guys grace and
getting them time to show what theycan do. Because DG. He's old,

(01:00:43):
right exactly, that's the problem. He's He's played a lot of football
and at his age, he shouldn'tbe overthrowing passes like he does. Granted,
he's dealing with a lot of youngnew wide receivers, so miscommunications happened.
But to me, that's all him. The fact that he is completing
almost eighty percent of his passes. He's really good. He's really good.

(01:01:06):
He is good. He's I'm afan. But will he win you the
game? Is what I'm waiting tosee him do. That's what I was
gonna get to is. I thinkhe is good. I think he is
a plug in play. I thinkhe is Honestly, what is it?
Was it Jason White? Yeah, like he's in that's in the world that
he lives in, right, Likehe's heel, but he's more hYP more

(01:01:30):
athletic than hypel. That's why that'swhy I went with White, right,
Like, yeah, because he wasa little more athletic, but like he
fits that's where he fits in.There. Is he at the top of
the Sooners quarterback spectrum? No,but is he way better than like Rhett
Beaumart, Yeah, Andry Jones eventhough Landry Jones like mister Oklahomlan's beener he
was here for like four but likeliterally, like he's he's right there,

(01:01:52):
and he's right there in the middle. Oh, man him, Well,
I haven't thought about him. Man, yeah, himble at hypel back the
fact. But he's right there inthe middle. He's right there in the
middle. Like, is he Kyler? No? Is? He? Is
he Baker? No is? He'ssaying Bradford no. But he's right there
in the middle. And if youlook at him. And here's the thing,
how let me ask you this andthen we can wrap on this.

(01:02:13):
I don't mean to take over theshow in the big twelve right now,
in the Big twelve, right now, who would you trade him for?
Oh god, Jylan Daniels. That'sit, right, quest that's the only
player I would trade him for.Not for Quinn yours Nope. Okay,
So so he's that's still good. That's right. It's like everybody yells at

(01:02:36):
me when I not going on defind G. It's because of the little
things. But Jalen Daniels, justbecause Jalen Daniels is it for real dual
threat. Besides, I'm satisfied.I put like this. Our biggest problem
in Oklahoma is because we're so spoilwe always got a backup quarterback. This
is really good to Jackson. Arnold'sgonna be a monster, sure, Gatorade
All America, gator Rade the year. He's gonna be great next year.

(01:03:00):
In the SEC. We gotta letdeal In Gabriel run this offense efficiently so
the defense can continue to do theirjob. Yeah, that's that's that's fine,
It's fine. That's why I wantedto ask you, like, I
wanted to get alas like real perspective, because what I'm looking at it,
I'm like, I'm watching the gameand I'm like, he's fine. And
then I also I'm like, oh, but these other guys, he's also

(01:03:22):
way better than these other guys.Yes, but he's not as good as
you've had before. Exactly. That'sthe problem. Are The perspective for a
lot of Sooner fans is that,oh, we're supposed to have the Tier
one of Tier one quarterbacks every singleyear, and that's not realistic. Alabama's
dealing with that right now. Climsonis dealing with that right now. Georgia,
for the most part, is dealingwith that right now. Georgia lives

(01:03:44):
in that. They're like, wedon't even will have a first round quarterback.
We like our guys to be like, just Okay, we want a
five start. It's not going topan out every year. That's what we
want, Alicia Matt Stafford and stilllose a lot of games. That's what
they but that. But that's thething is, like we're no Sooner fans
are so used to a quarterback runningevery game for them, they're having a
defense when a game for you isperplexing. No, the defense did great,

(01:04:08):
so we should score one hundred pointsin this game. No, No,
that's not how quarter fans. That'show Flora fans are, right,
That's that's not how it works.Perspect looking at the through line there Bob
stoops, Bob stoops. Oh mygoodness, wow those yeah what oh wow?
Okay, Yeah, it's a difference. There's a difference there. So
yeah, for me, the perspectiveis I'm still in on Dylan Gabriel.

(01:04:30):
I need him to clean things upjust so that I don't have to defend
him as much. But in conference, literally the only person I would take
over him as Jaylen Daniels. Thatmakes sense. I get it like that,
I get that, Like I'm trulylike I'm I'm looking at all these
guys Keaton Slovis like, no,no, John Rey's plumbly no. Henry
Jones absolutely not. Yeah, no, no, there's no one. Oh

(01:04:55):
Man, by the way, what'sgoing on in Oklahoma State, buddy,
Yeah, when I look at allthose names, I'm just like, no,
no, no, was it willWill Howard at Kansas State? No,
Kansas State? Yeah, Will Howard'sKansas State's quarterback. So they're running

(01:05:18):
out of exact same thing. That'sIt's just all it takes is a moment
to just reflect on who's actually throwinga pill for everybody else and you recognize,
well, I got a good lastthought is that everybody thinks that Jackson
Arnold is going to be Drake mayI agree. I think he's gonna come

(01:05:39):
out of nowhere his sophomore year andbe a beast. But we've got to
let him have the year of reallyabsorbing yes, and I think we'll be
fine. So yeah, well, speaking of Drake may Man, I'm well,
you wuldnt see has the opposite problem. Yep, you see you and
se has never had a good quarterbackuntil I guess Sam Howard. Now Drake

(01:06:00):
may Ye, Like, yeah,my buddy T J. Yates was the
best quarterback we ever had, andhe was a career backup in the NFL,
and so and so it's we've neverwe've never had a we've never had
a oh wow, our quarterback isgood problem. We've always had a what
do we do with Like right rightnow, you and c is in the
middle of what are we supposed todo? Like it's like when you it's

(01:06:24):
like when you get like you getmarried and you get somebody gives you like
good china. Yeah, and you'relike, you're like, when are we
like, what do we what dowe do with this? We're used to
eating off paper plates? When dowe use this? What is it?
Okay, we gotta put it ina display case and never use it.
It's like, no, you useit? Is there to use? There
we go? All right, man, this is fun. Hey Mike,
thank you so much again. MichaelFelder in the bleachers. You can check

(01:06:47):
out his newsletter. He's over atstadium. He always on the TV,
always dropping some nuggets. My man, Thank you so much for pulling up
to the show. No doubt, man, this was fun. You take
it easy. Time for tears,Yes, yes, yes, we're doing
our tiers. It's something we donow since this week four I told y'all
was coming, and guess what we'rehere. So let's dive into my tears

(01:07:08):
and how I have them listed.Four the top thirty players and top top
thirty teams in college football. Gota sef tongue tied here top thirty teams
in college football, and they're noin particular order. But the main thing
is is that I've set this upto where I have four tiers set up.
We have the title contenders, theones that I think ken within the

(01:07:29):
national championship this year. This fluctuateseverywhere. It's a power rate king rating,
its power rating tiers. This isnot me putting them in order of
who I think is gonna get itmore of a other, but it's more
so I like tiers more than Ilike number ratings because it's so hard to
decide which team is one spot betterthan another. The resumes. There's so
much to it that makes it tough. And I mentioned this in the Latin

(01:07:51):
one of the other streams. Idon't like really giving teams rankings anyway before
week four, and now we're atweek five, so it's time for to
talk about it. So let's diveinto those numbers. First off, let's
look at tier one. These arethe title contenders. These are the ones
that I feel like should push fora national championship. You've got Georgia,

(01:08:12):
Florida State, Michigan, Ohio State, Texas. Yeah, saying that only
because that's what it looks like today. Texas will have a test in two
weeks when they play Actually they havea test this weekend against Kansas and then
they have Oklahoma the next week,so they have two tough teams to play
against to really show what they reallyare. When you look at Michigan,

(01:08:32):
Ohio State, Ohio State won thatgut, that gut wrenching game against Notre
Dame, which was a fantastic gameoverall, great defensive battle. Right now,
they look like they still can contend. They look like that in time,
they will get better. And myconsiderations around these rankings and tears is
a lot of these teams will getbetter as a season progresses. This is

(01:08:55):
not the only inneration of them. They'll either get better or they'll get worse.
And so I like to look atit in that capacity. When we
got here Florida State, that wasa good win for them against Clemson,
They won on the road against ateam that's really good at home, first
time winning and with like seven ornine years, so that's something right there
in itself. They went to DeathValley and be Clemson. Yes, Clemson

(01:09:16):
is borderline reeling, ka Clembic isnot bad. They're still trying to figure
themselves out, and I don't thinkthat they're gonna be horribor all season long.
I think that they'll figure it outas the season progresses. If they
prove me wrong, then yeah, they prove me wrong. And then of
course Georgia they are the former nationalchampionship, two time back to back national
champions until they lose, I can'tsay that they won't be up there now.

(01:09:42):
Granted, if you've heard me talkabout this before, I'm not as
confident about Georgia as most people are. And the reason why I'm not as
confident about Georgia as most people areis because Georgia has to show me that
they can win a national championship. With the way they're playing right now,
I don't think they're playing very great. As some Georgia fans say the same
thing. They don't look like themselves. So yeah, Tier one title contenders,

(01:10:05):
the Next up, yall playoff contenders. This is my playoff contenders.
I think it's Oklahoma, Oregon,Utah, USC Washington, and LSU.
Right now, these teams are theones that look like they could play for
a playoff spot. They can knockoff one of these top teams and take
one of their spots into the playoffs. I think that they have the competitive
ability. Oklahoma right now is oneof the top defenses in the country.

(01:10:28):
You can say they didn't play nobody, but they play the teams on the
schedule, just like we feel thesame thing about Michigan, who's doing really
good defensively. They're playing the teamsit's on their schedule. We'll see what
it looks like when they face additionalcompetition long term. But Oregans out here
killing it too. They just destroyColorado. They ended the Cinderella story,
which this feels like their super Bowl. But I hope this wasn't it for
them now. Granted this week,if you're watching an Oregon game, definitely

(01:10:51):
take the other team on the spreadbecause this felt like a very emotional game
for them, and they may actuallykind of stumble and just a little slow,
but overall, Dan Lanning is killingit. He's doing great. They
were a national championship contender from thejump anyway, so I have them as
a playoff contender that contentionally make itto the playoffs. I don't know if
they'll knock off the top team, but you know, no, this year

(01:11:12):
looks different going down on the linewith Utah, USC Washington adding the additional
Pac twelve teams, They're gonna cannibalizeeach other. So we've got to wait
and see who ends up coming upvictorious at the end. It's tough to
say because all these are looking good. Michael Pennox looks like a National Heisman
Trophy winnd out. He looks likea contender for the national for the Heisman.

(01:11:33):
Keep saying national. I don't knowwhy I keep saying national, but
he really looks like a player that'scompeting for the Heisman, putting up up
SURD numbers and so and I'm stillhigher on LSU than most. They gutted
out that win this week against theArkansas and those are the type of wins
you need to have. Jalen Danielswent out there and look good. Their
defense is kind of suspect, whichis shocking with the player with players like

(01:11:55):
Mason Smith as well as Harold Perkins. I would have not expected them to
be so volatility defense, but Ithink they'll get better. I think things
will work out for them long term. Moving on from them, you have
the New Year's Six Bowl bound team. Now, these are teams that I

(01:12:17):
feel like will probably make one ofthe best chances of making the New Year's
Six Bowl games outside of those thatyou know playoffs. They could potentially jump
some of the playoff contenders as everythingfinalizes, because you only get four playoff
contenders, so everybod else underneath themis technically you're New Year's Six. But
they still gotta still win enough gamesthere. But I think these teams can
compete for that Penn State, Tennessee, Clemson, Bama, Notre Dame,

(01:12:41):
UNC, Washington State, as wellas Miami. Now I still have Clemson
up there. I think Clemson's gonnaget better as the season goes on.
I think that they're struggling with thefact that the Clemson wins ten games,
they can compete for a New Year'ssix game period. They can. I'm
just saying that's what I feel likewith them. They just have to go
out there improve there's they're good enough. Now. Next week they may fall
off this list. I may movethem all the way down to bull bound.

(01:13:04):
We don't know. But right now, the way that they fought against
Florida State tells me they've got it. I think that was more of a
testament of how good Florida State isand how actually good Clemson can be.
I don't think clem clempson didn't laydown in that game. They compete it.
So you go to overtime, meaintFlorida State and lose, you get

(01:13:24):
a little bit of grace from me. So I think Clemson needs to figure
it out, but I think theycan. Tennessee, that lost to Florida
was absurd. They should have notlost that game. They embarrassed me in
public. But at the same time, I don't I think that as their
schedule goes on, there's toughest gameis gonna be Bama and Georgia. And
if they can win one of thosetwo New Year's sixth bound easily, I

(01:13:45):
don't think that they go unscathed.Though they're gonna lose one of them,
guarantee they'll probably lose both. Butif they can finish a year with three
losses. Only can't complain about theseason, right, and then you know,
Penn State. I ain't eat inState to prove to me that they
can get over the hump. Andthe only way they can prove to me
that they can get over the humpis by actually getting over it. James

(01:14:08):
Franklin is a really good coach.I've always liked James Franklin and what he
does. But I'm telling you allnow, the biggest thing for me with
Penn State is I don't know ifthey can get over the hump. So
until they prove to me that theycan, this is where they're gonna sit.
They're gonna sit right here in thenew year, six pounds squad.

(01:14:30):
They'll probably make the Rose Bowl overone of the other teams. They may
actually end up beating either Michigan orOhio State this year. But if they
can pull it and beat Ohio State, which probably is the most vulnerable of
the two, then yeah, Iwill be sold on Penn State going forward.
Because Drew Aller is still young.Red shirt was I think he's a
sophomore or red shirt sophomore, oneof the two. I think sophomore.

(01:14:51):
Actually, he's gonna be there fora bit, and that's that's something I'm
sold on. And if the teamon this list that really jumped out to
me the most, Washington State CameronWard. Jesus, that man is good.
I'm sold on everything that Cameron Wardis doing them. Sold on him
as a player. I'm sold Sol, Sol, So I'll buy five that

(01:15:14):
him and Drake may with UNC tomy favorite quarterbacks in Coshobar Right now,
they're killing it. Michael Penix isup there too, beast, so I'm
sold on what they're doing there.Last ones we've got is our bowl bound
teams, and this is where we'regonna wrap this bad boy up. Drop
this number and y'all can drop intocomments and tell me whi y'all think westconsin
Old miss Texas Tech, TCU andthem which they may actually make a bowl

(01:15:41):
game, Oregon State two lane Missourilooks like they're bowl bound the way they're
playing right now, UCLA b YU, and I still got Colorado as the
bottom team making a bowl game.Yes, Colorado got blown out by Oregon.
All of their faults and stuff havepopulated. That's gonna be the best
defense they'll see probably for the restof the season. Well, besides Utah,

(01:16:03):
that's the best team they're gonna seefor the rest of the season.
Nothing about them tells me that they'regonna get just letted by anybody else besides
Oregon. Oregon what came out there, not only on a mission, but
Oregon has Dan Landing in one ofthe best defenses out there. So for
them, that Utah game is probablythe game I fear the most. I

(01:16:24):
think they can survive a shootout withUSC going down the line of UCLA,
Oregon State, Washington State, andthat Utah defense is the one that's gonna
be the be the one. Nowthe question is gonna be how do they
progress throughout the season. That's beenthe question I've had for Colorado. I
said that they were gonna go sixand six. It feels like they're gonna
go six and six. Now.I got them thirty right now. Doesn't

(01:16:45):
mean that they won't fall out.Listen to me when I say these are
these are my ratings for them onthe power side. Doesn't mean that anybody's
gonna stay in these tiers. Thesetears are going to fluctuate throughout the season,
and it's all based upon how they'replaying now and how I see their
schedule playing out from there. ThePac twelve is gonna have the biggest problem
because all of these top teams fromOregon, Utah, Washington, USC,

(01:17:08):
Washington State, Oregon State, they'reall gonna play each other for the most
part, and they're gonna start knockingeach other off. UCLA. So as
those teams knock each other off, which they have the best quarterbacks in college
football, argue with your MoMA onthat one, it's gonna hurt them in
the end. And so we'll seewhat it looks like. That is my

(01:17:30):
